“Historically womens college” like god can’t women just have one thing?? Can’t we just have women’s colleges? Like if you’re not a woman just don’t come here and if you’re here and decide you’re not a woman then that’s fine but don’t make the rest of us stop saying we go to a womens school just because you decided to jump ship and ID as non binary or whatever.

I wish so badly that skypeia wasn't a nauseatingly racist narrative that purports the colonizer's fantasy whitewashed narrative of how they saved "savages" (THEY ACTUALLY USE THAT WORD!!!!!!!!) from themselves. The part where they bring CURES to disease instead of, you know, the intentional spread of it as biological warfare that actually happened, gets me so fucking mad every time. Or when the poor poor guilty old colonizer president feels so bad and tries to give some land back and they refuse because they're too mad. Something that has never ever happened anywhere ever. ITS UNBELIEVABLY CARTOONISHLY RACIST THE WHOLE THING.
Just like the million other offensive caricatures in one piece, they do not end up being as two dimensional as they originally appear, and they and their feelings are taken seriously by the narrative. An effective story that tugs on your heartstrings in it's culmination is eventually crafted, BUT HE HAS TO MAKE YOU SO SO MAD AND UNCOMFORTABLE FIRST. EVERY TIME. WHY.
#you could literally teach a college course on analyzing the bigotry and subversion of it in one piece. THERE IS SO. SO MUCH.#i think usopp is the prime example- as his circle lips design and visual gags are directly reminiscent of historical antiblack caricatures.#yet he is a lovingly crafted complex character that has one of the most heartbreaking and compelling arcs in the series. and in general is#not a stereotype.#the other best examples to me are bon-clay- boa hancock- and lola#im particularly obsessed with lola as she interacts with nami and gifts her something that gives her power much later on.#which is the complete opposite of how their dynamic begins when lola is only shown to be a horrific sexist stereotype that is aggressively#obsessed with a man to the detriment of her relationships with other women.#i LOVE how she has this intentionally unappealing design- tries and fails to be attractive to men- is generally uncomfortable to watch- AND#THEN is shown to be deeply honorable and brave and gives nami plot important friendship.#like. it's so bad. but it's also so good.#ONE PIECE.#my posts#hating oda time#<- for blacklist

Fall is here, and nothing screams fall more on Smith's campus than the tweeting of sparrows drowned out by the ground-shaking, teeth-chattering noise and reverberation of construction. Yes, Mountain Day came and went, and the once wide and welcoming Chapin Path, where any student was once welcome to be passive-aggressively passed by a cyclist, is still shuttered. Many students have so missed that crucial part of the campus experience that they've taken to walking to class in the bike lanes along Elm Street, hoping to replicate that same thrill Chapin Path usually provides.
While many students have complained about the construction all over campus (says one junior: "I'm a liberal. I believe in investing in more eco-friendly energy sources. But maybe--maybe not here."), some have managed to live amid the disruption. "The construction noise doesn't bother me. I'm just screaming in my head, constantly," said one senior. "God knows I don't have a job lined up after graduation. I'm going to have to move back in with my parents, and they're going to ask me why I'm not gay married yet, and that's just not something I can take."
Yes, while many gripe and groan about the construction, there is an objective argument to be made here: Construction is God.
Proof:
Is that not God, streaming through the clouds that cover the sky above the early site of the Kathleen McCartney building? No doubt--God Himself casts his gaze upon Smith, and He has decreed "You shall have only one stir-fry dining hall this year. Also, the price of Celsius at the Julia Child Campus Center will be increased by a half-dollar. But fear not--you shall have a building made of ghastly timber, like the remodel of a historic home in a morally dubious HGTV series."
And so we shall.
Therefore, if Construction is the word of God, it is our duty as a once-secular (but now, clearly, blessed) school to pursue this plan. Many students have suggested lights at crosswalks, to perhaps mitigate the number of students who end up in collisions with vehicles, or even functional elevators in every house, or possibly even better pay and treatment for all Smith employees. While these are all certainly options, do they honor the word of Construction God? We think not. Smith's next project will be Holy.
Now proposing:
The Barbara Bush Center for Eat (Construction 2025-2035)
This project will take the ultimate step towards Smith's final goal of centralized dining. The Barbara Bush Center (Or Bushie, as students will affectionately call it) will occupy Green Street. Blueprints require the entirety of Green Street and all student housing to be razed to the ground to complete this construction, but ultimately, we feel as though it will be worth it. Bushie will stand ten stories tall, as it must be built to represent the time it was conceived of. Furthermore, the building will be in the exact shape and design of the Oceangate Titanic Submersible, to honor the failures of science, and encourage Smithies to do better. Bushie will serve breakfast on floors 2,4, and 7 from 6:45 AM to 7:04 AM, and after that, there will be no meals until 8:30 PM, and they will always be sold out immediately, as a way to teach Smithies about scarcity and competition. However, Bushie will serve snacks on floor 5 during the third minute of every hour of the day, just so students can internalize the importance of punctuality. Bushie will also offer fifty-seven lactation rooms throughout the building, and while it is understood that there are surely never going to be that many lactating people in need of a designated room in Bushie at the same time, these rooms will serve as a location for people with roommates to respectfully have sex with someone on the rugby team. However, all lactation rooms will be noise-transparent, because we value womxn's voices.
Finally, we would like to announce that in addition to First Tuesdays and Second Thursdays, we are beginning a tradition called Every Other Fourth Wednesday where on every other fourth Wednesday of every month, community members stand silent on Burton Lawn and practice taking a bra off of someone with one hand, supervised by the most butch members of our faculty. Members of the 5 College Consortium are invited and encouraged to attend. All skill levels are welcome.
With love from the bottom of paradise pond,
Smith College

I cannot express how frustrating it is showing up to a climate march and having to almost miss the train because one of your group members was late AND THEN seeing a ridiculous full face of make up on her. Like girl if you had time to spend on all that glitter you definitely had time to actually get to the meet up spot without being 10 minutes late. Also THIS IS A CLIMATE MARCH. WHY ARE YOU WEARING FOREVER CHEMICALS THAT ARE DESTROYING THE PLANET ON YOUR FACE. God I hate beauty culture.

Hi friends I made this overly specific uquiz if anyone wants to take it :) Elite New England liberal arts school has alumni pride association, said pride association has Valentine's Day brunch, said brunch costs $27 a head and singlehandedly writes the screenplay for Gay Knives Out. Let me roast you over it.

Going to a womens college is wild because so many of my peers insist that they’re not really women.
You come to this place, a historic safe haven for women pursuing education, and you say that you are somehow superior to us. You say “I am not a woman” as though that will help us. You claim that gender is a prison, while locking yourself into a new cell.
Someone told me that their dissertation was about how lesbians can’t be women, because they’ve rejected femininity by being lesbians. Somehow, this was framed as a good thing for the lesbians, instead of the return of the idea that lesbians aren’t real women.
When I asked why a trans man would attend a womens college, I was told that they do it because it’s ‘safer’ for them. Do they not realize how surely we are giving away our own spaces in the name of comforting others?
When I have torn my heart out of my chest and handed it to another, is it still mine?

actually trying to explain that my favorite "movie adaptation/retelling" of a classic work is Outlander (aka scifi Beowulf) is weird bc it's like, barely Beowulf, BUT it does have a Christian priest actively trying to convert the Vikings in the movie, and this is the most "yeah, the version of Beowulf we have is probably a Christian AU fanfic retelling of the original story of Beowulf, but that's also the only reason it didn't get burned by the church during that time when the church burned a lot of books, but God was probably inserted in at a later date" Beowulf adaptation that I know of, which is admittedly not that impressive (since I only know of two others, and one was technically Fine even if it was also not Beowulf), but still worth at least one accolade
#the movie is otherwise pretty generic fare for a scifi meets historic fiction#lack of interesting roles for women everyone but the protag and love interest get torched unfortunate implications of ancient aliens etc.#although if you're going to combine Grendel and Grendel's mom and The Dragon into one character#a cool space alien is at least a decent concept for the three-way fusion Grendel#also I know there's like Several scifi series/movies/stories/whatever called Outlander I just don't know the year/director right now#I also have a bad headache so I don't feel like looking it up but trust me it was a fun movie to watch#(I can look up the details if someone really really wants to see it for some reason and can't find which Outlander I'm talking about)#'twas also the only good part of the Hastings Nebraska trip when I was applying for a full-ride scholarship to the college there#very glad I did not get that scholarship and did not go to that college as a result but that's another story#oracle of lore
