Gladiator II is running on the well deserved hype Gladiator still has, and Ridley Scotts’s reputation, but the first one is a far better film with far better actors. There’s a reason that one won the Oscar for best picture, and none of the principal actors in the second one (except for Denzel Washington) could carry it like Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix did.

Agree 100%! I was thinking that this is the same director that gave us Blade Runner, Thelma & Louise, and Alien. Ridley has fumbled and cheapened his career so badly I am still surprised the studio gave him a big budget for this movie.
