Despite MFB's selling point being "more metal for everyone" (y'know, Metal Fight Beyblade), it was the only series to ever release beys with no metal

So early into Metal Fusion, they realized they didn't have much variety with fusion wheels. Every bey was using the same handful of them, and players were getting tired of having half a dozen of the same wheel. Takara Tomy recognized this, and made light wheels. Basically, beys where the fusion wheel was replaced with a plastic variant of the same shape. This would drive down production costs, and the beys were sold for around half the price of beys with metal

Three light wheel beys appeared in the anime: Mad Cancer, Wind Aquario, and Clay Aries. Since Hasbro never made light wheels, the dub renamed them to Storm Aquario and Rock Aries. Mad Cancer was changed to Mad Gasher for unrelated reasons, and while it was released as Dark Gasher, the anime kept it as Mad for plot reasons

MFB's localization as a whole was weird. It was pretty faithful to the original material, but also oddly inconsistent when it came to name changes (Killer and Hell get renamed but Death and Diablo don't. The dub keeps the special move Beautiful Dead and the line "[spoiler] will die," but the move Venom Genocide gets changed to Venom Strike)

how much HAS the whole existing-to-sell-some-toys thing impacted the show, actually? clearly in bakuten shoot the creators just kind of Went Ham and from what i've heard burst is. KIND OF VERY FUCKED UP, so i gotta wonder if the toyline side of things and the anime/manga side of things just don't really like. get involved with eachother all that much

Y'know what, I think maybe I don't need any more Murderbot books. I think maybe ending things here is fucking perfect and as much as I love Wells's writing I'm genuinely not sure it can get better for me.

Like, so much of the books are about MB learning how to be a person, about becoming okay with being a complete individual with everything it entails. The first thing it does once it's actually allowed to decide on its own is it runs away from it all (admittedly to go on a mission to confirm some things about its past, because it genuinely just wants to be *good*). It shoves all its emotions away as much as it's able to. Then shit happens, and it makes its first friends, makes decisions based on these friendships, goes through a lot of emotionally intense situations...

And we get to this point here. MB having zero doubts about going with ART says a lot about its relationship with ART, but it also says a lot about its relationship with its humans - it knows that wherever it goes, when it comes back, the humans will still be there. Its humans actively acknowledge its struggles with being a now-free SecUnit and MB is willing to entertain the discussions to an extent and share information about its deeply personal experiences. Hell, System Collapse ends with MB admitting it might be somewhat broken, but that's okay as long as it can keep doing its job, and agreeing to basically do counselling - this is the guy what would rewatch its favourite TV show again and again in order to avoid acknowledging it even had Emotions a couple books back.

Reading this, I know that MB will be okay. It has hopes and goals and genuinely believes in itself and it has an amazing support system that its willing to lean on for the first time in its life. I'm convinced it'll go on to do great things with ART. And that's really the only thing I need to know.

thinking of evil!freddy again… and am thinking doing it different this time inspired by posts I’ve seen about freddy wanting to distance himself from the figure head he has to be.. he wants to be his own person and not this puppet who has to deliver everything he has each second of his life.. and you can tell in the game whenever there’s a voice recording of Freddy he distances from it because it is not truly him..

so in this au I thought that when Freddy glitches out on stage he’s sent to repairs.. but something snaps in him and he decides to escape.. so the rest of the band has have to fill Freddy’s shoes… some being happy to get the spotlight but Bonnie was quite upset to Freddy disappearing ):

So freddy in this is more that he refuses to follow rules anymore., and somehow fuelled by some sort of anger and despair.. I wonder. But he soon joins up with Gregory and Bonnie <33

there's this annoying subsection of Internet Leftist that like, pays lip service to socialism but is also deeply entrenched in capitalist hyper-consumerism. like, you know that socialism isn't just "i can continue my same excessive and unsustainable consumption, but this time for free", right? 

like, of couse bread and roses and whatnot; any decent implementation of socialism shouldn't force everyone to live in bleak minimalist utilitarianism, and everyone deserves a bit of luxury in their lives. but certain levels of over-consumption are inherently unsustainable and inherently cannot exist without someone being exploited. "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism", but some kinds of consumption could not exist under socialism; would you be ready to give those up when the time comes?

I did spend a good chunk of time last Friday unleashing on him about our absolutely abysmal "merit increase" budgets. We're talking about one of the top 15 companies in the world by market cap, whose annual revenue went up 14% in 2023, and because we apparently didn't hit some unknown secret business unit goals, they're not even giving people enough money to cover cost-of-living increases.

I am incensed. And obviously, I'm already three quarters of the way out the door and I'm very happy with what I was able to negotiate for my new position, so it was very easy for me to be blunt-as-fuck with him but honestly, the abject greed is just beyond the pale. And of course they're trying to ameliorate it by saying that anyone over a certain pay grade isn't getting any raise at all. But everyone at that pay grade or higher has STOCK! A stock that has gone up by 5% in value over the last year, and 90% in the past five years.

UGH. I can't WAIT to quit.

Those divorce papers are getting signed this afternoon. I used some other "high priority" item to get him to meet with me today. He's NOT ESCAPING THIS DIVORCE! I will hunt him down if I have to.

Is it just me or is Tumblr getting kinda "phone=bad" in regards to AI??? Like, AI technology isn't inherently bad and could actually be used for good if handled properly. The problem isn't the tech itself but rather that people and corporations using it for unethical reasons and I feel like placing the blame solely on the technology and believing that it's the AI's fault is counter-productive and loses sight of what's actually happening here. By scapegoating AI we're pretty much allowing those actually responsible to get away with what they've done consequence-free. Do I think there should be legislation on AI? Yes. Do I think there should be limits placed on AI based on ethics? Ofc. But, I think it's important to remember that corporations using AI to steal from people, or even worse, trying to use it to pretty much digitally OWN people is the real problem, not the AI itself.
