Q&A FAQ:
Q: What are the consequences of a DUI conviction in Florida?
A: The consequences of a DUI conviction in Florida can include fines, license suspension, community service, mandatory increased car insurance, probation, and even jail time. The severity of the consequences depends on the circumstances of the case and any prior DUI convictions both in Florida and out.
Q: Can a DUI charge be dismissed?
A: Sure, it's possible for a DUI charge to be dismissed if the evidence against you is weak or there were errors in the arrest or testing process. An experienced DUI attorney can review the evidence in your case and determine if there are grounds for dismissal.
Q: What is the difference between a DUI and a DWI?
A: In Florida, the terms DUI (driving under the influence) and DWI (driving while intoxicated) are used interchangeably outside the courtroom to refer to driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Officially Florida law does not use the term DWI.
Q: Can I refuse a breathalyzer test?
A: In Florida, if you refuse a breathalyzer test, your license will automatically be suspended for at least one year. The length of the suspension depends on the number of prior refusals. Whether you refused or not cannot be changed. Do not dwell on this issue after the fact!
Q: What are some common defenses for a DUI charge?
A: Some common defenses for a DUI charge include challenging the legality of the traffic stop, questioning the accuracy of the field sobriety exercises or breathalyzer results, and arguing that the defendant's rights were violated during the arrest or testing process.
Q: How can a DUI attorney help with my case?
A: A DUI attorney can provide guidance and support throughout the legal process, including negotiating with prosecutors, reviewing evidence, and building a defense strategy. An experienced attorney can work to minimize the consequences of a DUI charge and help you navigate the complex legal system.
Q: How much does a West Palm Beach DUI attorney cost?
A: The cost of a West Palm Beach DUI attorney can vary depending on the attorney's experience and the complexity of the case. Some attorneys charge a flat fee, while others charge an hourly rate. It's important to discuss fees and payment options with your attorney before hiring them.

Better Late Than Never - Matt Murdock
pairing: Matt Murdock x fem!Detective!reader
Your teamwork with Daredevil to take down a dangerous gun trafficking gang leads to your life being on the line more than once.
word count: 6,280
content: hurt/comfort, two idiots in love, canon typical violence, guns, blood, car violence, forced sedative use, binds and gags (not the fun kind lol), beating as an interrogation tactic, knife use
a/n: this was done for an anon request! i was given lots of free reign with this one so this is what i came up with for the request of Reader getting captured and Matt/Daredevil has to attempt to rescue!
ps idk why, but i pictured Tom Ellis as the face and voice claim of the gang leader? not the intention, but it just kinda happened lol picture whoever you would like!
Tumblr media
“Thank you for your time, and again, I’m sorry for the misunderstanding,” you said to the young woman you had arrested the week prior as she walked out of the precinct, shooting you a dirty look on her way through the door.
You had found her in possession of a weapon that was unregistered and untraceable, so you took her in and had the gun run against the database to confirm your suspicions about the weapon. Captain Mahoney had recently assigned you to work on a case of an organized crime gang who were trafficking guns, so you were on high alert for any weapons that matched their MO. Turned out your hunch was right and the gun matched up with the weapon used in a murder a few weeks prior to her arrest. The detectives on the case were having trouble tracking down who the killer was, so when the gun’s tool marks matched up exactly, everyone was happy to have someone in custody for the crime.
The woman never once swayed from her story of innocence though, so naturally, she lawyered up. Her innocence was proven just hours before by a pair of talented attorneys from the law offices of Nelson, Murdock, and Page. You looked up to see one of her lawyers coming toward you with a smug look on his face as he approached, the rhythmic tap-tap-tap of his cane not unfamiliar to you at this point. “I guess you can’t be right all the time, Detective,” Matt Murdock said to you as he came to a halt mere feet from you.
You looked out at the bustling New York sidewalk where the woman had been moments before, and told him, “I’m just glad she didn’t go away for something she didn’t do. She ended up having a solid alibi and we found grainy footage of some thug slipping the gun into her purse the night I arrested her. I don’t think we would have known to look if it wasn’t for you and Foggy.”
“That’s what we’re here for,” he said, a small smile teasing the corners of his lips. There was a moment of silence before Matt spoke again, telling you, “Nice job, by the way, taking down that serial mugger last week. The streets already feel safer because of you.”
“Oh, you heard about that?” you asked curiously. Truthfully, it had been such a cut and dry case, you never followed up on what happened after the arrest.
“Yeah, when he hired us as his lawyers. Obviously, he was guilty, so we got him to take a deal,” Matt replied with a quiet chuckle. You watched as an almost cocky smirk curled up one side of his lips before he added quietly, “He said you were a little rough with the handcuffs?”
You leaned casually onto the wall beside you, crossing your arms loosely with a cheeky smile plastering your lips as you asked, “You’d like to know, wouldn’t you, Murdock?”
Before he could respond, an older officer who was wandering past barked out your last name and said, “Hey! What are you doing fraternizing with the enemy? He’s the reason so many of my arrests walk, you know!”
“Are you encouraging her not to listen to serious concerns from a constituent in her jurisdiction? I was just telling her how safe I feel now that she's on the case and taking serial criminals off our streets,” Matt said to him, his quick defense of you and the lawyer-speak making your heart flutter in your chest. He straightened his tie with his free hand not holding his cane and added, “Maybe if your arrests would actually hold up in court, they wouldn’t walk.”
The other officer stalked off, mumbling something you couldn’t quite make out, but you guessed that Matt could judging by the way his jaw was working in frustration. Wanting to take his attention away from the stressor, you quietly cleared your throat and told him, “You look really nice today, by the way. The tie really flatters you.”
His gaze finally tore away from the man when you said this and the muscles in his jaw relaxed, a smile returning to his features as he said, “Well, I’m glad it isn’t horribly obscene.”
“You could wear the gaudiest of hats and a neon orange tie and you’d still look amazing, Counselor,” you told him, a playfulness in your tone as a smile teased your lips.
Matt leaned in toward you slightly, his voice lowered and almost with a sultry quality to it as he asked, “Are you flirting with me, Detective?”
The gesture and his proximity made your heart start pounding in your chest, the sound reverberating loudly in your ears as your eyes quickly darted down to his lips before focusing back on his eyes behind his red lenses. Your voice sounded foreign in your own ears as you breathlessly said, “And if I-”
“Okay you two! No more puppy eyes at each other! You’re cut off for the day!” came Foggy Nelson’s voice as he approached with Captain Mahoney beside him. Both you and Matt straightened up in response to his interruption, the space between you growing once more to one of more professional standards as the two men approached.
Captain Mahoney playfully tsked at the pair of you before telling Matt, “Come on, Murdock! I need her sharp for the case we’re working on! I can’t have her daydreaming about you the whole time!”
“I don’t daydream…” you mumbled, averting your gaze to the ground in the hopes that the furious blush now taking over your cheeks would be less obvious that way.
“And I don’t need you to start now,” Captain Mahoney said, a quiet chuckle leaving his chest. You glanced up to see him giving Foggy a pointed look before telling him and Matt, “Now, you two get out of my precinct! And don’t come back unless you have to!”
“Don’t worry, we’ll be back with cigars for your mom soon!” Foggy said as he and Matt turned to leave the building.
“Oh, no you won’t!” Captain Mahoney shouted back.
“They totally will,” you said with a quiet laugh as you watched them disappear into the bustling crowd on the sidewalk.
Before you could return to your desk, the Captain’s voice caught your attention as he asked, “When are the two of you gonna finally go on a date?”
“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about,” you told him, shocked that he was discussing this with you.
“Uh-huh, sure,” he said, not even trying to hide his smirk.
Wanting the conversation to be off of your painfully obvious crush on Matt, you cleared your throat and asked, “Did you get a team together to head to the potential drop site with me tonight?”
“Yeah. It’ll be you, Stewart, Greene, and Campos,” he replied, relenting on his teasing, at least for now. “I had to make it a small team so you won’t be so obvious. You’ll go in plain clothes with bulletproof vests underneath. The four of you will have body cameras on at all times and I’ll be nearby in a van watching the feed with backup in case you need it.”
“Sounds good, do the others know yet?”
“No, I was just about to find you all,” he said. “Meet me in my office in ten and we’ll discuss the full plan.”
Tumblr media
That night once the sun had set and things were settling down as much as they could in New York City, you and your team of officers were making your way to the site where you were told the latest shipment of illegal guns was coming in. Dressed in plainclothes, the four of you ambled toward the site, Greene’s arm slung around your shoulders as she pretended to drunkenly stumble down the sidewalk while you brought a water bottle in a brown paper sack to your lips and took a long drink before pulling a face as if the contents tasted like cheap liquor on your tongue. Campos and Stewart flanked the two of you on either side, both of them also pretending to be unsteady on their feet as the four of you made your way toward the docks.
Once the four of you got to a mostly hidden spot near where the shipment was supposed to be delivered, the act was dropped and you all crouched silently as you stared at the dock. The boat was scheduled to arrive in the next thirty minutes. As the time got closer, Campos leaned over and whispered, “Are you sure this is the right place?”
“This is where my source told me they would be,” you told him.
Stewart, a slightly older officer, scoffed quietly and said sarcastically, “Yeah, Daredevil? Look, I know that after what happened with Fisk, Mahoney trusts him, but me personally? I think-”
“You should really listen to the detective in charge,” came the gravelly voice of the man in question as he perched on the structure across from the four of you. “Ghallagar got spooked since you’ve been onto his trail, so he moved the shipment a few docks down. If you hurry, you’ll be able to make it before the sale’s done.”
“And what’re you gonna do, huh?” Steward sneered.
“Let New York’s Finest do their work,” Daredevil replied. “All I came here to do is make sure you can do your job.”
“Thank you, Daredevil,” you told the man in red graciously. He simply nodded before silently turning and making his way in the opposite direction. “Well, you heard the man, let’s go!” you told the others before gesturing for them to start getting up and heading in the direction of the new stakeout location. Before you could head off though, you spoke aloud so Captain Mahoney could hear, telling him, “The shipment’s being dropped off a few docks down. We’re heading there now. Control van can stay in place, it shouldn’t be too far from the original location.”
“Control van staying put, copy,” came the captain’s voice. “If you need backup just call.”
“Will do,” you said before creeping your way to the front of the small pack. You had your service weapon drawn and pointed to the ground, but it was ready to be used at a moment’s notice.
When the four of you arrived, the van for transport had just pulled up and you saw three men get out, heading over to meet with three more emerging from a small boat anchored at the dock. They were all armed to the teeth. It was clear that Ghallagar was not messing around. Before the guns could exchange hands, you motioned your crew forward. Staying slightly ahead of them, but fanned out, you raised your weapon and shouted firmly, “NYPD! Put the weapons down! Now!”
“Shit, we gotta go!” you heard one of the men from the boat crew shout before turning tail and running back to get the boat started.
“Stop running! Put your hands where I can see them!” you shouted, firmer yet, as the four of you slowly creeped toward the men.
“Get the guns! Now! We’ll hold ‘em off!” one of the gang men roared while gesturing for the shippers to grab their boxes.
“Weapons down!” you warned.
“I don’t think so!” the man in charge of the street crew snarled before opening fire.
“Get to safety! I’ll provide cover!” you shouted at the other officers who quickly obeyed your command and hid behind shipping containers. In case Captain Mahoney hadn’t heard the gunfire, you shouted, ”Shots fired! I repeat, shots fired!” You heard more gunshots firing off from your side and watched as one man from the boat who was still on the dock got shot, a crimson spray of blood misting the air as the bullet made contact.
Before you could make a move to back up and into an area of cover of your own, a rapid spray of bullets came flying toward you! You barely registered it as a second man from the street crew who had taken the heavy artillery weapon out of the van before the wind was knocked out of you completely and you were knocked onto your back. As you lay on the ground struggling to breathe due to the impact of so many bullets on your kevlar vest, you saw a blur of red dash past you and toward the dock.
You barely registered the shouts of, “Officer down! Officer down!” from Greene as your heart pounded in your ears. Adrenaline rushed through your veins, but rather than pushing you up like it normally would, it froze you to the ground.
When you were finally able to turn your head to see what was going on because you could no longer rely on your hearing, you saw the red-clad figure of Daredevil standing over a bloodied man who had crumpled to the ground. You saw his shoulders moving up and down as his chest heaved with the effort of the fight, his fists clenched at his sides as he stood menacingly over the body. His head jerked up as the van peeled away from the dock without their fallen man and the boat zoomed away into the water.
Closing your eyes, you breathed a sigh of relief to know the fire fight was over. “Take care of him,” you heard Daredevil’s voice bark to the other officers. It sounded like he was getting closer to you. You attempted to take a deep breath, but groaned in pain as you did, earning a concerned, “What hurts?” from Daredevil as he came to crouch beside you on the cold ground.
“Ribs. Stomach. Bullets to kevlar,” you managed to get out between shallow breaths, squeezing your eyes shut as more pain burst forward with every word.
“I’ve got-” Daredevil started to say, but stopped abruptly. When he did, your tightly closed eyes were suddenly engulfed by light before more excruciating pain radiated throughout your body as you were lifted up and into Daredevil’s arms. As you moved through the air with your eyes snapped shut, you felt Daredevil nearly lose his balance as a blast of air jostled him. Opening your eyes for a brief moment, you saw the gang’s van flying past you, missing the pair of you by mere inches!
You came to a crashing halt right into his armored chest with a cry of pain a few moments later, your knees buckling under the weight of your body and the pain. “I’m right here, you’re okay. You’re safe,” he whispered, pulling you gently back up into his chest, his gloved hand supporting the back of your neck as he did.
Through the ringing in your ears, you barely heard your name being called out as officer Greene and Captain Mahoney made their way over to you and the masked man. “Are you okay?!” Greene asked exasperatedly. “Those guys are maniacs! Santos barely got out of the way before he got hit!”
“I’ll-” you tried before groaning in pain once again.
“Greene, make sure that bus is on the way and get an ETA, I can handle this,” Mahoney told her before you felt another set of hands on you to give support as you were peeled away from Daredevil’s chest. “I can’t believe they tried to hit you!” he grumbled. When you were able to open your eyes for a few moments you saw the deep scowl on his face as he shook his head, mumbling something you couldn’t quite make out through the cotton in your ears as your heart continued to pound relentlessly.
It felt like mere moments before you were being put onto the gurney and being stabilized by the EMTs as you guarded your midsection while they worked. Glancing over, you noticed that since you were out of his arms, Daredevil was about to leave. Not wanting him to go without an acknowledgement of being the reason you were still alive, you managed to get out a weak, “Thank you. For saving me.” In response, he offered you a nod before sprinting off, leaving you to be taken to Metro General to be checked over.
Tumblr media
A few hours and exams later, you were released by the doctors at the hospital, being cleared of any breaks or concussion. You were simply sent home with massive bruising and told to take it easy the next few days with some pain killers. And although you protested, Captain Mahoney benched you for the next few days, telling you to stay home and heal up before returning for desk duty at the end of the week.
It was understandable, being told that you would come back for desk duty after what happened, though. You were shot at by a heavy weapon and almost mowed down by a van, for Pete’s sake! You cheated death. Twice! But it still felt like a punishment. Riding the desk hadn’t ever been your style, and you hated to start now…
Reaching over to the nightstand near your bed in your apartment, you felt around for the bottle of Advil that had become your best friend the past couple of days. When you finally made contact with it, you opened the lid and turned the bottle in order to drop a couple pills into your hand, but nothing came out. Groaning in pain and frustration, you realized that you were out and hadn’t bought any before coming home after the hospital visit… Shit. You would have to go to the bodega down the street and get a new bottle.
Getting dressed was a task, and it took you a long time to get your sweats and t-shirt on in order to go to the shop. You didn’t even bother with sneakers, slipping into a pair of slides sitting by the door as you grabbed your purse off the hook and began making your way out of your apartment building. The walk was slow going and painful, the constant bustle of people around you on the sidewalk not helping as they shoved past you, your tender ribs and bruised abdomen taking hits that had you wanting to scream.
The bodega thankfully had the medicine you were seeking. After paying for it and a bottle of water, you were taking the pills as you left the store, not wanting to wait a second longer for the pain relief you desperately sought. Before you could close up the pill bottle though, from the alleyway beside you, a pair of arms reached out and grabbed you! The pills scattered all around as you struggled to go into a defensive move you knew by heart in order to get out of the attacker’s grasp. But almost as if they knew you had bruised ribs, they squeezed your midsection, igniting your whole body in a searing pain that had you seeing stars. Taking a deep breath to scream turned out to be fruitless as only a weak cry tumbled out when your expanding ribcage violently protested the intake of air.
“Gotcha,” said a gruff voice, their breath hot beside your ear as they spoke. After he did, you felt a needle enter your arm as he muttered, “Night, night. The boss can’t wait to see ya, Detective.”
Tumblr media
When you came to, you blinked hard a few times, thinking that maybe it was all just a pain-induced nightmare. Reality hit you though when you tried to move your arms but couldn’t because they were tied behind you as you slumped over in an uncomfortable chair. Trying to remain as still as possible so as to not notify your captors of your conscious state, you took in your surroundings.
You were shoved into a corner of the room, so you had a pretty good view of the space around you. Lining two of the four walls were crates upon crates, each marked with the symbol of the gun runners you had been tracking. So, that confirmed your suspicions about who had snatched you… On top of each box was a display of what gun was inside, small spotlights illuminating the weapon as if it was an art piece in a museum. Two men stood guard near the boxes with guns of their own holstered to keep the product safe. Another man sat in a chair nearby on his cell phone. Because of his proximity, you assumed he was supposed to be keeping an eye out for you to wake up.
There was a musty smell that permeated the air and the occasional drip of water echoing in the distance. It was a narrow room with a slightly rounded off ceiling, which you thought was odd. There was graffiti on the wall that seemed vaguely familiar to you, but you couldn’t quite put your finger on where you had seen the tag before… The far wall looked like it had collapsed long ago, and it held the only entrance to the area that you could see. It didn’t even have a door, it was just an opening in the collapse. Something more promising though that clued you into where you may be located was the unfinished rail tracks peeking out from under the collapsed rubble and the unused tracks that had been used as makeshift barriers to protect the guns.
You must be in the tunnel where the city had tried building an additional subway line a few years before, but it collapsed before they could get too far. Neither you nor Daredevil had been able to figure out where the gang’s base of operations was located, and now it made total sense. The area the city had accessed to get into the underground area was sealed and forgotten about by the population at large. You didn’t even know where the entrance was, although you had your guesses. Any time you would chase a group of troubled teens you caught harassing a street vendor or tagging the window of a business, they would just disappear into thin air near 45th and 9th. That was where you knew the graffiti tag from! There must be an entrance into this place somewhere near there! Not that knowing where you were particularly helped you at the moment, but… If you made it out of here somehow, at least you knew the best way to get to safety.
“Hey, look who finally decided to wake up,” said the man near you. A shiver zipped down your spine as you realized that it was the same voice that spoke in your ear when you were taken. “Thought we overdosed you there for a little while. Guess I’m not as good at calculating drug doses as I thought. Oh, well.”
“What do you want with me?” you tried to ask firmly, but your voice came out broken and scratchy from lack of use over however long you had been out.
“You’re asking the wrong guy questions,” the man said in a bored sort of tone. “Hey, Reg! Call the boss-man and tell him she’s awake. He’ll want to talk to her.”
“That he will,” came a new voice. Your head turned toward the opening in the collapse and saw a man in a white button up and pressed slacks walking in, flanked on either side by burly looking men who you assumed were his guard.
“Ghallagar…” you mumbled, narrowing your eyes at the man you had only ever seen in pictures from the original brief you were given on the case. The whole time he had been in the Kitchen, the man was practically a ghost, so this was your first time getting a good look at him.
“Detective,” he said with a certain smugness in his voice as he approached you. He held your gaze for a few moments before asking his men, “May we have the room? I need some time alone with the detective. There are buyers coming in an hour. Make sure we have materials to hide this section of the space. We don’t need them to see what I’m about to do. Bad for business.”
“Yes sir,” one of the burly men replied before turning away and gesturing for all of the men in the room to follow.
When it was just the two of you again, Ghallagar rolled up his sleeves as he said, “I bet you’re wondering why I had you taken.”
“The thought may have crossed my mind,” you replied, trying to keep your voice steady. What did he plan on doing to you? What did he-
A sharp slap across the face pulled you out of your thoughts. “You seem to have something I want.” Another slap in the other direction nearly toppled you out of the chair before he snarled, “And I intend on getting the information out of you.”
“What do you want?” you asked through gritted teeth, trying not to show any weakness to the man standing tall over you. You may be in the compromised position, but there was no way you were going to let this man break you. You couldn’t. You wouldn’t.
“Tell me Daredevil’s identity,” Ghallagar said as if it was the most simple question in the world. As if he was asking the name of the cashier at your favorite bodega.
“I don’t-” you tried, but stopped to let out a cry of pain when he sent a kick into your bruised midsection.
“You’ve worked with him for months! Trying to find me, finding the gang whose place I took, taking down that mugger together. I could go on with all of the cases you’ve figured out with his help, Detective.” Before you could contain your emotions, your eyes widened momentarily, and that reaction caused a smirk to twist Ghallagar’s lips. “Yeah, that’s right. I know your case files. I have a folder with the names of every criminal you’ve taken down since you got out of the Academy.” He circled around to stand behind you and dug his thumbs into painful pressure points in your shoulders as he said, “You got to do your homework on me, I got to do my homework on you. It’s only fair, isn’t it? And it’s also fair for you to tell me who you’ve been working with since you’ve been such a thorn in my side!”
When he said that last part, a white-hot pain seared over your shoulder as he ran a knife over the skin there. You tried to bite your cheek to muffle your scream of pain, but only drew more blood than was already trickling out of the wound on your shoulder. Taking a deep breath to control yourself only made things worse and you let out another groan of pain as he circled back to stand in front of you. “I don’t know-” you tried again, but were cut off when he shoved the whole chair over with you in it.
“Do you think I’m stupid?” he shouted as he sent another kick into your ribs, causing more pain to rock your already battered body. “The way he saved you that night on the docks! He made sure to go to you! The way he held you when he saved you from my men’s van! You know who he is, and it’s just a matter of time until I get it out of you!”
Tumblr media
“She was supposed to get back to work today, I haven’t seen her though. Not like her to be late…” was Brett’s response to Matt’s question about where you were. It was the morning you were supposed to be back after the incident at the docks, and Karen had suggested bringing you flowers. He didn’t hear you inside the building on his way there, though, so he hadn’t grabbed any before heading in to speak with a new client.
“Have you tried calling her?” Matt asked.
“Straight to voicemail. I was thinking of doing a welfare check myself here in a little bit if she doesn’t show up by noon,” Brett said with a sigh. A quiet chuckle left his chest before he added, “Don’t worry, I’ll get a hold of her, Lover Boy.”
Matt shook his head and laughed light-heartedly at the joke, telling Brett, “I appreciate it,” before he and Foggy left the precinct and headed to their office for the afternoon of case file sifting.
Running his fingers over the braille case file in front of him, Matt had been fully engrossed in the complexities of this case for hours. Foggy had already called it quits for the night and went home, but he and Karen were still there, working to find an angle they could win this case at. “What if we played up the jury’s-” came Karen’s voice, but Matt tuned her out when he heard your name mentioned in the police chatter from a nearby cop cruiser.
Officer missing after welfare check. Cameras show the officer’s last known location outside of a bodega before disappearing into an alleyway. Three days ago.
Matt was out of his office chair and hurtling toward the door before Karen could even ask where he was going, calling over his shoulder that there was an emergency that he needed to deal with. He didn’t even bother with the cane as he ran, he and Karen were the only ones in the building anyway at this hour. He needed to get to his suit and he needed to get to it now. Your life may well depend on it.
Tumblr media
You weren’t sure how long the beatings went on for. There was no light that got into the collapsed tunnel so you couldn’t tell day from night. There didn’t seem to be any patterns on when guards entered or exited the room. There was no specific time when Ghallagar came in or out to beat answers you didn’t have out of you. And there was no use shouting. You felt doomed.
The only reprieve from the onslaught of pain was when buyers came in. When they were there, you were gagged and concealed from sight by a room divider, left to bleed and suffer in pain before more was inflicted when they were gone. Besides the pain, the only thing you knew for sure was that you didn’t have the information he wanted. You didn’t know who Daredevil was. No one did. You just worked with him on the recommendation from Captain Mahoney. That’s all. The way the masked vigilante saved you that night and held you to his chest made you feel safe, yes, but why that made Ghallagar think you knew his identity was beyond you. You wished there was some way for you to prove that you were telling the truth. Some way for him to know-
Your thoughts were interrupted by the loud sound of gunfire in the front of the room. The enclosed space made everything louder and you squeezed your eyes closed in a feeble attempt to shut everything out. You were afraid of the ricocheting bullets making their way over here. Although, if one hit you, this could all be over… You wouldn’t have to endure anymore pain. There would be no more pain. And boy, did that sound great right now.
The sound of fighting got closer and closer, Ghallagar’s voice barking orders before suddenly going silent along with the rest of the room. The only thing you heard was the sound of fists hitting flesh and groans of pain from the victims of whoever was dealing the blows. Already conditioned to fear the punches of your captors, you cowered inward as much as you could, a weak and unintentional whimper leaving your throat as you did.
Within seconds of making the noise, the pounding of fists stopped and you heard a thud as a body landed on the floor, their skull hitting the pavement hard. Your heart pounded in your throat as you heard heavy footfalls approaching you and you wished the person away with all your might. Your wish didn’t come true though as the room barrier was shoved aside, causing you to tuck your head down to be as small as possible in the eyes of the unknown person in front of you.
Your name was whispered in a gravelly voice, and you shook your head in some sort of attempt to deter the person from you. Instead of another beating that you were accustomed to though, suddenly your hands were free of their confines and you were being hauled up and into the embrace of the person now standing in front of you. You were too weak to fight, but when you felt the texture of the armor adorning the person holding you, you let out a sob and tightened your arms around the man. Around Daredevil. He came to rescue you. He saved your life again.
“I’m here. I’m right here. You’re safe now,” he mumbled as he held you as gently as he could. With one arm still wrapped around you, you felt one pull away before he spoke again a few moments later, saying, “Tell Mahoney I found her. Collapsed subway tunnel near 45th and 9th. Ghallagar and his men are incapacitated. Get an ambulance here, now. She’s in bad shape.”
It was as if your body instantly switched out of survival mode when he ended the call. The moment you knew that an ambulance was on the way and you were safe in Daredevil’s arms, you collapsed. Every muscle fiber in your body gave out and your joints folded under all the weight and suddenly everything went black once more.
Tumblr media
When you began to regain consciousness, you instantly knew you were in a different environment. Rather than the sound of dripping water and gruff men speaking, there was the occasional beeping sound and soft spoken voices. You were in a somewhat comfortable bed with pillows surrounding you in an effort to soften the mattress and your hands weren’t bound behind you. There was no steady trickle of blood leaking from your body. You were in the hospital. You were safe.
Your eyelids fluttered open when you heard movement from beside you, and you realized that one of the soft spoken voices was coming from right beside you in the form of Matt Murdock praying. Looking down, you realized that one of your hands was grasped in his as he prayed, and a deep blush creeped onto your cheeks - the moment was far more intimate than any you had shared before. “Hey,” you whispered once he said amen.
“You’re awake. Thank God,” he said, the emotion obvious in his voice and smile. “You had me scared there for a few days.”
“A-a few days?” you asked, eyes widening.
“Yeah. It’s been three days since they brought you in,” Matt replied, squeezing your hand gently. “Brett and Daredevil took care of Ghallagar. He and his men are going away for a long time.”
“Good,” you said, your voice breaking with emotion as you remembered what you endured at his hand. Wanting to change the subject off of the man in question, you looked at the gorgeous bouquet of flowers on your bedside table and asked, “Did you bring those flowers?”
A bashful smile made its way onto Matt’s lips as he nodded, telling you, “I was hoping you’d wake up before they wilted. Was I right?”
“Yeah. They’re gorgeous. Thank you, Matt,” you said, voice wobbly as you spoke. “And thank you for coming to see me. I- You didn’t have to do that.”
“I wanted to,” Matt replied softly.
“Oh hey! You’re awake!” came the voice of Foggy as he peeked into the room. “I hate to break up this happy little reunion, but we gotta go, buddy. Client needs us, like, yesterday.”
“Yeah, I’ll be right there,” Matt told him.
During the whole exchange you were left staring at yours and Matt’s intertwined hands and got to thinking. Why hadn’t you ever just made a move with him? Before, you were convinced that he was just playing along with your flirting. That he didn’t have feelings for you like you did for him and that he just didn’t want to be rude. But now, frankly, you didn’t care about your overthought reasoning. After the last week, you realized how fleeting life was and just how lucky you were that you were still alive. So, before Matt could stand up and say his goodbyes as Foggy stepped out of the room, you leaned forward and placed a kiss on his cheek.
The gesture ignited pain in your battered body and a furious blush on your cheeks as you relaxed back into the mattress. The boyish grin that lit up Matt’s face made your heart flutter, and you swore it almost stopped when he asked, “Can I kiss you?”
“Yes,” was your instant response in a breathy tone with a wide smile on your lips as well.
The kiss was brief and gentle with both you and Matt unable to hold back your smiles as it happened. You felt rays of happiness flowing out of you and couldn’t help the giggle that escaped your lips when he pulled away mere moments later. He squeezed your hand once again as he said, “I’ve wanted to do that for a while. I’m sorry it took me so long to realize…”
“Better late than never,” you replied, a content smile on your lips as you remembered his soft ones on yours, already craving the next. You hoped that this would be the start of something magical with Matt.

Note
I do have a few more examples! Tim offers Mister Freeze unlimited funding to help his wife on the condition that he sometimes helps with other projects. He hires Harvey Dent to be his personal lawyer (not that he needs one). Blood Sport, Death Stroke, Dead Shot, and many other mercenaries are hired to "break into" Drake Industries to hunt down and "kill" Tim or "steal" important information in order to test his companies defenses and tell him exactly how they got in so that he can patch any holes. He hires one to break in every 2 to 3 months but never the same person in a year. Like if he uses Deathstroke in August he can't use him again until January.
Tim also doesn't want to force these rouges to move far away from their homes so he opens up branches in Metropolis, Central City, Star City, and others too. Anywhere he opens an office for Drake Industries, crime rate always plummets thanks to him hiring all the Henchmen and giving them stable jobs that pay at minimum double the minimum wage of the area plus really good health insurance and other benefits. They even have dental and 4 months paid maternity *and* paternity leave! The desk work may not be as exciting as their previous jobs but boy is it safer.
Also I would like to make one note. DI is one of the few major cooperations in America that openly does *not* donate to the Jusitce Leauge. Tim is still salty about Bruce Quest and during an interview where someone asked how much he donates to them, Tim said, "oh I don't. At all. It's not that I don't believe in them, I do, uts just. There's already so many places funding them they don't need me. But you know who does? The younger generation of heroes. Did you know that The Teen Titans only get funding through the Justice Leauge? I don't think that's very fair so I donate to them. I donate to Young Justice. I track down and do research on dozens of younger heroes who aren't part of any organization and check to make sure they're doing good in their community and then I directly donate to them. Superheroing is expensive, just look how much the JL spends on it! Could you imagine? Being fresh out of high-school, working a minimum wage job, and having to make your own suit and gadgets while also paying for *college*? The stories I have heard from some of them! This one poor kid, he told me that he had to use this roll of regular fabric he found in a dumpster because buying a roll was to expensive! Of course I sent him to a super hero tailor on my own dime, after all he just wanted to help his community saving kittens from trees and stopping local mugging. But still, small heroes like him are important. After all, didn't Superman start by saving cats from trees? Didn't Green Arrow start by stopping a mugging? Didn't Batman himself start by stopping a purse snatching? You never know who the next big hero will be in 5 or ten years."
I might have gotten a bit to into that rant. Listen. Listen this is a subject close to my heart. Small Time Heroes Are Important!
My gods, I love this so so much. You combined two tropes I love: Tim using Business to fund social programs/decrease crime/hire ex felons and criminals, and Tim turning his back on the JL after the BruceQuest.
Added with Tim funding small time heroes???? This is phenomenal

Forced proximity
Prompt: forced to take shelter together from various environmental hazards, how will they handle being so close to you?
Characters: Shenhe, Diluc, Chevreuse, Dehya, Kaeya, Zhongli
Tumblr media
Chevreuse
“My musket is waterproof, so we won’t be stopped with the rain.” She said as you ran with her to find shelter. You two had been trying to set up a trap for local criminals using you, a newbie as bait with her in the shadows. Normally you would be against this but you had actually used this before and you didn’t end up with even a scratch from it. As long as Chevreuse was the one you were working with, it was fine.
“I’m more worried about the hypothermia personally.” You complained. Your dainty dress was by no means waterproof. Infact it acted like a sponge, you would be warmer snuggling with cryo slimes than in this getup.
“Over there! There’s a ship wreck, that could offer some shelter if we’re lucky.” She said. The shipwreck seemed recent, probably from the flood of fontaine which displaced many. It seemed this one was relatively in good condition, rust only starting to form on its metal exterior. You ran in with her as you two quickly sought to remove your wet exterior clothes. “We’ll have to remove your dress, sorry if that’s uncomfortable but its just too drenched.” You were a bit surprised but understood.
“Yes I know, just give me sometime.” You said. It wasn’t easy but you knew it had to be done. What made it more difficult was how it clung to you. Hiding behind a broken wall, you undressed to your underwear. You looked to see if she was watching but she had her back turned, trying to get a fire started. You began to squeeze the water out, trying to not get it on you in the process. Next time you should ask for a jacket when she approaches you with the disguise.
“Are you done yet.”
“Almost.. there’s alot of water in this.” You groaned. You noticed she had successfully started a fire. Making sure to isolate it from any flammable objects. You were so cold at that point you just draped your wet dress over your self and sat a bit away from her.
“that bad huh. I’ll just keep my eyes elsewhere then.” She said. “I didn’t think it’d rain today, especially considering how warm it was a second ago.”
“That dastardly hydro dragon. Someone should give them emotional support animal at this rate.” you cursed under your breath.
“It’s probably that one ongoing trial with the serial killer. He’s go a bastard of a lawyer who’s really good at loopholes. Supposedly the final trial is today.”
“They’re not letting that pyscho back out surely?!” You jolted.
“Relax, all it takes is one slip up and he’s got no defense then. Besides, Neuvillette will definitely not let him go if he still considers him guilty.”
“You’re right but considering I fit the bill for his primary victims i can’t exactly sleep soundly until his head is off or he’s imprisoned! I wish Furina was still in the courts, she would’ve never let that man get this far.”
“I’m sure she has her own reasons, but considering how much help you’ve been I’m not going to let you go unguarded. I’ll schedule patrols by your district more and by your areas.”
“You would do that for me? I’m impressed. I didn’t know I did such a good job at being a damsel for hire.” You snickered.
“I mean it. Oh and by the way, your clothes look dry now.” She said. You almost forgot about that.
“Oh, give me a second.”you went back behind your wall to redress yourself, this time leaving the hoop skirt out of it.
“If you’re still cold we should huddle together. That way we can share body heat.” She said as you approached her once more. “My body is warmer than usual because of my vision after all”
“I’ll take you up on that offer then.” You smiled sitting much closer to her than she might’ve expected. “Do you mind a bit of cuddling?”
“With you? No.” She said, her arm wrapped around you almost on instinct. “You’re a bit more special than other people to me.”
“Do you tell that to every damsel you hire?” You tease.
“Oh god of course not! What do you think I am?” She cackled. “You make it sound like you’re some.. prostitute!”
“I am selling my body technically.” You added, jokingly, your head resting on her shoulders almost by instinct.
“Why did you take up that offer anyways? You have a good job, enough to live on the surface anyways.”
“Because I wanted to get stuck in the rain with you obviously! But in seriousness.. i uhh.. had a loan i had to pay and i spent a good majority on my paycheck already. So i needed fast cash and i saw the paper and i took it.” You explained.
“Huh, you sure you weren’t trying to hit on me? Because you were eyeing me during that little training session.” She adds.
“If that’s what you would like it be then yes I was hitting on you.” You said, your eyes trailed to her cheeks to catch a glimpse of her blushing face.
“Hm… I guess you were then.. lets get some rest.. the rain should let up by then.”
You couldn’t help feeling delightful that you finally broke her cold exterior. And with your body so close to hers, you truly felt victorious.
Diluc
“There. Its not much but it should offer some shelter in the meantime.” He said pointing to a old caravan. The roof of it was intact. You two quickly hid under there. Quickly finding your bodies pressed against each other.
“S-sorry.. i can’t move over any more.” You said nervously. But In reality, you didn’t want to move from his warm body at all. It felt like laying on a warm patch of sunlight.
“Its fine. I’ve been told I’m warm enough already. Here.” He took off his jacket, wrapping it across you.
“Thank you… and thank you for saving me from those hilichurls earlier too.” Your heart was racing, it sounded like his was too.
“Its nothing. Those knights, they were supposed to clear the area for merchants.” He scowled.
“Well, it was my fault for making the delivery without a jacket. I should’ve taken Sara’s advice and gone the long way. Its a good thing I still have it.” You managed to pull out the food in question, it was just a simple chicken skewers.
“I suppose you won’t be able to deliver it now, there’s no harm in having it if you’re hungry.” He said. But you offered it to him.
“Have one, you must be hungry. I can’t imagine its easy wielding a claymore on a empty stomach.. besides, there’s already one for myself”
“Why did they order chicken skewers, its the most simple dish to make?” He said almost judge-mentally.
“Well its a special one, we used a marinade for the chicken, try it.” You again offered it to him. He took it. You watched his eyes light up. “Good right? It would be better if it was warm.”
I’m sure could try it while stopping by.”
“That sounds nice… you’re really warm by the way..” you blurt out. He looks surprised.
“I hope so. Are you warm too?” He asked. You nod.
“We should wait out the storm. I’m sure it shouldn’t be too long.” He said, you realized his face has been red this whole time.
“Although.. My winery isn’t too far from here.. but you said your foot hurt right?”
“I did earlier yes. I might’ve sprained it.” You sigh. “It feels fine now.”
“Hmm… that’s no good. Lets wait until it lightens up then. I can’t risk you injuring yourself further now.”
“I-if you want you could go ahead. It might be better so you’re not stuck out here too.” You say. He seems upset at the idea.
“Absolutely not. You could freeze to death. Lets stay here where I can keep you safe.” His words stuck out to you. Is it possible that he meant that in a more romantic context? Are you just overthinking it?
“I-I’m getting rather tired though.. I almost just want to sleep..” you said. Your eyelids felt a bit heavy, he was just… so warm, his body pressed up against you.. his arms around you… you hoped you would feel this again.
“I’ll keep watch. Just rest a little bit.” He said. As you drifted off to sleep you noticed a light kiss on your head.
“Cute.” He mumbled to himself.
Dehya
“Ugh! I’m so sick of the sand.” You and Dehya were taking shelter inside a cave, you were a professor at the Akademiya, you came out to the desert to study the giant ruin machines so you could do a lesson on them only to get caught in a sandstorm. Lucky for you, Dehya who you had hired, was well versed in the desert.
“Well that’s what you get. Lucky that you hired me, I’m certain you would have never found this cave.” She grinned proudly.
“I’m certain i’d be dead with that stupid wenut poking around. Ugh, what do those things even eat?!” You shook your clothes to get the sand out.
“Idk I’m not the scholar here so.” Dehya grinned.
“Hey my expertise is in machinery.. not oversized worms with no business of existing!” You fussed over your hair, to your shame, it hadn’t survived well. The hair tie you wore must’ve broken while you were busy trying to block the sand out of your eyes. “Ugh.. so much sand in my hair too… this is so unbecoming of me.”
“Unbecoming? You’re a scholar not a model.” Dehya said.
“Thanks.” You said sarcastically. “But I need to look professional and well put together. I’m not the prettiest sure but I should at least look like I am a scholar and not some rat drowing in sand!” You found your hair had also knotted together in what you horrifically realized was a huge mess. Not even your hairbrush could save you.. “oh god…” you winced as you got your hairbrush out, it felt painful to brush it out.
“Yikes.. let me help you there.” Dehya said. You turned to her.
“How is your hair fine!” You felt ashamed.
“I dunno, I wasn’t trying to fight the wind back there, but its really not that bad. Here just sit infront of me and I’ll help.”
“Well.. i guess you’re the expert on desert stuff.. do you encounter this problem alot?” You asked, obliging by her request.
“Oh definitely. Alot of eremite gals use praids or tie their hair up in some way. I could put yours in one if you like?”
“If any of it is salvageable that would be nice. You’re actually rather smart yourself.. you would do well in the ak-“
“Nope.”
“Why? I’m not trying to insult your job, especially right now, but I really think you could do alot more in your life!”
“Then who would you hire for all your little adventures then?” She said.
“Well.. there’s dozens of eremites, i could find another. I just think you have potential that you can’t explore in this position.” You sighed.
“I know you mean well but honestly I like it. There’s no way I’d give up the thrill of adventure and fighting for studying some stupid class like.. calculus.” Her voice carried a confidence you envied. But you noticed her hands were quite skilled, you didn’t feel any pain as she brushed out your knots.
“I’ll give you that, math isn’t the most interesting. But even just like reading some books might do you good! I’m not asking you to become my student I just think maybe investing in a library card could be useful!” You felt at ease strangely. You had been a regular of Dehya’s. Mostly because she was the most trustworthy by review, and also she was a woman. You didn’t exactly want to travel alone with just a man you didn’t know. And also she was rather pretty to look at.
“That is actually a interesting suggestion. I might take you up on that sometime.” She smiled. “Say, how come you always pick me? I heard from the other Eremites that you even canceled a whole trip you had planned because I wasn’t available.”
“W-well..” you blushed. “I just trust you the most. These conditions aren’t exactly easy for me and I’d rather traverse dangerous terrain with someone I trust and someone I know. Besides it gives me the opportunity to not rely on my colleagues’ decisions. I’m not as social as you might think.”
“You sure that’s it? You’re willing to sacrifice papers and lessons just because you don’t trust the other eremites? You know we didn’t start off besties here, what made you pick me in the first place? And it not like its just because I’m a girl, there’s plenty of female eremites out there well versed in combat like myself. I could recommend them to you.”
“I- just.. have a preference for you. Nothing wrong about that is there? Its more mora in your pocket so why should you care?” You pouted. She chuckled behind you.
“Easy now. I didn’t mean to sound like I was complaining. Its nice seeing how loyal you are to me.” You just feel her cocky smirk from behind. But your ego was quickly forgotten as she finished brushing out your knots, now starting to braid them. “If it does any good, you are my favorite customer. That and the traveler but its not like they hire me or anything. I’ve rather enjoyed our adventures. Maybe you should join the eremites~”
“Absolutely not! If i could handle it on my own then i would. Y-you do realize that- oh.. I see what you’re doing.” You sigh.
“See, its not fun when people question your career choices. Much less trying to push their own onto you. This is my dream job, I don’t need to take a class to perfect it.”
“Well to be honest I just would like to see you more that’s all.” You blurted out. Dehya realized you had been blushing this whole time. She seemed a bit surprised. “Those other scholars at the Akademiya are most old geezers with flies in their head reiterating the same sentiments with little flexibility. I much rather talk to you even if you don’t understand those concepts. I just… like to be around you that’s all.”
“Woah. That makes scholarly life alot less appealing you know?”
“I’m not trying to recruit you here! I just.. wanted a excuse to see you around more.” Silence fell between you two. You worried if you had been too open then, letting her know how you felt… “Y-you know there’s talk from Faruzan about opening a school or class in the desert. I think you could help with that.”
“That’s actually rather interesting. Whats her plan?”
“Oh just literacy. Its so they can read more complex topics. Oh and Kaveh was working on a library for the Aaru village too. I wanted to ask what books you think would appeal to the desert kids?” You added.
“Maybe if you have some textbooks that’d be easy or-“
“I mean like fiction. What did you want to learn about as a kid?” You said looking at her. You were a bit surprised to see such a fond look in her eyes. It made your heart thump ad your confidence wavered.
“Well.. I wanted to- hey.. the storms over.” Dehya said looking out at the entrance. You almost forgot about the storm.
“Oh.. maybe we should spend the night here just in case.” You said.
“You just want to keep talking don’t you.” Dehya smiled.
“Well yes. But also my feet are killing me still.”
Shenhe
“Its getting cold out, we need to seek shelter immediately.” Shenhe said. But it was only a light downpour. You felt a little whimsical.
“Oh its such a pretty sight. Rain in the snow.. oh I love it.” You quickly got out your camera to take a few photos. “There will be more icicles soon. Ooh it would make fo such a go- OH?” You quickly were picked up by Shenhe as she located a nearby hilichurl camp.
“Wait but what about- wait why is it empty.” You noted how old it looked. Dust collecting, various masks strewn about, broken. Shenhe set you down letting you looked around.
“I use this camp as my training grounds. Unfortunately they stopped trying to claim this area. But we should be aboe to take shelter in here.” She said. You were surprised by how nice it looked. Hay bedding, animal skins. You could easily make a bed with this. The roof did leak but it would do.
“I still think we could find somewhere better. The rain isn’t so ba-“ you were startled back into her arms as lightning struck not too far away. “Okay lets go inside..” you started to bunch up the hay together into a nest almost. Shenhe watched with curiosity.
“What is that for?” She asked.
“I’m making a bed. You can join if you would like. Its good to keep warm.” You said, bringing the animal skins to use as blankets. She joined you as you two cuddled in the makeshift bed.
“It is quite warm actually. You’ve done well.” Shenhe’s praise had you beaming with pride.
“Ah thank you… you don’t have to be so close you know?” You said.
“Do you want me to move away?” She seemed confused.
“Actually its fine. I don’t mind it.” You said.
“I’m getting rather tired.. you’re quite warm actually.” Shenhe pulled you in closer catching you off guard.
“O-oh. That’s good. I think we can take a rest. So long as No hilicurls come by.”
“They won’t. I laid out those masks to warn them not to come back. Its been months since any have returned.” She mumbled. “I should move them then. They make for good practice.”
“Lets not talk about murdering hilichurls right now please?” You asked.
“Right… so.. do you sleep outside often? You seem to know what to do.”
“No but I know that the barn cats use the hay in my family’s cellar for their bedding. I figured it must be comfortable.”
“You were right. This is quite nice.. I can imagine this bed would make many cat’s comfortable.” She said. You smiled at her imagination.
“Thank you.. I think… i may rest my eyes for a bit.. the sound of the rain outside is luring me to sleep, but im still nervous.”
“I’ll keep watch then. You get some rest.” She said. You smiled resting your head on her chest.
Zhongli
You were traveling with Zhongli, a funeral consultant on your way to Chenyu valley. But you two ran into a problem…
“I didn’t know it could rain like that here!” You felt spooked as you clung to the much taller male. “I just hope it doesn’t start to thunder ei-“ on cue lighting struck the bridge right infront of you.
“Lets find shelter then. Stay close to me. We don’t want to get separated here of all places.” His eyes scanning across the landscape. He spotted a cave and immediately pointed. “There. We should find some shelter there.”
You two quickly retreated into the cave, you silently thanked rex lapis that caves were abundant in this area.
“Lucky for us, there isn’t anyone else here.” He said as you two came in deeper. Finding it empty and relatively dry.
“I-its a shame we can’t make a fire. There isn’t any wood in here..” you lament. “I’m cold.”
“There seems to be a bit of a coal deposit here actually.” He said, poking at what just looked like a splot on the wall. “Here, I’ll retrieve it.” Using his Geo abilities he was able to crack some out of the wall. Putting it in s pile as you watched with fascination.
“You’re very well versed in rocks for a funeral director. Is it your geo vision or just your knowledge.” You asked.
“A mix of both, I’m quite well versed in the topic yes, but my vision does help.” He said. “Now we can use two rocks to make a spark.. we should be careful as coal leaves alot of smoke.” You took two stones and rubbed them against each other, looking to make a spark. It worked and a small flame started to grow.
“Excellent. We’ll stay here until the weather dies down.” You said, instinctively sitting next to him, leaning on him. He seemed a bit surprised. “O-oh sorry i didn’t mean to-“
“Oh it’s quite alright. It might help to cuddle for warmth. I hope you don’t mind.” He said politely.
“I-i don’t mind.” You said. His hand wrapped around you, not too tight but not to loose either. It felt rather nice like this. Your cheeks were tinted with red as he pressed himself against you.
“Are you comfortable right now?” He asked. You nodded. Maybe you should consider traveling with him a little more.
Kaeya
“You do know you’ll need more firewood than that.” Kaeya teased as you attempted to start a fire. You sighed.
“Then get some. Don’t just sit here and look pretty.” You grumbled as you rubbed the sticks together. He chuckled.
“Right right. And it was you who insisted they didn’t need a second jacket.” He smiled, you wore his cloak as he had offered it earlier.
“Well I didn’t expect us to stay the night here.”
“You should know a trip to dragonspine isn’t a one day venture. But with that out of the way, I’ll get some firewood.” He said leaving briefly. Just as he left you got the fire going. You smiled.
“See! I told you i could- oh right.” You said. Feeling his absence quickly. You huddled by the fire as you waited for him to come back.
It felt like he was gone forever when he finally came back. Arms full of firewood.
“Miss me?” He said as he noticed the frozen tears on your cheeks.
“No.. just come over here… you’re probably cold..” you said. Patting the ground besides you.
“Oh now you want to cuddle.” He smiled as he took your offer. Setting the firewood aside.
“You scared me you know..” you said.
“Well I just wanted to gather as much wood as possible. That way we can make it through the blizzard. These blizzards can last very long you know?” He snickered as you jolted.
“Don’t scare me like that!” You grumbled.
“I’m not trying to scare you. Just preparing you for the worst. Don’t worry, we have plenty of rations. And this fire is quite strong. You did a good job.” He smiled drawing his hand across your shoulder.
“Thanks..”you grumbled. You scooted closer to him as you felt a chill run down your spine. “I can’t wait to get out of here.”
“You’re cute when you’re grumpy like this. But you do realize we still haven’t made it halfway to Albedo’s office right?” He said. You stared at him with a look of defeat.
“Ugh! I’m never going to make it!” You whined.
“Oh you’ll live.” He chuckled. “I’m here afterall. I’ll drag you up that mountain if I have to.”
“Well… I guess its good I have you then. I’d probably be dead by now if I went by myself.”
“Oh please, Jean would never send a new night here alone. But your gratitude is appreciated.” He smiled.

Thoughts on rivalling lawyers Sterek AU? Like, state assigned defense attorney Stiles (the free "you have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you" kind) and expensive law firm, hired by the richest of the rich, prosecutor attorney Derek and they keep ending up on opposite sides of some of the same cases?
The true enemies to lovers, the common person vs rich dude.
Derek is from a family of lawyers, and from the time he could speak he knew he wanted to be just like his mother, who started her own firm. Raised rich. Each member of his family is very competitive, each with their own rich S.O. Derek is currently dating (tw) Kate from the agent family 🤢
Stiles on the other hand, came from a single parent household. On a cops salary. He saw the inside of the judicial system. At first he wanted to be a cop like his father, but once he saw an innocent man go to jail, he changed his mind.
Derek had been a lawyer for five years (i know nothing about lawyers) before stiles joined the scene. And from then on they become very competitive rivals. Derek makes fun of stiles for helping criminals get off, when his father is a cop. Stiles makes fun of Derek for being a “paid whore” and that the criminals that Derek gets off are far worse than the ones stiles does.
This all comes to head when they are at a bar together and have a one night stand. Stiles cannot believe that he was someone’s mistress. Derek on the other hand is reeling in shock, as he’s never had such a connection with Kate or any passed girlfriends.
Derek tries to forget. He goes home and fucks Kate through the night. He feels nothing, nothing compared to Stiles. He knew that him and Kate weren’t soulmates but the fact that there was no feeling anymore made him forget his attraction. He breaks up with Kate the next morning. It’s horrible, they’re both screaming at each other and so on. It’s the whole “I only dated you for your money and for your families name”. Derek although has little to no feelings for Kate, is devastated at the news that someone was only with him for the money. He looks at the people surrounding him, friends and such and starts cutting out his fake friends. He realizes that Stiles was a little correct about his lifestyle, so instead of trying to forget, he seeks Stiles out at every opportunity.
Stiles on the other hand tries so hard to stay away from Derek.
It doesn’t really work.
They continue being forced to work against each other. This lead to Derek fucking Stiles in the bathroom of a courthouse, a blowjob, and three hurried handjobs. Not in that order. This leads to infrequent dates and such. Their relationship becomes hot and cold, sometimes it’s sweet and other times it’s straight up toxic.
Unfortunately, these boys could not communicate healthily at all. Then comes a bid client for Derek and his families firm. After this one big case that Derek loses to stiles, he gets pissed. He lost his family the client, and on their date that night he takes it out on stiles, saying “it’s ironic that you called me a paid whore, when you come when I call” or something along those lines. Stiles breaks up with him immediately and tells Derek that he can’t believe he was thinking of making their relationship official, especially if that’s all Derek thought of him.
Derek is shocked completely at watching stiles cry, even worse at losing the chance to call stiles his. He tries to apologize but stiles won’t hear it and leaves. Derek is still in shock and doesn’t react until the gets home and sees the coffee that stiles bought in his apartment. He breaks down at the thought of losing someone who truly cared about him, at losing stiles.
He send stiles gifts as a way to apologize, but each on gets sent back. He can barely catch of glimpse of stiles outside of work. When they are in court stiles is down right ice, there’s no more banter.
And once again a big company client, a medicine brand hires the hale law firm. Stiles represents the people suing for damages. This time unfortunately, stiles loses. He goes down to a bar to down out his sorrow, and Derek finds him. He tries to apologize, tell him that he changed. Stiles gets pissed. He laughs, something dark and cruel not believing a single word he says . And then stiles lays into him, telling him that all he wanted to do was help people. Those companies that Derek represents would barely feel the pay out, but those people today had their lives ruined.
He tells Derek that he could never be with a man who sees no problem with that. Derek is falling apart, his sister try and console him. Kate comes back and tries to get him to sleep with her again. He tells her off. But to everyone else it looked liked they left together.
It’s as if the universe hates Derek as, Stiles and Derek don’t even interact as they no longer have cases that go up against each other. It takes a month and a half until Derek sees stiles again. At Allison and Scott’s wedding.
Derek sees stiles dancing with someone else. Stiles tells him that he has no right to be after getting back with Kate. Cue the angry confessions!!!
“BECAUSE IM IN LOVE WITH YOU”
They get back together, this times talking it very slowly, glacier slow. Allowing them to really get to know each other rather than relying on the intimacy of sex to base their relationship on. When they finally do have sex again, it’s six months into the relationship and is much more soft than before They dally madly and deeply in love with each other. And together they start a firm with each other later on.
The end ✨✨
Honestly I had no idea where I was going with this, but I hoped you liked it.

Was thinking about Ace Attorney x Project Moon and wondering how that'd even work. The City seems like a very "fend for yourself," "might makes right" type of place. There are definitely laws, and jail-type locations are shown (mainly in Limbus Canto 6.5-1,) but we never see any kind of "due process." It usually just seems like people are arrested as soon as they're suspected of something, and thrown in jail forever unless they're rich.
We do come across some kinds of "lawyers," such as the Fixers you encounter in the Reception of Mirae Life Insurance, but those are insurance lawyers/collectors. Really, the only types of law ever covered are insurance law, contract law, and patent law. We never see anything about civil disputes or criminal law.
They take care to stress that laws don't apply during the Night in the Backstreets, when the Sweepers come out, which means that there are laws and punishments surrounding violent offenses, at least within the Nests, and possibly in the Backstreets outside of nighttime. Property damage is highlighted as an especially heinous offense, and if my memory serves right, the only offense that you can still be punished for during the Night in the Backstreets.
Overall, we get info on insurance, contract, and patent laws, but very little on criminal and civil law. Those last two seem to only be viewed in the lens of "you'll get punished by someone if you violate them" but it seems heavily dependent on which District you're in. A lot of Districts seem to just be "shoot the violators" while some, like T Corp, do seem to have an imprisonment system, at least for Time Tax Evaders. But we never see any due process.
I do think it'd be cool, though. Ace Attorney style trials in the high-tech City environment, allowing both interesting new tricks in the crimes, and cool new ways to investigate them. Maybe a Fixer Office specializing in defense law, who is hired to defend people accused of crimes in court, using expensive technology to investigate crimes in more detail when the actual police force of The City just doesn't feel like doing their job.

Note
1. Is Kayson's hair natural or dyed? Does the sakuverse reflects realistic genetics or like fantasy genetics like the ones in anime where they could have any color of hair and eyes naturally?
2. If Isaac pushed through with his decision to be a lawyer, what field would he specialize in? Criminal defense? If he was, would he be picky about who he defends just as he is with his cases? Like would he defend a criminal that actually committed a crime?
3. If Isaac's family is still alive, what would they think of Isaac technically kidnapping Pickle? Isaac's mom would likely be proud that he helped someone, but what about his dad and grandpa?
4. We know Isaac pays Pickle about above minimum wage, but could you give us a range of how much he pays them per hour?
5. Very random but who among your characters peed their beds when they were little(aside from Elias)?
6. Does Pickle even do taxes? Ig their salary is probably paid in full by Isaac, but do they even need to pay taxes?
7. Before Isaac hired Pickle, how did he manage his time? Like since he's busy, would he just do chores while doing phone calls? And what kind of meals did he usually prepare for himself?
Kayson is an outlier seeing as when I made him as a character, there was no Sakuverse. So it's a 'we acknowledge it but we don't talk about it' with him. Unless I change it.
He'd likely go into criminal defence. But he wouldn't be picky about who we defends; his current job is ambiguous as well.
They would likely understand why he did it but wouldn't condone it.
It's per assignment, not hour. They can range depending on what it is. For one assignment, it could be $10,000. For another, $200,000.
Probably a lot, if not all. It happens~
Never thought about it.
He would do everything half-assed. Wipe something with a cloth here and there, and then forget to do the rest. For meals, it would be very simple, probably very microwaveable meals or things that can be heated up with little effort.

Nick Visser at HuffPost:
A top adviser to President-elect Donald Trump allegedly tried to profit from his relationship with the new administration, asking potential appointees for large retainer fees in exchange for promoting them to get plum jobs, according to multiple reports on Monday. An internal investigation by Trump’s own attorneys concluded Boris Epshteyn — a longtime aide who coordinated Trump’s criminal defenses in recent years — had asked at least two people for the monthly payments. One of those people was Scott Bessent, a billionaire hedge fund manager who was recently tapped to be the next treasury secretary.
The Washington Post notes Epshteyn invited Bessent to lunch at a Palm Beach hotel in February, where he asked him to pay a monthly stipend of at least $30,000 to promote his reputation around Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. Bessent, who was gunning for the Treasury Department job, declined, but Epshteyn later asked him to invest $10 million in a basketball league. Bessent also declined that overture.
Later, Bessent told Trump’s attorneys he believed he was being criticized to those in the president-elect’s orbit after the November election. Epshteyn, The New York Times reports, told the billionaire it was “too late” for him to be hired for a cabinet position while allegedly calling himself “Boris Fucking Epshteyn.” The pair also had a heated confrontation in the lobby at Mar-a-Lago last week, CNN added.
Epshteyn has denied the allegations. “I am honored to work for President Trump and with his team,” he said in a statement to media outlets. “These fake claims are false and defamatory and will not distract us from Making America Great Again.”
Corrupt sleaze Boris Epshteyn asked for payments from at least two people for large retainer fees in exchange for promoting them to get plum jobs, one of which is potential treasury secretary Scott Bessent.

Pitch for a reimagining of Ace Attorney:
1) The game’s title
ACE ATTORNEYS
2) What’s the major reimagining?
Instead of a detective game, the game is choice-based along the lines of Telltale (like Walking Dead) and Quantic Dream (like Detroit Become Human). So you can actually lose the case and still finish the game.
Also, instead of different episodes with its own case, we have three cases that are played out simultaneously. We switch off between the 3 protagonists, just like Detroit Become Human.
Lastly, this’ll be more realistic than the original games. For this write-up, I’m using my own personal experience as a lawyer-in-training.
3) Storylines
(Note: Keep in mind, all these storylines are happening simultaneously with each other. The game switches POVs)
Storyline A: Local fortune-teller Maya Fey has been arrested for the murder of her older sister, Mia. Maya hires defense attorney Phoenix Wright, who also brings on a co-counsel, Franziska von Karma, who recently passed the bar (reference to OG Franziska being really young). The prosecutor is Miles Edgeworth, who has no prior connection to Franziska and Phoenix in this reimagining.
Storyline B: Phoenix Wright is currently going through a bitter divorce against his wife, Dahlia Hawthorne-Wright. They are fighting over everything, such as ownership of the Wright Law Firm, their house, and all their other assets. Phoenix is represented by divorce attorney Apollo Gramarye while Dahlia is represented by divorce attorney Klavier Gavin.
Storyline C: Apollo’s sister, Trucy Gramarye, is a celebrity magician with her own Las Vegas show. Recently, she’s sued a copycat magician named Rayfa Padma Khura'in, who she alleges stole her entire routine. Trucy hires entertainment/IP lawyer Simon Blackquill, who brings along his newest attorney Athena Cykes since she just passed the bar and needs experience. In response, Rayfa hires her own attorney, Nahyuta Sahdmadhi (side note: based on the real life Penn and Teller case).
So we got 3 main cases in different fields; criminal, divorce (family), and intellectual property.
4) The protagonists (should be obvious)
* Phoenix Wright: protagonist of the Maya Fey murder storyline
* Apollo Gramarye: protagonist of the Phoenix Wright divorce storyline
* Athena Cykes: protagonist of the Trucy Gramarye copyright infringement storyline
5) Other major characters (not a complete list)
* Maya Fey: A local fortune-teller and the main client of Storyline A
* Mia Fey: Maya’s older sister and the victim of Storyline A
* Franziska von Karma: Phoenix’s co-counsel and the deuteragonist of Storyline A (she fulfills the role of “assistant”, but only because she’s a junior attorney helping the senior)
* Miles Edgeworth: The prosecutor and main antagonist of Storyline A (main antagonist since you don’t actually find the supposed real killer, your goal is ONLY to get an acquittal for Maya)
* Richard G. Sho: The lead detective of the Fey murder case
* Dahlia Hawthorne-Wright: Phoenix’s wife who he’s getting divorced from and the main antagonist of Storyline B.
* Iris Hawthorne: Dahlia’s twin sister who plays a major role in the divorce proceedings.
* Klavier Gavin: Dahlia’s attorney and the secondary antagonist of Storyline B.
* Ema Skye: The accountant working with both Phoenix and Dahlia when it comes to determining how to split their community property (because she’s “scientific”)
* Trucy Gramarye: Apollo’s sister and a celebrity magician working in Las Vegas. She is the client of Storyline C.
* Simon Blackquill: Athena’s senior attorney
* Rayfa Padma Khura’in: A copycat magician who is sued by Trucy for infringement. She is the main antagonist of Storyline C.
* Nahyuta Sahdmadhi: Rayfa’s attorney and the secondary antagonist of Storyline C.
6) How the stories could play out depending on the player’s choices
* Maya could either be acquitted or deemed guilty. That being said, it’s never made clear whether or not Maya is actually innocent, unlike the original games.
* Phoenix could either lose a lot in the divorce settlement or Dahlia could lose. This storyline is more to determine whether or not Phoenix has a happy or sad ending.
* Trucy could either successfully shut down Rayfa’s show or Rayfa could continue to perform. Just like Maya’s story, it’s not made clear whether or not Rayfa intended to steal Trucy’s performance or if it was just an unfortunate coincidence.
7) Miscellaneous storyline stuff
* A plot twist in the Fey murder case could be that the Feys were deep in debt and Maya may have murdered Mia for insurance money. Maya could say she had no knowledge of the insurance money, which the player can choose to believe or doubt.
* A plot twist in the Wright divorce case could be that Phoenix was cheating on Dahlia with Dahlia’s twin sister, Iris (who is a nun in this reimagining). This could be a major factor in who ends up prevailing in the settlement.
* A plot twist in the Trucy copyright case could be that Rayfa and Trucy were friends when they were starting out as amateur magicians. This could be a major factor in determining whether or not Rayfa knew about the details of Trucy’s magic tricks.
* Obviously, the storylines do cross over with each other. Apollo visits his sister which leads to him meeting Athena, Phoenix has to deal with both the murder case and his own divorce, Athena could learn about Phoenix through Apollo and Trucy, etc.

Note
since we are now admitting to our drabbles and stuff, i must share my old wip, 288 words, that will probably never get completed, should i keep tredding the road i am on. i called it screaming birds sound an awful lot like singing (from "the fruits" by paris paloma), and it goes as such:
He doesn’t have a mattress. His futon is bitten through by moths and rats, his fridge is never a quarter full, and he’s sure he’s going to become diabetic if he doesn’t stop eating so much goddamn ice cream. But, he repeats as he eyes his gaunt reflection, it can always be worse.
the plan was always this: oikawa is arrested and convicted of murdering his father in his family home with a simple pistol at age 17. though tried as a minor, he is sentenced to adult prison for twenty years, a light sentencing in light of the situation of the murder. he is released on good behavior and an agreement of a five-year parole; house arrest.
his dreams are effectively destroyed. he never went to argentina, and he can't play recreational volleyball per the parole. he isn't in contact with anyone he once knew, not even his family, who he is court-mandated to stay away from. he works at ben & jerry's since they are the only company that would hire him that isn't construction or trucking and is at a suitable distance from his shoddy, run-down apartment building in the middle of the poor, criminal enclave of miyagi. everyone on the floor is either impoverished or previously incarcerated.
he tells himself that it's okay that he doesn't have any food in his fridge; all of his earnings go to the monitor, the apartment, and his parents. he saves nothing for himself. he tells himself it's okay that he's emaciating because at least he isn't addicted to drugs like half of the other tenants on his floor. and, he has daichi, his parole officer! diachi is kind to him; he brings a hot meal and stays for longer than necessary to chat. the interrogation on his personal life is always a little uncomfortable, but prison taught him how to live with the uncomfortable.
anyway, he works the long day at ben & jerry's. and then he sees him through the window. iwaizumi. he freaks out, ducking behind the counter and praying his coworker will come and save him. well, his coworker is a bitch, and oikawa is forced to reunite with his childhood best friend, it being well into nine years since they last spoke; since iwaizumi went to university to study criminal law and justice, devotedly; since oikawa never returned iwaizumi's letters and always rejected his requests to call and talk.
it goes well, actually. life goes on after they reconnect, and life starts to actually improve for oikawa. then, the surprise happens: kageyama comes to visit oikawa's apartment, having gotten oikawa's address through iwaizumi (and iwaizumi, who thought it could be a good idea). their meeting goes... somewhat well, if not awkward. kageyama thanks oikawa for inspiring kageyama to be successful, that he is sorry that they cannot share the court as teammates nor competitors, and oikawa brings it in him to apologize. they share a cup of tea, and kageyama goes home.
the police break down oikawa's door the next day while iwaizumi is visiting. they shove him on the counter, bind his hands, and tell him that he is under arrest for the poisoning and murder of kageyama tobio.
and oikawa didn't do it. he is freaking out, but he now has a lawyer. a lawyer very willing to bring oikawa justice and keep him from being convicted of murder twice. to save him from his current humiliation of house arrest, and to preserve their life going forward.
iwaizumi hajime, 27, criminal defense lawyer, oikawa tooru, 27, murder convict and ben & jerry's eomployee, and sawamura daichi, 27, miyagi police/parole officer. that is the story.
i NEED someone to see the vision here. i need it injected into my VEINS. and i need to inject it into everyone else's, too. however, i am no good at writing criminal and court law, and i fear this will forever be pinging around in my head like a pinball machine. i figured i would infect you with it, too. you seem to enjoy it, just a little bit. hopefully i haven't misread.
First of, this is absolutely ‘send your drabble concepts to King hour’ it’s a pleasure doing business with you
secondly, I’m so proud of you for going from “barely reading Daichi fics” to including him as a third lead in your own fic outlines. Are you pandering to me? Absolutely, but I’ll take it as a win.
Now it would be easy for me merely to expand upon this idea, to throw in my 2 cents and a chicken sandwich and just see what i could spitball. But this is your story, and if you so choose to write it, i don’t want you to feel like i’ve tried to co opt it or think i know best. Who needs to hear me ask questions about whether or not oikawa actually did intentionally commit murder that first time, or who framed him the second time, or whatever have you, i’m sure you’ve already got your ideas. What I am going to do, in true me-you-fashion, is tangent into something only vaguely related that i want to talk about - the use of volleyball in haikyuu fanfictions.
Total Mania-Sama Response Word Count below the Cut: 1599. Proceed at your own damn risk.
fanfiction in general is a pretty weird thing, I think. Everyone has their own reasons for writing it. If you’re like me, however, the fan part of fanfiction tends to come secondarily. I don’t think anyone would be surprised to learn that “Time Enough” was written to satiate my desire to talk about and engage with time loop based philosophies, or that “This Is Not The End” is actually a really old concept I’d drafted as an original novel and then merely plonked the haikyuu boys down into when I decided I wanted to share it. No, although I love the show, with all my heart, this is merely my particular avenue for sharing the broader stories that I want to tell. Most authors will never be published - i am beyond lucky to be able to share my stories with the small community I have gathered online anyway. (of course, I do write more fanfiction-y fanfictions, of course, of course, that’s not up for debate, but my point is that there is a reason I don’t publish fanfiction for any of the other numerous pieces of media i adore. I just don’t need to. Haikyuu has me covered)
And one of the ways haikyuu has me covered is the sheer volume of stories available to be told - ie, so many canon characters that cover a wide array of archetypes, for pretty much any need. But one of the things that is inescapable when you write fanfiction - or, I suppose, when you write fanfiction well, is that the characters are always going to be the characters. (i’d like to think at this point I don’t need to feign hyper-modesty and I can admit I think I write well)
The haikyuu boys are always going to want to play volleyball.
“Soulmake Adventures” was conceived with complete disconnect from the broader haikyuu canon and instead was meant to entertain the idea of a Under 30’s Singles Club in a soulmate Au. And I could not prevent the characters from playing volleyball, rather significantly - Oikawa himself! Placed merely as the receptionist as a fun balance to the theme of the story, still ends up having a personal arc revolving around the recovery of an injury, moving to Argentina and getting back into semi-professional volleyball. The Adlers are still the Adlers, and MSBY is still MSBY - Tsukishima is still on the Frogs, Iwa is still a personal trainer.
“Paranormality” by all accounts should not have ended as it did. If this were an original novel, the boys would be the scooby-doo gang. But I presented myself with an impossible task. I gave Oikawa a personal plotline that revolved around belief in oneself, about belief in others, about the power and strength that you can grow simply from the conviction that you, yes, you, can do more than you think, that there is more to the world than you think, and I expected Oikawa Fucking Tooru to not use that to persue volleyball? There was no natural way to have Oikawa end Paranormality in Japan. He had to be who he was, that’s the point of the fucking story - Even if the narrative tells me that his character, his Sherlock to Daichi’s Watson, should have ended with them teaming up and taking the world by storm. But it didn’t work. Because Oikawa isn’t that character, Oikawa is more selfish, he’s arrogant, and he wants what he wants and he believes that he belongs on the volleyball court. It is his greatest love, first and foremost… even in fanfictions in which volleyball is supposedly merely an afterthought. They discovered that monsters and aliens are real, and Oikawa still chooses to go to Argentina to play volleyball.
So why am I telling you, someone who already loves Oikawa, about his character? Well, because you said in this story that a feature of it is Oikawa’s life being destroyed at 17 - never getting to make those big choices, never getting to go overseas, never playing professionally, hell, probably never playing again at all. And a part of me - the part of me that has used volleyball as a metaphor for hope and society in “The End”, the part of me that knows that Oikawa would rather chew off his own arm then give up volleyball, wants to admit that it would be easy, in your criminal law haikyuu fanfiction essay, to have Iwa and Oikawa reconnect with or through volleyball. To have scenes of them tossing that ball back and forth, to feel their old selves reignite through the game, that first toss after ten odd years to that first spike. It would be easy. And yet, and yet, I would daresay if I am to try and inflict my influence upon you and your writing, I would caution against it. Volleyball to a haikyuu fanfiction is like a torch for canon, it pulls the characters in and makes them make sense, and it’s easy to use it, then, as a way to say “hey, look, these characters are healing, these characters are returning to how they’re supposed to be.”
But that feels antithetical to the things that are great about what this is supposed to be. Yes, a story of a broken, rundown Oikawa suffering and slowly regaining his identity through the sport that he onced loved works, very well, but you know what works even better than that, in my not-so-humble opinion? Oikawa slowly realizing that he doesn’t love the game anymore, but has been grieving the loss of “who he was supposed to be” so severely that he has hindered himself from feeling or being anything more than just “someone who failed to be who they were meant to be.” Nobody is meant to be anything, we are all merely following passions or desires and what makes us feel good. And I feel, for a story like this, to watch Oikawa grasp at straws when we all know it is far too late for him to ever go professional, would feel miserable more than anything else. To have him play that game with Iwaizumi, as if to say “hey, weren’t we better when we were 17?” instead of letting him connect to Iwaizumi as adults, to fall in love as adults, to be whoever they damn well fucking want to be, “supposed to have been” be damned.
I love the idea of an Oikawa realizing that, although it was or is natural to wish things had been different, to hate where he is, that there isn’t any joy for him in volleyball anymore. Not in an angsty, horrible, “your life peaks at 18” sort of way, but in the “I need to move on and be better than I was” sort of way. I do not think, for the purposes of your story, that there is any great tragedy in an Oikawa who heals by learning he is more than the stuff he had lost, more than the person Iwaizumi had once thought he was going to be. Iwa, after all, in this au, has given up the sport as well to help Oikawa, and I’d like to imagine that he does not miss it either. It does not dominate their identities.
perhaps, partially, this is inspired by the fact that I recently got ahold of some translations for a few chapters of the haikyuu light novels, one of which includes post timeskip Daichi, Suga and Asahi reconnecting after some time, and has a very… very fascinating few paragraphs written by what had to have been an adult, of Asahi mulling over the fact that he does not, actually, care much about not playing volleyball anymore, and that it probably wasn’t as beautiful as the rose-coloured glasses he wears are. He talks fondly about how Suga is changing the world for the better as a teacher, how Daichi is protecting people as a cop - he laments that he is not so obviously beneficial to society. He talks a little bit about how it felt to be an ace, but only because he feels good to be good at something. He does not - none of them - miss it in a way that matters.
Volleyball is so easy to write into haikyuu fanfictions because the characters seem to crave it like they need air, their very core is built around this sport and the impact it has in their lives. But I just really am passionate about this, that this story you’ve presented, as lovely and complicated and interesting as it is would not benefit from backsliding Oikawa into who he was at 17. You just don’t need to.
that being said, I would also like to see it be done more Criminal Minds than James Bond - I’d like it to be political, to be legal, to take place in courtrooms and over paperwork, where most actual criminal cases occur. As much as I would love it to also include a scene in which Daichi (swayed by Iwaizumi’s argument?) follows their lead and gets to chase down some fucking assassin (who the HELL wants Kageyama dead?), I think the story would be much better served in courtrooms and police stations, with Oikawa and Iwaizumi pouring over defense arguments and scouring security footage to prove his innocence, for Oikawa to learn to fight for himself through the quiet and methodical practices of a criminal attorny. Or whatever the hell it was you said Iwa was, I don’t have the ask in front of me as of the time of writing.
Anyway that’s all thanks for the ask 😘
