rereading books that you reread constantly through your formative years is so embarrassing like oh i see. so thats why i write like this. oh so THATs why i like that. just turn me inside out and let the world see how influential this irrelevant novel was to my entire being and identity as a writer. ok.

wow i made this draft on november 1st i really took a break from this huh anyway tgcf chapters 121 - 142
i realize now this coffin scene was inevitable. feel kinda weird about hua cheng  back and forth from Teen to Big Man but it is very funny that theyre having their “dude dont look at my boner” moment while in the jaws of a water dragon
pei ming: why didnt you guys make a bigger coffin so you didnt have to squish together like that? xie lian: haha yep!! anyways what brings you here?
“In the grand, spacious centre of the entrance hall sat a person. And this person, dressed in all black, its face snow-white—was a corpse! Instantly Xie Lian shut the doors soundly.” - king of minding his own business.
okay this is where i stopped putting notes here for a while but i did save some in my e-reader so here’s some of the highlights
“Guzi used to have a good sleeping form, but perhaps with his cheap dad’s bad influence, now he was also spread out on top of Qi Rong’s stomach like a dead fish. Lang Ying himself was curled neatly in the corner, and was covered by a few shirts. Xie Lian lifted the blanket covering Qi Rong, suppressed the urge to smother his face, and covered the two small children.” - xie lian funny moments. also it would be really funny if qi rong redeems himself by learning love through these misfit chiildren and it might actually endear me to him but i hope that doesnt happen
Every heavenly official was yelling, and even Ling Wen was throwing a fit. “DON’T THROW EVERY BIT OF USELESS INFORMATION MY WAY, HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK I HAVE TO GO THROUGH EVERY DAY? DON’T YOU ALL KNOW TO USE YOUR BRAINS A LITTLE BEFORE ASKING ME?!” - ling wen marry me right now
“An expression like “seen a ghost” that only mortals experienced was now showing on his face for the first time. Shi Wudu’s pupils shrank to the smallest they could, and he blurted, “You’re still alive?!” “I’m dead!” He Xuan said coldly.” - okay everythings going tits up rn but i did laugh
i did see spoilers re: ming yi/he xuan reveal + shi wudu’s fate beforehand so i dont have a genuine reaction other than oh shit
“He slowly enunciated each word. “I won’t touch your fate. But, here in this place, chop off your brother’s head for me.”  CLANG! He threw a rusty blade onto the ground. Shi Qingxuan stared at that blade, his eyes wide. He Xuan continued, “Then, never show yourself before me again, and I will pretend you’ve never existed in this world.” - okay idk what else is going to happen but rn im concerned that this is like the 2nd biggest ship. i guess we’ll see?? i mean i am really curious whats going to happen to them. shi qingxuan keeps calling he xuan “ming-xiong” and i... sad
shi wudu im not really invested in you as a character but these next two bits... interesting
“If I don’t die but have nothing, then that’s truly a fate worse than death. If I’m not the Water God, I can’t take care of you. I won’t even be able to protect myself. I’m scared that we won’t even last two days…TAKE IT!” - damn. something about the wealthy losing everything and not knowing how to live without it bc thats their entire life and identity
“EVERYTHING I HAVE TODAY, I FOUGHT FOR MYSELF. I WILL FIGHT FOR WHAT I DON’T HAVE. I WILL CHANGE FATE I DON’T POSSESS. MY FATE IS UP TO ME AND NOT THE HEAVENS!” - okay so the whole committing spiritual fraud by tormenting a man and his family to get your brother a cushy title thing aside this was kind of badass. heretical? possibly. but still. also is he intentionally riling up he xuan so sqx doesnt have to kill him? if so damn...
also okay as long as im here im just gonna say it. the choice that he xuan gives shi qingxuan is fucking brutal but i actually think its probably as fair as it could be. sqx didnt know about or participate in what happened to hx but they did benefit from it greatly while hx lost EVERYTHING and i can understand he xuan’s thinking of “if you really feel bad for what happened to me then you have to make a sacrifice and understand the suffering and this is as clean as its going to get” and theres a bit where sqx is trying to beg for mercy but cant get the words out which im guessing is bc theres no good argument!! what happened was fucked up!!
“When Pei Ming saw that reinforcements had arrived, he didn’t appear particularly delighted; instead he threw the sword into the ground, then rubbed his nose and said, sounding grim, “You all just had to come just as I finished making these, what the heck.” - pei ming making coffins chopping down trees with his sword i love it #wastehistime2k17
“Xie Lian brought that basket of eggs along, and gave them away as souvenirs from the mortal realm. Many who received the eggs were overjoyed; some deciding to eat it along with their own blood, and some proclaiming they would hatch an eight-foot monster.” - GHOST CITY GHOST CITY
“Placing the brush down, he blew lightly at the ink and smiled. “If I like something, then my heart will not have room for any other, and I’ll always treasure it. A thousand times, a million times, no matter how many years, this will not change. This poem is the same." - thats nice and all but king... get therapy. i actually have further thoughts but tbh i dont want to put them into words bc they are simply too personal! moving on
didnt take any notes but somewhere in here was the bit with mount tong’lu opening and hua cheng losing it and kind of um. hm. that scene. thats another trope i really hate tbh i dont care for it as a way of including physical intimacy between characters and idk if it really ever adds anything but whatever moving on
The Half-Maquillage Woman - kind of interesting monster idea bc women and aging…. yeah. however i think this would be a lot stronger if there were a) more girls and this was b) discussed or illustrated at all prior to this moment. still interesting that its included knowing the author is a woman tho and there’s been comments on how ling wen is perceived vs pei ming. this book does keep giving me hope for interesting female character arcs i really want it to deliver something
quan yizhen..... i get u
lmao i have a note on a bit with lang ying that says “please dont be hc in disguise” and..... my clown nose was on but at least i knew that. for real this is bothering me how much he’s just. always. there. i know he’s a lead but we didn’t really need him around for a lot of this. oh well.  okay now to my current notes
“Yet it was precisely because it wasn’t cooked that it had to be eaten quickly. Once Xie Lian cooked it, it wouldn’t be edible anymore” - fucking fantastic
“Xie Lian hugged his belly. “Of course! Only after having met you did I rediscover that it’s such a simple thing to be happy, hahaha…” Hearing this, Hua Cheng blinked. Xie Lian’s laughter quieted a bit, realizing what he just said was a little too revealing.” - okay i know i said what i said about being tired of hua cheng being everywhere but... the line…. the fact that theyre laughing together…. :pleading:
“It’s not,” Ling Wen said. “At least, I believe, there will definitely not be another in history who can create a dish called ‘Incorruptible Chastity Meatballs’” - and truer words were never spoken
“I, DO NOT WORSHIP GODS. “I, AM GOD!” - this was every bit as badass as i hoped but no one told me it was immediately followed up by a little bit of the ol dinner theater fjalkdsfjsd. also puqi shrine noooooooooo
“Xie Lian sighed as he thought, “Qi Rong has taken Guzi away, who knows if the poor child was eaten or abandoned. Wind Master...... ..... who knows if Black Water took him away. Pray they’re both safe.” yeah hey are we going to fucknig. find out what happened to the child???
and yeah i dooooont really care for the age regression? thing thats going on. i just dont like that trope tbh. but tiny hua cheng whipping out his fat ghost king wallet in the store was funny tho. it is really funny that hualian are just like wandering around some random towns while the heavens are in an uproar. i guess theres not much else to do but its funny
“Me too, me too. You all know of my shixiong, right? Talented, with an infinite future! He only had one small vice: he loved playing women. Decades ago, a little prostitute ghost seduced my shixiong and sucked him dry into human jerky, and that Hua, Hua, Hua, that ghost king dared shelter her.” - yes omg give me the forbidden hua cheng lore i love this for him for real it goes along nicely with xie lian’s principles about giving another cup. god i love shared values
“Hua Cheng poked again, and a small hole appeared on the wall, as if the wall was made of tofu.” - how’d he do that. why is this a ghost king power. its useful tho
*me shaking qi rong when he pops up* WHERE IS THE CHILD
mu qing fu yao is here okay im happy now. once again no one has a good grasp on their secret identity and i love that. this inn has descended into chaos and im delighted and im glad lan chang is back
“The good ol’ kitchen was suddenly squished and crowded, loud and noisy. Fu Yao was chasing that fetus spirit leaping up and down, Lan Chang was chasing after Fu Yao like she had gone mad. Half of Qi Rong’s face changed shape by the way Xie Lian was pressing him down on the chopping board, his back turning into a target for those yellow talismans Fu Yao hurled while being observed by a crowd, and Lan Chang would step on him from time to time.” - this is pure chaos. i love that mu qing was in that room when the mob checked and he didnt say a word didnt open the door just sent out a talisman as a warning. king your disguise is transparent
“Xie Lian remembered the way Feng Xin laughed until he was hoarse when he first heard that verbal password all those years back, and couldn’t help but feel nostalgic, even though it wasn’t the right time.” - awwwww omg im emotional about this... faithful friend feng xin laughing at xie lian’s stupid joke password and remembering it!!! ;_;
“They have, but they’re not effective,” Feng Xin said. “Usually they’re the most diligent in scorning the Palace of Ling Wen, like they could do the job way better if they had the position. Now that we need them to take up the task, not a single one can do even half of what she does.” - typical... typical typical typical
also emotional about the fact that feng xin contacted xie lian at all.....
also!! emotional about lan chang as a mom and wanting to help out sick lil guzi.....
xie lian forcing “fu yao” to let him help “his general” is making me.... what is friendship if not playing along with your buddies little shenanigans while also making them accept your help
“Someone like Mu Qing, even though he’s narrow-minded, petty, sensitive and skeptical, has a bad personality, constantly guessing, doesn’t say nice things, likes to nag, always offending people and has a lot of people who dislike him, has no friends, can remember small, unimportant details for a long period of time…” ”Xie Lian went on in one breath with a straight face, but in the end he concluded with, “...But I’ve known him since we were kids, after all, he’s still got principles.” - XIE LIAN PLEASE AFJDLKSFJDL omg ive seen this quote before but i figured he was talking to someone else not actually to mu qing himself fgjasdkfjsl. god thats amazing. hey im gonna help you out because i care but i will roast you first <3
waaaaaait so is lan chang aka jian lan that girl from book 2 we took a page to talk about and then disappeared? that has to be it why else would we have stopped to discuss her
“Jian Lan spat on his face, then choking his neck, she slapped him twice again. “WHAT SHITTY SUPREME! YOU SURE KNOW HOW TO BLOW YOURSELF UP! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, THINK YOU’RE EVEN WORTH TO BE THOUGHT OF AS EQUALS WITH THE OTHER THREE SUPREMES? WHAT ARE YOU EVEN GOOD AT? YOUR THICK SKIN? OF COURSE I DARE HIT YOU!” - oh this feels so good i cant lie. YES GET HIM!! CHOMPING AND VIOLENCE YES!!!!
okay this description of cuocuo.... im... that sure the hell is a creature
this book is so entertaining bc i already saw spoilers for the feng xin/jian lan/cuo cuo reveal and yet i could never have predicted the circumstances that brought it about. imagine being feng xin. the heavens are in an uproar and your only friend/enemy has been jailed for possible fetus spirit-related crimes but he escapes along with this female ghost who keeps causing problems. you figure “fuck it lets see if dianxia kept his old phone number” and he has but then he hangs up on you. you’ve got fuckall else to do so you go find him. mu qing is there but he’s in his disguise the two of you were using so you could watch over his highness while staying aloof. you think you see hua cheng only he’s a chiild for some goddamn reason but who knows at this point. the female ghost is also there and theres a fetus spirit climbing trees and biting your arrows in half. you realize the female ghost is your ex and the little demon is your son. it bites you. what do you do
amazing that despite everything going on everyone is still playing along with the “fu yao” persona when it would probably be easier to drop pretenses at this point. then again tbh if i could explain my actions to my friends while pretending to be a third party.... i probably would so.. carry on
“With all his devotees gone, only Feng Xin still treated him like the Flower-Crowned Martial God and His Highness the Crown Prince. ” “...his protection charms were all seen as trash. However, Feng Xin was still determined and tireless in handing them out; telling Xie Lian, look, you still have devotees.” “After all, he was the darling of the heavens since birth, high and mighty. Feng Xin so naturally spun around him like he was the world, so how could he possibly have his own life, his own heart” “Whether or not that fetus spirit was Feng Xin’s son, if it was that period of poverty that made Feng Xin lose the girl he loved, Xie Lian wouldn’t be able to forgive himself no matter what." ohhhh my god this relationship i. im...
Tumblr media
oh my god i still have 30 more chapters until book 4............ its naptime now i think

Being the Daughter of Ariel - Descendants Headcanons
aka I dont have time to write full-length multi-chaptered fics, so I do this
Being one of the three kids of Ariel and Eric had its perks. Belle united the kingdoms of those above the shores in Auradon, including your parents’ kingdom, your aunt insisted that you and your siblings spend time in Atlantica as well.
Melody and your younger brother decided to stay in Atlantica for most of the year, attend school there, and learn more about being under the sea
You, however, spent most of your time on the shore, or more accurately, in Auradon High with your best friends, Ben and Audrey.
Audrey was more of the protector of your trio. She was blunt and stubborn, and if either you or Ben was being bullied, she wouldn’t hesitate to throw that fact that she was the “beloved princess among the fairies.”
After all, Audrey may not wield magic, but her godmothers did, and they didn’t care about Fairy Godmother’s rules if Audrey was involved in it
Ben was the sweetheart of the group. He was waaaay too nice, to everyone and everything. He was the type of person who uses “please” and “thank you” to his phone/computer.
He was also obsessed with being the perfect king, always studying and always trying to find ways to help people.
His obsession with being the perfect king and Audrey’s obsession with living up to her grandmother’s standards was what got them engaged in the first place.
When their parents told them of their plans, Audrey couldn’t say no, not to her grandmother, and Ben couldn’t say no either.
You, however, were the fun one. You were the perfect balance between the two. Kind and sweet but stubborn and loud
You always pulled your two best friends out of the rut or out of work or out of practice or literally anything that was draining them. You took them out to the beach when Ben’s princely duties were too much, or you took them to the spa when Audrey’s grandma was being too much
You found out they were engaged verrrrryyyy late
You knew their parents were going to do it, but you didn’t think it was official
It wasn’t until you were all thirteen, three years after they were officially betrothed, when you found out
“I just don’t get it,” you groaned. “Melody got to explore the ocean when she was thirteen, so why can’t I go to one party?”
Ben hummed. “Well, our parents are trying to not repeat mistakes, you know? I’m sure they’re just looking out for you.”
“As if!” Audrey closed her book and sat up. “Our parents made great decisions at our age. Why do you think they betrothed us at ten?”
You blinked. “Wait, what?”
“What do  you mean, ‘Wait, what?’?” Audrey asked.
You shook your head and rubbed your eyes. “I thought everyone was joking when they said you were going to get married. I didn’t know it was official!”
Ben smiled. “Sorry. I guess it just never came up.”
“I have the practice tiara and everything.” She pointed at her future husband. “Benny Boo gave it to me.”
He laughed. “We’re not there yet, Audrey.”
“Well, we have to be soon.” She sighed. “(Y/n), didn’t your mom get married at sixteen?”
“No. Misconception. She went back to my dad at sixteen, got engaged when they were eighteen, and they got married when she was, like, twenty-five or something.”
She tilted her head. “Well, either way, Benny and I are engaged to be engaged to be engaged.”
Ben blinked. “To be engaged.”
Audrey narrowed her eyes. “No, it’s three only.”
“It’s four engaged’s.”
“No, it’s three.”
“I’m pretty sure it’s four.”
“Alright!” You laughed. “Ok, ok, we get it, you two are getting married.” You clicked your tongue. “So, is it weird to think you’ll get married one day.”
“(Y/n),” Ben whined.
“What, Benny Boo?” Audrey giggled. “Am I that disgusting?” She gasped and pretended to faint. “I’m nothing! No more! How can my Benny Boo not love me? The pain! The pain!”
You laughed, while Ben went to Audrey and kissed her forehead. “I won’t mind being engaged to be engaged to be engaged with you.”
Audrey beamed. “You used three.”
“Yep.”
You shook your head. “Alright, future lovebirds, come on. We got homework. I’m not becoming a third wheel yet!”
And so that was how it went. It was just expected the Ben and Audrey would marry. And though you knew the two weren’t in love, they were good friends, and the marriage would help strengthen the kingdom’s morale.
High school came, and the three of you were excited. Mostly the same classes, just different extracurriculars. Ben and you shared sword-fighting. Audrey and you shared singing lessons. Ben and Audrey had prince/princess/royal rulers classes.
Your two best friends were both obsessed with the school much more than you were, though. You just participated in singing and sword-fighting.
The only other thing that took up your time were visits to Atlantica, but that was during vacation.
Ben was in student government and tourney, and he went even more beyond by taking more classes than he needed. (Seriously, who needed to learn how to tie rope when you were a king?)
Audrey tried out for cheerleading, and was named head cheerleader by her second year. She did dancing, singing, and even joined etiquette classes, even though she already passed the required etiquette classes with flying colors.
“I have to keep up on my lessons. A queen can’t forget her manners.”
On top of that, her fairy godmothers took her out of school at the most random times. (Fairies didn’t really care for timing when their goddaughter’s mental health was on the line)
As time went on, Audrey fell in love with the idea of a wedding. An entire, kingdom-wide celebration for her and one of her best friends. What wasn’t there to be excited about?
She dragged the two of you to window shop for her impending wedding
But… Ben started showing up less and less
Audrey was too caught up in her wedding/engagement/kingdom/queen plans to really notice, but you did.
“Ben, what’s your deal?”
“W-What do you, no, you need to leave. I don’t have time to-”
“Yes, you do. Why are you avoiding Audrey?”
He was silent. “You’ll hate me. She’ll hate me.”
“No, we won’t.” You sighed and hugged him. “Ben, you’re our oldest friend. We could never hate you.”
Ben gulped. He paced the room, and you waited patiently.
“I don’t want to marry Audrey.”
You blinked. “Oh.”
“I love Audrey. I do. She’s an amazing friend, and she’d make an amazing queen, but I just… I can’t… I can’t get married to someone I don’t love love.”
Oh gods, that was big. For years, they were expected to be engaged, and suddenly this? No wonder Ben was distancing himself. He wanted true love, like what everyone’s parents had.
“Ben,” you whispered. “Ben, how are you going to-”
“I’m not.”
You blinked. “Not what?”
“Cancelling it.”
“Ben!” You scoffed. “Ben, if you don’t want to marry Audrey, you have to cancel it as soon as possible.”
“No. I’m going to be king, and marrying her will solidify Auradon and its shaky foundation. Marrying Audrey will help Auradon, and as their prince, I must do what’s best for my kingdom.”
You sighed. “But, Ben, it’s at your own expense. At the price of your happiness. Are you willing to pay that?”
He was silent for a few moments. Then, he smiled sadly. “I have to.”
The two of you never spoke about it again.
Still, Ben made an effort. After your talk, he joined you and Audrey on your window shopping trips. He sometimes needed a break, and you would distract her long enough for him to catch his breath.
If Audrey noticed it, she never said anything.
(Audrey wasn’t dumb. She knew something was off, but she also knew that you would tell her if something was wrong, and since you didn’t say anything, she just thought Ben was stressed over being prince or something.)
Audrey started including herself more during study sessions and even offered to help Ben with his princely duties.
“I have an idea,” Audrey said once while Ben was working on student government things and you were practicing some sword-fighting stances. Once she had your attention, she continued, “Student government should have more people on it. You need a co-president, Benny.”
Ben stared at her. “I mean, I like the idea, but I don’t know who would take the job, and you have so much on your plate, Audrey.”
She shrugged. “You’re not wrong. Head cheerleader, dance leader, additional princess classes, not to mention my godmothers always take me out for something or other at the most inopportune times, so you’re right, I’m busy.” She tilted her head back and forth. “Maybe someone who isn’t going to be queen?” Audrey looked at you.
“Audrey!” Ben exclaimed.
“What? I’m right.” She sighed and looked to you. “Sorry about that, but you always said you wanted to get more involved. This would be a good way of doing it. Plus, you’ll spend more time with my Benny Boo, and both of you can keep me updated on official Auradon High news.” She smiled. “So, what do you say, princess of Atlantica?”
You bit your lip. It would help Ben out. He was always so stressed, and being a co-president would take a bit of the load off his back. But it would also mean making time for it. Between classes, scheduled visits to Atlantica, and your lessons in singing and sword-fighting alike, you didn’t have much time.
You smiled. “I’ll do it.”
(Y/n), princess of Atlantica and student body co-president
When Ben had come of age to be king, he told you and Audrey about what he thought his first declaration would be.
“I wanna bring kids of villains to Auradon High.”
The room was silent.
“What!?” Audrey screeched. “Ben, they have magic. Not to mention who their parents are, who raised them.” She whispered, “I would’ve been on board with this years ago, when Auradon was first established, but now? They’re our age, and they can cause some real chaos.”
You sighed. “She’s right, Ben.”
Your best friend shook his head. “But, they are our age. They didn’t do anything wrong.”
“That we know of!” Audrey argued. ‘There aren’t any rules there, Ben. We don’t know who are murderers and who isn’t.”
“Guys-”
“They can learn to do better here. I’m not saying to bring the villains over-”
“Guys, please-”
“On top of that, they could be thieves or sorcerers of-”
“Guys!” You groaned. “Both of you are right.” You took a deep breath and explained, “Ben, you’re too nice. Audrey’s right. Bringing in all the kids from the Isle is reckless.”
“Exactly.” Audrey crossed her arms.
You turned to her. “But, Ben has some excellent points. Those kids never deserved to be there, and it’s our duty as the next generation of king and queens to right that.”
Ben shrugged. “So what’s our compromise?”
Audrey hummed. “Bring over only a few.”
“Yes!” You nodded. “And put them under care, under Fairy Godmother. After one school year, we bring more.”
“And,” Audrey added, “if they break a serious rule, mugging, manipulation, murder, they go back.”
You agreed, “Just like their parents.”
Ben beamed. “I like it!”
And so the VK program was born
Ben was super nervous. A few months before his sixteenth birthday, the three of you were already writing up the legal documents needed to establish the Vk program
“We need to choose four people,” Ben said.
You gulped. “They’ll need to be the ones who need our help the most. The worst villains, the worst parents, the worst influence.”
“Cruella!” Audrey shouted. She turned over on the bed to stare at the two of you sitting on the ground. “Who wants to kill puppies?”
“You’re right,” you said.
Ben looked through the paperwork. “One son, Carlos.”
You wrote it down. “I suggest the Evil Queen. Vain, murderous, and influenced by dark magic.”
“One daughter,” Ben said, “Evie.”
“So, Cruella, Evil Queen,” Audrey recited. “What about Mother Gothel? Does she have kids?”
Ben looked through the papers again. “Nope, no kids.”
You sighed. “Thank the gods for that. I wouldn’t be able to forgive ourselves.” You gasped. “Frollo? Any kids?”
More paper rustling. “No, no kids.”
You sighed. “Ok, ok, guys, two more.”
Audrey hummed. “Well, if we’re going for dark magic, I say Jafar. Manipulative, sorcerer, almost commited murder.”
“Yep, he has one son, Jay.”
You stared at the names. Carlos, son of Cruella; Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen; and Jay, son of Jafar.
You and Ben stared at each other. You both knew who else needed to be on that list. Ben scrambled to see if she had a kid. No need to bring it up if she didn’t have a kid.
But nope. She did. Mal, daughter of Maleficent.
Ben nodded at you. You do it.
You narrowed your eyes and pointed at your left ring finger. You’re the one that’s engaged with her. You do it!
Ben and you got locked in a staring contest.
You lost.
You sighed and said, “Hey, Audrey, I think I know the other one villain kid.”
“Oh yeah? Who else is super evil? Because I was thinking-”
“Maleficent,” you blurted out.
At the name, Audrey paled. She licked her lips and was at a sudden loss of words. You blinked a few times, all avoiding her two best friends’ gazes.
“Audrey?” Ben asked. “Are you ok?”
“I’m fine!” She giggled and adjusted her hair. “I’m perfectly fine. It’s not like it was suggested that you bring the daughter of the evil fairy who cursed my mother and forced my grandparents to never be able to raise her. I’m fine.” She took a deep breath and shook her head.
You reached out to hold her hand. Ben did, too.
She smiled at both of you. “Sorry.” She squeezed your hands. “You’re right. Maleficent is evil, and her kid would need help.”
“Are you sure?” Ben asked. “Because if you aren’t-”
“No, I’m sure.” Audrey nodded. “As future queen, I should be open to these kinds of things.” She smiled. “What’s her name?”
Ben looked at the papers. “Mal.”
And so, Ben was king at sixteen, and the VK program was enacted.
You were there with Audrey and Ben to greet the VKs
You saw how Ben looked at Mal, and Audrey did, too.
Audrey, ever so stubborn, got between the two and started talking about Maleficent and about her relationship with Ben.
And honestly, you couldn’t really blame her
When Ben was alone, you caught him. “What was that?”
“What was what?”
You crossed your arms. “I’ve known you for ten years, Ben. I know that look. You had that look when you saw my sister for the first time.”
“Hey, we don’t bring that up.”
“Ben.” You grabbed his hand. When his eyes met yours, you said earnestly, “Audrey, you love her, and she deserves better than this.”
Ben sighed. “She did snap.”
“She’s not stupid, Ben.” You smiled and rubbed circles into his cheeks. “I love you, and I know that this is hard, but you need to be honest with yourself and with Audrey. What are you willing to sacrifice?”
Ben laughed. “I wish I could have both. True love and a good king.”
You shrugged. “It doesn’t have to be mutually exclusive.” You sighed. “After all, you could fall in love with Audrey, or the kingdom could fall in love with Mal. Either way, I support you.”
Ben nodded and kissed your forehead. “Thank you.”
So, for the next few days, Ben contemplated his options. You and Audrey were left in the dark.
“Mal is using magic,” Audrey told you.
Your eyes widened. “Magic isn’t allowed on school grounds.” You laughed. “If it was, I would be living in the lake with a tail.” You blinked. “Wait, what magic is she doing?”
“Hair,” Audrey said. “For other girls.”
You pursed your lips. “We should let her off with a warning. It’s small magic. And I don’t see any evil intentions.”
“Gateway magic, (Y/n)!” Audrey stabbed her food. “First, it’s the hair, then the face, then what? Suddenly, there’s an old hag wandering around, giving poison apples to unsuspecting students.” She shook her head. “Needs more than a warning.” She let out a deep breath and tilted her head up to prevent her tears from falling. “I told Ben, and he didn’t even care.”
You observed your best friend. She chomped on her food, and her usually manicured nails were hidden in her fist.
She wasn’t happy with Mal. After all, she was Maleficent’s daughter and Ben and she had a connection
You held her hand. “I’ll talk to him.”
She smiled at you. “Thank you.”
After a moment, she laughed and wiped her eyes. “I shouldn’t be too worried, huh?” She fanned herself. “After all, I’m going to have to be queen. I have to act like one.”
“Hey.” You grabbed her hand again. “Even queens take off their crowns.”
Audrey pursed her lips and nodded. “Yeah, maybe.”
You tried to catch Ben before the Tourney game, but you just couldn’t. Downside to having the most popular guy as a best friend, you couldn’t always get to him on time.
Then, they won.
And Ben turned into the biggest jerk you’ve ever seen.
You knew he and Mal had a connection, but you had told him! You told him to respect Audrey, to respect the friendship they had, to respect the love she had for him and the love he had for her, but no!
No, he had to just serenade Mal in front of the entire school, embarrassing Audrey and himself.
A king should never act like that.
You were too shocked to really do anything
But Audrey wasn’t. She was filled with rage. So, she went to Chad, a prince who always had a little crush on her, and publicly announced that she was going with him, not Ben.
After the game, you rushed to Audrey’s side. “Hey, hey, slow down-”
“Slow down!?” Audrey grabbed you by the wrist and pulled you into an empty classroom. “Are you kidding me? Why would Ben…” She collapsed into a chair and sobbed. “We didn’t love love each other, but he promised me, (Y/n).” She sniffed. “He promised me.”
You hugged her until she cried herself out and spent the day with her.
When night fell, you stomped over to Ben’s room. Just as you were about to knock, he opened the door. “(Y/n)-”
You shoved him inside and closed the door. “You’re a horrible person, Benjamin.”
“Wait, let me-”
“No, you listen!” You growled, “You embarrassed our best friend in front of the entire school. You’re lucky she’s as influential as she is, cause if she wasn’t, gods know who this school would treat her.”
“I know.”
“You know?! Do you, Ben, because you seem obsessed with Mal over there! You didn’t-”
“I was spelled!”
You froze. Spelled? As in… magic used on him? Your eyes widened. “Oh my god, Ben.”
“(Y/n)-”
You stomped over to the door. “I’m going to give that dragon a piece of my-”
“No!” He blocked the door. “I can’t let you do that.”
You scoffed. “Are you still spelled? Ben-”
“I’m not spelled!” He gulped. “Anymore, at least.”
“Anymore? Ben, do you realize what you did when you were spelled?”
“I know. I was going to apologize.”
“And what about Mal?” You crossed your arms. “You wrote it down yourself. “Mugging, manipulation, murder. These three things will get you kicked out of Auradon and onto the Isle.”
“She doesn’t know how to make the first move, (Y/n). Spells are the only way-”
“I don’t care, Ben! She manipulated you. She made you tear down our best friend, publicly by the way, and I’m betting she did it with evil intent.”
“I love her!” Ben sighed and stared at the ground. “I can’t send the girl I love back to the Isle.”
You shook your head. “You’re stupid, Benjamin.” Your moves were limited. You were the princess of Atlantica, so the only power you had in Auradon was of study body president. And Ben was the prince, almost king. You couldn’t go against his authority.
So, you roughly grabbed his arm and stalked through the halls.
“Wh-What are you-”
“If you’re not going to punish Mal, you’re at least going to apologize to Audrey. Oh, and good luck explaining this to her.” Because you may be fine letting Ben make his own mistakes, but Audrey wouldn’t be. If she found out, Mal and her friends, innocent or not, would be back in the Isle by morning
Ben resigned and followed you.
Ben apologized to Audrey. He got down on his knees, broke up with her, and promised he’d do anything to make it up to her. He left out what Mal did, intentionally.
“Get out,” was her only response.
So, you stayed by her side as she cried. You tried to pry Chad off her arm, but neither of them would budge.
You contemplated telling her what mal actually did, but you couldn’t. She’d do something horrible. She wouldn’t care about the consequences.
So, you said nothing.
When Family Day came, you were trying to ignore the awkwardness between Ben, Audrey, and you and enjoy being with your family. Family Day was one of the few days you got to see your entire family.
All your six aunts, all of your cousins, and your siblings
“(Y/n)!”
You beamed. “Melody! Adrien!” You hugged both of your siblings just as Adrien stumbled. You caught him and laughed. “Still getting used to legs, huh?”
He laughed. “Let’s bring this to the ocean, and we’ll see who gets caught up in the tides.”
“So,” your older sister drawled, “any news here? You haven’t updated us in months.”
“Oh, well, Ben’s VK proclamation passed.”
“It did?” Adrien looked at the crowd. “Where?”
“No staring,” you scolded. You sighed. “With Ben, actually. Children of Maleficent, Jafar, Evil Queen, and Cruella.”
Melody cringed. “Cruellest of the cruel. How have they been?”
You inhaled. “There’s mixed opinions.”
“And your opinion?” Adrien asked.
Your eye twitched. “No harm to the school overall, but to my friends, not so much.”
The three of you conversed, and your siblings tried to distract. The three of you sang your old favorite songs. Your mother and a few of your aunts and cousins joined, and soon you had a bit of a crowd surrounding you.
It has happened before. After all, your family was known for its music.
Then, Audrey’s grandmother, Leah, saw Mal, and, well, Audrey was still mad.
When Evie brought out a perfume bottle, you couldn’t help it. You sang a few bars. “A-a-ah!”
The water-based perfume obeyed you and dropped before it could reach Chad.
Thank the gods for your siblings. They realized what you were about to do and stood in front of you so no one could see that you used magic on school grounds.
When the picnic came, you plopped down at the VKs table and smiled. “Hello.”
The four of them stared at you, not amused or happy with your sudden interest in them.
You stared at Evie first. “Magic isn’t allowed on school grounds. This includes potions. I suggest you get rid of that perfume.”
Her only response was her pursed lips and her silence.
Then, you turned to Mal. “That goes for you, too. You’re lucky Ben loves you, because if he didn’t, I would be in charge of dealing out punishments for love spells, and I wouldn’t be so forgiving.”
You left them with that.
“Was that wise?” Adrien asked, looking back on the villain kids. “They are villain kids.”
“And if they do anything else, I’ll bring them to the Isle myself,” you said. “Plus, apparently, still not bad at our signature aquakinesis.”
“Yes! Exactly,” Melody said. “Let’s focus on the positives. Plus, coronation’s soon. We should prepare for that.”
You scrunched up your nose. Coronation? The thing you’ve been helping to plan all while dealing with VK’s and your best friends? Nope. “Or,” you suggested, “we could go for a swim?”
“(Y/n), no,” Meloday laughed.
“Hell yeah!” you screamed. The three of you rushed back to grab your usual mermaid necessities, your lockets, your brush, and a bag.
When at the beach, two taps of the locket, and you and your siblings were merfolk once more. The rest of the day was spent exploring, practicing aquakinesis, and just enjoying a day under the sea.
When coronation came, you were in a beautiful gown and you sat with Audrey and Melody. Adrien was up in the balcony with the choir.
When Mal had the wand, you were skeptical. Your father had his hand on his sword already, and the rest of your mer-family was ready to sing and manipulate any source of water nearby.
But, then, Maleficent froze all of you, and you had to watch as she teased your best friend.
A part of you was thankful that your family had never crossed Maleficent’s path. She kept on mocking the people of Auradon, and with the power she had, it terrified you just seeing her get too close to Ben and too close to Audrey.
Then, Mal spelled her, somehow, and Maleficent was just a little lizard, for some reason
… you were really just confused.
Then, the impossible happened
Mal apologized. First, to Audrey, then to you
“I know I screwed up a lot while I was here.”
You crossed your arms and waited.
Mal continued, “I love Ben, and I love who I am when I’m with him. I’m not proud of the way it started. It was wrong to do that.” She shrugged. “But I hope that with time, you can forgive me.”
She did seem genuine. At least there was that. And she did admit that she was wrong.“Well, seeing as you did just save Auradon from Maleficent, I think that can be arranged. Thank you.” You held out your hand. “Truce?”
“Truce.” Mal laughed.
There was a big celebration afterward, for Ben’s coronation and for Mal’s defeat of Maleficent. You spent it dancing with your family and with your fellow classmates. You even got to dance with Ben for a little while.
“I’m so sorry for snapping at you.”
“You should be.” You laughed. “I guess, something exciting was going to happen one way or another, son of Beauty and the Beast.”
“It’s a good thing it’s for the better, daughter of the Little Mermaid.” He spun you around and asked, “Are we ok?”
“We will be. With time.” You giggled. “Now, go dance!” You pushed right into Audrey, and you watched from afar as the two had a heart to heart. You didn’t hear what they said, but maybe, you’d all be ok.
After the party had died down and you had said goodbye to your family, Audrey came up to you.
“I need a break from Auradon.”
Your eyes widened. “Did Ben-”
“Ben didn’t do anything else. Actually, he’s trying to make it better.” Your best friend smiled sadly and explained, “After the tourney game, everyone’s looking at me different, and I just… I need some time. And sweet, blondie Ben is going to talk to the school, make sure I can continue my studies elsewhere.” She shrugged. “A queen shouldn’t be around those who gossip and whisper, anyway.”
You nodded. “I’m going to miss you.”
“Aw, I’m gonna miss you, too.” She pulled you into a hug and squeezed you as hard she could. “Keep Benny in line for me.”
“Of course.” You sniffed and pulled away from her. “Write to me.”
“Always. Make sure Benny doesn’t collapse under pressure?”
“Of course.”
Audrey let out a breath. “Ok, I’m off. I’ll catch you later, sweetheart!”
And so, high school continued without Audrey.
It was so weird at first. Even though you still had Audrey through the letters you wrote each other, you didn’t have your spunky best friend to make sure you did your homework or that you kept up with your schedule.
Still, you adjusted and adapted
You hung out with Ben a lot more, the two of you going over student council things, funding, dances, and the such.
Soon, Mal started to join you. She was going to be queen after all, so you taught her what you knew.
Things were still a bit strained, but you two worked well together.
Either way, the two of you were two of the most important girls in Ben’s life, and soon, Mal and you were able to hang out and talk without any malice towards each other
Because of that, you got to hang out a lot more with the other VKs
You saw Carlos as a little brother. You helped him deal and come to terms with his feelings for Jane.
“I’m just so scared of her.” Carlos paced the floor. “But also I want to be scared. If that makes sense? Which it doesnt, but I just don’t know how else to explain. I mean, she’s not like scary or anything, not like how my mom was scary, but like a weird scary. Like I want to make sure I do everything right in front of her.”
You bit your lips to hide your smile. “Carlos, are you scared because you think she’ll hurt you, or because you’re worried she won’t think of you as perfect?”
“… Not the first one. Jane’s too nice to do that. No, I think it’s the other thing you said.” He shrugged. “I’m stumped. I don’t know.” He plopped down on his bed and groaned. “Maybe I should just avoid her. Ignore all of this.”
“I don’t think so.”
“You don’t?”
“Nope.” You sat down next to him. “I think, that you have feelings for her. As in romantically?”
Carlos blinked.
Then, his eyes widened.
Then, his cheeks turned red.
“Oh gods.”
With Evie, you became an honorary member of her test audience. While Mal was her go to, you were her go to for the Auradon opinion.
“Is it too much?”
You tilted your head. “I mean, no. But I do think you’d need to release a line without leather. We do have citizens who were cursed to be animals, so…”
“Good point. A leather-less line! I’ll need to look into more fabric, see what could still have the same effect. Thanks.”
“No problem!”
With Jay, it was a slow process to friendship. He didn’t think he had much in common with you
That is until he saw you practicing some sword-fighting stances
“If you keep that stance, your center of balance will be off.”
You stared at your feet before adjusting it. “What about this?”
“Still a bit too high. Lower your body to the ground, keep yourself centered.”
You shifted back and forth. “This?”
“Better.”
Since then, Jay invited you to training sessions with Lonnie and him. While you weren’t as good as they were, you enjoyed your time with them
Then, the next year came, and too many things happened in a short amount of time.
Ok, please tell me if you guys want me to continue this. I posted a few months ago for people to suggest things, but as most writing things go, no suggestions came up. So, I decided to post what I had, and if people want it, another part will be posted! Please tell me who you want reader paired with please i cant decide
Part 2 is here!!

Too Far
A/N: part of my little series that started with Family that I have going on, you dont really need to read them for this to make sense but it would probably help. (its in my masterlist if you wanna read them)
You had just gotten home with the other kids when Sky said she was going to go out for a little bit with a friend. You didn’t think much of it and told her to be back by dinner.
You helped the others with their homework and they helped you with cleaning, it was a win win for everyone. Ethan wasn’t getting home until late anyways so you started dinner and decided to leave him a plate for later.
You were finishing up dinner when Sky came back in and said hello to the others. You were about to ask her to help you to set the table when Connor, your thirteen year old offered to come help you.
He helped you carry the plates over to the table and take the younger ones to wash their hands. He may be thirteen, but he was already your height and you knew he would just keep growing.
Once everyone was seated, they all started talking about their day. The boys were talking to each other about something at school during class when Sky called you.
“Hey mom?”
“Hm? Yes? You pulled your attention away to focus on her.
“Can I go to a concert on Friday?” She seemed nervous as she asked you.
“With who? You know we don’t want you going alone,” it’s not that you didn’t trust her, she was more than responsible, it was everyone else who you had a hard time trusting.
“With a friend,” she looked away and went back to cutting up her food.
“A friend? Which one?”
“You don’t know him,” she wouldn’t look your way. She knew you liked to meet her friends especially if she was going to be out at night with them.
“Then no Sky, you know the rules. If we haven’t met them it’s not happening, I’m sorry,” you didn’t want to tell her no, but that was the rule you and Ethan had set up a long time ago. You had to have met them at least once before they could go out at night with them.
“You’re not being fair! Why can’t I go? I’m seventeen, You can’t keep treating me like a baby!” But she was wrong. While you might not still treat her like a baby, she was always going to be the little girl who you found crying in the pasta aisle all those years ago.
“Sky calm down. I said no, that’s it.” You weren’t trying to fight with her.
“Mom please!” The other kids had stopped their conversation and were now focused on what was unfolding in front of them.
“No Skylar! You can’t go! If it was someone we knew then sure but we dont! I’m not trusting you with someone we’ve never met! So you’re not going to the concert end of discussion!”
“Mom! Oh wait, I forgot. You’re not even my real mom so why should I have to listen to you?” She stood up from her seat.
“Sky enough.” Not this again. You were never one to shut out your children’s feelings or thoughts but this was enough.
“No! You we’re just some random lady who was desperate for someone to care about! I bet dad would have left you a long time ago if you finally kept your legs closed! I’m tired of you telling me what to do Y/n!”
“Skylar!” Connor tried to defend you but you were silenced.
Silence.
That’s all there was after that. Sky knew she went too far but she was stubborn like her father and wouldn’t be the first one to admit she was in the wrong.
“Go to your room. Now.” You stayed looking down at your plate, appetite completely gone now. You heard her stomp up the stairs and heard her door slam.
“Mom?” Connor put his hand on your shoulder and that’s when he felt your shoulders gently shaking.
“Con, can you put everyones plates in the sink for me when they’re done? I’ll wash them later,” you took a deep breath and gently stood.
“Mom-”
“Please, Connor,” with that you went to your room and finally let out the sobs you were holding back.
You never forgot the first time Sky called you mom.
Ethan was working late and it was just you and Sky for the night. You made spaghetti since you knew the little girl liked slurping on the noodles. After cleaning her small messy face, you played a few games. You had gone to tuck her into bed when she stopped you.
“Story?” She pointed towards the small bookshelf that her uncle had made for her.
“We can read a story. Which one?” She got up and went to pull a book from the shelf. She brought over Goodnight Moon to you. You two cuddled up in her tiny bed and began reading to her.
Sky looked at each picture with her big hazel eyes and never seemed to lose interest in the story, no matter how many times you read it to her. Once you finished the book, you placed it on the nightstand to put away and laid there for a bit with her.
“I want you to know that you’re my Sky, and you’re my moon, always baby,” you placed a gentle kiss on her head before getting out of bed. You put the book back in its place and started walking towards the door.
You turned back to make sure she was okay before you turned off the light and saw her still looking at you. Usually she was snuggled up under her blanket half asleep but there she was.
“What’s wrong?”
“Hug please,” you smiled and went back to the little girl before wrapping your arms around her. Once she finally let go she curled up under her blanket and brought her stuffed dog closer to her. You stood back up when you heard her call to you one more time.
“Goodnight mommy,” you felt tears welling up and a smile came to your face immediately.
“Goodnight baby,” you gave her one last kiss before leaving her room and turning off her light and closing the door.
Mommy. That was the first time she had ever called you that.
Half an hour later, Ethan came home to find you in the bedroom with tears still coming down your face.
“Hey, what’s wrong? What happened?” He rushes over to your side and knelt next to you.
“Nothing it’s just… Sky called me mommy today.” You finally looked up at him and he wiped away a few tears.
“Oh-“
“And I know we never talked about that and if that was okay or not. But I started thinking and what if her mom comes back? What if she wants to be part of her life and having another mom just confuses Sky even more? I don’t want to do that to her, she’s so little-“
“Babe, breathe. It’s okay. It’s okay she called you mommy as long as you’re comfortable with it. I know we never talked about it, but I’m in it for the long haul. And if she ever does come back, she’s not calling her mom. She’s a stranger to her, she doesn’t deserve that title of being her mom.” He knew you were always worried about her coming back and trying to see Sky but you never really said anything until now. He made sure there was never a chance that woman would be part of Sky’s life.
“So it’s okay that she called me that?”
“It’s more than okay,” you two shared a kiss before he went to get ready for bed.
Ethan came home at 10 to find his son doing dishes while the rest of the house was quiet. Sure, Connor had helped do dishes before but he was always helping you, never alone.
“Where’s your mom, bud?”
“Her room.” His son wouldn’t even look at him. He quickly tried to remember if there was anything special about today that he might have forgotten about but nothing.
“What’s wrong?”
“Ask your daughter.” He stayed with his back still turned to his father.
“Hey, she’s your sister and you know that.”
“Not when she yells at my mom she’s not.” He threw the plate onto the counter and Ethan flinched at hearing the sound, surprised it didn’t break.
“What do you mean she yelled at your mom?” Sky loved you and sure you two had your arguments nothing was ever this bad.
“She told her she’s not her mom and that the only reason you haven’t left her yet is because ‘she can’t keep her legs closed.’ So yeah dad, she’s not my sister right now.” Ethan knew how protective Connor was of you and he shouldn’t be surprised how he was acting. Connor would always take your side no matter what.
“I’ll go talk to her. I know you’re upset but please don’t take it out on your moms plates.” Connor simply nodded before getting back to the dishes. Ethan took that as his signal to leave.
He headed into your shared bedroom to find the shower on in the connecting bathroom.
“Y/n?” When you didn’t answer he walked further in and saw you sitting on the shower floor, the water doing very little to hide the sounds of your crying.
“Oh babe, come on,” he turned off the water and grabbed the towel you left hanging nearby. He helped you stand and wrapped you up before leading you back to the bedroom. He waited a bit for you to calm down before trying to talk to you.
“Connor told me what happened, and I’m so sorry about what happened. I’m gonna talk to her-“
“How long has she thought that?” You cut him off. “How long has it been since she really saw me as her mom? This whole time? Recently? Did I do something that made her see me differently? I’ve always treated her as my own haven’t I? I don’t understand what I did wrong… if she doesn’t want to call me mom she doesn’t have to but I just… why does it hurt so much?” Ethan heart broke at hearing you question your relationship with the little girl who you helped raise.
“You didn’t do anything wrong, Y/n. You’ve been a wonderful mother to her and the others. Sky loves you so much, you have to know that. She got upset, I’m gonna talk to her okay, it’s gonna be okay.” You nodded your head and he gave you one of his shirts to change into.
“I think I’m gonna go to bed now, I’m exhausted,” with that you laid down, ready to just pass out.
Once you were asleep, Ethan left to go talk to Sky, carefully closing the door behind him before heading upstairs to her room. As he passed the kitchen, he noticed how clean the kitchen was and let out a small laugh and shook his head. Connor was a lot like you and one thing he definitely got from you was stress cleaning. He made a mental note to check on him in the morning.
“It’s dad, can I come in?” He knocked on her door and headed in when he heard her let out a quiet ‘yeah.’
“Dad can I go to a concert on Friday?” She looked at him with her puppy dog eyes that usually had her dad saying yes to whatever it was she wanted.
“No. I already know mom said no.”
“She’s not my-“
“Skylar don’t you dare finish that sentence.” She was shocked. Her dad never talked to her this way.
“She has been the one to care for you since she came into our lives. She’s done nothing but love you and you know that. And because she told you no to something even though you know damn well what the rules are, you pull the ‘not my real mom’ card on her? You should be glad she’s not your ‘real’ mom.
“That woman left you the second she could. As soon as the hospital cleared her, she was gone. No explanation other than that she didn’t want you. You want that woman in your life? She never even held you! You know why you haven’t heard from her? Because she doesn’t want any of this. She could have called if she wanted to but she never did, but you know what? You know who stepped up?
“Dad I-“ Sky knew she fucked up earlier but hearing her dad say all of this is making her realize how bad she fucked up.
“Y/n stepped up when she didn’t have to. She took care of the little girl who kept wandering off at stores and made sure she was safe. She dropped what she was doing to pick you up from school when I couldn’t be there. She agreed to move here even though she never planned to leave California because she agreed it would be better for you and your siblings to be here in Jersey. She left everything she knew for you guys. She always felt scared about being your stepmom for this exact reason and it took years to make her feel like she wasn’t just a replacement. I can understand if you don’t want to call her mom, but I’m not going to let you be rude and disrespectful towards her. You’re grounded for a month and you’re apologizing to her tomorrow. Understood?”
“Yeah… dad I’m sorry.” Sky had tears in her eyes, not from how her father was getting mad at her, but from his words. She felt awful about what she said to you.
“I’m not the one you need to apologize to.” He said goodnight to her before closing the door and leaving Sky to her thoughts.
The next morning Sky headed downstairs to find you already rushing out of the house. She glanced at the clock and saw you were already late and when she caught your eye, she could see the pain behind them.
“I have to go, bye you guys,” you closed the door and off you went. Sky went into the kitchen to find Connor helping make breakfast and was serving plates. She also noticed that there wasn’t one for her.
“None for me?” She wrapped an arm around her younger brother only for him to shove her off.
“Connor be nice to your sister,” Ethan scolded him when he saw what was happening.
“Not my sister.” He took his and a few other plates to the table for the others.
“Con…” she felt her heart break and hearing him talk to her like that. She loved her little brother so much and to hear that hurt her more than she thought it would. During breakfast he wouldn’t even look at her, much less pay her any attention.
“Hey don’t worry about him, it’ll be fine.” Ethan tried to comfort her once he saw how hurt she looked when he said that. She simply nodded and went back to picking at her food.
Later that night, dinner was just as tense, if not more since you came home. You hardly said a word to anyone, mostly just the younger kids.
Sky excused herself and placed her plate in the sink before going back to her room. She caused all of this because she couldn’t take no for an answer from the woman who cared about her whole life. Her dad was upset with her. You wouldn’t look at her. And even her little brother hated her now. She laid face down on her bed and allowed herself to cry. Her head was hanging off the side of the bed when she turned and saw something peaking out from under her bed.
The vanilla candle you got her when she ran off to you in the candle shop and her beat up copy of Goodnight Moon were sticking out from underneath. The candle was hardly used, even after all these years. She would only use it when you weren’t there to tuck her in and she would ask her dad to light it while he read to her. It was her reminder of you.
She knew you loved her. She knew how much you cared about her and Sky was so grateful for everything you’ve done for her. She remembers you being there when she woke up scared in the hospital when she got sick. She remembered you sewing up her stuffed dog multiple times because she really dragged that thing everywhere with her when she was younger. She thought of the time she cut your hair and you ended up with this awful bob and you never complained once. And every time a new baby came home you made sure to still give her time to let her now she was still just as loved and important.
And she threw it all back in your face.
She grabbed the book and got up from bed and went to go look for you in the kitchen only to find you gone.
“She’s in the room,” Ethan told her and she mumbled out a quick thank you to him. Sky walked in and saw you laying there with your eyes closed, not sleeping but just taking a moment for yourself. She quietly walked closer and crawled on the bed next to you before laying her head on your shoulder.
“I’m so sorry, I don’t care if I didn’t come from you, I love you so much. I’m sorry about what I said, I didn’t mean it. We love you so much, I love you and dad loves you even more, I shouldn’t have said what I did.” She was sobbing and you wrapped your arms around her. It was getting harder to understand what she was saying with how much she was crying.
“Sky-“
“I’m so sorry, please don’t be mad at me anymore. I’m sorry mommy,” she buried her head in your chest and continued to cry while you brushed back her hair.
“It’s okay baby, it’s okay. I know you were just upset,” you felt her wrap her arms around you even tighter. After a few minutes she eventually calmed down and loosened her grip on you and that’s when you noticed the book. She reached behind her and grabbed it before handing it to you.
“Please?” While she was definitely too old for bedtime stories, you understood what this meant for her. She wouldn’t let her siblings borrow the book because it was always hers and yours. Her bringing you the book was her olive branch to you.
“Of course,” you took the book that was being held together by layers of tape and began reading to her. When you finished, you closed it and put it on the nightstand next to you.
“Hey, you’re always going to be my Sky and my moon okay? Nothing you do is ever going to change that,” you placed a kiss on her head and she snuggled into your side even more. The two of you just laid there together and you felt her breathing even out and you knew she was asleep.
When Ethan came into the room an hour later, he found the two of you passed out together on the bed with Sky practically crushing you but you didn’t seem bothered. He snapped a quick picture and posted it.
No matter how old they get, they’re always going to be your baby.
That night he went to bed with two of his girls with him and he knew everything was going to be okay between you two and that was enough for him.

Note
I've been following you for a while but I dont know all that much about your OCs so how about a big resume of them all?? :DDD
I haven't really posted much about them on this account until recently so that doesn't really suprise me 😅 but yeah I absolutely can! Warning though this is going to be unbelievably long
I guess I should start off with Zensuke because he is THE gay purple cat. I named this blog after this guy. I made him when I was probably like 12-13 or around there so he had all the things you'd expect a repressed edgy kid's of to have. He was basically a demon who managed to get out of thier world's equivalent of hell and instead of doing anything evil he just made cake and got married to the guard who was supposed to kill him. I don't really do much with him anymore but I still love him very much.
Corbinian is probably the character I talk most about and he's the one I edit to fit into different worlds the most. He was a normal doctor but he got his memory wiped by robots and ended up working as an executioner for the robotic mafia, but eventually got caught and had to hide out in Lobotomy (he was originally a Lobotomy Corp oc) where he discovered he can extract abnormality dna and with some altering the dna can be injected into humans causing a variety of different mutations and effects. He's usually very heartless and manipulative, but does have a soft spot, usually for anxious, soft spoken people, who subconsciously remind him of his brother (who is a friends if so I can't really get into him). He also was given a variety of nicknames by the higher ups, like Corb, Corn chip, Corb on the Orb, or just Corn. Je
Corble is the result of Corb trying out human cloning. He has the same general appearance as Corbinian, but with purple hair (hence the name, because he's porble corb) that's styled differently. Since the experiment was technically a failure Corb was going to kill him, but Corble was really sweet and innocent and Corb basically went "well great guess I adopted my clone then". Corb stopped messing with cloning but adores Corble.
Might as well get all of my Lobotomy ocs out of the way. Oliver is the first Lobotomy oc I ever made, which is funny because I may or may not constantly forget that he exists. Oliver is basically a five year old kid in an adults body, and I mean that literally, because his parents basically locked him in a room and ignored him so his mental age is basically that of a kids. He's very mischievous and loves pulling pranks on people, most of which are harmless. Unless it's Corb, whom Oliver gates with a passion. Then it's thinly veiled murder attempts disgusted as pranks. He loves Fairy tales, and only works with fairy tale abnormalities because he panics with any other kind. Only one person in the entire facility can even put up with him, and that's Mabel.
Mabel is trans lesbian who can find the good in almost anyone. She's optimistic, bubbly, and has a great sense of humor. She tends to get really flustered around women though. Is it obvious I kinda projected onto her a bit? Because I did. If she wasn't in Lobotomy she'd definitely be a streamer. I'm just now realizing I basically made snapcube before I knew who that was. Whoops.
Up next is Adam! Adam is quiet, nervous, and honestly just prefers to not be noticed. Their ability to almost seamlessly blend into thier surroundings is astounding. Most people (me included) tend to just forget they exist. Which honestly is funny because they end up dating the loudest, most cocky person in the entire facility. Adam loves horror movies and spicy food.
Kieth is the loudest, most cocky person in the entire facility. He's the adopted son of a sephirah and the leader of the Rabbit team so that much is unavoidable. He's quick to anger, blunt, and tends to underestimate other people. However, he's also loyal to a fault, and willing to back his friends up no matter what. He feels like his mom's are expecting him to live up to expectations that he can't (and that they don't have but he doesn't realize that), so he's constantly throwing himself in harm's way to desperately try to prove to them that they made a good investment by adopting him or die trying. His two passions in life are collecting weapons and tending to rabbits, two of which he managed to train to sit on his shoulders and attack people. Despite being total opposites he loves Adam very much and will endure any horror movie with them, even if he's a huge scaredy cat.
Damien doesn't gave that much development, unfortunately. He came from a very religious household, moved out, and frequently gets possessed by an abnormality who makes him act like a cryptid. Totally normal stuff. He also went to law school.
Zephyr is a very, very serious individual. They've got a completely monotone color palette, speak either in short, blunt sentences or long, fanciful paragraphs with no in between, and tend to come off as cold and stiff. They're completely devoted to work, which is how they managed to become a captain. Despite this, they're very kind and caring, but unfortunately rarely get to show that side of themselves unless it's with Jamison, thier partner, both in crime and in the romantic sense. They also have a love/hate relationship with Owen, basically openly hating his guts but also enjoys thier banter and would hate if anything genuinely awful happened to them or his family.
Jamison is the complete opposite of Zephyr. He's an open book, very colorful, and tends to slack of when Zephyr isn't looking. Not on purpose, he just tends to get distracted most of the time. He's quite popular because he's very cheerful, which is rare in the higher ranks of Lobotomy. He'd absolutely die for Zephyr, and us usually the one who patches thier wounds. He really doesn't like Owen and thinks thier a pain in the ass, but keeps that to himself most of the time.
Owen is..... Interesting. I kinda went buck wild with him not gonna lie. He's one of the oldest son's of the God of Nightmares and Fire, an absolute agent of choas, and a campy fashion nightmare. But... I love them. They're both unbelievably obnoxious and also very caring. He's the kind of character you'd love but also hate at the same time. He also ended up becoming the God of Death in one timeline. If he wasn't God they'd probably run makeup guru/cursed amsr YouTube channel. Honestly he'd still run those as a God though. Also gender is a toy store and Owen is a kid who broke in after dark and is running along pushing all of the assorted genders into a cart while laughing maniacally (they use any pronouns but I stuck to just he/him they/them for this little snippet)
Alright, Lobotomy ocs done. Up next is.... Ugh... Octavious. He's originally a Danganronpa oc, the shsl gossip, and he was made to be a villian and by God does it show. He's the most fake, back stabbing, two faced character I've ever made. He's also the most one dimensional, which was actually intensional. He has no personality beyond being a petty, lying bitch, so when he runs out of lies and rumors to spread he goes into an existential crisis about how he has virtually no identity until he makes some new lie up about some random person. He's also abusive towards his younger sibling Aspyn, whom he has both physically and emotionally scarred. And, the icing on the "fuck this guy" cake, he's incredibly obsessive over his "wife" Melissa, who wants nothing to do with him and never even dated him, let alone married him. Basically he's a horrible, lying, abusive stalker. He also dresses exclusively in eye burn pink since the most poisonous bugs are usually brightly colored. Fuck Octavious, all my homies hate Octavious.
Next is Melissa, who honestly wasn't much better before her arc. She was raised to believe that in order to truely succeed in life, you have to ensure others fail. She, unfortunately, took that advice to heart. Get arc consisted of learning that we all can succeed together and that actively fucking other people over just made her an awful person, so she changed her behavior and tried to help people from then on out. She's incredibly meticulous, organized, and really smart. She still has issues trusting, but she's getting better. She has a crush on Octavious's younger sibling, but absolutely despises Octavious.
Aspyn is a quiet, caring individual who has no confidence both due to Octavious and just how they were raised. They are an incredibly skilled doctor, however, managing to perform amazingly in several different fields. They are, however, very defensive about thier passions, quick to insult anyone who questions them, mainly due to Octavious. They have a huge crush Melissa, but is to afraid to ask her out. Also they wear an eye patch because Octavious messed up one of thier eyes.
Hooo boy where to start with Edward. He's really inconsistent between universes, but the main constants are his power (he can trade bodies with people), him and Max getting together, him being a huge bookworm, and somehow he usually ends up being my self inserts dad???? Hos other aspects tend to change. Sometimes he's a power hungry megalomaniac who's trying to take over the world and will crush anyone and everyone who gets in his way or isn't useful to him, using his power evily to stay young forever by trading bodies with his kids and killing them when they're in his body. Other times, he's a fairly calm, if not a little cold, man whos biggest crime is the occasional tax evasion, who's power is more of a curse, causing him to stay alive forever through a series of unfortunate coincidences. Either way he's fun to write
Max is one of my favorite characters. He loves baking, his friends and family, he isn't too bright but no one holds that against him. Unfortunately, no matter which side of Edward it is, he's hopelessly in love with him, which can lead to his downfall. He's very protective of his cousin Heron, and tries to protect the innocent, which he usually doesn't end up doing thanks to evil Edwards manipulation. I also somehow failed to mention he's a plant man and flowers sprout wherever he walks and he can control plants but I couldn't find a good way to fit that in naturally.
Heron is half a plant man, in the worst possible way. He has rose vines instead of blood, which feels exactly how you think it would. Magic keeps his alive luckily, but it's unbelievably painful. Most of him and Max's family died when they were young, and unlike Mac who ended up on the streets, Heron ended up in an orphanage, where he learned at a young age that he shouldn't get close to anyone because if he does, they'd die. He genuinely believes that, and the only person he thinks is immune, is his cousin Max, who he even still expects to drop dead. Heron mainly fights by breaking his skin so his vines will grow rapidly and trap and kill his attacker, which looking back is uh. Kinda symbolic. I didn't do that on purpose but it fits
Eden is an angel, who was outcasted from heaven after being framed for a crime they didn't commit. They don't understand how humans work, but is trying thier best to fit in. He's one of the few beings Heron trusts, and even still Heron doesn't trust them much because of Eden's ability, being able to control holy flames. Eden is stoic and aloof, with an odd sense of humor. He insists that him baking using his holy flames is a form of training. Despite them claiming to be above human emotions, they very much are not above them and he is actually quite emotional.
Avocado is one of Herons old friends, who fell victim to Herons "luck" (aka they died). They are a drider (basically spider centaur) who came from a large family of drider thieves. They are very quiet and kind, which they use to thier advantage, since one would thing they'd steal small objects from people's houses or pickpocket them, which Avocado very much does. While they're fairly weak in combat thier thieving skills are not to be underestimated.
Grape is Avocados older sibling, and they are very serious and quite rude. Grape wants to kill Heron to avenge thier sibling, but ends up getting caught robbing the wrong person and ends up having to join the person's kids adventuring party.
Apple is the oldest drider sibling, and ends up taking a motherly role for all of the younger kids. They had to grow up incredibly fast, and has to make all of the hard decisions in place of thier dying father. Desperately needs a break.
There's more spider siblings but there isn't much info on them
Both Sherry and Theodore Poser are mainly just there because I have them really fun designs and don't really have a personality. Sherry's kinda hard to draw though

Random scattered thoughts about D3 under the cut
*The fact that everyone has basically abandoned Audrey though......where goodness doesn't get better? More like 'we'll abandon you once your dumped by our king and also rub it in your face that you couldn't hold a prince like your mother could'- also Audrey knows about the love spell and WHY Mal did it, but if that's the, case then everyone knows and still doesn't care that Mal did that- like the one person with brain cells is Audrey and shes the villain of this movie.
*Queen of Mean is a bop though- its one of the only valid songs in this movie, but also with the evil laughter almost that could be heard BEFORE Audrey puts on the crown, it makes me wonder if they planned to have Audrey be possessed after all.
*One Kiss is literally just gay panic the song, no I don't take arguments its literally Evie in gay panic mode and its Disney having to do that one heterosexual song to remind us that no, only heterosexual couples are valid in this universe- also despite dating for three years, Evie struggles to tell Doug she loves him and even doesn't believe her true loves kiss wont work???? WOW- can we say, clearly goals to have a relationship where bae stalks you originally and you struggle to tell him you love him after three years of dating and after sharing a cottage with him?
*Night Falls is a cool song, but I love how as soon as Uma tries to lead, Mal gets bitchy and acts like she can lead a sword fight better then a pirate captain could- like, mal chill, your not queen yet.
*Mal as Hades daughter.......lemme just uh, stress that's the worst twist in history, literally over-powers Mal once more with now god blood- and Do What You Gotta Do is literally daddy issues the song, and despite having the same parenting as Maleficent with how he neglected Mal basically, Hades is somehow the better parent?? HOW?! Also its never showed how Mal learnt this information.....did Disney forget to write that in or- and of course, Mal must be the only VK of the core four with a good parent- cause of course, Mal must have everything as always.
*Audrey singing Happy Birthday while cursing the party and singing 'dear jane' while smiling evilly......can we just uh say, she at least got down with the aesthetic of being a villain?
*Oh yeah, speaking of villains- despite being promoted as villains, Hades does nothing basically besides drain Mal of her magic and all 'evil' scenes from trailer is just him doing random shit or good shit, while Uma is more of a anti-hero while Celia is kinda just there doing scamming and such- Audrey was the only accurate villain to promotion and even then she only got one trailer.
*My Once Upon A Time is literally Pity Me the song and Mal even sings at the end about reaching greatness and such- Jay, Evie, Carlos and Ben got stonned for this shit.
*Also yes, they literally stonned Ben, Carlos, Jay and Evie cause only Mal can take part in final fight.
*ALSO- MAL LIED- like, girl literally lied to her friends about the isle barrier and didn't tell them she was going to seal it up, and when confronted about it, she acts like she had no choice when she MADE the decision on her own and then after friends get stonned, she goes into pity song mode and doesn't suffer much consequences for the lie afterwards.
*Audrey saying to Mal though about the love spell and how its a touching story for the grandkids.......grandkids in the future felt that burn.
*Mal is cursed into a old hag and Ben into a beast......except Mals curse wears off under the barrier while Bens is soon enough fixed by Jane blasting enchanted lake at him- just......cant have true love fix curses like they do in the movies, nah, that means our couple being true love.
*Audrey nearly fucking dies- thanks plot for nearly killing the WOC princess.
*"Mal came through"- yeah, after planning to seal up the barrier and abandon every kid on the isle basically- but its okay they didn't know so its okay, TIME TO CELEBRATE MAL AGAIN-
*Lady Tremaine's character is fucking weird- in descendants 2 they say shes not a good grandma, but here she is?! Can Disney make up their mind on how the characters are written?!
*Celia and her relationship with her father though is precious, y'all can fight me on it.
*Mal literally saying she has to be queen of the isle as well- one, excuse you that's Uma's title and two, the isle IS apart of Auradon and is a PRISON, then again, descendants 2 forgot this detail when trying to act like being from a place where VKs are abused by their parents is something you cant ignore so why am I not surprised Descendants 3 is continuing that trend.
*Mal is drained of her magic but this isn't even explored cause she gets it back when Hades gives her the ember- so guess we cant even see Mal be forced to fight a battle without magic.
*Also Hades gives Mal the ember at the end for good- BUT WHAT WILL SHE DO WITH IT?! Its probably gonna go in the museum lol- so he basically lost his weapon as well.
*The Smee twins are also precious, and the fact that Smee cares about them is adorable- plus Smee is kinda accurate in design so.
*Jay being a big brother to all....precious- but also hes clearly gay for Gil sorry don't make the rules.
*Carlos and Jane must be protected from the plot.
*Evie's plot is good as well, but her whole 'struggling to say I love you to doug' is still bullshit plot.
*Doug is as boring as ever- next.
*Uma is a queen as always- her boys were so happy to see her again and she looked so happy to see them as well, let alone seeing the sun finally when the barrier fell at the end.
*Which brings me to uh, the ending.....THEY TORE DOWN THE BARRIER- like, the entire Isle is free now, not just the VKs but also villains- VILLAINS WHO IN FIRST MOVIE WANTED REVENGE- villains who will likely hurt their kids in Auradon still and villains who will likely not want to play peaceful and happy families- I thought Mal knew how villains worked, but she thinks villains will wanna play good guys? What happened to 'your parents cant reach you here' in film 1? NOW THEY CAN- Jasmine already fucking calling bullshit if Jafar thinks he can roam free.
*Hades at the end.......uggghhhh- Mal as his kid still makes no sense and never will and we get it, protective dad joke- WE GET IT- god, those jokes tire me sometimes.
*Disney really better not be acting like they deserve an award for that Hades and Mal twist- everyone saw it coming, you gave it away with Mal's hair and the teaser trailer- which is also never explained in D3 so lol.
*Disney: *doesn't have Lonnie being mentioned at all* Lonnie: "Am I a joke to you?"
*Chads weak as always- again, next.
*Audrey does get a apology finally but um, it took THREE YEARS to do so! Y'all asked for her revenge! Like, I love Ben but who the fuck says to a pissed off person that's about to curse you and your trying to talk them out of it, "I'll forgive you" like- DUDE NO-
*VK Day is still bullshit and that's just facts- also I love how they like I wish we could take you all- WHY. CANT. YOU?! You have power to take them all of it! But you DONT! In fact, Mal later decides to seal up the barrier at one point meaning she had to abandon the VKs there and even prevent Celia from seeing her dad again! So guess she forgot the VKs and was like 'yeah seal that fucker up cause Hades stole my magic'.
*Mal needing cheering in final fight......yayyy- I didn't need anymore reminders this was a Mal movie.
*Remember when HSM3 at least felt connected to the prior movies? D3 doesn't even FEEL connected- your expected to read books that may not stand a chance at getting mentioned- also had a entire different thing with Mal's dad but Disney erased that despite connecting the books each time they said to read a book before seeing the film- and in D3, a lot of shit just feels separate to the previous two- let alone the major time skip making it harder to connect- with Young Justice, while timeskips happen you still get hints at what happened inbetween those timeskips- but with D3? None is mentioned- so your left with this as the last movie and yeah, its just messy really.
*Well at least Huma won- we got one good ship in this movie at least- too bad its surrounded by a mess.
*Thank fuck there's no more descendants movies after this- sure, its sad and descendants still has a place with me- well with the aspects I like/the characters I like- but at the same time, a fourth descendants would be disrespectful to Cameron Boyce, the only Carlos really and of course, considering how messy D3 was and how Mal centred it became, a fourth movie really is not in the future- its sad I know, but at the same time, at least descendants can live on in fandom.

80s! Haechan (AU)
so i love the 80s era and I love lee donghyuck so why not put them together? note: sorry if some of this is not fully accurate. I’m just using basic 80s pop culture knowledge (and a bunch of movie stereotypes)
genre: fluff/enemies to lovers/badboy! au.
warnings: the tiniest mention of drugs and some swearing. light badboy! au themes.
donghyuck is pretty much the bad boy of the school
he’s popular because of his attitude and attractiveness but he distances himself from everyone
he usually spends his time alone, sat at the back of the class, using his walkman to block out the world and listen to the rock mixtape he worked hard to put together.
well that’s if he even turns up to class
this little rebel has probably never attended a science class in his entire life because he always skips them
rumour has it that when he skips class, he’s hidden in one of the old store cupboards getting high or making out with one of the cheerleaders
not only was donghyuck the school’s mysterious badboy, he was also your lab partner. but, you were yet to see him actually turn up to one of the lessons.
you didn’t mind all too much. you were happy with working alone. it meant you could get the grade you needed without any distractions.
but you weren’t too happy when your teacher announced to the class that the upcoming project had to be completed with equal input from each lab partner
how the hell were you gonna pass this when your lab partner never turned up to class?!?!
as soon as the dismissal bell rang you stormed your way out of the school building and into the car park where you saw the boy lying down on the hood of his car, arms casually resting behind his head. he wore sunglasses to block out the summer sun and headphones to block out the rest of the universe.
well, that was until you forcefully pulled his headphones out of the cassette player strapped to his waist.
he immediately sat up. you couldn’t see his eyes through the shades but it was obvious donghyuck was giving you a death stare
“what the fuck is your problem?” he spat out whilst he grabbed the headphones back off you and placed them around his neck.
“you’re my problem. You’re also my lab partner. Now we have a project coming up and you will help me with it because I’m not letting someone like you fuck it up for me”
donghyuck took off his glasses and laughed at the sound you, one of the top students, using such a harsh tone
“I don’t know what you find so funny donghyuck because I swear if you don’t turn up to class tomorrow I wi-“
you were cut off by the sound of Bon Jovi starting to echo from the boy’s headphones, he was known for his heavy rock persona, not a day would go by where he wasn’t wearing his classic leather jacket
“Yeah whatever, sunshine. I’ll be there if I feel like it” and with that, he placed the headphones back over his ears to stop you from arguing any more and hopped off his car to go elsewhere, leaving you stood all alone.
an entire week had passed and donghyuck had still not turned up to a science class to do his part of the project. you were about to give up all hope and just beg your teacher to give you a different partner
well that was until you felt someone tap your shoulder and you were met with the badboy himself.
“Donghyuck what the fuck-“. Donghyuck cut you off before you could say anything else by placing his index finger against your lips.
“Listen, Sunshine, I’m only doing this because I’ll get into serious shit if I fail another class not because I like you or anything”
“I’m glad because I don’t like you either Donghyuck. I just want to pass not be your friend. ” you rolled your eyes at the thought of him ever being your friend, or more.
you watched him as he let out a loud sigh of, what you thought was, annoyance. He then handed you a slip of paper and casually told you to write down your address.
“I’ll come over tonight so we can get this shit over and done with as soon as possible” Donghyuck ordered as he took the note away from you and placed it in the back pocket of his jeans.
you immediately start to shake your head and wave your hands infront of you
“Are you kidding me Donghyuck? You can’t come to mine! My dad would freak out if I had a boy come over! We’ll just have to work together in the library like anyone else would”
this time the boy really did let out a sigh of annoyance and crossed his arms over his chest.
“God. Fine. You’ll have to come over to my place instead. We can’t work on the project in the library because I don’t want people seeing me with you”
when you heard those words leave his mouth you felt so much more upset than you would’ve expected
why do you suddenly care so much about what lee donghyuck thinks about you or says about you? you didn’t know. all you knew was that he hurt you somehow.
you were too busy looking down at the ground to notice how donghyuck instantly regretted his words when he saw your hurt self
he gently lifted your head up by placing his soft hand underneath your chin
“Quit pouting Sunshine, I was only joking. I’m just not allowed in the library because I’ve been banned, apparently I make to much noise...”. his hand quickly went from your chin to the back of his neck and he rubbed it out of embarrassment.
seeing the school’s mysterious badboy stand in front of you, with his cheeks tinted pink as his eyes searched to look anywhere other than you, made your heart rate go just a little faster than usual. maybe donghyuck wasn’t so bad after all?
-
it was just coming up to 5pm on a Friday night when you were stood at Lee Donghyuck’s front door waiting for him to answer. and to say you were nervous was a total understatement.
after what felt like lifetimes of waiting, donghyuck finally swung the door open. he stood in front of you wearing loose and baggy casual clothes, his hair messy. he was a bad boy turned soft.
he stood awkwardly under your gaze for a brief moment before returning back to his usual self and smirked at you as he stepped to the side and motioned for you to follow him inside and upstairs to his room.
donghyuck’s room was far from what you imagined it to be like. from his ‘bad’ image you expected a cluster of rock band posters to cover the walls, countless piles of clothes to be scattered across the floor, packs of cigarettes lazily hidden around the room and any illegal substances you could imagine to be placed amongst the shelves.
however you and your imagination were proved wrong when you stepped into a colourful and well kept room. framed pictures of donghyuck smiling happily with a group of boys you didn’t recognise were on display throughout the place. his shelves were filled with old action figures that must’ve been from his childhood days. countless copies of cheap comic books were stacked by the side of his bed. but what caught your attention the most was the boombox that stood next to a stand that was filled up with cassette tape after cassette tape.
“do you wanna listen to something y/n?” donghyuck said from behind you, a wide and proud smile on his face as he thought about how impressed you must be at his huge collection.
you walked over and started to pull out a few tapes at random to see what tapes he had. You started to laugh loudly as you inspected the name of the artists and songs written on the tapes.
“Donghyuck these are all pop singers,,,” you kept giggling as you turned to look at him and held up a handful of cassettes.
his eyes went wide as he remembered that he was supposed to hide away all of his ‘embarrassing’ things before you came over.
“DONT TOUCH THOSE! I-I umm, I mean those are my sisiter’s so you should put those away...” his cheeks were undoubtedly turning red and you could see that clearly he was lying.
so you decided to tease him further :)
“Wow Donghyuck I’m really surprised. I thought you were a bad boy? All anyone can ever hear in class is the sound of heavy rock coming from your headphones but now I’m finding out that you secretly listen to” -you scanned over the tapes infront of you and pulled out another one- “Cyndi Lauper?”
He snatched the tape from out of your hand and half heartedly mumbled another “that’s my sister’s tape” under his breath and looked down at the floor.
All you could do was smile at how cute the whole concept was. Donghyuck plays it off as if he is some dark and edgy rocker boy yet here he was, stood embarrassed infront of you, with a collection of cheesy pop albums bundled up in his arms. why would he be so shy about his true self?
you suddenly started to feel bad about teasing him and purposely making him feel shy in such a vulnerable situation
so, mirroring what donghyuck did to you that time in the school hallway, you lifted his head up from underneath is chin to make him look right into your eyes
“I’m only teasing Hyuck. I think these are cool and you’ve got an amazing music taste. Do you wanna listen to some Michael Jackson while we work?”
His face lit up and he gave you a beautiful bright smile. his heart felt warmer than ever. not only were you offering to play his favourite artist but you had also given him a nickname-hyuck. maybe you were starting to like him after all?
you two both sat comfortably on hyuck’s bed with the science project sprawled out in front of you but with every new playing song, a new conversation topic popped up, causing you both to forget all about the real reason why you went over that night.
the only thing that could be heard throughout the house that night was fits of laughter and giggles as you and donghyuck shared old memories, secret hobbies (as it was clear donghyuck had a lot of those), and anything else that came to mind.
“Oh my god! You’re kidding me y/n. Thriller is the best Michael Jackson song. Period.”
“Hyuck are you serious? His best song is P.Y.T and everyone knows that”
“Hey you wanna see something cool? I can do a pretty neat impression of him...”
after what felt like lifetimes more of endless laughter donghyuck came to a stop and found himself looking deep into your eyes, loving the way they glinted in the light as you smiled
and he didn’t know what gave him the sudden course of bravery. maybe it was the way you spoke to him as if you both had been best friends for years, maybe it was the way you shyly placed your hand over your mouth to hide your smile when he teased you, maybe it was just donghyuck’s heart taking more control over him than his mind
but he found the courage. he hardly even waited for you to notice how he was staring at you before he blurted it out.
“come out with me tonight to meet my friends y/n.”
you completely froze and with wide eyes you turned to give him a look as if to say ‘are you crazy?’
“C’mon Sunshine it’ll be fun, they don’t go to our school but they’re really cool and you’ll love them”
Without really having the chance to say anything you found yourself being dragged out to hyuck’s car with his hand in yours.
He turned to you and grinned as he started the engine causing the radio to start playing
You instantly pulled your hands up to your ears as the radio started to blare out heavy rock music as loud as possible
Donghyuck panicked and desperately pushed every button on the small machine to find the right one that would change the song.
After finally finding it he glanced over at you bashfully. you couldn’t help but smile back as you heard ‘every breath you take’ by the police starting to play
the whole scene was so relaxing. you both sat in a comfortable silence as the song played. the moonlight shone onto donghyuck’s features and it made you see him in a way you had never expected. you had come to the realisation that Lee Donghyuck, a boy you had hated since the beginning, was actually the most beautiful thing you had ever seen.
you turned you head away from him to look out of the window before he could notice that you were staring with heart eyes
the thought of donghyuck’s sudden beauty left your mind and you started to realise what you were actually doing. you were on your way to meet his friends.
you started to panic as all you could imagine was some sort of gang of boys that acted just the way donghyuck acted in school
what if he was taking you to the bad side of town and you would have to sit uncomfortably as a gang of mischievous teenagers stared at you wondering why the hell you were there with them?
The car came to a stop and you took in where you were.
“Are we lost?” You looked over at hyuck confused when you noticed that he had pulled up at the town’s arcade.
He rolled his eyes at you and got out of the car and waited for you to follow before heading into the brightly-lit building
Donghyuck grabbed you by the wrist and pulled you around the entire arcade but came to a sudden stop when you reached a group of five boys, all huddled around another boy whose eyes were fixated on the game of Pac-Man playing in front of him.
Donghyuck leaned in closer to you so that his voice could be heard over the sound of other games and shouting kids “if it’s Mark playing then I’ll give it a few more seconds before he completely blows it and dies”
A few moments later you heard the group of boys let out shouts of disappointment as ‘game over’ appeard on the screen infront of them. Donghyuck just stood there next to you with a smug grin playing on his lips until one of the boys turned around and noticed he had arrived.
“Hey look, Hyuck finally arrived and he’s brought someone” he said as he tapped a few of the others on the shoulder to gain their attention
The rest of the boys turned around and, like most things in donghyuck’s life, they were far from what you imagined them to be like. they all looked as if they couldn’t hurt a fly. after they had all introduced themselves to you, all of you made your way throughout the arcade playing game after game.
a while later it had finally started to get close to your curfew hour. you waved goodbye to your new group of friends and hyuck took your hand in his as he walked you to the car so he could take you home
“You’ve really surprised me today Lee Donghyuck” you said truthfully and took a glance at his cute concentration face as he drove through the darkness
“What were you expecting? me and my friends to be in some sorta hardcore gang? Sorry to let you down y/n but all we do is spend the week saving up quarters so we can spend Friday night beating the arcade’s high scores”
this time he wasn’t embarrassed or shy when talking about the real side to him. he felt so relaxed around you that he knew he could show his true self. after all that had happened that night, donghyuck knew that you weren’t an enemy. he knew that you weren’t just a person from high school that he’d forget all about in the years to come. he now knew that you were a friend, maybe even more.
Donghyuck switched the engine off once he had pulled up to your house and turned over to make his whole body face you as one of his arms rest on the wheel.
“Y/N, I’ve... I’ve had a real good time with you tonight and I was wondering if you want to like go out sometime again? but...just us two? like maybe we could catch a movie? I heard that’s what couples like to do... there’s that new movie out soon, the breakfast club or something like that-“
“Donghyuck are you asking me out on a date?” you cut him off from his messy rambling
“Yeah I think I am. So, are you up for it Sunshine?”
You couldn’t help but give him the biggest smile ever as you felt your cheeks heat up from happiness
“Of course I’ll go on a date with you Hyuck”
And with that, he leaned over and gave you a small kiss out of joy and excitement. You really had turned the badboy soft.

Unpacking was quick, and quiet. Though with Sam silences weren’t particularly unsettling. There were hundreds of occasions where it was just the two of you left alone with a bottle of whiskey and a mountain of lore to sift through. You never felt like you had to make small talk to fill in the gaps, you never really felt like there were any gaps and when the chats did come up they flowed naturally and without expectation. Being with Sam was just comfortable, he was easy to exist beside. Which made him easy to fall for, easy to love.
Dean was always open about his designs toward you. More often than not you figured he was being facetious, but he hit on you frequently enough that it was obvious he’d go for it if only you’d ask.  Sam on the other hand was always respectful, even when he had full opportunity not to be. Last year he’d found a particularly exciting tidbit of information that apparently couldn’t wait to be shared. So he walked into your room without knocking, when you’d just stepped out of the shower- hair wrapped in a towel and nothing else. You screamed at him in surprise, hitting the floor behind the bed to hide your bare ass. It took only a split second to register and he turned away just as quickly, face red as a tomato as he covered his eyes, calling: “Sorry! I should have knocked! Sorry!” He left and never brought it up again. But for the rest of the day he couldn’t look you in the eye without red creeping into his cheeks, and you couldn’t help but grin a little. From then on out he made doubly sure that he knocked before entering whatever room you were lodged in. If he didn’t hear a response he’d just wait, patiently, and knock again.
Though you’d never barged in on him, you were guilty of sneaking peeks at him where you could. You liked watching him, he was strong, and tall, and elegant. It wasn’t as if watching him hang his giant shirts was anything particularly invigorating. Still you enjoyed the view. His shoulder to waist ratio alone was enough to drive you crazy. And you’d seen him without a shirt on, you knew what was hidden under layers of canvas, plaid and cotton. A golden expanse of taut rolling muscle, all firm and warm and inviting. You were practically dripping at the thought of running your fingers through the soft hair on his chest.
Sam turned his head in your direction and you snapped your eyes back to your bag as if it were the most interesting thing in the entire world. Oh shoes, fucking fascinating. Socks, amazing. Underwear, such nice material! You’d deny it if you were asked, but you packed your nicest panties. Not that you had much in the way of lingerie, but like everyone you had the ones you wore on your period, the ones you wore any random day, and then you had the nice ones. The ones you wore when you wanted to feel sexier, the ones you wore when you were trying to get lucky or show off a little.
He could have sworn he’d caught you looking at him, but brushed it off as wishful thinking. Taking your preoccupation as a moment for himself to gaze at you and appreciate the curve of your ass when you bent at the hips to carelessly shove your bag under the bed. Strong thighs and shapely legs, the kind he’d like more if they were draped over his shoulders.
Dropping into the bed with a sigh you rolled to your back allowing yourself to sink into the bed that was almost too soft, too fluffy, too comfortable. It was a complete change from the norm, where you weren’t sure if the sheets were actually washed, and the bed was so hard the floor was a more comfortable option. But you were not one to complain about the tiny offerings of luxury your life occasionally offered. Wiggling your hips you settled in with a pleasured groan and let your eyes fall shut, only for a moment, to appreciate the most comfortable bed you’d ever get the chance to sleep in.
Sam watched you enjoy yourself with a grin. When the soft moan escaped your throat he found himself trying not to think about the sounds you make as your fingers gripped the blankets or nails raked red welts down his back. Or your teeth sinking into a pillow to stifle the pornographic cries that would fall from your lips. The way your hips would move and roll in tandem with his until all you could do was hold on as he fucked you into that bed and fell apart beneath him. He would make you forget how to speak, the only thing you’d be able to scream would be his name and a flurry of barely intelligible curse words in desperation. “Sam..! Uuuhhn-fuck, Sam!”
“Sam!” You shouted as you smacked him in the arm jerking his attention back to Earth as he turned to look at you, upright on your knees still in the bed. Surprise and embarrassment written on his face, cheeks flushed pink. “Did you hear a word I said?”
“Hmm? What? Uh-yeah.. Of course.” He scoffed and stumbled through his words as he sank into the edge of the bed beside you, crumpling the large plaid shirt in his hands into a ball in his lap to hide his frustration. Cocking your brow in amused confusion at his uncharacteristic fluster you handed him a nicely laminated printed card.
“What were you thinking about?” You quizzed. There was no price too high that you would pay to sneak a peek into his head. It wasn’t terribly often that you’d catch Sam spacing out, he was always pointed and focused. Even if you couldn’t tell exactly what was rolling around in his mind you could guess, and 90% of the time it had something to do with whatever crisis was being dealt with at the time. On occasion though you’d see him like he just was, obviously off in la-la-land somewhere, and those were the times you wanted desperately to know what he was thinking.
“Nothing.” He defended a little too quickly as he snatched the card from your hand ready to change the subject to literally anything else. There was no force on this Earth that would get him to admit the perverse things he thought about you- let alone to your face. The idea of how your expression would change to uncomfortable disgust at the notion made him cringe. He was looking at the card but couldn’t tell you what a single word said. “What did you say?”
“I knew you weren’t paying attention!” You affirmed your accusation poking your index finger into his rib. Tapping the card in his hand you continued. “Firstly, I don’t know how to tell you this, because I don’t want to break your heart or anything but- no wi-fi. Secondly, look at this itinerary! You don’t actually expect me to do this tonight do you?”
No wi-fi would be a problem, that meant limited research. It was to be expected though, the place was set so remotely he didn’t think there would be much signal of any kind, so he didn’t show up naked entirely. He brought his Dad’s journal, and a few other books, and he’d had quite the collection scanned and loaded on his computer. Hopefully whatever it was they ran into would be somewhere in the materials he brought. If not, you’d be taking a trip to the city for internet access. Skimming over the card to follow what you meant he let out a snicker.
“This is what you’re worried about?” Sam asked flatly as he held the card up. You gave an exaggerated shrug, not sure what was so unclear about what you were saying. “A cooking class? Really Y/n?”
“What, Sam? I don’t cook! I can burn water.” You stated matter-of-factly. It wasn’t true necessarily, you’d never burnt water, but you’d also never successfully cooked anything in the way it was actually supposed to be cooked. It wasn’t like it was your fault! Everything you ate was microwavable. Besides the fact that you hadn’t grown up around a functioning kitchen. Frankly cooking was the least of your worries. You were basically a human garbage disposal anyway. As long as it was cooked all the way through, and at least mildly edible you were good. Carbs were carbs. Calories were calories. No one was expecting you to be a gourmet chef when you were regularly covered in monster viscera.
Sam gave a soft laugh shaking his head and turning to look at you as he nudged you with his shoulder giving you a sweet smile. Those dimples. God, you could have drowned in them.
Tumblr media
“Y/n, I have the utmost faith in you. You can attend this stupid cooking class and you’ll kick it in the ass.”
“You’re sweet. But you’ve never tasted my cooking.”
“Hey, no matter how terrible it turns out, I promise I will lie and say it is delicious.” Sam reassured you with a grin. You smiled back in mock offense and shoved his shoulder as you plucked the card from his hands, and stood.
“Wow, Sam. Thanks for the vote of confidence.”
“Anytime.” He snarked watching you start to pace, your eyes glued to the text.
“I mean look at this crap- is this really what normal couples do for fun?” You paused dropping your hands to your sides. He only answered with a shrug, neither of you exactly had much to compare with. You turned your attention back to the card and continued. “Wine tasting.”
“What’s wrong with Wine tasting?”
“Who drinks wine? Rich people, Depressed Mom’s and Lonely Single Women- that’s who.”
“I like wine.” He defended. Your face twisted in skepticism.
“I have never seen you with a glass of wine before. Whiskey, Bourbon and Scotch- sure. But Wine? C’mon Sam.” You didn’t wait for him to answer as you continued to the next item.  “Dancing on Thursday. Do you dance, Sam? Because I don’t dance.”
“Now- that’s not entirely true.” He interjected with a suggestive grin. He’d seen you dance before, a few times. Usually after a few shots, and with some lucky local you’d pick up for the night. Sober you may not dance, but drunk you certainly knew how to move those hips. Heat crept into your cheeks and you moved on, not even wanting to dignify his comment with a response.
“Friday night Movie night. They have a movie night.”
“Hey, I’m not exactly excited either, but it can’t be all that bad.” Sam offered. Half trying to convince himself. From the flat side-eye he earned it was apparent there was no thrill to be had on your part.
“I mean you’d think there’d be stuff on here like hiking, or yoga, or a couples spa.” You huffed and dropped the card on the table beside the bed. “Can we just… go wander around and scope the place out instead?” You asked, you could think of a thousand things you’d rather be doing than attending some stupid cooking class. Just about anything sounded like a less painful option. You’d rather be bound and gagged by something trying to eat you than have to figure out what the fuck a Souffle is.
“I’m sure we’ll be back from checking out the property in plenty of time. If there’s anyone else staying here they’ll probably be there, it’ll be a good chance to talk to some of the others here. See if they’ve heard anything.” Sam reasoned, always logical, and usually right to your displeasure. With a groan you let your chin tilt back and your shoulders slump, a little light bulb going off in your head. Rolling your head up to a tilt you gave him a flirtatious smile. He opened his mouth to speak and you placed your index finger over his lips. They were soft, and warm, and you wondered if he tasted as sweet as his cotton-candy pink mouth looked.
The glimmer in your eyes shifted changing in an instant from your usual sweet and sour demeanor to looking at him through curling lashes sultry and tempting. You hand fell from his lips to curl a long chestnut brown strand of his hair around your finger.
“What if, instead, we skipped it.” Your tone painting a vivid picture. With your cocked brow and devious smile there was no mistaking what you were suggesting. “Said we just couldn’t make it down, because we were... Busy.”
You were supposed to be newlyweds after all, and what was more convincing of a happy, healthy, lovey-dovey relationship than blowing off some bullshit class because you were too busy fucking all night?
Sam swallowed the tension in his throat, if that were an actual option on the table there would have been no need to convince him. Nevertheless he was more than willing to go along with your game, if that’s where you were taking it, two could play. His large hands settled on your hips, warm and heavy, creating gooseflesh through the thin cotton layer of t-shirt. You wanted his hands on you forever. Wanted to burn his fingerprints into your skin like a tattoo. He pulled you in, between his thighs and close enough to feel the heat radiating off of him, his cologne filling your senses. The corner of his lips curling into a smile as he peered at you with those kaleidoscope eyes making you weak in the knees.
“You make a very compelling argument.” His voice smooth like scotch and just as intoxicating. Taking your chin between his thumb and forefinger made your heart skip a beat, or just dead stop. You couldn’t tell, your eyes falling to his lips, nervous anticipation shooting like an electric current through your veins. The slow drag of his thumb over your lower lip made heat pool low in your belly and your breath catch in your throat. He edged closer to you close enough to feel the heat of his breath caress your face. “But we’re still going.”
Then he smiled at you, a shit-eating grin and stood up to finish doing whatever the hell he was doing. His hands dropped away from you leaving you standing there breathless and trying to recollect your wits. Your eyes nearly rolled back into your head in frustration. Folding your arms over your chest you plopped on the bed with a pout, and crossed your legs tightly trying to ease the pressure that had built.
“That was a nice moment Sam. That was a nice moment, and you ruined it. I hope you’re proud of yourself.” You snarked, and by the grin still plastered on his face- he was.
Tumblr media
Standing at the top of the long gravel drive you held a map open in front of you, Sam right behind you and able to see clear over your head without issue. Little red dots stippled the map and at the very center of them sat the Inn. Reaching a long arm around you he pointed at one of the markers.
“Alright, so that’s where the last vic was found.”
“Correction- that’s where parts of the last vic were found.” You interjected, his lips pressed into an unamused line as he looked around the property, extending an arm to the left of the driveway and into the thick of the woods.
“Right, parts. Whatever, that’s about a mile that way…”
“Every bit of remains they’ve found have been at least a mile from here. They’re not exactly grouped in one area either. Look at this, they’ve been found just about everywhere. This is a really wide net we’re trying to cast here Sam.” You expressed at the spattering of red dots all over the place. Some further out, some closer in, and everywhere.
“Right, so we go to the freshest spot and hope we get lucky.”
“Great plan and all, except the remains at that location were two months old when they were found. I sincerely doubt that whatever’s out there is going to be there still. Especially with Police in and out of there for the last couple weeks.” You said. Sam paused hazel eyes scanning the treeline as he absorbed the information you were giving him with a nod.
“Guess we’re just gonna have to pick a direction.”
“Okay.” You agreed, folding up the map and stuffing it into the pocket on the inside of your coat, cinching the button at your waist. “Which way you wanna gamble on?”
“Hold on- let me see that map again.” He asked, absentmindedly. You sucked your teeth digging back into your coat to retrieve it. “Isn’t there a lake around here?”
“Yeah, not just one though, there’s several in the surrounding three miles.” You answered unfolding the paper again, and handing it to him to study.
Looking down the winding gravel road and into the mist that seemed to breathe between a trees a chill slid up your spine. You always got antsy before hunts. Couldn’t help it. Didn’t matter what you faced or how many times, it always gave you the jitters. Even after all these years you still got scared. You would never admit it of course, and you’d mastered the poker face to keep it under wraps. But there was honestly no way for you to truly prepare yourself for whatever was out there, not when a single slip up could mean the end. Each new hunt, even with a foe you were familiar with was still jarring and nerve-wracking. It would always be until you either died or didn’t hunt anymore.
“Going for a hike?” The woman’s voice from behind you made you jump nearly out of your skin with a gasp. Hand on your chest you turned around wide eyed to see Esmeralda standing there with perfect black curls surrounding her perfectly cut face, cascading down her perfectly petite shoulders. She wasn’t asking you of course, her eyes fixed on Sam who folded up the map and tucked it in his back pocket as he turned his head to face her.
“Uh, yeah. Thinking about it.” He answered, she gave him a smile, a perfect smile, with straight white teeth and full pouty lips. She was so pretty you kind of hated her for it. Like, damn lady, we get it, you won the genetic jackpot, you don’t have to rub it in by existing and breathing air.
“Well there are a few trails if you follow the drive down to the main road. Though some of them can be a little hard to navigate if you don’t know where you’re going.”  Esmeralda explained. God, even her voice was perfect and sexy. You could have groaned, or rolled your eyes- you didn’t because you didn’t make a habit of being rude, not that it would have mattered anyway. She wasn’t paying attention to you in the slightest, you could have been a sentient tree and it wouldn’t have made a lick of difference. No, instead she was focused completely on Sam, placing a delicate little hand over his bicep as she pointed around the property. Because groping him was obviously necessary for giving directions. Her fingers were so long and elegant and slender you imagined they’d snap like toothpicks with the proper amount of pressure. “If you’re looking to sight-see, the paths to the North West behind the Inn take you further up the Mountain with plenty of breathtaking views.”
“Actually we’re thinking about checking out some of the lakes.” Sam replied. She smiled at him as if it was the most novel idea she’d ever heard while giving his arm as squeeze.
We get it! He’s jacked. Back off lady. You thought, gnawing on the inside of your lip, just waiting for the whole conversation to be over already. Would it be appropriate to bust up the party a little? You were, after all, supposed to be his wife for all she knew. But you didn’t want to come off as possessive, or jealous. Even though you were and it was absolutely killing you! You resolved to just crossing an arm over your chest and chewing on your thumbnail as if it were going to help you keep your composure in some way.
“To the West is Spider Lake, it’s further into the woods and up the mountain, Spider Creek feeds into it, it’s lovely up there. And to the South East about a mile and a half is Lake Kulla Kulla. It’s a wonderful spot for fishing I hear- if that’s something you enjoy..”
“Thanks, Esmeralda.” Sam replied.
“You’re most welcome Mr. Wesson. Do be careful not to stray too far from the paths, people get lost in these woods easily.” She cautioned. Her voice oozed over ‘Mr. Wesson’ as if she could have sex with the words. Her hand was still glued to his arm like a fucking magnet.“Oh and you will be back in time for tonight's activity won’t you? I’d hate for you to miss out on all of the fun.”
“Yeah, yeah, we plan on being there.” Sam assured with a smile as he stepped back detaching from her grasp and wrapped an arm around your shoulders. Your arms fell around his waist instantly as you leaned into him.
“We are just so excited.” You lied enthusiastically as you brought your right hand to his chest resting over his heart, making sure the little rock on your finger was near impossible to miss. Her icy green eyes cut to you with a look of pure distaste. You recoiled stunned and more than a little put off- if looks could kill. It was brief, nothing more than a flicker before she gave another radiant smile, but you caught it.
“Wonderful, we’ll see you when you return. Enjoy your hike.” Esmeralda said before heading back to the Inn. Sam turned his attention back to the map but you watched her sashay until she disappeared inside.
“The fuck was her problem?” You scoffed Sam turned his eyes to you curiously with a furrowed brow.
“What?”
“You didn’t see that?” You asked jutting your thumb behind you.
“See what?”
“You didn’t see the look she gave me?”
“No?”
“Well she looked at me like I spat on her, or pushed her Grandma down the stairs for funsies…” Or like she was pissed that the hulking Adonis in front of her was spoken for. Not that it seemed to matter to her much. Sam chuckled in response, studying your body language as you shifted your weight from one foot to the other, chewing on your fingernail in nervous frustration, eyes like daggers on the front door of the Inn. If he didn’t know any better he might have mistaken that look on your face for jealousy. But you were always a little on edge before a hunt- you’d never admit it, but he knew.
You were pretty good at covering, but he’d known you too long not to pick up on the buzzing nervous energy coming off of you in waves. It never ceased to amuse him though. You were fearless, if there was ever hesitation about going into a situation you wouldn’t wait for a game of rock-paper-scissors, you’d just go in. He figured you did it because you either liked embarrassing them a little that you’d go in before either of them, or out of the need to show yourself that you weren’t afraid. Either way your courage in the face of your own palpable anxiety was endearing, and something he admired about you.
“What do you think- start with Spider Lake?” He asked. You answered with an agreeable shrug.
“Monster’s gotta have a watering hole right?”

I Knew Him Tree Bros Fic
Based on @nellos12 Middle School AU
Evan was cleaning out his closet. He had just finished a big project for college and found himself with nothing to do. Ever since he started working at the Pottery Barn he always felt the need to keep himself busy. It was tough, balancing work and college but he managed. He was also slowly reconciling with Jared and Zoe. How they forgave him he'd never understand...
"You're trying to put your past behind you, remember" He thought.
He pulled down a stack of books from his shelf and found they were a bunch of old yearbooks. Evan smiled slightly. He had never really cared enough to want his yearbooks, no one signed them anyway, but his mom had made sure to order and keep every single one. He pulled a random one from the stack, his seventh grade yearbook, sat on his bed and began flipping through it. Within minutes he found his old class photo. He traced along the many faces searching for his own but something else caught his eye. A tall boy with tangled red hair falling into his eyes and a cheeky grin on his face.
He recognized his eyes.
Blue with just a smidge of brown in the left one.
Could that be...?
No. No way. There was no way he and Connor were in the seventh grade together! He would have remembered! He would have...although his hair was different. A lot about him looked different. His frame was much more filled out in this this picture than the thin, lanky teenager Evan had come to barely know. His cheeks weren't so hollow, though his cheekbones just as high, and his eyes weren't so angry. The more he looked at the picture the resemblance grew.
"If I don't get an answer for this I'm gonna lose my mind!" He thought.
He hesitantly picked up his phone and dialed Zoe's number.
"Hello?"
"Hey! Zoe It's-It's me. I um...I kinda have a-a-a question for you. I uh I was looking in this old seventh grade year book and I saw something and I really didn't wanna have to ask you but your really the only person I could ask and this is gonna drive me crazy if I don't figure this out and-"
"Evan!" She interrupted. "Just...ask the question."
Evan took a breath. Zoe had always helped him calm down. Carefully he asked the question. "....Did...did Connor ever have red hair?
There was quiet for a moment and Evan was sure he had really screwed up but then-
"When he was younger, yeah. He was a natural ginger like mom. He dyed it brown in freshman year and he kept it like that ever since so...yeah."
"Oh...ok...I'm sorry."
"Don't Evan. It's okay. Why'd you wanna know?" He could hear her smile over the phone and thanked God that she was so understanding.
"...I think Connor and I might have had the same seventh grade class."
"Oh..."
Silence reigned again. Evan hated that. Those moments of silence when no one was sure what to say or even if something should be said and it was all just so horribly awkward. Evan HATED it. With a passion. He was about to stutter out something, ANYTHING just to break the tension when Zoe did it for him.
"...Hey maybe sometime...you could let me take a look at that picture? I've almost forgotten what Connor looked like with red hair."
"Y-Yeah of course." Evan answered.
Zoe chuckled. "Y'know this whole...mess...its kinda given me a new perspective on him. Made me remember the good days."
"I thought you said there weren't-"
"I was wrong." She sighed "I guess I spent so long thinking about the bad stuff...I forgot about the good. Heh. Y'know the other day I was thinking about this video interview thing dad was doing for his company and they had Connor and me stand in the background and they told us 'look like your talking, it'll look more natural'. And Connor said to me, 'So we could say anything and no one would ever know?' He he! So we were like, 'Watermelon, watermelon watermelon, crocodile, hairdryer, toilet paper!' just talking random nonsense! I had to try so hard to keep a straight face and not ruin the shot!"
She broke into giggles.
Evan chuckled. "That's...awesome."
Zoe's laughter died down and for another short moment there was silence over the line.
"I haven't thought about that in so long...how could I...forget something like that?"
Evan felt like he should say something but all that came out was "I...I-I don't um..."
Zoe interrupted before he got too lost in his rambling.
"Evan?"
"Y-yeah?"
"Thanks for calling."
"Oh...oh yeah uh n-no problem thanks for uh...thanks for talking to me, Zoe."
"Bye Evan."
"Bye."
Evan hung up the phone and put his face into his hands. So much was coming back to him.
"Hey."
Evan turned and saw a somber looking kid with messy red hair. He had seen him before, he was known for his hair triigger temper and most kids avoided him. One time a girl had shoved him up against the wall in fourth grade and called him a "psycho freak". She had gone home with a bloody nose and missing four teeth. And now he wanted to talk to him?!
"W-what? Me?" Evan stuttered.
"Yeah. C'mere."
"W-why?"
"Just come here! I'm not gonna do anything bad!" He stomped his foot childishly.
Evan reluctantly approached the preteen and was almost hit in the face himself by accident as the boy stiffly held out a crumpled twenty dollar bill.
"Come to my bar mitzvah."
Evan blinked at him. "...what?"
The boy rolled his eyes when he doesn't understand.
"Come to my bar mitzvah and you can have this."
Oh. Ooohhhh. Wait. This guy wanted him to come to his party? Why? And why was he paying him?
"I-I would come anyway."
"...Really?"
"Y-yeah."
The red haired boy stood there looking stunned, almost confused for a moment. He looked him up and down, almost like he was assessing him, before sliding the Spider-Man backpack off of his shoulders and fishing an equally crumpled invitation out of it. He handed it to Evan who took it, still not quite believing this was happening to him.
"Its this friday. The address is inside. I'm Connor. By the way."
"Uh...okay...why me? N-not that I don't wanna go! I-I I do! I was just wondering-" Evan stuttered, flailing his arms trying to communicate his point. He half expected Connor to just snatch the invitation out of hand.
"Cause I have no friends. And I know that you don't either. So..."
That stung a bit but it was true. The two stood awkwardly, staring at each others shoes for a moment before Connor began to walk away.
"I-I have a barmitzvah coming up soon!" Evan blurted out before he could stop himself. Connor turned to look at him, confused. "W-what I mean is uh i-If you wanted to come...that'd be...uh...that'd be cool."
There was that stunned look again. "Um...sure." And with that he turned and walked away.
It was a relatively small party for such a big house. Probably because he was the only one who showed up. They mostly stayed in Connor's room, played video games and ate cake and chips. Evan was actually having a pretty good time. After a little while Connor's mom had ushered them outside to play. Having nothing else to do they started playing tag. It was a little childish and kinda weird with only two people but fun. When Connor caught up to him he tackled him, trying to roughhouse and bruised his cheek. Evan had started crying and Connor let him go immediately. He led him inside and gave him a water bottle for his cheek. "Shit! I'm so so sorry Evan!"
"...That was a swear."
"I just gave you a bruise and you're worried about me swearing?!"
"S-sorry..."
"What're you apologizing for?"
"I-I'm not m-mad. It's okay."
They stayed inside and talked until Evan's mom came to pick him up.
Connor did end up coming to Evan's Barmitzvah later that year.
"So my m-mom's f-finshing the cake w-we could just h-hang out until then." He said timidly as they walked into his room. Connor stood awkwardly in the center of the room looking around before his eyes fell on a bin of carefully ordered comic books next to his bed. "You like comics?" He asked.
"Y-yeah! Wanna see em?" Evan perked up after being asked about something that interested him. Connor smiled.
"Got any Spider-Man?"
"Sure! I-I like Wolverine." Evan added as he picked up a Spider-Man comic and handed it to Connor.
Connor shrugged. "He's okay."
"D-do you not have any? C-comics I mean." Evan asked.
Connor frowned. "A few. My dad doesn't like em."
Evan didn't say anything more. So he and Connor sat on the bed, read comics and talked about superheroes until his mom called them down for cake.
Connor and Evan talked consistently through seventh grade. They didn't often go over to each others houses but they saw each other at school and hung out there. So when the middle school dance came around it was only natural that they'd go together as friends. Neither of them were gonna get dates and their parents were pressuring them to go ("It'll be good for you!" They said.) so they went together. They stood off to the side in a loud, crowded, sweaty room before the noise became to much for Evan and they went outside. Evan was breathing hard trying to calm down.
"You okay?" Connor asked.
"I'm fine! J-Just...don't like crowds...why did our mom's make us go?" Evan panted. Connor shrugged. "Cause they want us to make friends."
Evan shook his head, finally calming down a bit. "Yeah...I guess."
"But I've already got a friend. I've got you." Connor said, pushing his red hair behind his ear.
And then Evans heart was racing again as soon as it had calmed. "I-I'm you're friend?"
"Yeah. Do you have a problem with that?" He asked, suddenly becoming defensive.
"N-no! No I just d-didn't know if you were okay y'know...with me." Evan looked at his shoes.
Connor looked away. "I didn't know if you were okay with me."
"O-of course I am! Y-You like Spiderman and videogames and your funny and c-cool!-"
"And psychotic." Connor smirked self deprecatingly.
"...I d-dont think so." Evan muttered. Connor half smiled. "You're pretty cool too."
Evan's heart skipped a beat. There were butterflies in his stomach.
Before he could think about what he was doing he stood on the tips of his toes and pressed his lips to Connor's. The kiss was quick. Barely a few seconds. When Evan pulled back Connor's face was taken over by a shocked expression. "Oh crap! This is it! I'm gonna get punched!" He thought. But Connor didn't move. He was rooted to the spot. A blush slowly rose to his cheeks and as it slowly sunk in what he had just did Evan began blushing too. The blonde turned away and covered his face with his hands. "I'm s-so sorry!" He whimpered. Connor didn't respond. Evan summoned his courage and peeked between his fingers. Connor still hadn't moved, his hand was covering his mouth, his eyes stared straight ahead and a dark red blush was up to his ears. The muffled sound of the booming music was the only sound between them. And that's how they stayed until their parents came to pick them up.
After the dance they talked less and less. Evan asked Connor if he was mad at him, Connor had said no but the distance between them continued to grow. By the time eighth grade rolled around and Connor moved house the separation was pretty much permanent.
Evan lifted his head out of his hands and felt the tears running down his face. He knew him. He actually knew him. Connor had been his friend. He had been his first crush. Evan laid back on his bed. In a few minutes he would call Zoe again, or maybe his mom, he would explain what he had remembered, he would explain to someone who would understand. But for now he lay back on his bed and cried for a bit. For the first time he fully felt the effect of Connor's loss.

All the Little Horses Part 7
Week 20
You've got a heavyweight in your belly at 20 weeks pregnant (well, in baby terms, anyway). Your little champ weighs about 10 ounces and has a height, crown to rump, of about six and a half inches. Think small cantaloupe (and probably as sweet too). While your baby is definitely getting bigger, there's still plenty of growing room in there, which allows them to twist and turn (and allows you to feel those acrobatics!). You may find, a few ambivalent or anxious feelings you're even ambivalent about admitting (Me a mom? There must be some mistake!). Don't worry — and hang on. At some point in pregnancy (and usually once that pregnancy becomes a very visible reality) just about every expectant mother (and father!) begins to feel anxiety and fear as though she's on a runaway train — with enormous changes coming round the bend
I stood in the kitchen, cutting up an apple for breakfast, focusing intently on the crisp sound of the knife cutting through the fresh fruit. I’d gone to the store the other day, and had spent ninety percent of the time trying to convince Cal that we didn’t need half of the things he grabbed, and the other ten percent trying to control my desire to grab random things to make concoctions. Eating natural sugar was supposed to control my craving for other types according to my mother, but I still ended up eating ice cream at eleven at night only to groan in annoyance after a few spoonfuls and put it back. After a few minutes though, I would have the carton back out and a spoon in hand. Cal always found this little routine funny, but he constantly joined in, and told me that anything in moderation was fine. Besides, he’d tease, I was constantly walking and doing all the work outs that Ada had specified for me. At least those made me feel a little better about the massive weight that was sitting between my hips.
Cal chose that moment to leave the bedroom. He hummed to himself while he fixed his cuff links and pinned them together. I watched him out of the corner of my eye as he came up behind me and pressed a light kiss on my cheek. I chuckled softly, and set the knife down, before stepping around him to grab the bottle of ketchup I had left on the counter. He glanced at it suspiciously before saying, “You put that on your apples and I swear to God, I will break off our engagement.”
Smiling wickedly at him, I uncapped the bottle and dumped it on my apples. Cal looked appalled when I lifted one of the apples slices up and bit into it then, ketchup and all. I swallowed and then sticking my tongue out at him, I said, “Go ahead, break up with me.”
Turning away he grumbled something and I smiled as I leaned my lower back against the counter and finished my apple slice. I swallowed, and revealed in how good it felt to keep food down, even if it was the most disgusting combination the world had yet to see. As I went to grab another slice, my stomach did a rapid turn, and my hand flew to my belly, which had swollen to twice its size over the past month. Cal hadn’t noticed my movement yet, and I felt the baby turn again, and place a soft kick into my hip. I smiled to myself, and ran my hand along the spot where I had felt the movement, ignoring the pains in my skin from its growth.
Cal turned around from pouring his coffee and the minute he saw my hand, his eyes dropped to my stomach and he asked, “She moving again?”
“He is moving like an Olympic gymnast, maybe we should think about enrolling him in gymnastics.” I replied with a mischievous smile. Our baby certainly seemed up to the task. It had been tossing in my stomach for days now, kicking and making its presence known, mostly in the middle of the night when I was sleeping. And just like my mother had promised, sleep was getting harder to find. I had started pressing myself up against Cal’s back so that he could feel our child’s acrobatics, but also because I liked the support now.
Just as everyone had promised me, the first few weeks of my second trimester had been fantastic, I had felt amazing, but now, everything was starting to catch up with me. My new weight now felt like a hundred pounds when it was really only ten, my ankles were swollen, and my legs felt like they might seize up at any second. Other than those though, I felt like I was actually glowing. The baby wasn’t too much of a pain yet, and I could still enjoy it, but that was going to change very soon, and I knew that.
Cal stepped toward me and setting his mug on the counter next to me, he leaned down and cupped the back of my neck to pull me in for a kiss. I smiled around the touch and whispered, “Are you going to get off work early today?”
“Most likely, why?” He replied as he set his hand on my stomach and baby kicked out against his hand, making him smile. I set my hand on top of his and grinning up at him, I whispered, “Because I want to start looking at paint for the nursery, and what we might want to do for cribs and all that. My mom told me at lunch yesterday that we better start planning now, cause it’ll be here before we know it.”
Cal seemed to glow with happiness, before pressing a kiss to my forehead and whispering, “I’ll be home by six, and I’ll bring take out. Do you want Chinese again?”
I made a face and pulled away, shaking my head. He laughed and grabbed his coffee from behind me. “Alright, I call you and ask what you want when the time comes.”
With that he grabbed his jacket and was walking out the door. I smiled and waved at him, admiring how sure he seemed about this whole thing. Where I was stumbling around, trying to balance reading baby books, and blogs about pregnancy, he seemed to just have a natural affinity for the whole topic. It made me that much more settled though. Heaven forbid if he was in a panic about this whole thing. I didn’t need to see the mess that would come out of the two of us both panicking about this.
      (///)
A couple hours later in the day, I had decided that Gisa was probably more prepared for being a mother than I was, and I was having my baby in less than five months. She had insisted on me coming with her to look at canvases and paints for the painting she was going to do for the baby’s nursery.
Walking ahead of me, her arms laden with art supplies, she called over her shoulder, “Maybe you guys should do like a jungle theme? I could come in and paint trees and animals all over the room.”
Laughing at how invested she was in a room that hadn't even been decided on, I said, “I’ll add it to the list of ideas.”
She turned down another aisle, and I followed dutifully, my eyes taking in the glittering paint and colored paper. Gisa simply turned and dumped everything in the cart I had and then said, “See, I need to know what you guys are doing ahead of time so I can finish the painting.”
Shaking my head I picked up a particularly loud shade of yellow and looked it over before putting it back and sighing. My sister was in front of me in seconds her eyes observant as she asked, “Everything okay?”
I simply moved her to the side and and grabbed another bottle of paint to look at. My sister would not be ignored though. She grabbed something off the shelf and then sticking her face back in mine she asked in a sing song voice, “Oh Mare, what are you thinking?”
I laughed at the hideous ceramic mask she was holding up to her face. She had probably seen it on the shelf and had grabbed after it to go along with her silly voice. Rolling my eyes at her as she danced around my back to my other side, I teased, “You’re weird, you know that?”
She set the mask down and then stuck her tongue out before replying, “Oh please, and you aren't?”
“No, I just hide it better than you.” I laughed as I put the paint back and turned to look at the other side of the aisle. Gisa didn’t let my tone fool her though. My charades had never been good enough to get past my astute little sister. She stepped up next to me again and then asked softly, “What’s on your mind?”
I glanced at her out of the corner of my eye for a moment, but she was busy looking down at the paintbrushes that were for sale. Surely I could tell my little sister what was bothering me? Gisa had a wisdom beyond her years, she had been gifted that from a young age it seemed. I sighed softly again, wishing I had that kind of insight, before whispering, “have you ever thought your were so ill prepared for something that you were going to ruin everything?”
She raised a perfectly kept brow at my question before looking at me with a worried expression. “Mare, I dont think you’re going to be a bad mother. I think you’re going to be a great one actually.”
“As nice as it sounds coming from you, that’s not how I feel. I mean honestly Gisa, I’ve never really liked kids, you know that.” I said quickly as I started to walk along the shelves, looking at all the items there. Gisa trailed after me, like a little ray of sunshine that was slowly being covered with clouds. “But its different when it’s your kid, I see the way you get when no one’s looking. You’re always smiling down at your stomach and whispering to it. You love your baby already Mare, dont you?”
“Of course I do,” I admitted softly, and then shaking my head I continued, “But it’s not about loving it. I just... what if I can’t handle it? How the hell do you raise another human being without actually knowing what you’re doing half the time?”
Gisa shrugged and then said, “Do you honestly think mom and dad knew what they were doing half the time with us. I mean come on, they raised the five of us, and we didn’t turn out too bad.”
I chuckled, and then gave her a tiny smile as I said, “No, I guess we didn't.”
“And come on, your parenting books that you keep reading? Don’t deny that you read them, I’ve seen you. They have to at least say something about the fact that parenting is faking it till you make it ninety percent of the time.” She said with a roll of her eyes before grabbing our cart and pushing it along side me. She titled her head to the side as she leaned against the handle of the cart and reassured, “Besides, you’re not going to be perfect as a parent, no one is, but your baby’s going to love you no matter how many times you mess up.”
“Maybe you should write a parenting book.” I replied with a laugh as I slipped my arm through hers and walked next to her. Her words had certainly been reassuring. Maybe I had been going about this all wrong, maybe I should be focused less on the future and what might come, and more one what was going on right now. After all, if my baby kept growing as fast as it was, I was going to miss everything while I was busy worrying about it. Gisa shrugged at my comment, pulling me out of my thoughts, and then flicking her fiery hair over her shoulder, she said, “It’ll look into writing a series of self help books after I’m done become a major fashion designer.”
(///////)
I sank into the couch with my mug of hot chocolate, and then snuggled into Cal’s side, tucking my feet underneath me while I leaned my head on his shoulder. He was busy scrolling through a color catalogue and picking colors while I ate his leftover pasta. I sipped at my drink and then jumping to attention, I pointed to a gorgeous shade of baby blue and annouced, “That one, I want that one.”
“You can’t just pick shades of blue, Mare.” Cal replied with an annoyed huff, as he wrote down the name of the color anyway. I grinned at the fact that I was getting my way, and pressing a kiss to his cheek, I whispered, “Well, it’s a boy, so…”
“Why do you want a boy so badly?” Cal whispered, as if it were a joke, but underneath his teasing tone, I heard a hint of pain. Twisting my neck to glance up at him, I asked, “What’s wrong, why are you getting so defensive?”
“I’m not getting defensive.” He argued, but I could still hear it in his tone. Turning myself completely to face him side on, I replied, “Yes, you are, what’s going on Cal, talk to me.”
He slammed the computer closed before putting in on the table and standing up. My back straightened immediately and mug ace heated as he shouted, “I just don’t want a son, there’s nothing else to it!”
Gripping my mug tighter in my hands, I hissed, “No there is, or you wouldn’t be acting like this.”
His hands closed into fists at his side, before he threw his arms up and shouted, “You want to know why, fine. I don’t want a son, because I’m terrified that I’m going to be exactly like my father with him.”
I sat in stunned silence, confusion written all over my features. He sat down heavily next to me, and buried his head in his hands as he mummbled, “I just want my kid to be happy, to know that no matter what choices they make, I love them, and that it’s okay for them to not agree with me. But I’m so worried, because everyday I feel like I’m becoming more and more like my father.”
I set my mug down quietly on the table. Slowly I scooted closer to him, and wrapped my arms around his middle before setting my head on his shoulder. “Cal, why didn’t you tell me you felt this way?”
“You were worrying enough as it was, and I... and I figured this feeling would pass eventually.” He whispered as he slowly tried to pull away. I held him tighter though, and whispered, “You know, Gisa told me something really profound today.”
He snorted and then murmured, “She does that on a daily basis I feel like.”
“She’s wise beyond her years, thats for sure,” I replied, my lips pulling up in a solemn smile before I continued, “She told me that we’re not going to be perfect parents, no one can be, but no matter what happens, our baby will love us, and we will love it.”
Turning his head slightly to look at me, he said, “I doubt our kid will love me if I tell him how to live every aspect of his life.”
I set my chin on his shoulder and smiling I replied, “No one likes being told what to do, but I think we do what we think is right for the kid. It’ll be our job to take care of this baby and to help it so that it doesn't go through the same hardships that we went through.”
He turned his head slightly to press his forehead against my own as he whispered, “What would I ever do without you?”
“Probably nothing.” I replied with a light laugh. Inside of me, the baby somersaulted again, and I smiled even wider as I buried myself in Cal’s arms.

I hate how it was essentially two different stories, it makes me feel like the first five years were a waste. 94) Im just dissapointed because i REALLY wanted them to redeem themselves after the Cece/Charlie shit show and they had so many opportunities to make it great and they continued to drop the ball. I  like the characters and their personal storylines though, thats the thing ill miss, not the fake reveals and actual reveals that make no sense. Im all about their character growth and personally loved watching them grow on and off screen. Its just a shame the storyline couldnt do them justice. 95) Lets not let Marlene King write anymore shows, K? K.
