Remembered I loved the Light Fury so so much so I made an edit for her because I still think that the fandom mistreated her so terribly. She's literally just a sparkly dragon who was captured and abused acting on instinct. She didn't "take" Toothless from Hiccup, she courted with him and he chose to go with her. She saved Hiccup's life in the end, she just doesn't immediately trust humans because humans tried to end her life and locked her in a cage. They muzzled her and used her to try and kill another dragon. She's literally just a wild animal who wanted to survive and find a mate and I love her so fucking much you don't understand.

i think the reason people like Feathers is that she has a fairly appealing and cute design compared to the other new dragons introduced in T9R, which unfortunately isn't saying much, she's still pretty bland compared to the dragon designs from the films and previous TV series. i really wish they had leaned into the feathered serpent inspiration more for the Featherhides. i also agree that the Flood Fang is one of the better designs in T9R, though i still think it could use some tweaks to fit better into the HTTYD universe. i don't blame the people who worked on the show for these issues, i'm guessing Dreamworks probably didn't give them enough time or budget to make the show as good as it potentially could have been.

also the Bubblehorn is slightly edited model of a dragon from Rescue Riders, which is why it looks like... That.

I think the real killer in Feathers's full potential, along with the other dragons, is frankly the style.

If I knew nothing about TNR and I was shown this, I would have guessed that this came from a little kids series closer to Rescue Riders than the actual HTTYD line. The style is way too cartoony and blocky and it just doesn't match to the HTTYD style, even the older, less quality styles of the series (no hate towards the series of course because it's my soul and blood, but we can't argue that for obvious reasons, it can't hold up against the movie's graphics).

This blocky and cartoony look sadly makes the design suffer in terms of HTTYD-relations. As its own series, I feel like it's fine. Of course, since this is a continuation from the original HTTYD timeline and not a spin-off like Rescue Riders, it's hard not to constantly compare, but I also feel like it's the nature of things as well.

Now, I totally agree that Feathers's design is much more appealing that the others, especially Wu and Wei... She has much more personality and her abilities are frankly just more interesting. Thunder is just a Toothless copy, Wu and Wei are painfully predictable, and Plowhorn is just "the beef" of the group.

Of course, with all of this said, I'm still not crazy over Feathers like the bulk of the other fans are, but I'm not saying that I dislike her, either. If I'm going to be completely honest, it's Thunder I want to like the most. Night lights are familiar and enjoyable, but TNR's night lights are.....not. That, and no one on this green earth will convince me not to hate the fact that Thunder looks so much like a night fury cop-out instead of like an actual mix between two subspecies, especially since there would be more light fury genetics added to the gene pool at this point and would be overtaking the night fury ones by now.

i think the thing that is funny to me is that httyd2 felt like such a disconnect, and i can’t see rlly how it was set up in the original movie but the direction they took makes sense from a storytelling pov - expending the world, increasing the stakes, retelling the same hope with slightly more serious content. i don’t necessarily like that direction, or think that it was the right way to go or that they understood what made the first movie so good, but from a storytelling & marketing point of view it all makes sense. and httyd3 very CLEARLY was setting up tnr, the whole reason many people called the ending bittersweet was that one day humanity would “deserve dragons” but it wasn’t right now, no matter how much hiccup tried. of course there’s going to be modern au. this is just a logical next step.

the amount of ppl acting like it’s out of nowhere, or doesn’t make sense, or is a boring concept they don’t care about is ??????? if you couldn’t see this coming or when it arrived can‘t see why theyd come to make this maybe you don’t understand storytelling as much as you think, or maybe you’re just too old for httyd. to suggest that some niche content you’re personally interested in that actually if you thought about would make a pretty boring story to show on television to the target audience is somehow more in interesting than the dragons coming back is so….. arrogant. your faves aren’t always actually that interesting. sometimes they’re interesting to you bc of your headcanons for them.

that doesn’t mean, of course, that you can’t like dislike the concept or not like the direction, or not criticse the writing and editing. Of course you can. but to act like that dislike is some literary criticism of how the story doesnt make sense or isn’t interesting is silly. you can just dislike things. you can just say “i would have preferred the mystery of not knowing when the dragons came back and believed my own concept” or “this is my ideal concept”. i dislike lots of httyd concept and i criticse but that doesn’t mean i don’t understand why they did what they did. and i think it’ll make you a better writer to come at this & any other media from a point of “Why did they make this decision?” As well as “this isn’t the direction I would go” instead of just “these professional adults are idiotss and this isn’t even an interesting story” like they don’t have market testing

what part of “the world doesn’t deserve you yet” is just not sinking in, lmao. httyd3 was just marketing for the nine realms lmao
