The Maligned Yuri Bracket's preliminary round is underway!

It will still take me a good deal more time to find or make images for all of these pairings and schedule the polls, so don't expect voting to start up right away. But let's take a look at our contestants anyway!

EDIT: The preliminary round has started! This post will be updated with links to polls as they are posted and results as they come out.

I've decided that all pairings that received more than one submission will automatically be included in the final bracket, since there were so few of them. The remaining pairings have been sorted into 55 matchups of 2-4 pairings each, the winners of which will be added to a final bracket of 64.

When posted, the polls will include excerpts of the reasoning submitters gave as to how the pairings are maligned, to help people decide who they'd like to vote for. For now, here's a look at all of the pairings listed alongside the media they're from:

First character you loved:

1. I’m gonna disappoint everyone with saying it was Malatesta. I’m one nasty uniform loving boi fite me for it! Then came the butler who swept me off of my feet and I forgot about the Captain completely lol. 2. Umi!! She’s still one of my best girls and will forever be. I still have her starter R card and never getting rid of it. With Sunshine I think it was Riko, because her design was the most appealing. 3. Before playing the game I saw fanarts of Dorian and it was love at first sight haha. Truth is I only bought the game, because of him.

The character you never expected to love so much:

1. I never thought I would get so attached to Oscar after the first game. Y’all know, after all those tickets and visas. (Never forget!!) I also never thought I would become the number one James stan, but here we are. 2. I went through all the stages of loving Nico with detesting her at the beginning and ending up with Nico did nothing wrong. Also when Sunshine was announced and we only got very little infos to work with I didn’t know how to feel about Yohane, Mari and Ruby and yet they are my top girls. 3. I was a bit wary about Cassandra, but she’s great, would die for her while hunting for dragons. Also Cole is a close second.

The character you relate to the most:

1. Jam-boi, because I too am running on sarcasm and hate to do things I’m asked to. 2. Chika’s storyline hit home a lot, especially the Zero to One part where she was acting brave and putting on a facade, but breaking down in the end after failing. I guess Nico as well with her trying her best, but failing until Honoka came along. 3. Dorian. Any character with daddy issues is immediately relatable for me. And again sarcasm.

The character you’d slap:

1. I’d punch Dan any day. 2. Hmmm... I think Kanan already got a slap, so I’ll pass. 3. Ssssssolas. I thought we were pals my dude.

Three favorite characters in order of preference:

1. James, Helena, Oscar and Kate. (I’m sorry I can’t do just three, the whole squad has to be there.) 2. For the original: Umi, Nico and Nozomi. For Sunshine: Yohane, Mari and Ruby. 3. Josephine, Dorian, Blackwall.

A character you liked at first but don’t anymore:

1. Hans. What you did can not be forgiven. 2. Maki grew kinda bland with her tsun-tsun personality. I still love her, but not as much as i used to. Same with Zuramaru. She was really reduced to a joke. 3. I really liked Sera, but as I learned more about her the more I disagreed with her.

Three OTPs:

1. James/Helena, what a surprise lol. Kate/Oscar is a close second, I mean I wrote my first ever fanfic with them and did my first Syb fanart sketch with these two, they just took a bit of a backseat for now. 計算中と言う番組の瀬良穂乃花ちゃんが滝川みうちゃんい発した「汚れるなら私が汚したい」発言から、攻めが逆転したらなネタです。 久しぶりにお絵かきしたらスラスラ楽しめて描けました(笑) Surface Laptop Studioで描いたのですが個人的に現時点で最高のお絵描きデバイスです。 Slime Pen 2になってApple Pencil並かレイテンシーに関してはそれ以上になりましたよ。
