[x] Lorien aaaaaand.... Henry, perhaps? (though if there is someone else you'd rather use, feel free!)
From: 🌹 All Hallow's Eve Ball 🌹
Tumblr media
Clad in a splendid array of ivory, he was like a pearl amidst a dark, festive sea of this gala. Blond locks married with swirls of golden ornamentation and white silk; his mask, crowned by a shimmering horn, the decadent diadem. Shades of scarlet and sable swarmed about him - thematic, though lackluster by comparison to the alabaster gem that was he. Or so he thought, surely!
In that regard, it was rather unfortunate that one of these many shades let their entertainment stray just a little too far, bumping into Lorien, causing him to stumble and in turn collide with some unfortunate soul hovering by a table.
"Gracious—" Both he and the gentleman he had encountered were suddenly brought face to face - dreadfully so, in that moment. Oh dear. "—Ah, forgive me!"
The dandy withdrew immediately. Brushing away his nerves along with waves of hair led too stray for his liking, he cleared his throat before speaking once more.

"A lively crowd.~" The line was followed by a chuckle. Not a timid one, no. Make no mistake, he still shone like a diamond, despite being thrown into the rough without warning!

In all seriousness, here are a few resources I think are helpful with regards to understanding just how thoroughly Henry Kissinger screwed the world over:
Kissinger by Behind the Bastards. This is a 6 part series done by the podcast Behind the Bastards, with the hosts of The Dollop on as guests. It's super funny and a very accessible foothold into understanding the scope of Kissinger's vast career.
Kissinger's Shadow by Greg Grandin. This book provides an in-depth analysis of Kissinger's tenure in the White House, covering both how he got into office, the changes he made in office, the policies he put forth, and their repercussions on the world.
ETAN's category on Kissinger. The East Timor and Indonesia Action Network has long been an outspoken critic of Kissinger's, and they've aggregated a lot of helpful articles here.
The Trial of Henry Kissinger by Christopher Hitchins. While Grandin's book focuses less on the specificities of Kissinger's crimes, Hitchins has no such qualms and details each of them in depth.
I truly think understanding Kissinger, the way he thought, and the things that he did, are all indispensable when it comes to understanding the modern political climate and how foreign policy works in America and therefore, by necessity, in the world at large. The sheer amount of damage he was responsible for should never be underestimated.

Then, too, at sea—to use a homely but expressive phrase—you miss a man so much. A dozen men are shut up together in a little bark, upon the wide, wide sea, and for months and months see no forms and hear no voices but their own, and one is taken suddenly from among them, and they miss him at every turn. It is like losing a limb. There are no new faces or new scenes to fill up the gap. There is always an empty berth in the forecastle, and one man wanting when the small night watch is mustered. There is one less to take up the wheel, and one less to lay out with you upon the yard. You miss his form, and the sound of his voice, for habit had made them almost necessary to you, and each of your senses feels the loss.
—a sailor's diary entry, on losing a shipmate, ca. 1834 (from Two Years Before the Mast by Richard Henry Dana Jr.)

shawn's deep trust of lassiter keeps catching me so off-guard like when he's held captive and lassie and henry both turn up he tries to yell "carlton" not "dad" and when he sees a guy with a gun come into the restaurant he goes straight for lassie and keeps trying to get his attention instead of literally any of the other dozens of cops in the room with them and when he's telling someone to call the police he tells them to ask for lassiter, not jules, not vick, lassiter. like he spends all his time provoking lassie but the second there's danger there's literally no one else he trusts more
