I personally find Leo's emotional faces both very wholesome and very funny at the same time.

This is inspired by a mini-comic I saw a about Future Leo holding baby Casey and getting struck by cute aggression. Casey was so cute that Leo couldn't help but softly bite Casey's cheek. For some reason, I cannot for the life of me find it, though.

I usually don't draw cute things, but I think I did a good enough job here. I'm also working on bonus pages. It was only supposed to be one, but I couldn't fit everything in so I had to compromise with two pages instead.

This Leo exists like few years after the Kraang invasion so he looks different from the movie version, which is why he still has his arm. (The robot arm is a pain to draw btw.)

The art-style in the following pages might change (surprise, surprise) a little or a lot depending on what I feel like.

Yes, this was a real thing we had to help with once.

Even though he complains, Donnie feels a lot of pride being looked to as the family expert for these things, I’m sure. For all that Splinter probably doesn’t know the deep intricacies of computers, I’ll bet he knows the basics. Could there be a deeper meaning to his confusion?

I personally headcanon that Splinter is the one who introduced computers, phones, and appliances to his sons way back in the dumpster diving days, and probably showed Donnie how to fix his first toaster or something. However, the special interest kicked in hard and pretty soon Donnie could run circles around Splinter when it came to fixing and engineering stuff. Perhaps, this is a way Splinter can find time to partake in Donnie’s interests and boost his confidence despite being way out of his depth on technical know-how himself.

When you don’t have a lot, it’s important to be resourceful and handy with a quick fix. Donnie had to have started building stuff somewhere!

It makes it all the more bittersweet if they were really close only to have Splinter struggle to bond with Donnie when he’s a little older. Don’t worry though, they’ll figure it out :)

So like. The whole story has been so much fun, so well written; there's been fun call-backs both to the show itself and to earlier in the fic, amazingly balanced action, comedy, emotions.

Little did you know knitting is hard

you were trying your hardest at knitting, you really were! But you couldn’t get the movements right, and the needles were so hard to move. It was honestly frustrating. Your eyebrows furrowed together as you again attempted to start a chain, you didn’t know how Raph did it. Your thoughts were disrupted by his voice ringing out “ -you’re not doin it right, here let me show you! “ he would walk over to where you were sitting and leaned over you. His plastron hitting your head slightly. It didn’t bother you, since you were distracted by his big hands grabbing yours and leading your movements, his voice didn’t process in your ears as you tried keeping your blush down. You decided it was best to focus back in so you could do it without him leading your hands, has it always been this hot in here? it was probably just you. He eventually let go of your hands “ you alright? your face is all red, are you sick? “ you could only chuckle and shake your head “ I’m alright love “ you promised before going back to knitting, so what if you were purposefully accidentally messing up? you were happy to be spending time with him.

You were genuinely so excited when you found out he could skate

Didn’t even think about how hard skating is

You didn’t take in account that even when walking you kept falling over, so on wheels? Forget it your ass is grass. a few hard falls and scrapped knees later you eventually could balance on it. Trying to get going was the hard part, you brought your foot down and completely fell off. you landed on your rear-end so at least you weren’t bleeding again “ that must’ve hurt wheel bad “ you glared up at him, but your brows lifted as you chuckled. stepping back on you felt his hands on your waist as he walked next to you. “ your posture and stance is so bad “ Leo chuckled, you gave him a playful glare. your face was red though, Leo’s hand held onto you as you put down a foot and touched the floor. Letting out a excited cheer you smiled up at Leo he smirked “ I guess I’m your lucky charm Hm? “

Donnie

Coding was intriguing, to you at least

Watching Donnie spend hours on it while you do..your own thing was fun

you poor unfortunate soul. Donnie was a amazing teacher, and nothing but patient at that. you just didn’t realize how hard coding actually was. “ okay! so- “ typing in the code you hummed in frustration. It didn’t work. Donnie reached over you, his hand taking on top of yours and like a puppet on a string he used your fingers to type in the code “ that will make it work. You weren’t listening dum-dum “ he gently reprimanded. You just simply leaned into his touch. you were on his bed, sitting in front of him. He simply laid down, it was the quiet hours of the night when both of you couldn’t fall asleep. you listened to all of Donnie’s rambles, tonight you wanted to use that knowledge. Typing away you noticed as he watched, even when you stilled or slowed down as your brain picked apart what you needed to do. Eventually you got it to work. It was a simple website for your art, but god was it amazing “ you finally did it, salutes “ his tone blunt and calm, but you could read the fine print, he was proud of you.

you got the answer to your own question: you’re shit at it. Mikey was painting next to you before he paused “ you’re holding it all wrong silly! “ he walked up behind you and grabbed your hand moving the paint can he took control off your arm and made a few strokes down like you were doing. His head resting on your shoulder, music blaring into your ears from the headphones he was wearing. Mikey simply smiled at you, his orange mask stained with paint from his messy fingers working it, you’ve come to realize Mikey has many masks. And not just Dr. Delicate Touch or Dr. Feelings. But he literally has a whole drawer full of him and his brothers masks, in case anyone needs a replacement. He let go of your hand as you continued the movements getting brought back by his comforting weight leaving your shoulder “ there we go! see now you’re holding it right, you should put on some music really get in the moment “

Artist note:

When I first heard that the Rise boy’s have two long lost sisters. My first thought was they were Venus and Jennika. I had thought about how they’ll be introduced in my version until a Q&A interview with the creator on Twitter. One of their sisters work for Big Mama and he suggested her name was going to be Frida or something like. He wanted to name them after female artist. And the other sister was going to be lost in other dimension. Because of this I rethought the boy’s sisters. Another reason to the change of sisters, which is lame and you might hate me for, I later didn’t know or really care for Venus and Jennika. Instead I replace them with an original character, Frida, and brought back their human sister, Miwa, who is also their half-sister.

Originally, Miwa was plan to be mutated as a turtle, obviously I scrapped it. She isn’t a long lost sister, she a bonus or a surprise sister. Splinter didn’t knew he has a daughter with his ex-wife, Tang Shen, until she randomly showed up in the lair saying she’s his daughter.

Originally, Venus de Magic, the statue that the boys saw in the Magic Town House. Was supposed to be Venus de Milo. She was going to have illusion nippo that allowed her to disguise and live among the human. But that was scrapped, however the illusion nippo was kept for Frida along wither her tessen. Frida is the assistant that works for Big Mama, well in my version she’s actually Big Mama’s adoptive daughter, Olivier, assistant.

“I know.”

That made him stumble, and Mikey frowned. He wasn’t meant to agree. Mark that down for later. “Because, you know, when someone stumbles in the door from some future timeline (add reverb) to change the course of history, it kinda means that whichever future he came from was a lost cause. That much is obvious. You ain’t protecting us from squat.”

Silence.

Mikey sat up. “I know Donnie dies,” he said, and watched Leo flinch. He knew how Donnie died. That part, he would leave out just in case. “Dad would have died from old age if nothing else, but I’m pretty sure he never got that far. Raph woulda died before all of us. I know I was still there at the end. So were you. Because we were the ones who sent him here.”

“Yeah,” Leo said quietly. “You opened a portal through time. Pretty amazing.”

“I know, right?”

“Be more amazing if you’d survived doing it.”

I finished this comic about a month ago but couldn't bring myself to post it. It started as a simple illustration and then I just kept adding more and more and at some point I had to stop myself and cut the story short. I'm still not entirely satisfied with the result but... well. I like it. That's enough.

I have been wanting to do something for @somerandomdudelmao apocalypse series au again for some time, especially with all the heartwarming, soul soothing and/or crushing updates lately, but couldn't figure out what I wanted to do. Then one day I was listening to my rottmnt spotify playlist and this song started playing and it just set off a chain reaction of thoughts and images in my head and thus this animatic was born!

I was also heavily inspired to try and make an animatic (this is honestly the first time I've made something to this degree) by @tapakah0 and all their beautiful and wonderful animatics that give me all the emotions!

If you haven't read the Cass Apocalyptic Series I highly recommend it!

ROTTMNT: Purr

Tot Donatello lurks around the corner of the TV room. A small sniff gave away his position.

“Purple?” Splinter turns his head. Finding his red eyed son fidgeting with his thumbs.

“Dad.. Do you have a voice recorder?”

“A voice recorder? I do have one, but what’s the occasion?” Splinter stands up from his chair and searches through a box of nostalgic items.

“I need it to.. fix something.” The soft shell rubs his snout, not willing to look his father directly in the eyes.

“Alright, my son.” He moves towards Purple, pressing the recorder in his small hands. “But if you need to talk, you know where to find me, little one.”

Donatello nods as he backs away from his dad and heads to his lab. He glances at the voice recorder, testing the buttons to see if everything is functional.

“I can fix this..” Donnie mumbles to himself, clenching the recorder tight before closing the door of his lab behind him.

Two hours go by. A nervous soft shelled turtle exits the lab, holding a certain plush friend in his hands. He takes a deep breath, dragging his feet to the play room.

“Well, well, well! Who do we have here?!”

Donnie’s path gets blocked by his angered blue brother. When a silence falls, Leo sneers.

“What? Nothing to say? Raph is still trying to calm Mikey down!”

A fragile sob can be heard from behind Leonardo. The two pause.

“I… I can fix it.” Donnie then tries to force his way through, only for Leo to grab him by the shoulders.

“Fix it? D! You really hurt his feelings!”

“I know!” Shaking his brother off, he steps into the play room.

Mikey sits atop Raph’s lap, his hands intertwined with his big brother. Tears still roll down Mikey’s cheek as the two notice Donnie coming in.

A tad hesitant, tot Donnie walks closer to his brothers. He exhales before kneeling down.

“M-Mikey.. I’m.. I’m sorry for-“

“No.. you were right.” Michael continues to cry. “Stuffed animals can’t feel anything.”

Raph hugs his little brother tight to his chest.

“No, I was wrong..” Donnie opens his hand to reveal a familiar face.

The box shell’s eyes light up as he sees his lost friend again.

“Mr Kitty!? But I thought you were gonna throw him away!” Mikey gently takes his plushie back, hugging him tight.

“Prrrr! Prrrr!”

To Mikey’s surprise, Mr Kitty releases a sound that sounds familiar, yet, heartwarming.

“Mr Kitty purred!?”

“Yes, he will now respond to you.” Donnie rises back to his feet. “I just helped him find his voice.” He moves away, walking towards the hallway.

Glued to the improved Kitty, Mikey speaks up:

“Dee?”

“Yeah?”

“Thank you.”

Donnie didn’t need to turn around to know the genuine smile that came with Mikey’s words of gratitude.

Moving past the slider turtle, Leo whispers:

“That was your voice, wasn’t it?”

Donnie’s ears change to a slightly redder hue. “Don’t you dare tell him that!”

Leo snickers wholeheartedly.

“Don’t worry, bro.” The two stare at their little brother who’s happily rubbing his face against Mr Kitty.

“He already knows.”

Thoughts on Cass’ ROTTMNT Future AU Casey series?

What, you mean you haven’t noticed me crying in the comment section as much as everyone else? Haha, but seriously. @somerandomdudelmao story is one of my all time favorites and very near and dear to my heart. I think that’s why their latest update hit me so hard. I suppose it’s only fair given my past sins.

I feel close to their story since we’re both trying to tell more canonically accurate bad future stories. A fellow soldier in arms haha. This is just my interpretation but I like that it feels as if Cass’ story is more in line with the fun (but still emotional), episodic vibe of the Rise show, while mine is closer in tone to the Rise movie. I don’t think this was at all intentional on either of our parts but it’s a fun detail to think about.

I’ve done a little crossover with them during the Peepaw Showdown competition which you can find in my Masterpost. It’s very short but a really fun and heartwarming read. Recommend it if you haven’t.

On top of all that Cass had mentioned sneaking some nods to Replica into their story so I recommend rereading their whole comic and see if you can find them ;) I will definitely be throwing in a nod or two for their story into Replica.
