About the whole Estonia thing, I am so so sorry for that. I just want to clarify that my silly little headcanons for this fictional character do not reflect my view of your (very beautiful) country. I'm so sorry that my post offended you and I'll be sure to censor the word Estonia as to not offend anyone else. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention and I'm so sorry it happened in the first place.
Thank you.
I am not so much offended as I am on guard about Hetalia fandom and its portrayal of a character that is supposed to represent Estonia. Historically, the fandom has given our country no respect, and the Nordic-Estonia relations have been one of the two reasons for it.
I've been on this site for long enough to remember what Hetalia fandom was like in 2013 and I would rather not have a repeat of that. Back then everything - our culture, language and even our flag was mocked for a joke about Estonia wanting to join the Nordics.
In real life, the relationship between Estonia and the Nordics is a long one. We did not wake up in 1991 and decide Estonia should be a Nordic, the relationship goes back centuries. Also, topical for the 23rd of August - Iceland was the first nation in the world to recognise the Baltic States in 1991 after we restored our independence.
There are some very good depictions of Estonia-Nordics historical relations by hetalians @scarlettlillies and @kruspolska if you want to learn more.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however, when it comes to Hetalia it must be taken into consideration what the source material is referencing. Not everyone is happy with the fandom for a reason, and censoring the country names is always a good idea.

I wanna write something related to the elections right now especially considering my family history with the Marcoses, but I can't on account of my medical condition. I'll write it one of these days though.

Being aromantic is tough, especially in a love-obsessed society and culture, but I feel so grateful to have lucked out with my mom.
I mean, yeah, she still says things like "You'll never know..." but she says it in a less adamant way that definitely doesn't imply that she doesn't believe me when I say it to her. I overheard her talking with my aunt saying that she was glad that I wasn't interested in relationships and both of them seem so understanding of me being aro.
She sometimes just randomly tells me stories of relatives and friends she had that lived fulfilling single lives in order to cheer me up when I lament amatonormativity and loneliness, and perks up whenever she hears real people who share my experience too!
Recently, I've noticed that she likes telling me about characters in the shows she watches that she thinks I'd relate to, and excitedly tells me when a character comes out as ace or aro or aroace.
Just- I'm so lucky to have my mom.

As much as I like the people firing the gunshots to keep rent low and purity twitter away from tumblr with cringeposting that would make 2012 blush, I feel like it's weirdly equally effective to just show them the cemetery at our backyard and be honest with how tumblr really runs right now since it's also driving those twitterinas away. Like, keep posting cringe of course, but I don't think they'd like us regardless of the amount of superwholock we bring back.

My #1 post of 2022
Being asexual is actually super fucking awesome in that there's so much diverse experiences within the community and they all subvert society's expectations in some way.
Like it's honestly so awesome that all of us have this unique view and relationship with society that adds more to known conversations and topics that most people may not even have cross their minds.
I just think it's so fucking cool and we should celebrate these diverse experiences more.

Hetalia Theory: A Brief Study of (Ancient) Korea
Aph Korea has been something that keeps going round in my mind. From what I can recall from Hima’s strip, he never exactly explicitly state what exactly aph Korea represents.
Canon-wise, we know that:
1) Aph Korea’s flag is S.Korea’s flag.
2) Korea and Japan apparently knew each other when both were kids. They look like kids in this painting at least... (this takes place at around 1300s or so... thus aph Korea's existence predate the recent separation)
And... actually that’s about it. :I
When I headcanon Ancient Korea, I tend to draw upon the HCs of kaylabow, ask-ancient-china and ask-north-korea. What wiki says about China-Korea history has it going something like this...
700 BCE- Earliest Chinese records of Gojoseon [Hetalian-brain-translator: first meeting between China and Gojoseon]
400 BCE- Capital shifted to Pyongyang
300 BCE- Jin arose in the South of the peninsula
108 BCE- Han China VS Gojoseon: Han China won and Gojoseon was split into 4 commandaries. [Hetalian-Brain-Translator: ... *unable to process* I have seen darker fics/headcanons depicting this as China VS Gojoseon resulting in the death of the latter.]
100 BCE- Fall of Gojoseon. Gojoseon more or less disintegrated by this point. Eventually, the 4 commandries set up by Han China were completely taken over by Goguryeo by 313CE. Baekje and Silla arose in the area that was Jin.
57 BCE to 669 CE- 3 Kingdoms of Korea period proper starting at roughly 300CE. Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla.
600CE-700CE- ... Many Goguryeo and Sui/Tang China conflicts (aka when Goguryeo and China fought a lot)
700 CE- Silla allied with Tang China successfully unified Korea against Goguryeo and Baekje-Japan alliance. Unified Silla is sometimes considered as the “first unified Korea” although there are disputes because there is still Balhae in the North. Thus, some consider the later Goryeo to be the “first unified Korea”. Much cultural import from China around this period. [Hetalian-brain-translator: I have seen HCs where aph Korea is Silla. Import of culture here, aka in hetalia-terms, probably the beginning of their brotherly relations. Otherwise, will happen in Goryeo’s time period]
892 CE- Later 3 Kingdoms of Korea. [Hetalian-Brain-Translator: Wait.... Did Goguryeo and Baekje revive or were they just staying in other people’s houses all this while...???]
918 CE- Goryeo. I suppose this is more or less stabilized. Probably most likely is aph Korea by this point if he wasn’t already Silla.
So... the various headcanons be like...
Version 1: Gojoseon+Jin ship [predessors/parental figures]--> Goguryeo/Baekje/Silla [descendants] --> eventually today’s Korea
Version 2: Gojoseon > Goguryeo > North Korea. Jin > Silla > South Korea. Not very sure how Baekje fits in here... I guess North and South lived together during Goryeo era(?) It looks like an evolution chain...
Version 3: Mama Gojoseon > Goguryeo/Silla/Baekje > Goguryeo eventually becomes North Korea, Silla becomes South Korea.
Version 4: There’s only ever 1 Korea. This is very unlikely imo, I can’t imagine Gojoseon calling China “aniki”. They may or may not dislike each other but it’s hard to imagine either of them acknowledging the other as “older brother’. Mostly because there aren’t records of formal cultural exchanges between the two. (aka currently the basis of some kind of familial relationship between personifications in Hetaverse) They traded though. Anyway, at least 1 predecessor feels more likely.
Basically, Gojoseon and Baekje die disappear in many timelines. :I  I wish I can get a Korean’s take on this...
My personal HC is something along the line of, Gojoseon and Goguryeo are not Yong Soo and Yong Soo’s earliest form/name is Silla or Goryeo. And mainly everything is based on which one of them are likely to be ok with calling China aniki. :v  Tbh, everything else is kinda vague...orz
End of my ramblings for  now! Walloftext much. Orz. I wanna align everyone’s timelines at some point so that I have a reference while I art. uwu

Unlike last time Hetalia got a new season, the response has not been particularly positive, and I’m seeing a lot of twisted feelings towards the show and the fandom to a point where it seems long time content creators are stepping away from it. I know anyone still active who follows me either are or were fans of Hetalia, so it should be relevant for all y’all.
As a fan who never fell out of the show, I find the response sad though healthy, and even if I know I ghosted you all on tumblr (sorry) because of time constraints and mental health, I still make the occasional CMVs. Fact is, I do not let go of special interests very easily. It seems a lot of you all started watching the show at 10-14 years old, where I myself was a bit older – 17 – and had grown a bit more. Long story short, my Naruto phase was your Hetalia phase, and no, it’s not pretty. You’re young and stupid and don’t know much critical thinking and make mistakes, and you have to forgive yourself for those mistakes, especially when the content you consume is associated with the real world in a sensitive subject.
But after seeing all these posts explaining all the bad we see from Hetalia, I wanted to make a post explaining what I learned from it – all the good that can come with a show like this if you stay aware of perspective. I am not excusing all the bad that came with it, for WWII is a serious event in history that should never be forgotten nor made fun of, but here goes:
I went from a ‘war-is-cool’ history buff to one who truly delved in and learned the intricacies of history, being fascinated with the ‘hows’ and the ‘whys’ as well as getting an excuse to look at the histories of nations which I’d never otherwise be interested in, and I know a lot of other people in the fandom did the same. This is how history should be known, as that is how we can truly apply it to the real world.
I learned to separate people from their countries. To give an example that’ll hit close to much of tumblr, when I started Hetalia I hated Americans with a passion because of the road “you” had put the world on, and I considered all y’all dumb and bad as a cause of it. Getting that excuse to take an ACTUAL look at how your nation functioned and what communities truly hid behind the borders, I learned instead that your government is corrupt as shit, your society is rigged against you and you have been forced to stand by and watch as chaos happens. It got applied to the world as a whole, where I considered other nations being as dynamic as my own, with people both good and bad, and the actions of the nation is even less of a reflection of the people in the cases of corrupt democracies or dictatorships.
I separated from Colonial world views. I was never actively racist, brought up in a proper home, and already before Hetalia I fiercely protected the rights of Muslims who are often mistreated in my nation and tried to hear them out when possible. But I was a Westerner, and even if the nation I came from had barely participated in invasions, I had learned to consider my culture ‘correct’ and native and African cultures ‘primitive’. While the journey was long, a step wise process of realizing things like there was nothing inherently ethically wrong eating dogs or partially incubated duck eggs, only in how the animals were acquired, that cultural progress is heavily dependent on perspective and that fucking genocide of native peoples still happen in this damn century, Hetalia was the stepping stone which gave me the interest in other nations to expand my world view. I probably ain’t done here – I have a whole life of outside influences to unlearn – but I’m further than most people I know in my near surroundings, and I’ve even managed to move my parents who originally taught me to respect people of all kinds in the first place.
I learned Nazis were people. This is a conversation which often comes up here on tumblr, and the demonization Nazi Germany and its government directly allows actual Nazis and fascists like Richard Spencer a free pass because they look groomed and proper. Until then, I’d simply assumed no one was ‘stupid enough to be a Nazi’ because of the atrocities of WWII and therefore looked at the world naively. Realizing how little true support Nazis had during WWII and similarly anyone could end down that pungent rabbit hole, I became careful of what I excused on social media and allowed myself to doubt seemingly normal people if their behaviour was alarming – such as the police man who is supposed to be a damn ‘hero’ of society.
I learned how to deal with material sensitive to others. A common problem in the fandom has always been the cosplaying and portrayal of Nazis, especially at cons and the like, and in a similar vein – I did blackface once because of Hetalia. The horrible thing about this is that blackface is immensely common in Europe – at least my own country – and blackface frequently happens at schools during ‘international’ events, where whole classrooms are assigned to portray a designated country. A whole of two times – in 6th grade as well as 2nd grade of high school – I was exposed to blackface as my class was given an African nation to portray – Somalia the first time, Kenya the second. No one, adult, teen or child, are aware of the history of race imitation in my country, but by the second time I was supposed to participate in dressing up as an African tribe, I’d understood the issue – thanks to Hetalia. My friend group of white, privileged, European teens discussed what symbolism was appropriate at cons or in videos – could we wear the Iron Cross? The Nazi flag? What if we burned it during the video? These thoughts are not usually a part of the mind of European youth, and I consider that a grave problem which leads to people making fun of ‘triggers’, downplaying racial issues and the like.
It offered me a means to make history personal. The biggest struggle for good history teachers and the reason we are often made to read and write letters from the periods we study is to make it seem real and get a emotional connection to these past, lost peoples. Hetalia offered puppets for me to place into historical contexts to make them truly real – the main driver pushing me away from mere fascination of war, since I suddenly felt the horrors of warfare through the characters that I loved. Things like Elizabeth I’s court, the conquests of Rome, the dissolution of the Kalmar Union, the battlefield of Somme, the invasion of America, damn slavery becomes different when something you already know is a part of it and you can see them in there. Hearing of people of the past should in itself be enough, and for the closest parts of history (WWII and afterwards) it always was for me, but we are human. We cannot understand the size of a billion, and we struggle understanding the lives of those living centuries before us, unless we are offered context.
I’m not blind to the issues of the fandom or the show. I was here for ‘the r*pist, the pervert and the p*dophile’, I know of South Korean and Chinese issues with the show, and I heard the gassing joke in the show’s dub and got nauseous from discomfort and anger. I’ve always been in the fringe of the fandom due to my social disabilities, so I don’t know everything that happened, but I’ve seen many racist OCs and disrespecting of historical sites. It’s not pretty, but I will believe these people, who were likely young, likely learned in time. And I may have been able to learn these things by other means, but not in the same way, and not through personal interest and research that’s helped me become sceptical and analysing of the world around me.
At its core, Hetalia is about watching a normal, nerdy guy learn how to draw, using stereotypic country personifications mainly from the perspective of Japan. It’s natural he chooses Japan, since he’s Japanese, and WWII is unfortunately the automatic historical event for most common people to focus on – but Hetalia doesn’t even solely focus on that, but is an amalgamation of vaguely correct historical situations played out by the characters, and often it is with the intent of comedy rather than the grimness often associated with historical settings which allows a wider audience than merely history nerds.
What I want you all to do is learn from your mistakes and forgive your younger selves for not knowing better. Maybe reflect on what you got from the show, rather than what you lost. A new generation of young Hetalians is likely coming with the new season, and us old timers might be able to help them avoid pitfalls if we stay around to teach them. The best of the show is compassion towards the people of the world combined and love of history, as I believe Hima wanted it – the worst is Nazi apologetics and racial stereotyping. We decide in what direction we take it, and what lessons we bring into the future.
TL;DR: As a lot of media intended for older audiences, Hetalia is a show which has to be watched critically, which makes it dangerous for young people to watch unhinged, but it also opens up for interest in the world beyond the borders you live within. We should be aware of the issues and learn from them, but in and of itself the show has a lot of good to offer in learning compassion for other nations and cultural groups.

This isn’t mertalia related, but I’ve been planning on making a video essay on the diffrence between Countryballs, Hetalia, and the Countryhumans fandom. All three deal with the personification of countries, yet all have a different feel to them when it comes to the fandom. It would be nice if people told me their experiences with these communities. For those who don’t know what I’m talking about-
Tumblr media
Countryballs is a user generated visual art meme, in which countries are portrayed as flag blobs. It was an internet meme that originated in 2008. It isn’t as popular now, but it is the most behaved fandom out of the three, given that shipping really isn’t the main focus of the community. The fandom really just focuses on parodying historical events.
Tumblr media
Hetalia is an anime/webcomic created by Hidekaz Himaruya in 2006. The series show cases countries as cute anime twinks that happen to be immortal. It isn’t very relevant now given that Hidekaz Himaruya is on hiatus. The fandom was at its worst when it hit it’s height in popularity, mostly because of yaoi obsessed teenagers, and the people who couldn’t differentiate fiction from reality.
Tumblr media
Countryhumans seems to be the combination of both concepts which is very odd. I don’t know where the idea originated from, or who created the designs. Even though I don’t know much about the fandom, I do know that it has a lot of problems, similar to a time in which hetalia was a popular mess.
I don’t know, this has just been on my mind ever since I’ve lurked through the Countryhumans fandom. The reason why I did was because some of them tag their ship art the same as hetalians do. (Which some hetalians come to hate.) I browsed through their content and I’ve come to the conclusion that their fandom reminds me of the time in which Hetalia was new; and by new, I mean the ship wars, glorifying nazis because doitsu, fascism, rude stereotypes, racism, and all that jazz.
It worries me a bit, because the Countryhumans fandom has a lot of children active in the community, and not many people are educating them that fetishizing tragic events is a no no.

Chaotic flag idea. Argentina and Antarctica's combined?
There's not official Antarctica flag in fact, Anon, because it's a divided territory. But I researched a little bit and there is a proyect for a global flag that could work for the combination. Hope you like it!

with Hetalia getting new season next year, it’s time to make few things clear.
This blog is not anti-hetalia.
However, that in no way means hetalia fandom bullshit will be tolerated this time around, and will be called out.
Here’s the thing:
Making fun of Eastern European flags might be cool to hetalians, but is not funny to Eastern Europeans.
Making fun of Eastern European anthems might be cool for hetalians, but it is not funny to Eastern Europeans.
Eastern European history might be joke to hetalians, but it is not a joke for Eastern Europeans.
Stay clear of the symbols and history real people in those actually existing countries care about. They’re not your toys, hetalians.

i never really vibed with the 2p! hetalians—in part because i hated the 1-dimensional “evil emo” personalities they had—but i mostly couldn’t quite articulate why. now that you say it, the association of darker skin with malicious intent is DEFINITELY a red flag, intentional or not. and ignoring that is just proving that it’s a big problem. (that and the whole mental illness=“evil uwu boys” thing)
The romanticization and demonization of mental illness in fandom is hhhhh definitely A Thing That Exists

Fandomstuck headcannons? Why not.
Hetalia would crash the economy if he got a penny for everytime somebody betrayed him (five cents if killed)
Heta too many maps and flags for one human being, like Lord Doitsu what the hell also aware he is a demon + drunk underlord who will take souls if had too much ale
All fandoms own either really good art supplies and/or drawing tablets and programs
Most fandoms don’t really know when they were born. Technically, Heta could have been born once Dark Lord Hima had the idea. Usually, fandoms celebrate it one the day it became public/celebrate anniversaries and crap (say, Homestuck would celebrate 4/13 (duh), and Hiveswap celebrates both 8/14 and 8/4)
Hetalia owned puberty but didn’t grow jack shit.
Homestuck is part troll. Let that sink in. He can cosplay and still be a troll. Boom, done, next.
at least half of all fandoms are dead inside and we know that
if you actually care enough headcannons
Hetalia is scared of Hetalian☆Jet. Really scared. Also applies to Russia’s songs.
Most fandoms don’t know anything about quadrants and that’s a fact.
If it were possible, Homestuck would be a kismesis to buckets.
thank you i hate my life

Born Beyond the Mirror Hall
Born in a Winter Wasteland
“What in the...?”
Kingstate, a growing ship known as the USUK, had been wanting to explore the frozen lands beyond the crystallized beauty that is the Hetalian Galaxy and farther more past the mysterious Mirror Hall. He was found with a stormy white flurry of snow and ice. A blizzard was raging on here. He has never seen anything like it, for the ships never experience harsh winter weathers. Wandering around this winter wilderness, he comes across a different cry of wails that didn’t come from the winds.
“What is this?”
A baby. Tucked in a powdery blue blanket in a hooded basket laid a baby boy with light honey blond hair, dressed in a familiar, tiny, colonial nightgown, and a scarf much to big for him wrapped around his small body. His eyes were scrunched shut, crying out loud. Kingstate leaned down and swiftly scooped the baby up in his arms, tucking him into his imperial red coat. Scanning the snowy terrain, he quickly made it out of the frigid land and back to the warm haven of the Hetalian Galaxy.
Kingstate was rocking the small baby in his arms, who was sleeping soundly, cuddling closely while clutching onto Kingstate’s finger. Kingstate didn’t know what to think. Here he was, a strong and powerful ship, he was, the strongest and most supported in all the Hetalian Galaxy. How is his heart melting over a small, new ship like this? When small ships like this have been crushed underneath his boot so easily? Perhaps this is what some of those weirder ships did, feeling affections for smaller ships and protecting and carrying for them. Why, Kingstate thought those thoughts and feelings were useless! The purpose of a ship is to become canon! Why help others that could take your spot?
So why did he save this one from where he could’ve died all on his own out there in the cold?
“Mph...”
The little baby boy in his arms slowly opens his eyes, blinking in a cute fashion. Then with wide-eyed curiosity, he breaks into an innocent smile, oblivious to the war outside.
Kingstate stares down at the little one. Did he not fear against him? Was he not scared? Wasn’t he afraid of the powerful ship?
No.
No, he wasn’t.
Kingstate clutched the child close to him, rocking back and forth.
“It’s still nighttime, kiddo,” he whispered in a lulled voice, “Sleep.”
The child nodded with a small giggle. Then he closes his eyes and drifts off again.
This left Kingstate to wonder what he is to do with the child. Now, he felt like he was obliged to care and protect the little one and let him fight his own battles when he’s stronger.
Perhaps, he’ll be Kingstate’s first alliance. He’s never had anyone like that for he’s always been a lone wolf. Trusting no one.
Little did he know, on the basket that was left in the raging winter had a tag with two flags being pulled and whirled around in the wind, keeping the flags from flying away. On it was the American flag and the Russian flag

Ok I know this is terrible and the quality isn’t best but I want this to have most if not all of my art so yeah I have to start coming to terms that everything you see here isn’t my best buuuut it’s part of my art and that’s okay ~v~
Anyway, so if there are two things I am PASSIONATE about they gotta be Yuri!!! On Ice and Hetalia. And since YoI has such a diverse cast I had the perfect opportunity to mix both in one so here it is! All the skaters posing along with their respective countries. I was very lucky because 99% of them were canon Hetalian representations, but I had to add my own OC of Kazakhstan cause yeah, Hima doesn’t love our Otabek baby (look at how cute he looks he is so blushu-blushu because he loves his country so much and he is honoured and Kazakh is so proud of him and HHHH♥). .
My idea was to scan this and take some time to digitally colour this but I did not like the result at all so I ended up like abandoning the idea so… Maybe if I see a lot of positive responses here I will do it? At least I should do the flags or something so the blank pieces of cloth here and there make sense hahahaha
Anyway the tags would be long so sorry for that in advance!

I have kept silent but today I am ranting about writers. Now I will specifically address the fanfiction writers in a specific fandom however it can be implied to literally any other kind of literature TW: this is about abuse and Rape in fiction and sexual stuff.
This is also my personal opinion
I will be writing this in second person but I am not attacking only you. My wording is harsh cause I can no longer be sensitive about this shit.
1. Nonconsentual Sex: People love to place this in tag lists. Hear me out. When a sexual act is not consentual it is RAPE. If you are too scared to use this word then do not include it in your story. If you think it disturbs your readers stay away from this. I am tired of people trying to find fancy ways to name this gross action. You need to break taboos if you want to write about that. Name the action by its actual name please. Thank you
2. Lets stay on this topic. Consent. In case you didn'tknow both parties have to agree. I have read so often that one, usually the less dominant character, isn't ready for it. But the other character still continues. I know what you are trying to do but often times it has the bitter taste of Nr.1 cause its executed poorly. Clear consent is so much better. If you have to convince someone to have Sex that is a red flag for me. If the love interest steps down and accepts that its much better to read. Let them have a discussion. Give that one character the time they need.
3. Abuse/toxic relationships: This trope holds so much potential. The fact that you guys mess it up constantly pisses me off. First of all its a slap in the face for everyone who had to go through that shit in some way. This trope is realistic and relatable to a lot of people. Whats the mistake I am talking about? Making it seem sexy and romantic. Its toxic and horrible and the victim will have scars for the rest of their life. Yet soo many of you want to sell this to me as a nice healthy even hot relationship. There are two things that make this worse: 1. These fanfiction writers are probably mostly teens. The fact that minors throw this out makes me worry for the future. 2. These writers often want to make me sympathize with the actions of the abuser. This character is a piece of shit. Idc how traumatized they are. Its never an excuse to abuse someone. Being controlled and isolated and forced into dependency from said abuser is also not healthy or swoon-worthy, hot or amything. Its gross. And get therapy and meds dear authors cause if this stays untreated I am worried about your partners. These tendencies are not always just edgy teen-behaviour in my opinion. You guys remind me of Onision.
4. There is one fandom that I am in who loves all of the things above. And one thing in particular: Incest or Germancest cause I am calling you out my dear Hetalians. Its not legal its not romantic. Its pretty damn disgusting. And I would highly appreciate if this trope would be forgotten . There lots of better things out there. Why doesn it have to be that one!?
5. Unless your character is immortal please stay realistic when it comes to injuries and keep in mind how much a human can endure. I know that Animes bend this rule a lot. But some of you guys take it way too far. Also if I have one or even more pages of injury-description it is too much and too long. You do not need to explain every detail
6. The same goes for descriptions of sperm and vaginal discharge in your lemons. I hate it. Also meaby do some research in anatomy and also let me understand what the characters are doing. Some of you guys confuse the shit out of me when it comes to positions.
7. Idk if you my dear authors know this. But it takes some effort to write a story. You can't just vomit words on a page in 2 hours and then sell it to me as a oneshot. Your lack of work will be obvious to the readers. And your story will not be good
8. When people want to include another lenguage in their work its often poorly done. The grammar sucks or even entire words are incorrectly translated. Sometimes you have to do more than using Google translator. (Given the goal was to get it right. Sometimes characters can and should be clumsy)
9.No matter how old you are as an author you are responsible for the content you put out there. Could you please treat your work and the topics you want to include with the equivalent amount of care? Not everything can be covered and excused with the term art.
Additionally pay attention to the poeple you want to reach (age!) and also please keep in mind: You can not include every single trope in the fandom you are in. If you are an adult and you fetishize things like my little Pony for example burn in hell!
