You find your comb on your vanity and brush through your hair after fixing your part that got messy during the day. You put your hair into a cute half up, half down style, bringing the front two strands of your hair loose so they can frame your face.

You grab your phone and look at the time. The clock says 7:39pm. You turn off your music and look around your room. The floor is covered in clothes.

"I clean it up when I get home" you think to yourself.

When you finish walking down the stairs, mahito is already way ahead of you, opening a mini fridge. He kneels down to peer in. "So we have vodka, rum, some leftover champagne and a bottle of wine. The wine's mostly used for cooking but I'm sure the guys won't mind if a glass goes missing."

This one i posted a storyboard for actually its An Aliens I Love You by Utsu-P.

I gave young Rin a sakura motif with her dress because of miku and rin meeting under a sakura tree, teen miku has a pink ribbion and hairclip to continue this. both rins bow and mikus outfit get darker outfits overtime to sybolize the song getting darker. I also gave adult rin the future rin hair. Miku's "alien" form is more or less how its described in the song tho i was lazy and didn't draw the 4 arms in the refs.

also Lily is Rins mom in this yup there she is indeed.

Bdubs would mostly visit a lot because Etho is there a lot - despite Etho always teasing him about his lovely pink mer tail. Bdubs insists that it's salmon-colored, to which Etho always points out that salmon aren't actually that color.

Beef wouldn't hesitate to get himself into the water, get a crash course on being a mer from his good friend Etho, and then insist that he taught him everything he knows :P

Cub would visit the mer palace frequently, too - he'd have fun as a mer. His tail is bright blue with highlights of white.

Doc's cybernetics may be waterproof, but that doesn't mean he necessarily likes to spend a lot of time in the water. It doesn't help that his merform is a bit unconventional. a ‘Leaf Sheep' sea slug to be exact.

False's tail one one of a sword fish, but she doesn't spend much time with the mers, she's busy being the queen of hearts and body parts. But once a Conduit was added, she's happy to pop by as a human.

Gem also doesn't really spend much time with the mers. She's visited once or twice; under Etho's spell her tail is very pretty and spotted, and her antlers turn into coral! But being stuck in the water for days with no legs is a little too disconcerting for her.

Jevin gets to be an octopus whenever he drops by! This is generally very conducive to him being a menace.

Joe is happy to stop by every now and again. Not to often but you know being a fish is quite conducive to building underwater. His tail is a pinstriped zebra fish.

Keralis has to stop by to see xB. All the time. His mer form is based on a very specific type of goldfish.

Pearl hit it off with a number of the mers when she was part of the Boatem crew, so she's happy to drop in whenever she needs a break. Maybe her mer form is based on a bogue - its scientific name is Boops boops :)

Ren very much prefers to keep his paws dry, but he's joined them a few times, as a dogfish shark of course

Tango doesn't like being a fish. He hasn't had a very good experience with it. Impulse and Zed did manage to peer pressure him into hanging out at the mer palace one time though. Never again, he tells them.

Cleo's mer form is a glass fish, meaning her spine is on full display within the tail. She's gone to the Mer hang out a few times but prefers to not get wet so she stays on land.

Social Patterns

All addisons do (for the most part) is advertise including themselves. When socializing they often act like they are doing a pitch, highlighting why they would be a good friend, lover, general partner and other like things. This often comes off as odd to non-addisons

Addisons with bad pitches tend to be shunned amongst addisons but do better with non-ads

They are usually highly social to the point that it can be detrimental. They thrive off of networking and can become intense without it. It will not kill the ad but it causes them to be more desperate in their work lives which leads to worse sales. Bad sales will get them deactivated

Addisons, while important for Cyber World function, are not considered high-tier citizens, like a more menial working class as depicted below. Because of this a lot of them try to seem very agreeable in public so as not to cause a rift. They are likely to not be defended if a problem arises as it is out of their function to cause such.

Naturally anxious and excitable. Their emotions are easy to read one way or another but they try to hide them both as personal protection and to seem professional. For this reason, ads tend to seem shallow when it comes to conflict

Biology

Addisons like to eat but don’t need to. They technically don’t need to do anything but wash and remain presentable as most of their organs are simply there for show. Very organs actually serve a purpose with a small exception that varies from ad to ad. The only consistent organs are the heart(shaped object), brain, and the lungs

Most other organs that are functional relate to their job in some way or another. Body types are editable, as most start as the default addison body (top heavy but lean, same angular face, etc…) but then they have the options to reorder mass for different body types. Their bodies can naturally change but the data tends to stay in the same format unless drastic shifts in numbers happen

Their colors can vary, despite the main four (orange, blue, yellow, and pink) being the most common. Despite being weird, they are not shunned as long as they are vibrant and correctly tinted. The off colors can be changed for a hefty fee but sometimes the novelty helps them sell. This can also get them unwanted attention from certain investors…

Addisons don’t have any set biological sex/gender difference, as mentioned above they can modify their physical form as they see fit. They don’t have a need for sex organs either but if they want, they can modify themselves to have them. 

Addisons don’t have children but some ads can manifest as childish in appearance depending on the product they sell. These ads often grow with their demographics and modify themselves to “age” as their demographic does (think of an ad meant to sell baby products moving up to toys then teen stuff). They are rarer but tend to be the most popular

Addisons can’t die unless they are deactivated and whipped or injured severely. This only happens when they perform extremely poorly (the cyberworld literally deletes them) or they are severely outdated/defective.

Personality and Other Stuff

Addison's personalities, unlike hobbies which are based on purpose, are determined by their colors. Warmer colors tend to be more intense or more energetic while cooler colors are more level-headed or passive. Brighter tones tend to be more friendly, but overbearing to a degree while darker tones tend to be a bit more reserved but methodical.

Because of this, you are more likely to find addisons of the same tones with each other, as they get along better. Despite this addisons with a diverse shade wheel will tend to last in the long term

They really don’t get a lot of socially normal things to do, hence the object eating or literally buying their silence. Sorta literal as a species if you can’t tell but somehow they make it work.

Overall they really like popups and treat them like dogs/weird family pet things. Kinda don’t like viros but the defect addisons like how defensive they can be for them if treated right.

They do not like ambyu-lances or mauses but hate mauses less than Swatchlings do

Tell me about planes if you want

Oh I certainly will!!! It's taken me a while to answer this between working, not having access to the laptop with these pictures, slow wifi causing the upload process to be incredibly slow, and trying not to get too carried away with descriptions and blabbing forever about aircraft so I hope you can forgive me for taking longer than I'd like to respond. I was really excited to get this ask hehe, it's my life's biggest passion!

I could go on forever and ever about planes so I'll just show you some pictures of planes my sister and I have taken on vacation with some descriptions (and a special picture at the end for you!) ❤️

Here's an 80-year-old Beech 18 doing something it's not supposed to- aerobatics! This specific aircraft was used as a navigational trainer during WWII, now it's doing gentle aerobatics at airshows around the US. The plane is named "Magic by Moonlight" but is also called "Miss Ellie" and the nose are features a pinup elephant on a moon.

Because of this, Matt Younkin (the owner and pilot of this plane) likes to do part of his routine to the music from the 1941 Dumbo, including making the aircraft "dance" to "Pink Elephants on Parade" and it's really fun to watch. He also does a fantastic night airshow routine where he takes off with all of his lights on but then turns his lights off shortly after takeoff so that you can't see him. A few minutes later in the pitch dark you can hear the Beech 18 diving in towards the crowd as he suddenly turns on the lights and the overture from Phantom Of The Opera begins blaring at the same time. It's such a cool thing to see

A fantastic picture of the US Navy Blue Angels in their F/A-18 Hornets as they pass overhead. One of my favorite pictures my sister has taken! When doing formation flying the Blue Angels fly with their wingtips just 18 inches apart from each other's jet

The Polaris Team passing overhead with a MiG-29 leading two Alpha Jets and two L-39s. It was amazing seeing the MiG-29 considering there are only two airworthy in the US and it's one of my favorite planes, but also a little off feeling considering Ukraine is fighting for their lives against Russia with this same kind of aircraft

Here's a more visible shockwave manifesting as vapor on this EA-18G Growler. Though the Growler looks exactly like the Super Hornet (there are actual minor differences in appearance), the Growler is meant for electronic warfare (EA=Electronic Attack) while the Super Hornet is meant for fighting and attacking (F/A=Fighter/Attacker). The Growler can certainly still defend itself in a dogfight if it needed to though.

These are both newer versions of the F/A-18 Hornet, which is the oldest of the three. The Hornet is slightly smaller with a few noticeable differences in appearance. Fun fact about the jet pictured above: it's from the same squadron that flew the cast of Top Gun: Maverick and I actually got to see one buzzing around the town when I was in Oak Harbor, WA a few years ago!

Here's a cool picture of an F-35A Lightning II flying through pyro smoke with the afterburner lit and vapor trails coming off the wingtips. The pilot of this jet is also a woman! The F-35 family gets its name from the P-38 Lighting, a WWII fighter aircraft.

Here's the weapons bay to the F-35A Lightning II. Since it's a stealth aircraft, it stores its weapons internally to reduce their RCS (radar cross section) and appear smaller on radar. The diamond looking object under the nose there is its targeting system for both air and ground targets. All F-35s have the capability of allowing the pilot to see through the aircraft! There are multiple cameras around the jet that the pilot can use with their helmet to see all around the aircraft

The F-35C Lightning II at sunset with full afterburner and wingtip vapors. The C model of the F-35 is for the Navy, the B is for the Marines, and the A is for the Air Force. Only the B and C models are capable of vertical takeoffs and landings and hovering. If you compare the C model here to the A model above, you can see that the C model has a longer wingspan and lines on the wings towards the wingtips that can fold up for more storage space on aircraft carriers! Fun fact about this pilot: His callsign is "Jiggly"

The F-22 Raptor with vapor forming around it as it pulls hard away from the crowd. The canopy has a golden tint because of a special layer of radar absorbing material to help reduce its RCS. The Raptor is a stealth fighter and arguably/potentially the most capable and deadly fighter aircraft in the world, only owned by the US and never exported for allied countries to use. It has vectoring thrust which means that both engine nozzles can move up and down to point the exhaust in different directions and allow the aircraft to maneuver better as the thrust moves with the control inputs of the pilot.

The Raptor is so maneuverable that it isn't allowed to demonstrate its full capabilities at airshows and even with allied forces when doing military exercises with them! It can turn on a dime, fall like a leaf, slide backwards onto its tail in the air, and do a backflip (these aren't the actual terms but they're great descriptions lol). It's fun to watch it fall like a leaf because not only is it memorizing to watch a jet maneuver like that because it's just insane, but the horizontal stabilizers move a lot so it looks like the Raptor is flapping its tail hehe.

Here's a good video on the maneuvers this jet can pull off and here too. This guy has fantastic camera stability so it looks like a video game and has insane quality! It's just truly amazing what this aircraft can do, and I got a little carried away talking about it because it's my favorite modern fighter jet

The USAF Heritage Flight is performed at nearly every US airshow and features one or more modern USAF fighter or attack aircraft with one or more warbirds (vintage aircraft that are retired from military service) from different eras. This flight features an F-16 Fighting Falcon/Viper (more commonly called the Viper) painted like a black snake/viper with two WWII fighter aircraft. The lead plane (green) is the P-38 Lighting, and off to its left is the P-51 Mustang.

The P-51 is arguably the most famous warbird ever, and was very impactful during WWII. Hermann Göring, Commander of the Luftwaffe during WWII, saw P-51s escorting bombers over Berlin and allegedly said "When I saw Mustangs over Berlin, I knew the jig was up." This P-51 is painted after Capt. William T. Whisner's P-51D "Moonbeam McSwine" and has a unique blue nose and tail of the 352nd Fighter Group. And this was my first time getting to see a P-38 fly so I was ecstatic to see it! This specific one is painted like Robin Olds' P-38 during WWII, named "Scat III" and he has named all of the aircraft he flew throughout WWII and Vietnam different numberings of "Scat"

The USN has their own version of a heritage flight called the Navy Legacy Flight. Here an F4U-4 Corsair named "Korean War Hero" (more on that later!) leads an F-35C off to its left, an EA-18G off to its right, and an AD-5W(EA-1E) Skyraider behind it. This version of the Skyraider is an electronic warfare aircraft with three seats compared to the typical ground attack model that only had one seat

A front view of another Legacy Flight with a T-28 Trojan in the lead, two EA-18Gs on the sides, and an FG-1D Corsair in the back. All of them, except for the Corsair, have their tail hooks down. This view provides a great look at the unique wings on the Corsair, which earned the nickname "Bent-Wing Bird" due to its inverted gull wings

(Excuse the poor quality of this picture it was taken years ago on a shitty phone) This here is a B-29 Superfortress bomber named "Bockscar" and is one of the most historic aircraft I have had the pleasure (or perhaps displeasure in this case) of getting to see. On August 9th of 1945, this exact aircraft dropped an atomic bomb named "Fat Man" on the Japanese city of Nagasaki. I was in awe of getting to see such a historically important aircraft, but also saddened by the mission it took a part of

This here is a B-29 named "Doc" after being a part of a squadron called the "Seven Dwarfs" that were used on non-combat missions to test radio systems. There are currently only two airworthy B-29s in the world, and I have been fortunate enough to see both of them flying in formation!

This is a B-17 Flying Fortress, one of the most well known bombers of WWII. This one is named "Aluminum Overcast" and is one of roughly 7 that are still flyable. The B-17 got the name "Flying Fortress" due to the 13 machine guns it has mounted around the aircraft. Here "Aluminum Overcast" has is bomb bays open for a mock bombing run. I have been inside of but have not flown on "Aluminum Overcast" :]

Here is another famous aircraft, though not as well known, that I have been incredibly fortunate to see. This plane is a C-47 named "That's All, Brother" and is the very plane that lead the D-Day airborne invasion. I got to see the progress of the restoration project of the aircraft up to its airworthiness in 2018 so getting to see it fly again was pretty amazing. You can actually purchase a flight on this aircraft, like many other warbirds, and tell people you rode on the plane that led the D-Day invasion!

Fun fact: This aircraft was restored with such incredible accuracy that if you get up close to it you will see that the D-Day stripes painted on it are sloppy and uneven, as they would have been back in 1943 as they were painted on in a rush before the invasion. It's also missing the open quotation on the nose art on the left side of the aircraft (seen here) as evident from pictures back in WWII

The lighting isn't the best in this one, but this group is called Tora! Tora! Tora! and they reenact the attack on Pearl Harbor. Multiple aircraft fly around low to the ground and close to the crowd as they pretend to do strafing runs, dive bomb attacks, and torpedo attacks. An air raid siren blares while near constant explosions are going off on the ground and an American aircraft chases one of the Japanese planes around.

Fun Fact: Though this group consists of three different Japanese aircraft types, the A6M Zero (fighter), the B5N Kate (torpedo bomber), and the D3A Val (dive bomber), all of these aircraft are actually American T-6 Texans and BT-13 Valiants that are highly modified to look like Japanese aircraft. Only 5 Zeroes are currently airworthy, with only two being original and the rest are replicas. There are currently no Vals or Kates airworthy

This is a special and rare flight of aircraft called "Flight Of The Cats" which consist of four Grumman aircraft. The aircraft manufacturing company Grumman is known for naming many of their aircraft after big cats back in the day, hence the name of this formation flight. The formation flight used to be performed at airshows in the past with an F-14 Tomcat, but since none are left flying in the US it is now performed with Grumman's WWII and Korean War fighter aircraft.

The F7F Tigercat leads an F8F Bearcat (off its left wing), an F6F Hellcat (off its right wing), and an F4F Wildcat brings up the rear. Both the F7F and F8F arrived too late to see combat in WWII so they were used elsewhere. The F7F was used for a short time as a night fighter in the Korean War, and the F8F never saw combat in the US but instead was imported to France where they first saw combat. The F7F above is named "Here Kitty, Kitty!"

The F4F and F6F both served in WWII and were some of the most impactful aircraft of the war in the Pacific. The Hellcat boasts an impressive 19:1 kill ratio, one of the highest of any aircraft of WWII. The Hellcat above served two tours in WWII, but it is unknown if it saw combat. It has the name "Death N' Destruction"

The F4F was one of the first true USN fighters of WWII and held its own until the more advanced F6F and F4U Corsair arrived. The Wildcat above was ditched in Lake Michigan during WWII during a training mission before being restored into its current airworthy state. This F4F is painted in early war colors, hence the "Meatball" on the insignia, and is painted after Edward "Butch" O'Hare's Wildcat. Chicago's O'Hare Airport is named after him, and you can find an F4F painted like the one above on display in Terminal 2 in honor him.

Fun Fact: The F6F, F7F, and F8F all have the same type of engine (it's also the same engine the Corsair has). And though these aircraft have radial engines with a prop and not jet engines, they are still incredibly loud! Radial engines also have a distinct sound compared to an inline engine. Radial engines have more of a growl to them and sound thunderous in the air and they sound like they're chugging on the ground, while an inline sounds more high pitched and smooth. I think out of all the cats above, the F7F sounds the best due to it being a twin-engined aircraft

And here it is, my favorite plane of all time-the F4U Corsair. The Corsair is a powerhouse of an aircraft, and was one of the most lethal aircraft during WWII. It was the first single-engine US plane to reach over 400 mph flying level thanks to it having the largest engine and prop on a single-engine aircraft at the time. Later models of the Corsair has a top speed of 470mph, which is faster than the modern A-10 Thunderbolt II, and could dive up to 550 mph. It had an 11:1 kill ratio and served not only in WWII but also in the Korean War and performed multiple roles from ground attack to night fighting. It also served multiple allied countries during WWII and after, still even seeing combat in different wars up through the 1960s.

This specific Corsair is an F4U-4 named "Korean War Hero" and like the name suggests it served in the Korean War and is an actual combat veteran. "Korean War Hero" is my favorite Corsair, having watched it at airshows since I was a little kid up until now where I've gotten to see it yearly since 2017 (not 2020 though). Fun fact: After finding a picture of my younger self next to "Korean War Hero" at an airshow many years ago, I decided to take my senior pictures in front of it :]

The Corsair has a unique design to it, which is its inverted gull wings. The wings are bent to allow for shorter landing gear while still providing clearance for the massive 13ft 2in propeller diameter. Like I mentioned before, this earned it the nickname "Bent-Wing Bird" and gave it an unforgettable silhouette/outline. The Corsair also had the nicknames of "U-Bird" for the wing shape, "Angel of Okinawa" for the important role it played in The Battle of Okinawa, and "The Hog" for its size.

The most famous nickname of the Corsair though is a nickname the Japanese gave to it during WWII, "Whistling Death." It got this nickname because of the loud whistling noise it made as it dived down to attack. The noise is made by wind rushing at high speeds through the multi-purpose air cooling slots located at the leading edge of the inboard part of the wings

Here's an FG-1D Corsair with its wings folded up. US Naval and Marine aircraft typically have the ability to fold their wigs or wingtips closer to the fuselage to allow for more space on aircraft carriers. The Corsair's wings happen to fold upwards. And now you may be wondering (and I have no clue if you are, I doubt anyone is even reading this at this point I've blabbed on for too long lol) "Pine, why does this Corsair have different numbers and letters in front of it?" Well, that's because this Corsair was built by a different company!

The F4U Corsair was originally built by Vought, while the FG-1A & FG-1D Corsair was built by Goodyear, and even a third company, Brewster, made the aircraft and called it the F3A-1 & F3A-D Corsair. Due to the high demand of more Corsair production, Vought licensed Brewster and Goodyear to also make Corsairs, hence why they have different numbers in front of them despite them being the same kind of aircraft as Vought made. Though Vought continued to make multiple variations of the Corsair, Brewster and Goodyear only made models based off of Vought's F4U-1 Corsair.

Every single aircraft up to our current times have extra numbers and letters to mark what variation they are, I have just left those out for every aircraft above, besides the Corsair, to make it potentially less confusing. Like the P-51 I have on here is technically a P-51D but again, I don't want to make things more complicated. Every military aircraft has a letter before their model number to specify what type it is, like an F-22 is a Fighter (they used P for pursuit back in WWII and some later model aircraft during the 50s before changing it to F for fighter), B is for bomber, A is for attack, H is for helicopter, and you can guess the rest from there. Sometimes there's more than one, like the F/A-18 Hornet. And every aircraft has their variation letter after their model number, like the P-51D.

So, why did WWII Naval/Marine aircraft have more numbers and letters to their name compared to USAAC/USAAF aircraft at the time and modern military aircraft? During WWII, the Navy just decided to make it more confusing. The Navy was using "P" for Patrol back then, so they couldn't use "Pursuit" like the USAAC/USAAF was using for their fighter aircraft. So, they decided to go with "F" for Fighter. Then there was a model number after it, and after that was the aircraft's manufacturing identification letter. Finally at the end, there would be a letter and potentially another number to specify what variation it was.

For example with an F4U-4 Corsair it would be read as F=Fighter, 4=The model, U=Vought, and 4= what variation it was. So it's a "Fighter model 4, made by Vought, variant number 4." The Navy had a weird thing too with not having some aircraft manufacturers' identification letter match their starting letter, like "U" stands for Vought. Some aircraft manufacturers even used the same identification letter.

I love aviation for its history, so getting to walk around aircraft that have had significant roles in history alongside some that are actual combat veterans that have been restored and still fly today leave me in awe.

The Critique of Manners Part VI

~Or~

An Attempt at an Objective Review of Emma (2009)... VOLUME TWO

Haha, bitches you didn't think I could wait a whole week did you? Nah, not me. and guys, I added to it--all total, it's 9,023 words now. this half of the review is 5,214. HOW DO I HAVE SO MANY WORDS FOR THIS THING? I'm not gonna split it into a third part, because I don't need to for picture limit purposes, but buckle in.

Here it is, the stunning conclusion to my Emma Adaptation Review series (but this isn't really the end because I plan on doing some rankings later). In this half of my review of BBC'S Emma (2009) we'll discuss Costumes and all the very specific things that I love about this version, and some things I don't like, and some things I'm here to defend.

Let's dive in!

Costumes

Generally I liked these costumes pretty well. They were designed and facilitated by Rosalind Ebbutt, also known for her work on PBS’s Victoria and Vanity Fair (1998). And her work is, as her filmography would suggest, by turns, great and so-so.

These costumes are definitely in line with the adaptation’s general aesthetic: warm pinks and golds, with mints emeralds and blues to cool it off a little, are the order of the day. I really appreciate that every character has a definite color palette. The tradeoff is that this adaptation is the WORST EVER offender for the Jane Fairfax Blue™ trope.

Daywear

Emma’s daywear is full of warm and muted colors. Salmon and magenta are commonly seen. I love that most of Emma’s daywear consists of sleeveless or short-sleeved gowns with wide-sleeved linen blouses underneath. It’s not a commonly seen aesthetic so it feels light and fresh. My favorite of Emma’s daywear dresses is the pale yellow with purple floral print.

There’s one other in particular that I love.

Emma’s blue, sleeveless dress. I love this because of HOW OBVIOUSLY it’s a reference to this portrait of Charlotte, Princess of Wales. I mean...

I’M NOT IMAGINING THIS, RIGHT? WHY DOES NO ONE TALK ABOUT THIS? This is a REAL dress. They still have this exact gown of Princess Charlotte’s. It’s on display. It’s faded, but it’s the same dress.

Harriet has a fresh and innocent green, white and purple color scheme with healthy doses of peach and pink showing. I particularly like her white and purple floral print dress.

Mrs. Weston’s color palette varies, but leans heavily on tans and purples, which is very flattering, I must say, to Johdi May’s coloring and is really refreshing for Mrs. Weston who seems to get stuck in pinks and yellows a lot. No idea what’s going on with the laced-front dress though? This doesn’t quite read as authentic to me, but I do like that her first dress seems to be an apron-front.

I know I already said that this is the worst Jane Fairfax Blue™ offender, but guys I can’t stress it enough. WE ARE 5/5 ON DAYWEAR HERE. LOOK AT THAT. (Also of note, Jane 5 is one of Gwyneth Paltrow’s dresses from the '96 Emma.)

Mrs. Elton seems, at all times, to be wearing some form of pink, but I think I’m right in saying that the white day dress with the rose patterned bodice under the yellow and pink spencer is one of Jane’s dresses from P&P ’80. Can anyone confirm that? They did sneak in some Mrs. Elton Orange™ though, for Box Hill, and it’s worth noting that Mrs. Elton is the only lady who’s appropriately dressed on that occasion.

Isabella gets some understated day gowns that are very nice and also VERY “Jane Austen” in the sense that I feel like Jane Austen herself might have worn them.

Miss Bates, unfortunately is slapped with brown at just about every turn, but at least her “Nice” day outfit has some subtle leaf patterns, which is refreshing. Also Mrs. Goddard has a slappin’ cap. Love that.

Also, Harriet’s Grecian costume for the painting (upper right hand corner). What can I say, but that I love it. I love that it hints at the neoclassical influences on Regency fashion too. This is my favorite interpretation of the painting too.

Evening Wear

You know what I love about this version? It’s the first version of Emma where her gown for the Crown in Ball isn’t WHITE. I know, I know white was fashionable, but it’s just… it’s nice for not EVERY gown in a ball scene to be plain white friggin muslin and also, it’s not one she’s ever worn before, which is great.

Harriet does have only white evening gowns but that’s okay. My only complaint is that, specifically on her Crown Inn dress and in a lot of her costumes in general, the waistline seems just a little low. Hmm. I really like the pale blue pattern on her first evening dress though.

Mrs. Weston though. Woo. Look at those. She has a dark chartreuse gown with black lace trim that any other version would have put on Mrs. Elton, so you know from the dark tones that she’s a bitch. Not so with Emma '09, and that’s good. And her teal dinner number is a favorite of mine. I never paid much attention to her green and gold ball gown but it has some really beautiful, subtle leaf or maybe peacock feather patterns on it and I love that. My only problem is that there seem to be some fit issues. She’s got muffin top way too often. Her orange evening dress is a bit of a dud though, firstly, because it has long sleeves (which is an evening gown no-no) and the fabric slaps a bit too much of sari fabric for my tastes.

Jane, not only is put in blue with both of her evening gowns (although one is so pale it borders on white), ONE of them is another Emma ’96 repeat and not only that, it’s one of Jane Fairfax’s dresses in that film! Perhaps that’s enough to make it an homage, and I have to say, I think Laura Pyper wore it better.

Miss Bates only has one evening wear ensemble, but at least it’s cream and not brown.

Mrs. Elton’s gowns are surprisingly understated, and yet still seem to be annoyingly fussy and, what’s better? They’re not sickly green. One of them is actually a very pleasant mint.

Outerwear

Outerwear is roundly pretty great here. Emma’s primary choice of color for spencers is emerald/evergreen and one of them is Elizabeth’s Bennet’s from the 1995 P&P (though to be honest, I think Jennifer Ehle filled it out better.) I do love Mrs. Elton’s pink and yellow number with the slashed sleeves. Jane Fairfax’s only spencer is, you guessed it, blue, but her friend Miss Campbell has a rather fun mauve one.

There’s no shortage of pelisses and redingotes either. Harriet can be seen in one borrowed from Elinor Dashwood in the '08 S&S, Mrs. Weston has a rather fabulous purple one which she wears with the most delicious looking hat I’ve ever seen.

Emma has two. The first one is a great magenta number with military braiding (and I think she wears with it one of the brown slouch hats that Kate Beckinsale wore in the same role) and while the other pelisse is brown, they had the sense not to make her wear a hat with it that was also brown. Instead, they gave her a contrasting color. Good on ya, Rosalind!

Speaking of hats, I don't often single them out for commentary, but I want to here because… the hat authenticity is… kinda spotty. Let me show you.

Okay first of all, Emma may be a teenager in this pic on the upper left, but she is not dressed formally enough for her sister’s wedding (which is what’s going on in this scene) but at least her hat is pretty good. You can see the ribbons are on the inside of the hat here, which is as it should be… but she never wears this hat again. At any point in the series. Instead, we next see her in the one on the upper right and ye gads this is atrocious. WHY IS HER HAT NOT PINNED ON? IT’S SLIDING DOWN THE BACK OF HER HEAD. SOMONE FIX IT. PLEASE. But wait, there’s more. This kills me because these bottom two are so similar to the one she wore earlier (the correct one) but crappier looking. Jeez.

This is not a hat. It’s a peanut. You know who doesn’t have this problem? Harriet. She only has one sun hat but at least it’s correct.

I also wanna touch briefly on this ^ costume continuity issue.

WTF is this? She’s in the hall, her ribbon is contoured to the line of her dress; she goes into the drawing room and… it isn’t anymore? Wha happun?

I took more menswear screencaps for this version than any other version. And that’s because the men just have more outfits that are, y’know, different from each other.

Mr. Knightley is as understated as ever, but I wanna highlight the first pic there and why I love it. This is Knightley’s first appearance in the series and it’s the perfect establishing shot that shows the viewer everything they need to know about Emma and Knightley’s relationship and how it has always been. He sort of materializes, out of focus in the background, but Emma immediately knows he’s there. And to accentuate how much Knightley is part of her home and scenery, his clothes (similar shades of pale tan, white and minty green to the wall behind him) almost camouflage him and make him seem at one with the moulding.

He also has a rather lovely blue evening waistcoat that I WISH I could have gotten better shot of (although I do believe it’s also worn by Henry Crawford in the '07 Mansfield Park, so for further reading…)

Mr. Weston finally gets to wear clothes that aren’t all brown! He only has ONE brown outfit. He gets PATTERNED waistcoats, one of them a rather spiffing blue and brown striped number. And he wears TROUSERS! Because he’s a gentleman, and he’s not that old and trousers are worn by fashionable gentlemen in this period!

You know who else gets to wear trousers and at least one fun waistcoat? Mr. Woodhouse. Check out that lovely Sunday Best™ waistcoat. The red striped one. That’s delightful.

John Knightley’s evening wear intrigues me. That’s a double-breasted jacket, and you know I’m not totally sure that’s very authentic for evening-wear of this period, but it is different. Unfortunately he also has a flared top hat and that is definitely not on for this period.

One of my favorite things about this version is that they don’t dress Mr. Elton as a clergyman all the time. Yes, he may be the vicar, but he’s also allowed to dress like a fashionable, handsome young man. So I’m really happy that he gets to flex his fashion muscles here.

And speaking of fashionable young men, FINALLY frank gets to be COLORFUL and his trousers are even tight enough. Both he AND Elton are often seen wearing TWO waistcoats, as I would expect them to, and even though Frank’s a dandy, he knows that flashiness is gauche so his pops of color are bright, but not in your face. His green and red waistcoats are always worn under more muted colors, and I just love it.

The only problems are… what’s with the turned-down waistcoat collars? There’s no precedent for this, in fact I think it’s directly contradictory to the style at the time, and also it makes the cravats look a bit unruly.

A Critique of Manners

A lot has been said about the manners in this adaption. Like, the actual manners, body language and facial expressions, specifically vis-à-vis Romola Garai.

And, oh yeah, there’s a lot to pick at here, but first I’d like to talk about the facial expressions.

I'm mostly gonna be talking out of my ass here, but this is my take, so if anyone can make a better argument against my points, I am listening, because I don't really like talking out of my ass and I like to be informed. That said...

I tend to be lenient on the… exaggerated facial expressions because, something I’ve noticed reading Austen’s works through the last several months is that Austen is very descriptive when it comes to facial expressions and I just find it hard to believe that people in the Regency Era never made exaggerated expressions like this.

I’ve heard a lot about how Garai’s Emma is not dignified or lady-like. But let’s think about the context of Emma Woodhouse – she’s never been in society. She’s only had a governess to teach her, and we know Emma’s always been sort of averse to being told what she can and can’t do. Emma is the highest ranking woman in her social circle (barring Isabella’s occasional presence). Emma doesn’t have to be ladylike. At 21, she’s already her local Lady Catherine. She puts a lot of stock in her position in society but, as Mrs. Elton will be the first to hypocritically point out, she’s very poorly behaved. I'd be very curious to see what would happen if Emma went to London for the season. Probably, she'd be seen, comparatively, as a country bumpkin. Can you imagine how she might get on in a sea of accomplished young ladies? She can barely handle having ONE rival with any kind of grace.

Austen never describes bodily movements of the kind we’re looking at when we watch adaptations, so why not have Emma’s body-language be un-ladylike in the conventional sense of the time? I’m not saying this to excuse the absolutely inexcusable (Frank’s head in her lap, kneeling on the sofa backwards etc.), but while Emma’s mannerisms aren’t exactly ladylike for her time, they’re not overtly masculine either (which was one of my biggest problem with Death Comes to Pemberly for example.)

Yes, there’s an ideal for manners. But we know real people didn’t always follow those ideals. In dancing for example, many dancing guidebooks of the day were full of repeated instructions not to be too loud or rambunctious when dancing. What this tells us is that people were doing just that, and probably quite a bit, too. I think that, while taking societal strictures into account, we shouldn’t totally discount the idea that people in the Regency weren’t really that different from us, and young people especially.

Now I’ve already mentioned some of the inexcusable aspects of interaction in this adaptation and they’re so notorious at this point, I don’t think that I really need to go over them much here. Although I will say: is it ridiculous to have Frank Churchill put his head in Emma’s lap? Yes. Did it make me more viscerally uncomfortable with the situation on Box Hill than any other version? Yes.

I was like, 14 when I watched this the first time. This was an effective way to telegraph to young people like me that Emma is being extremely inappropriate here in a way that no other version really managed to, even when I watched them when I was older and understood the period more. I’m far more acquainted with Regency manners than I was then, but to be honest – if they had been accurate with the manners here, when I was 14 I would not have understood what the big deal was. Is there merit in circumventing historical accuracy in favor of reaching a less-informed but still-interested audience? Yes, I think so. There were three other versions of this, at that point, that did this scene with more or less pristine manners. Not every version has to follow the manners of the time to-the-letter to be good. That’s my feeling on the matter.

There are things that do really bother me though. Like the idea that Harriet Smith doesn’t know how to spoon soup, for instance. As I said in my review for the Miramax version, table manners are pretty basic, there’s no reason Mrs. Goddard wouldn’t have taught Harriet this. It does provide a good moment to show Emma tacitly coaching Harriet and showing the trajectory in which this relationship will go, but personally I don’t think it was necessary—there are plenty of other ways that could be done.

Also: kids at the dinner table? I know this is part of building the familial atmosphere but it really does annoy me, because apart from building the familial atmosphere (which they do very well and frequently in other ways) it really didn’t need to happen, and it doesn’t add anything.

The Heart of Highbury

So, as I’ve hinted at throughout this review, the bread and butter of this adaptation of Emma is emotion. This version goes hard and heavy on showingthe relationships – Emma’s relationships with Mrs. Weston, Mr. Knightley, her father, her sister, her brother-in-law, Miss Bates; Jane’s relationship with Frank; Frank’s relationship with his father; The John Knightleys’ home life – and it illustrates things that can be surmised from just reading the story, but really draws your attention to them in ways that other adaptations just don’t.

It does this from the very beginning with the prologue which explains in detail (not just in quick exposition between characters) how Jane and Frank were separated from their families at young ages. We know now, from psychological study, that being taken away from their primary caretakers during their formative years is one of the most psychologically traumatizing things for a child. This is deeply important context which is explained in detail by the narrator in 2-3 large pages (in my Barnes & Noble anthology) in the book.

In the featurette on the houses, they talk particularly about Hartfield and the Woodhouses being the heart of Highbury and how they particularly wanted it to feel homey because Hartfield is Emma’s house and they wanted the audience to feel why everyone is so drawn to it, and to Emma; to me that is what they did with the whole adaptation in microcosm.

I usually talk a bit about the dancing and I'm going to here as well because this is maybe the most special dance scene in any Austen for me. Of course I'm going to link to Tea with Cassiane as usual because she knows what she's talking about and I don't. But I wanna add some comments. She gives this a pretty low rating in spite of a generally favorable commentary because of two big oopsies, the circle dance formation is one, and the other is I believe, an issue with the style of dance not matching the tune in Emma's dance with Knightley. Throwing out any objective technical analysis though, this is my favorite Ball in any Austen and it all comes down to the cornerstone of this adaptation--emotion.

All of the songs and dances were original compositions and choreography made for this adaptation. So they're not period per se, but the tunes at least are representative of how Regency dance music should sound. These dances are upbeat, and lively and, damn they look like fun. Everyone is excited here and it makes me understand why dancing was such a big thing. Best of all that excitement adds to the emotional charge of the scene. "The Ship's Cook" is the most fast paced dance and I'm glad they made this the dance where Elton snubs Harriet because it really hits for me just what Harriet would be missing out on if Knightley wasn't so fucking aptly named. In all other versions you get the insult, but the dance that's taking place is usually a Baroque walker so it doesn't seem terribly like she's missing out on much. Here, this is like not getting picked for kickball-- not only is it a slight that no one wants you on their team, but you miss out on even playing the game. Harriet looks so lonely, and her feeling of being out of place rolls off of Louise Dylan so forcefully it chokes me up just thinking about it because I've been there, man. I feel this shit. *dabs eyes*. Ahem. So, yes, when Knightley engages her for the dance the excitement the viewer feels is that much more forceful and Harriet's exuberantly starting to jump in when the timing is off and Knightley gently pulling her back, it just hits me in the feels center, guys. (I wanna take a moment to give a shout out to every camp counselor who ever partnered with me for any game at summer camp.) Emma's reaction too, is gold. Her genuine relief at Knightley swooping in is one of those great reminders that Emma is Harriet's friend, and she does care about her.

Finally on the dancing front, I wanna talk about Emma's dance with Knightley and why I prefer it to the one in the 2020 version. I already talked about this a bit in the 2020 review, so I'm gonna try and keep it brief. That shouldn't be too hard, because I'm probably mostly going to repeat a lot of what I've already said about Emma and Knightley in this version as a whole.

The big thing everyone loves about the Crown Inn dance in the 2020 is the yearning, the sexual tension, the quivering touches etc. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE all of those things but... not all the time. Not in everything, and definitely not in Emma. Because Emma, to me, isn't about repressed sexuality or heated tension or seething passion. Emma and Knightley are the opposite of that, to me, really. One of my mutuals put it best, I think: "Emma and Knightley are more suited to stolen glances than hot touches."

In Part 1 I talked about how Knightley is Emma's comfort object. When Emma is out of sorts, Knightley re-centers her. It helps set up, and puts emphasis on, the crisis of the story in the last act--Emma not knowing what she has until [she thinks] she's lost it. Emma and Knightley are Friends to Lovers done as it should be. She is already so comfortable with him she doesn't even realize her own feelings. She just feels right with Knightley and that's what this dance is here to show you--a foreshadowing of matrimonial harmony.

The dance itself, of course, is always up to interpretation, because Austen never describes how it goes, just that Knightley asks Emma to dance and Knightley doesn't dance (barring charitable causes). If you prefer the sexual tension take, if that, to you is an improvement on Austen's story and gives you what you've always felt was missing, I'm glad that there is a version now that gives you what you've been looking for, but for me, I think the 09 approach hits closer their dynamic in the book.

Now do I do think the Emphasis on emotion maybe went a little too earnest in some places in this adaptation? Maybe. Just a little.

In my last review (1972) I went on a rather lengthy tirade about the scene where they turn Emma’s appeals to Harriet to exert herself and move on following Mr. Elton’s marriage into Emma guilting Harriet into thinking she’s a bad friend for being heartbroken and then throwing her into the situation most likely to rub salt in that particular wound.

In this version, while I love the emphasis they put on the stress Emma puts on her own guilt for being the reason for Harriet’s situation in the first place, I think it’s maybe a little too… much.

That’s the only way I can put it. I know I’ve just said that I think there should be a bit more expressiveness in period drama, but this doesn’t quite match the way I read it (Emma’s a bit less desperate in Austen’s prose. Very dedicated to helping Harriet feel better, but just a skosh more composed). I think she’s even crying in this scene.

While we’re here let’s go over to Box Hill ONE. MORE. TIME.

First of all, this is where this screenplay shines, in my opinion. This is the big turning point in the story and as such, should be a touchstone for the judgment of any adaptation. This sequence in the 2009 version is a perfect crystallization of everything I love about this version—namely that this is the version that, to me, most feels like someone read the book thoroughly, paid attention to what Austen was describing and then actually tried to convey it on screen. A lot of other versions sort of feel (to me), like the director glanced at the page and said “here’s what I want to convey in my version”. Insofar as making a piece of art goes, that’s good. Directors are artists as much as painters are and movies are their canvass, but it’s seldom that you find a director who honestly wants to hit as close to the author intent as possible and this Box Hill sequence makes me feel like that’s what Jim O’Hanlon was going for. I have the book open next to me as I write this and it’s shocking to me how minutely the atmosphere described in the book is conveyed here. Most of all, the fact that Emma’s insulting Miss Bates is not the only thing faux pas she makes here. Box Hill as a whole is a disaster, and it’s largely because of Frank.

“When they all sat down it was better; to [Emma’s] taste, a great deal better, for Frank Churchill grew talkative and gay, making her his first object. To amuse her, and to be agreeable in her eyes, seemed to be all that he cared for—and Emma, glad to be enlivened, and not sorry to be flattered, was gay and easy too, and gave him all the friendly encouragement, the admission to be gallant, which she had ever given in the first and most animating period of their acquaintance; but which now, in her own estimation, meant nothing, though in the judgment of most people looking on it must have had such an appearance as no English word but flirtation could very well describe. “Mr. Frank Churchill and Miss Woodhouse flirted excessively.” They were laying themselves open to that very phrase—and to having it sent off in a letter to Maple Grove by one lady, to Ireland by another. Not that Emma was gay and thoughtless from any real felicity; it was rather because she felt less happy than she expected. She laughed because she was disappointed…” --Emma, Chapter 43

Most other versions rush through Frank’s “excessive” flirting with Emma (Right in front of Jane) to get to “Three Things Very Dull Indeed” as fast as possible, and yes that’s the crowning horror of Box Hill, but there’s a very intricate setting here, too, and this version has the time to lay back and let it all unfold in the oppressive discomfort of an English summer day.

Even better than all of that though is Knightley confronting Emma after it all goes down. This treatment is neither plaintive, nor aggressive as it was in ‘96 and ‘97 respectively. I’ve already extolled the virtues of Johnny Flynn’s Box Hill rebuke, but for a change I’m not going to zero in on Miller’s performance which is, at least as good as Flynn’s, but on Romola Garai’s, which I find superior to Anya Taylor Joy’s. Specifically, her reaction once she’s alone.

ATJ in the 2020 version immediately breaks down sobbing and it’s hard for me to feel that she’s sobbing for “anger against herself, mortification, and deep concern” or that there’s much self-reflection going on there. To me it rather just feels like she’s crying because she got shouted at. The theatrics of it, to me, feel childish and self-centered.

I don’t feel that with Garai’s performance.

“She was vexed beyond what could have been expressed—almost beyond what she could conceal. Never had she felt so agitated, mortified, grieved, at any circumstance in her life. She was most forcibly struck . . . How could she have exposed herself to such ill opinion in anyone she valued! And how to suffer him to leave her without saying one word of gratitude, of concurrence, of common kindness!

Time did not compose her…” --Emma, Chapter 43

Of course one can make the case that Emma's reaction should be a bit childish because Emma is an immature character, but that's the thing--I can agree with you anywhere else in this story but this is Emma's maturing moment. This is her turning point as a character. It's where we should see her reactions shift from the same childish denial we're used to seeing when Knightley scolds her, because this is different. It's not the usual brushing off of big brother Knightley, this is a young woman reacting to an esteemed friend pointing out how abhorrently inappropriate she's been and her having to admit that to herself.

I didn't really want to drag comparisons to the 2020 film into this, not on this scale at least, but this just jumped out at me the last time I watched the new film and I have to express it somewhere.

What I see in Garai’s performance is desolation and mortification. That shocked tearfulness of knowing you’ve been justly reproached for wrongdoing, but being too frozen in a pretense of composure to actually cry about it until you’re quite sure that no one will see you. And especially when it’s someone you esteem rebuking you, the horror of them leaving before you can admit that they’re right. There’s so much more depth here, I think, and I can’t even quite express what it makes me feel.

The aspect of time not composing her is another thing that they decided to put stress on in this version. Emma looks fucked up in the following scenes. When she goes to see Miss Bates, she clearly either hasn’t slept or has slept very badly. I feel like this is maybe an anticlimactic conclusion to this section but I’m afraid I’m very close to reaching incoherence, so I’m just gonna leave it here.

My absolute favoritest thing about this version though—something that sets it apart from ALL other versions and even adaptations of other Austen stories—is the inclusion of the post-confession conversation.

This is something of a trope in Austen books but it very rarely finds its way into adaptations: confessions of love are out of the way, the hero and heroine settle into an easy an comfortable conversation, glowing with happiness as they explain and laugh over their actions and misinterpretations of each other’s choices. It happens in Pride and Prejudice, in Persuasion, and yes, in Emma. This is the only Austen adaptation, that I've seen, to include this kind of conversation in any kind of detail. The 1995 Pride and Prejudice alludes to the corresponding scene in it its source material, but the lines pulled from it get tossed into the confession scene itself and then it flies through to get to the obligatory wedding—a side effect of rushing through endings, a convention I’m rather tired of.

Emma (2009) takes its time with this, as with all other aspects of this adaptation. For a version that’s so full of energy, its pacing is extremely laid back and comfortable, without dragging. When you hear the gentle musical swell and Emma and Knightley have their kiss (this whole confession sequence is so sweet and wonderful in its own right), you expect that to be it. But no, we cut to them, the picture of contented happiness, sitting together on a bench overlooking Hartfield’s garden, just talking and enjoying being together, with no teasing, no pretense. If Jane Austen stories emphasize anything, it’s the importance of communication in relationships, and I think that’s maybe why she made it a point in almost every story to show her characters communicating their feelings in words, even after all the conflict has been resolved. This is my favorite scene in the whole series (In case it being my header image didn’t make that obvious.)

This is followed rather promptly by a cut to the next day, with Emma bursting in to Donwell in hysterics about how they can’t be married because she won’t leave her father alone.

This is one of those maybe over-the-top choices that a lot of people don’t like, but guys, it was so funny to me when I was fourteen and it still makes me laugh. It might seem outlandish, but to me it’s just the emphasis on personal relationships and emotion coming through again and it always makes me smile.

Final Thoughts

It’s hard for me to give a proper round up of my feelings for this section because I think I’ve poured just about all of my feelings on each aspect into its dedicated sections.

At the end of the day, the only thing that really disappoints me about this version is the number of missed opportunities there are here. One of my favorite parts of reading Austen is when I run across a line in dialogue or narrative that just… slaps. But they never make it into the adaptations. Emma is full of them and I just wish that Sandy Welch could have taken an opportunity to slip a few of them in.

In summary, I think this is a wonderful, heartfelt adaptation aimed at getting to the emotional heart of a story that often gets caught up in the Mean Girl-ness of its main character than the coming of age story that it is. It's one of my favorite period dramas because it's one of the few that really captures the spirit of the source material as it's always felt to me. There's really only two other period dramas that I esteem on the same level as this, and they're North & South (2004) and Jane Eyre (2011) and it's for the same reasons; because they impact me deeply on an emotional level--which is what art is supposed to do--because of how well it captures the essence of the story that I know and love.

So did I succeed in a more objective review of Emma 2009? I' feel like probably not. But I tried my best. It’s so hard to be objective about something that makes you as happy as this adaptation makes me.

the reason i picked this is cuz i imagined her hair got longer after being in undar for so long, just like Rex's hair, it looks like it got longer.. well, if they're not legos lmao, the main was supposed to be the "extra design" but i remembered Rex scruffles(????) Emmet's hair to look like his in the movie, yes, Vale also does that to Lucy cuz why not (but of course, its gonna be shorter (again, if it's not legos)), so yeah, her hair is loose..y (get it? XD)

A Love Story in 3 parts.

Why the month of June is always very interesting. basically an excuse to try making a timeline of 1 month spanning three years before I attempt to do the 2017-2020 timeline. the keyword there is ATTEMPT.

﹌﹌Part I:  June 2018 ﹌﹌

This is a popular guess on the month that they actually got together— as far as acknowledging that they’re NOT bros. Keep in mind that these two supposedly first met on 3/14/2017 with no interactions or even eye contact ( as per Web). After that, they meet again 4/2018 as CQL started shooting. 

That’s two months of interaction. We have different timelines in our head with them, so you can interpret this as A.) they hit it off really quickly that’s why it only took a little time for their feelings to go THERE. B.) they are lying liars who lie and have been in contact from 2017-2018.

• 6.2.2018 - Shooting of LWJ and WWX in the rain.  • 6.3.2018 - Produce 101 Performance! Yes, the same one where GG was a mentor and they acted like they didn’t know each other. Famous for moments such as:

Glancing at each other even if separated by people. +  Sharing an earpiece. GG smiling while watching Web Dance.

• 6.3.2018 - TTXS episode airing where Web gives love clues, where he says it depends on how he feels. Also that when he’s 40, he wants a kid and a dog.

• 6.16.2018 - Shooting guns at each other and dancing to Black Pink’s Ddu Ddu.

• { VERY IMPORTANT DATE} 6.18.2018 is when they shot this scene. GG is looking all wet, with mud on his face but Web just says he still looks handsome with no make up on. Also, CAN WE TAKE A SECOND AND WEEP at how GG looks at Web here. His eyes. Wow. He clearly adores Web at this point.

• They also shot WWX handing Zongzi to LWJ.

• Later that day, they ate together. They were photographed by paps who thought Web was going out with a girl. The produced and director of CQL was also there.

• GG then posted this on Weibo on 20:18 “love you yibo” as a greeting for the Festival. Web took the picture, according to me. I’m the curtain.

• 6.19.2018 - The next day, Web is photographed at the airport with the same clothes. This is also the first appearance of his white Nike Bag. He had to go and film an episode of Happy Camp.

• 6.22.2018 - a supposedly important day too as they cued 622 a couple of times. This is a good read on that.

• 6.30.2019 - Web attends Yuehua annual party as Spiderman (into the spider verse).

• 6.5.20 - GG posts after a long time of silence with a picture of blue sky. Captioning it with : “Blue skies and white clouds, what do you see?” more on the significance of blue sky and white clouds with BYX here.  • 6.9.20 - XZ studio posts a video about GG’s daily life, giving us a glimpse of what he was doing. • 6.12.20 - We finally get a selfie from GG! He mentions on his caption that his hair is getting long. There is a CPN on this that the shirt he is wearing is a couple shirt from trasher which matches Web’s. Also, as people match the scenery posts on this, it matches with Web’s filming locations. 

• 6.13.20 - GG Douyin update, making orange juice like a pro. CPN on this is that the place he is filming at is pretty similar to Web’s house. But let’s not go there. 

• 6.18.20 - Another artwork post from GG. 

• 6.20.20 - Himalaya releases a CF for their new endorser, Wang Yibis. THIS CF ANS EVERYTHING ABOUT IT KILLED US. Starting with Web’s post,  “Some words, even if I don’t say it, u guys will know. This is our tacit understanding. Love is like this. Accompanying everyday.”

• 6.21.20 - Web video doing an Ollie (skateboard trick). People were speculating where he actually is on this one. most probably just him enjoying his down time and probably Lele taking that video.  • 6.25.20 - GG posts an artwork of zongzi along with an actual one for dragon boat festival. People have analyzed the little drawings and noted one looks like him & the other as Web. 

• AND FINALLY, this year’s Dragon Boat Festival gave way to the crazy fake rumor of them getting “engaged” + buying a house and car. When this came out, it was such a sweet fanfic— but with how the fake rumors becoming true lately— this is now very scary 👀.

This started with GG’s post and the background being compared to one of Web’s cast-mate, Wang Hao Xuan.

What gets me is the caption saying, “stuff that happens at work is a secret”. / “someone became super talkative while eating zongzi” What? Why? Who do we know is quiet but becomes really talkative when with his GG? WANG YIBIS.

Post-shoot, The director attended SDOC 3 finals too! To support Web. Plus Web’s message for the wrap was sweet. I felt like they really took care of him and will not say anything that will bring him down.

so this song is incredible, like it slowed really hits different. billie’s voice has always been so interesting to me because sometimes she sings like very whisper like, and other times she is full on belting like going insane, and i really like that she uses her voice in multiple different ways during her songs. billie is the number one artist i go to when i really wanna be in the feels, and this verison of my future is so amazing. the beat is so interesting, and the thumbnail is really cool 9/10, also i don’t know what the language is nor, do i know what it says, so if you do, let me know lol 😂 but the picture is cool. this song is one i listen to all the time because it’s just- yes. overall recommend this song when your chilling in bed, just in the dark, with the window open on a summer night :)

okay, so we all know that I love Cinderella. and this song is so incredible, i can’t- okay, but just imagine… the bad batch, undercover at a senate ball, you, trying to make sure the senators are safe. the boys are in their separate locations, you know, watching, making sure everyone is good. some random dude from out of nowhere tries to make you dance with him. you are obviously like “um, what the heck, please no sir.” and suddenly…

“may i have this dance?”

it’s Hunter (or crosshair, but i’ve written a fic about Hunter dancing with the reader, so i feel like he would be a good dancer).

anyways, he whisks you away from random dude, and your like “Hunter there’s no music” because the orchestra just finished their previous song, and he’s like

“just wait.”

bam, this song comes on.

and suddenly, Hunter’s waltzing with you and you didn’t even know he could waltz. and it’s exactly like the scene from Cinderella 2015. So you two are doing your own thing in the middle of the ballroom, and everyone starts moving out of the way because woah these people are really good at dancing

and you are just shocked because HOW??

and he just leads you through the whole thing. he spins you around, and if your wearing a dress and it’s got some tulle on it, it swishes around when he spins you and oh my god the butterflies and smile he gets when you giggle because you love the way it swirls around you. and then people start backing up more, because at this rate, you guys are taking up the whole dance floor.

and you just keep going, and he starts pick you up and spinning you around when the harp comes on. and he grabs you by the waist and starts swinging you around just like Kit & Ella do in the movie. and then the end of the song comes, and he dips you, brings you back up, and that’s it.

sleeping beauty is one of my favorite disney princesses besides rapunzel & cinderella, so i love this. The GIF is so pretty, 10/10. a bitch is going to analyse the appearances of wilbur and tommy in the vlog w/ pictures because it is 2:12 am, i get simpy at night, and i just watched the vlog and have shit to say

aight literally im writing an essay on them and pinning it for the time being because there is no better way to introduce myself than this because this is honestly what i am anyway its below the cut 

Alright. Allow us to just jump in, okay?

The thoughts are a bit incoherent at times it took me a while to piece together my shit.

To make it easier, we are going to start with Tommy. I am going to just be... talking about how he looked in the video. Don’t take it a weird way.

So basically when I am deciding whether or not Tommyinnit looks good in a specific clip/picture I just kinda use 3 things. How much I like his shirt, How fluffy his hair looks, and how much his eyes stand out. What I mean is I rate him on, like, aesthetic attractiveness. So.

In the vlog, and just generally whenever he goes outdoors on camera, Tommy wears his signature colors on his signature type of shirt. White with red sleeves, shoulders, and collar. It’s the Tommyinnit shirt. (Also known as the protagonist shirt, because just so many main characters wear that shirt.) That kind of shirt is my second favorite, below his pink shirt. So it scores very highly for me. (Listen, his pink shirt is something hard to describe. It makes me happy.)

Also, forgot to mention the MASKS. For in public? They are what inspired this essay. Anyway.

Tommy’s eyes. Man. If you know me all I do is talk about Tommys eyes/his pink shirt, and this paragraph is the eye paragraph. So anyways. Tommyinnit has pretty blue eyes. How do I explain what makes eyes pretty? I can’t. They are really blue. And they are his eyes. And they are pretty eyes. Anyway, so, during certain parts of the video, his eyes really stand out.

Also, his hair is pretty fluffy. Would rate it high.

Time to thread together my thoughts.

So, Tommy’s mask that he normally wears in public is like a generic cheap-ass light blue mask, but like. That mask. It’s light blue, so it really compliments his eyes, but also, because it’s blue, it contrasts his shirt, which is just really cool? IDK how to explain it, have a couple pictures. 

Neither of these pictures are actually from the vlog but like... that’s just his fit when he goes outside. It’s easier to show through like a good picture than just a screenshot. Anyway, do you see what I’m saying? Somehow the mask just is doing it for him. Nice job, Tommy.

Also, in his in-between parts where he was explaining stuff, his eyes REALLY stood out?

Look at his eyes! They look really unremarkable apon deeper thought but this isn’t about that. I think it’s the natural lighting? Like, I think he’s just using the light from his windows, and he just looks good in natural lighting? All evidence points to yes. 

(I kept on watching the video to get screenshots for later and ended up just wisper-screaming ‘they are literally STUNNING! what the FUCK!’ about his eyes so I think you understand by now how they make me feel. These pictures don’t do them justice, they are like S P A R K L I N G in the video.)

Anyway, onto the bigger and more simpful part. Wilbur fucking Soot. I could go on and ON about how he’s the prettiest fucker on this side of the cosmos, and I will. Not really, but to explain how I feel, I gotta go in depth, so bear with me. If you survived the pictures of Tommy and me talking about eyes you can do this.

so actually im just going to resist the urge to write everything about wilbur that i think is gorgeous because we would be here forever and let’s just skip to the point. wilbur in the video was wearing his glasses, this really really light like... beige shirt that is like a button up or whatever and very his style and looks great and. a mask. a plain white mask.

i cant even explain it to you. it just highlights his features REALLY FUCKING WELL. its like really tight on his face and so like his jaw,,,,,,,,,, and shit and it matches really well w/ his shirt. just- look at the pictures.

seriously its just its so like tight on his face and like- how do i even explain how pretty he is? he’s just already pretty, and that mask does nothing to hide it one bit. it’s RIDICULOUS. 

also forgot to mention his hair, but his hair literally always looks fucking incredible. damn. 

and then LATER, when Tommy breaks onto Wilbur’s stream, and Wilbur comes on to another stream to apologise, and he just looks so GOOD. like the gods were in his favor that day or whatever, because he just looks SO good. just- look.

Third person p.o.v.

It was a windy day, the streets weren't particularly crowded. Outside the great Edo we could see a young woman walking down a pathway.

She was wearing a dark green and long steampunk Styled dress along with a Brown leather corset and a pair of High boots of the same colour.

Her hair were long,black with Blue highlights,part of her bangs were white coloured and her eyes where pink.

She surely had a really pretty face..........it's s Pity that such pretty face held a frown.

"Uhh"she sighed sadly

"Once again no one accepted my job request~~she sighed again~~since the amanto arrived finding a job for a human has become much more difficult, especially a job like a doctor"

The girl wailed in frustration,laying her back on a wall nearby, taking advantage of the moment to put down her heavy bag.

"Hahahahhahhaa miss I can see your panties!"  She heard an unknown voice saying.

"Eh?"

She looked around but she didn't see anyone .

'am I hearing things?'she nervously thought.

"Hahahahhaha down here miss!"

She finally looked down and saw ...........a man~~no,actually half man~~his head between her feet.

"KYAAAAAAAAA!!!!" the girl screamed Startled and kicked the unknown man's face.

"AAAAH!" He shouted in pain

The girl who finally recomposed herself after the startle, hurriedly kneeled down to him.

"IAMSOSORRYMISTERIWASSTARLEDANDIREACTEDWHITOUTTHINKINGIDID'NTMEANTO......." She said panicking and so quickly That he almost didn't get what she was saying.

Sakamoto blinked,m̶i̶r̶a̶c̶u̶l̶o̶u̶s̶l̶y̶ silent for just a second.

"So you are telling me that you kicked me in the face because I scared you........and not because I saw your panties?"he asked unsure.

"Y-yes, I-I-I'm  genuinely sorry!"she exclaimed blushing as she repeatedly bowed her head to him.

"Hahahahahah no worries I'm alright!!!"

"A-are you sure sir? You are bleeding!"she said worried

"A-And also,do you mind if I ask........why are you stuck in a wall?"

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"He laughed obnoxiously

"I was trying to get back into my ship,but I was really late and I saw this hole in a wall! So I tried so pass by here as a shortcut.........BUT IT DIDN'T WORK AND NOW I'M STUCK!HAHAHHAHH!!!"

"Okay,please hold still, I'll try to get you out"

The girl grabbed the man's head, pulling with all her might

"AHAHHAAHHA!MISS YOU ARE PULLING MY HEAD OFF!!!"

Finally with one last pull the permhead was freed~~but in doing so he accidentally fell on her.

"Hahahah!thank you!"

"N-no prob-"

She abruptly stopped talking because she noticed a liiiiittle  detail~~the man above her had no pants or underwear,they probably slipped out him when the girl pulled him out of the hole~~

The poor girl head literally blowed up in flames.

".......eh?"was all she could mutter before she fainted.

"Hahahah!miss?"

Suddenly something extremely violent threw sakamoto off of the poor fainted girl,making him literally break through the wall.

That something was none other that mutsu's kick

"I knew you were a pervert, but I didn't expect you to force yourself on a girl"mustu said with a terrifying tone,but unfortunately sakamoto couldn't hear her~~he fainted too.........and he probably had some broken bones~~

After a while the girl woke up.......only to see the guy she helped~~still not wearing any underwear and pants~~being beaten half to death by a woman.

The shocked pink-eyed girl broke out of her trance, running towards the woman and grabbing her waist, preventing her from hitting the injured man again.

"P-Please stop it he is already injured,you could seriously hurt him!!" She begged her with watery eyes.mutsu stopped immediately and looked down at the black-haired girl, and she couldn't not notice how cute she was~~mutsu even blushed a little!!!~~

Mutsu Recomposed herself, and finally let go of the almost dead fool on the ground.she looked at the girl with an arched brow~~usually when sakamoto was being a pervert all the girls he tried to flirt with always gave him the beatings of his life~~

' is this girl actually defending him???'she questioned herself incredulously.

The young woman immediately rushed to his side~~even ignoring the fact that he was not completely dressed ~~and she begin treating him.

I slowly opened my eyes bothered by the sun's rays that blinded me.I get up sitting on the ground~~and I noticed that I had again my pants on!~~(courtesy of mutsu)

Then I heard a sweet voice speaking kindly.

"Are you feeling better?"she spoked softly to me.

"Are you feeling any pain"she asked me as her small palm held my cheek~~plobably to check up on any injuries,but I blushed.......hard~~

"Hahahahahah! don't worry miss!I'm a tough guy ya know?hahahah!"

I energetically spoke~~trying to cover up the fact that I was embarrassed~~ as I backed off a little.

"They do say that idiots never die,so I think that you don't have anything to worry about" mutsu says.

"Hahahahahah!you are so mean mutsu!!!"
