(I promise I reach a conclusion at the end bear with me)
Something I've really noticed is that whenever people are around, Apollo gets really queasy when it comes to the human body. An example is The Grey Sisters' eyeball, he immediately got squeamish and screamed about how gross that was. He becomes an awful doctor/healer, randomly prescribing aspirin to everything.
But the moment there isn't someone around or a healer in sight he immediately becomes the best doctor in the world??? He got grossed out by an eyeball but as soon as he saw Lu's cut-off and mutilated arms, he didn't flinch and healed her almost fully with a tiny speck of godly power and a first aid kit.
Same thing with Frank he panicked and went straight to business as he realized that action needed to be taken immediately and cutting off his reunion with Artemis.
And I say he does this on purpose to encourage maybe his children to take action in situations he knows they can and he won't show off vital skills just like that. Apollo lets people do it because they need to learn this in order to survive, and my guess is he's been doing this for millennia to let humans and demigods alike to grow more proficient and confident in their skills so that they do not need him.
When Artemis said Apollo wasn't as good as Asclepius in healing because he didn't really practice and didn't care and that it would take too much time, she was wrong. He probably worked on his healing ability for centuries and just wouldn't show it. When Frank fainted, immediately his reflexes kicked in to save him which is an obvious sign.
Not only that, he said so himself that he had collected the spit of so many animals to check their healing properties in the first book, and unfortunately did not do lions. That just shows commitment.
What am I trying to prove here? Not a clue, just that everyone's wrong about him and he's an actual healer god, one of the best there is, but just doesn't show it to encourage others to become doctors and save people, which is literally the best thing they can do in life. Apollo is gifting them a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to do so much good.
The main point of ToA is healing and recovery. Mostly from Zeus' abuse in this case and how he tried to save everyone unlike the god of destruction everyone thinks he is.
My belief is that Apollo's main domain is healing and all his other ones are kinda a part of that. Music no need to go into, the sun is rejuvenating and represents a fresh start, prophecies are all about knowledge, which can also be healing, plague is needed to balance it out and is needed sometimes for recovery, and archery connects with the plague which shows death is needed for life and is in fact vital.
Apollo is the god of healing.

I find it kinda amusing how Apollo is generally accepted to be the master of all healing arts and yet some authors ascribe the discovery of specific fields of medicine/health to him. Like yes this god knew all the healing stuff but he really, really liked this one specifically.
Hyginus has recorded a tradition where Apollo was the first to discover eye treatment. Why the eye specifically? What was the reason??
Another example is, him basically founding what seems to be nutritional science:
"(Quantity) is as important as quality, for sometimes a slight change in quantity produces a great change in quality, as with wine. First making men more cheerful, later it undermines morals and sanity. This difference is generally ignored in things in which the result is not so pronounced, although everything eaten is the cause of a certain peculiar disposition. Hence it requires great wisdom to know and perceive which quality and quantity of food to eat. This science, first unfolded by Apollo and Phaon, was later developed by Asclepius and his followers."
– Iamblichus, The Life Of Pythagoras (trans. Kenneth Guthrie)
He even teamed up with a mortal for this (Phaon was totally Apollo's test subject trust me I was there) it's more surprising because gods don't even need to eat (I think) so really, what made him passionate about this specifically.

Actually probably the most healing and productive narrative consequence to Leo’s resurrection could have been him having to work for Asclepius.
Whatever powers that be see it as a punishment for both sides but these are two isolated people who care a lot. It’s a peaceful welcome for Leo, which is something he needs, and he doesn’t even realize how much so.
And yeah, Asclepius had to be tricked into helping them with the cure but he treated them without prompting or desire for anything in return, which is very ungodlike.
And Leo has just faced the culmination of his destructive abilities and been destroyed by them, saved the world with them and there is something so soft and freeing about not being expected to break anything anymore. Instead he gets to help with and eventually learn how to fix things- to heal people. He once regretted how he couldn’t fix Jason’s injuries because people weren’t as simple as machines, but he could learn, and learn from the best.
And more likely than not, having a connection to the outside world that lasts longer than a few minutes might change the doctor’s mind about staying in his little prison. It’d be only fair for all he’s done for Leo.
Basically, Asclepius being the parental figure Leo deserves and Leo getting to find something on his own that makes him happy.

I have been having a hard time cleaning around the house for various reasons, but with it being warmer, I thought I would pick back up or, at least, be less difficult.
You can guess how that went.
So I wore my face mask at work while giving offerings of dance and song to Apollo. I gave offerings of being a good guest and song to Hestia while staying over a partners home for her birthday. I did skincare and took magical baths, and talked about wedding planning while giving offerings of k!nk to Lady Aphrodite. I gave offerings of research to Mother Hera and gave some local kids' craft supplies and kindness.
I rested and enjoyed myself and tried not to worry about the small things (and maybe drank a bit more wine than planned).
I started today with incense and a lit candle to Hestia while wearing one of her favorite headcoverings of mine. And well, it hasn't been a lot, but I've been cleaning and got more done today than I have in a long time. I'm not sure how much I will get done today, but I am very proud of myself!

to fanfic writers
y'all ever have those moments where you have a song lyric, a character, and a canon event to write some mega angst with, and yet the only thing your brain actually does with those things is make you sad?

What are these numbers, Rick?
Ok, so, I was going through the first Percy Jackson book trying to figure out how many campers would be in each cabin at the start of the series before the war. And just, the numbers that Percy gives the reader are weird? I guess?
Ok, so in “My Dinner Goes Up In Smoke“ Percy gives the reader of how many campers there are at camp with the following line:
“In all, there were maybe a hundred campers, a few dozen satyrs, and a dozen assorted wood nymphs and naiads.“
Ok, that’s a lot of demigods. There are 12 cabins so it makes sense that there would be a lot of demigods. But Cabin 1-3 are empty as is Cabin 8. But these numbers wouldn’t be so weird if Percy didn’t give us some numbers for the other cabins.
In the same chapter he gives the reader a rough idea of how many campers are in Cabin 11 and Cabin 6.
Cabin 11: "The whole cabin, about twenty of us, filed into the commons yard."
Cabin 6: "Annabeth sat at table six with a bunch of serious-looking athletic kids, all with her gray eyes and honey-blond hair."
Cabin 11 is an estimate so not concrete and a bunch when referring to people can mean 5 or more from results that the internet gave me when asking what a bunch refers to.
He also gives us more information in “We Capture a Flag“. We get concrete data points for Cabin 12, 9, and 5.
"From what I'd seen, Dionysus's kids were actually good athletes, but there were only two of them.”
"Hephaestus's kids weren't pretty, and there were only four of them, but they were big and burly from working in the metal shop all day."
That of course, left Ares's cabin: a dozen of the biggest ugliest, meanest kids on Long Island, or anywhere else on the planet."
Whereas the remaining cabins we aren’t given any concrete data to work with. He mentions Demeter and Aphrodite kids, but only that he doesn’t think that for Capture the Flag that they will be a threat. Nothing about how many kids each of them have. Only Apollo gets a mention about the size.
"Athena had made an alliance with Apollo and Hermes, the two biggest cabins."
So, here I am trying to figure out just how big these cabins are. So, if we take the estimate of a 100 campers as the number of campers at camp that is our starting number. Hermes and Apollo are the biggest so no one else can have 20 campers since that is how many Hermes has roughly.
So, when we take Cabin 11 out of the equation we have 80 campers left to distribute. Unknown how many are in Cabin 7 just that they have a lot. Taking out Cabin 12, 9, and 5 that takes 18 campers out of the equation leaving us with 62 campers to figure out which cabin they go in. As I said, a bunch seems to refer to 5 or more when referring to people. And when Percy was talking about a bunch in relation to Cabin 6 it was Annabeth and a bunch of her siblings. So, she wasn’t included in that initial number. So, I’m going to go with Cabin 6 having 6 kids. At least for the purposes of trying to figure out how many are left to divide between the three remaining cabins. So, take 6 campers out of 62 campers leaves us with 56 campers.
56 campers being divided between the three remaining cabins seems like a lot. Cabin 4 and 10 aren’t being mentioned have having a lot of campers, but they also aren’t really mentioned as having very few campers either. I’m not sure if I would say either of them would have a dozen campers either though. If I just assume that Apollo has about 20 campers then dividing the remaining 36 campers would get 18 campers in Cabin 4 and 10, which seems like that would be too many for Percy to dismiss their cabins no matter what their skill levels are like. If I go with about 10 campers in Cabin 4 and 10 than that means that Cabin 7 would have 36 campers, which seems like too many campers for one cabin.
There is always the case that Cabin 6 and Cabin 11 actually have more than I assume that they have as well. And there is always the case that there are less than a hundred campers at camp as well. Just a hundred is the number that Percy gives out so that is naturally the number that I want to start playing around with.
Just, Rick gave us numbers and I am of course trying to figure out what these numbers mean and how to divide them up among the cabins.

Years after the events of all the Percy Jackson book (including Trials of Apollo) Hades has another child, and as this child grows up, mostly in Camp Half-Blood, they get really into medicne and healing.
At first everyone is a little scared of the child of Hades hanging around the healers and the medical areas, but after two or three years they just accepted that the child wanted to be there and nothing would change that.
Then one day a camper comes in with what will almost certainly be a fatal injury. The healers do their best to stop it and try to make the camper comfortable, when suddenly the child of Hades pushes through everyone. At first old fears and stereotypes flash before everyone’s eyes. Everyone is terrified that the child is going to kill this camper.
Instead they start treating the wound grabbing seemingly unrelated items and using them. It’s a long and exhausting process, but the camper lives with nothing more than an gnarly scar.
The head healer goes up to the child and asks why they helped.
The child, being like nine or ten, goes, “I can see the dead. But I can also see where fatal injuries are. It’s like their soul starts to become detatched from their body in that spot. So if I can see that all I need to do is stop it.”
In other words I want to see a little healer child in Camp Half-Blood that is also a healer. Because it would be adorable. I don’t know why but I also want them to be friends with just the most violent child of Apollo. No one knows which part of the duo they should be more afraid of.

One thing I’ll never get about the pjo fandom is how some people are in the comments saying “That’s unprofessional. Will’s a doctor, he should know better.” Like, no? This man did not and has not ever gone to medical school. He’s a 14 year old loser that someone went up to one day, handed a scalpel, and said “you’ll be operating in five.” Yes he has healing powers. But when it comes to actual medical procedures? This boy has no qualifications other than his father and has very little idea what he’s doing. He’s not going to know all the rules that normal, trained doctors know. And, sometimes, he’s going to have unhealthy and unprofessional habits. That’s why his official title isn’t Doctor; it’s “Camp Healer.”
I’VE SAID THIS COUNTLESS TIMES AND I’LL SAY IT AGAIN:
- NICO IS SO DEPRESSED AND IRON DEFICIENT THAT HE COULD LITERALLY SLEEP FOR DAYS ON END AND STILL WAKE UP TIRED
- WILL PUMPS HIMSELF FULL OF CAFFEINE AND GOES DAYS WITHOUT SLEEPING BECAUSE HIS SAVIOR COMPLEX CAUSES HIM TO FEEL GUILTY WHENEVER HE LEAVES THE INFIRMARY FOR MORE THAN A COUPLE HOURS
- NICO GETS WILL TO SLEEP AND WILL GETS NICO TO WAKE UP AND GO OUTSIDE
thank you for coming to my tedtalk :)
