> Those who fake, those who appropriate - do you not realize you are actively harming people? Do you not realize you are actively making it harder to get proper diagnoses? To get proper resources? To be taken seriously by medical professionals?
i dont think they care about harm they perpetuate, i think its best to not give them a platform . FDC basically puts them on blast and gives them the attention they want, boosts the algorithm and all that . If they are faking, I mean. If they arent, youre just screenshotting and laughing at random mentally ill ppl who share, express, talk about or even mention it, or (and mind you, i think this is weird too) have their mental illness in their bio lol (which i personally think is weird because i have a personality besides my Mental illness and thats not my defining characteristic, but i do not think its necessarily a sign of faking, just people following trends/mirroring peers, i.e. plastering mental illness in bio, and doing what their peers do? Or idk maybe they have a mental health blog or something? Lol idk) . Lose-lose situation both ways. Its just depressing. Practically, i think its better to just Leave Them Alone, not give them any attention or views, if attention (or, even MORE attention) is drawn to them, if they have nothing to gain, they have nothing (or less—of) to win from displaying this sort of behavior online. (which FDC users, IN PART, 1) feed the attention-seeking and algorithmic cycle of genuine fakers & 2) Perpetuate both the harassment of genuine mentally ill people who are online, and people mistakenly thinking theyre faking due to (most often) having symptoms that are rare, unbelievable or incomprehensible to the average person, or poorly explained/worded, or being misinformed, or even having symptoms ABOUT towards their own symptoms (i.e. believing themself to be legitimately seperate people, mistaking different phenomenom as being related to their DID i.e. sleep paralysis, and having core beliefs stemming from trauma or the aftermath of it that, obviously, envokes disgust or is otherwise not palatable to the average person) — by engaging in this "culture" and so many eyes on them. People seek these "types of" people out "for cringe content" and do not seem to (practically, that is — judging by their longterm behavior rather than what they say they, which very much functions more as a disclaimer than anything legitimate — you can say whatever pretty words you want, but that means nothing if you dont hold your behavior to the same standard) care to distinguish or care about long-term effects of this culture and behavior, (which ironically is attention-seeking behavior in of itself since posting on reddit is for its own form of likes/"karma"? Reddit is still a social media platform, its still for "likes" "views" and "attention", youre just using other people for content instead of generating your own), and the cycle continues, on & on.) If they dont have any eyes on them & have no social benefits/less eyes on them, they have nothing to win. It would be more functionally useful to, rather than "calling out" specific individuals and endlessly giving others attention (especially if they dont have much of a platform to begin with), to educate people and not give others a platform. Because at the end of the day they want attention, and it seems counterproductive to give them exactly what they want. Personally, my life was better when i wasnt aware of this particular type of attention-seeking behavior on this scale and people exploiting mental illness for views, being preformative, and when people like this werent able to so easily have a platform.
I think that— because I have been on both sides before (lore stuff), I feel a specific need to fight, yk?
I agree, on not giving them a platform, but many of these people who are faking have either been caught, officially, or have stopped faking altogether.
