I think Imma start doing a "series" where every few days I post about a song that is dsmp-coded(as in it fits certain characters or relationships) + a few specific lyrics that fit said character or relationship

So here's the first one!

A Sadness Runs Through Him by The Hoosiers feels very much like a Brant song to me.

I could even see Fintan singing some of the lyrics, as if telling the story afterwards, about how Brant descended into the Neverseen and his talent.

Oo that's a unique connection we can draw between the character(s) and the song! I agree, there's a lot of elements that seem reminiscent of Brant

One of the very first lines I noticed was: "He looked in the wrong place for redemption," which seems to fit perfectly. Brant was a person scorned and shunned from society, so for a chance to earn himself a place in the world--or to make one, he turned to the Neverseen. He turned to Fintan and to the people like him, the people cast aside who were just as eager to make a place for themselves. He harbored a lot of anger, a lot of resentment and spite boiling beneath the surface as he tried to strike back and those who hurt him. But he'd gone to the wrong people, to the wrong side. He'd chosen the murders and the immoral destruction of the Neverseen, and they were unable to provide him with redemption. He couldn't make a place for himself--recreate one that had been taken.

The people he surrounded himself with brought him down in the end, drove him over the edge and fostered the hatred he'd developed, which led to him being places and doing things that killed him. If he'd reached out to someone else, his story would've ended very differently--Jolie's would have, too. In his efforts he killed the both of them.

Another line, "Impatient they start, fearful they end," seems to capture his mental state and how it shifted. Before Jolie's death, he was eager and vengeful; he wanted to remake elven society and to reclaim a place in it that he thought was rightfully his and had been taken from him. Not necessarily impatient and rushing, but he was determined and motivated to move quickly. He wanted change and he wanted it now, so he joined the Neverseen and he trained in his ability and he used it without hesitation.

But because of that, he killed Jolie. And it broke a part of him. He acts controlled, but he's got "a few cracks in the noggin" or however he phrased it in Everblaze. He's not okay. He's dangerous and unstable and unpredictable. And he's afraid of it being for nothing. He probably hates himself. I mean, he killed the person he loved most with the part of himself he loved most. He's not afraid of anything else, as he has nothing left to loose, nothing important to him anymore except his flames and his cause; and he has to go on because otherwise she died for nothing. That means if he fails, he killed her for no reason. Nothing was accomplished and on top of it all she'd be gone. So he's fighting, in a way, for her memory. What started as an eager, zealous determination is now a desperate, integral need because he has nothing else left. And the thought of that is terrifying.

As for Fintan pov, I think this could be one of them!! "He couldn't be saved / A sadness runs through him," like a perspective from after Brant's death and seeing just how little of him was left after Jolie transformed into a burnt little nugget. His mind was cracked after that, but I think given the support system he had (which is to say...none) it was only a matter of time until he succumbed to the cracks. He died before he did, but he was getting dangerously close. So from Fintan's perspective, Brant had become a lost cause, something he was loosing more and more every day because of the intense grief and guilt wracking his mind and splintering his consciousness each day. The sadness not only ran through him, it became him. He could hold it off with his cause, burning it away, but it always came back. It was all he had left, his sadness and his cause. There was no redemption and no way to save him at that point. He wouldn't even cooperate if someone tried to.

The song has multiple subtle relations to Brant's story and his arc. He's a truly fascinating character given how we see him only at the very end of his story, the tragedy of him and Jolie. it'd be enlightening to see things from his perspective when Jolie was alive and before he'd cracked.

Speaking of the songs I mentioned in my last ask .. I've been thinking about your Roadhouse Blues AU lately, and Professional by The Weeknd reminds me so much of it, especially of Dancing Days (given that the song is about The Weeknd’s relationship with an entertainer, it feels appropriate even lyrically). A channel named “streliz” on Youtube did a great version of it, that’s the one i’m thinking about.

I would also really like to know which song(s) you associate with Toji in that AU .. I always think of his entrance in Dancing Days when I listen to the intro in “I Wanna Be Yours” by Arctic Monkeys - the guitar with that scene feels otherworldly (I just went to re-read it and wow, I need to take a deep breath. Everything about it is so good hxbdvkcyuwdc).

oo, okay so I'm such a whore for slowed + reverb versions of songs - there's a slowed + reverb version of Hoosiers' "Up to No Good" and it just hits different. The Weeknd is also a completely different ball game when slowed down - quite a few time I'll be listening to a playlist and I'm just like "who dis?" and it's the Weeknd and I have an existential crisis because that isn't what he's supposed to sound like lol

Also, I always associate Toji with old rock and roll (I think the choice of Led Zeppelin makes it obvious enough) so yeah, I definitely connect the Arctic Monkeys with Toji. The other song I always always associate with Toji, is "Bad Company" by Bad Company (lol, very creative title)

‘A Sadness Runs Through Him’ is a song performed by The Hoosiers. Like my analysis of ‘Your Sister was right’, ‘Let it burn’ and ‘Call them brothers’, this will be a lyric by lyric basis. Also like the previous analysis, this will implement me going ‘also imagine a scene…’, because I have ~style~

But here was a man mourning tomorrow Wilbur became insane because he was mourning a loss of what could have been, and began to distrust everyone. He drank, but finally drowned in his sorrow God, imagine a scene in an animatic where Wilbur is drinking something (probably alcohol), and then it zooms in on the drink and wilbur is floating in it, tears floating up towards the top of that drink Oh, he could not break surface tension Surface tension is the tendency of liquid surfaces to shrink into the minimum surface area possible. Basically - water breaks when people jump into it because the surface tension isnt strong enough to contain that, but some bugs can walk on water because the surface tension is strong enough to stop them from entering the water. Now, remember that last scene, of Wilbur crying in the alcohol/drink? imagine him trying to get out of the drink but not able to. He looked in the wrong place for redemption Blowing! Up! Manburg! Wont! Redem! You! In! The! Eyes! Of! Your! People! Dickhead! - in all seriousness, Wilbur looked to regain his people, his country, in the wrong place with people who would only enable him. Don't look at me with those eyes Tommy trying to plead with Wilbur, to get him to stop before he messes up big time, only to be ignored is painful and im going to remind you of Dream ‘stepping in’ now. I tried to unheave the ties Turn back the time that drew him Tommy wanting Wilbur back to normal, telling Tubbo not to give up hope for Wilbur but not to trust him? owch But he couldn't be saved Yo Wilbur is kind of the villain now.  A sadness runs through him, through him Wilbur is sad from losing his country, but he’s not coping well is he? Time and again, boys are raised to be men Tubbo joined the war just as much as Tommy did. Tubbo was, and still is, just a teenager. He was raised and used for war! He would have PTSD! Impatient they start, fearful at the end Could you imagine, the fear from Tubbo’s end, as he was shot by Techno? The betrayal, the hurt? But here was a man mourning tomorrow Who drank, but finally drowned in his sorrow Schlatt canonically is a drunkard, who used Tubbo and Quackity and Fundy for his own means. If he’s an angry drunk or a sad drunk is really up to you tho. Oh, he could not break surface tension Fundy betraying Wilbur and disowning him pog? He looked in the wrong place for redemption Fundy joining Schlatt’s side, trying to convince himself that Schlatt is good, but also spying on Schlatt RIGHT AFTER HE SAW WHAT HAPPENED TO TUBBO WHEN TUBBO WAS CAUGHT is a smooth brained move i must say. Don't look at me with those eyes Imagine the betrayal that Nikki would have felt after Fundy burnt her flag, the fight that could have ensued. I tried to unheave the ties Turn back the time that drew him Fundy desperately trying to turn Manburg back into L’Manburg, to make Schlatt the ruler that Fundy wished he could be But he couldn't be saved Schlatt isn’t able to be saved. He’s also the villain A sadness runs through him, through him Bro fundy just wants his home and family back man this hurts Don't look Don't look Don't, don't okay, so these lines are sorta just added in just before the chorus, so lets talk about what could go in the instrumental. Just,,, Wilbur getting the TNT, Tommy and Tubbo meeting (tommy telling tubbo about the tnt), Schlatt looks at Tubbo and thinking he’s sus, Nikki watching the flag burn. SO MANY OPORTUNITES Don't look at me with those eyes Tommy pleading with Wilbur not to set off the bombs, Quackity trying to help. I tried to unheave the ties Tommy locking him and Quackity in with Wilbur, not letting him explode the bombs without killing them all Turn back the time that drew him A flash, and normal Wilbur - wilbur pre revolution, pre power hungry, is back for a second But he couldn't be saved A flash to revolutionary Wilbur No, he couldn't be saved A flash to president Wilbur A sadness runs through him A flash to the election results A sadness runs through him A flash to running with Tommy A sadness runs through him A flash to meeting with Techno A sadness runs through him A flash to getting the TNT A sadness runs through him A flash to Wilbur leaving the room with Quackity Sadness runs through Philza, waiting in the dining room, three empty plates resting around where he sits, as he gazes out the window.

Your black dress flattered you as you walked with Luz outside. The June air a bit humid but came with a nice breeze. The black dress stopping at your knees and showing a bit of skin on your black was absolutely gorgeous and guess who picked it out? The man himself, George Luz. It was an anniversary gift he wanted to give you today but couldn’t keep a secret and gave it to you last night. You made him breakfast in bed this morning and he showered you in kisses, thanking you for an incredible 1 year. He wondered every day how you could possibly put up with him, he was hyper and despite keeping up a smile most times during the war and entertaining everybody, you were the few that saw the dark side of him. You were snapped back to reality and the present as George grabbed your hand and kissed it. He stepped into the fancy nightclub “The Lounge”

You assured Luz you didn’t need anything fancy but he just smiled and shook his head and returned to spending the next two and a half hours trying to get a spot on the list there.

He walked with you over to a booth and slid in with him “It’s been a while since I haven’t been in a military used bar” you smiled at him and flipped through the menu, full of drinks and small little snacks. “Ooh George! They have a mini cheese platter, let’s get that”

He laughed and tried to get a waiter over to your table. “Hi! We’re gonna take a rum runner, a sea breeze, and the mini cheese platter. Thanks”

When the waiter walked away, Luz turned to you grinning as large as the Cheshire Cat and winked at you “What??” You laughed

He opened his mouth like an O “it’s our song!” The upbeat, jazzy song started and you grinned like him. It was in fact, your song with him. During the war, it was the first song you danced with him and he deemed it “your song” Sometimes, he would play it just to see you smile at him. Sometimes, he made up his own lyrics half because it was fun and half because you made up lyrics to sing with him too.

“Dance with me!” He pleaded, and of course, you could never say no. Especially not to dancing with Luz. You took his hand and he led you to the center floor. He twirled you and pulled you all different ways, dancing with you. The song continued on and George really had never been happier. You slowed down and hugged him, he hugged back and kissed your temple. As more fast songs came on, George certainly made a scene by proving he was a damn well dancer. You were laughing so much while he was spinning you or moving, you didn’t realize your drinks were already on the table. “Geor- George! The drinks.!”

“I thought those could wait! We’re dancing, baby” you giggled “Yes but I’m thirsty, they’ll play more songs, I swear”

He huffed but grinned at the same time and slid into the same side as you in the booth, you fed him a piece of cheese as he drank his cocktail. George was quite young and in love with you but he also proved that men didn’t need to show they were men by grilling food and drinking scotch on the rocks. Sometimes after work, he wanted to order food and you made him a martini. He had no shame and wasn’t embarrassed of anything.

He kissed you, making you smile into the kiss which left butterflies in his stomach. “I love you Mrs Luz” oh. yeah. it wasn’t your one year dating anniversary. it was one year of being Mrs George Luz,and him being the man who got to get you. He felt like he won the lottery. “I love you Mr Luz. Now come dance with me!” You bumped him to make room so you could leave the booth and he slid out ever so eager.

“Yes ma’am! Hey, Y/N?”

“Yes?”

“Do you think I could be a dancer for real though? I had this thought in a dream and I woke up panting, yeah that one on Tuesday night. But now that I’m thinking about it.. and with my gold moves...” he winked at you and probably had the biggest smile on his face.

“Of course a strip joint would take you as a dancer!” You snugged your face into his chest as a slow song came on and you wrapped your arms around him and gently swayed.

He gasped “Oh! How rude! I will have you know, i am much more classy than a strip joint” when he said that, he had the funniest, disgusted look on his face and you pulled back to view his whole face. “Tell that to the shots you downed last night and then got out the cake I made and stuffed your face with it” you kissed his cheek “Besides, why would my man be working in a strip joint?”

He hummed into you hair “I’m all yours, baby. Don’t worry”

“All yours, too”

You slowly swayed with George to the music, quite different than previously before with him twirling you. “And that’s why darling, it’s incredible that someone so unfortunately thins I’m unforgettable too” He softly sang and twirled you out and in but not grand like before, this time is was softer. Not that you were complaining. When you were spun back in, you kissed him hard and sweetly, what he deserved.

“Unforgettable in every way and forever more. That’s how you’ll stay” you softly sang along the lyrics with Luz and he beamed, like a light that you knew his favorite song. But of course you did, you weren’t only his wife, his best friend, but you had been his dancing partner since you first met him in 1942. And that’s how you would stay forever more.

me making my own playlist after being inspired by some other playlists? it’s more likely than you think. i have three categories that each song falls under. it’s either ( a ) a song that i actually think fit the character/relationship; ( b ) a single lyric spoke to me so i put it in the list anyway; and ( c ) i try making an au to justify putting it in the list because i know canon isn’t going to like it.

so, uh!! me attempting to justify my song choices under the cut!

notes: in a world where gabriel regrets. he’s not a good person, we know this. thus, when all is said and done, he regrets. it doesn’t absolve him of any of the things that he’s done, but at least he’s beginning somewhere.

oh, and i found love where it wasn't supposed to be / right in front of me, talk some sense to me / and i found love where it wasn't supposed to be / right in front of me, talk some sense to me

notes: i think this is as literal as it could be. you can also argue that it can be interchangeable between gabriel and nathalie because hey, nathalie falling in love with her boss who is also married is the definition of ‘i found love where it wasn't supposed to be’  which might make more sense given that we have canon confirmation that nathalie is in love with gabriel.

3. you’re somebody else - flora cash (gabriel > nathalie)

you were the better part / of every bit of beating heart that i had / whatever i had / i finally sat alone / pitch black flesh and bone / couldn't believe that you were gone

notes: nathalie is gabriel’s rock. if and when she leaves him (in any way, whether through getting fed up or ending the same as emilie), we know he’s going to feel it.

She brought her "Reputation Stadium Tour" to Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday, giving fierce new life to songs that were uncompromising to begin with. She also attracted a record-sized concert audience for the 10-year-old venue.

The crowd of 55,729 means Swift tops previous shows presented by Kenny Chesney, U2 and One Direction.

She paused between songs Saturday to recall playing the 2008 Future Farmers of America Convention at the stadium. That's essentially a corporate gig — a big corporate gig — that made her think about possibly playing the cavernous room as part of her own tour someday.

"Completely unattainable," was her thought at the time.

Fast-forward to 2018: Swift has maintained a massive fan base and made a studio album, "Reputation," packed with with stadium-sized statements.

When the screen was put together for the song "Don't Blame Me," it updated the gritty visuals of 1927 film "Metropolis." In addition to actual girders, high-definition video representations of girders turned the stage into an industrial backdrop for Swift's intense plea of, "I'd beg you on my knees to stay." More eye-candy moments: Jumbo inflatable snakes on the primary stage and two satellite stages to play with Swift's villain/victim dichotomy plus a functioning(!) palace fountain that arced water onstage during "Call It What You Want."

The tender aspect of the "Reputation Stadium Tour" was found in a two-song segment featuring Swift at a piano. The tunes "Long Live" and "New Year's Day" celebrate enduring friendships and sidestep complicated romantic entanglements. Swift said she considers her fans to be long-running friends, and she complimented the night's examples of cosplay based on her lyrics. What kind of impact has 1 had on your life?  I think her songs are such a variety like you’ve got great party ones you can sing along to but then some deeper ones about being positive and loving yourself.
