My god, Cassian is just so young in season 1 of Andor. On this last rewatch, it kept jumping out at me everywhere. Especially at the start of the show, which makes sense--he goes through a pretty intense education over the course of the season and transforms before our eyes. But there's just so much in Cassian that comes from being young, traumatized, and desperate.
We see it in his moments of unabashed fear, like when he's stopped by the two corpos in the pilot, the first time he sees the TIE fighter fly past on Aldhani, or as the prison transport takes off for Narkina 5. Even when he tries to hide it, we can see it in his eyes, the parts of him that are still that scared kid from Kenari.
We see it in the chip he has on his shoulder, like the attitude he cops with Luthen in their first meeting: "I don't know you." He's not just guarded and distrustful, he kind of actively resents this guy trying to get too familiar with him. When he's scared, uncertain, or guilty, he tends to push others away, a product of having to fight most of his life and of losing many of the things and people he's cared about. I also think of him coldly telling Bix, "You won't have to worry about me anymore," at the end of their argument in "Announcement."
And yet, by the same token, he can also be surprisingly open and earnest in his affections. For me, this is most apparent in his scenes with Maarva in "Announcement." There, we see his naive optimism that the money he got from Aldhani can solve all their problems. He's so buoyant and hopeful and loving as he suggests running away, saying, "What do we need but the three of us?" Later in the episode, we see that same naivety when he insists, "We'll find a place they haven't ruined yet." But it crops up in other places too. On Aldhani, he chooses Clem's name as his pseudonym, even though he already realizes Luthen has a lot of intel on him and will probably recognize it--in that moment, his distrust of Luthen is outweighed by his desire to go into this dangerous mission carrying a small piece of his dad with him. Then there's that beautiful hug with Brasso in "Rix Road," especially those few extra beats past when you'd expect them to part. When he hugs Melshi in the previous episode, Cassian is rushed, on the brink of falling apart and not wanting Melshi to see. But with Brasso, Cassian needs that touch for a few extra seconds, and he's not afraid to hold on a little longer.
Most of Cassian's dumbest mistakes in the season are very youthful ones. He's an incredibly smart and observant guy, so he's not dumb very often, but when he is, it tends to come back to being young, traumatized, and desperate. We see this especially in the opening Ferrix arc: insisting on bringing an unsecured comm to his meeting with Luthen (oh my god, the way he bickers with B2EMO about them beforehand!) and trying to go back for the starpath unit when the shit hits the fan, even after Luthen repeatedly tells him to leave it. With the starpath unit, part of it is naivety--"What if it's just one guy left?"--and part of it is growing up poor and scrappy. This box represents more money than he's ever had at any one time, and he simply can't process the idea that his buyer would just leave it behind.
Finally, every now and then, Cassian has this subtle but impeccable "little shit" energy. We definitely see it when he messes with Timm in the pilot, deliberately goading him instead of trying to defuse the situation when he sees that Timm is jealous. It's a dumb, petty moment of cheap satisfaction that winds up with some intense blowback when Timm IDs him to Pre-Mor. And I love Cassian's refusal to give up on Kino on Narkina 5, always believing he can be brought into the fold no matter how many times Kino tells him to forget about it. It's a great reflection of how Cassian rejects the Empire's attempts to divide the inmates by pitting them against each other, but part of why he's able to keep at it is his annoying-kid tenacity. I love the scene where Kino brushes him off by saying how many shifts he has left and Cassian immediately responds with, "So...tell me what you know before you go."
It's simply wild to compare the Cassian we see in "Kassa" to the one in "Rix Road." He goes through so much in twelve episodes and really comes into his own, and it's fantastic to see some of the qualities he displays in Rogue One starting to peek through. He's already come so far in his character growth--I cannot wait to see how season 2 gets us from "Rix Road" to Rogue One!
Oh yeah, and Diego Luna is simply stunning. You can really feel how he traced Cassian's life backwards to this point, see how different the Cassian of "Kassa" is from the Cassian of Rogue One and yet still fully believe that this is the same character. All the little hints he drops, all the tiny moments where you can see Rogue One Cassian starting to gestate. It's such beautiful, brilliant work!

- oh god
- i feel like he’s more.. like weirded out instead of mad because he’s seen what you’re capable of
- specially if you’re physically strong too
- like how can you take down an army of FULL GROWN MEN that are TWICE YOUR SIZE without breaking a sweat and the next thing he knows you’re trying to pull a push door
- so when you trip and fall, or miss yet another social cue, or can’t grasp a situation immediately..
- he’s js like “are you serious right now” and stares at you with a deadpan expression before helping you up or explaining
- after a while of being friends, he kinda just got used to the fact that even though you’re basically a genius you’re going to manage to trip on every obstacle in your way
- the longer you guys are friends the less second hand embarrassment exists to him because everyone around him is also used to it 😭😭
- you’re constantly being called idiot/stupid by him

WHAT BRAND OF STUPID ARE YOU?
Smart until infected with stupid
You think you're safe don't you? You are probably the responsible one in the group, perhaps even the mom friend. You are relatively smart but all it takes is one little thing to suck all your braincells out. It could be hanging around your fellow stupid friends, it could be being left alone, it could be having a bit too much fun. The stupid lives inside you and it just takes the right environment for it to show.

One of my favorite differences in the DBZ manga that makes Vegebul make More Sense To Me, is that because Vegeta never left Earth, he was living at Capsule Corp for over two years before Bulma got pregnant (assuming Trunks is like 3-6mos old when we see him as a baby), but she said she 'wouldn't live with that jerk' afterward, which implies (to me) that he'd been a chill enough housemate up until the pregnancy, which tracks with his generally private and professional behavior as a Lord in the Freeza Force (in the manga).
I like to think it became a compounding factor in learning that he was slated to be killed in a year, and led to him being uncharacteristically overzealous and performative (and so opposed to Trunks getting close to him) in the android saga as opposed to how strategic and cautious he was with serious threats in the Freeza saga.
I am also always thinking about how Something Happened between him losing to Cell and re-entering the time chamber in the manga, because he was back living at Capsule Corp and staying near Trunks and Bulma when the Cell Games were announced.
#Something was definitely Bulma not getting laid for over a year and Vegeta not getting laid for over 2 because of time chamber shenanigans#You can just taste the Good Shit in the conversation from that first night back 🤌 Anyway#Every day I think about how Freeza assumed Vegeta was always going to be his biggest threat -- not just for his power but for his cunning#Every day I think about how that can still be true and how after the Freeza arc Toei traded that cunning for boisterous arrogance#even though that was literally only happening in the android saga and not NEARLY as much as they wrote it#Vegeta being Quiet and Smart is ALSO a reason Vegebul makes a lot more sense if you've read the manga#He's probably the only one in that group who never needs her to translate science talk and the bar is low but boy can he can hop over it#Thinking about how he sat there and explained the science of the Great Ape transformation to Goku and WHY he could create a false moon#Thinking about how Vegeta knows what to do how to do it AND can explain to someone WHY it works#and knowing Bulma would hear a bad boy fighter talk Science and throw her underwear at him at terminal velocity#Every day I think about how Vegeta is constantly flirting with the trickster trope but you'd never know that from watching the anime#He's so sMART and Goku's so DUMB that's why they're great FOILS TOEI#Like Goku's not Stupid but he IS dumb he is a dumb puppy and we love him#I see a lot of Geets fans say they miss how he was in the Freeza arc but he's like that A LOT in Super (just on the good guy team)#His breakdown is over he knows who he is again he's confident he's whole he's fucking Out Here in Super PLEASE read the manga

I kept thinking about how Forever would react to seeing Martyn, but I feel we all expect him to react a certain way, so instead my interest shifted to another thing: how would Martyn react to Forever.
You know, Martyn is a lot emotionally smarter than most people Forever has shown any interest in.
Bad, Phil, and Brunim tend to wear a mask about their feelings and show their emotions in weird ways, and Max just doesn't tell you how he feels. Martyn may joke a lot about his own feelings and kind of hides them but never to the extent that the other 4 do, and, more importantly, can see the emotions of others and act accordingly.
Although, most importantly, he is not auto-destructive like them. Bad and Max are super auto-destructive if you are aware of their lore, but Philza and Brunim are quite bad too. Brunim is willing to die if it helps to prove a point and Philza is more of the sacrificial type, which is not great, thank god he is good at surviving otherwise he would have died who knows how many times.
Martyn is more "sure, why not" but can draw a line and say "That's a bit too much". So, of course, he would say "yes" if Forever asked him out, but could tell he was just a replacement just by Forever talking. He would probably think that Phil is the ex, not Brunim, unless Forever straight-up says his name.
But, of course, he is not immune. He recognizes why he actually accepted Forever's idea. He can recognize it on Forever because he may or may not be doing the same but at the end of the day. Forever is Forever. Martyn is Martyn. They cannot be replaced.

Yes THANK YOU!!! Lestat is polar opposite of manipulative. He's too in the moment impulsive to manipulate anything. Okay, fine, he can be a tiny bit manipulative but it's such basic shit. Like orchestrating his first meeting with Louis and their first time. But he basically blows his manipulative wad on that. Next time he tries to manipulate Louis, he ends up in an unwanted open relationship with Louis still refusing to feed on humans. 😂🤣 Armand and Louis are totally projecting on someone who is essentially an evil himbo.
(x)
I don't know if I'd say he's the polar opposite of manipulative, haha, I think he can definitely try to manuever situations in his favour - like cutting off Antoinette's finger to give to Claudia under the guise that he's killed her when he's actually turned her / is about to turn her - but he's definitely too impulsive, volatile and bad at hiding his emotions to really manipulate characters or situations in the way almost every other character in the show is capable of (Armand, Louis and Daniel especially).
Lestat's power is felt in brute force, and that tends to be how he wields it more so than through strategising and manipulation. Like, they're all playing 4D chess with strategies to checkmate each other, and Lestat's just going to knock the board over when he starts to lose, haha.

When you think about it the Arcobaleno are Verde's handlers. A job neither one of them wanted, especially Verde, but someone had to do it.
I mean look at Verde.
If left to his own devices for too long he will create something insane like the anti-trininesette formula. Not even on purpose. He just fucked around and found out. Or at least that's the impression I got from the anime.
To keep things like this from happening at least one Arcobaleno checks in with him daily. In person. If they call he's just going to hide it.
There isn't any real schedule for who visits him when. It's mostly if you're free and in the area do it. It winds up being Lal and Fon most of the time.
Which is for the best. Out of all the Arcobaleno these two are the ones who can keep Verde grounded/stop his experiments from getting out of hand.
You'd think Verde would hate this, and tbh he does, but he also loves it. Not that he'd admit that. It keeps him on his toes and challenges him to think of ways to surprise them. As well as helps him to think of ways to hide things better.
The worst Arcobaleno to watch him is shockingly not Skull, but Mammon. Why? Because Mammon can smell a good business opportunity and Verde has sold his soul for less. If he's able to work on what he wants then he doesn't really care how much he makes from it. Especially if he's too caught up in what he's doing. Hell, he's probably pulling from his own pockets...
So yeah to avoid Verde pulling a box weapons disaster 2.0, Mammon and Verde can NOT be left alone. Ever! Verde is too bad a businessman to be trusted with the esper. And Mammon knows how to scam people too well.
(That said, that does NOT mean I head canon Mammon being behind the bad business decisions that were mentioned as having been made with the box weapons during Future Arc. That's on Koenig, Innocenti, and Verde tbh)

I love people who also think that Jason calling Tim "replacement" is dumb. It's not even an insult. It's so stupid. Give me actual insults and hurting each other (and then give me forgiveness and understanding because that's what I came to the fan work for)
Its so so stupid I don't know why it's so popular it doesn't even sound right when you say it and not insulting at all like Jason you are the second Robin you replaced Dick it's the thing side kicks do - but it's also part of that whole stupid thing were people make it out that Jason was more angry at Tim then he actually was that was stupidly amplified by the idiotic titans tower fight - my favourite thing about utrh is that tims just not mentioned in that story at all it will always be hilarious to me

Hello shiratorizawa friend
I would take myself off anon but I fear I haven't posted enough about shiratorizawa recently and I would bring shame upon my ancestors...
Anyways, I'd like to present you with more ideas, such as: Semi having ADHD, Yamagata with a tooth gap, Shirabu having to tutor Ushijima in science despite the year gap, and Goshiki being insanely popular with first year girls and having no idea
(I have a lot of thoughts about the boys)
Fear not, friend, as I too have abandoned my boys for 3-4 years. The stz family is forgiving <3
Ok but hear me out. Yamagata definitely has ADHD too. He hyperfocuses on volleyball and that's where he gets rid of most of his excess energy. Then there's the corny jokes. The inability to stick to a hobby outside of volleyball. The constantly losing things even after the time skip. Listen. ADHD buddies.
Love the idea of stz study sessions with Shirabu as the leader who's valiantly trying to teach a bunch of idiots how to do science. It's absolute chaos. Semi and Yamagata aren't focusing. Tendou is just messing around. Reon is really really trying but everyone is so loud that he's practically forced to tune in to their conversations. Shirabu keeps snapping at everyone to be quiet, but it's not working. Ushijima is the only one who can actually focus through the noise but he's still not getting anything done because he's waiting for Shirabu who keeps getting distracted by the rest.
AND THEN GOSHIKI MY DEAR. LOVE THAT ONE. 10/10 NO FURTHER COMMENTS

BABY WATCH 2024!
First 24 hours with the new kitten. Thought it was a she, but did a closer inspection earlier and I’m leaning towards a he.
Anyway, the good stuff: he is the sweetest, most well behaved kitten I have ever seen. He’s an angel. He spent most of last night sleeping on my chest. I haven’t had such an actively affectionate cat in ages. The two I have now are sweet, but they don’t really cuddle. This little dude does. This little dude is awesome. He follows me around, doesn’t get into things he’s not supposed to, and instantly knew how to use a litter box. If he wasn’t so young, I’d think he was an abandoned indoor cat. But he’s baby. My baby. Still needs a name, though.
The not so good stuff: I DO NOT need another cat! I live in a small apartment with two other adult cats and a small dog. New cats are also expensive! He’s gonna need shots and to get fixed and, to be painfully honest, I really don’t know if I can afford that now. Shit, I’m basically out of (human) food until I can get some cash on friday. It’s rough. I’m really anxious. I love this little guy. I didn’t just pick a random kitten. I’d seen him outside a couple of times and I just… I hated the idea of this way too trusting little guy trying to survive out in the world. He just kept crying out at me and following me. There are other stray cats around, but this one is so small and so sweet and he followed me home and he loves me so much I literally started crying while holding him bc I didn’t want him to ever have to fight just to survive out there. I hate it. I mean, I love him, but it does make me feel kind of sick inside bc I know it’s not exactly a smart decision to take in a stray right now. Life sucks. He’s curled up next to me in bed now and if he wasn’t so tiny and sweet and wonderful, I might be okay not keeping him & letting him stay outside with his friends. I’m glad he’s not a human baby or I’d really be freaking out right now.
Anyway, I’d die for him now so it’s a done deal. My baby now.
