~ When Nodoka was in the hospital with her illness, she played tons of video games! She doesn’t play them as much as she used to, since she’s all better and gets to run around again. But she still occasionally gets her console out as a way to relax.

“You play video games?”

“Yeah! I used to a lot more when I was in the hospital.”

“Cool. So what games do you play?”

“I love Animal Crossing, Kirby, Mario…”

~ When she found out that you’re a gamer, she asked you what kind of games you play. She plays cute and wholesome games, as they’re a nice escape from reality. So she’ll be really excited of you play those too. But even if you don’t, she still takes interest in the games you do play.

“Oh, I like Mario! Do you play Mario Kart?”

“Not a lot haha. I’m not very good…”

“Oh. Well I can help you if you want.

“Really? Okay!”

~ If you’re playing a game she wouldn’t play herself, she’ll gladly sit and watch, as long as you’re okay with it. Even if it’s a violent game, she forces herself to sit through it, so you’re not alone. She may not get it, but it’s what you like.

“Wow! You’re so good! You’re beating everyone!”

“Thanks. I play this a lot haha.”

“Oh, you won! Great job!”

“Thanks!”

~ Nodoka isn’t very good at competitive games. She tends to put in too much focus, and fails to notice that she’s losing. But she still has lots of fun playing with you, even if she gets twelfth place in Mario Kart. Spending time with her friend is more important to her than winning!

“Ah! Another shell hit me!”

“Aww, that’s too bad.”

“Now I’m last…”

“Well, it would help if you weren’t driving backwards.”

“Oh.”

~ Besides some apps on her phone, Chiyu isn’t the kind of person to play video games. Don’t get her wrong, she doesn’t hate them. They just aren’t one of her hobbies. Besides, she doesn’t have too much time to play them anyways.

“What’s that you’re playing?”

“Don’t tell me you’ve never heard of (favorite game) before.”

“I… haven’t.”

“No way. Do you live under a rock or something?”

“I don’t really play video games haha…”

~ She mostly doesn’t mind when you play them. Everyone should be able to enjoy their interests! But she does get annoyed if you play them during school or when you’re supposed to be hanging out with them. It bothers her when you’re distracted when you’re supposed to be doing other things.

“(name), put that away! We’re in class!”

“But class hasn’t started yet.”

“Well if you get it taken away, I won’t feel bad for you.”

~ Even though she’s not a gamer herself, she won’t say no to playing a game with you and the others! If it’s an activity everyone’s doing, then she sees no problem in participating. It may take her a while to get the rules and controls though.

“What are you doing, Chiyu?”

“I’m trying to jump.”

“That’s not how you jump. You’re supposed to press this button.”

“Oh.”

~ Depending on the game you’re playing, she may occasionally enjoy watching you. Seeing your skills up close is so mesmerizing to her. As someone who doesn’t play video games, she can’t understand how you’re so good! However, if you play violent games, she’s not a fan. So don’t expect her to watch you chop someone’s head off.

“Ah! You shot him!”

“Well, yeah. That’s what you’re supposed to do in this game.

“That’s so violent…”

~ Hinata loves video games! Whenever she sees you playing one, she always asks about it, and watches over your shoulder. If you two own the same game, she gets you to friend her, so you can play together!

“Yeah.”

“I love that game! Send me a friend request!”

~ If you’re ever looking for a gaming partner, she’s your girl. She’s competitive and chatty, so you always have fun! She prefers playing games with others rather than playing by herself. So she’d never say no to an invite!

“Eat my dust!”

“Haha, people actually say that? Anyway, how about you eat my blue shell instead?”

“Ah! No!”

~ When she’s not playing with you, she’s cheering for you! She’s a firm believer that cheering makes you do better! So yes, it may get a bit annoying, but she’s just trying to help you!

“You can do it, (name)!”

“Ow! That was right in my ear!”

“Oops, sorry!”

“And you don’t have to cheer for every little thing I do…”

“But it can make you play better!”

~ Hinata’s always for trying new things. So if a game you’re playing looks interesting to her, she’ll try it out! She loves bonding over similar interests, so she’ll be happy if you both play the same games!

“Really? I didn’t know you’re into these kind of games.”

~ Asumi has never heard of a video game in her short life. So it’s safe to say that she was pretty captivated the first time she saw you playing one. She had no idea you could play as a tiny person in a tiny world, all from the power of your own hands. She’ll never understand how it works, no matter how many times you tell her.

“So pushing that stick makes you walk around?”

“Yup! And look what happens when I press this button.”

“Oh, you jumped.”

“Yeah. Have you really never seen or played a video game before?”

~ She adores watching you play. While she may not get it, it sure is entertaining! She tries her best not to ask too many questions or distract you. She knows how much focus it can take, and she’d hate to ruin it.

“That game looks so confusing. How does (name) play it?”

“I understand it! And so does Asumi!”

“I actually don’t understand at all. I just like watching.”

~ It does concern her whenever you play games on the violent side. Sure, she’s a Pretty Cure, but you’re causing violence for fun. She just doesn’t get it. You have the ability to be anything and do anything, yet you choose to harm others? But she figures that it’s all fictional, so she shouldn’t look too much into it.

“Why did you… destroy… that man?”

“Because I need gold.”

“So you do that for money?”

“I know it sounds bad… but it’s just a game, I swear!”

~ Playing video games with her is an… interesting experience. You’d expect her to suck, since she’s never played before. But somehow, she always ends up unintentionally beating you every time! You’d try sneaking up on her while she’s running into a wall, when all of a sudden, she kills you in one shot! And it’s never on purpose either!

“Ugh! You beat me again! How do you keep doing that?”

“I’m not sure. I don’t even know how to play the game very well…”

“How do you win on accident?”

   She was happy for them.

   She really, truly was but there was something about them that made Chiyu’s stomach churn. She didn’t get it. Because she was happy for them. Of course she was happy for them.

   Hinata and Nodoka were her best friends in the world. Of course Chiyu was going to be happy for them. Even if deep down she wasn’t because it made her realise that she was on the shore’s edge rather than in the water with them. When, in their own little world, they had decided that they like-liked each other and so entered a relationship together and consequently came out. They became girlfriends and they were the cutest girlfriends in the whole wide world. That made Chiyu a third wheel, however, but they were still… friends.

   Friends.

   That word alone made Chiyu feel even worse.

   Once upon a time, it had been one of her most favourite words in the world. They were friends! The camaraderie they basked in, in the afterglow of adrenaline after defeating monsters together or prepping for tomorrow’s pop quiz meant the world to her. Now, such shining, glimmering ideals dwindled for her as the green eyed monster awakened inside of her soul of blue.

   She wondered when it had started for them. Even though she was their bestest friend in the world, she wasn’t privy to everything. Either exactly or apparently. She could guess, though. When the binding power of magic and elements brought them together. That would be a good start.

   They did seem to get on especially well. Nodoka wasn’t overly handsy or touchy-feely but Hinata was the exact opposite. She was always holding Nodoka’s hands, or hugging her. Whether it was a small hug or a humongous hug, Hinata was very free with how she showed how much Nodoka meant to her as a friend. That was their dynamic. Not Chiyu’s dynamic with them, however. 

   Chiyu struggled to recall when Hinata showed Chiyu the same affection, preferring words with her. At first, Chiyu chalked it up to her not being a very physical touch as a love language person either but that theory didn’t make much sense when she thought about how she and Nodoka had that in common. 

   Maybe that’s when it started. When Hinata started to spill out the sides of her brim and it became especially noticeable around Nodoka even though affection between two teenage girls wasn’t something to bat an eyelash at.

   So, in hindsight, it really wasn’t so out of the blue for anyone who was out of the loop with the ever changing and fluid relationships and drama of middle school. Chiyu would know well, though. She had been standing beside them for the past year and then some, shoulder to shoulder, blissfully unaware that their pinkies were getting closer and closer to linking so they could become exclusive.

   It was crazy, they were just teenagers, she could see them going all the way - but the thought of them at the altar, ten years from now and on her on the sidelines, that made her heart hurt. It became undeniable by this point. Chiyu had spent more time - probably - thinking about how her best friends were girlfriends than they did about each other.

   It just wasn’t something they talked about either. Nodoka, ever a sorry girl, wouldn’t want Chiyu to feel excluded so she didn’t talk too much about the nitty-gritty of her and Hinata’s relationship. It just made sense, didn’t it? The two were inseparable, and despite the embargo, their hands still were held by each other, they played footsies during lunch and pecked each other goodbye after school.

   It was so sweet and saccharine. The dramatic highs and lows of first love.

  First love that Chiyu had no business to drop herself into but really wanted to. Chiyu was curious even though Nodoka was, politely, stonewalling her. She wanted to know what had been said, where it had been said, and more. But that wasn’t her place to know, Chiyu knew well but knowing well did little to settle her torrid feelings on the feelings.

   Feelings that she had no other choice but to look head on in the dark of jealousy.

   She loved them like how they loved each other but not like her.

   For herself, though, she did know. Chiyu knew when she started to feel more than just friendly with her two best friends in the world. 

   Hinata’s smile ignited a spark in her, she was always in a shower of sunshine, it seemed and that made Chiyu happy, too. She could always count on Hinata for a laugh, even when things seemed gloomy, like if she had a sprained ankle and had to sit out practice for a week because of it.

   Then there was Nodoka. Sweet, hopeful Nodoka whose quietness was compatible with her own. She saw the world in such a brighter way than Chiyu and she wanted to share in that admiration, in those firsts that Nodoka had been denied for so long due to being restricted to her hospital bed. She was what had brought that magic into Chiyu’s humdrum everyday and it was nothing less than life changing for them both. 

   All three of them became a powerful force of nature - emissaries of the Healing Garden together - but afterwards, when it dissipated, what was left?

   Chiyu felt as though she were on the outside looking in. Left without a leg to stand on. Her path was leading her away from the paths of the two most important people in her life (her family notwithstanding). The trio that they were was a trio no more because of the shift from three friends on equal standing - the bestest friends in the world, vowed together underneath that old oak tree - to two girlfriends and one friend.

   Chiyu wanted to go back to it.

   She also wanted to see a future where she was not sidelined.

   The conclusion was inevitable as it was out of ordinary but they were three, extraordinary girls.

   “So what did you want to tell us?” Nodoka asked, her eyes big and bright and shining.

   Chiyu smiled. Her heart pounded in her chest. It wasn’t the same as when they had gone out of their way and into the faraway meadows in the nearby city but it was close enough. Maybe even better than close enough because she had asked to meet Nodoka and Hinata by the flowerbeds in the park nearby Nodoka’s house. The very place where it had all begun for her, and by extension them, when she became Cure Grace.

   Chiyu smiled, albeit nervously, and took a deep breath. Her fingers curled in against her palm and she raised her hand to in front of her breast. She could feel her heartbeat emanate through and for a second, before she answered, Nodoka’s question, she relished the thrill. She couldn’t help it. It was a new thrill but adrenaline was adrenaline and adrenaline had been her company through many highs and lows of sporting events so she drew on that to quell her nervousness.

   “I’ve been thinking, recently,” she began, facing both curious faces of Nodoka and Hinata, and into a sunbeam which came through the foliage of the tree-heavy park, “about how I feel. I-I’m not expecting you to feel the same but I like you both.”

   “Huh?” Hinata gulped. “Like, like-like us?”

   “Oh my.” Nodoka exclaimed on a soft exhale of her breath.

   “Yes.” Chiyu said. “I’ve been struggling. I feel left out, I feel jealous but deep down, what I feel most, is that I like you both. Romantically.”

   “You’ve felt left out?” Nodoka asked to clarify, horrified.

   “Only a little.” Chiyu admitted with a tiny, guilty shrug.

   “Aaack, Nodocchi and I are such a dumb PDA couple aren’t we?!” Hinata grumbled.

   Chiyu laughed, “You are but it's cute.”

   “I have to say though…” Nodoka murmured. “That makes sense? I have thought you were distant ever since Hinata and I came out as a couple. I-I was worried we had done something wrong but it's relieving to know that’s not the case.”

   “Yeah, yeah, I’d noticed too!” Hinata added.

   “So?” Chiyu asked, her heart thudding in her chest. “Do you feel the same or… otherwise?”

   “The same!” Hinata and Nodoka both replied in unison, their voices raised.

   Chiyu jumped and was pounced on. Both girls reached out and took one hand of hers each. Nodoka’s hands were pale and delicate, Hinata’s were moisturised and adorned with acrylic nails.

   “I-I feel the same.” Nodoka stammered and glanced at Hinata.

   “Me too.” Hinata agreed. “Chiyuchi, you are… our precious friend. Honestly, it's been boring without you on our dates so thank you for coming clean about your feelings. We’ve always been a team, so… it makes sense. The more the merrier.” 

   “Exactly.” Nodoka beamed. “We care about you deeply, Chiyu, so thank you for being honest with your feelings and honestly… Putting puzzle pieces in place for me, as well, I-I want you and Hinata by my side for as long as possible.”

   “Mm, mm, mm.” Hinata nodded her head furiously in agreement.

   Half a chuckle bubbled up through Chiyu’s throat as she processed what Nodoka had said and how cutely Hinata had concurred. Chiyu felt as though her heart had stopped. That this couldn’t be real! She couldn’t believe her ears. Being a practical young woman, Chiyu hadn’t once dared to imagine what would follow her confession unto Hinata and Nodoka but this… this was better than she could have hoped.

   Overwhelmed by emotion, she couldn’t help herself and shed a singular tear. It streamed down the side of her face as she was overcome with joy. Her face lit by a splendid smile.

   “I-I’m so glad.” Chiyu replied and she squeezed both their hands back in affirmations of her feelings.

   Of all their feelings.

Healin Good Precure Final Verdict and thoughts on Tropical Rouge Precure!

First off, sorry I haven’t been around that much to even talk about Healin Good. First, I just kinda lost interest in doing reviews for a while and then some personal snit just had to be thrown in when I really wanted to discuss somethings. So this review is kinda gonna be slightly unorganized but I’ll do my best and I’m really sorry about Precuruary again not being this year. This past year has been whoo! Just yeah...Anyway! I will try to be more active when I can be but I can’t make any promises right now. So onto the review! 

I know every year I’ve said that each precure seems a little better than the previous ones in some aspects. Like for example, Star Twinkle I felt was a little better than Hugtto in terms of overall enjoyment and characters, but it lacked developing the plot and the lackluster in the personality of the princesses. They could have had each princess have the certain traits expected from their signs such as Virgo being a perfectionist and Aries being hot tempered. 

Than again, maybe it’s cause I just think anything is better than Kira Kira! lol! I know I get a little harsh with that series. Given the other series that came before and after, can you blame me? There are better series than that. (In my opinion, anyway.)

Healin Good, I can definitely say this was a good ride for both plot, character, music and animation! Yes, the designs for the cures were a little lack luster and I still can’t help but get Cure Flora vibes from Grace, but eventually, I got used to it. In fact, while I know it was the anniversary of Yes Precure 5 Go Go!, I almost felt like they should have just made that into a separate movie and have Healin Good meet Go Princess since the cures there have a lot in common!

But of course being their own thing. They’re not copies of the GoPre girls, but they share definitely some things in common such as Cure Grace and Cure Flora’s flower theme, Cure Sparkle and Cure Twinkles love for fashion and star themes and Cure Fountain and Cure Mermaid for the water themes.

In terms of plot, it wasn’t like the most amazing plot ever, but it was decent and coherent. It was a serviceable plot that did the bare minimum and not be too crazy and outlandish and the morals at least made more sense unlike Twinkle. There was no getting grumpy dog people to learn to smile and be happy. 

Yes, the one thing that doesn’t make sense is how Cure Earth came to be and I will admit she as well as Fountain are the least interesting girls. I know people love Fountain/Chiyu! For me, blue cures have interesting stories but a personality that doesn’t fit it. They’re okay but I always feel like they’re just the cool kid that’s typically the responsible role model and nothing more, with the exception of Cure Marine and Cure Beauty, the later fits that role but she also has a bit more to her in terms of personality. The backstory for Fountain/Chiyu doesn’t make sense either. She sees the horizon line between the ocean and the sky and wants to jump that high. Then at first she’s just sees high jump as fun, which annoys a rival of hers and thus she’s pressured to like it more than just a school thing. It’s weird and almost complicated...

Cure Earth/Asumi is sorta a motherly kind of character since she’s in her 20s in appearance, but still a fish out of water. I’m glad they didn’t make her a teen so she had to go to school with the girls and she’s like the first adult main cure (Like I get Cure Flower, ancient cures and the Hugtto Cures, but I’m talking as in the main team member and not a side character type thing.) Which is nice, it shows that yes adults can be heroes. I mean we had adult superheroes all the time and the teen was just the less experienced side kick. 

As for personality, she’s a bit of a blank slate but I love her design! I know Green Cure and all wah, but hate to say it, the more people complain that there isn’t a green cure in every season, the more I’m kinda glad cause people get sooo uptight like they’re whitewashing a character or something. Like stop! It’s just a team color for Pete’s sake! Like even if they did her as a green cure, she’s kind of bland in personality so would you be happy with a green cure that’s sorta the blank slate?

I’m not saying she’s bad. She can be funny and it can be enjoying to watch her understand feelings and things since while an adult physically, she was basically born out of a whim and only knows how to talk and understand the basis of the Healing Garden as well as Princess Latte and Queen Teatinu. Shoot, she couldn’t even eat on her own.

My two favorite characters by far have to be Nodoka aka Cure Grace and Hinata aka Cure Sparkle. Hinata is just a fun character. She’s emotional, got a go getter attitude and I like the fact she’s into fashion but isn’t over the top annoying or particularly snobby, kinda like Cure Twinkle but different that Cure Twinkle has more of a professional attitude and higher skills, while Cure Sparkle is a bit clumsy and overly excited about everything. She has insecurities and flaws but thanks to Nodoka and Nyantoran, she gets over these rather quickly.

As for Nodoka, I know people are disappointed that her illness turned out nothing more than Daruzen, I don’t blame them for going this route. Yes, it kinda gives an unrealistic impression that the disease just simply needs to jump out of someone and they’ll be okay. I can’t help but think it might have backfired especially given the time since we had the you know what virus. So many kids were watching their families get destroyed and while, yes, it would be good to teach kids to stay strong and fight through it and that it takes time for people to recover fully, it could also be too overbearing for them as well if they happen to have a loved one who is sick or they themselves and are just constantly reminded of the suffering.

Put it short, there’s kind of no best way around it. You can either do it this way and there might be some kids that think well the virus can just jump out or do it the other way and risk kids getting depressed and anxious, which would be bad as depression and anxiety in kids has risen a lot since 2020. For me, I think kids are smarter than we give them credit. They are gonna be aware that stuff in cartoons/anime works differently than in the real world, so I feel like the route they took was better. It was already risky having the main character be sick and being put in the hospital to begin with.

With that being said, Nodoka is a good character for more reasons than her being sick and fighting an illness. She wants to be supportive because she needed support. Just because her illness turned out to be some alien germ from another dimension, doesn’t make her desire to help any less meaningful. She did suffer a lot, fought through pain and suffering through an unknown amount of time. Just cause she healed miraculously doesn’t make her suffering not real and her inspiration and influence on others less so.

Bottom line, it doesn’t matter how she healed, she still suffered, got inspire by those who helped her and thus inspired those to work hard on getting better. The message is still there.

But there is another thing that makes her special and that is when Nodoka told Daruzen off! That alone was the most inspiring thing ever done in a Precure series in a LONG time! It’s not just her standing up to a bully. She stood up to her abuser! And yes, I do like Daruzen and at first I thought they would be a cute couple, but I will admit when Daruzen took things too far and as someone that’s been sexually harassed and known people who were forced on, I can’t push forward with the ship or Daruzen for that matter. 

When Daruzen needed help, Nodoka pushed him away and then he outright made her feel bad about it. “I thought you were about helping others.” This is a tactic used by abusers, taking advantage of the kindness their victim usually has and congrats to Rabirin for being the best partner to a Precure. 

Nodoka holds no responsibility for Daruzen. He used her thus abused her, he caused so much pain not only onto her but to those around her. Put it short, Nodoka doesn’t owe Daruzen anything! That to me is one of the most important lessons to teach anyone especially young kids. It’s good to teach others to be kind and forgive folks, but if you don’t want to than don’t especially if they have done nothing but hurt you. Your health including mental health comes first above all else. It’s not selfish especially if the one needing help was selfish first and didn’t think about you in the long run.

So as much as I think that Daruzen X Nodoka could have been cute, I can’t help but applaud Toei for going this route instead. Especially these days, I feel it’s really important teach kids that it’s okay to think of what’s best for you, including putting a limit on helping people and setting boundaries. I’ve known even family members and friends that were in this situation where they had to stop helping someone, because that person took advantage of them and they had to put their foot down, cause they had to finally think of their own health and well being. It’s not selfish. It’s important to take care of yourself first!

Speaking of mascots, all the mascots are useful including Latte, which is the main mascot that is in peril the most since the villains make her sick. However, she is far from a passive pup as some people pass her off as. She does know when to put her paw down and even in the midst of her suffering, she does try when she can to help. Even go as far as refusing Nodoka’s care until she and Rabirin settle their differences to work together. She also has the ability to sense when the earth needs help and is the only animal that can do this. She also refuses Cure Earth’s/Asumi’s overly servitude towards her, showing she knows when to speak out about her own well being. True Latte doesn’t get too much to shine but when she does it’s rather welcomed.

Normally with mascots, I don’t care for them since they tend to be typically one note. The mascots for Healin Good are all memorable with their own personality  and they grow along side their respected cures. The only mascots I know that grew a lot was Yes! Precure 5/Go! Go’s Coco, Nuts and Milky, Go Princess Precure’s Aroma and Puffu. Mofurun only showed much growth in the movie where they became a cure. Though Mofurun is still more useful than the mascots in Kira Kira. (Yes, I will always take the opportunity to slam on that series!)

Speaking of Kira Kira...Oh boy. Well I was a little excited to finally have an ocean themed precure series with a mermaid, my excitement kinda dropped when I noticed the transformation compact and transformation. I’m gonna go a head and review the first episode since I watched it. 

I’ll first start off the with positives and move on to what I wouldn’t say are horrible things, but more so my overall concerns with it.

First, like others, I’m glad we got a lead cure that isn’t pink for once. This is a first since Splash Star Precure, whom I don’t think Cure Bloom counts. I mean in the first season, she kinda is pink, but then when she becomes Cure Bright her colors change so I kinda count her as being mix color, while Cure Dream was the first official Pink Cure.

I also like that while Manatsu/Cure Summmer is another happy go lucky type, she does have a bit more zest and isn’t the overall cutesy happy go lucky cures we’ve come to know. She’s different from Cure Star and Cure Yell, in which she’s happy go lucky in a more of a hot headed sense, than the cute, been bullied but still brave kid which was Cure Star and Yell.

Manatsu/Summer reminds me of Lina Inverse from Slayers and other similar red head characters from that era, which makes sense she is a red head. (Least Manatsu is).

The transformation and battle scenes are better too. I was worried that because the pact and start of the transformation looked so similar to Kira Kira, I was worried it would be exactly the same but it’s different enough it seems. My only gripe is that maybe Cure Summer’s final pose at the end for her transformation sequence could have been a bit more dramatic. Her pose look lack luster compared to the rest of her transformation.

The animation in Cure Summer’s attack is amazing but the 3D part of is a little distracting somewhat. I feel like the sun could have been done in 2D. Other than that, animation is gorgeous! Bright and colorful with nice detailing within the characters and background.

I also can’t help adore Cure Coral/Sango’s design and character. She hasn’t appeared that much, but already I kinda already adore her! She’s so precious and I can tell she’s already gonna be a fan favorite among many! I also like how she seems sweet and quiet but isn’t shy either. She’s rather just down to earth, just doing her own thing but still being polite. Refreshing take especially on a purple cure!

Now onto my issues with it. Starting with a bit too many similarities to Kira Kira such as the transformation pact and the overly energetic, silly theme. I don’t mind silly when it’s balanced out right. For me, it’s a bit too crazy and kinda the issue I had with Cure Princess and sometimes Cure Marine. I get that it’s about motivation VS procrastination. I hope they work it out to teach kids there’s an importance of both. Just teach that you need a bit of balance. Right now, it’s just not. Manatsu kinda gets on my nerves a little bit and then you have Laura...

I kinda have mix feelings about Laura. On one hand, I do relate to her. She’s a little vain and I like the fact that despite being a main character, she’s actually quite selfish! Her whole desire to do this mission is out of hope that she’ll be the next Queen, which apparently, the current Queen isn’t her mom I guess, but she’s chosen to be in line and she seems to want to be Queen simply for the selfish reason to be praised and adored, not cause she wants to help her people. I like this for the fact that it makes her far different from Cure Milky/Lala, whom many have said she was probably a little too responsible for her age, but I digress, Lala/Cure Milky is one of my favorite cures. 

What I’m concern is the fact that Laura will outshine the cures and take over the spotlight especially when she becomes a Cure. There’s no denying this will happen especially since it’s been confirmed the Midseason Cure is called Cure Le Mer, which is her last name. She seems to already outshine the mascot for the series Kururun, who is the first mascot to not meet the lead cure in the first episode because the poor thing barely gets any screen time!

I noticed this especially when the products for the series came out that Kururun is barely in any of the merchandise. I guess after focusing so much on the mascots for three seasons, having at least one be the token mascot to save all humanity, they decided “Eh, lets just make a mermaid the star seller and just have the mascot be squeezed in for those who want a stuffed animal.”

I get that the Midseason cures tend to take over the spotlight anyway, but I don’t always agree. Cure Scarlet and Cure Earth kinda grew along side the other cures. Taking time for both them and another Cure or character to shine as well. With Laura, because she’s already part of the group, hopefully won’t  outshine  the cures, but being how much they merchandise and show her off, it’s looking a bit bleak for anyone who isn’t Manatsu/Cure Summer when Cure Le Mer takes the stage.

I also fear since the series was announce that Asuka/Cure Flamingo maybe too much like Cure Chocolate given how her design is similar. I love her design, her’s is my favorite design of the bunch, but you can’t deny she looks like Cure Chocolate with longer hair. I hope they give her and the other cures more personality and growth especially before Laura becomes a cure.

Other than those gripes, I don’t hate it and do like some things about it. Maybe I’m just used Healin Good’s more relaxed theme that I’m kinda skeptical for this more wild, eccentric series. Maybe it will grow on me in time. Hoping it does since as said, been wanting an ocean themed Precure series with mermaids in it for a looong time!

Without further a due, I give Healin Good Precure 8 out of 10 stars. Won’t rate Tropical Rouge Precure until the end of the season. Seeya in the next review!

My top ten favorite favorite cures! Hello everyone these are my top ten favorite cures! These are mine opinions and you can disagree with them if you want! Without further ado let’s get started!

10. Cure Happy/Miyuki

The first cure that I was introduced, was smile pretty cure! Cure happy holds a special place in my heart as she reminds of me! Energetic, funny and spunk! Of course she hides her flaws that until meeting Candy and becoming a pretty cure, that she revealed some her flaws and background to her friends.

9. Cure Milky/ Lala

Cure Milky so have some similarities with me! Being that fact that she different than everyone else that being an alien and going to the public school. Not the same thing as me but, similar, I also had to go a public school after being in private school for so long. All three other schools not accepting my deletion feeling like they weren’t the right fit. However, that being said I also felt being alien in my public school not knowing anybody. However that changed when a bunch of girls invited to their lunch table and quickly became friends with them. Kinda of same with Lala and her situation, becoming friends slowly with other people that were different from her. That’s why I’m putting her at number 9!

8. Cure Sparkle/ Hinata

Even though season isn’t over! I’m putting Cure Sparkle at number 8 for reasons. Those reasons that there some theories that she might have some learning disabilities being the first magical girl with disabilities, particularly might having ADHD. Although it not confirmed yet if this is the case, this would be the first magical in Japanese anime to have disabilities and it’s very rare for it to mention let alone have few characters who might disabilities. Hinata might have the mild case of it, I can relate to because I also have ADHD. Just in my case, it a lot worse having the severe kind. Now they haven’t confirmed yet they might hit on this point later hopefully! Hinata having ADHD would a have a massive impact in the future seasons hopefully getting more representation of people with disabilities! Now I won’t go in depth now about the implications of it, but this is why Cure Sparkle is number 8!

7. Cure Melody/Hibiki

Cure Melody is number seven! Although her parents aren’t divorce like mine, her mom is out the picture a lot which leads into her father raising her most of time. This is similar, but instead having my mom taking care of me most of the time and my dad coming in every 6 weeks although that change because of you know who, I haven’t seen my dad since February which similar to Cure Melody. But one thing we do have in common is that we an only child! Yep she one of few, that is a only child to the family which is my case too! It feels good to have magical girl that’s a only child! Besides that she loves sweets and often seen stealing cakes from her friend Kanade, which similar to me. Me having a sweet tooth for desserts, just that I don’t steal entire cakes!!!! Instead, I bake my sweets and make delicious cookies to satisfy my tooth! I know that’s not good for you but the counter argument to that is that pretty cure had entire season of sweet theme! That’s number 7 that melody is my favorite!

6. Cure Grace/Nodoka

Yes! Before you get pitchforks and torches out, let me explain on why I’m breaking the tradition....* Gets Mega microphone and yells*Cope with it! This my list, she my favorite! She also my favorite shipping pair that being Darunodo or more formally Daruizen x Nodoka! I love their shipping and I think it the best kind beats all the others! They actually have chemistry here! Besides, I kinda like villains x magical girl ship pair well not all * cough Hana cough cough George cough cough* sorry allergies back to my point I love their shipping I mean look these pictures ( by the way their not mine and I don’t know who artists anyone find the original work will get mentioned for help me)

Some of these are actually really good and I really like them besides that she also have a compelling story and although it not finished I really like where it going! Think it has the potential to reach to one of my favorites in recent years! Now with that out the way to number five!

5. Cure Scarlet/Towa

Okay! Let this out! Happy birthday to me and her! Yes I share the same birthday as her being December 15 so whenever people wishing a happy birthday I always have warm feelings being that I’m being wish a happy birthday as well! But, it just not birthday we share! But she went though past trauma being that being of one the villains but being manipulated by one of the big baddies! She also gave up her dream however that changed when she met cure flora! I almost gave my dreams not once but, twice but this season always save me from giving up any hope and save me giving my dreams that being animator and being manga artist as well. Cure Scarlet reminds of me almost giving hope but through courage and grit get through things!

Anyways I post tomorrow my top four favorite cures for now I’m going to bed!

  Nodoka loved visiting Hinata’s place. Specifically, her bedroom. It was such a treasure trove of all these beautiful things. Knickknacks, jewellery, stuffed animals, things that had phased out of the hot list of a hot or not list and things which Hinta suspected would phase into the next hot or not list. Nodoka thought it was all great. Just an excellently curated cacophony of things.

  It was materialism at its best but Nodoka didn’t hold this materialism against Hinata as whilst it wasn’t a virtue to be overly invested in one’s appearance to the point where it hurt, Hinata wasn’t viced by it either. So, it excited Nodoka to step into Hinata’s room and play that game of I spy against herself. It was fun. Especially because things did change. Hinata was thrifty. She believed in upcycling and recycling and reusing so she sometimes had in-between projects of making new things out of old things and it was always exciting when Hinata had a finished product to show off to her.

  “Here, sit here,” Hinata told her because today was one of those days where Nodoka had been invited around so Hinata could offload some of her newest creations onto someone else, “and let me go fetch something real quick.”

  “No problem, I’ll wait.” Nodoka giggled.

  She sat down at Hinata’s dresser, on a cute and plush chair which was all too easy to get comfortable in. Looking up, Nodoka smiled at herself. The mirror attached the dresser was oval shaped but most of that shape had been eaten up by all the things which Hinata had pinned to it. Necklaces, photographs, sticky notes with little reminders to herself. Some practical, some not so practical but it was fun, getting that little insight into Hinata’s life.

  You matter, one note read. Don’t forget Nana’s birthday is next Tuesday, another read. You are kind, you are smart, you are important: all three of those sentiments on yet another note. It was interesting and amusing and when Nodoka’s eyes flicked back to herself. She thought she sparkled just that little bit more having had her confidence bolstered by all those self-care love notes that she skimmed over.

  Hinata soon returned from wherever she had ducked off to. The door banged and rattled; it was swathed with beads on one side. Hinata panted.

  “I bought a new hairbrush, for you to use when you come over, I thought I brought it up here but nope.” She sounded breathless. “It was still with the other groceries.”

  “That’s okay but thank you for being considerate of me.” Nodoka replied, her voice blithe.

  “No problem at all.” Hinata chirruped. Her expression was smug but quickly became nigh demonic. “Now, hold still, I want to practice hair styles on you.”

  “Wh-What? Why?” Nodoka asked, embarrassed, straightening up and stiffening too.

  “I want to try some cascading braids, but I keep getting ‘em all wonky and Nee-san won’t let me practice on her head ‘cause she reckons that it’ll hurt heaps if I do her hair. She’s totes wrong though, don’t worry. And even though your hair is short, you’d be surprised. Or at least according to the magazines and CureTube tutorials I’ve been looking at. But don’t worry, there’s a prize at the end for you.” Hinata said.

  “Just, um, just don’t yank all my hair out, ‘kay?” Nodoka replied. She was intrigued to see how the hairstyles that Hinata had in mind for her.

  “Perfect.” Hinata replied, cocking a self-confident smirk across her face.

  She started to brush out Nodoka’s hair. Nodoka waited very patiently for her and was soon lulled by Hinata’s technique. She was a lot gentler than what Nodoka thought she would be so it was nice. She closed her eyes to it, relaxed, and made light conversation with Hinata – just general things, things about the weather, gossip, complaints about homework – and then yowch!

  Just like Nodoka thought.

  Her eyes snapped open and her scalp ached with how Hinata had pulled on her hair in an attempt to start plaiting since it was all prepared and stuff from brushing.

  “Oops, sorry.” Hinata said, not sounding very sorry at all but she did change how she played with Nodoka’s hair.

  “It’s okay, I’m okay.” Nodoka awkwardly replied.

  Hinata tried again and this time, she seemed to have better success as she slowly worked across Nodoka’s head. The plaits inching up the side of her head, creating something of a waterfall effect despite the brevity of her bob cut. Before her eyes, Nodoka felt as though she were transforming again. The end result was pinned back with a bow and Hinata couldn’t be prouder of her handiwork. Even if she still thought it was a little wonky from insufficient practice.

  “Fwow.” Nodoka gasped as she moved her head left and right so she could get a better look at what Hinata had done.

  Her eyes sparkled and Hinata’s heart throbbed. Nodoka looked a beauty; an utter princess. The plaits complimented her, even if it robbed her of that characteristic and rather adorable roundness that her appearance was founded on. You could see more of the side of her face, her pretty cheeks, now that the majority of her hair had been pulled back into those up and down braids.

  But Hinata was quick to grow dissatisfied with her choice of bow for Nodoka, to keep it all in place. Her eyes, beady and greedy, searched among her things on the dresser but she grizzled with further dissatisfaction. Nodoka, of course and dearly, oblivious to Hinata’s pouty expression and feelings.

  Fortunately, Hinata was Hinata. Full of bright ideas and other bright sparks. She snapped her fingers and she had a total duh moment. She zipped off to her drawers by her bed and she ripped through them trying to find something and she did find it. At the very bottom, hidden among loose papers from school and empty perfume bottles and other assorted stationary. She also found something else which she hadn’t been looking for but would do perfectly as well in a different way.

  She returned to Nodoka’s side, “Hold on,” she told her, she yanked the bow out of Nodoka’s hair.

  It was all wrong for her. It was too big for a start and it was a garish yellow with leopard print pattern in electric green and had noisy, beady dangly bits. It was all wrong for someone like Nodoka who was quiet and demure. Something like this, the bow which Hinata replaced it with, suited her far better.

  And the way Nodoka’s eyes lit up when Hinata grabbed a hand mirror to show off the new replaced bow at the back of her head using manipulated reflections.

  “Fwow…” Nodoka gasped once more. “I love it.”

  “I knew you would.” Hinata replied.

  Yes, this bow was much better. It was more antique Lolita, for a start, and a maroon with white lace detailing, which was stiff as a board, on the petals of the bow. It reminded Hinata of a rose or carnation without being overly floral. Yes, it was much better than what she had initially picked out for Nodoka.

  “And now, bum-ba-da-bum! Its time for your prize.” Hinata told her.

  Nodoka clasped her hands together and squealed, “Ooh, I’m so excited.”

  “I have this for you.” Hinata said.

  Then, swauvely, she took Nodoka’s hand, just one, just her right hand, and she slid a ring onto it. It was a plastic toy ring, no doubt pulled from the costume box of some party shop, but a ring, nonetheless. It was silver with a pink, love-heart shaped stud at the crux of it.

  Hinata smiled to herself and she kissed the side of Nodoka’s hand, making her blush, making her feel like a princess again.

  “I’ll get you a nicer ring one day, promise.” Hinata told her and she slyly caught Nodoka in her peripheries.

  “O-Oh.” Nodoka murmured, realising that she was being flirted with.

  Gosh, she was so red. It was so adorable. And it made Hinata all the more certain that she was going to make good on that little promise with a bedazzlement on top.

The Pretty Cures and its Saints: Healin’ Good PreCure

Now that their birthdays are announced, here are their corresponding saints for our favorite doc heroes!

March 9 - Nodoka Hanadera (Cure Grace) St. Frances of Rome: Italian wife, mother, mystic and organizer who is known as the foundress of the Benedictine Oblates. Her last words before her death were 'The angel has finished his task -- he beckons me to follow him.' Canonized by Pope Paul V in 1608, she is the patron of widows, automobile drivers and the Benedictine Oblates.

March 3 - Rabirin St. Katharine Drexel: American philanthropist, religious sister, educator, heiress, and foundress of the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, as well as Xavier University of Louisiana, the only historically black Catholic college in the country. She might be the second canonized saint to have been born in the United States and the first to have been born a U.S. citizen, she is the patron of philanthropists and racial justice.

August 21 - Chiyu Sawaizumi (Cure Fontaine) Pope St. Pius X: 257th successor of St. Peter and reigned from 1903 to his death in 1914. He was devoted to the Marian title of Our Lady of Confidence; while his papal encyclical ‘Ad diem illum (On that most happy day)’ took on a sense of renewal that was reflected in the motto of his pontificate and is known for vigorously opposing modernist interpretations of Catholic doctrine, promoting liturgical reforms and orthodox theology. He directed the production of the 1917 Code of Canon Law, the first comprehensive and systemic work of its kind. A strong cult of devotion followed his reputation of piety and holiness following his death and the traditionalist Catholic priestly Society of Saint Pius X is named in his honor while a grand statue bearing his name stands within St. Peter's Basilica.

April 25 - Pegitan St. Mark the Evangelist: One of the Four Evangelists and is said to have founded the Church of Alexandria, one of the most important episcopal sees of early Christianity. He is believed to be the 'John Mark' referred to in the Acts of the Apostles, the history of the early Church found in the Canon of the New Testament. Mark was the son of Mary of Jerusalem, whose home became a meeting place for the apostles. He is also the cousin of Barnabas, a Levite and a Cypriot. Mark also held a close relationship with the apostle Peter, who referred to Mark has 'his son' in his letter addressed to a number of churches in Asia Minor (1 Peter 5:13) according to tradition. Clement of Alexandria, Irenaeus and Papias all indicate that Mark was an interpreter for Peter. He lived for years in Alexandria, where he died as a martyr while being dragged through the streets. Mark's symbol - the winged lion, becomes a symbol of the city of Venice in Italy.

October 4 - Hinata Hiramitsu (Cure Sparkle) St. Francis of Assisi: Italian friar, deacon and preacher who is known as the founder of the Franciscan Order - he founded the Order of Friars Minor (for men), the Order of Saint Clare (for women), the Third Order of Saint Francis and the custodian priory the Custody of the Holy Land. Canonized by Pope Gregory IX in 1228 and designated as one of the patron saints of Italy along with St. Catherine of Siena, he later became associated with patronage of animals and the natural environment, and it became customary for churches to hold ceremonies blessing animals on or near his feast day. In 1223, Francis arranged for the first Christmas live nativity scene and the following year, he received the stigmata during the apparition of Seraphic angels in a religious ecstasy according to Christian tradition.

February 22 - Nyatoran Chair of Saint Peter: Known as the Throne of Saint Peter, it is a relic conserved in St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican City, the sovereign enclave of the Pope inside Rome, Italy. The relic is a wooden throne that tradition claims the Apostle Saint Peter, the leader of the Early Christians in Rome and first Pope, used as Bishop of Rome. It is enclosed in a sculpted gilt bronze casing designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini and executed between 1647 and 1653, and Pope Benedict XVI described the chair as 'a symbol of the special mission of Peter and his Successors to tend Christ’s flock, keeping it united in faith and in charity' in 2012. The wooden throne was a gift from Holy Roman Emperor Charles the Bald to Pope John VIII in 875.

August 16 - Asumi Fuurin (Cure Earth) St. Roch: Spanish pilgrim and confessor who is specially invoked against the plague. He is a patron saint of dogs, the falsely accused, bachelors, and several other things. He is widely known in many English-speaking areas such as the Philippines, who called him ‘San Roque’. His major shrine can be found in San Rocco, Venice, Italy.

November 1 - Princess Latte Solemnity of All Saints: Known as 'All Saints' Day', it is an event that is celebrated in honor of all the saints, known and unknown. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. It should not be confused with All Souls' Day, which is observed on November 2, and is dedicated to those who have died and not yet reached heaven. Although millions, or even billions of people may already be saints, All Saints' Day observances tend to focus on known saints -- that is those recognized in the canon of the saints by the Catholic Church. Generally, the feast is a Catholic Holy Day of Obligation, meaning all Catholics are required to attend Mass on that day, unless they have an excellent excuse, such as serious illness.
