“My baby’s a king! Oh Ranzie, your father would be so proud of you!”
“Mother! You’re embarrassing me in front of my subjects!”
Tumblr media
Momranza reveal 🕷️ this is my OC Theraphoza, Taranza’s mother. I also drew Taranza wearing his king outfit that I designed for him since he becomes the king of Floralia after the events of Triple Deluxe in my AU. I see Taranza as being a little bit of a mama’s boy/his mom dotes upon and fusses over him a lot since he’s her only child. I could also see Thera acting like a mother to all of Taranza’s friends too, like she’d cook for them and make sure they’re well fed whenever they visit Floralia and she would knit them stuff to keep them warm in the cold.

GirlDad!Jason who supports you all throughout your pregnancy; holding your hair when you get sick, rubbing your sore feet and ankles, holding you through cramps/braxton hicks, buying you everything you craved etc.
GirlDad!Jason who cried for hours after she was born. His little girl, just as beautiful as you, all bundled up in soft blankets. He never believed he could love someone so much, it was like his entire body was burning with love and compassion for this little bean in his arms. For once, the world stopped, just for him.
GirlDad!Jason drives the most carefully he ever has in his life when coming back from the hospital. Despite your incessant giggling about how you've never seen him so scared, he drove like a damn senior citizen. He was carrying the most precious cargo, could you blame him?
GirlDad!Jason who changes diapers, feeds, bathes and plays with your daughter. He never leaves her for more than 5 minutes, and is involved to the point of mild annoyance. You would put your daughter down for 5 seconds and return to her gone, and in his arms. It's the most adorable thing though, you wouldn't trade it for the world.
GirlDad!Jason who can't stand to see your daughter upset. It's a trait he developed when she got to the toddler age, always fussing about everything she can't have and Jason giving in. Every time.
GirlDad!Jason who cries on her first day of kindergarten. Would never admit it though, but he hates seeing her grow up. He dreaded the day she learned how to tie her shoes and zip up her coat independently. It makes him feel like she doesn't need him anymore :(
GirlDad!Jason who will, without fail, play princesses, hair salon, tea party and barbies with his daughter. It doesn't matter if the world needs saving or if Bruce is up his ass, his daughter comes second to nothing. Even if it's to kiss a minor booboo she got while running around the house.
GirlDad!Jason who always brings back little trinkets and toys for his daughter. Her bedroom will be cluttered with stuffed animals and shiny things that caught his eye or reminded him of her. She would anticipate his key in the door which meant daddy brought home something for her. No matter how old she gets, he won't stop.
GirlDad!Jason who absolutely fucks up bullies. Be it in kindergarten or in college, Jason will make sure she and her friends are never bothered again. I cannot disclose his methods for legal reasons.
GirlDad!Jason who doesn't freak out about periods. He's so loving and supportive and doesn't ever make her feel ashamed about it. He'll bring her tea, hot chocolate, hot water bottles, painkillers, heating pads and rub her back if she's in a lot of pain. He'll take the day off to stay with her, and never force her to go to school on those days.
GirlDad!Jason who absolutely spoils his daughter shamelessly. Mom said no more sweets? Well dad sure isn't going to place a bag of candy under her pillow the next day. She wants a car for her 16th birthday? His baby gets a pink Porsche with a bow on top. She's obsessed with X artist? All the merch in the world miraculously ends up in her room.
GirlDad!Jason who will tower menacingly over her first partner. It doesn't matter how much you or your daughter like them, Jason's imagining a thousand ways to hide their dismembered body.
GirlDad!Jason who needs to be talked down from killing said partner when he finds his daughter balled up in a crying mess on her bed when they break up. Nobody makes his precious girl sad. He'll definitely egg their house without your knowledge. He buys her everything she could ever ask for to make her feel better, no matter how stupidly expensive.
GirlDad!Jason who's always up to a conversation. No matter how embarrassing or personal, he'll listen and give honest advice. Because he's so open, your daughter almost never hides anything from him.
GirlDad!Jason who bawls after dropping her off at university. Again, would never admit it, but sleeps on the floor of her bedroom for the first month she's away. He can't help but miss his little (adult) girl. He also flips through pictures and videos on his phone of when your daughter was little and sheds a few tears. Honestly it only makes you love him more.
GirlDad!Jason who still doesn't like your daughter's college partner. He's better this time around, but still. Don't put murder past him. Yet.
GirlDad!Jason who cries when your daughter shows him her shiny new engagement ring. He's so excited yet terrified. His baby girl is all grown up now.
GirlDad!Jason who walks your daughter down the isle with the brightest smile on his face. He slowly comes around to liking her fiancé(é) and honestly wishes them well.
GirlDad!Jason who meets your daughter at the hospital, ready to meet his new granddaughter for the first time. He holds her in his arms, just like he did his daughter, and gleams knowing the cycle is repeating itself. He couldn't be more excited.

Death By A Thousand Cuts
pairing: lando norris x fretwell! reader
summary: y/n y/ln has always been in love with lando, or in which lando brushed y/n off until its too late
warning: angsty tbh, attempted sa, roofie, swearing
a/n: i like this one tbh, also this takes places over a couple years tbh
Tumblr media
Y/n wasn't entirely sure when it happened, whether it was love at first sight or something more gradual, all she knew was she was entirely and irrevocably in love with Lando Norris.
Y/n first met Lando when she was 10 and he was 11. To him she was his best mates little sister. He found her childish and annoying. She found him kind and attractive, although she barely saw him because he was always off karting.
The moment that solidified her crush on the boy was when their families went on their first family vacation together. They had booked a holiday house at the beach for a week during summer. Both families had made there way done the beach.
Max and Lando were playing catch on the beach, chatting about random things, there parents were busy gossiping and sunbaking and Flo and Y/n were swimming in the ocean.
"Y/n sweetie, don't swim out too far please." Her mother called out to her and she nodded back.
"I'm gonna give this to my mom so I don't lose it." Flo said, gesturing to the bracelet her grandmother had given her for her birthday. Y/n nodded in response and watched as Flo ran back ashore, heading over to her mom.
Y/n watched everyone, feeling peaceful. Lando was currently watching Max strike out with a girl who was definitely to old for him and Flo was talking to their parents.
Suddenly she was dragged underwater, getting completely disoriented. Her lungs screamed for air, a burning sensation spreading through her chest. She tried to swim to the top, splashing above the water for a split second before being pulled back down.
Her legs were powerless no matter how hard she tried to kick. Her vision was spotty, she struggled to fight off the black spots dancing in her vision when she felt herself being pulled up above the water and dragged onto the beach.
She fell to her hands and knees and began coughing up salt water, someone holding her hair behind her head. She looked up to see Lando looking down at her worried and annoyed.
"Are you crazy? He asked the girl. Before she could answer her parents came over to her wrapping her around in a towel and fussing over her. She felt the blood rush to her cheeks at how she had embarrassed herself but also at the fact that Lando had come to save her.
Y/n looked at the diy grave she had made. Her pet hamster had died and she was holding a full funeral. The Norris' had come aswell, paying there respects.
"I'm sorry about fluffy Y/n." Lando said, moving to stand next to her. She looked up sending him a small, sad smile and he held out a bouquet of flowers for her. They were scrappy, definitely picked from his moms garden which he would get in trouble for later but the thought counted. She gave him large smile and took them from him before wrapping her arms around him.
"Thanks Lan." She said.
"Its alright to cry you know, you don't have to be strong." He said, whispering into the top of her head before planting a kiss on it.
She began crying into the boys chest and he let her until she felt better.
By the time she was 14 Y/n felt so out of place in their little group. Flo, Max and Lando had all become quite close due to their closeness in age and interests. She didn't feel out of place in the social sense, it was more out of place in life. The boys had karting, Flo had riding but what exactly did Y/n have. She had no clue what she wanted to be, a doctor? A journalist? Something in fashion? She just had no clue.
She felt a nudge in her side and turned to look at Lando whos eyes were trained to the TV. He looked at her, "Are you okay?" He whispered to her. She nodded. "Y/n, tell me the truth." She sighed, Lando could always see straight through her.
"No. Yes. I don't know. Its just, I feel so out of place, all of you guys know what you wanna do and I - I just don't know." Lando snorted and Y/ns eyes shot to him.
"What? What's wrong?" She asked, suddenly feeling very self conscious. Lando felt bad seeing the panicked look on her face.
"Sorry, Its just you shouldn't be worried over something like that. Whatever you end up doing is going to be amazing just like you, don't stress Y/n." He said, sincerity in his tone.
She smiled, thankful that he couldn't see how red her face had gotten and turned to face the tv.
Once she had turned 15 two things were pretty obvious. Y/n was head over heels in love with Lando Norris and Lando wasn't interested, shutting her affections down a million times with the excuse of her being Max's little sister.

Y/n found herself drunkenly dancing with Y/bsf, the girls opting to go to a party instead of staying in. She started dancing with the random guy when she felt herself get pulled away. "Hey." She stuttered out, not coping well with how much she had already had to drink.
"What the fuck are you doing here Y/n."
Lando.
Still, she defiantly crossed her arms, glaring at him. "I'm having fun, what are you the fun police."
Lando faltered at the attitude he got, before glaring at her. "Your too young to be drinking, and your definitely too young to be at Thomas Bakers party." She just rolled her eyes, "I'm sixteen, not a baby anymore."
"Yes you are."
"No I'm not." She said again.
"You sure are acting like one right now, now come on." He said grabbing at her wrist but she refused to move. "Where are we going." She asked him, not wanting to move.
"Home, Max is literally going to kill me." Lando responded, trying to grab at the girl but she refused to budge.
"Y/n."
"Lando." She said back to him, "You know I'm not going to move." She stated, Lando raising his eyebrows at this, as if it were a challenge.
"Really?" Lando asked, challenging her right back, she faltered for a second before nodding firmly. He smirked a little, before grabbing at her waist and tossing her over his shoulder.
"Lando? What the fuck! Put me down." She said, people at the party watching but being to drunk to properly care.
"Nope, your going home Y/n." The girl sighed defeatedly, letting it happen. Lando walked over to his car, putting the girl down and helping her into his front seat.
He hopped in and began to drive back to her house. Y/n looked at the window, resting her head against the glass. Once they got home, Y/n saw a familiar figure standing on the front porch. "Really? You had to call Max?"
"Goodnight Y/n." He said, she rolled her eyes, about to exit the car before she decided to plant a cheeky kiss on his cheek before hopping out of the car.
"Y/n get inside now." Max said sternly.
"But I-"
"Inside." He raised his voice, not shouting but Y/n could tell he was mad. She went inside and watched from her bedroom window as Max and Lando talked about something before Lando drove off. She sighed and fell back on her bed, just wanting the day to be over.

"Maxiieee." Y/n stumbled out of the kitchen onto the back porch looking around for her older brother. They host was a mutual friend of theirs which is why they had both been invited. The girl was about the fall down the porch steps when an arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her back firmly onto the porch.
"Woah, be careful there little Max." She heard that familiar voice say. She turned around to face him still slightly dazed and confused, a pout on her lips when his words registered in her head. "Landoo." She drunkenly whined, "I told you to stop calling me that, 'm no little. "
The boy laughed, smiling down at her "Yes you are little max," he teased, smiling before noticing the faint tear tracks on her face. Landos body language changed, worry seeping into his gaze. "Y/n whats wrong?" He asked, brushing her hair out of her face so he could see her more clearly.
"Tom." She said shakily, ready to burst into tears. Lando tensed at the mention of the girls boyfriend , a million different things running through his mind, if she was hurt, if he had hurt her. Lando began checking her up and down, making sure she wasn't injured, once he was certain that she was alright he looked back at her.
"What did he do love?" The nickname slipped out, Lando hadn't meant to say it, it just felt so natural. Luckily for him, she didn't catch onto what he said, her brain to scattered to pick up on it.
"He cheated on me. I walked in on him and some chick." She wailed out, throwing herself into Landos arms, a gesture that Lando was not against. Lando wrapped his arms around her waist, rubbing small circles on her back.
"Oh dove, its gonna be okay." Lando rested his head on her hers, squeezing her tightly before pulling away. "I'm gonna take you to the car, can you wait there for me and Max to come out." He spoke softly, waiting for a nod before heading towards the car. Once he walked her to the car he instructed her to wait there while he went back inside to look for Max.
Max came out of the party, far less drunk than the other two and immediately went to his sister, forcing her to look up at him. "Are you okay." He asked her, Y/n just nodded and quietly mumbled something about wanting to go home.
On the car ride back, with Max driving, Lando opted to sit in the back seat next to Y/n who nearly fell asleep on his shoulder. The drive back was silent, no one feeling up to making conversation. When the car stopped Lando looked down at the girl sleeping on his shoulder, "Feeling better?" He croaked out, Y/n turned to look up at him. She paused for a second, absorbing the moment when she felt bile rise up her throat. She paused, trying to undo her seatbelt, before opening the doer landing on the grass, puking. "Ah shit moms gonna kill me." Max groaned while a pair of hands grabbed her hair in a makeshift pony tail, rubbing her back. "Lets get you inside." Lando said, helping the girl up.
When they got to her room, Lando grabbed her a change of clothes passing them to her. "Put these on, I'll be right back."
Lando came back up the stairs, opening the door to Y/ns room. "Look I need you to - oh shit." Lando said, closing his eyes tightly. The drunk girl turned around to look at him, clad in her bra and underwear. "Landoo, can you please help mee get these offf." She said, still clearly drunk. Lando swallowed hard, cursing whatever God was out there. "You can't get it off yourself." The girl shook her head.
He swallowed, putting the things in his hands down before moving the girl towards him. He ran his fingers up her back, definitely slower than he should have, goosebumps forming on her back at the touch. He reached her bra and unbuttoned it slowly, eyes looking at all of her bare skin. He shook his head spinning around. "Now put you shirt on." She did without a fuss.
He then took her to the bathroom, stating that she would regret not taking it off in the morning and while that was true, he really just wanted more time to hang around the girl.
He grabbed a cotton pad and makeup cleaner, instructing her to sit on the bench as he walked between her legs. He gently wiped her makeup off, Y/n looking up at him, admiring his features. "Your pretty you know that." She mumbled, not entirely meaning to say it out loud.
"Oh am I." Lando said teasingly, a grin making its way across his face. "Mhm." She nodded, Lando wiped the last bit of mascara off before looking down into her eyes. The pair stayed their, Y/n could have sworn he leaned in slightly but the jingle of the front door was heard, Max having returned from dropping his girlfriend off. Lando pulled away quickly, throwing the cotton pad in the bin. "Done." He mumbled, ready to walk out the room and never return.
Y/n followed him out of her conjoining bathroom into her room. "Goodnight Y/n." He said, making his way to her bedroom door as she climbed into bed. "Goodnight Lan." She said, the duvet pulled up to her chin at this point. Lando paused at the door to looked at her, "And Y/n?" She hummed in response, "Next time pick someone who isn't a complete dick okay." He continued before closing his door gently.
Y/n felt her hear shatter all over again, it was just a reminder that no matter how much she wanted to, Y/n and Lando were never going to be together.
The next day when Y/n went to pick up her stuff from Toms she noticed a huge black eye but Tom refused to tell her how it got there.

Y/n sat watching the fire. Her family and Landos were having a bonfire and celebrating Y/ns seventeenth and Lando who was doing really well in his Formula 3 season.
She felt the bench she was sitting on dip and looked to see Lando sitting next to her. "So the big seventeen huh?"
Y/n sent him a warm smile, "Yeah actually, its funny though cause I don't feel older even though I am." She said.
"That's what happens, any big plans for the future." He asked her, staring at the fire. Y/n glanced at him confused for a bit, Lando never really was willing to have proper conversations with her if he could escape it.
"Um yeah actually. I signed a campaign with Louis Vuitton so next month I'm flying out to Paris." She said excitedly, a fond smile crossed Landos face.
"Thats great Y/n, I'm really happy for you." He said, giving her a small nudge which she giggled at.
"How are you holding up Lan." He rolled his eyes slightly at the nickname, it had been something that she had never stopped calling him, despite his protests against him.
"Um alright, everything is going so well at the moment, but I'm kinda scared I guess, like I'm worried its all gonna go wrong and I'm gonna fuck everything up." He said, slightly shaky, Y/n turned to look at him and that was the first time she truly saw him, she could see how broken and scared he was. She smiled.
"The last thing your gonna do is fuck this up Lando, this is your dream, this is what your good at. I know you well enough to know that your not gonna fuck it up." She said, seriously and wholeheartedly which mad Lando believe her.
It was silent for a moment and then Lando spoke up, "Thank you."
"Always Lan."

It had been nearly a year since Y/n had last seen Lando, things had gotten busy with her modeling. The families had decided to go on a beach vacation together, forcing Y/n and Lando to spend the next two weeks together.
Flo had decided that the four of them should go clubbing together, a group catch up or something like that. After not seeing her brother and one of her best friends for so long it was necessary.
"Drink up Y/n." Flo said, passing a shot to her. Y/n downed the shot quickly scrunching her nose slightly.
"Slow down there sis." Max said whilst Lando bit back a grin, snorting slightly.
A while later Max had left the booth to go dance with his girlfriend whilst Flo had wondered off to get more shots. "Hey Lan." Y/n said giggling drunkly, Lando smiled back at her.
"You might wanna slow down on the drinks there Little max." Lando said, acting nonchalant but eyeing the drink in her hand.
"Oh come off it Lan, were here to have fun." She said raising her eyebrows slightly before downing the whole drink in front of him, acting as if it were a competition.
His face changed, into awe and an expression that she couldn't quite place. She smiled slightly before getting more serious, "Lan I-"
"Oh my god Lando?" They both turned to face the girl standing on the outside of the booth, Lando scooting away from her as if he had been burned.
"Alyssa what are you doing here?" Lando asked, shock taking over his face. Alyssa. Y/n felt the bile come up her throat, the burning hot jealousy. The pair started talking but she tuned out what they were saying until Lando turned to face her. She quickly fixed her expression into a smile when he faced her.
"Do you mind if I?" He paused, she shook her head. "No go ahead." She said, moving to leave the booth.
"Y/n you don't have to leave." She smiled, falsely and it was something Lando saw right through.
"Its fine really I just need to go to the toilet." She said, moving to leave again.
"Y/n, wait what were you going to ask me?" He asked her, she smiled at him, heart fluttering at the fact he was paying attention.
"Oh um- just if you wanted another drink." She said, lying through her teeth.
"I'm alright thanks." He said before turning to face Alyssa. Y/n headed straight to the bar, her plan to go to the toilets long forgotten.
"Two shots please." She asked, leaning against the bar.
"Rough night?" Y/n turned to look at a man standing next to her, he wasn't ugly in any sense, but definitely wasn't her type, he wasn't Lando.
She just smiled, muttering something under her breathe before turning back to the counter praying for the bar tender to hurry up.
"What's your name gorgeous." The guy asked, stepping closer, obviously not being very happy with the way he was being ignored. Before she could answer the bar tender came back and she quickly downed the two shots.
"Can I buy you a drink?" The guy asked, clearly annoyed at this point from the lack of response. She turned to him, about to tell him to fuck off when her eyes locked on something, Lando and the blonde. He was smiling at her, looking at her in a way Y/n could only dream of being looked at. She turned back around to face the man, unaware of the eyes that had clocked her and the guy. "Sure." She said with a forced smile and a shaky voice.
Once she had gotten a drink from the bar tender she moved with the guy onto the dance floor. As she danced Y/n noticed a pair of eyes staring daggers at the guy behind him, Lando. She decided to test the waters a little, grinding up against him. Her eyes clocked the way Landos grip tightened around his glass, knuckles going white. She smiled a little and drank the last of her drink. As she took a sip she noticed that she had begun to feel hazy, out of place.
She pulled away from the guy, "I'm gonna go to the bathroom." She slurred out, shaking the black spots from her vision.
She stumbled into the corridor when she felt someone's hand grab her and pin her against the wall. "What are you doing? Stop." She got out, trying to fight the urge to slip unconscious.
"Don't act like you didn't want it slut. The way you were acting, Grinding against me." Her wrapped his hand around her throat and placed sloppy, drunken kissed down it.
"Stop get off me." She said, to weak to push him off. He didn't.
She kept muttering at him to get off when someone ripped him off of her. She sunk to the floor, trying to pick up on her surrounds.
"Lando get off him you've already done enough damage." She heard someone say. Lando. Her eyes locked in on the head of curly brunette hair, punching the guy over and over again, rage present on his face.
"Lando." She called out to him, he stopped instantly throwing the guy down. Two hands came to cup her cheeks. "Y/n hey. Can you hear me." He asked her softly to which she nodded.
"Were going home alright, woah hey stake awake for me love." He said, grabbing onto her as she fought off the spots.
"Your okay." He muttered, more to reassure himself than her.
"Flo hey." Lando said, grabbing onto his sister who was dancing. The girl spun around, face dropping at the barely conscious girl Lando was gripping onto like a lifeline. "I need you to find Max now okay? I'm bringing her to the car."
She nodded and walked off, "I'm just gonna have one word with the bar tender okay? Then we can go home."
He walked over to the bar, "Hey were you the prick who served her." Lando asked one of the bar tenders who spun around to face her.
"I uh-"
"I suggest you keep a better eye out, my girlfriend got drugged because of you." Lando spat out, anger filling him. The bar tender nodded shakily, unsure of what else to do. Lando exchange a couple more heated words before heading over to the car.
His phone rung in his back pocket. "Hey Flo whats up?"
"I can't find Max, do you just wanna take Y/n back to the hotel and we can uber back." Flo said, worried for her friend.
"Okay sure." Lando said before chucking the phone in the back seat. Once he was sure that Y/n had gotten in the car safely he started driving back to the Hotel and Y/n blacked out.
"Y/n" Lando asked softly. "Y/n." He called out more loudly this time, no response. Shit, he muttered to himself, changing the route he was headed.
After sending a quick text to Flo, he sped up taking her to the hospital. When he carried her to the hospital a nurse immediately came over. "My girlfriend was drugged." Was all he could seem to say.
Y/n woke up to a beeping sound, the light was very bright when she opened her eyes. The nurse turned around to look at the girl, "Oh great your up, your boyfriend was very worried about you."
Y/n furrowed her eyebrows in confusion now picking up on the sleeping boy beside her. Once she had finished talking with the nurse she turned to look at the boy beside her.
"Lando." She said nudging him with no response. "Lan." She called out more and the boy shot up awake confused, he quickly got out of his daze when he saw the girl who was staring back at him.
"Y/n." He said, standing up and cupping her face. He stayed there for a moment, but then realised what was happening, where he was and stepped back awkwardly.
"Where's Flo and Max?" Y/n asked, trying to break the awkward tension.
"Oh, um back at the hotel, they needed to sober up and everything." Lando said.
"Oh right. And you stayed because?"
"I wanted to." He said quickly, much to his embarrassment.
"Right." She said, nodding slowly, causing a flush to run through his body.
"How are you?" He asked, clearing his throat, worry taking over his face.
"I'm fine." She said, brushing him off.
"Do you want to-"
"No Lando I'm fine." She said more sternly, causing an awkward tension to rise up in the room. After a moment she spoke up again, wanting to keep a lighthearted conversation with him since they barely talked.
"So girlfriend hey?"
"Fuck off."

Y/n could hear the click of cameras following her as she headed towards the Mclaren garage. She had come to the Bahrain Grand Prix after missing Landos first due to scheduling conflicts.
"Y/n, its good to see you here." She heard a voice say and turned around to see her brother.
"Maxie." She screamed excitedly, jumping to wrap her arms around him, making him stumble back slightly.
"Easy there, how are you dove?" He asked his sister, pulling back to take her in.
"Pretty good, just exhausted." She said, rotating herself so could lean back against him and watch the track.
"Does Lando know your here?" He asked his sister, noting the familiar hue that still spread across her cheeks at the mention of the boy.
"No, I thought I'd surprise him." She responded, taking in the surroundings. Everything was so much bigger, a vast contrast to what she was used to watching Lando race at. She smiled slightly thinking about how far he had come.
"Hes gonna be really happy to see you, I'm really happy too see you." Y/n smiled up at her brother before looking at her watch.
"I'm gonna go surprise him now before things get to hectic." She said, patting her brothers arm before the siblings split off.
Y/ns eyes went everywhere, taking in her surroundings as she walked into the McLaren garage, eyes finding Lando instantly who was staring at something on his phone. She walked over to him, covering his eyes as she reached him.
"Guess who?" She whispered in the boys ear and he spun around immediately to face her.
"Y/n." He said excitedly, a huge smile spreading across his face as he took her in. Once he felt like he had fully looked over at her to make sure she was really there he pulled her into a tight huge. "What are you doing here?"
"Mf, thought I'd surprise you," She said her voice muffled in his chest, "I'm sorry I missed your first race."
Lando shook his head, "I don't care, as long as your hear now." He said, placing a small kiss on her head.
"Let the girl breathe Lando." Y/n heard someone with a thick accent say and the pair both turned to face Lando teammate, Carlos Sainz. "Carlos, pleasure to meet you." He said, sticking out his hand.
"Y/n." She said, shaking his hand, Landos arm draped protectively around her shoulders. A flicker of recognition crossed Carlos' face.
"Ah, So your the famous Y/n I've hear so much about."
"That would be me, all good things I hope." She said smiling.
"I don't think he could ever say bad things." Carlos said, giving Lando a pointed look. A confused look crossed her face for a second before she went back to smiling.
As she went to say something else someone called the two boys over. Carlos left but Lando lingered for a bit, "Stay here, please, I want to know you'll be here when I finish." He asked her, nearly begging.
"Of course." She said softly, up at him. A smile took over Landos face as he looked at her, quickly placing a kiss on his cheek and a quick goodbye as he was called for the fourteenth time.
"Y/n right?" She spun around to see a pretty girl looking at her, missing the way Carlos nudged Lando before whispering something to him.
"Yeah I am." The girl said blushing.
"I'm Isa, Carlos' girlfriend. Come sit, we can watch the race together."
The two girls sat together, watching the race and chatting although Y/n spent half the time forcing down her nerves. She watched in anticipation as the race came to a close, celebrating when Lando got sixth, his first points in Formula 1.
After everything came to a close, Lando came over to Y/n, wrapping her in a tight hug. She hugged him back tightly, disregarding how sweaty the boy was.
"I'm so so proud of you Lan, you did such a good job today." She said beaming from ear to ear, pulling back to look at him.
"Nothing without my good luck charm here." He said, making a rosy blush make its way across his cheeks.

Y/n and Lily walked towards the bar when she felt an arm wrap around her wrist, pulling her to the.
"What the - Carlos?" She asked, confusion and shock present on her face. "What are you doing."
"Your over Lando aren't you?" Carlos asked her making the girl stop and stutter.
"I- How did you- why?" The girl started and stopped, not sure what to say.
"Come with me, we should go find Isa or-" Carlos said, pulling her away from Lily.
"Carlos what's going on." She asked confused, turning around to look back at the Lily, and thats when she saw them.
A gorgeous brunette had her arm wrapped around Landos. She was slim, tall and had a gorgeous smile and made Y/n want to hide in a corner and cry. Its not like Y/n was jealous, she knew she was gorgeous, she was a model after all but this girl ha d something Y/n didn't, Lando. And he seemed infatuated with her.
Lando couldn't take his eyes off her, he was beaming. Y/n watched as the girl grabbed onto his arm, playfully swatting at his chest. Y/n felt like she had been stabbed over and over and Lando was just watching as she slowly bled out. "Oh."
"I'm so sorry, I knew he was talking to someone but I never thought it was serious enough for him to bring her to a race." Carlos said, pity laced in his voice. Y/n shook it off. "No, its fine, I'm fine. I guess I just didn't really think." She said.
She turned around and headed off in a random direction, Lily following behind her. It was at that moment Lando looked up, eyes finding the head of hair that was making its way further and further away and Carlos looking at him disappointedly before shaking his head and following after the two girls.
Lily was rubbing a comforting hand on her back when Carlos caught up with them. "Y/n." He said softly before engulfing her in a hug. She finally broke down, all those years of built up hurt and frustration caused by Lando was all let out.
"I just don't understand why he can't love me, whats wrong with me?" She sobbed, Carlos hugged her tighter.
"Nothing is wrong with you, Nothing Y/n. He's the one with the problem." Lily said so her. Carlos knew that when he had the chance he was going to rip into Lando.
"Why can't I just be happy?"
It had made one thing crystal clear, something that Lando had seemed to be repeating to her for years, he didn't want her. It was time to move on.
Landos first podium felt bittersweet, she gave him a small half hearted hug, but it had become obvious that it was over. This was the last moment for a long while that Y/n knew she would share with Lando, she needed space.
On her way out she accidently walked into to something, someone.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry."
"No its completely my fault, I should have been paying more attention." Someone said to her. She looked up to see a rather attractive man. She recognised him from around the track but they had never spoken before. "I'll buy you a new coffee." He said again.
"You don't have to but if your offering a doughnut with that I might just have to accept." She said to him.
"Of course, wouldn't want you to miss out on a free doughnut now would I." He said, matching her tone.
She smiled up at him, "Y/n Y/ln by the way." She said, sticking out her hand to him.
"I know - I mean nice to meet you, George Russell." The boy stuttered out, blushing slightly.

------------------------------------
It was the first time Y/n had been to a Grand Prix since Austrias Grand Prix the year before. Monaco was a big deal in the Formula 1 world and she knew it, the glamour, the elegance, it was one of her favourite races for a reason.
The day also marked the first race that she would go to since she started dating George. The pair had decided to keep their relationship lowkey and away from the public eye until they figured out how they wanted to function as a couple.
After meeting at the Austrian Grand Prix, Y/n and George had become good friends. Y/n trying to give herself sometime before jumping straight into a relationship. George was patient, he knew that there was history between Lando and Y/n but didn't push it. He took her out on picnic dates, would make dinner for her and was overall a loving a respectful boyfriend, never pushing her boundaries, he had been the perfect candidate for Y/n to move on.
The pair had gone long distance for a while because of busy schedules, but Y/n had made an effort to come to the first Grand Prix back.
Y/n had organised to meet at the Paddock Club with Lily and begun to make her way over when she bumped into someone.
"Oh my god I'm so sorry." She said, bending down to pick her stuff up. The person helped her and she felt a spark touching his hand as they both went to pick something up. "Lando." She said in recognition.
The boy tilted his head as he looked at the girl, "Y/n? What are you doing here?" He asked confusion laced in his tone. It didn't make sense, Max wasn't there and she only ever went if Max went.
"I came here to watch the race." She said curtly, shooting a small smile, the tone in her voice sounding as though she was saying 'duh.' She began to walk away from him. Lando chased after her confused, grabbing at her arm to make her stop walking and face him.
"Yeah but like why, you never come if Max isn't, you don't like being in the garage alone." She rolled her eyes. Lando felt his heart clench in his chest, why was she acting like this.
"Have you stopped to think maybe I won't be alone, maybe I'm not here for you Lando." She said and Lando felt as if Y/n had personally stabbed him herself. He had never experienced this side before.
Y/n forced herself to look at his face, trying to distract herself from how hot he looked, and how hurt he looked. Lando opened his mouth to say something but a voice called over from the side.
"Y/n." They both turned to see George. He came over and planted a kiss on her cheek, wrapping an arm around her wait. Lando tensed up immediately. "Hey baby." She said, leaning into him slightly, although she felt very tense.
"Lando." George said, nodding towards the man. Lando ignored him, eyes focused on the arm wrapped around her waist, heart hammering in his chest and blood pumping in his ears. When he noticed the look that Y/n had given him he responded to George, venom laced in his tone. George didn't notice but he did sense the awkward tension.
"So you guys are-"
"Dating, its pretty new though." Y/n cut him off, wrapping her hand around Georges which was sitting on her waist. "We very happy."
Lando could pick up on her tone, one telling him to leave them alone. He excused himself, coming up with some bullshit reason to get away. Once he had gotten far enough away Lando turned to watch Y/n and George, she hugged him tightly and placed a kiss to his cheek before walking off.
Lando felt sick. That should be him. He hated George. He hated himself. He didn't understand why he was feeling like this, maybe he always had. He just knew if he cared for Y/n the way he claimed, his heart wouldn't be hurting so much to see her and George together.
Carlos watched the whole interaction painfully. Lando had been in love with her for a while now and Carlos knew it, but Lando had never admitted it. From day one Lando talked about Y/n. How she was caring, kind, one of Landos best friend. He liked her in a platonic way he argued, he just admired how she would always stop to pat random pets, would bring him food after each race, could tell when he was upset. He even admired the way she would bite off the heads of gummy snakes so they wouldn't feel the pain. After Lando had spotted her at the last grand prix he broke it off with his girlfriend. He had argued that it had nothing to do with her he just didn't feel the same way about his girlfriend anymore.
Lando should be relieved that Y/n had moved on, its what he wanted for years. So why did he feel so uneasy about the whole situation?

Y/n wasn't a hundred percent sure how she had ended up there. It was Christmas time and she had brought George home with her. Her family and Landos were doing there annual Christmas celebration and somehow Lando and George both had to be there.
Lando was unable to keep his eyes off of her the whole night, it was getting creepy and he knew it. Max had also noticed Landos borderline creepy staring. Lando had been rotating between pouting like a toddler and not subtle staring through the whole night and Max was sick of it.
"Come grab a beer with me." Max said standing up off the couch.
"What-" Lando started but Max forcibly grabbed him up, pulling him into the kitchen.
"You need to stop Lando, I'm sick of it. You either like my sister or you don't. She's happy and I don't want you ruining it." Max said in a threatening tone.
"What are you - How?" Lando stuttered.
"Its obvious." Max sighed, "Just answer me this and I'll be on your side."
"What is it?"
"Do you love her?" Before Lando could answer Max's question the girl in question walked in. Lando felt his heart jump, she looked gorgeous as ever.
"Interrupting boy time?" She asked teasingly, moving past them to pour herself a champagne.
"No, just grabbing a beer." Max said uncomfortably.
She nodded, "I see how it is." She said, heading back into the living room.
Lando turned back to face Max once she left, not giving Max a chance to speak before speaking up, "I'm so in love with her it hurts me. I need her more than the air I breathe, I need her more than the moon needs the sun. She's everything."
Max nodded, engulfing Lando in a tight hug, the boy bursting into tears. He wasn't a hundred percent sure why, but he was.
Y/n was frozen in her place in the door frame, there it was, the words she wanted to hear her whole life. It wasn't fucking fair. She left with George pretty soon after, making some excuse about not feeling well when really she couldn't be in the same vicinity as Lando.
She was done, she had decided. She was fucking done with Lando Norris.

user4 LANDOS IN SINGAPORE ASWELL
-------------------------------
Y/n had lost track of how many drinks she'd had at this point. She was in Singapore for a modelling event, conveniently Lando was in Singapore for the Singapore Grand Prix.
She had convinced the other girls to go drinking with her, needing to get Lando out of her mind. She was spiraling and she knew it. Ever since Landos confession the year prior she had completely gone out of control. Her and George had a messy break up, not for the lack of trying from George to make things work out. He had finally called it quits when she cheated on him during one of her many drunken escapades.
He wasn't certain but George was pretty sure her completely 180 had something to do with Lando, after that Christmas she had started acting weird. After her breakup with George Y/n completely lost it, going out every night, a million different hookups, everyone close to her knew she was out of control.
They wanted to help but they didn't know how. She didn't listen no matter how much they tried to shut it down. They all just wanted her to get better, to feel better. This lead them to hear, at a random club in Singapore. With much reluctance she finally convinced her friends to go out with her.
Y/n swung her hips to the beat, leaning against some random guy. He was her prey for the night she had decided. She turned around to face him. "I'll be right back." She whispered in his ear, heading over to the bar, aware of his stare on her ass as she walked away.
"Another shot." She said the bartender when someone slide next to her.
"Can I get a whiskey please." A familiar gravely voice asked. It couldn't be. The girl turned to look at the guy standing next to her. Lando.
The boy felt someone's gaze on him and shot a glance to the side before double backing. "Y/n." He whispered her name out like a prayer, like something had saved him.
"Norris." She sent him a tight lipped smile. Lando could hear his heart shatter, the indifference was killing him.
"What are you doing hear." He asked her.
"Just a modelling gig. Thank you." She said to the bar tender before taking the shot, making Landos eyebrows raise in surprise. "Look I have to go but it was great seeing you."
Somehow Lando could tell that it was insensire.
Y/n had felt Landos eyes on her all night, she basked in it but also hated in. It was so conflicting. She had bumped into Carlos one her way back to the dancefloor and they had talked for a little while.
The dudes hands started to explore her body, running up her chest to cup at her boobs. She embraced the feeling, imagining it was Lando instead. The guy began to kiss down her neck and she lifted her hand to grab at his hair when all of a sudden he was pulled away.
"What the fuck." She turned around to see Lando holding the guy and yelling in his face. "Lando what are you doing." He ignored her. The dude pushed Lando off him.
"Fuck this shit, this pussy isn't worth it." The dude said, Lando went to chase after him but she held him back.
"What is your problem Norris." She yelled at him in his face, not caring who was watching.
"What's my problem? Whats your problem Y/n. And can you stop with the Norris, what happened to Lan or even Lando? When did you start hating me." He said, emotion thick in his voice.
"Hate you? I don't hate you I just really fucking sick of being treated like shit. I loved you Lando, and you just lead me on for years. I got sick of it, of you never doing anything." She screamed at him, Lando deflated slightly.
"Loved?" He asked her. She rolled her eyes, stepping away from him.
"I'm done listening to this bullshit." She said, walking off, he pulled her back to him.
"You still love me. I know you do." He said, taking step closer.
"No I don't, I don't want you anymore Lando." She said, her resolve crumbling.
"If you didn't you wouldn't have been dancing with some other guy, trying to make me jealous." He said, pausing slightly. "Tell me, were you imaging my hands instead of his, wishing it was me." He whispered, Y/n felt a flush break over her because it was true, she felt like she had been caught red handed.
"Come on, baby, you miss me, I know you do." He said, pulling her chin up lips closing in on hers.
Y/n was in a daze, breathing in the familiar smell of his cologne after so long without him. All of a sudden she felt herself get pulled out of the trance she was in. She pushed him off, Landos gaze filtered in confusion.
"You know what I'm so done with you. Of course you want me now, I'm trying to get over you Lando, I need to get over you." She said, her voice breaking a little. He wanted to grab her, hold her, apologise.
"What if I don't want you to." He said.
She completely stepped back, tears in her eyes.
"Fuck you Lando Norris."

Sweetest | Daryl Dixon x Fem!Reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Wounded and benched from runs for the week, Daryl was asked to watch the kids in the prison while you and some of the others worked on repairing a breach in one of the fences. One of the kids asked Daryl how he met you, his wife, and it made for a rather sweet tale.
Genre: Fluff.
Era: Prison, pre season 4.
Part of the Shopping Spree, Hangout Dreams AU.
Warnings: None.
Word count: 1.6k.
A/n: This turned out worse than I hoped, better than I expected. I don't really know how to explain it, but I hope you like this! (Thank you @ddamm and @dixondystopia for giving me your favourite moments from the entire series to add to this! They were pretty much the same, so great minds truly do think alike, as they say.)
Tumblr media
“Mr Dixon?”
At the sound of his name being called, Daryl looked up from his baby girl and locked eyes with a little girl—Mika, he believed her name was—who was staring at him with a big smile. “Yeah?” he replied, slightly bouncing his knee when Hazel began fussing a little.
Mika giggled slightly, sharing a look with her sister, Lizzie, before turning back to the archer. “Mrs Dixon is your wife, right?” she inquired, bouncing slightly on her feet.
Daryl's lips involuntarily twitched up at the mere mention of you. He nodded and shrugged his shoulders. “Yeah? Why do ya ask?”
“Well, my dad likes to talk about how he met my mom. Mr Greene has told us how he met his last wife a million times. We wanna know how you met Mrs Dixon!”
Almost as if for added emphasis, the other children all perked up and voiced their interest in knowing the tale of how Daryl met you, his beautiful wife. The archer, both amused by the children's nosiness and embarrassed by the metaphorical spotlight he was placed under, let out a small scoff and adjusted Hazel in his arms, allowing the small girl to happily toy with his fingers. “It ain't some big love story or nothin'. It'll only bore ya.”
“No, it won't,” Carl added from his position atop one of the tables. The teenager had been sulking because Rick had forbade him from helping fix the breach in the fence—where several walkers had managed to crawl through—but the chance of getting to know some insight to one of the most talked about couples in the prison brightened his mood somewhat. You and Daryl were the only couple that dated back before the outbreak, and everyone was eager to know how the two of you got together, and how you managed to keep that spark alive. “We wanna know. Come on, Daryl. Please.”
Daryl let out a small groan and rolled his eyes at the young Grimes' insistence. “Why dun' y'all go pester Glenn or somebody? M'sure he'd be more than happy to tell y'all 'bout how he met Maggie.”
“But he's told us that story a zillion times already,” one of the kids groaned. “We wanna hear your story. Please, Mr Dixon.”
Daryl let out a deep sigh. From somewhere behind him, he could hear Carol chuckle, closely followed by the chuckles of a few of the adults that were taking a break from their chores around the prison. Daryl shook his head and pursed his lips. “Y'all really wanna hear?” Almost instantly, all of the kids perked up and simultaneously voiced their clear interest, trying to talk over the other. Daryl raised his eyebrows and let out a small chuckle. “Woah, calm down. I ain't sayin' nothin' 'til y'all quiet down.” And just like that, it got so quiet, one could hear a pin drop. “Y/n and I go back many years, long 'fore all'a y'all kids were born. We're closin' in on three decades'a knowin' one another.”
“Thirty years?” Carl voiced in a disbelieving tone. “That's basically forever!”
Daryl chuckled and shrugged. “Guess ya can say tha', yeah.” Daryl shushed Hazel when she began fussing a bit, lightly tickling her stomach to coax a laugh from her. “We met when we were twelve, 'side this river in the woods outside the trailer park we lived in. I admit, I didn't know wha' to think'a her at first. Refused to talk to her fer a whole month, but she never gave up. She kept pesterin' me 'til one day, somethin' happened and I broke my quiet facade. Tha's when we started becomin' friends.” Daryl stopped and tried to hide the smile that spread across his face, but to no avail. “She, uh... She quickly became my best friend after tha'.”
“When did you start love-liking her?” one of the kids asked with a giggle, closely followed by the mischievous laughter of the other kids.
Daryl hummed and shrugged. “After she did somethin' fer my sixteenth birthday. I liked her fer a while 'fore tha', but tha' occasion was my wake-up call. My feelin's fer her slapped me righ' in the face tha' day.” He stopped and let out a small sigh before continuing. “I didn't have the balls to confess to her fer 'nother year after tha'. And when I did confess, it was righ' after we went and bought pa—” Daryl cut himself off, painfully aware of the immature teenage boys that would freak out over the mere mention of pads. Because of that, he altered the truth a little. “...Pasta fer dinner tha' nigh'. Things escalated and we kissed, and then her mom walked in.”
“No,” Beth gasped, slightly tightening her grip on Judith as she thought of the embarrassing scenario.
Daryl chuckled and shrugged. “It was embarrassin' as shi—crap, tha's fer sure, but we lived. Her mom was nice 'bout it all. Definitely didn't mean we could escape her teasin', though.” He pursed his lips as he thought of that moment, the embarrassment still fresh in his mind, even all those years later. “Her teasin' got even worse when Y/n and I eloped. She was kinda upset 'bout it, but she soon went straight back to teasin' us fer not bein' able to wait to have a proper weddin'.”
By that point, unbeknownst to the archer, the group that had been working on fixing the fence—a group that included you—had silently stepped into the part of the prison everyone was in to alert the kids to the fact that they could go play. However, once they heard what the crossbow-wielding man was talking about, they stopped and remained quiet, eager to hear about it all. And you stayed quiet as well, quite shocked that your husband was willingly telling stories about his past with you. He preferred to keep that part of his life private, but there he was, happily talking away. It made your heart swell with love and affection for the man.
“The two of you stayed together for all those years?” Zach—Beth's boyfriend—asked, leaning against the wall. When Daryl nodded, he continued. “How?”
Daryl shrugged and adjusted his daughter in his arms again, feeling her head begin to droop as she was beginning to fall asleep. “I love 'er. And fer some reason I still don't understand 'til this day, she loves me. Ain't tha' hard to stay committed to the person ya love the most. Relationships ain't always all sunshines and rainbows, but when yer with the person ya love, s'all worth it. Y/n taught me tha'. She's the sweetest person ever. I dun' know wha' I did to deserve her, but I thank my lucky stars every day tha' I get to call her mine.”
It went silent after that. The only sound that could be heard was the distant sound of walkers groaning outside the fences. That is, until Rick spoke up from behind the huntsman, startling him and alerting him to the fact that essentially everyone had heard him practically rave about you.
“Well said, brother. Well said,” Rick complimented him, a faint, teasing smile on his face. He turned towards the younger ones in the group and gestured towards the door. “Y'all can go play now. Just stay away from the fences.” And just like that, all the kids—except Carl—had forgotten their need to hear about Daryl's love story with you. They all excitedly darted out the door, their laughter fading as they disappeared out the doors.
Michonne smirked, playfully hitting you on the back. “Y/n, you never told me you found such a keeper. And you found him early on, too. You're so lucky.”
“Yeah, she is,” Carol chipped in, a teasing smile on her face as well. “Did I ever tell you about this one guy in our old camp that insulted her and Daryl instantly put him on his ass? He did accidentally reveal her pregnancy while doing so, but that's besides the point.”
“Was it Shane?” Rick asked, sighing when Carol nodded. “Yeah, of course it was,” he mumbled while he shook his head.
“Not to mention how he nearly killed Jenner because he wouldn't let us out—well, wouldn't let them out. He didn't care much for us back then. We all know he only wanted the doors open so that Y/n was safe,” Glenn piped in.
“Aw,” Michonne cooed teasingly. “That is so sweet, Daryl. You're just a big teddy bear.”
Daryl ducked his head in embarrassment as the others joined in on the teasing as well. He could feel his cheeks flush, and he would've gotten up and bolted from the embarrassing situation, had it not been for the fact that Hazel had just fallen asleep, and he didn't want to wake her.
The feeling of your hand being rested on his shoulder almost instantly made him calm down, your familiar touch bringing a sense of comfort to him. The rest of the group were to busy relaying their favourite moments they had seen between the two of you to notice this interaction, and the archer was glad about that. He was also glad that they couldn't hear what you whispered in his ear, because although Daryl Dixon wasn't a selfish man, the others didn't have to hear these words you clearly meant just for him:
“I'm proud of you. You climbed out of your shell today and did something I know you don't always enjoy doing. You're amazing, Daryl Dixon, and I love you so much.” You placed a soft, tender kiss on his cheek. “You really are the sweetest person ever.”

Wedding bells—
Quinn Hughes x reader
Request: 🌼 Quinn - he’s drunk and you have you take care of him, I feel like he’d be a cute cuddly drunk
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Captain Huggy Celly
Brady's wedding was beautiful, in every sense of the word. Every detail felt so intimate and romantic, from the ceremony and reception, even down to the colour of the tablecloth. The moment the Hughes family stepped foot on the venue, Y/n knew it would be an amazing day, and she was right.
That same sense of love seeped into the night as the sunset and the drinking started. Quinn was the centre of Y/n's attention all day, looking as handsome as ever in his groomsman suit, with a fresh haircut for the big day, and a wide-lopsided grin.
He watched as his best friend, his brother more or less, became a husband. The realization that they were adults was heavy as Brady kissed his bride. Nostalgia filled his senses as he looked down at the crowd to look at Y/n watching him, tears in her eyes at the love in the air as he smirked at her.
As the night rolled in so did the party, everyone found themselves inside the reception hall, live music playing as the drinks poured and the dancing started.
A wide smile found its way onto Quinn's face as Ellen pulled him out to the dance floor. Luke looked at her with a grin and extended his hand, "my mom stole your man," he joked as she took his hand and let him lead her to the dance floor. "He is her son," the girl shrugged as Luke and she kept a friendly distance as they danced around the floor, giggling at Jack who was stuck dancing with the flower girl, a face full of what seemed embarrassment and adoration as the little girl made him twirl around.
She loved this family, she thought to herself as Luke spun her around and Jim took pictures from the sidelines.
"Your wedding will be nicer than this," Luke mused as she looked at him with an amused look. "It'll be pretty hard to beat this," she shrugged. Luke shook his head, "I don't think so, no one loves like you and Quinn love each other," the boy said sweetly making the woman's face soften.
Y/n smiled softly at the thought of her wedding day. She would be happy just eloping if that's what Quinn wanted, but the fuss would be nice, the intimacy, the romanticism of it all was something she had dreamed of since she was a little girl. Marriage wasn't a foreign subject to her mind, Quinn and her had discussed the subject frequently, both agreeing on a small wedding on some vineyard in Kelowna, wanting the homey feeling of summer to surround them on their special day, very Quinn and Y/n-esque.
Her brows furrowed as she pulled away from her thoughts, searching the crowd for Quinn. Ellen was now sat at a table with Jim and the Tkachuk parents, and Quinn was nowhere to be found.
"Do you see Q?" the girl mumbled to Luke who was quietly laughing at the scene unfolding in front of his eyes. Brady, Josh, and Quinn were going shot for shot at the bar as the band started to play some more upbeat songs. "Oh god," Y/n laughed as she and Luke approached the bar. "Have fun with that," he patted his sister-in-law on the back and left in search of his other brother.
Quinn grinned shyly at his girlfriend as she approached the bar, "Looks like you three are reliving the university days," her brows raised as Josh laughed. "Learn to live a little Y/n/n," Brady joked as he set off to look for his wife. The woman's jaw dropped as Josh mumbled his agreeance with Brady, "your friends love to hate me Q." "Fuck 'em Dove, they suck," he said with a sickeningly sweet smile as his arm found its way around her torso, hugging her closely to his side as she looked at Josh and stuck her tongue out at him.
The girl turned to look up at her boyfriend, a hazy drunk look taking over his face as he dipped down and kissed her on the cheek, something he'd practically been dying to do all day, missing her touch, her warmth.
His hands squeezed her hips as she grinned at the attention, "you look a little drunk my love," he grinned and nodded. "Drunk on your love," he whispered smoothly into her ear before kissing her on the neck, her face heated up as she melted into his hold, "Sorry, that was cheesy," he admitted. "I liked it," she grinned and took one of the hands on her hip and kissed his knuckle, the two of them swayed to the music as they watched the newlyweds family come together to dance.
"I want our wedding to be like this," she mumbled as he grinned into her shoulder. "With fewer people?" he asked, smiling as she nodded, "we should get married soon," he suggested followed by a hiccup, her eyes widening at his nonchalant idea. "You need to propose first my love," she said cooly, her fingers intertwining with his. Quinn chuckled and placed another kiss on the sweet spot on her neck, "I'm working on it Dove, promise," The smell of whiskey hit her senses as she spun around and captured his lips with hers.
Perfect, her life was perfect in every sense of the word.

ok but imagine inviting boyfriend Carmy over for dinner at your parents home and your parents being so nervous to cook for him but Carmy loves the food and ends up asking your mom to teach him the family recipe 😭 I just want chef carmyyyy
god he would be a wreck. only because he just assumes all families are insane and hectic like his is... but your isn't????
your mom is so nice, sweet, inviting. she offers him a drink, thanks him for the side dish he brought, something over the top but not obnoxious. he stressed for days about what to bring. wanted something that was impressive but not arrogant.
she asks him all about being a chef, showing that she proudly owned the magazine he was featured in after winning his james beard. "isn't that so funny? i have a subscription to these cooking magazines. i love to cook. i mean, i'm not as good as you are."
"no, no, i-i'm sure you're good. better, really." carmen blushes, anxious and a little overwhelmed. he had prepared himself for anything but this- nice, homely. "i had to go to school for it. you're good all on your own. this is delicious."
you beam because they're getting along so well. it sends your mom into an ego boost of conversation, sure she'll flaunt to all her friends about how your boyfriend, the infamous young chef, said her food was good. "darlene will never be able to say her cannolis are better because this young man right here just said mine are the best!" she's smitten at it really, and carmen is blushing.
they get in the kitchen and it's over, swapping out recipes and secrets. your mom shares with him your favorite meal, which is juvenile at best, so you get a little embarrassed. spaghetti and meatballs, it's so basic, you knew it was, but it was always your favorite.
"but she likes penne noodles, carmen. don't ask me why. i don't know." your mother waves her hand, scribbling down the recipe.
"mom," you groan, cheeks flooding with heat. carmen is more than amused, grinning back at you.
"and don't you dare leave a tomato chunk in that sauce, carmen, or god help you. oh, this child." she points at you, shaking her head, her tone exaggerated and dramatic- just like her. "i tried to do something different with my sauce one time. once. and this one throws a fit!"
"i was like seven, mom." you huff, rolling your eyes.
"yeah, and you threw a fit like a seventeen year old. it was crazy." your mom scoffs playfully. "anyways, i never did it again. never changed the sauce." she slides the index card over to carmen with a grin. "you might need it one day, carmen."
and he did. one day, when you had a bad day, just everything went wrong, on the brink of tears. carmen followed your mom's recipe. it was close to mikey's, a few minor changes like... sugar in the sauce? he wasn't sure, but he'd do it for you. rolled the meatballs out. even bought the penne pasta, even though every atom in his chef body was screaming at him at the abomination of it.
you walked in, smelling the all too familiar aroma on the stove, carmen- having a day off now that business was steady and established- just gave you a small smile.
you wanted to sob, but you didn't. sitting with him instead and letting him fuss over you. he stood, watching you take the first bite excitedly. "good?" he grinned.
you nodded. "better than my mom's. don't you dare tell her i said that." you smiled back.
he beamed. "don't you." he smirks, pressing a finger into your side playfully.
you do tell your mom what he did, and she is beaming. brags on him the next time she sees him, even throwing in a playful, "heard you've outdone me." with a wink.
carmen is a red, blushing mess. "i told you not to say that!"
"it was just a joke, carmy. she's teasing you."

Second Chances, a Shouto and Touya fix-it one-shot ~
tags: healing todofam, todosibs, Shouto and Touya focused, some dabihawks and bktd in the time jump part
note: this ended up a lot longer than planned, and I even added a time jump for some dabihawks and tdbk in there hehe! And as usual I'm playing a little fast and loose with the ages of the Todoroki kids for plot purposes, so let's just go with it and have fun, yeah?
~ ao3 link ~
He got life as a gift for a second time.
That's what the doctors and nurses keeps telling him, at least.
But right now, Touya's not sure he agrees with them.
The sterile air in the hospital room makes his nose and mouth feel dry, his eyes feels tired of all the white; the white walls, floors, sheets, his white bandages.
But honestly, while his body is covered in bandages and skin grafts and the intense pain that flares through his very bones every time he takes a breath, he still thinks the worst part is the embarrassment.
Turns out nobody tells you how embarrassing it is to almost die.
The nurses treat him like he's some little baby, which he isn't, he's 13 and a half, and the doctors talk all over him.
Meanwhile his family is all being totally awkward and weird, even more so than before, which quite frankly is saying something.
All Touya wanted had been for his dad to see him, to listen and to give him a little attention; how stupid and unknowing he had been.
Now his father refuses to leave his side, always just sitting there, teary eyed and sad looking, which is ridiculous when Touya's not used to see him show any emotion besides anger.
At first he has tried to hold Touya's hand all the time, but Touya managed to put a stop to that sooner rather than later.
His mom is quiet, and she's usually smiling and telling him about her day and how the wildlife in their garden is doing, but Touya sees the sadness in her eyes, too.
No matter how much she tries to hide it.
Fuyumi and Natsuo clearly thinks the hospital is scary, and Fuyumi keeps berating him for hurting himself, but she also loves to whisper to him about how dad is different now, that he barley goes to work, and Natsuo said that he even tried to watch SpongeBob with them recently.
Touya would love to have witnessed that, but all he gets is weepy dad.
No fair.
The only one he hasn't seen yet is Shouto, and he understands why.
Touya is way too scary looking for a little kid like Shouto.
One of the changes Fuyumi and Natsuo mentioned is that dad is no longer super focused on training Shouto, and Touya thinks Shouto should be able to enjoy that without being traumatized by seeing his brother looking like a freaky mix of a mummy and Frankenstein's monster.
So no, Shouto had not come to visit, yet.
But apparently he's been asking about "Nii-San" all the time, and their mom is insisting that Shouto is ready, but Touya isn't so sure.
The next time his mom comes through the door to the room to his hospital room, she looks weirdly nervous, but she's also smiling.
Like she has a secret.
Touya's not a fan of secrets.
She sits down next to him carefully, and when he finally looks at her properly, she puts her hand on his.
"Someone's here to see you, today," she says softly, and Touya sighs.
"Is it dad?" he asks in his new, creaky voice.
"Is he crying?"
Touya swears his mom hides a smile behind her hand.
"No dear, your father is home with your brother and sister," she informs him, and Touya nods.
"Good."
Rei tilts her head.
"Your little brother really worries for you, Touya," she says softly, and Touya has a feeling she's not talking about Natsuo.
"Probably because you guys are making such a fuss," Touya mumbles grumpily, before he adds.
"And dad crying all the time."
Rei actually fully smiles this time.
"That might be, but he refused to let me leave without him today, so he's sitting outside in the waiting room as we speak," she tells him, and Touya's heart starts speeding up.
"You let him come?!" he asks, and Rei sighs.
"Like I told you, he refused to let me leave," she says.
"I think that was the first temper tantrum he's thrown in his whole little life, actually."
Touya's eyes widens.
"He did?" he asks, only half believing her.
"He did," Rei confirms, before she continues.
"He's also refusing to see you with me in the room, so I'm gonna go outside and send him in now."
Touya doesn't protest, but he can't meet her eyes.
"It's time, baby," Rei says softly as she strokes his cheek, before she gently tilts his face so he has to face her.
"And be kind to your brother."
Touya nods.
He doesn't have enough energy to put up a fight.
His mom gets up to leave, and Touya keeps looking out the window, trying to show how disinterested he is.
The door closes, and he hears two quiet voices outside for a bit, before a tentative knock hits his door.
Touya sighs heavily.
"Come in, Shouto," he calls out as loud as his fried vocal cords will let him.
The door creaks open, and the sound of little footsteps comes closer towards his bed.
Touya really doesn't want to turn around and face his little brother.
What if he scares him?
With his burned face and bandaged body, with his new voice and his pale face, those parts that aren't burned at least.
Turns out Touya doesn't have to turn around, because Shouto's already made that choice for him by walking all the way around the bed.
Suddenly Shouto is standing right in front of him, his mis-matched eyes staring straight into Touya's, and for a few seconds his expression is unreadable.
Touya's heart is beating so fast and hard he worries it'll alert the nurses.
Then, as if someone pulled away curtains on a sunny day, Shouto's face lights up with pure joy and relief.
"Nii-San!" he squeals, and clumsily tries to climb up into Touya's bed.
Touya just stares, trying to figure out if this is real.
Shouto finally clambers up into the bed, and he gently reaches out to put his hand on Touya's cheek.
Exactly like their mom.
"Nii-San, does it hurt?" he asks quietly, and Touya blinks down at him.
Then he nods.
"Yes, it does," he says carefully, and if Shouto is scared of his voice, he doesn't show it.
Shouto's face falls a little, so Touya hurries to continue.
"But they give me great pain medication, and the doctors says my skin gr-"
Touya cuts himself off mid-sentence to not traumatize his almost-seven year old brother more than necessary.
"Uhm, my brand new skin is growing quick and it's strong!"
Shouto's eyes are huge, but not from fear, rather... awe?
"You're so strong, Touya-nii!" he exclaims eagerly, and Touya feels a blush creep up on his cheeks.
"I'm not..." he starts, but once again cuts himself off.
No need to take his own self hatred out by airing it out to his baby brother.
"Well, thank, Shou," Touya says quietly as he gently ruffles the kid's two toned hair.
Shouto beams.
"When I grow up I wanna be like you," Shouto declares, and Touya's heart squeezes.
Had he always been this goddamn cute?!
Touya gives him a wry smile.
"Maybe a little less fried, tho, right?" he asks in a teasing tone, and Shouto giggles, before his face gets serious again.
"You were very hurt, Nii-san," he says in his serious little voice.
"Dad cried."
Touya sighs and rolls his eyes.
"Well, dad cries every time he's here now, so you don't get to complain!" Touya says, trying to lighten the mood.
Shouto doesn't smile.
"I was really scared, Touya-Nii," he whispers.
Touya averts his eyes.
"I'm sorry about that, Shou," he says quietly, and suddenly a small hand grabs Touya's.
"Just don't get hurt like that again, okay?" Shouto asks, and Touya looks back at him.
"I'll try my best," he says with a small smile.
Shouto shakes his head.
"Promise!" he insists.
Touya chuckles.
"Fine, I promise," he says and he ruffles Shouto's hair again.
"Promise."
-
At this point, a trip to the hospital is like a trip to the grocery store for Touya.
Even his family doesn't kick up much of a fuss for these smaller procedures anymore, which is quite nice honestly.
Especially now that he has a boyfriend that takes care of all that worrying for him.
This was the first time since he and Keigo got serious he had to go under anesthesia for a small procedure, and Keigo had not been coping too well.
He was pretty good at pretending to keep it cool, but Touya knew better, and it was obvious he'd been a nervous wreck.
Which is why he's rather surprised when the first person through his doors when he's come to after surgery isn't Keigo.
Touya should have known.
"Nii-San!" he exclaims as he hurries over to Touya's bedside.
Touya can't help but smile.
"Hi, Shou," he says tiredly, and Shouto sits down on his bedside.
Even now, 18 years old, interning as a Pro-Hero and with a steady boyfriend, Shouto still gets that look in his eyes sometimes.
The one he had when he told Touya that he wanted to be just like him when he grew up.
To be fair he wasn't doing half bad on the matter.
Shouto was interning at the same agency that Touya (and Keigo) currently worked at, and he was already taking an extra interest in rescue and first aid work.
Touya couldn't be prouder.
"So, why is your face the first I see, and not my doting boyfriend?" Touya asks dryly, and Shouto shrugs.
"Because I told him to wait outside," Shouto said simply.
Touya felt a headache coming on.
"Why?" he asks, and Shouto tilts his head.
"Because I'm the first one who sees you," Shouto says simply, and Touya rolls his eyes.
This kid.
"I hope you were nice to Keigo at least?" he asks, and Shouto nods.
"I'm always nice to Keigo, I like him a lot."
Touya feels a small smile tug on his lips.
"I'm not so sure about Kats, tho," Shouto adds thoughtfully.
Touya's smile drops.
"...please tell me you did not leave Keigo alone with Bakugo?" Touya asks, and Shouto blinks.
"Why would I tell you that?" Shouto asks genuinely.
Touya sighs heavily.
"Nevermind Shou, could you just tell Keigo that he can come in now?" he asks, and Shouto nods.
"Oh, sure," he agrees and gets up off the bedside.
Before he goes to save Touya's boyfriend and keep his own in check, he stops and gives Touya a genuine look.
"I'm glad you're okay, Nii-San," he says quietly, and Touya smiles.
"Well, I'm glad you cam to check on me, Shou," Touya says back, and Shouto beams.
"I'm planning on keeping it that way," Shouto informs him.
Touya chuckles.
"I'll tell Keigo," he says dryly, but Shouto nods serious.
"Yeah, you probably should."
Touya waits to roll his eyes until Shouto's turned around.
"Don't roll your eyes at me, Touya-Nii."
Touya huffs.
"Just get my boyfriend, you menace."
Shouto turns back to give him a final smile before he goes out the door, and as soon as the door opens the sound of Bakugo's voice hits them both, and Shouto suddenly seems in a bit more of a hurry.
"Yeah, hurry up you little weirdo," Touya mumbles as Shouto scatters off.
He's rather grateful he still has his biggest fan, after all.

REMNANTS | E.M.
word count: 2.3k
warning: alternative series ending, no happy ending, thought we were done with this but if I can't talk about it with someone then I can write about it to someone- make this go away by making you the villain vibes except it’s scary factual
summary: you overhear a conversation between eddie and billy and realize your parents had good reason to try and keep you away from him.
previous parts: linger | fleeting | gone
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You had a sickening pull to your stomach, the butterflies that lived there had turned to stone, heavy and rough, and it made you want to throw up. Your dad was right, as if that sentence alone wasn’t enough to make your guts jumble, it also made the next part even worse because he was right about Eddie being not only bad for you, but ultimately being on the wrong side of things altogether. Motives really do change, people really do change, but what if you just didn’t know Eddie’s motives from the beginning. When Billy Hargrove started working for the family your dad thought he’d be able to change him and bring out better in him, and for a while he did, for a while, he worked harder than he schemed. But still, he managed to change everything, nearly ruining the entire legacy your parents had created by allowing squatters to move into rooms and pocketing the money, sent out false communications in your dad’s name, selling private information to whoever paid him the most- it was unreal that someone so young, so immature could create such a scheme right under everyone’s noses.
Eddie wasn’t directly involved in any of it, but he knew, you didn’t know that he knew, and it should’ve made you run for the hills when you found out that he did. You should’ve, the second you saw Billy talking to him, the second he started getting a little too involved in the admin part of the job, you should’ve seen his helpfulness and eagerness for what it truly was- a search for an in and you very naively gave it to him by thinking with your heart and not your head.
Your mom decided to send you home, it wasn’t as busy, the work you had to do wasn’t stuck to the office and though she’d never tell your dad about it, your mom knew you were hurting a little at the idea that Eddie, in all his kind glory wasn’t truly who you thought he was. In the back of your head, you could clearly still see your Eddie, he was still all the things that made you blush just at the thought of him but there was a snippy voice in your head that wondered what about it was real, what about it was an act and what about it was just a ploy to distract you from what was happening. You wondered if he ever even wanted to be your friend, ever actually saw you, or if it was always just an endgame type of scenario, if he applied just enough sweet charm, you’d fold like paper, the boss’ naïve daughter who was so desperate for any form of care or love or attention she fell for it without a single bit of hesitation. You felt embarrassed, and stupid, like all those times your mom told you that guys would change your character was right, and that made you so cross too because you were sure you’d be different.
You were already having a horrendous day, fought with your mom, had to apologize for not cutting him off when you should’ve, when you realized you liked him, why you didn’t tell her and the truth was because you knew she’d reason with you, make you realize how selfish, how unlike yourself you were being. And how would you explain that, you’d not done anything wrong, innocent conversations, subtle musings that disguised his flirting, really it was just nice to be noticed, be seen and fussed over, you didn’t need to hide yourself, you could just be.  Now it felt like there was a magnifying glass aimed right at you, every move, every word, everything you’d done the last few months was now under question because you’d not seen Eddie for who he was. You wanted to walk it off and get some air before having to sit in a car with them to be taken home. It wasn’t like you’d run into any of them, not when they were in hiding somewhere discussing their plans.
When you’d found yourself in front of the empty room that used to be an office, that used to be where you and Eddie hid away to eat lunch, to breathe a little, you didn’t expect to find him there, didn’t expect to find him there with those type of people either, seems like you were still in the process of finding out just how much you misunderstood him.
“Oh get over it, so what if she’s ignoring you,” it was Billy’s voice, too arrogant all things considered, too loud considering he wasn’t allowed in the building in the first place, you peaked into the window and saw Eddie shrug, his face looked different, clouded by something-  secrets, just like theirs. “Never mind that, we’ve still got the floorplans, still know which rooms are open and when they’ll be filled,” he was smoking, flicked ash onto the carpet, and rubbed it into the material with the sole of his boot. “Besides, if she comes out saying anything to her parents, we have enough to put everything right back onto her,” that sickening feeling was back, it felt like it was trying to harden the whole of your body with it.
“I don’t know about that, man,” Eddie took a drag from the cigarette and shook his head, he looked unsure, but you couldn’t know, not now, you weren’t sure if you’d ever been able to read him in the first place. “She’s a sweet girl, I mean I know we used her for intel, know it was easy to get her on my side, but shit, I don’t know if it’s right to make this all out to be her fault when it goes wrong.”
“When?” Billy scoffed, a sound, much like his general existence that made you want to throw a chair at him just to silence it. “Eddie, we’ve been one step ahead of them since the beginning, by the chance they catch onto us we’ll be walking away with full pockets and not a single piece of evidence pointing to us.”
You somehow felt even more stupid when you expected Eddie to defend you, your family, he’d been working close enough to the lot of you to at least realize that this wasn’t okay, wasn’t right, definitely wasn’t legal, but it wasn’t how you treated people who cared for you, helped you.
“I think my pockets are full enough,” Eddie stood up, stuffed the cigarette in Billy’s hand, and kicked at the mark Billy left on the floor as if it could take it out now, you bit back a scoff, very typical. “I don’t want to be involved in this anymore, I didn’t think I’d care if I hurt them, thought people like them deserve it but-“
“But you like her? So what if you like her, do you think she’d care about you at all outside of this place, if she’d met you in the diner or the supermarket, she wouldn’t even have noticed you,” he wasn’t wrong, you hated to know he wasn’t wrong, but it meant you also wouldn’t have gotten hurt, it means you would’ve been right to stay as far away as possible. “Besides, she’d write you off in an instant if she knew what you’d been doing with me, that’s the whole point, we’re all caught up in it now, no getting out of it- we’re the ones with the power, we can take them all down with us.”
“You give yourself too much credit, Billy,” Eddie looked like he’d seen a ghost when you opened the office door to see them, he’d paled, and tried his best to hide his reaction but failed completely. “It’s going to take more than a little plan decided on over cigarettes and late-night beers to take down this business, we were surviving before you, and we’ll survive after you,” you couldn’t look at Eddie, took the cigarette from Billy’s hold and put it out on the plastic shades hanging on his shirt pocket. “Now, the sign with your picture on it by the gate is more than just a little suggestion- you’re not allowed on the premises.”
“Hasn’t stopped me before, has it,” he winked and shoved Eddie’s shoulder lightly before he made quite the scene of walking away from you. “See you soon,” he paused, scoffed at the way Eddie was looking at you, lips moving without any words. “Good luck, Eds.”
You waited for the door to shut, for his steps to echo on the stairs as he left, for your heart to start beating again, for your blood to stop boiling. When you finally looked up at the boy, you wished you hadn’t, he looked guilty, you didn’t need to know him to know that it was written all over his features, all over his movements- he moved to say something, you shook your head, he didn’t take note of it.
“I’m sorry,” it felt odd being on the receiving end of that phrase, when you used it the day before it had such a different meaning, and held such different emotions, he was guilty, he was doing something wrong and he was able to hide it from you for months now but with it all out in the open it was like he couldn’t hide from it either, he had to face it now. “I didn’t want to hurt you.”
“Bite your tongue,” you had to be careful now, not too emotional, not too revealing, he wasn’t on your side, wasn’t one you could trust with yourself anymore, another person to sift with, another person to pretend with. “You don’t believe that- I most certainly don’t- I might not know you Eddie Munson, but you knew me enough to take part in this plan of yours so don’t you dare try and tell me you didn’t think this would hurt me.”
“It’s not that simple, okay, yes it started as an act, but I swear things started changing for me, you made this so difficult for me, I knew I should’ve kept going but I couldn’t stand seeing you actually like me knowing what I was doing.”
“I made it hard for you to hurt me?” you scoffed, your words might be calculated but the sound was very telling, you were fuming, you were devastated, how Eddie of all people could be the one to do this to you was madness, unbelievable- how he could be working hand in hand to hurt the business was a whole other thing, your entire livelihood was at stake because he wanted to score some extra cash this month. You shook your head. “I’m so confused, Eddie, honestly, I should be so upset with you but more than anything I’m literally so disappointed in you. You’re better than this, you’re better than him and his schemes- you had a shot here, you were proving yourself to my parents, you had a future here aside for me and you completely threw that away- you think they could trust you after this?”
“I didn’t think it through,” he pulled a hand through his hair, and pulled at his denim jacket, it seemed like he didn’t know what to do with his hands, with his body, he wanted to speak to you but you had a feeling he didn’t know where to even begin, even if he had, he knew you wouldn’t listen, wouldn’t accept anything from him after what you’d just heard. “I didn’t think it would go this far.”
“Neither did I,” he reached for you, and you stepped back, absolutely hated that, he did it again and you physically had to push his hand away. “Don’t. Don’t you dare.”
“Please, you don’t need to forgive me, but hear me out, let me explain, it won’t mean much but I swear there’s more to this than what you overheard,” you allowed his hand to brush against yours, closed your eyes for a second at the familiar feel of it, considered how you’d think about it for days on end even after all his done.
“Just leave, Eddie, take your cash, your people, leave before I have to tell my dad about all of this and he makes you leave,” you folded your arms around yourself, hated yourself more than you could fathom, how could you have fallen for this, how could you allow yourself to feel like this. “Please, this was cruel, it was unkind and unfair and I never for a second expected this of you so please just leave- please don’t let this linger.”
And he didn’t, he left, you shattered, felt the remnants of your trust in him fall to the floor, and you had no idea how to process this. It was never just a crush, it was never a crush in the first place, you were a pawn and they just took you right off the board.

Chapter 15 - Happier
Ain't nobody hurt you like I hurt you,
But ain't nobody love you like I do.
Promise that I will not take it personal, baby,
If you're movin' on with someone new.
The BAU returned home from their case four days later and Luke called Spencer in regards to helping train his wayward dog.
In those four days Spencer threw himself into summer activities with his daughters to stem his need for alcohol.
On Monday the temperature skyrocketed suddenly, over ninety degrees which was unusual for Virginia. Even with the AC cranked up the house was like a sauna. So somewhat reluctantly he’d taken them to the local pool.
And he got a whole lot more than he bargained for.
Unsurprisingly the pool had been packed and he only managed to secure one deck chair but Lily and Daisy didn’t intend to sit with him anyway.
He’d already slathered them in sunblock before they left the house but insisted on putting more on them when they arrived.
Lily didn’t mind so much but Daisy fussed, uttering things like “god dad you’re so embarrassing” while he simply tried to stop her from burning in the sun.
As soon as he was finished with them, they ran off towards the pool, leaving him alone on his sole deck chair.
He rubbed some more sunblock on his face, arms and shins, the only skin exposed to the elements. He left his t-shirt on, not particularly enjoying the idea of being half naked around a packed pool full of strangers.
He brought a bag full of books, given his reading speed he’d need them to stay entertained while his kids played in the pool.
He settled back in the chair, laying his head back and swinging his legs up, plucking out the first book.
It was noisy and busy, patrons packed in like sardines in a tin. It wasn’t exactly the relaxing summer vacation he’d had planned.
The sun was hot and heavy in the sky and he already felt the sweat gathering at his temples.
Kids ran rampant screaming and yelling at one another while fathers bellowed to their children to behave. With the exception of the beach, this was probably the last place he ever wanted to be.
He opened the book to the first page while glancing out at the pool. Lily and Daisy were together in the shallow end, Daisy holding her little sister's hand.
It made his heart swell. The girls had their problems from time to time but on the whole they got on really well. Daisy was always protective of her younger sibling, even if Lily annoyed her sometimes.
He looked back at his book and started to read, glancing up at the girls every few minutes to ensure they were still ok.
About twenty minutes passed before he felt like he was being watched.
He frowned to himself, those old FBI instincts never leaving him. He closed his book and turned to his left. Low and behold there was someone on the chair beside him watching him intently.
“Sorry,” she blushed a little as Spencer regarded her. “I was amazed how deep in concentration you were given everything going on.”
“Right,” he smiled, nodding his head. “Guess I’m good at switching off outside stimuli.”
She smiled at him, a really pretty smile in Spencer’s opinion. She had dark, almost black hair which was tied up off of her face and dazzling blue eyes.
“Lucky you, I wish I could do that.” She sat up, swinging her legs over the edge of her chair and Spencer found himself doing the same. “I’m Blair.”
She held out her hand and Spencer shook it.
“Spencer.” He replied.
“Which one is yours?” Blair nodded towards the pool.
Spencer glanced around to see Daisy floating on her back in the water while her little sister spun herself around in circles, sending small waves crashing about.
“The brunette in the red bathing suit and the little one with the curly hair spinning about.” He smiled at his girls. “Yours?”
“Sitting on the edge, hasn’t taken his eyes off of your eldest.” She laughed.
Spencer’s eyes gravitated towards a boy around Daisy’s age on the edge of the pool. His eyes, that looked just like his mothers, were staring directly at his daughter.
He had a head of floppy dark hair, he looked to be tall even though he was sitting down. He awkwardly played with his hands in his lap whilst watching Daisy gracefully drift in the pool.
“Maybe we’ll have to make an introduction.” Spencer laughed as he looked back at Blair.
He did not miss the way her eyes glanced down to his left hand and he couldn’t help the way he returned the favour.
“Single dad?” She asked with a slightly melancholy smile.
“Yeah, me and their mom split up.” He nodded. “You?”
“Cameron’s dad was…not a nice man.” She replied, pulling a face.
Spencer could read between the lines.
“Oh gosh, I’m so sorry.” Spencer rolled his lip between his teeth.
“It’s ok. He’s not around anymore, hasn’t been for a long time.” She forced a smile and even if it wasn't genuine it was still so pretty. “We were going to go for ice cream after this. Maybe you and your girls want to join us? We could introduce Cameron and…”
“Daisy. And the little one is Lily.”
“Cute names.” Blair smiled again and this time it was genuine.
“Not my choice, but thanks.” He laughed dryly. “And yes to ice cream. I think it’s safe to say we would all really enjoy that.”
“Great.”
“Great.” Spencer repeated dumbly, getting a little lost in Blair's eyes.
For the first time in a long time, Spencer felt something akin to decent.
***
He and Blair spent the next hour talking about anything and everything, his bag of books long forgotten.
She was the manager of an art gallery near DuPont circle, born and raised in the district. Her and her husband were high school sweethearts, marrying when they were just twenty two and having Cameron two years later.
She explained as much as her ex having a temper which didn’t manifest until after Cameron was born. She described him as controlling and intimidating but Spencer could tell by the way she shrunk a little as she spoke about him that he’d been abusive.
She said the last time she saw him was around the time Cameron turned ten, when he was being sentenced to prison time after a drunk driving incident where he’d killed two people.
She’d sent divorce papers to his lawyer a month later.
At thirty eight she was six years Spencer’s junior, but he’d always had a bit of a thing for a younger woman. It was certainly a pattern, both you and Maeve were younger than him which probably said all it needed to.
After a while, during a conversation about literature, Spencer felt a wet body suddenly wrapping around him from behind.
“Daddy, I’m bored.” Lily threw her arms around his neck, cuddling into his back.
“Hey pumpkin, where’s your sister?” He pulled her out from behind him and into his lap.
Lily pointed over his shoulder to where Daisy was strolling towards them, a lanky young man at her side.
He looked at Blair and they smiled at each other.
“You make a friend, Daisy?” Spencer looked back at her.
“Uh, yeah. This is Cam. This is my dad.” She rolled her eyes.
“Daisy, Lily, this is Blair. Cameron’s mom. We were going to go for ice cream with them, how does that sound?”
“Ice cream!” Lily screeched, wriggling in Spencer’s lap.
He grabbed a towel and wrapped it around his giggling daughter.
“Sure, why not?” Daisy shrugged like she couldn’t care less as did Cameron.
Typical teenagers, Spencer thought.
He dried off Lily and had Daisy take her to the restrooms so they could both get changed. Cameron stayed as he hadn’t gone in the pool and didn’t have his wet clothes to change out of.
Spencer and Blair packed up their things and once the girls were back they left their respective cars at the pool and walked the two blocks to the ice cream place.
Daisy refused to sit with the adults and she and Cameron got their own table. Lily tried to sit with them too but her sister shooed her away.
Pouting due to be shot down by Daisy, she grew clingy and snuggled right up to Spencer while she ate her ice cream.
“Looks like they’re hitting it off.” Blair spoke between mouthfuls of her scoop, nodding towards the two teens.
“Looks that way.” Spencer nodded, feeling Lily’s ice cream dripping onto his shorts. “Lil, sweetheart, be careful please.”
“Sorry daddy.” She pouted.
Spencer and Blair continued to chat while Lily sulked by her dads side and the teens kept to themselves.
After a while Daisy appeared by their table, arms folded across her chest.
“Can we go to the pool again tomorrow?” She asked him.
“Can I assume Cameron is going to the pool tomorrow?” He teased her.
“Dad shut up!” She huffed. “You’re so embarrassing.”
“Was I going to be consulted?” Blair asked her son as he joined them.
Cameron shrugged, looking equally the part of moody teenager as Daisy did.
“I thought we were going to the Smithsonian tomorrow? There was that exhibit you wanted to look at.” Spencer asked his daughter.
“No, that sounds lame.” She shook her head.
“I don’t think it sounds lame.” Cameron nudged her arm gently.
“No?” She smiled at him, practically giving him heart eyes.
“Can we go too mom?” Cameron turned to Blair.
“As long as they don’t mind the company, I don’t see why not.” Blair’s eyes sparkled as she looked at Spencer and Spencer smiled a little bashfully.
“That would be great.” He nodded.
“Gross, get a room.” Daisy scoffed, turning and skulking off again, Cameron close behind.
“Please never grow up.” He whispered to Lily, placing a kiss on her head.
“Ok daddy.” She nodded, mouth smeared with her mint choc chip.
***
Spencer and Blair exchanged numbers before going their separate ways. On Tuesday the five of them met up at the Smithsonian.
As was expected, Daisy and Cameron went on ahead while Spencer, Blair and Lily strolled behind them.
Conversation with Blair flowed easily, as if he’d known her his whole life. They had a lot in common, including being single parents with issues towards their exes.
Maybe she was exactly what Spencer needed. It was nice to talk to someone who understood him, who understood where he’d been. Blair took his mind off everything going on in his life, eased his troubles with her smile.
They ended up spending the whole day together, it seemed to go by in the blink of an eye. As the kids were getting into their cars, Spencer and Blair hung back.
“I had a really nice time today.” She smiled that easy smile at him and he reciprocated.
“So did I.” He agreed.
“I wondered if maybe you’d be interested in doing something again. Maybe without the kids?” She shrugged shyly.
“I would like that a lot.” He nodded. “The girls only go to their moms every other weekend but I can get a sitter.”
“When were you thinking?”
“As soon as humanly possible?” He confessed which made her laugh.
“Eager?” She chuckled lightly, a sound Spencer really enjoyed.
“Maybe a little.” He laughed too. “My friends have pretty demanding jobs though and they're out of state at the moment. The minute they’re back I can get one of them to sit the girls and I’d love to take you to dinner.”
“Sounds perfect.” Blair nodded, stepping a little closer and placing a gentle kiss on Spencer’s cheek. “See you soon, Spencer.”
“You most certainly will.” He swallowed, watching her get into her car before he moved towards his own.
He smiled the whole drive home.
***
On Wednesday he and the girls stayed home. The temperature dropped a few degrees and they mostly played in the yard with Taco.
On Thursday Daisy went to the mall with Meredith and Meredith’s mother so Spencer took Lily and Taco to the park.
In the evening Luke called to tell him they’d arrived back from their case and arranged to come over on Friday to help with his dog problems.
“One more thing,” Spencer said before Luke had a chance to hang up.
“Shoot,” Luke replied.
“I don’t suppose you and Garcia want some quality time with the girls tomorrow night do you?”
“Sick of them already? Man, it's gonna be a long summer.” Luke laughed.
“It’s not that.” Spencer chewed his lip.
“Oh,” Luke read between the lines. “You and Y/N make up?”
Spencer hated the way his chest tightened hearing your name and tried to ignore it.
“Uh, not exactly.” He sighed. “I might have met someone else.”
“Jeez, you’re like a woman magnet recently.” Luke laughed. “How are you finding these women?”
“I met her at the pool. She’s a single mom and she’s great, really great. We’ve hung out with the kids but I want to take her dinner.”
“Sure, Garcia and I can come by and look after the girls.”
“Or…” Spencer chewed his lip again. “They could come to your place?”
There were a few moments of silence in which Luke was once again reading between the lines.
“Right,” the older man started to laugh again. “Can’t bring a date home when you’ve got kids there. Got it.”
“That makes me sound like an ass.” Spencer sighed. “But you know, on the off chance that’s on the cards…”
“They can come to my place. I’ve got the guest room so I’d they don’t mind sharing then it’s no issue for me.”
“Have I told you that you are the best?”
“Not lately, no.” Luke rolled his eyes.
“Well, you are. Oh and please don’t tell anyone.”
Luke chuckled to himself, shaking his head before he responded.
“See you tomorrow, lover boy.”
***
You stood on the curb outside of the restaurant, hugging your arms around your waist whilst thinking, not for the first time tonight, why am I doing this?
It was your first official date with Sam, your old college friend and now you were here you didn’t know why.
The two of you had been close in college and you’d always had a little crush on him. He was smart and handsome and charming but you’d always remained just friends. After college you’d lost touch.
When you’d bumped into each other a few weeks ago you’d picked back up like no time had passed. You’d had dinner as friends, gotten coffee a few times but then he’d asked you out on a date.
If you’d never met Spencer, going on a date with your college crush would have been like all your wildest dreams come true. But you had met Spencer, and along the way forgotten all about Sam.
And now you were outside of the restaurant, looking in on him through the window, this was the last place in the world you wanted to be.
You liked Sam, there was still a spark between you. But he wasn’t Spencer.
As you were considering turning and leaving, calling him and telling him you’d come down with something, he spotted you through the window.
He waved at you and offered you that devilishly attractive smile and you waved back, trying to push down all thoughts of Spencer as you forced yourself inside.
He stood as soon as you neared the table and pulled you into his strong arms. His musky cologne smelt delicious and for a moment you were able to cast Spencer Reid from your mind.
“You look absolutely beautiful.” Sam beamed at you as he pulled away.
“Thank you.” You blushed a little, smoothing down the front of your sunflower yellow sundress.
Sam held your chair out for you and you slid into it, making yourself comfortable while he made his way to his own seat.
“I ordered a bottle of Merlot, I hope that’s ok? I remember it being your favourite.”
“Wow, good memory.” You smiled a little nervously.
“I never forgot a single thing about you.” He confessed, placing his napkin in his lap. “I had the biggest crush on you in college.”
“You did?” Your mouth fell open.
“Oh come on, I wasn’t exactly subtle.” He chuckled.
“I honestly had no idea. I wish I had, because I also had a huge crush on you.” You felt your cheeks burning.
“Well damn,” Sam laughed, shaking his head. “I guess we have a lot of lost time to make up for.”
“I guess so.” You nodded as your wine was brought over.
You perused your menus and soon ordered, and the two of you fell into comfortable conversation. That is until the topic of your dating history was brought up.
Sam admitted he’d dated a lot but never managed to settle down. When he turned the question back to you, you took a large sip of wine as Spencer reentered your brain.
“Honestly I haven’t really dated all that much. I was busy I guess. There was one guy, more recently, but it didn’t work out.” You chewed awkwardly on the inside of your cheek.
“The professor?”
“Huh?”
“You mentioned the professor you were working for, Reid? I noticed you got a little uncomfortable when you spoke about him and I wondered if there was a history.” Sam was smiling at you but you couldn’t return it.
“Yeah that was him.” You took another sip of wine. “He was…complicated. Two kids, an ex-wife who he was most certainly still in love with even though he would pretend otherwise.”
“Jeez,” Sam pulled a face. “That is complicated.”
“Tell me about it.” You sighed.
“Well, I’m just about as uncomplicated as they come.” He shot you one of those smiles that always made your knees a little weak.
“I like uncomplicated.” You smiled back.
“And I like you.” He slid his hand across the table and threaded his fingers with your own.
And when he touched you like that, Spencer was once again the furthest thing from your mind.
***
Luke made some progress with Taco which was more than Spencer expected. After a few gruelling hours the dog was responding to the commands of sit and stay which was impressive if you asked Spencer.
Luke told him it wouldn’t be easy, Taco wasn’t a puppy and therefore wouldn’t be as easy to train but Luke was certainly up to the challenge.
When the evening rolled around Spencer got ready for his date and Luke took the girls and Taco back to his place where Penelope was meeting them.
Spencer was strangely nervous as he got ready, but not necessarily in a good way. He remembered the excitement he felt on his first date with you and this was nothing like that.
Perhaps he knew this wasn’t right. Deep down something was telling him he shouldn’t go ahead with this. His own mental health and his kids needed to be his priority, he needed to focus on bettering himself for the girls.
But you’d made him realise just how lonely he was. And now he remembered what it was like to have someone he couldn’t stand the thought of being alone again. Even if it wasn’t you keeping him company.
He pushed down his nerves and thoughts of you, it wasn’t conducive and therefore he didn’t need to be plagued by it.
He finished getting ready, fighting his daily battle with his perpetually messy hair, before jumping in his car and heading out to meet Blair.
***
The first stumbling block happened within a few minutes of sitting down in the restaurant when Blair asked him if he wanted to get a bottle of wine.
He couldn’t very well admit to a woman whose husband was arrested for drunk driving that he was recovering from alcohol abuse. Instead he tried to talk his way out of it.
“I’m driving so it’s probably best I don’t drink.” He chewed the inside of his cheek.
“Ok, just a glass then?” She smiled at him and he melted a little, almost agreeing because a glass of wine really would help take the edge off.
But he couldn’t, he wouldn’t.
“You know, I’ve not been feeling a hundred percent today so I think I’m going to just stick to water. Please have whatever you want though.” He insisted, trying to deflect.
“Oh, we could have rescheduled.” She pulled a face.
“It’s ok, I’m fine. I just don’t think alcohol would be a good idea.” That wasn’t a lie, alcohol would not be a good idea.
He felt like he dodged a bullet when she didn’t mention it any further. But the second stumbling block came after they had ordered their food.
“So I told you about my ex, you didn’t really tell me about yours.” She smiled sweetly, no idea the can of worms she was opening with that statement.
Spencer sipped his water, trying to pretend it was scotch but failed and was left disappointed.
“Uh, well, let’s see,” he took another sip. “We were married for thirteen years but for the last three of those, she was cheating on me.” He thought it best to just rip it off like a bandaid.
“Oh gosh,” Blair frowned around her wine glass. “That’s horrible.”
“I mean, it's nothing in comparison to what you’ve been through but yeah, it certainly wasn’t great.”
“I figured something must have happened because you said the girls only see her every two weeks.”
“I tried to fight for full custody if I’m honest.” He shrugged with a sigh. “But she is still their mom.”
“When did you split up, if you don’t mind me asking?” She swirled her wine around in her glass.
“A little over a year ago. It’s been tough but my girls are resilient.”
“And you?” Her eyes sparkled a little.
Was he going to make the same mistake with you and lie about his feelings? He didn’t see the point if he was honest. He’d lied to you because he didn’t want to freak you out, to cause you to end things before they’d really begun. But if he scared off Blair he wasn’t sure it would be the end of the world.
“Honestly, I’m still working through some stuff. It took me a long time to admit even to myself that I was hurt by what she did. I’m still processing my feelings, and if that’s not what you want to hear I’m sorry. But we were married for a long time and it is still kinda fresh.” He exhaled, took another sip of water.
“People think because they’re the ones who did the terrible thing that you should be glad to be rid of them.” She half-smiled. “As you’ve probably figured out, my ex was abusive and all my friends told me I should be happy to finally be out of that relationship. But they didn’t get it. No one does.
We had so many good times in the early years, he was so wonderful to me and I loved him so much. But then his job started getting on top of him and he started drinking and the alcohol made him angry. For the most part I was relieved that it was over but there’s still a part of me even now that misses him, misses…” she trailed off and swallowed but Spencer knew exactly what she wanted to say.
“You miss what you used to have.” He filled in the blanks. “I understand. Me and my ex had some really good times too and it’s hard to just forget all of that and hate her completely for what she did. She gave me Daisy and Lily and a part of me will always love her for that. People don’t understand though, not unless they’ve been there.”
“Wow,” she smiled a little shakily. “It’s so nice to meet someone who gets it.”
“It really is.” He agreed with his own smile.
Spencer had in one capacity or another felt misunderstood his entire life. But the way Blair was looking at him made him feel seen for the first time.
It allowed him to loosen up, to relax enough to enjoy his evening. He’d only ever wanted someone to understand and he felt like he finally found that in Blair.
***
Luke Alvez leant against the kitchen counter, pinching the bridge of his nose with his eyes closed.
The sound of the two girls was more than enough, he didn’t need to witness what was going on as well.
Penelope had been gone for twenty minutes to shower and in that time, all hell seemed to have broken loose.
When she emerged from the bedroom, dressed in her brightly coloured pyjama bottoms and matching tank top, she froze in the doorway at the scene in front of her.
Roxy was hiding away in the corner whilst Taco was being held rather precariously under Lily’s arm. She was spinning the poor dog around in circles, jumping up and down on Luke’s couch and scream-singing at the top of her lungs.
Daisy had her head in her phone, narrowly avoiding Lily jumping on her and Garcia could see the anger rising on the older girl's face.
She looked over at Luke in the open plan kitchen and his closed eyes before storming towards him.
“I was gone for twenty minutes!” She slapped his bicep. “What did you do?”
“Me?” He opened his eyes and looked at his girlfriend. “I did nothing!”
“Uncle Luke made hot cocoa!” Lily screeched.
“Did he now?” Penelope frowned at him. “And how much sugar exactly did you put in it?”
“Lots of sugar!” Lily squealed again.
“I swear to god Lily if you hit me one more time!” Daisy spat her at her sister, looking up from her phone.
“Daisy’s texting a boy!” Lily giggled.
Honestly, Taco had the patience of a saint because he didn’t seem at all disturbed by being bounced around the way he was.
“I am not! Shut up!” Daisy growled.
“Are too!” Lily replied, jumping off the couch and landing on the floor. “Daisy and Cameron sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G!”
“Shut up you brat!” Daisy tossed her phone aside and got up, advancing on her sister.
Luke suddenly jumped into action and crossed the room in barely three strides.
“Whoa!” He lightly placed his hand on Daisy’s shoulder. “Please don’t hurt your sister.”
“She’s being a bitch!” Daisy huffed.
“Hey now,” Penelope hurried over. “You do not use language like that.”
“All my friends say it.” She rolled her eyes, crossing her arms over her chest.
“Daddy says it too!” Lily chimed in, thankfully putting Taco down and he scurried over to Roxy. “I heard him call mommy a bitch. What does it mean?”
“It means-”
“Nothing.” Luke cut Daisy off. “It doesn’t mean anything. But we shouldn’t be saying it ok? It’s an adult word.”
“Ok!” Lily shrugged, going back to jumping up and down. “I’m a rabbit!”
“No you’re not you’re a bit-”
“Do not finish that sentence young lady.” Penelope snapped. She hated being strict but Luke was such a softy she often had to be the bad guy. “Girls enough of this. Daisy, you will not call your sister that word. In fact you will not call anyone that word. And Lily, if your sister is texting a boy leave her to it. She’s fourteen, she’s allowed to text a boy. I think. Does your dad know you’re texting a boy?”
“Dads met him.” She shrugged, not exactly answering the question. “And he’s on a date with Blair, Cam’s mom right now.”
“He’s…he’s…” she turned to Luke who was trying to shrink away. “You said he was out with JJ and Will?”
“Uh…” Luke grabbed her hand and led her towards the kitchen. “He told me not to tell anyone.”
“Even me?” She tried to keep her tone quiet. “How does Daisy know and I didn’t?”
“She’s Reid’s kid, she’s as smart as a whip.” Luke whispered.
“I thought he was…is he incapable of being single?”
“I don’t know what’s going on with him to be honest. I’m kinda worried about him.” Luke admitted.
“Me too.” Penelope pouted.
“Give it back, you bitch!” Daisy yelled, garnering their attention.
“Daisy and Cameron sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N…OW!” Lily screamed.
Penelope and Luke ran back into the room to find Lily on the floor, violently sobbing and Daisy standing over her with a slightly smug look on her face.
“What did you do?” Garcia asked the older girl while Luke picked Lily up in his arms and cradled her.
“She took my phone!” Daisy stamped her foot.
“She pushed me!” Lily wailed.
“It’s ok sweetheart, it’s ok. Let’s lie down.” Luke cooed as he carried her through to his guest room.
“You do not push your sister, Daisy. You know that.” Penelope sighed.
“She’s just such a bitch!”
“For the love of all that is sparkly you have to stop saying that word.” Garcia groaned. “You get a time out, come on.”
She took Daisy’s wrist in her hand and led her to Luke’s bedroom. She opened the door and motioned her inside.
“Phone,” she held out her hand.
“No way.” Daisy scoffed.
“Daisy Diana Reid, give me your phone right now before I call your father.” Penelope growled at the young girl.
Daisy pulled a face, similar to her dad when he was upset. She let out a breath and placed the device in Penelope’s hand.
“Thank you. Now go sit down and think about what you did.” Garcia closed the door on Daisy and padded back to the couch where she flopped down.
Luke emerged from the guest room a few minutes later alone and joined her.
“I know we’ve only just started dating but can I say I don’t think I ever want kids.” He ran his fingers through his hair.
“Right now I’m gonna have to agree with you.” Penelope nodded.
Luke closed his eyes and took a moment to relish the quiet. But it was very short lived as soon there was a gagging sound coming from the corner of the room.
Both of them looked over just in time to see Taco, the previous activities having caught up on him, vomit all over the carpet.
“I’ll get the cleaning supplies.” Penelope sighed loudly, getting back to her feet.
“I’ll call Reid.”
***
“I had a really great time tonight.” Sam glanced at you with a smile as you walked side by side down the street towards your apartment.
“I did too.” You nodded.
And it was true, you really did have a wonderful time with Sam. Conversation had flowed easily between the two of you, like it had back in college.
So you didn’t have quite the same level of intellectual debate as you did with Spencer. At least Sam was your own age, even if that didn’t necessarily mean you had more in common.
He walked you to your door like a gentleman and you turned to face him on the street. He was smiling down at you, eyes sparkling.
“Would I completely blow my chances of a second date if I kissed you?” He asked somewhat shyly.
“I’d say it would greatly increase your chances of a second date if you were to kiss me.” You smiled.
“Oh thank god.” He chuckled, his nerves melting away.
He stepped closer to you and cupped your face before drawing you in for a tender kiss. It was nice. But it was missing the kind of passion you had with Spencer.
It wasn’t frantic and demanding like Spencer's kisses. It didn’t make your knees buckle or the air leave your lungs.
It was nice. But it wasn’t the same.
Sam pulled back and he was smiling brightly at you, you tried your best to return it.
“I have waited so long to do that.” He laughed.
“I hope it was worth the wait.”
“Most definitely.”
You looked over your shoulder at your building before looking back at him, knowing what you were about to say was an utterly stupid idea. But you said it nonetheless.
“My roommates are out. Do you wanna come inside?”
It didn’t take someone with Spencer’s IQ to figure out what you meant and judging by the look on Sam’s face he knew exactly what you were getting at.
“I would love that. But are you sure?”
In response you simply took hold of his hand and led him up the stairs of your building. You were determined to get Spencer out of your head no matter the cost.
***
After dinner, Spencer held the door of the restaurant open for Blair to exit first and she thanked him with a smile.
They stepped out onto the street and she turned to him.
“I never do this.” She laughed lightly. “I never go on dates.”
“Yeah,” he rolled his lips between his teeth, remembering telling you the same.
“Say, I don’t want to be too forward but I’ve been single a long time so I’m just going to go for it. I would really like to kiss you.” She blushed at her own words and Spencer thought it was incredibly endearing.
“I would also very much like to kiss you.” He agreed, moving closer and cupping her face.
He kissed her and she melted against him, gasping a little at the sensation in which Spencer took the initiative to guide his tongue into her mouth.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him close while he deepened the kiss. And he tried not to think about you.
By the time the kiss broke they were both panting slightly and she was smiling at him, eyes sparkling.
“My kids are staying with their uncle tonight,” he blurted out. “So I have a free house. If it’s not too bold of me to say.”
“It is kind of bold.” She laughed. “But I like it.”
He smiled and kissed her again, hoping if he took her home he would banish all thoughts of you aside. But as he kissed her, his phone started to ring.
He pulled back reluctantly and offered Blair an apologetic smile, pulling the device from his pocket and seeing Luke’s name on the screen.
“Sorry I should get this, it could be about my girls.”
“Of course, go ahead.” She nodded and Spencer took a few steps away before answering the phone.
“Is everything ok?” He instantly went into panic mode.
“Uh, not exactly.” Luke sighed. “Lily was hopped up on sugar and annoying Daisy. Daisy kept calling her a…b-i-t-c-h and then she pushed Lily and now Lily won’t stop crying. And your dog was sick everywhere.”
Spencer exhaled sharply, closing his eyes as he let the information wash over him.
“I’ll be right there.” He grumbled.
“Sorry man. We tried.”
“See you soon.” Spencer sighed again, hanging up the phone, moving back towards Blair. “I’m so sorry, my kids have gone rogue. Can we have a rain check?”
“Sure and don’t worry about it. One’s hard enough as a single parent, I can’t imagine having two.”
“It’s like having one, only ten times as hard.” He laughed dryly. “I’ll call you.”
He leaned in and placed a chaste kiss on her cheek and watched as she headed down the street to hail a cab. Soon he was turning in the opposite direction and speed walking towards his car.
Was it too much to ask just to have one night to himself? He loved his girls, more than anything else in the world, but sometimes they made his life harder than he ever could have prepared for.

Now hear me Out... The techno's reactions to us being like a single parent or something before Meeting them? And possibly Meeting the child?
Bad idea or Not?
Techno x singlemom!Reader
Drabble
Techno wouldn’t care. He’d love your kid just as much as he loved you, they are simply an extension of you. Techno would be there for anything you needed, babysitting, dentists appointments for the kid. You remember that one time where you were stuck at work and there’d been an incident at school, he was the first one you called, he rushed over and set things straight instantly defending your child.
You came home to him playing with, let’s say your son, Apollo. Techno making aeroplane noises as his large hand moved the toy plane around in the air while your six year old son giggled loudly and excitedly.
Your heart was warmed and you felt your eyes stinging with tears at the sight. When you first met Techno you had tried hard to avoid him, not wanting to date anyone since the let down of Apollo’s father. When he left due to you getting pregnant it was a giant kick to your self esteem. You hadn’t felt worth it anymore and honestly not the most attractive either.
So when Techno persued you, you almost couldn’t believe it. Even when you had rejected him out of fear, he continued to court you coming into the diner where you worked and watching you with a smile while you served others. All he thought about was persuading you to quit so you’d never have to serve other people again. He had more than enough money to support you if you’d simply let him.
Finally, after a few months of him flashing his gorgeous pearly whites at you and making you feel all giddy with the sweet nicknames and phrases he spouted with that monotonous voice of his, you relented and let him take you on a date. You were shy and a bit withdrawn still, fussing over yourself and worrying about how you looked.
He eased them, ‘you look ravishing darlin’, it made butterflies erupt in your stomach, and your fussing ceased. He took you to a nice restaurant, wining and dining you like he had been promising he would. The whole night was actually going well and he’d managed to get you to relax enough to enjoy yourself until the babysitter called saying she had an emergency and she had to leave as soon as possible.
You obviously started rushing away, apologising profusely as you did. Techno chucked some money on the table and ran after you. He caught up to you and offered you to drive you home, after not being able to hail a cab you relented, he was your ride after all. The drive home was tense, you were so scared to tell him about your son not that you were embarrassed by him, not at all. You knew you’d done a good job raising him, but you knew the stigma around single moms and from past experiences when guys had asked you out only to back out when they’d found out you had a kid.
You didn’t want it to happen again, not after the lovely evening you had had and particularly not after the feelings that were growing for the man driving you home tonight.
You’d arrived, thanking him sufficiently with a kiss on the cheek for good measure before exiting the car rather quickly. You were so busy running away that you completely missed Techno’s worried expression, his softened eyes, and him getting out of the car to follow you.
As you unlocked the door, Sophia was pulling on her coat with a sad look on her face. “Do you have to go? We haven’t done story time yet!” Apollo whined.
“How about doing it with me buddy?” You smiled as your son’s eyes lit up at the sight of you home early, a rare occasion when you were working indeed.
“Mommy!” He squealed happily running into your arms. He hugged you tightly as you kissed his cheek. “Who’s that?” Apollo’s question had you turning around to see Techno staring down at you from where you were crouched.
“Sorry I just wanted to make sure you were okay.” He apologised, smiling softly at the little boy who gave him a small wave.
That was around four month ago, since then your relationship with Techno had evolved and his bond with Apollo had grown so much. You never thought you’d have this, this safety net, this love. And yet as you watched Techno play aeroplanes with Apollo all you felt was love.

WIP #18: Loose Ends Tied Up In A Bow "Holy moly..."
Billy Batson was a boy who had seen wonders beyond the minds and imaginations of man. From monsters to the mythical and magical, Billy was accustomed to the strange nature of the universe and participated in being an active part of it.
He'd been to the depths of hell and farthest corners of space, experiencing what many could only dream of as a superhero. However, nothing could ever beat the pure joy of a childlike sense of wonder when experiencing something new.
Nothing could beat a cool-looking train.
"Billy! If you stop staring at the train, you might be able to get on it with the rest of us this century." Billy's sister, Mary, shouted at him, with a drawn-out yawn from the check-in entrance. She may have sounded irritated, but she was just as excited for this trip as Billy, if not more. Neither of them had gotten any sleep last night, staying up late thinking about their first family vacation together. They'd planned all the things they'd do together and all the sights they would see, the only thing the both of them didn't plan for was sleep.
Mary was not unfamiliar with the age-old tradition of traveling for vacations with family, but for Billy, this would be his first time ever leaving Fawcett that wasn't related to Captain Marvel or Justice League business. This would be his first time just...relaxing, with his new family, the Bromfields.
Naturally, Billy was hesitant at first, but with Freddy promising to look after Fawcett in their absence, sorting out any potential problems with the League, and most of their major rogues locked up in prisons at the present, Billy was eventually convinced to take some time off. Billy believed he was bullied into it by Mary and Freddy, but he wasn't too upset about it in the end.
What could go wrong on a train anyway?
Stopping his admiration of the cool train in front of him, Billy gleefully sprinted back to his family. Mr. Bromfield ruffled his hair the moment he got close and reeled him into a side hug, trapping him in his arms.
"Aha! There we go, Nora, I think we're all here now. Our boy's not getting left behind like some cheesy "Home Alone" sequel. Lord knows we don't need more of those movies going around." Nick Bromfield chuckled. The dad humor was something Billy was trying to get used to.
"Oh, Nick. Let the poor boy go, his hair is all a mess now. Here, give him to me." Nora Bromfield coerced her husband into setting Billy free, but upon the taste of freedom, he was just met with another trap which was Nora Bromfield "fixing" his hair. She cupped his face and pushed his hair back with a comb, straightening it out. Billy once again struggled to escape the arms of a loving parent, but ultimately let Nora comb his hair in defeat.
He never knew having loving parents could be such a hassle.
Mary did, apparently, as Billy heard her laughing at his misery. His face flushed red over feeling so fussed over. Suddenly, Billy felt a devious little idea pop into his head.
"Uhh, hey, Mrs. B, I think Mary's hair needs some help, too. You know, the hair she's hiding under her hat because she didn't want to tell you her hair was bad today?"
"Oh! Thank you, Billy. I need to get on that. Mary! Come here, let me clean up your hair real quickly. No, a hat is no excuse to be lazy about your hair. Come here- no don't hide behind your brother! Remember, we're sleeping in the same cabin. You can't run from your mom!" Mary zig-zagged away from her mother's comb in her hands, glaring at Billy with an expression that could make Medusa shake. Clearly, neither of the twins liked being fussed over, almost like cats who hated baths. Billy couldn't help but laugh in return.
While Nick Bromfield sorted out the check-in line for them, Nora Bromfield got to embarrassing her kids in front of everyone else around the train station. Multi-tasking parents. You can't get any better than that.
The Bromfield family were so busy smiling and enjoying their time together, that none of them had even realized they were being watched by a pair of glaring eyes. Eyes that would follow them on the train soon after.

Crackpot,Sanford and doc meeting player's parent/parents?
Meeting Player's Parents!
--
Doc:
Doc is probably the most prepared for the meeting with your personal folks. If he can convince a pissed off group of members from the Vindevice to appeal to his ideals, then your parents should be no problem to win over. Seeing as they aren't inherently violent people, unlike everyone in the realm of Nevada.
Upon meeting your parents, he's surprised to see how they accepted him into the home and how your dad gives him a big ole hug, much to his shock and surprise. Meanwhile, your mother greets him politely before happily fussing over their 'lil baby' to which the Player blushes and says a slow and quiet "moooom stop, you're embarrassing me..." in response.
The group prepares for dinner and Doc is not against helping your folks set the table and get ready to eat. To which your mom calls him a 'gentleman' before nudging the Player in the arm, making said Player facepalm and look away with a growing blush.
Dinner was surprisingly amazing, with Doc simply sitting there while the poor Player had to endure their parents talking about how cute they were when they were a baby, and eeeeverything under the sun they wanted to share. Especially if it was a "cute but embarrassing" story. The Player wanted nothing more than to curl up in a hole a die while 2Bdamned merely laughs and chuckles along with your parents.
At the end of the night, your parents are sad to see you both go before giving you two a pair of tight hugs. Doc even heard the mother simply say something along the lines of "he's a keeper" before the Player shouts out "MOM!" and the pair merely laugh at your expense while 2B merely observes. Humans are so jovial in comparison to Nevadeans, it's almost jarring for Doc. But, it's nothing short of refreshing.
Besides, he can see why so many Nevadeans fell for you, there's a little bit of your parents inside of you and if they were lovely people, so were you.
Sanford:Sanford was a little bit more nervous to meet your parents than he let on. He did his best to clean up and look as spiffy as he could, without being too formal, and when the moment arrived he was tense. The door to your parent home is opened and Sanford is faced with your father, who looks just as stern as he did. A moment of silence passes before he notices his baby and coos at you before giving you a big hug in response. Your mother even hurries to the door, squeezed by her husband, and wraps you up in an embrace. She then pauses when she sees Sanford, in all of his shirtless glory, and she just stares. You snap her out of it by saying "Mooooom, stop oogling Sanford's chest!" to which she blushes and laughs lightly before slipping back into the house and by her husband that has his hands on his hips as she passes by. You help with dinner while a little buzzing sense of worry flutters about in your mind while your father and Sanford sit in the living room. Your father had told you to get them some beers and some time alone for a little bit. Which was worrying. Maybe your father didn't approve of Sanford or maybe something else? However, a little longer into your cooking, you heard both your father and Sanford letting out bellows of laughter from the other room. Upon looking around the corner, you see them slamming two beer cans together before chugging them down. It made you smile to know that they were actually getting along. At dinner, your dad and Sanford were as tight as drinking buddies as they told each other about various stuff and joked about things. Sanford even seemed to have a soft spot for dad jokes. You and your mother were just happy that the pair was getting along and seemed to have lots of common ground, yet you gave your mom lots of side-eyes since she seemed to be fixated on Sanford a little bit...too much. Nudging her when you swore she was drooling a little bit. He's YOUR boyfriend, damn it! At the end of the night, by that I mean it was nearly midnight, you two were stuck between deciding to take the long drive home or temporarily spend the night. Upon asking Sanford "Would you like to stay tonight?" you are both surprised by the sound of your mom shouting out from the house "WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAY FOREVER??" and you can only shout back a "MOM!!" while Sanford laughs loudly in response. Crackpot:You were the one that was actually nervous to meet your parents. Mostly since Crackpot was definitely a...strange case. You had no idea if they would approve of him and how he would react to them as well. You could only hope that everything goes well while you both visit for dinner. You simply told Crackpot to just try to keep his yap shut until this evening was over with. To which he, with a lot of reluctance, obliged. Upon arriving and your parents answering the door, you can tell that both of them were put off by Crackpot's appearance. So much so that when you both were welcomed into the house, your mother quickly pulled you aside and asked "what's with the duck mask??" to which you could only just say "it's his comfort item and no...he won't take it off".
Your father was immediately not impressed with your choice of men. As he kept giving Crackpot side glares and disapproving looks. You can only clench your teeth as Crackpot seemed to return the looks and you can only hope that it doesn't escalate into something much more...unpleasant. You know how your father is and if he was already giving the guy you're with glares, getting approval for anything else was going to be hell.
At dinner, the tensions continued to persist as you all silently ate at the dinner table. Even your mother could feel the tension radiating off the two, even while they were sitting across from one another. So your mother decides to break the ice with a "Sooo...what do you do for work?" and you would cut in before Crackpot could speak up for himself. "Actually, he's a scientist! He does...advanced biology and stem cell research!" You hurry to explain as you can see Crackpot give you a side glance of uncertainty. To which, your folks seem to slowly change their tune and begin to ask him questions. To which, with a few under-the-table kicks here and there, he managed to steadily dance his way through the maze that was your parents' judgment.
At the end of the night, you both began to say your goodbyes and head out toward the car. To which your parents happily waved you both off as you drove away to go back to your abode. Once home, you two both sat down on the couch in exhaustion. Crackpot was the first to speak. "Let's never do that again." to which you reply with a simple "Yep.".

Okay so I've had this idea for ages and I need to inflict someone else with my brainworms lol
Could you please write something about Gordie and Leon with a really short s/o (I'm only like 5 feet / 159 cm at MOST) who they catch wearing their clothes? And since their s/o is so short compared to them their clothes just like come down to their knees and barely fit over their shoulders? I need to see my boys flustered. Also if you wanted to make this spicy I'm not gonna say no, but it's certainly not a requirement.
Have a wonderful day hun, drink lots of water! Stay safe! ❤️

Gordie x Reader, Leon x Reader
Headcanons
Author's note- Ahhh I like this idea. I hope I can portray being small properly as I am quite tall myself.
LEON-
♡ When Leon saw you come downstairs in his cape he was all smiles
♡ Half of it was on the floor and was falling off your shoulders, but he still thought you looked adorable
♡ You were just going to grab some water when he scooped you up and put you on the couch next to him
♡ While you weren't sure why he was being so soft, the random affection definitely wasn't unwelcome
♡ You two ended up watching some dumb kids movies until you fell asleep
♡ When Leon noticed, he scooped you up and took you to your bedroom and tucked you in
♡ He placed a kiss on your forehead
♡ "Goodnight, my darling champion"
GORDIE-
♡ Melony was over for afternoon tea and was talking to Gordie at the kitchen table when you came out from taking a shower
♡ You were wearing one of his jerseys AND his shades because you had to complete the look, obviously
♡ The jersey came down to your knees and the shades kept falling off because Gordie's head is huge so you had to fold them inside the neckline of his shirt
♡ Gordie was up making more tea when you walked into the kitchen to say hi to Melony
♡ When she saw your attire her heart melted and she squealed like a little girl at cute you looked
♡ Gordie turned around to see what the fuss was about and turned back around almost immediately, blushing
♡ " Ah doesn't she look cute Gordie! I never thought I would see the day where my son loves someone enough to let them wear his clothes.".
♡ He was embarrassed at his mom's overreaction, but he did agree that you looked adorable. He made sure to tell you that later though
End notes- Wanted to say that I think Leon is like 6ft and Gordie is 5'10 for reference

A Behind the Scenes of: The Kids Going to College
Jonathan gives insight into the younger members of the party moving out of town and to college.
On AO3.
Ships: jargancy, steddie, byler, elumax
Warnings: minor homophobia mention
~~~~~~~~~~
Jonathan starts out the video like usual, however he still looks a little pale as he says: “Hi, I’m Jonathan Byers, the main photographer and editor of A Collection of Queer Photography. Today I’m giving you a behind the scene look of the kids moving to college.”
“Thanks to everyone wishing me the best, but I assure you I’m better now. Argyle has finally cleared me from bed rest,” Jonathan thanks the audience a little awkwardly yet genuine.
“But nothing to strenuous yet,” Argyle speaks up from behind the camera, like always. “I’m keeping an eye on you, baby boy.”
“I know, I’ll take it easy,” Jonathan promises with a soft smile. Then he flips open the book and says: “These are all from ‘89, just after the kids – minus Erica – graduated and most of them moved out of Hawkins as well and most went off to college.”
“We set aside 4 pages for this,” Jonathan explains. “Page 46 is of Eddie, Robin and Steve moving to Boston, while they drove Dustin to Pennsylvania. Then page 47 is of me, Argyle and Nancy road tripping with Mike and Will to Cali to drop them off at college. While is for Jane who stayed behind and page 49 is for Lucas and Max, who stayed close to her. We kind of sectioned it of to create story bubbles that are still connected.”
“So, let’s start with page 47, which has three photos on it. We first have the two that are packing up, then underneath the driving away. Starting with Bound for Boston,” Jonathan introduces.
The first photo that appears on screen is of Eddie, Robin and Steve, who are carrying boxes into the back of the van and Steve’s BMW. It’s clearly summer with the bright sky and their short clothes. Eddie has his hair tied up under his bandanna and Steve has ditched the shirt. Robin just put a box in the van and is wiping the sweat of her brow.
“We were all packing up and helping each other out. I love how casual this photo is. They’re so comfortable around each other and that oozes off this photo. It’s also very much a teenage dirtbag, youngsters getting out of town photo, which is exactly what this was for them,” Jonathan says.
He goes on to explain: “Out of the three of them, only Robs went to college. For Eddie and Steve, Boston was an escape. Eddie was never wanted by the people in Hawkins, always an outsider. He wanted to leave since he got there. Steve was more disowned by the town, reputation slowly disintegrating until there was nothing holding him there and only things pulling him away. Robin also wanted to go for a long time. Lesbian in a small town, never a good combo. I feel like part of that energy is captured in this photo. That refusal to bend to acceptance and just be comfortable together as they pack up to go.”
“I probably read too much into these things,” Jonathan chuckles, a bit embarrassed. “But for me photography is storytelling, these are the stories I see.”
“Anyway,” Jonathan clears his throat. “The one next to it is Leaving Home of Dustin saying goodbye to his mom. He belonged with Steve and Eddie on a page, the two are like his brothers and Robin also took a shine to him.”
The photo is indeed of Dustin hugging his mom, by his feet is his last bag. In the background you can see Eddie, Robin and Steve leaning against the BMW, the van next to it. They all look a little wistful at the goodbye.
“Dustin’s mom can be a little overbearing, though she does it with love,” Jonathan informs the audience. “However, the real story in this photo is how wistful the three in the background look. Of course, Eddie has Wayne and mom and dad also play a big role in their lives. But none of their mothers are there to hug them goodbye and fuss over their well being now that they’re leaving home.”
“It’s a sad moment, but a happy moment,” Jonathan comments. “I love capturing those emotions alongside each other in a photo, it translates really nicely.”
“Then underneath it is the actual going away: Driving East,” Jonathan says.
Driving East is of the BMW, van behind it, both ready to drive off. Everyone is there to wave at the two. Robin is behind the wheel of the BMW, Steve is hanging out of the window waving. In the van Eddie is driving with Dustin doing the same as Steve.
Jonathan laughs: “Eddie was so offended Steve was riding with Robin instead of him. He totally knew it was coming, but he pouted about it anyway. Don’t get me wrong, he loves spending time with Dustin, both of them do. I think he just had daydreams of driving off into the sunset with Steve by his side.”
“What I love about this photo is that it feel like a victory lap,” Jonathan says. “Sure, they’re just driving off, but there is this excitement to all of them. Like they’re finally breaking free. Like something has finally let them go.”
Then he is quiet for a second, just looking at the photo. Privately, Jonathan knows that what he has just said is exactly what happened. Eddie and Robin both stayed behind for Steve and Steve could not go until he had gotten the kids out of there safely. This was quite literally a victory march, they made it out of Hawkins alive. All of them. That is something to be celebrated.
He shakes the thoughts off and smiles at the camera again as he introduces: “On the next page it’s our road trip, starting with Roadside Sleepiness.”
The photo is of Mike and Will, both asleep curled into one another in the back of a car. There are boxes to be seen behind them.
“I love the movie feel of this photo. It’s such a classic coming of age moment, but then made queer and if you’ve watched other videos, you know I love making things queer in my photography,” Jonathan smiles.
“Filling the Tank is the next one and I took that moments after Roadside Sleepiness. You can still see the two in the background sleeping,” Jonathan points out.
The photo is of Argyle filling the tank, he is smiling as he pumps gas, looking very casual. Nancy is checking a map next to him and Mike and Will are vaguely made out through the window.
“I love watching Argyle and Nancy organizing stuff and being adults,” Jonathan confesses, blushing lightly. “I’ve kind of had to be responsible for a lot since I was young, so getting to sit back and watch them is really nice.”
“You’ll never have to organize anything else again, if we have anything to say about it, buttercup,” Argyle promises from behind the camera, making Jonathan’s blush deepen as he ducks his head, small smile playing on his lips.
“Thanks, Argyle,” he softly replies.
There’s a quiet beat, before Jonathan goes back to talking like nothing happened. One plus side to being an awkward person, is that you get really good at going on after an awkward moment has occurred.
“I struggled a lot with putting in photos of us,” Jonathan confesses. “I documented a lot of our private life. They’re my most photographed subjects, but I’d look at the photos and be scared they’d be perceived as straight, which is ridiculous, I know. But still, a lot of the photos of Argyle and Nancy will have one of them looking at the camera. An extra touch of queer.”
It is a conversation, he’d had with Argyle and Nancy many times over, so Argyle doesn’t comment on it. Those conversations are private.
Jonathan lightens the mood: “Luckily, my partners love me very much and like looking my way, so I have plenty of photos of them looking at me.”
Then he flips the page and continues on: “Now Jane stayed behind in Hawkins with mom, dad and Erica, who was still in high school. She has never been a school kid and college was about as unappealing as anything. She loves working with her hands. She’s been the secretary at their vet’s office for decades now, but they have all these houseplants she cares for. She also knits, crochets, carves wood and makes jewelry. Very hands on person. Her love for all that started with that time in Hawkins when she worked all sorts of jobs. I feel like I captured that in Lawn of Town Hall.”
Lawn of Town Hall is of El, she is in a pair of overalls and a soft looking shirt as she mows the lawn in front of an important looking building. She doesn’t seem very affected by the hard work, smiling as she pushes the machine.
“Jane is such a sweetheart and she can be such a lesbian in her dress sense,” Jonathan smiles fondly. “I really love this photo of her.”
“Now page 49 is Max and Lucas moving away, like I said before, they didn’t want to move too far away from Jane or Erica,” Jonathan says. “It was very sweet of them and I’m very grateful they didn’t leave her behind like that. So, they went to Indiana University.”
“Like page 46 it has three photos. Two of them each packing up and then one of them saying goodbye to Hawkins. It creates a story and I love a good story,” Jonathan explains. “The first one is Getting Older.”
The photo that appears on screen is of Lucas, packing a box. Erica is sitting next to him on the bed, holding an action figure dejectedly. The camera has captured the moment, Lucas reaches out to place a hand on her knee, a reassuring smile starting to form on his face.
“I love this moment, because it is a moment. Erica and Lucas can be antagonistic and squabble all the time, but they love each other and when Lucas had to move out, both missed each other fiercely,” Jonathan says.
“That action figure is the one Erica used to steal to marry her barbie,” Jonathan points out. “Lucas loved that action figure, but he gave it to her instead of packing it up like he was planning to. If you’ve seen her office promotional videos, the action figure is in the background.”
“The next one is Packing Up when we helped Max pack for college,” Jonathan introduces.
It is of Max taping a box shut, El is seen in the background folding shirts to put in another box, which isn’t closed yet. The two girls aren’t looking at each other, but seem to be working in companionable silence.
“I love the domesticity of this photo. They’re not even interacting and yet you can see how well they work together – literally – and how comfortable they are in each other’s presence,” Jonathan says. “Sometimes the moments where people just exist together say the most.”
“Then the last one is A Kiss Goodbye, from when Max and Lucas left. We left last, but we wanted to have Jane on the same pages as Max and Lucas, so we switched our departures around in the book. We all left in the same four days, so it’s not too warped,” Jonathan explains.
A Kiss Goodbye is taken of the front of a car not yet seen before. Lucas is behind the wheel, smiling softly towards the passenger seat where Max is seated. Max is kissing El, who is leaning through the window.
“That’s Lucas’s car,” Jonathan says. “He bought it with help from his parents as a graduation gift with money he saved up from doing odd jobs in town. He was Jane’s reference into most of her jobs that first summer. Max isn’t allowed to drive and Jane was scared to – she got her diver’s license when she was 31 – so Lucas has been their chauffeur for most their life. He loved that car.”
“I really love the relationship dynamic in this photo,” Jonathan tells the camera. “Lucas has always been very fond of Jane too and the biggest supporter of the relationship between her and Max. That is so important in polyam relationships and I love capturing it.”
“Anyway, that was the behind the scenes of the kids moving to college. Hope you enjoyed it and that it was interesting,” Jonathan signs off. “Bye!”
OC asks:
Rachel - 1 Rietta - 2 Declis - 8 Amarantha - 9 Elystan - 10 Tamett - 15 Josiah - 20
Rachel: What kind of person is your OC in a crisis? Are they calm and collected? Do they panic? Or are they chronically the cause?
Rachel is very nervous and prone to panicking but can be surprisingly proactive in a crisis. In Book 1 Chapter One, she and her little sister accidentally are left on their own in a large unfamiliar city and have to find their way to the train station, and she's a mess inside but manages to take charge and stay strong for her already scared sister. She's braver and more capable than she realizes.
Rietta: Is your OC a loner or a social butterfly? Are they satisfied with how they come across to other people?
Rietta is a social butterfly whom circumstances have forced to live as a loner, and she hates it. She loves people, she wants to make friends with almost everyone, and she acts as if she doesn't realize it when she gets rejected. She does. And it hurts.
She tends not to overthink how she comes across to people, but she has often regretted specific interactions after she's said or done something without thinking.
Delclis: What was your OC's most embarrassing moment? Does it still bother them or are they able to shrug it off?
He once fell asleep in the middle of a meeting with a lot of very important political people and even snored loudly in the middle of someone's speech, and ended up offending multiple people with this rudeness. This incident does bother him, not so much because he cares about the faux pas, but because all the fuss with trying to smooth over the incident was more than he wanted to deal with, and now he has to put more effort into not repeating this mistake.
Amarantha: Is your OC laid back or do they thrive on drama? What role do they play in their group of friends/associates?
Amarantha has never been laidback a day in her life. Everything is Serious Business. She may not necessarily create drama, but she is more than ready to react to it at any time. Among her friends, she would like to think of herself as the Voice of Reason, the Sensible One who knows what to do. A mom friend, but the kind of mom who's always lecturing you.
Elystan: Is your OC sentimental or pragmatic? Do they keep mementos or only what they need to survive? Have they always been this way or did something happen to make them change?
He is not sentimental at all, except when he is, and then he'll do everything he can to disguise it as pragmatism. He does very much keep mementos; things like the silver cigarette case that his father gave him when he was ten and Talfrin taught him how to smoke (...for medicinal purposes, long story) are very important to him. This trait has really only emerged since all the events surrounding his father's banishment, treason, and execution, and also after Edmara stops working for him. He had never really lost anything before then.
Tamett: What places hold significant meaning or memories for your OC? Do they have a positive or negative association with those places?
He has a very normal attachment to his home and the surrounding outdoors, which is associated with the times he's allowed to see his family and have some freedom. And, like every child in the royal household of Lienne, he has a dread of Odren's study, which is where you're called to whenever you've done something Out Of Line. It's not an inherently fearsome room--eerily over-orderly and pristine, perhaps, but not scary--but the severe scoldings dished out there give it the worst possible associations.
Josiah: Has your OC ever done something terrible and lied about it? Did they run away or blame someone else for it? How long did they maintain the lie and did the truth ever come out?
He managed to find a way to avoid going to lessons for anything athletic and somehow cover it up--for quite a long time. The lies were exposed when his father wanted him to display his fencing skills at a social event with a lot of important people and he made a fool of himself (and by extension his father) very publicly. Odren was furious, and that's why Josiah got shipped off to boarding school a year early.
CW: this is 1000% self indulgent and is a selfship post so feel free to skip over it if it's not your cup of tea or you just don't care about my selfship. Also it's about Mother's Day so if that's a sensitive subject for you, it's okay to pass this one by for that reason as well. And it mentions pregnancy but it's really sort of brief little mentions. (In fact I really don't expect most people to read my selfship stuff anyway but here we are.)
Tumblr media
Reiner was not going to let Mother’s Day pass (although I was heavily pregnant at the time) without us celebrating for the first time. He had jokingly bought me bouquets before this saying that I was a mom to our cat, the stray that had followed Reiner home one too many times, but this time was different. This year I was on the precipice of being a mother to our first child and there was no way Reiner Braun was going to let the holiday pass without making a fuss over me.
It didn’t matter how much I protested about it. We were going to celebrate. The day started with a delivery from the local florist. The bouquet wasn’t as large as some of the arrangements Reiner had brought home for me but it was still beautiful and he pointed out that he picked out every type of flower that went into it. He had read some things online about the language of flowers so he picked each flower out for its meaning. And then he told me that wasn’t going to be the last gift I received that day.
We took his mother out for brunch a bit later that day and gave her a nice little gift. Much to Reiner’s chagrin, Karina talked incessantly about when she was pregnant with Reiner but she did throw in the occasional jab towards me, something her son didn’t miss. More than once he had to remind his mother that she was going a little too far and on the ride home, he apologized more times than I could count but he promised that the rest of the day was going to be special. I didn’t mind because I knew his mother didn’t hate me. She just thought that Reiner and I were moving “too fast” and she blamed me for it. (It was something she would get over at least.)
That afternoon he and I had a video chat with my mom, which went really well. She offered some advice about the coming baby and embarrassed me by showing off some of my baby pictures and telling Reiner silly stories about me when I was younger. Reiner, of course, loved it and would ask him to tell her more while I sat there blushing and trying to hide my face as she told each story. My mom even happily showed off the flowers that Reiner had made sure to send her (which I didn’t know about), thanking us both.
When he said there was more, I scolded him but honestly I didn’t hate the idea of being spoiled a little bit. And that was exactly what Reiner did. The next gift he gave me was a charm bracelet that had only a couple of charms on it at that point, telling me that he would get me a new charm every Mother’s Day to add to it. He doted on me pretty consistently as well, rubbing my feet and letting me pick whatever shows or movies I wanted to watch. He wouldn’t let me lift a finger if he could help it, gathering snacks for us and then announcing that he would be making dinner. After we ate, he made sure to set up the bathroom so I could soak in the tub in candlelight while he cleaned up the kitchen.
After the bath, he offered to rub my back which I accepted almost immediately. Before we made it to the bedroom, however, Reiner made sure we stopped at the nursery so he could show me that it was put together exactly how we had talked about doing it, complete with a comfortable looking rocking chair that I hadn’t known he had gotten (my last Mother’s Day gift for the day). We then curled up in bed and he rubbed my lower back, making sure I was comfortable. Even though it was still fairly early, we stayed in bed the rest of the day.
We spent most of the time talking, with both of us admitting some of our fears about becoming parents but both of us reassuring the other that we could more than handle the coming challenges. He also didn’t keep his hands to himself the whole time although most of the touches were fairly innocent (Reiner was still convinced he could hurt me or the baby if we did “too much” in his words) but we did spend more time making out than we had in awhile. Eventually I fell asleep in his arms while he pressed soft kisses along my shoulder, keeping my back firmly pressed against his chest while he whispered promises of my next Mother’s Day being even better than this one.
