Guys hear me out: Cinder had memory issues all his life, courtesy of being the EM of smoke. His memories, old and new, seem to dissolve into nothing all too often or they're foggy and hard to grasp. It's nothing too horrible, he can still function perfectly well. He's been working with this poor memory of his all his life.

But then Ras strikes the gong for the first time. And his powers get a new angrier, stronger breath to them. He finishes the fight, proud and emboldened by his strength. That evening he forgets where he lives.

Jordana, the teenage girl working alongside him, clearly struggles under the effects of magic. Her hands shake when she's even slightly tired, Cinder notices, her breathing is labored even as she only passively stands and the dark beneath her tired eyes slowly burrows itself deeper and deeper, so much so that Cinder sometimes worries wonders if it has already carved itself into her bones. Her mind dwindles, too, her memories getting murkier and more chaotic. She misuses words, changes them, forgets them. Her sentences are becoming riddles, mysterious, confusing, strange.

He doesn't think much of it. They are rivals, after all. If anything, it makes him selfishly glad. She's falling behind, moreso than he is, he's sure. He walks with pride in his step, thinking that he has a better grasp on his thoughts and memories than that little ginger twerp -- he has a lifetime of practice in remembering even when his mind doesn't want to. Out of the two of them, he's the one who's more fine.

Until he forgets his name on the battle field.

Until, for a terrifying moment, he forgets who he's supposed to be.

Until he realizes that he doesn't quite remember how his hands or face look.

Until his memory slips away from him and leaves only smoke behind.

okay this is technically a rewrite, but I like to call it an au okay so the story starts when hollykit and her siblings become apprentices, Hollypaw is trying her best And her mental leafpool tells her she’s doing great, but Hollypaw knows that she’s lying because she has the power to know what’s the truth and what’s a lie. meanwhile, Lionpaw is having a terrible time with his mentor Ashfur because he says he’s not good enough to be his apprentice and physically hurts him so when he was sleeping, tigerstar goes into his dreams and tells him to join the dark forest so he can become a stronger cat and he accepts but the thing is Lionpaw has the ability of super strength and and can’t be defeated unless he chooses to but he doesn’t know this and he almost kills Hawkfrost. while he’s training in the dark forest his brother Jawpaw Is being a bit snappy to his mentor Brightheart, she doesn’t mind this but leafpool thinks he’s better off as a medicine cat one day while he was sleeping, Tigerstar goes into his dreams but spottedleaf stops him then tells Jaypaw that his destiny is supposed to be a medicine cat, Jawpaw gets a bit angry and says crowfood i’m not gonna do that you mousebrain, he goes away also I forgot to mention he has the ability to go into anyone’s dreams, so one day he accidentally goes into Lionpaw’s dreams and sees that he’s training in the dark forest so he tells Firestar about about it and then tells to swap mentors with Holypaw because he doesn’t want to become a medicine cat, Firestar is surprised but does what he says and Lionpaw is relieved to have a kind mentor but Hollypaw isn’t so lucky because Ashfur is a terrible mentor but she’s a better hunter and Warrior than Lionpaw

this is probably a silly question or one you’ve already answered, but are all tortie and calico toms in better bones trans guys, or are you taking more creative liberties in the cats’ design? totally cool either way, it was just a thought that came to mind!

Funny enough it's just worked out that all Calico/Tortie toms have been girls and trans guys so far; Shellfur is the first cat to buck the trend and I'm not above blasting him and Fernstripe with the T4T beam

BUT I take waaaay more liberties with designs because BB's setting is soft magical! There are multiple afterlives, a new diety system, and angels can canonically "craft" new designs for kittens while working with the colors they have available.

I also, honestly, just don't care about cat genetics dhfhdjfh I regularly pick colors not seen in cats, in patterns they don't have. BB!Cats are in a bizarro universe where the evolution of cats went slightly differently, putting them on the intellectual level of chimpanzees or early man.

So, calico boys, I'm working with the awareness that they are almost always AFAB but it's a soft rule in BB, not a hard one.

Actually courage and or korodai kinda fit with Thomas O'malley the alley cat. Especially courage!

Cuz at first O'Malley wasn't romantically interested in dutchess when he flirted and serenaded her. Just saw her as a pretty face. Looking for a good time. But during the journey he actually fell in love with her. And you can tell cuz the sapphire eyes compliment was much more genuine and heartfelt the second time than the first.

I can see this same relationship growth happen between the cringe links and reader.

this read has been such a treat for me!! i mentioned this on a reblog of one of my first cress post, but for those of you who haven't seen it when i was like. 5. my library had this picture book of the biblically accurate grimms brothers rapunzel. BEAUTIFUL illustrations. i was a silly goofy little kid obsessed with morbidity and i LOVED the gory illustrations of the prince's eyes getting stabbed out by thorns and him wandering around the forest all bloody and blind. i tried to find it online but couldn't!! the closest thing to it was rapunzel by sarah gibb which isn't gloriously violent anyway. i want to see if i can hunt it down irl and let you guys know which one it is but i used to frequent three different local libraries + the school library of my primary school was basically my own playground so i can't remember where i used to read it ;-; but yeah all this is to say i'm obsessed with cress as a retelling of rapunzel by far as someone who has a long history and grew up with it <3
