some random chronically online fandom and shipping thoughts #1

I just feel like ARMYs who are very obviously Y/N’s have NO reason to be judging shippers. I think it’s funny how some of them are so genuinely defensive and put off by shipping in a way I can tell is personal lol (it’s giving jealousy!). I totally understand people not liking shipping/shippers but I’ll never accept judgement from a Y/N, sorry! If you’re posting about only ONE member in a really thirsty manner after every AYS trailer and then turning around and saying “ugh, jkkrs are so annoying and delusional, jikook are brothers!” I know what you are! 🫵

slurping up all these AYS teasers like a starving animal but I’m starting to feel like they’re showing us too much now 😩 don’t spoil all the cute parts please BH!

only extremely sad and chronically online losers think that mass liking hate tweets actually means anything in the real world. a lot of these people need to get a life and go touch grass because the obsession with jm is truly weird and sad.

not everyone who wants th to appear in AYS is a tkkr, because it’s normal for ARMYs to want to see as many members as possible, but it’s kind of obvious with the ones who bring it up every chance they get lol, or the first thing they look for in a new AYS teaser, or just the specific way they talk about it. and my god are there a lot of tkkr ARMYs

I’m self aware that I’m pretty heavily biased, but there’s nothing worse than the ARMYs who hide under the OT7 visage but are CLEARLY heavily biased themselves. I simply do not like hypocrites, maybe some of them are in denial about it, idk. ofc there’s nothing worse than the ones who cosplay and try to create havoc in ARMY spaces, but that’s an entirely different thing. with that said, i’m convinced that at least 90% of active ARMYs are heavily biased at this point and we’d all be better off if they could simply just admit it.

perhaps this is my own bias so feel free to disagree, but imo ARMYs very clearly have a different sort of energy for jm antis and I think its partially because his hate has been so damn normalized in this fandom after years of tkkrs, but also because clearly a vast majority of the ARMY sh*oter accounts are diet solos and tkkrs and they always put an extra amount of scrutiny on things related to jm. they're also the first to bring shipper/solo drama into ARMY spaces (but only when it impacts their ship/bias) and they’re very clearly obviously lurking in solo/shipper territory to find it the way they do. the silence right now from certain accounts really does speak volumes.

sort of related, but the best way to gain a big following on ARMY twt is to get involved in whatever current drama is going on, for example MHJ drama, boycott drama, general fanwars. ARMYs will flock and mass follow these accounts, and a lot of them are diets who gain a platform and then spread their diet narratives later. one really good example is that elo person if anyone remembers all that, they literally were moots w/ tkk akgaes & calling them bestie but rebranded after they started gaining a mass following for “doxxing” and they started gaining attention because they were “debunking” the OG taennie icloud leaks (lol ofc they were a tkkr doing that). anyways they were awful and did a lot of harm, but they got that platform bc a lot of ARMYs flock to toxic accounts like that, especially when somethings going on, and then they’re impossible to cancel.

last shipping thought but we all know why tkkrs and y/n’s are jealous and weird towards jkk but sometimes its actually the same case for a lot of the other bts shippers, especially jk x hl shippers (like what's w/ all the j*nkookers lol) & yoonm*n. and there’s a lot of ARMYs who fall into this category actually. even if they don’t believe their ship is real, sometimes they still feel a bit passive aggressive/jealous bc they would prefer whatever content was with their bias/self-insert instead. theres so many jkk moments that have been really badly OT7’d, like I’ve never seen anything like the way almost the entire fandom rewrote history to make that jk binging jm content jk binging bts content (its legit wild to me).

and ill never forget during the disney docu when someone pointed out how jk likely knew jms apartment password and it got ratio’d at over 4k by someone saying “he probably knows all his hyungs passwords!” and it wasn’t even funny or clever lmao, it was very much giving

anyways, i believe this is one of the reasons sometimes ARMYs at large are weird towards jkk bc even outside of just tkkrs there are a LOT of HL shippers who take it pretty personally, especially if they’re the sort that projects onto one of the members in their ship. tbh, even if it’s not shipping, it’s a bias line thing where they want to fight over jm/jk being closer to their bias than they are to each other.

its whatever and just a petty complaint lol, i dont care who ppl ship/bias but i do find it annoying sometimes bc there are always ppl constantly downplaying jkks friendship and picking it apart and trying to OT7-ify it more than any other duo. its like ppl are really obsessed & its tiring. just give jkk their flowers sometimes and move on, you know? you definitely do not need to ship them or see them as romantic, but just respect their bond and the things about it that are unique to them, god

ACOTAR tag game 💕

Who's your favourite ACOTAR character?

Tamlin of course. I'm mostly in this fandom for him although I love Nesta and Lucien too.

Who's your least favourite character?

Rhysand. I found him icky in ACOTAR but didn't mind him. I started hating him when sjm tried to jam into my head how great he is. I don't like people telling me what to do or how to feel. I would've liked him more if the narrative let him be and didn't absolved him of his crimes while making him an obvious foil to Tamlin.

Say something nice about your least favourite character.

Mind manipulation is a cool power and it makes him op. I wish the narrative didn't conveniently give him morals when mind reading would solve everything. Let him actually be morally gray without it being justified by the text.

Who's your favourite High Lord? (If you picked one for your fav character, then who's your second fav!)

Beron. He's a dick and I'm excited for the day Eris finally kills him, but I have a lot of fun when he's on the page. The HL meeting made me unironically like him.

Favourite MINOR character?

I have multiple and can't decide who I like more. Eris, Gwyn, Emerie, Vassa, Jurian and Andras. Do the first 3 count as minor characters?

Favourite court and why?

Spring Court. My favorite seasons are spring and Autumn. I love the spooky season but I'm not down to live with the misogyny. I have no allergies but I'm scared of bugs. Now I have a legit reason to cling onto Tamlin.

What relationship would you have wanted to see more of in the books?

Tamlin, Lucien and Andras. For the guy who started it all, Andras has almost no presence in the book.

What's your unpopular opinion?

I don't like briar x tamlin. I don't hate it and I understand the theory, but I don't care for it. I'm not really interested in a romantic arc for Tamlin. I just want to see him build a better life for himself and fix his friendship with Lucien. A relationship with a human while beautiful is very tragic for an immortal. I would want him to experience an easier romance.

And I don't want a fiery love interest who will kick his ass. I prefer a gentler love for Tamlin. Someone who will listen to him, strive to understand him and treat him with compassion. Being gentle with someone doesn't automatically equal an enabler. A SLOW burn friends to lovers is what I want for him.

What's your favorite headcanon/fan canon?

Azriel is a failure but not like in a malicious way. He tries so hard but he's not good at spying. The girl he likes doesn't like him back and it's so pathetic it's funny.

If you were swept away to Prythian, what's ONE thing you would want to do?

I would go and try to talk with Tamlin. I'm really awkward and not a hugger irl so I would ask if he wants to be friends but deep inside I want to hug him too.

If you could have ONE faerie ability seen in the books, which would it be?

As someone who is afraid of driving and gets easily stressed by traveling, I would say winnowing.

I do not understand people who continue to insist Feyre is useless and didn't earn her title of High Lady. it's insane because if she doesn't deserve it then nobody else does. it also makes me think about what will they say about Elain if those dusk court theories are right and she and Az end up being the high lord and lady. the feyre hate is just insane and it makes me think that if feyre isn't "badass" enough for this fandom what will they say about Elain when she gets her book

Yeah, i think the issue is that as per usual, SJM couldn't work the magic right.

Instead of having Rhys grant this title to Feyre, as some kind of informal thing, which doesn't really come with any real powers, unless he wills it so, the title itself seems meaningless.

It's not a matter of deserving. It's a matter of SJM not staying true to her worldbuilding.

If the POWER that selects all High Lords, officially selected Feyre, then it would be totally fine. As it stands right now, her power only stems from her association with Rhysand her mate. Like, could she be a High Lady without him? No. If SJM did it correctly, then the Power would've officially chosen Feyre.

That's why we have all these issues with Rhys needing to tell others to bow to her, especially in Hewn City, or ordering his IC to keep the pregnancy issue a secret, and they all followed his orders. Like if Feyre was a 'true' HL, she wouldn't need Rhys. She'd come down to Hewn City, and the mountains would shake and everyone would just know--the High Lady is here. Like they know with Rhys.

The problem is, right now, it's simply a chosen title granted to her by her husband. Like a Queen Consort. She is 'a Camilla' right now.

As for deserving or not deserving--that's a hard question to answer. Firstly, I think 90% of these people dont 'deserve' to have the posts that they have. In the IC, it's all just pure nepotism.

Maybe Thesan and Tarquin deserve their titles. Tamlin? Beron? Not sure about Helion...

I know SJM doesn't care about any of this, so it's a moot point.

if we go some 'Elain is a High Lady' way, I'd like to see something different. I dont want Azriel or even Lucien granting her the title. I'd like for her to become one through magic and merit.

Is Feyre 'deserving' of her title? Yes. Should it have been written differently? Also yes.

Chapter Previews for Truce

So fun fact regarding previews of ch3 (and ch4) from Truce: you're right; they don't exist here on tumblr. This was before I'd realized the butch/lander community is also active here on this platform as well, so under that mentality I'd mostly just tweeted screenshots of ch3 (and 1 tweet about ch4) over on my Twitter account. Because it's awhile back, they're buried under my 300+ tweets (especially with the daily/weekly updates from the three threadfics of then) but I believe you can still find them on Twitter if you search for "Truce ch3" and "Truce ch4" and sort them by Latest tweets. You can also find a few sneak peek snippets in the ch2 Comments section of Truce that I gifted a couple readers as thanks for their comments~.

Truce Ch3 Status

At the time I was juggling three threadfics and Truce all in one go. A lot of ch3 was written even before ch2, but it was the beginning scene and the last scene that stumped me. What happened essentially since was I had a conversation with two moots based on a NS/FW drawing planned for ch3 and ended up changing the location, so that scene has to be changed.

Then what was left was the beginning scene I had to first tackle, and I made the decision to go waaaaaaaay outside the box that no one has written before—which is the subtle romantic parody of Superman and Lois Lane in outerspace. A reader of mine tweeted under my tweet of me airing out that idea, and they essentially sent me a thread of questioning the logistics of how that'd work and how dumb it'd be essentially on HL's part (because, y'know, space and exposed human eyeballs and the human body, lack of oxygen/ inability to breath in space, and then there's the question about how Billy's and Homelander's bodies are gonna be able to withstand the heat of re-entering Earth's atmosphere even with their nigh "invulnerable" bodies)—and that fired me up to commit to the outerspace idea as the dramatic first scene because I'm a stubborn writer (/lh). The more you tell me an idea is dumb or cannot be done, the more I feel compelled to do it to prove the person wrong. (Mind you, though, we're good friends on Twitter; this is not meant as shade or anything, haha. They know I joke about how I'm a "stubborn writer" like a certain main character from one of my fics and how their thread fired me up to dig my heels in and give this insane idea a shot.)

After TNotG ch1 is posted to AO3, I'll go back to resuming the writing of Truce ch3. Originally I was thinking of maybe waiting for The Boys (TV) S4 to air so I can bring in Firecracker and Sister Sage and keep true to their canon show personalities instead of me making it up, but then I saw someone tweet that Erin Moriarty doesn't think post production of S4 will be done till 2024. So I think, as long as I'm not gripped by TNoTG ch2 feels, I'm probably going to jump ship briefly and finish Truce ch3 first after TNoTG ch1.

Fix-it AU and the Sugar Baby AU

I'm glad you're enjoying them! Presently as I'm writing TNotG ch1 (and later Truce ch3), I'm putting them on a short pause so I can focus on them individually and not have my wires crossed. HL's POV is always entertaining to write, and there is a certain type of Homelander that I very much enjoy in both my readings and writings. I have a soft spot for reading about a vain, clingy, narcissistic obsessive/ possessive manipulative psychopath HL who is codependent on his partner and wanting them so much he lets himself be dommed—and, after experiencing an earth-shattering revelation and bliss, he now expects to be catered to and pampered like a pillow princess and having Billy's attention revolve around him 24/7 (bc ofc). It's delightful to read about in the fictional sphere where we can play with such an unhinged character, and I like sharing that with my readers.

I'm still thinking maybe after Truce is completed and we just have TNotG in my AO3 portfolio left, that maybe I can migrate these threadfics over as part of my Butchlander Twitter Threadfics series—but obviously polish them up and change a few story decisions and, eventually, finish them. Right now these threadfics only exist on Twitter—and so they shall remain there until I'm ready to begin the migration.

I’m just done with this show. Willow finally gets to express her negative emotions and break down and then they literally use her breakdowns as hl fuel and use it to push her into a relationship, not to mention while Hunter is still in mourning. I’m tired of “love heals all” tropes. I’m just dropping the show. Not watching the rest. Dana has lost my faith and my favor.

I totally understand. I'm extremely disappointed with the nose dive in writing. I know they were probably stressed from the whole season/show being shortened, but come on. I know you can do better than some half-baked romance that one side of hasn't shown any interest in up until this point suddenly. I haven't watched yet, but I heard that it was in response to Willow finally expressing her emotions. Which is even fucking worse imo. It's telling the fans that Willow's feelings and emotions as a character don't matter unless she is in a romantic relationship with the main pretty white boy. It's telling kids watching the relationships fix all :-))) and that you're only worthy of your emotions being considered if someone finds you attractive and you're in a relationship with them. It's disgusting. Hands down its fucking disgusting and I despise the entire crew AND Dana for allowing that to happen. I thought it would be Hunter that was "healed by a relationship" that was the concerns, but apparently it was fucking both of them. Instead of it being bad enough with it only magically "fixing" Hunter, they dragged BOTH characters down with them. They made all of that loss and trauma Hunter just experienced- and should be grieving for instead of chasing after some girl- an entirely moot point. Oh, Flapjack died? That doesn't matter. Here's a boring relationship with a boring girlfriend to fix it :) all better now. The fact that this is the writers' response to putting Hunter through all the trauma. That this is his fucking consolation prize as a character to become so blandly written and 2 dimensional. It's fucking unacceptable honestly. They made Hunter kill his best friend by his own hand and then IMMEDIATELY shove him into a relationship with him not seeming to care at all the Flapjack is dead now. I haven't seen the ep, so I'm sure it comes up, but either way. There is no excuse for this. I really, really don't blame you for dropping the show. I wish I could, but I'm too invested in the other characters to drop it completely.

Additionally, something my partner suggested last night was that any of us with major complaints like this, should write to them if we're able. To Dana specifically. Tell her how hurt and disappointed we are and how the show has lost a huge chunk of meaningfulness to it from how they treated and discarded to of the main characters for shipping fodder out of the blue. Tell her how the message they've sent by doing this is harmful and disheartening and how the writing has entirely fallen flat just to pull a pair the spares. I'd have way more to add obviously, but you get the gist.

I hate it that just because Tam said there's no high lady, he's sexist. Like if he is sexist, why would he appoint 1anthe to be his advisor instead of Lucien? If he is one, then why is he not mad when feyre fights off the monsters when she encountered suriel? Like his stance that time was she is human and he's surprised humans can kill that far!

You know, I personally do not feel Tamlin is sexist. Book 1 Tam respected that she was much comfortable in pants than dresses. He also allowed her to hunt because that was what she was used to in the human land. He didn't even assume that because she's a woman, she should be pure and innocent, or caring and nurturing. Tamlin knew about Isaac Hale and didn't condemn her for it. He also did not expect her to clean, cook, or anything domestic to make up for her living there. Instead, he encouraged her to do whatever she wanted. He's never held her to a standard of ladylike behaviors. He's never made any comments based on her gender or appearance, rather than it was based overall on her humanity (I.e., he didn't think humans would be like her). There weren't any indication that he treated her as his subordinate other than the whole fae/human relationship. Hell he didn't even expected her to be submissive. He understood that she was feisty, vocal and independent by nature. Book 2 Tamlin was a huge retcon. Aside the fact that the guy got massive PTSD from UTM watching her die and worrying about REAL threats, such as Hybern, Rhysand, monsters in SC, anything else he exhibited was out of character for him. His concerns weren't crazy or paranoia either, they were logical, and we eventually see these later on when Feyre was hunted by the Attor and captured by Hybern. The fandom argues that since he protected her so much, he was sexist. But they damn him for not protecting her enough UTM when he flat out admitted he cannot protect her there. It was her decision to go and they crucified him for it. They argue that he didn't give her a title. He asked, she said no. The story never got to the point of him even enforcing it if he wanted to. They argue that he is sexist for not wanting to train her powers. But do consider the overall timeline and situation when Feyre asked. He was in the middle of cleaning up and rebuilding SC, worrying about Hybern going after Feyre, and he also had to worry about Rhysand, who violated and assaulted her, popping out any time to collect that bargain. It is still her decision to train whenever she wanted, but I guarantee that had Tamlin allowed that and she got hurt in the process, the fandom would still criticize him for it. The guy cannot win. They reason that Rhysand allowed her to train. Rhysand also did not have monsters roaming his court. He didn't have to rebuild the only part of his court he actually cared about, because they were protected and ran by his governing bodies. He had better circumstances. 

And let's talk about that he also put her in danger numerous times: the Weaver trip, she literally could have died and there was nothing he could do about it due to the "laws" the prevent HLs from intervening with the weaver; the prison, it triggered her PTSD; the training - he used her as a bait to see who'd go after her. And before those three incidents, Feyre told him that she didn't want to be lied to and she wanted to be fully informed. Rhysand did the opposite of that. So tell me, is this somebody who saw her as an equal, somebody who valued her life? Did they make Feyre stronger? yes. She learned lessons along the way. But the difference here, Tamlin never had time to provide her with those, Rhysand did. Tamlin would have probably also done it differently without risking her life. That is something he wouldn't gamble with after what he witnessed. BOTH MEN are overprotective of her so that argument is moot (Rhysand later on). 

And you're right, why have a woman as an advisor if he did not trust her decision-making skills, authority, etc.? It doesn't make sense. Just to clarify, too, Feyre said so herself that it was Ianthe who wanted her to wear pretty dresses and breed little HLs. Not tamlin. Ianthe. 

Point is, they pin all these what if scenarios against Tamlin as him being sexist when we never got to a point that he showed us that other than the little excerpts of Feyre whining because she couldn't think rationally given their situation.

Teased a few days ago, we now have the official trailer for Baymax!, the Big Hero 6 series coming to Disney+ next summer.

The trailer showcases Baymax traveling around the city, helping citizens with their healthcare.  It also shows (at least to me) a very surprising person showing up: Aunt Cass in the Cafe twisting her ankle and Baymax having to take over in her steed.

Now, we don’t know how many episodes this is going to run.  Other Disney+ shows have run at minimum six episodes, so we’ll hopefully be getting at least that.

Now, before the trailer went up, DisneyTVANews (the fan-run Disney TVA account on Twitter) addressed the rumors of the trailer in a tweet yesterday:

Baymax! confirmed the worst for people who liked Big Hero 6 The Series. The entire thing sadly became non-canonical for Baymax! So consider BH6 The Series as a variant of the multiverse from now on.

There’s a few things to note about this:

1.) The people doing Baymax! did the movie, not The Series.  So on the surface, it would make sense that they wouldn’t immediately mention anything in The Series.

2.) Just because the 2 minutes trailer doesn’t show anyone prominent doesn’t mean they won’t show up eventually.

3.) The Series “being deemed non-canon” is a ridiculous notion.  If you really think about it, Baymax! is not canon to the series, not the other way around.  But there’s no reason why both of these can’t co-exist.

4.) Plus, this whole thing has been rendered moot by Aunt Cass showing up.  Yes, Noodle Burger Boy and his family aren’t in the cafe, but you know how much time and resources they would need to animate four more robots there?

This was never meant to be the second coming of The Series, so I’m not sure why people are thinking that.

Aunt Cass is already in here.  We will probably be getting Hiro at some point.  We might get some of the other team (HL, Go Go, Wasabi, Fred).  That’s probably it.  This is Baymax’s show (literally).  He’s going to be the star.

But man, I would give a lot to see people who first premiered in the show get the 3D treatment.  Imagine Granville coming into the cafe to recruit Baymax into something.

Or Karmi just...existing.

Both of those are very, very unlikely to happen.

But a guy can dream, right?

Omg I’m sorry I only just got back to you now, you sent this a week ago and I wanted to give u a good answer but I have had a busy week [insert Niall “today was a busy week for us” gif] and just finally got the time to sit down and type something out.

firstly, thank you so much for reading my works 🥺 it means so much to me that even though it’s been years you can still find comfort in my words 🥰 I’m really glad I can make you smile even for a little bit!!

anyway HEADCANONS! it’s been ages but hmm

ghost fic:

- it’s not exactly a few years later but like another 6 months of living together in h’s flat, they decide to get married. it’s a small affair, just them and their friends and it’s just the greatest day in louis’ life

- i think for them in particular they have the most fairytale ending compared to all my other versions of Harry n louis, partly because they went through…so much, yknow? I put them through the wringer but I have a bleeding heart and so they just get married after a few years and settle down and live happily ever after. they have maybe 2 kids and a dog (Clifford the labradoodle!!!)

- all of harry’s next songs are love songs about love defying all the hardships and louis just rolls his eyes and calls him a sap but he’s secretly pleased.

- louis still works as a real estate agent and everytime he has to sell a new house Harry will pout and be like “don’t flirt with other ghosts” (not like louis can…my personal head canon of why the boys could see ghost harry was because their seance, shit as it was, worked lmaoooo)

Professional cuddler fic:

- louis doesn’t quit his job immediately even after getting together w Harry, because it’s a good job n it pays well and cuddling is fun. But as their relationship progresses Harry just gets poutier and poutier everytime louis has to cuddle someone who isn’t him, so louis like. Looks into changing jobs and starts trying to change careers without Harry knowing that one night after they’ve been together 2 years, Harry asks why he hasn’t been getting clients recently and louis is just like 🤷🏻‍♂️ I quit my job.

- Harry is very shocked but also elated about this new development and louis is all like “YOURE A TERRIBLE BOYFRIEND HAROLD, YOU DONT EVEN KNOW ABOUT MY EMPLOYMENT, YOU DONT CARE ABOUT ME” but all bratty and jokingly and Harry has to give him lots of kisses and 👀 other things 👀 for him to calm down.

- louis just ends up working an office job. it’s okay but it’s not like he needs it to pay well, especially since he has harry lmao. but he likes the job that he does and he won’t admit it but he’s super pleased that no one else gets to touch him except Harry, yknow. (There were some creepy clients)

- Harry still writes sad songs and louis still teases him about it but Harry writes the sappiest, most heartfelt songs about louis in private and sings them to him when there’s no one else listening and louis is all “GOD YOURE SO LAME HAROLD” but he looks like this emoji 🥺 when he tells Harry so it’s a moot point basically.

- one time they get drunk and they co-write a dance track just for fun. The track blows up and Louis thinks it’s the funniest thing. He has one writing credit and it’s the dumbest dance track ever

- they break up once, over something very shallow. Like Harry spending too much time w his industry mates and louis getting jealous but he won’t talk about how jealous he is and it blows up to epic proportions and louis leaves the house. but louis can’t sleep without Harry at this point and after a few hours he relents and tells Harry where he is and Harry shows up all despondent and lays down on the bed, sleeps beside louis. and it doesn’t fix everything but it makes them both feel a little better and they talk a few days later and they decide to try and be better for each other.

I really wish there was a way to convince Disney to treat The Nerd Gang with more dignity and depth than what we got. I mean, Wasabi was treated as a major butt monkey and only had ONE focus episode (and I feel like the reason is because he is black...), Go Go and Honey Lemon didn't get much depth or development either. And Fred never had a chance to show how much he could have potentially resented his parents for neglecting him so much as a kid and how it could be affecting his relationships

For myself, I wish there was simply a way to convince Disney of continuing the show. Then there can be a chance for them to do just that with giving proper respect to the nerd gang and other characters with more depth and attention.

Wasabi certainly deserves more than one focal episode. And even with that one... I’m a bit mixed on the solution they gave him with Mini-Max as a distraction because... he’s a distraction. If I had a small robot dancing around while my professor was giving a brilliant lecture... I’m not paying attention as much as I should be and the knowledge transfer becomes rather moot. So Wasabi’s skills as a teacher aren’t fully appreciated, realistically.

While I understand the possibility of his treatment due to his color, for me it’s that the show put too much of a comedic focus on Wasabi’s neuroses and quirks. While I think it’s possible to make that a very funny thing, it can’t be that we’re always laughing at Wasabi but mostly with him.

The episode we did get of him trying to overcome stage fright and public speaking, there could’ve been some more real world skills he could’ve learned from Baymax (who could’ve been his test audience) and show how Wasabi himself could overcome very relatable fears.

For instance, I constantly teach various skills and lectures in my professions to varying audience sizes from 1-3 people to 40-50 at a time. My social anxieties as an introvert and fear of public speaking worsens when I’m dealing more intimately with a smaller crowd. With larger crowds, I don’t even realize I’m talking to so many people. It’s like I’m just speaking as I’ve rehearsed to a mirror or an empty room. And when it’s hard to make eye contact, I look to people’s foreheads rather than their eyes. These are all things I’d rather have an episode of Wasabi learning practical skills that gives him the development to at least be better equipped to face his anxieties.

So, my gripe for someone like Wasabi is that he could have been written to have really golden moments of triumph. Perhaps I’m just honestly a bit tired of a dancing robot lol. But moments like that I’d write differently. It’s not simply about more moments to give to these characters, but if they are going to be scarce due to some many characters being in the BH6TS ensemble, give them quality moments at the very least.

And for Gogo and HL, there are definitely more that can be done for them to provide depth and development. I’m just a bit blank on my thoughts on them at the moment, sorry lol.

But that’s an interesting point about Fred and his parents. I never thought of him possibly having resentment but it’s an interesting angle to consider. Fred was overly used for comedic effect that downplayed his intelligence and that’s what I find to be a shame though.

Among the things missed in the series that deserved highlighting in Fred’s character is that he really is actually intelligent and not just in the unconventional comic knowledge way that he’s known for. In some materials from the movie, we see that Fred is part of a special program that allows him to be SFIT’s mascot while attending another college as an English major. With his understanding of comics, it plays well to his analytical abilities when it comes to literature and media. Just because he’s not a STEM major doesn’t mean he has to do non-intelligent things...

And it was natural for him to be a hero, not just due to his love for pop culture and comics. He’s a volunteer and advocate/philanthropist for a lot of different organizations (like “Brothers from Another Mother” lol). He does have an altruistic personality even before being a formal superhero. He’s also remarkably humble in status and personality despite his more affluent background... these are all massively respectable traits that should be more recognized and highlighted in BH6 writing.

Again... I think BH6 has that curse of being pressured to “cater to children” in a way and yet it’s lighthearted and balanced ways of treated hard or harrowing concepts shows how it doesn’t need to become a childishly comedic cartoon. So... I guess I just fall back to blaming Disney executives for that error in misdirection.

Diarmuid, son of Donn

Ever since I got into Fate, my favorite character has always been Diarmuid ua Duibhne from Fate/Zero (what can I say, I’m a sucker for tragic heroes). After finishing the series, I was curious about the actual mythology, and starting from his Wikipedia page, I moved on to reading as many variations of The Pursuit as I could. My interest only grew over time and I moved onto his other exploits, like “The Daughter of the King Under-Wave” and “The Hostel of the Quicken Trees.” While there’s contradictions between certain stories, which is to be expected with mythology, there are general core aspects consistent throughout. 

But one aspect of his legend I cannot verify anywhere.

I’ve seen many people assert, as well as Diarmuid’s Wikipedia page itself, that Diarmuid is actually a demigod. They claim that his father is Donn, the lord of the Dead, of the Tuatha de Danann. Which is a neat idea... if I could find a single source backing it up.

Now don’t get me wrong, in every source I’ve found, Diarmuid is always listed as the son of Donn. But, and here’s the important distinction--it never specifies which Donn. There’s loads of Donns all over the place: Donn, son of Midhir, Donn, son of Miled, Donn and Dubhan sons of the King of Ulster--you get the idea. Donn, or the Dark One, is listed as a son or foster-son of the Dagda (although he may have originally been an iteration of him). 

The Dagda is a pretty big deal in Irish mythology, and generally whenever any character is related to him, it’s specified, such as Diarmuid’s foster father, Aengus:

Yet, Donn in the “The Pursuit” is never listed as the Dagda’s son. In fact, Diarmuid is always referred as the grandson of Duibhne (hence ua Duibhne), and his mother, Crochnuit, is listed as the daughter of Currach (although it’s a moot point, as only the father’s father ever seems to matter when they list genealogy). But wait? What if the Dagda was just Donn’s foster father and Duibhne is the real father of Donn. Well, if you can find a source, sure, but I can’t find anything connecting Donn of the Tuatha de Danann to a person named Duibhne. As it is, besides a single website with no source, I cannot find anything corroborating Wikipedia’s claim. Going further, in one version I found, Donn is referred to as Donn O’Donnchudha (grandson of Donnchudha).

No mention of the Tuatha de Danann in that family tree.

One consistency about Donn, the father of Diarmuid, that I’ve found is that he was a member of the Fianna that was outlawed after a quarrel. 

(For some reason he’s called Bonn here)

This makes it even odder if he were the Donn of the Tuatha de Danann, since yes, the Fianna would interact with them sometimes, but they weren’t actually members of the Fianna. They both just kind of hated the Fomorians. 

In one of the most extensive collections of Fenian myths, “Gods and Fighting Men” by Lady Gregory, Donn the Dark One does appear. But he’s referred to in a different way than how Diarmuid’s father is presented.

Why wouldn’t Diarmuid’s father be referred to the same way? Why would no myth make any allusion that Diarmuid is the son of the Dark One? And since none do, how did this claim come to be? Could it really be that someone saw the name Donn and assumed it had to be the same Donn as the one from the Tuatha de Danann?

In a way, I actually like the idea that Diarmuid’s dad was just a regular dude, meaning Diarmuid had no divine ancestry. He certainly had enough supernatural influences in his life considering he was the foster son of Aengus Og and was trained by Manannan (and potentially the warrior woman, Mongfinn, but I’ve only ever seen two places that claim this, and I can’t find a source for either). I like that he’s just a dude who can slay entire armies. Mythology is full of guys who are just Like That.

Now, I’m not claiming I know everything. Maybe someone out there has the source that shows Diarmuid really is descended from the Lord of the Dead. But for me, I’ve yet to see it.

I saw a post recently and it was about that time when everyone went to Hewn City and Rhys made that agreement with Eris but before that Cassian and Az drew sticks to see who would stay in Velaris and protect it and protect Elain. Gwynriels are arguing that Az didn't want to stay with Elain back then and didn't ask to stay behind. They are using it as proof that he isn't interested in her. What are your thoughts? Why do you think he didn't want to stay with her?

There is a different between 'didn't want' and 'didn't ask' to stay behind.

We don't know what he 'wanted'. He might have very well wanted to stay, but it's a moot point, since his thoughts aren't available to us.

Now, I havent read the scene for a bit, but I remember it well enough.

Azriel was caught by Eris, doing some recon work in Autumn Court. In exchange for his release, Eris demanded a meeting with Rhys and the formation of Rhys/NC/Eris alliance against Beron.

Azriel, is the only person who is aware of what is about to go down. Rhys did not share his plans with ANYONE except for Az. Not Feyre, not Cassian, not even Amren, his Second.

Now, at that point, Azriel knows Elain for, I don't know, let's say a month, maybe two. She is not in any particular danger in Velaris. Cassian is guarding her. There is no need for Azriel to request to stay instead, while he knows what's about to go down.

It's important to remember that he is in service of the NC, and of Rhys. He also has Rhys's confidence. Despite his personal feelings, which perhaps are only now developing towards Elain, his duty lies with the NC. He also has a duty to Mor, his friend/family of 500 years, because he knows how all of this will affect her. (And he is correct in his assumptions). He serves are the backbone and support for Rhys, knowing how difficult all of these decisions will be weighing on him, and how much wrath, from everyone, will be directed at his brother and HL.

I would go so far as to venture to say that the stick drawing might have been somewhat predetermined, in favour of Az. Rhys needed Az there, needed his rationality and support. Az went knowing that his relationship with Mor would be negatively impacted, but again, the priority is the war, securing the Darkbringers, and alliance with Eris. NOT his personal likes for certain girls.

Cassian would've been wrong in that situation. He is passionate and hotheaded. He has a personal relationship with Mor, sexual and a friendship, and he probably would've jumped to defend her and the last thing Rhys needed was a brawl between IC members in front of Eris and Kier.

I think it would be prudent to remember that these people dont always think only with their cocks and sometimes, actually make decisions that don't involve their personal desires. Beside romance, these books are also about politics and greater themes of power, loyalty, sacrifice, etc. So nothing in this episode is contrary to Azriel's general behavior, and obviously the scene is NOT about him and Elain, but about the lengths that Rhys would go to get what he wants, and the beginning of the Eris/Rhys alliance.
