Kamilah woke Amy carefully.

"Hey," she said softly. "We're home."

Amy stood slowly, snow falling around them. She looked at Kamilah, beautiful in the moonlight. "I'm sorry," she whispered.

Kamilah shook her head.

"None of that. Come on, little firefly," she told her. Kamilah pulled their bags from the car, taking Amy's hand and leading her to their apartment.

She opened the door, smiling when she saw what her friends had pulled off in such little time. The apartment was lit up with Christmas lights, the tree sitting front and center in the living room. They had even made some Christmas cookies and hot chocolate. Christmas music played in the background. She stepped aside, setting the bags down, allowing Amy to see the surprise.

"Oh!" she said, wide-eyed."Oh, you guys. This is wonderful." Tears began streaming down her face. Adrian, Jax, and Lily all stood, dressed in their Christmas-themed pajamas.

"We have PJs for you and Kamilah, too!" Lily said excitedly. She darted to get them.

"Thank you," Amy said, looking at her friends, then Kamilah.

"Family should be together on Christmas," Adrian said, smiling.

Jax stepped forward with a plate of cookies. "Cookie?" he asked.

Amy laughed. "Maybe later," she said. Lily handed her their Christmas pajamas. "Go change!" she said. "We have Christmas movies to watch!" Amy took the clothes and headed to the bedroom, Kamilah following her.

"Is this okay?" Kamilah asked, closing the door. "I can send everyone home, if you'd rather be alone."

Amy kissed Kamilah. "Kami, this is perfect. Thank you so much."

Kamilah held Amy in her arms. "I'm sorry, for all I put you through," she said to Amy. "I wish that I had never asked... Anyway, I just want you to know that we have our own little family. Here. And it's the best family."

Amy held Kamilah tightly. "I love you. This isn't your fault, I should've said something sooner. It's just hard, being so fucked up. I don't think I'll ever move past it. But I am grateful for you, and our family, and for nights like this."

"GUYYYSS," Lily shouted from the living room. "Hurry up!!"

Amy and Kamilah laughed. They changed into the clothes Lily had handed them, looking as festive as their friends.

They walked back out to the living room, smiling.

"Before we watch movies," Kamilah said, "I'd like to make a toast."

The group grabbed their glasses. "To the family we choose," she began. "The ones who are there when things get hard, the ones who you want to share your happiest moments with, the ones you'll pick over and over again, until the end of time. To each of you, who I have chosen ardently to be my family. I will lay my life on the line for each of you, and I know you'd do the same for me. And finally, to Amy, for showing me that my family has been with me all along, and I am blessed to have each of you by my side, come hell or high water."

"Hear hear!" said Adrian, as they all clinked glasses.

The grouo spent the rest of the evening watching movies, eating cookies, exchanging presents. The night was filled with lots of laughter and love, and Amy's heart was happy. She was so grateful for her friends, thinking back on how far she had come since she moved to New York.

As the party died down, their guests slowly nodded off, the nog getting the better of them. Amy stood on the balcony, looking out over the city.

"What are you thinking, habibti?" Kamilah asked, wrapping her arms around her love.

"Honestly?" she asked. "I'm still shook up by everything that has happened. I left them behind, and pushed all of my emotions down. But, now they're back. And I don't think they're going away as easy, this time."

"What emotions?" Kamilah asked, holding Amy close to her. She could hear the girl's heart beat, it was calming.

"Inadequacy," she said. "I feel like nothing I do is good enough. In work, in my relationships, even with myself. And I feel guilty. Like, everything that goes bad is somehow my fault. I don't feel worthy of love or kindness. It's hard to accept that, from you, or our friends. I love that you love me, but... I just doubt it so easily. If I do something that makes you angry, I worry that that's it. That you'll be done with me. That your feelings toward me could just change, on a dime. I know how foolish it sounds..."

"No, baby," Kamilah reassures her. "It isn't foolish. I understand trauma, I've had my share. I know it takes time, and sometimes it never really heals. I'm here, forever. I will reassure you of my love for you every day. Whatever you need, my love. You are my number one priority."

Amy hugs Kamilah wearily. "Let's go to bed," Kamilah says, picking the girl up. Amy laughs.

"I love you," Amy tells her as she carries her to the bedroom.

"I love you too," Kamilah assures her.
