“requiem for methuselah” crazy ass episode for many reasons. Kirk is being fully insane, like I don’t actually think, even controlling for how quickly and easily and readily he seems to fall in love with anybody at the slightest encouragement, that he’d go that bonkers for that android woman he just met while everyone on the ship was this close to dying, but that’s neither here nor there, because in the background you’ve got an equally but much more subtly insane episode for Spock, who extremely uncharacteristically admits to experiencing an emotion (or nearly experiencing, whatever) and that emotion is ENVY of all things. And then spends the rest of the episode warning Kirk away from this new love interest (something that doesn’t usually happen, even when Kirk has very inadvisable love interests) and is, in the end, the person who accurately identifies that Rayna’s competing love for Kirk and Flint is ultimately what overwhelms and destroys her with the most killer line in maybe history???
And then to wrap it up we get an equally uncharacteristic sort of denouement scene (TOS loooves to cut an episode off right after the actual climax, leaving little time for falling action or character reflection, or to stick a sitcom-y button on the end where the gang all smiles and laughs at their misadventures and everything resets to zero, which is not a criticism, it’s just the style of that era of tv, honestly) where Kirk is literally miserable over Rayna’s death (again, kind of unusual for a lot of his love interests, he tends to be able to move on pretty quickly) and Spock goes to see him and he falls asleep right in front of Spock (also odd) and then when Bones comes in to give the final word on Flint, Spock waves him off from waking the Captain (tender) and Bones gives him that awful speech about how it’s sadder that Spock can’t even imagine the love Kirk felt for this random android woman than it is that Kirk lost her in the first place (debatable but also rude) and how his great tragedy is that he can’t love at all like they can and how all he wishes is that Kirk could forget about all of this and move on. AND THEN, to have Bones leave and Spock go over to Kirk and very gently, tenderly, reluctantly touch him and put his hand to his forehead and tell him to forget and HAVE THAT BE THE END OF THE EPISODE??? What am I supposed to do with that??

What a cool line.#hope it doesn’t become some sort of…thesis statement for you or something SPOCK#listen my number one beef with the way they write bones is that they just make him completely mischaracterize everything to suit the plot#this man is not an idiot he KNOWS Spock has emotions and just suppresses them#you’re going to tell me he’s been on that ship with Spock for years and thinks he feels no love whatsoever for anyone???#like even after what happened in the empath and in that episode where McCoy thought he was dying#he knows Spock loves people!!! COME ON#does he really just mean romantic love?? that’s so boring WRITE HIM BETTER#also they’re banking a lot on people remembering what the Vulcan mind meld is for that last bit#like I know it comes up a lot but…this is 1968 or whatever. They don’t have this shit on dvd to rewatch#you’re counting on really dedicated fan memory here or on people catching reruns#because otherwise it just looks like Spock waiting to be alone to touch Kirk as tenderly as possible and pray he forgets this woman#truly what’s going on#anyway I kind of hated this episode#like quite frankly there was too much going on#are androids people? would Kirk fall in love that hard that quickly and choose it over the safety of his crew?#why wasnt the illness ravaging the crew a bigger deal??#they didn’t even get into WHY flint was immortal#he was just a regular human and apparently the ONLY one who was granted immortality by the earth’s atmosphere#leaving aside the very creepy and very early born sexy yesterday trope going on throughout#but it was a really good Spock episode if you just….dont look at anything else….#the writer for this one also did Day of the Dove and Mirror Mirror which explains a LOT#two other episodes that are interesting for the character dynamics but really chaotic plot wise#anyway imagine saying to Spock’s face that he has no idea what love can drive a man to do#one has to laugh#tos#star trek#as always…. #(hopefully)#hi. i accidentally disappeared for a bit.#the burnout got to me ngl#haven't done a single creative thing all week#i did make it to the library though#my book for feb was i'm glad my mom died#i don't usually read nonfic but. i enjoyed it. i mean#as much as you can enjoy a book with that kind of subject matter#i read it in about a day. mostly in one sitting#i've gotten a head start on my march book & i'm genuinely almost regretting my pick#like. it's a compelling read & it's written in such a way that i want to know what happens but#it's fucking horrific. rarely do i need to put a book down & have a break but. i have done so several times w this book#i'm determined to finish it though. i need to know if there's like. a point to the horrors i'm experiencing or not#uhh i did also go dvd hunting#i found season 1 & season 2 of ATLA which were cool finds#i did find them at two different thrift stores which i thought was kinda funny#i'm probably gonna watch the new live action later but idk#n e way#rainyrambles

Saber was one of the final network releases I've located (after‚ i might say‚ a long long search for a reasonably priced#copy). so. the story of Saber of London. (deep breath). SoL is really a development of The Vise; for more on the needlessly complex history#of that series you can follow the appropriate tag above. in short The Vise was a crime anthology made specifically for US tv but produced#in the UK using brit actors writers and directors. the recurring character of Mark Saber was popular enough that the show eventually became#The Vise: Mark Saber; it then became Saber of London. some sources still regard this show as essentially being a later series of The Vise#(and it does still use the og theme tune over the end credits) but considering the title change and (crucially) the fact that SoL saw the#series move from ABC to NBC‚ im gonna consider this its own self contained show and number the episodes accordingly (ie. this is series 1 o#Saber of London not series 5 or 7 (depending on your counting) of The Vise). anyway now that's all out of the way.#there's little material difference between this series and the slightly earlier The Vise: Mark Saber episodes besides new titles and a#different introductory spiel from star Donald Gray. our hero is still a plucky private detective undertaking modest cases that the show's#budget will allow. this ep concerns art forgeries and an attempt to trap the criminals responsible‚ which means Saber must call on an art#expert to help authenticate the works. enter Honor! not yet a star‚ Honor did have a decade of acting experience behind her#which is maybe reflected in the fact that she's given an unusually meaty part for a woman in this series: she's neither victim nor love#interest (which are the usual roles) but a witty and intelligent source of assistance to the hero.#unlike The Vise episodes (which could take up to a decade to appear in the uk if they did at all) SoL appears to have had a fairly regular#slot from Granada about two years after the show's US premier. this ep would have been seen by uk audiences in 1959

Hate to say this as someone who started out on the internet writing x-men fanfiction but the Wolverine x Deadpool film was hollow and cynical and it just made me kinda sad and tired
It was like the film equivalent of someone jangling a set of keys in front of a baby like 'it's Blade! It's Gambit! Its Huge Jackedman! Bet ya like that don't ya??"
Like those characters used to have actual love behind them and now we just get this. It felt like the film was designed to be cut up and put on tiktok and i guess they succeeded at that.

ngl, doing both a Criterion Collection Challenge and an Anti-Criterion Collection Challenge at the same time on Letterboxd has convinced me to cancel my Criterion Channel subscription lol
#Basically you have to watch 52 movies that match that year's list of prompts over the year#For the Criterion Challenge they are all obvs Criterion Collection movies and for the Anti CC one they are movies not included in the CC#and at some point i realized i was having way more fun with the Anti CC one and rating almost all the Criterion watches as mid#and then i realized it's not so much the Criterion-worthy status that matters and makes it enjoyable#but more that i simply enjoy doing challenges and checking off checklists#And it's not like i haven't found some pretty good watches in the CC either... but you can find just as many elsewhere too#Maybe the thing i like best about the CC streaming service#is that they have lots of those behind the scenes bonus features and interviews that i miss from the DVD owning/renting days#Also it's CRAZY to me that some people have actually watched all 1600+ things in the Criterion Collection!!!#And then you read what they have to say about the experience and they're like 'yeah a lot of it was kinda filler / a waste of time tbh'#omggggg but you still did it anyway?#And dont even get me started on the people who try to physically own the entire collection on DVD......#movies#p

#hi im back and experimenting#ive had the gnarliest art block for the past like month and a half sorry! i made this to try to break out of it#for more context this happened on the night we got drunk and watched spiderman 2 (2004) and i looked up the soundtrack afterwards#and fell down a rabbithole bc switchfoot is on it#my dad used to listen to contemporary christian radio (probably still does) so i heard a lot of the more popular Christian hits of the 2000s#also christian stations will play what the fuck ever sometimes if a song can be read in even a little bit of a christian way#idk how christian the fray is (ig they did make 'you found me' but.) but ive heard 'how to save a life' on christian stations#and theres plenty of like. really lowkey christian bands. like switchfoot! and relient k!#most ppl alive in the 00s have probably heard 'dare you to move' just in nature. and christian stations loved that one#newsboys is on that spectrum somewhere i think. they did 'belly of the whale' for the Jonah a veggietales movie#and the dvd bonus features include the music video for that plus the video for 'a million pieces' which doesnt feel overtly christian to me#anyway! i hope everyone likes this vertical format! and the coloring. im still trying to adjust my style for that part#when csp says 'brightness' it does not nean 'color value' which is an issue for my new method#but yknow its a learning curve#furry#queer artist#smth smth#queer comics#trans artist

DID I PUT IN OTHER BOXES??#most of my belongings are in a stack of boxes under the stairs in my parents' house and i do not have the strength to rifle through them#the soundtrack is not really available on spotify and youtube so i was like thats fine ill just FIND MY PHYSICAL COPY OF THE CD#AND I'LL REMEMBER TO RIP IT THIS TIME BECAUSE APPARENTLY I DID NOT DO THAT WHEN I GOT IT#AHHHHHHHHHHHH#(like the music is not 100% unavailable online it's not lost media or anything it's fine)#i DO however. have my promare dvd#which i STUPIDLY ORDERED FROM AMERICA. FORGETTING THAT DVDS ARE REGION LOCKED. IM STUPID!!!!
