warnings:none! i already had this concept done so this was perfect. thanks for all the family requests🩷
the soft hum of excitement filled the media room as caitlin stepped up to the podium, still slightly flushed from the fever’s latest victory. this wasn’t just another media session, though. tucked against her hip, wearing a miniature version of caitlin’s fever jersey, was bella, your one-year-old daughter.
from your spot near the back of the room, you couldn’t stop smiling. bella had insisted on “going with mama” after the game, her chubby hands reaching up for caitlin until she gave in. caitlin had always been a sucker for bella’s big eyes and determined little pout, and you loved her even more for it.
“alright,” caitlin started, adjusting bella on her lap as she settled in behind the microphone. “let’s get started.”
before the first question could even be asked, bella let out an excited babble, her tiny hands reaching for the microphone.
“oh, you’ve got something to say?” caitlin teased, holding the mic closer to bella.
“ba! ba-da-da!” bella exclaimed, her voice amplified across the room. the reporters chuckled, a few snapping pictures of the sweet moment.
“i think she’s breaking down the pick-and-roll for you guys,” caitlin joked, glancing over at you with a grin. your heart melted watching her balance being a professional athlete and an amazing mom all at once.
the questions finally began, but bella wasn’t interested in sharing the spotlight. every time caitlin answered, bella would chime in with her own babbling commentary.
“yeah, we really focused on improving our defense this week—”
“da-da-da!”
“—and it paid off tonight. right, bella?” caitlin asked, her tone amused.
bella clapped her hands, clearly proud of herself, and leaned forward to grab the microphone again. “go! go!” she shouted, causing another wave of laughter.
from the back of the room, you watched the whole scene unfold with pure adoration. caitlin’s face lit up every time bella babbled, and you could tell she wasn’t the least bit bothered by her daughter’s interruptions. if anything, she seemed to love it, letting bella’s antics steal the show.
finally, one of the reporters asked, “caitlin, how does it feel to share moments like this with your daughter?”
caitlin looked over at you, her eyes softening. “honestly? it’s the best part of all of this. basketball is great, and i love it, but moments like these—being with my family—they’re what make it all worth it.”
bella, as if sensing the sentimentality, patted caitlin’s cheek and then leaned toward the mic once more. “mama!”
the room erupted in laughter, and caitlin let out a playful sigh. “and i guess that’s bella’s way of saying we’re done here. thanks, everyone.”
as caitlin stood and made her way toward you, bella’s tiny hand reached out in your direction. “mama,” she said again, this time looking at you.
“she’s definitely a natural entertainer,” you teased as caitlin handed bella over to you.
“just like her other mom,” caitlin replied, pressing a kiss to your temple before ruffling bella’s hair.
you laughed, watching as bella turned to wave at the departing reporters, still babbling happily. if this was life with caitlin and bella, you wouldn’t change a thing.

Fam Out 3 - Sophia Laforteza
Sophia Laforteza X Reader
Synopsis - Your girlfriend finally finds out why she is SO delighted with your "family moments"
Genre – Fluff
a/n - Wow, Part 3, I guess I'll have to keep going until they actually have a family (oops, spoiler) <3 (request)
part 1 part 2 part 3
The stadium was huge, everything looked beautiful and the atmosphere was exciting. Sophia made sure you accompanied her and the Kats to watch the Rams game, and even though you knew you were going to be the photographer of the night, you wouldn't turn down a night out with your girlfriend.
After taking several photos and record countless videos for tiktok, you were finally seated, your hands intertwined with Sophia's, watching the game. You didn't watch many games, your work took up a lot of your time, but you always liked to watch a match or two when you had free time.
Your concentration was soon interrupted with Sophia squeezing your hand twice, and you knowing what it means, immediately looks at your girlfriend.
"Something wrong, my love?" You say, your eyes interspersed between your beautiful girlfriend's face, and what was happening on the field.
"Can you get more drinks for me and Yoonchae, please?" She says, leaning in and leaving a lingering kiss on your cheek, for a moment you felt dizzy.
Reluctantly taking your eyes off the game and looking at your girlfriend's smile, you smiled and gave the Filipino girl a quick kiss on the lips.
"Of course, beautiful." You stood up giving a friendly wink to Yoonchae, who laughed at your antics.
Waiting for your turn to order, you notice a woman right behind you, assuming she was waiting too, you didn't worry about it, at least not until the stranger patted you twice on the back, making you look back.
"Hello." She said.
"Hi." you said with a polite smile, turning back to the front.
"Ah, so..." The stranger continued, making you once again look back. "I saw you when you walked in, you're very beautiful."
"Thank you." You said, at some point she would understand that you weren't interested in whatever she was going to say.
"I was wondering if you don't want to finish watching the game with me and my friends?" She said biting her lower lip.
The girl had brown hair and green eyes, she was much shorter than you, and now that you noticed, it looked like she was very close to you.
"I don't want to, sorry, I have a girlfriend." You said, turning around again and seeing that it was your turn to order.
You said everything you wanted and waited patiently, taking the money out of your wallet.
"Well, I'm not seeing her here, so maybe she doesn't need to know." The girl says, putting both hands on your shoulders, making you jump and instantly take her hands off you.
"Look..."
"Mom, why are you taking so long? Mommy's worried about you."
Both you and the woman looked shocked. Of course, for different reasons. The woman was shocked that you apparently had a daughter, who appeared to be a teenager, while you appeared to be only twenty or twenty-one. And you, well, you just wanted to know why the hell Yoonchae was calling you mom.
"Oh, who are you?" Yoonchae says, looking at the woman.
"Do you have children?" The woman asks, disturbed by the situation.
"Yes, she does! Why? Do you think I don't look like her because I'm Asian? That's pretty racist, you know?" Yoonchae said defensively.
Now, in this situation, you and the guy behind the counter were just watching the whole mess.
"What's going on here?" Sophia arrives suddenly, wanting to understand the situation.
"Mommy, this woman is hitting on mom, and she's still insinuating that I'm not your daughter!" Yoonchae said like a spoiled child, honestly, you weren't understanding anything.
"WHAT, NO! Sorry, I didn't know she was married, and I'm not racist either. I'm sorry, I'm leaving, I'm sorry."
The woman ran away, while Sophia and Yoonchae let out a laugh. You didn't know it before, but now you were sure you were surrounded by crazy people. Taking her drink from the tray, Yoonchae looked at you and said;
"So "mom", what did you think of my performance?" The younger girl took a sip of her drink quietly.
"Are you crazy? What was it all about?" You say, a laugh escaping your lips.
"You can't think a bitch is going to hit on you and I'm not going to do anything darling." Sophia said, grabbing your cheeks with her fingernails and stealing a kiss.
Grabbing her drink next, the Filipino girl chuckled as she walked back with Yoonchae to they places. Leaving a very perplexed Yn behind.
"COME ON BABY, YOU'RE LOSING THE GAME!"
It was a cold day, and after much urging from Sophia and (mostly) Yoonchae, you found yourself driving towards a store to buy Christmas decorations for the Kats' house. It was still November, but the girls were pretty excited about it (Your girls in particular). So here you were, pushing a shopping trolley that would soon be full of things chosen by the euphoric girls who walked in front of you.
Sophia would put things she thought were beautiful in the cart, asking for your help on the shelves she couldn't reach, and even making you hold some up high to see if they matched what she was machining in her head. Meanwhile, Yoonchae disappeared and came back soon after with something completely random asking the traditional question, "Can i have this?", receiving some "yes" or "no" from Sophia.
"Okay, what do you think of that one?" Sophia showed a small Santa, probably to put on top of some shelf.
"He's cute." You say, making a point of paying attention to the details, after all that seemed very important to Sophia.
"Yn, can I have this?" Yoonchae shows a simple snow globe, a small house with a few trees in the midst of a large amount of snow.
"Of course." You say, without losing the smile that the younger girl gave you.
After paying for things, you were heading to the car with more bags in your hands than you could count. Sophia waiting for you to leave the bags in the car so you could carry a huge, heavy box with your girls' chosen Christmas tree. Anyone looking from the outside would feel sorry for the young girl carrying so much weight, but oh man, you couldn't love it more.
Driving home, Yoonchae slept peacefully in the back seat, while Laufey played softly through the car's speakers. Your free hand caressing Sophia's thigh while you both had the most beautiful and true smile in the whole world.
"Are you okay?" You asked as the car pulled up to a stop.
"Better impossible." Sophia says looking into your eyes, leaning over and stealing a kiss.
After assembling all the decorations in the Kats' house, you finally got a rest. With the kats out and about to buy food, you and Sophia had some time to yourself. Enjoying every second with a make-out session, you had Sophia sitting on your lap, her legs on either side of your thighs, their hands ruffling your hair, while you had your hands on the Filipino girl's thighs, your back resting on the headboard.
"I think I finally understood why I love our moments with Yoonchae so much." Sophia said, interrupting the kiss, making you lower your lips towards the black-haired girl's neck.
"I thought it was because you loved us." You said in a playful tone, momentarily stopping the kisses and looking at the woman on top of you.
"That too." Sophia said, rolling her eyes with a giggle. "But the main reason became very clear after the last few days." Said the Filipino girl, taking your hands and intertwining with hers.
"And that reason is..." You said, waiting for her to complete.
"I want to have a family with you." She said, looking into your eyes.
For a minute, you were speechless, but soon you regained consciousness, and with a smile on your face, kissed Sophia passionately.
The kiss was full of love, a kiss that conveyed security, a non-verbal way of saying that the desire to have a future together was mutual. When you stopped the kiss, you saw tears in Sophia's eyes, you seemed to be hypnotized by each other, and in sync, you both thought you wanted it to last forever.
"I want to spend every day of my life by your side, did you hear?! I want to build everything with you." You say, kissing Sophia's tears and then looking at the beautiful woman in front of you.
"I love you, Yn!"
"I love you much more, Sophia."
OMG, part three, that's a lot.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it, and Christmas is near, maybe some Christmas story ideas...

No. I wasn't missing the point of most criticism. Literally, I saw post after post of people saying they wished the characters could be mean to each other. Some posts were more specific, like "I don't like Taash," (and I'm sure you can imagine what THAT'S about) and some were more ambigious but cited DA2 and how everyone was bitchy toward each other.
I honestly don't care where you work and what you do, because hopefully most of us after the age of 30 have experienced an adult job where we have to be reasonable with our coworkers, even if we strongly disagree, or outright dislike them. I had the suspicion that most people who think that there is "no conflict," or "low conflict" or "bad writing" in this game haven't experienced this kind of setting in any capacity. What I'm now hearing is that you might have, but you didn't absorb any of the dialogue, or switch out your party to listen to banter, which is an essential function for picking up information in any DA game.
I walked around Arlathan with Lucanis and Harding, and they have a whole ongoing conversation in which she threatens him with one of her special arrows. And he agrees that if Spite should take him over, she should do something about it. Harding isn't frightened, because Harding isn't a pushover, but she's not taking any shit either. Did you walk around with just the two of them right after recruiting Lucanis? Did you frequently visit the rest of the companions so that you could see just how much Lucanis and Davrin *didn't* get along? Neve mentions what sounded like a knock-down drag out fight.
**Just because this isn't explicitly mentioned to you doesn't make it bad writing - it means you haven't had the time we had with Inquisition to play the game over and over and switch out your party so you can see everyone's interactions with each other. You will actually have to play the game multiple times and switch your party out a fair amount in order to see these interactions. Or wait for people to post them to tumblr. You can complain about how unfair this is, or remember that Inquisition has 10 years on this game, and it's been out for just shy of a month.**
Why in the absolute fuck would Davrin manufacture conflict between himself and someone he could easily conjecture isn't pro-slavery based on the fact that within five minutes he could find out she's from Dock Town, she's a private investigator working with the Shadow Dragons, and LITERALLY WHEN YOU GET ONTO THE DOCK WITH HIM, her first priority as she's running back to Minrathous is to say "if the dragon wrecks havoc, the Venatori will take over." Davrin isn't an idiot, he could pretty well surmise that she's not "pro slavery" with only the barest of interactions and Rook saying "yeah Neve's cool."
Why would Neve yell at you? Why is it bad writing for the writers to give Neve a personality you don't agree with, because you're uncomfortable with how she reacts? Neve's an adult who is used to working on her own and people not showing up for her - she says this MULTIPLE TIMES - it's actually a large arc of bonding with her, as a friend and a lover. She's not going to scream at you, she's so far past the point of being loud about disappointment, she's on the other side, for one, and for another, she does in fact understand that the entire North of Thedas is on fire and blighting Treviso is pretty fucking bad when it has no major defenses. Rook doesn't endlessly apologize. She came back after a short pause and while I didn't have her healing abilities after that, it didn't take long for me to boost my bond with her back up and feel like we were friends again.
This honestly feels like you're having a personal reaction that you need to examine, and it's not something to do with the writing, since the game mechanics and the dialogue don't actually bear out what you're putting down here.
All of the companions who have conflict initially have to figure out how to trust each other and it sometimes takes most of the game for them to do that. If you didn't spend the time listening to their banter as they work their way through it, that's not Bioware's problem. That's you. And...I don't want to have repeated conversations where I go into Emmrich's (my romance) room and "vent"? I didn't do that with Cullen. I didn't do that with Anders. Why would it suddenly be a thing here? But if you listen in to people's conversations, they do express dismay and doubt and fear about the various quests they've been on. Again, it feels like you didn't spend the time eavesdropping or taking people out and listening to banter.
I have no idea what you're talking about with flirting. I flirted with every companion at first even though I knew I was running for Emmrich, and all of them responded according to their personality. I romanced Cullen in Inquisition, and he was pretty quiet initially, until you get to Skyhold, and similarly, most of the companions here retain a certain reticence until the game progresses. But if you're looking for people who get flustered - Lace and Bellara absolutely do! And Emmrich isn't flustered, but he's taken aback a few times before he collects himself and flirts back - though whether you'd actually recognize it for flirting, I'm starting to wonder. The fact that you can't tell with Neve is actually making me tilt my head at the screen, and I say this as a self-confessed disaster who is very very bad at knowing someone is interested. Even I can tell what's going on in DA romances.
This is probably a lost cause, but I urge you to either spend time playing the game again, or watch someone else who really loves DA (and is Veilguard positive) play so that you can watch without being in the thick of it, and hopefully experience more dialogue and different choices.
No, I'm not done yet, I'm house sitting and she left me snacks and soda and not even god could keep me from venting my spleen at this point.
"I wish the companions were meaner to each other in this game, like in DA2."
While I think there's a larger argument to be made discussing the similarities between DA2 and Veilguard, I need everyone to get so close to me right now about a glaring difference:
DA2 involved a ragtag group of assholes with their own agendas coalescing around Hawke's personality or exchange of favors. There was no larger "goal," except maybe Varric's expedition - everything else is encountered as circumstance. You wend your way through your companions' stories while a city winds ever tighter into itself, a spring about to literally explode.
There's zero reason for these people to be nice to each other. They have no point in being around each other except Hawke. They can bitch at each other all they like.
Rook becomes Varric's second in command (I've seen one post say it's about 6 months before the events of the game) with an explicit purpose: find and stop Solas. Harding and Neve are recruited as experts in their respective fields for this particular goal. When it all goes to shit, Neve recruits another expert, Lucanis, to deal with the fallout, and Harding finds Davrin, *also* an expert in his field (monster hunting). When Rook has to make a particularly consequence heavy decision, two more are added to the crew: Emmrich (Fade expert) and Taash (dragon expert). All of these people are extremely competent, and know from the jump that they have one particular goal in mind.
They join ready to work together on Day 1 because if they don't, there's simply no other alternative. It's lights out. Even when they mistrust each other, the direness of the situation is not lost on them. Infighting serves no purpose. That's why the struggle is directed inward: clean up your own house, so we can move as a single unit.
Honestly the fact that what people took away from this game was "I wish my friends were meaner to each other" and not "wow, I wish we all worked together to keep evil dictators from taking over" is fucking mindblowing when I sit back and reread this.

blue lock boys playing mario kart
summary: hc’s of bluelock boys n’ how they play mario kart!
warnings: none
includes: rin, sae, nagi, bachira, chigiri, reo, isagi, shindou, kaiser
Rin:
He plays as blue shy guy! He doesn’t play often, only when you force him to, and yet he wins every single race. At first, he wasn’t competitive while playing at all, acts all chill and claims he “doesn’t care” if he wins the game or not. Although the more you guys play the more heated he begins to get when objects are thrown at him….he hates those damn bananas.
Sae:
He’s so lame and plays as Mario. He literally does not care to play. Does he win at all? Absolutely not. He best stick to soccer. The poor guy absolutely sucks at mario kart. He’s lucky to get in even 5th place. When you first asked to play, he was very “how hard can it be?”. He would never admit that the game is growing on him and the more he plays the more he wants to win. Just like his brother, he can’t stand those damn bananas.
Nagi:
He plays as dry bones! Mr. gamer is so not competitive yet wins every single game. He’s like rin, except he is actually chill and doesn’t care if he wins. The game is “too easy” for him and he gets board after 2-3 races. He’d buy you the expansion packs if you’d ask! It pisses u off how good he is, you can’t seem to win a single game. :(
Bachira:
He plays as toadette! He’s so competitive it’s not even funny. He always tries to mess up your race and things it’s hilarious to whip you out on shells. He 100% sticks his tongue out while playing. His concentration is crazy and no amount of distraction will get to him. Does he ever win? Absolutely not.
Chigiri:
He plays as princess peach! (obvi). His favorite map is rainbow road and he insists you play it every time. He’s not the best player, he never switches his kart and never cares to switch the stats on it, then gets upset when he loses yet again. He whines and makes a scene when he’s knocked down a few places by other players. How often does he win? 50% !
Reo:
He plays as Waluigi! He has a whole set up and is lowkey a crazy mario kart player. He buys controllers specifically for the game and buys all the expansion packs and new tracks. He’s not all the good but will spend hours playing and “practicing” during his free time. He loves when you will go over n’ sit on his bed and play with him for hours. He calls it “bonding time”. (I hc him as a very shy lover and is afraid to let things get awkward so it’s a good way to break silence and keep eachother distracted!)
Isagi:
He plays as toad. He is SO competitive. Also sticks his tongue out while playing. He takes a long time to choose a cart and customize it to each track he plays. He truly thinks it makes a difference for every track. When he falls behind or looses he will always blame it on the kart and not his actual skill. How often does he win? 50/50.
Shido:
He plays as bowser. He claims he isn’t competitive but you can see it in his focus on the game. Yells at the screen when players pass him. He’s broke too many controllers to count. You’ve had him start to bring his own controllers so he doesn’t break yours :( He’s honestly not good at all but likes to think he is! He’ll blame his loss on something stupid then say “one more game”, for the twelfth time.
Kaiser:
He plays as king boo. Honestly could care less about the game but plays it to make you happy. It’s infuriating how good he is at the game, how did he get so far ahead? He plays in complete silence, doesn’t say a word while maintaining the most straight face the entire time. After he wins, he’ll make some snarky comment and ask if you’re ready to give up. Twenty races later, you finally win. He didn’t let you win did he?

☁️Invisible| George Clarke
Summary: you have a crush on George, but you don't believe you're good enough for him, little do you know you're just his type.
It wasn't unusual that you were the last person someone picked, whether it be for a teams in games or dates; you were the black sheep. You were outgoing, a bubbly person but was shy at the same time. You'd recently joined content creating and started on TikTok, expanding your taste palette for new ideas you came across a guy name George, he posted funny skits and impression videos, although you weren't the type to do those things, his content inspired you to create something new. You decide to follow him.
You post a haul of your shopping trip to b&m, showing your followers the new things and dupes along the way, you were an eye for bargains and anything similar to the expensive price tags. Racking just over 70,000 followers in just a short few months you were invited to a pr event with White Fox. A brand that you'd never personally purchased from but you did love their products, you accepted through your management and agreed to vlog/promote the brand at the event.
You were so excited, your first Pr opportunity. Tears form in your eyes from joy as you make a video "hey guys i have some exciting news! I've just been invited to my first pr event with White Fox, I'm going to vlog my whole experience and break it down for you guys along the way, I'm so grateful to be able to have these opportunities thanks to you guys watching!" You say with beams of happiness as you sign off the video and upload it.The event was 3 days away so you had time to prepare. You placed your phone on charge whilst you did the laundry, a time you like to take off social media and block out the outside world, although it's your job.
After your small detox you open up your phone, lots of TikTok notifications flooding through with congratulations when two stood out to you.
@georgeclarkeey liked your video
@georgeclarkeey started following you
Your eyes widened in shock, a creator you took inspiration from had followed you, you wasn't sure why all your content being girly related but non the less you were buzzing. You responded to a few comments on your video for a while as you sipped on an iced coffee, when a message popped on your phone.
@georgeclarkeey: "hey sorry for the random message, I saw your video about your pr event and I just wanted to firstly congratulate you on it, you're doing really well! Also I am aswell invited to the event, wonder if you'd like to meet there? Don't want it to come across weird haha"
Your mouth ran dry, a sense of shock and excitement overboard your body, how could someone like George Clarke want to meet me you thought, you were never people like George's cup of tea, the lonely kid in school who'd eat alone and now a big creator asks to meet you. You hesitate to reply incase you make a fool of yourself, strumming the confidence to reply.
You: hi! aw thanks for that, I appreciate it! It's been a shock to the system to say the least haha, I'd love to meet up, I'd know nobody there apart from my management so you'd do me a solid!"
You smile into your phone like a schoolgirl with her first crush, George was undeniable attractive he had a big girl following and everyone went crazy for him. You were quite fond of him yourself to say the least. @georgeclarkeey: "no problem at all, it's always a shock when you get your first but honestly the only way from here is up, would you like to meet at the event or beforehand? A coffee or something?"
You: "a coffee sounds great, let me know where and I'll be there, thanks for being so kind"
@georgeclarkeey: "perfect! I'll text you a coffee shop closer to the event so we won't have far to walk afterwards also it's my pleasure! Nice to see some other varieties of content surfacing, your contents lovely to watch"
Shut the front door. THE George Clarke telling you your contents lovely to watch? You're kidding. The world seems fake right now, so many emotions rushing through you.
You: "Thankyou George, it means a lot, I've took a lot of inspiration from your videos to try and open my confidence up a little, so you could say your contents helped me in ways to boost my career"
You continue to chat, getting to know eachother.
-
Day of the White fox Event
Your nerves were setting in, your first event meeting new people and also meeting up with George. You opted for a some casual clothes, baggy mom jeans and a white crop top with a flannel shirt over the top. Your makeup as basic as normal, a touch of brow gel, a pop of mascara and some skin tint. Nothing major. You make your way into London to meet George, he'd text you the address beforehand, a 2 second walk from the venue. Your hair cascaded over your shoulders as the London breeze hit your skin, a mix of crisp and warm air. Just as you get to the coffee shop your stomach sinks, what if he doesn't like me? Thinks I'm weird? The battles of your overthinking brain looms and looms as you step in, there he was, blue eyed and handsome.
His eyes shoot up as you walk through the door, a warm smile makes it way over his face "hey, glad you could make it" he says arising from his seat to hug you, a mixture of mint and aftershave flooded your nostrils as you embraced him for a hug "I wouldn't have missed it for the world, how are you?" You reply sitting down "ah I'm good, busy but good, yourself?" He replies "same really, not so much as busy as you probably but yeah, I'm excited" you smile, his gaze wandering down to your lips as you spoke as shivers tingle down your spine. You talk over coffee for a while before heading to the venue.
"You ready?" He says with a warm smile opening the door for you "I think so" you chuckle nervously "you'll be fine, don't worry I'm here if you need anything" he says with a reassuring tone which wrapped around you like a warm blanket of safety. You give your names to the people at the desk and collect your lanyards, you pull out your phone to introduce your video.
"Hi guys, I've just arrived and the nerves are kicking in, I'll try to film as much as I can for you all, trying to sink into the reality of it all along the way and make new friends which I seem to have-" you were interrupted by George poking his head in "she's already made one friend, well should I say I practically befriended her" he chuckles placing a hand on your shoulder as he walks to grab a drink. You put your phone away, saving the footage, George Clarke in your video would be a big shock to your fanbase for sure.
The night goes on and you meet new creators, have interviews with some labels and tell everyone on how you got into influencing, the night couldn't have gone much better; George was there to reassure you when you felt nervous and just guide you through the whole experience which you were thankful for. There was an after party, but you opted not to go.
"Leaving so soon?" George asking raising a brow, "yeah sorry, parties aren't really my thing, Thankyou for tonight George I appreciate it a lot" you say smiling "we could go grab a drink elsewhere if you wanted, just me and you?" He says, you were taken a back by his response that he wanted to leave the event, to be with you, in a strange turn of events you'd never imagine something like this would happen, you weren't up to beauty standards nor were you a model, why did he want to go for a drink with you? "You don't have to, I wouldn't pull you away from your friends" you reply "you're not, you're my friend and I want to have a drink with you" his sweet smile returns, a gaze of sincerity plastered over him like a genuine interest in you loomed inside him "okay, maybe just a quiet one" you say as he nodded, you said bye to everyone and left, scoping out a bar to indulge in.
You chatted for a while at the bar, like you'd known eachother a life time and not just a few days, you got on like a house on fire, taking in eachothers interests. It's like no matter what you said, did or how you acted George would always match your energy and it comforted you. After a while you call it a night, it was getting late. You walk out the bar as you book an Uber home
"I've really enjoyed today, Thankyou" you say with a soft smile "me too, normally I hate pr just because of the social interaction, but you've made it easy to bare" he says laughing "well atleast I could be of some use" you retort, silence looms over you as George stares at you for a little longer than normal "can I kiss you?" He says nervously, your eyes widen "really?" You say shocked "is that okay?" He says "yeah-just nobody's ever wanted to kiss me" you say nervously "why not, you're really pretty, funny and easy to get a long with" he says brushing his hand against yours, with a soft smile as he cups your chin and places a soft kiss onto your lips, a magnetic shock goes through you like it was something you had longed for a while, a connection that felt so right. You pulled away and stared at eachother for a minute as you sink in the reality of what had just happened. You exchange numbers and arrange to meet up again, turns out your worrying was for nothing, you were just his type.

If we take a look at the disaster Hyrules
It gets pretty clear that Hyrule's Hyrule has by far the least amount of problems
Like yeah no hate towards people who portray his Hyrule as a disaster but it really isn’t that deep
(I love the fanfics anyway and it is just fiction so people can do whatever they want … it just isn’t very realistic but still interesting)
There are enough settlements to avoid inbreeding (probably even having the most out of any Zelda game)
The forest population is not great but could be a LOT worse (it is not as bad as it could be … grass also helps with creating good places for trees to grow in and there is more then enough in adventure of link)
And the NPCs don’t hate him or anything they are just a bit weary (wanting something in return and not letting a random stranger into your house is basic common sense people)
They don’t hate him and give him clues if they know something…even letting him heal for free
Even the one village that wouldn’t let you in was fine with you the second you told them that you had buggo's permission
The monster might be a problem but certainly not the people
The whole game also showed no implications of food shortages or anything like that
No cursed soil , no cursed water (honestly I like to believe that Hyrule just thinks the water is genuinely cursed because he can’t swim)
No dying trees
And while you could say that there are no animals it also has be considered that it is a game that has trouble with interactions as a whole
They probably just didn’t bother with anything not gameplay related
Ganon was already dust and while Hyrule certainly was hunted down
If you stay in a town there is no interaction implying that monster are trying to destroy the town just because you are inside it
But also the same happens in any other Zelda game like obviously monsters are outside and spawn to beat you up (I know the disappointment of not getting into castle town in ocarina of time lol)
But that doesn’t mean that Hyrule has to live in permanent danger
Heck he can just live in the sole town to have a bridge so that even if monster try to get him they would not be able to cross
Even if the century that passed was the equivalent of doomsday or something…
Windwaker , Breath of the wild and even twilight princess also had disasters over 100 years ago (ocarina of time , the flood , calamity ganon )
In fact Breath of the wild recovered perfectly from absolutely annihilation and a loss of monarchy
And only twilight princess has canonical cursed land that affects the Flora and fauna
Why nobody portrays twilight’s Hyrule as having a very bad time with food and hunting will always be a mystery
His Hyrule essentially is Lorule 2.0
Windwaker has the canonically worst recovery of all timelines because the flood took lots of land to live on and to farm on
The entire sea has no fish and remaining people are very few in comparison to Hyrule’s twenty what towns
Like literally only having four settlements (rito included) is not a good thing
Having no hero spirit
No monarchy means nothing as we see in wild's Hyrule but peaceful anarchy with a few leaders in every settlement is not ideal
The goddesses also left
And so did their blessings
Like wind's ganondorf literally just wanted land lol no dominance because the remaining settlements are not worth it
And still the timeline where everything that could go wrong did go wrong still went and figured stuff out
And we have Spirit Tracks as proof that even this Hyrule was able of surviving
#linked universe#lu wind#lu legend#lu time#lu four#lu warriors#lu sky#lu wild#lu hyrule#lu twilight#twilight princess#is#lorule#2.0#wind waker#has the worst recovery rate#adventure of link#is not as bad as people make it out to be#breath of the wild#is also pretty well off#ocarina of time

Buck sat in his seat at the LA Lakers game that Tommy had given him tickets to. Tommy had ended things a week before the tickets were for so naturally Buck was at the game alone. He had planned to go with Tommy, so he had someone who actually understood basketball with him. He had requested the day off work so he could go and Bobby had given it to him. Unfortunately nobody else could get the day off so Buck sat in his seat, an empty seat right next to him.
Out of depression, and he had run out of flour to bake something to distract him, Buck had made a sign that sat folded nicely on the seat next to him. If any kind of camera came on him, he was going to be petty and reveal the sign. And he had every right to be petty after what happened. It was so out of the blue. So Buck sat in his seat and just waited. He barely watched the game cause he didn’t have any interest in Basketball. He had never told Tommy this during their 6 months together. Why would he? He had literally tried desperately to get into this pick-up game that Eddie, Tommy, Chim, and a few others played so that he could get close to Tommy. Sure he hadn’t gone again since that one time. He had gotten Tommy’s attention. Plus I think after maiming Eddie, nobody expected him to go again. So he never had to explain how he really didn’t like Basketball.
The game slowly went along. One team having the ball, then the other one did, then they threw it in a hoop, rinse, repeat. Buck honestly never understood why anyone would actually care about this sport. It was so boring. Give him a hockey game. Now that was something to watch. Particularly when the gloves came off.
Slowly the game kept going and Buck was worried that he wouldn’t get a chance at the pettiness he had planned for the game. Then the break in the middle of the game came. Sighing, Buck was bored and was pretty sure that nothing was going to happen when something called a Kiss Cam came up on the video screen in the middle. It started panning around to all the various seats, stopping on what would appear to be couples and they would kiss or make ‘no’ motions if they weren’t together. Then it happened. The camera came and stopped on Buck and the person sitting next to him. The person looked at Buck and started making the No motions.
Buck took this opportunity, like the petty individual he was turning into, and pulled out his homemade sign. It was on bright yellow paper with black letters. The sign read, “My Boyfriend broke up with me a week before this game so now I’m here alone, and I don’t really like Basketball that much.”
A chorus of Boo’s started to ring out around the Arena. Not sure if it was because of the sign or because of him, but Buck didn’t care. He got his pettiness out. Folding up the sign he sat back down.
Then it started. His phone started to buzz but he was going to ignore it. He was at a basketball game and even if he wasn’t having fun or enjoying it, he wasn’t going to be one of those people who spend the whole thing on their phone. The buzzing would not stop. This was going to get annoying. The game hadn’t started back up again so Buck excused himself past the people sitting between himself and the aisle out. He better get this phone stuff dealt with. Might as well just go home if he wasn’t enjoying himself.
He got into the lobby area and pulled his phone out. He was getting bombarded with text messages from Eddie, Hen, Chim, Maddie, basically everyone at the Firehouse. Apparently they had been watching the game during their off time and it just to happens that nothing was going on when he was on camera. So everyone saw it. There were also messages and calls from Tommy but Buck was ignoring those right now. He couldn’t be bothered to message him before so he was going to make him wait.
He started with the Maddie messages. She was his sister after all.
MH: What did you just do? On National Television?
EB: I don’t know what you mean. I just held up a sign.
MH: You just threw Tommy to the wolves.
EB: Nobody who watches this will know who is being talked about. And anyone who does will not care enough to know.
MH: Don’t count on it. You weren’t super secretive about your relationship so lots of people know.
EB: Well we will just have to wait and see won’t we.
Closing down the text thread with Maddie, he went to Eddie, the next most important person in his life right now. It would have been Tommy but that ship sailed a week ago.
ED: That was brave.
BB: I was out of flour. And I was hurting so I decided to channel it.
ED: I wouldn’t want to be Tommy right now.
BB: Why not?”
Eddie sent over a screenshot of what looked like X or another social media site. Buck wasn’t super big on them. It showed a trending tag #LonelyLakersLad and #LakersBFBreakup and several other variants. Some of them had a lot of traction.
ED: You are going viral.
BB: Nobody who knows me would do anything like that.
ED: So you are telling me that you are 100% certain that you never hurt anyone the way you were hurt.
BB: I’ve broken up with everyone amicably as far as I am aware.
ED: And you’ve never kept in touch to see how they are feeling after things?
Buck stopped to think for a second. As far as he was aware he was fine with all his ex-girlfriends. They weren’t in touch anymore, friendship falling off the wayside, but honestly why would they do anything?
ED: Just saying. You might want to contact the recipient of your pettiness. He has been blowing up our phones here.
Buck sighed. Closed the Eddie chat and opened the one labeled Thomas. He hadn’t wanted to keep it the same as it was before the breakup. It hurt too much.
There it was, a lengthy string of texts from Tommy. Words weren’t the greatest thing you could convey emotion through. It was always up to the person reading to get the emotion you were putting into it and more times than not, it was always conveyed wrong.
TK: What the hell was that?
TK: I told you to take Eddie with you to that.
TK: And what do you mean you don’t even like Basketball? You literally forced your way into a game with me and Eddie and Chim.
TK: I know I hurt you. But that was next level pettiness.
TK: We need to talk.
TK: Please answer your phone.
TK: I’ve tried calling you a dozen times. Please just answer.
Buck knew that Tommy had called at least that many times during while he was just messaging his family and friends.
TK: I’m not mad. I swear it. I just want to talk. With words from my mouth instead of my fingers. That way its not misinterpreted.
TK: Please just answer and let me talk to you. Then I won’t bother you ever again.
Buck tapped the name Thomas, pulling up his contact details, and tapped the Call button. At least he could get this over with quickly. Maybe Trader Joes was still open so he could get more baking supplies on his way.
The phone didn’t even get to finish a single ring before Tommy answered, “Evan!”
“You said you wanted to talk Thomas,” Buck replied. He couldn’t stop the smile that came over his face when he heard Tommy call him Evan though. He also knew that Tommy was wincing on the other end at the Thomas.
“What was that all about? I was watching the game at home and I remember saying you could take Eddie and why were you there alone? And what was that sign for?” Tommy rambled. Buck just let him ramble a bunch. A thousand more questions came out of his mouth through the phone.
“If you would let me get a word in I can easily explain everything,” Buck interrupted. Tommy stopped talking for the time being so Buck took that as his time to get his side of things out, “You had just broken my heart. I was feeling petty because I had nothing else to distract me from calling or messaging you. I had spent too many days crying over you so I went to the next extreme. It was probably a little overboard but I was feeling my emotions and channeling them into something different. I didn’t want to turn back into the Buck that slept around to deal with his hurt.”
“I’m sorry,” Tommy said, “God this isn’t great on the phone.”
“Well you were the one who wanted me to call you,” Buck replied, “I was perfectly happy just texting.”
“Were you though?” Tommy’s voice was getting a little catty at this point, “I don’t think perfectly happy people do the stunt you just pulled.”
“Well I WAS perfectly happy,” Buck was just as catty in return, “Until you ended things out of the blue, no real reason except some bullshit about not being your last.”
Buck could feel the guilt through the phone at this point, “Meet me at Fleur Café. That’s close to the arena. We clearly have to talk in person.”
“Fine by me,” Buck replied. His heart started to flutter a bit cause he did want to see Tommy again, “I know you don’t live near here so I’ll get you a coffee for when you arrive.”
“I’ll be there in about 45 minutes,” Tommy replied, his voice was shaking a bit, “depending on traffic.”
Buck let Tommy end the call and then he quickly pulled up the map on his phone to get there.
***
Buck had gotten to the café after 10 minutes of walking so he waited outside for about 20 minutes. He was mildly curious about the X trend that was happening so he downloaded the X app and signed into the account he made about a decade earlier. “@ranchmanbuck” was the username he had created. He was living in Montana at the time and working on a ranch. It didn’t last long. He also only had maybe 3 posts on his account.
It took him a bit to get signed in but eventually he did and #LonelyLakersLad was still trending. Even the official account of the LA Lakers had posted about it. Seems that everyone online was either trying to find out who he was, telling him that they would date him, telling him that it will get better in the end. There was a few that were insane and threatening harm on the person who hurt him. Seeing threats of death towards Tommy by people who didn’t know him was disturbing so Buck closed that app and swore to never open it again. People online were insane.
Stepping into the café, Buck was greeted by the smell of fresh coffee and baked goods. He had grown to love the smell of baked goods since Tommy broke things off with him. It was soothing and calming. He smelled lemon loaf, and cinnamon rolls, and some savoury cheese buns. He just breathed in and then head to the counter to order, “Good evening,” Buck was always courteous to the staff anywhere, “Can I get two coffees, one black, and one two cream, one sweetener,” He looked at the baked goods. He had so much at home but he wanted something sweet right now, “And two pieces of that lemon loaf, and a cinnamon roll.”
Buck paid for his purchases and went to a table near the window to wait. He started to slowly pick apart the lemon loaf he had gotten for himself and slowly ate it, sipping on his coffee at the same time. After about 10 minutes of waiting, Tommy walked into the coffee shop. He looked around and spotted Buck. He quickly came over and sat down, “Hey,” He said.
“I got you a coffee,” Buck pushed the coffee his way, “And some lemon loaf.”
“Thanks,” Tommy took the coffee and took a sip, “You finally figured out how I like my coffee.”
“We were together for 6 months Tommy,” Buck replied, “If I didn’t at least learn your coffee order then I would have been the worst boyfriend ever.”
“OK so we need to talk,” Tommy replied, “But first I just want to let you know how sorry I am for how things went down.”
“Why did you not come back after?” Buck asked, “You just left me there. I figured maybe it was a fight that we could work through but you didn’t come back.”
“I was scared,” Tommy had his head down, “You idealized me. You didn’t see me or the things that were wrong with me. Just the good. You don’t know how it was growing up and just being abandoned by the one person who loved me, leaving me with my father. Or the first man I ever fell in love with leaving me because he decided someone else was better than me.”
“You never told me any of this,” Buck replied, “You kept your walls up and never fully let me in. I only know what you showed me. And,” Buck trailed off. Well he had him in front of him so it was now or never, “And what you showed me made me fall in love with you.”
Buck watched as Tommy’s face snapped up at those words. Buck had been meaning to say those words to him for awhile now. Since the day at the cemetery at least when him and Tommy had a funeral so that Billy Boils would lift the curse. And he did. But just having Tommy there with him made him realize that Tommy was all he needed in life from now on, “You never said that,” Tommy said.
“I mean it though,” Buck replied, “I might be brand new to this whole loving men thing. But I know what love feels like and I know what I feel for you. I realize that I may have jumped ahead a couple steps. Eddie tells me I’m an idiot all the time. And maybe I am. But I’m an idiot that loves you, Tommy.”
Tommy fiddled with his cup, “I’m just scared that you will get bored of me and leave me like everyone else.”
Buck reached across and grabbed Tommy’s hand, “I need you to learn to trust me. I won’t leave you. You are everything I’ve felt I was missing in my life. From the very first mouth static, something about you made me feel complete. And this past week has made me feel worse, like a part of me was missing. And I don’t like how that feels and I don’t want to feel it anymore.”
Tommy looked ashamed, “I love you as well. And there has been an Evan sized hole in my life that I cannot manage to fill,” Buck watched as Tommy looked up, his face setting, “Fuck it. If my heart gets broken, it gets broken,” He whispered to himself, “Evan Buckley, I know I don’t deserve it after what I did to you, but would you be willing to give me a second chance? I’m also an idiot who is in love with you and I might not deserve it but please?” Tommy’s eyes bore into Buck with intensity. This man meant every word of it.
Buck stood up, grabbed Tommy’s face and brought him into a kiss. The kiss lasted longer than either had planned but Buck was not letting go. He wasn’t certain of it but he thought he may have heard the shutter of a camera on someone’s phone. Maybe someone taking some pictures of their food. They did that a lot. As the kiss came to an end, a single thread of saliva between them, Buck sat down again, “We need to communicate better,” Buck said, “Since we want to try again, I ask that if you have problems, or if I’m jumping ahead or saying something idiotic, that you please just talk to me. We can work through these problems.”
“I can’t promise I won’t get scared again,” Tommy said, “I’ve got more trauma than you can possibly imagine. I’m not the ideal gay that you seem to have thought I am. But I can promise that if things get bad for me, I’ll do everything I can to talk.”
Buck smiled, “That’s all I want. I want to know all of you. Scars and all if you’ll let me,” Buck smiled, “Now help me eat this Cinnamon bun.”
***
6 months later, Buck sat with Tommy at another Lakers game. A repeat of the 6 month anniversary. Tommy had originally wanted to do something that Buck would enjoy, but Buck shut that down, “I enjoy being with you and seeing you happy and if it means going to Basketball games then I want to go. Just means in the winter you’ll have to get better at enjoy the LA Kings games.”
“Deal,” Tommy said. So they were in their seats at the arena. It was halftime as Tommy called it. The camera was panning around the stands looking for couples to make kiss. When it landed on Buck and Tommy. Smiling, Buck pulled Tommy into a kiss, as the kiss broke, he held up another sign just for this occasion, ‘We worked things out, so please don’t make me go viral again. #NotSoLonelyLakersLad’. Buck smiled and kept staring at Tommy. The crowd was cheering in the arena for them. Just staring into the eyes of the man he loved.

Honestly I’ve always seen Bloodbath (or the kill Zara quest) as Illario’s final desperate attempt to be swayed form his plan. It kind of reminds me of Solas and Varric’s note of him in the beginning of the game “he just needs someone to give him a different option”
Like Illario is genuinely upset about this whole thing. He thought Lucanis was dead, and we see that he was such a chronically depressed alcoholic yapper after Lucanis’ death that even though he did give the hit, he at least regretted it or it didn’t sit well with him. (I have no doubt Zara manipulated him to some extent into it, since she has her eyes on Lucanis after the Wigmaker job anyway, but neither Zara or Illario are actually explored in game). But when Illario is taking us to the boat, he makes note of saying Catarina didn’t tell him because “I would have tried to save him.” The way he says that line is in a COMPLETELY different tone than anything else he says. It’s stern and to the point, not condescending like after Illario takes out Zara and talks down on Lucanis, telling him he’s a danger and liability.
If Illario knew Lucanis was actually alive, he probably would have killed Zara earlier. And Zara obviously KNEW THIS because she didn’t tell Illario Lucanis was ALIVE for that very reason. Illario never knew about Spite. He never planned for the Ossuary. He never meant for that to happen! Zara knew that whatever Illario and she had going on would never even be close to the bond Lucanis and Illario have, and Illario would put that over power every single time.
Almost every single time.
Because he knows what he did, and he still goes out for coffee with Lucanis and the weirdo rando that saved him. And then he tries to convince Lucanis to stay away from Zara, because he knows that Zara is capable of and how not only she can, but has hurt Lucanis. (She turned his big brother into an abomination!)
WAIT A MINUTE WHO ELSE DOES THAT? Lucanis does! Except Lucanis is more direct about it. Says that Zara might come after him. Illario tries to convince Lucanis she’s in fuckass land, get him out of the situation ENTIRELY involving Antiva, the Anntam, First Talon. Yeah, there’s probably a selfish motivation, but in Wigmaker Illario is so fucking scared Lucanis is going to essentially fling himself off a cliff, there’s a genuine “heyy can you take a holiday? Can you stop being passively suicidal for me, your little cousin? Can we stop with the ‘death is my calling’ shit?”
Of course Illario can’t just go “uhh I’ll take care of it dw bro” because to Lucanis the beef with Illario and Zara isn’t merely as personal as he (and Spites) beef with her. They really just want to protect one another and get their dues.
Illario killing Zara wasn’t so much for him. I mean she kind of played him, but whatever, it didn’t necessarily affect Illario in anyway, it was for Lucanis. A way to try and appease the guilt of something that he never intended to happen to his older brother. That’s why Illario wants to be there during Bloodbath. “It’s Crow business” aka ‘WHY ARE YOU TAKING WEIRDO RANDO 1 & 2 OVER ME? I deserve to be at your side, I’ll follow you to the ends of the earth and back, why won’t you let me anymore?’
So Illario meets Lucanis and his rando friends on the rooftop. Lucanis asks him what he’s doing there- and Illario says he wants to go. He’s so desperate to go, to prove his alliance to his big brother cousin. But that’s not all. Lucanis has been gone for a year, and then left immediately. Killing and missions, being Crow’s is one of the main ways Lucanis and Illario bond.
Illario has never felt good enough. For his grandmother, for Lucanis, for anyone. That’s why he started this mess. Zara tells him Lucanis doesn’t think he’s good enough, he never will be, until he does the most Crow thing ever and cuts him out of the family line. Then finally, maybe, when his cousin’s eyes are glassy and corpse empty, will they be filled with approval.
But Lucanis is right here (with two randos)! And Illario asks him to involve him, just looking for that smidge of approval. And Lucanis says no. Ok. Cool! Maybe he just wants you safe. Fine, whatever. But you’re capable- at least you think you are.
So you ask the damning question. “You think I’m not good enough?”
And your cousin, your big brother, simply says: “Are you?”
While surely a good natured jab from Lucanis as siblings do, had Lucanis’ answer been anything even close to praise or more concern, I think Illario would’ve been fine to step out of the way. ALL he needed was Lucanis’ mild assurance/approval. Just a ‘oh no, you’re good enough. I just don’t want you getting hurt is all’
But he doesn’t say that. He simply feeds into the very insecurity that sent Illario to selling him out, the very one that Zara told him but he never quite believed until the words came from Lucanis’ mouth. ‘You’re not good enough to stand by my side anymore.’ And potentially ‘I’ve replaced you with rando 1 & 2, I don’t need you anymore’
So then he doubles down. No more playing nice cousin or big brother little brother. If Lucanis doesn’t want Illario by his side anymore- fuck it, Illario doesn’t need him. Lucanis saying Illario isn’t good enough isn’t just a blow to his ego, or self confidence/self esteem, it’s a flat out rejection. So he takes the kill from Lucanis, and essentially tells him to get the fuck out of dodge or else, and then tries to strong arm first Talon.
Lucanis never quite gives Illario “the different option.” Illario throws their bond away not because he necessarily wants to, but because he thinks Lucanis’ threw it away first, and that he’s just folding onto a frayed rope (not even mentioning how Illario crosses out Lucanis’ name in the family line, showing how he just… almost doesn’t exist. He’s gone to Illario. Illario’s so hurt by everything he just wants Lucanis gone at this point, come hell or high water.)
Lucanis quite literally says that the only way Catarina would be proud of Illario is if he kills her, and if that extends to Lucanis, so be it.
#yapping#illario dellamorte#dragon age lucanis#lucanis dellamorte#dragon age the veilguard#da veilguard#hey bro you’ve been in jail for a year wanna hang out#no lol#why#bc you kinda suck haha look I brought two new friends I don’t need you anymore#of course this is not what Lucanis means and he completely means well#but especially in that Bloodbath mission I was like uh why can’t he come with us#and then Lucanis drops ‘are you’ uh not that time wiseass#he’s crashing out#look at him look at his fuckass hair cut#like dude I’d kinda crash out too#sorry if this doesn’t make sense but it makes sense to me#TDLR; dude just wants his family to like him and he feels like he isn’t even good enough for that so he resorts to murder

Is it just me or did Vi really not get an arc this season 😭? She doesn’t resolve the fact that she places all her worth on protecting those she loves. A lot of her big emotional beats (joining the enforcers, becoming a pit fighter, finding Vander, freeing Jinx and getting imprisoned for all her efforts) happened as a result of Caitlyn or Jinx’s intervention. She has so much oldest sister syndrome she infected the narrative 😇
yes! I think it's an issue of flawed ideas and poor execution. in classic me fashion, I'll go through the whole thing to show you what I mean:
vi joining the enforcers despite everything they've done to her (killing her parents, roughing up her family as kids, chasing them down, coming into the last drop to arrest them and intimidating everyone and almost taking powder, imprisoning and abusing and starving vi for her entire adolescence) because caitlyn asked her to and caitlyn is the Most Important Person in her life right now is the exact kind of thing vi would do. I personally love how temporary the enforcer gig is, despite that going against the lore (I honestly couldn't care less), because vi's CHARACTER in this show goes against the lore. I don't care that she's supposed to be an enforcer in the game. I'm not playing a game. I'm watching a show. the vi I know wouldn't do that, it makes no sense for her character, and it really feels like that's the point. she's losing herself for the sake of what caitlyn wants in a very clever way to address whoever demanded the show be more accurate to the game (which, again, I AM NOT PLAYING. BECAUSE THIS IS A SHOW THAT'S MORE THAN CAPABLE OF STANDING ON ITS OWN) without betraying the characters. this is the kind of freedom that would have made for a truly stellar season: going where the story is led naturally by its characters rather than being trapped by a pre-determined narrative
then in vi's fight with jinx (which, fine, I guess vi *would* decide that 'jinx isn't powder anymore' means 'my sister is dead'; she's single minded like that, even if it felt rushed), there's suddenly a random child in the crossfire and vi's like oh. okay. I can't actually hurt innocent children the way I was hurt. I do, in fact, have principles, and they dictate that I intervene rather than allow this to play out. and it turns out that when the chips are down caitlyn doesn't actually care about the undercity because she risked killing an innocent child and wants to kill jinx knowing she's vi's sister (and said that jinx, a young mentally ill girl from the undercity, killing caitlyn's mother, one of the richest and most powerful women in piltover, is the same as vi's parents being killed by enforcers while fighting to end the oppressive social order they enforce. it's not.) and basically says that she thought vi was 'one of the good ones' but she's exactly like all those other animals (again, because vi refused to let cait open fire on a child), before literally gut-punching her and leaving her there. vi was right before, they're oil and water, they're too different. and now vi's lost her sister; lost cait; the rest of her family is still dead. she has no money. no power. nowhere to go. nobody to protect. what's even the point of her?
and then we reach the second act. vi has no purpose so she's like well I'm just gonna fight people for money. because she'll win. obviously. she's a mess, she's drinking all the time, she's seeing jinx and caitlyn everywhere (people really breeze over how vi sees things too - definitely to a lesser degree than jinx, but when she hits rock bottom, it's there). I love this set up for vi. it makes so much sense that putting all her energy into caring for others would end up here. like a message from the universe that she needs to learn to do things for herself or she'll always end up back in this hole. you could argue that vi not having a lot of agency and just following jinx or caitlyn around until she ends up stuck in that cell (her ✨️ prison of the mind ✨️ or whatever jinx's imaginary, out of character, ghost silco was talking about), while boring (so boring), is more of vi being stubborn and stuck in her ways and refusing to learn her lesson until she's forced to. which she was also like in season 1, except there, it was more like vi repeatedly trying to solve problems that were much too big to be punched away by punching them (vi thought jinx could brute force her way out of being traumatised), and even then, I didn't get the impression that vi cared enough about the council to actually give up on jinx because of what she did to them. vi's a brick wall of a woman. sometimes, in this bitch of a world, stubbornness is a virtue
the problem, like a lot of things that had potential in season 2, is that it's not actually followed through on. there's no self actualisation for vi. she just cares about jinx until she doesn't and then she has sex with cait (who does not actually atone for any of the shit she did btw) in the prison cell where vi's sister was just planning suicide and is currently going through with it elsewhere, as far as vi knows
I think the intention was for vi having sex with cait instead of chasing after jinx to be the first selfish thing in her life (which jinx basically told her to do, because no one hates piltover anymore even though they haven't changed at all or done anything to earn this 'meet us halfway' demand of feeling entitled to zaun's bodies for their war after poisoning those same bodies for who knows how long. jinx never called vi an idiot for dating an enforcer. in fact, she feels bad for nuking the council :( which means she's good now! 👍 because GOOD characters are NICE to piltover and only BIG MEANIES care about zaun's independence. even silco's ghost thinks it's a waste of time! apparently he was just bitter and unloved, like a child throwing a tantrum! sure. sure! why not!), but it falls apart immediately because 1) jinx told vi she's going to kill herself (vi knew what jinx was planning before she asked, you can hear the fear in her voice), which obviously takes priority - never in a million years would vi let jinx disappear like that without doing anything about it, no matter how self actualised she is, because STOPPING YOUR SISTER FROM COMMITTING SUICIDE IS A NORMAL THING TO DO. well, maybe not normal, but you know what I mean. it's not exclusively a vi-ism. it's common sense. if someone you love tells you they're going to commit suicide, you do everything in your power to prevent it. and 2) CAIT IS NOT ACTUALLY REDEEMED FROM ALL THE SHIT SHE DID TO THE UNDERCITY. yes, cait letting jinx escape was symbolic of her letting go of the obsession that drove her to that point, but she didn't actually hurt jinx (except now jinx is free to off herself because of cait, which vi would be angry about if she hadn't spontaneously forgotten what she learned in the previous scene). despite her personal vendetta, cait couldn't catch jinx to even attempt to hurt her. who she DID hurt was the undercity at large, and she has no way of making up for that. they dropped the zaun plotline like a hot potato so there's no narrative opportunity for cait to prove to vi (and to the audience) that she gets it now. that she's done being a fascist and vi isn't just blinded by her hotness (which would be a strange angle to take but that's honestly what it seems like. it's so shallow and out of place with everything going on). none of this is earned enough for vi to choose a quickie in a cell over stopping her suicidal sister from blowing herself up
TLDR; there was an attempt at an arc, which was foiled by tying it so closely to caitvi, which was tied to the politics of the piltover-zaun conflict, which was never resolved and thus made vi's arc feel unsatisfying
#arcane critical#inbox#I hope you enjoy Walls Of Text anon#it almost feels like act 1 and act 3 were written by different people#A1 wasn't perfect but they cared a hell of a lot more about setting this up than A3 did about paying it off

Hello again! This is another Rook×Lucanis story, but will be much longer than my last work! I'm not sure how many parts it will be yet as it's not complete, but I will be updating regularly!
***This story will cover the last several chapters of the game, and will be full of spoilers! So don't read if you haven't played the end and don't want to know!***
The Spirit of Determination
Nyra "Rook" Thorne is somehow responsible for the fate of all of Thedas. If she's going to pull it off, she's going to need a hell of a lot of determination. Lucky for her, she knows a guy and his demon who can help her out with that.
Part 1: The Girl with the World on her Shoulders
Fierce green eyes stared back at Rook from Varric’s old shaving mirror. She’d been told many times throughout her life that her eyes were a bit “intense” or “odd”, meaning they freaked people out. Rook’s eyes were an extremely bright green, lighter towards her pupil, and slightly darker at the edge of her iris. This could sometimes make them appear as if they were glowing, but she was no spirit or demon. Her eyes didn’t glow. Her mother, for the short time she was in Rook’s life, had always told her that they reminded her of the fade itself. Rook had no idea as to what her mother meant, until she watched the sky tear itself apart and allowed the Fade to leak slowly into their world ten years ago. To this day she wasn’t sure how her mother had known what color the Fade was, but she really wasn’t far off.
There was nothing particularly special about Rook outside of her freaky eyes and the fact that she was a Grey Warden mage. It would only be fair if that had been the case, but unfortunately, the universe didn’t seem to care about fairness. Not to mention, it turned out her gods were massive dicks.
Rook had relatively pale skin, with a light smattering of freckles across her cheekbones and nose. Thick dark eyebrows sat on her brow, perfectly matching the pitch black hair on her head. Rook didn’t make a habit of cutting or upkeeping her hair these days. That meant it hung in straight shaggy locks nearly down to her shoulders in the back, and to just shy of her chin in the front. Two pieces framed her face in front of her ears, while she kept the rest tucked behind her ears so she could see her enemies as she fought. Several long thin scars marred her pale skin around her eyes and cheeks. The dark bags under her eyes did not help with the overall unkempt look of the woman in the mirror.
I look like shit, Rook thought to herself. Though, I honestly have a pretty good excuse. A whole list of them in fact. She shook her head slightly as if to force the thoughts from her mind. Re-living all that had happened in the last several months was not helpful when trying to relax and formulate a new game plan. Thoughts like these didn’t go away easily.
She had first tried to stop Solas’s ritual only to have that fall apart and release not one, but two evil gods back into the world. Varric was injured in the process as well, all because of decisions she had made.
Then, Rook had been forced to choose between Minrathous and Treviso when the gods’ dragons had attacked both cities at once. She had been worried for a few days that she had lost Neve after Rook chose to go to Treviso instead of Minrathous, but luckily Neve isn’t a quitter, and had returned. Rook didn’t regret her decision, and she’d make it again. The number of casualties in Minrathous often made her feel sick though. Going to Dock Town was difficult.
The next big blow was Weisshaupt. Gods, she thought, so many dead wardens. Our numbers are so few now, how are we supposed to stop a blight and kill two blighted gods? Solas, jackass that he was, had made a point to emphasize the importance of getting the Grey Wardens on her side, and using them to build an army. After the events at Weisshaupt a month ago, they’d be lucky if their current force could defend a small city, let alone the world. Rook was grieving more than just for the blow to her plans for battle against the gods, those had been her fellow Wardens, her brothers and sisters in arms. Only Wardens could truly understand the trials and tribulations that came as a result of joining the order. Only they could know the soft, beckoning melody of the blight.
She wasn’t the only member of the team that suffered in the immediate aftermath of Weisshaupt. Lucanis felt he had failed the team because he was an abomination, and Davrin was grieving the same loss as Rook. He and Lucanis were at each other’s throats for a few weeks as a result, but had finally settled recently as they both worked through their pain.
There were positive things that had happened as well. Rook knew it was important to remember them if she was going to be able to put on a brave face and lead this team. At last, she had finished helping each of The Veilguard (Bellara’s name for the group that had stuck) members to battle their inner demons. Literal demons in Lucanis’s case.
While it was worth it to see her friends grow from their personal battles, Rook was completely run down and exhausted. Now they had to kill the gods before they could finish their dagger during the next eclipse. It felt overwhelming in her current state, but Rook was pretty sure it would feel overwhelming regardless of how much rest she had. These were the gods of her people’s legends, the creators of her people. Somehow, Rook was in charge of killing them now? I’m one elf! Grey Warden or not, those odds suck for me! Rook groaned internally.
Lucanis had been one of the few things keeping her afloat these days. He supported her when and where he could. Lucanis made sure she was eating enough, made sure she was sleeping more than 3 hours every night, and had a way of bringing her smile and laugh to the surface when they were deeply buried under her anxiety and sadness. Rook was tough, she had always had to be, but she was immensely grateful for him. Rook blushed lightly when she remembered the “almost kiss” in Lucanis’s room (pantry), a couple weeks before. That blush got even deeper when she thought about how truly disappointed and distraught she was directly afterward. She had seriously contemplated screaming in Lucanis’s pillow, but she restrained herself.
Even so, Rook understood Lucanis’s hesitation and fears. He had been through so much recently, including coming out of a year of torture with a demon inside him. Then Lucanis’s grandmother and one of two remaining family members died. Then that grandmother was actually alive and the other one of his two living family members (his imbecilic cousin Illario) was discovered to have plotted Lucanis’s murder and his grandmother’s kidnapping/staged murder. And the cherry on top was Lucanis having to be the one to decide his traitor cousin’s fate. He had spared Illario’s life, instead opting to lock him away after Rook suggested it as an alternative. Either way, nearly all Lucanis had experienced in the last 16 months was traumatic in some way. He needs patience and support right now, not your overwhelming desire for him, she berated herself. You know Lucanis cares, he’s shown you that. Just give him time.
Sighing heavily, Rook finally set the mirror down and rubbed her temples. Focus Nyra she chided internally. She really needed to sit down and come up with an immediate plan of action. They didn’t have long until their deadline for killing Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain, and Rook had very little in the way of an idea of how to do so. Solas wasn't being particularly helpful either. She was glad he had helped them to save the Dalish that Elgar’nan had intended to use as sacrifices, but she still didn’t trust him. There was something in the Dread Wolf's eyes, something that warned her he would betray her eventually. Varric, surprisingly, had also been unhelpful. He kept up with his usual pep talks. “You’re a wild card Rook, they’ll never see you coming” or “They don’t stand a chance against you and the team you’ve built, kid”. She appreciated the support, but this was Varric’s mission… right?
Rook was pulled from her thoughts by a knock at her door. Quirking an eyebrow, she called for whoever it was to come in. Harding tumbled in less than gracefully, looking up at Rook with a small look of embarrassment at her entry.
“Harding? What is it?”
Normally Rook would’ve laughed at Harding’s clumsiness and bashful expression, but she could tell that something was important or urgent
“Morrigan wants you to meet with her at The Cobbled Swan as soon as possible. She says she has some things she wants to discuss with you. Since things are so unpredictable now that the gods are close to finishing their dagger, she said as quickly as possible would be best.”
Harding said all of this in a rush, panting slightly from her run up the stairs to Rook’s bedroom. Rook looked at Harding with a somewhat startled expression, before saying “We should have a month before they can finish it, does she know something we don’t?” Her eyebrows knit together as she frowned, “Nevermind, the answer doesn’t actually matter I suppose. I’ll head out now,” Rooks paused briefly before adding, “On the off chance something is coming faster than we expected, make sure the team is ready to leave at a moment’s notice. We need to be ready for anything right now.”
Harding nodded firmly at Rook and turned to walk out of them room before she stopped, and spoke to Rook over her shoulder, “Be careful Rook. We need you, so don’t do anything dumb.”
Rook let out a surprised bark of laughter at that. She couldn’t really hold that comment against Harding after everything they had been through in the last few months. Rook wasn’t exactly known for having the safest plans, but they always came together at the end! Plus, they were all still alive so she was taking that as a win.
“I will Lace, don’t worry. I know what the stakes are. We have to do whatever it takes though, and that isn’t going to be safe in any version of the future.”
Harding started to turn to look at Rook, but just shook her head and said, “You’re right Rook, we do whatever it takes.” before walking down the hallway and turning to the right, no doubt heading to see Taash.
Rook immediately went to her wardrobe to change into her fighting gear. Nowhere in Thedas was safe these days, especially not for the biggest pain in the blighted gods’ asses. She finished the last buckles on her warden mage armor, and strapped on her blades. One blade was her main weapon that she used in tandem with her magic, and the other was a backup she started wearing after losing her main hand once in battle and nearly being flattened by an ogre because of it. Deciding she was prepared for anything on her journey to Dock Town, Rook walked out of her room and down the stairs towards the Eluvian.
Part 2 Coming Soon!

I've been thinking about Athena and Zeus and their whole favorite daughter again because I can see their relationship in two main ways.
The first is Athena having a "good" relationship with Zeus before God Games, Zeus treated Athena with more "love" because she was loyal and well perfect, she did what he wanted and didn't complain even if she didn't like it, and Athena was that loyal because she loved him, and he was a relative good father (emotional manipulative as hell).
The second is if their relationship abuse were already more apparent before, Zeus being a lot more controlling and giving punishments every time she crossed the smallest of lines, but only behind closed doors of course, the rest of Olympus thinks Athena is just daddy's favorite so nobody really on her side since no one likes Zeus very much, and poor Athena just having to deal with this alone and being so very obedient although partly because of love mainly out of fear of what he could do.
Honestly, I don't know which is worse on one side having Athena already having a bad relationship with Zeus is great for angst, and it's so interesting to explore, but makes Zeus finally fiscally hurting ends up being less of a shock, it's just very tragic. And on the other side having Athena who really loved Zeus and was truly loyal having him hurt her out of the blue like that is really heartbreaking because no one really wants to believe our own father could hurt us.
Anyway I don't know if I'm making a lot of sense, english isn't my first language so sometimes is hard to write down what I'm thinking, I just wanted to ramble a bit and I thought you would like to see it lol
ahhhhhhh
you know, when I first read this I stopped and stared at it for a second.
cos you somehow managed to encompass both what I'm kinda aiming for in Fighting to be Loved, where there was a lot of emotional manipulation but the physical escalation is pretty much completely new and unexpected, and what @evermorecatra and I are doing for our AU with Zeus being physically abusive already but behind closed doors. I can't even add anything to what you wrote. It's that. we're doing that.
I totally agree with your assessment of why both are tragic in their own way. I gotta love the angst of Olympus being shocked bc daddy's favorite got so horrifically hurt while Athena 100% saw it coming and wasn't surprised at all. While in the other scenario, those who got hurt were always those around her (Metis, Pallas, Prometheus, even Odysseus to a degree) while she remained unscathed. Getting not only injured but almost killed after thousands of years where you were safe must completely take you out of your reality. Like... what can you reasonably believe at that point? Poor owl. Either way she loses.
I found it made perfect sense, thank you for rambling, I really appreciate it <33

[are you happy now?]
prompt is heavily inspired after listening to “good luck babe!” on repeat. also, for aventurine’s part i had “number one girl” on repeat, too. man, i love angst songs :3 I'm unable to write a proper fic for this, as my life is already enough of a mess and I bury myself into games to keep myself sane.
Ratio and Aventurine have been secretly sleeping with each other for a while. At first, it was for release - both leading stressful lives. Eventually, it became reoccurring thing.
However, Ratio made it abundantly clear: this was just a convenient sexual agreement between them, nothing more.
Unfortunately, Aventurine had long fallen for the doctor. Ever since they first met, to the countless times they’ve been paired for projects, his teasings couldn’t be any more obvious.
Sometime later, Ratio found out and was disgusted. Not only did he harshly reject the man, but he shut down Aventurine since then, even going so far as sending a letter to Diamond not to pair them again.
Eventually, he proposed to Ruan Mei, to send a message to Aventurine.
Having already foreseen this coming, Aventurine could only smile, hand behind his back - shaking so hard he had to puncture his thumb through to stop it, hard enough for his nail to cut through his gloves and into his skin.
It was basic courtesy for the IPC to come in attendance for Ratio’s wedding, another attempt to remind Aventurine.
For all 8 of his doctorates and the years they’ve worked together, Ratio still failed to understand that Aventurine was no fool. He may be on the path to cure ignorance, yet was unaware of his own. Ironic, really.
At this point, Aventurine was numb and just went with it, even if it felt like salt to his open wound.
The wedding was extravagant, as expected of the famed scientist and doctor. So, Aventurine was told, having decided he couldn’t bring himself to attend. Not that Ratio would even want him there anyway.
“I already saw this coming doctor, no need to send me an invite,” he murmured, lying on his tub. Tears streamed down his face, not that he’d care.
Aventurine then drowns himself in work, going as far as requesting Diamond to send him as far away as possible - away from the reaches of the Intelligentsia Guild or the Genius Society, which was honestly impossible. But as someone blessed with immense luck, he got what he wanted.
Despite their existence being linked to a particular woman and a certain doctor, the catcakes have been nothing but great companions for his already broken heart. He understands now Topaz’s bond with Numby.
As he boards his ship, he thinks of the last encounter with Ratio, the man’s look of disgust and his hurtful words. Then he thinks of the last time he saw him, the good doctor hadn’t notice him, busily chatting with his colleagues. He was as handsome as ever, probably the most handsome man in Kakavasha’s whole existence.
Probably the only man he’ll ever love in his lifetime.
Smiling bitterly, he boards his ship and flies off.
-
Many, many years have passed.
Ratio and Ruan Mei have long married and collaborated on a few projects, ground breaking in every way. The renowned couple garnering accolades left and right.
The marriage was nothing but a transactional ordeal, to benefit both parties. That much was obvious.
One night, Ratio found himself awake in the middle of the night. For some reason, he couldn’t fall back asleep.
Sitting up, his eyes takes in his room. Shifting slightly, he watches the gentle rise and fall of his wife. Wife.
Turning aside, feet planted on the ground, knees against his knees, he found himself with his head on his hands.
Wife.
That’s what he wanted, right? To marry and have a wife?
Suddenly, his thoughts run to a familiar blond, small, cheeky. Hands slip past his face to the back of his head, grabbing fistful of hair.
Letting out a shaky exhale, the ring on his finger felt heavy and his heart twisted painfully.
He was supposed to be happy, happy. But why wasn’t he?
And Aventurine…
It’s been so, so, so long.
Loathe he was to admit it— who was he kidding?
He missed him.
He missed him so much.
Since that day, he’s all but purged him away from his life. All the gifts he bought, flaunting the wealth he was given some a few penchants he knew Ratio would find interesting - he’s thrown away. As though purging Aventurine’s entire existence out of his life.
And now, he’s left with nothing to remember him by.
All that remains are the memories he has of him.
This is what he wanted, right?
-
Later that day, while finalizing probably the biggest work with his wife, he felt it - Nous looking his way.
Finally, after all this time.
Everything he’s worked hard for, clinging on to desperation at some point of his life, even giving up when he burnt out from years and years of proving himself, it was all for this one moment.
And yet, why did it feel so hollow?
After years of pouring himself to be noticed, to work for a noble cause to rid of ignorance, why wasn’t he brimming with pride?
Oh.
Right.
Glancing down on his hand, ruby red hues land on a certain ring - specifically, his wedding ring.
Nous was never one to choose just about anyone, regardless of your gender, race, intellect or how noble your cause. Had that been the case, half of the universe would have been blessed by them. But, no. For them, you’d have to at least sacrifice a little bit of something in the name of knowledge.
It could be anything really - a piece of your sanity, a piece of you, some parts of your civilization, anything.
And what did it cost Veritas Ratio?
Everything.
tip me if you like it :3

oh finally an excuse to ramble about my choices and reasonings for their classpects
SMALL DISCLAIMER: i chose their aspects based on how i think they would be as trolls and not as their human counterparts, its specifically meant to play on a dynamic that is similar to their regulars selves without really BEING them in the same way. their human counterparts would probably be entirely different classes honestly
ill start with swansea, as his choice for classpect is more a way i can have a character who is well wise beyond their years without being too much older, since adults dont live on alternia. theyre all teenagers in this au. swansea could be a mind player for this to still work, but we also NEED a time player for the possibility of a successful game of sgrub, so i opted for making him a time player as its another class associated with being wise. another thing that effected my choice was the name and title associated with the sign that has the time class: tauries, sign of the unsatisfied. it just felt right (AND his role as a time player and last standing survivor with jimmy, is going to make things go a little differently from canon)
curly is another one where my choice is based on what is necessary for a successful game, i really did want to make curly a blood player at first because of his role as a leader and bonds, though what really sold me on the possibility of curly being our space player was that he is a "big picture" focused guy rather than a "itty gritty small details" guy, a trait pretty well associated with space... that, and i feel having such a necessary role to complete the game would make his upcoming loss of mobility that much more dire
AND NOW DAISUKE... sylths are healers, breath is associated with wind/air. what does that mean for the powers daisuke gets? AROMATHERAPY. BECAUSE OF HIS ASSOCIATION WITH FLOWERS. thats literally it, i just wanted him to have flower powers and smell nice. that and troll daisuke is a fuchsia blood! our poor boy is an upcoming heir to the throne, likely making him long for freedom while being forced into the role of a potential leader, something commonly associated with breath players
why is anya a page of mind? because pages are folks who have untapped potential, they have to put in so much effort to get where they need to be and may get their dreams crushed along the way. sounds familiar, doesnt it? anya is constantly belittled by jimmy for her skill set as a nurse, she fails medical school a multitude of times, and was impregnated against her will by him, u get the deal. troll anya will be a little different, shes a jade blood so rather than being a nurse she is an upcoming midwife for the mothergrub, maybe a bit incompetent when it comes to caretaking. she is still a smart cookie despite how talked down on she is by jimmy, she will definitely find her to time to SHINE eventually
and then theres jimmy, at first ur thinking huh? thief of doom? that sounds so silly. yeah at first i wasnt sure either but ill explain. the thief of doom is one who steals doom and steals with doom, for his own benefit, you tie it in a neat little bow with cerulean blood and derse? u get scormini, the sign of the martyr. one who suffers death rather than renouncing a belief or religion, a victim of great suffering. jimmys whole thing is built on being a victim, of himself, he is a victim of his own self doom and hes going to make it everyone elses fucking problem. he will kill everyone in this room and then himself, its going to be so ugly
but yeah thats basically my rough explanation for all of the choices i made, itll make much more sense the more i progress with the au
get trolled on
