inspired by yesterday’s ovechkin-posting and the stick story, because. i had as much fun as anyone with the idea that riding a camel over all-star break is what jostled the goal-scoring back out of him, but at the same time... i am frothing at the fucking mouth about ovi × The League × national hockey media. where is his respect? where is his hype? where are his roses???? please !!!! understand !!!! that i find sidney endearing as a guy and he is undeniably incredible as a player and he deserves the love that he gets. but from day one, ovi has only existed to them in relation to sid and that makes me lose my fucking mind. 

and general hockey fans through the years loved ovi, and then they hated him, and then they said he was an overhyped washed-up old man who doesn't care anymore (starting in like 2013 lmfao). like, I'M sorry, back in the late '00s and early '10s he was being hounded for days about his cellies, and being booed every time he came out on the ice—and you're mad? that he looks like he's lost his love and enthusiasm for the game???? (i cannot for the LIFE of me find the podcast ep where i heard this, so. grain of salt. but a former teammate talked about how startling and upsetting ovi found the booing, bc it was such a sudden change, and meanwhile, ovi was just the same guy he’d always been 😭).

and then, idk, we went through hate again, and then indifference, and now in the 2020s we're back to "oh, his production has dropped so therefore he's overhyped, can’t wait ‘til he’s gone"?? the season ovi was 36 he had more points per game than sid did last year at 36 (90 in 77 vs 94 in 82). or how about. please remind me how many goals gretz scored the season he was 36 (25 goals compared to ovi's 50). or what about when gretz was 38 (9 goals compared to ovi's 31)? i am NOT trying to say that ovi is "better" than either of them—this is just me saying that people are completely irrational about him. like back when he was drafted and people were saying "oh, he's not actually as good as he looks, because he's lying about his age" bc he looked 25 instead of 18. like. okay lmao. and then what? his NINE rocket richards count less bc he started later? he's actually older now and scoring more per game than gordie howe was the first time he retired? like what are we doing here??? i'm not an empty-netters-pod guy, but they talked about it in the first few minutes of this ep; like... yeah, why was everyone so fucking excited to dance on his grave at the start of last season? and then again in the playoffs? he’s NOT DONE YET, and even if he were, i would hope to see a modicum of respect for the player he’s been and the career he’s had! 

the point is. ovi has scored 30+ goals per season every single year since his debut except the pandemic-shortened season. his teammates, current and former, love him and say what an awesome, generous, team-focused guy he is. he has literally dozens of nhl records already, some of them previously belonging to gretzky. and yet! general hockey fans and the league and national hockey media all refuse to take him seriously. and caps fans (mostly) and dc hockey media (mostly) (barry svrlugas i do not forgive you... dan holmi i would just like to have a fucking word with you....) are all just standing here like hello? alexander ovechkin is RIGHT HERE and he is very good at hockey. hello he is GOOD at HOCKEY, can you hear me????? is anyone seeing this, HELLO????

From the outside looking in, I think can speak to how compelling it is to pit Crosby and Ovechkin against each other. As your ESPN article puts it: "Crosby was careful, corporate. Ovechkin was unpredictable, borderline dangerous. The key word was passion, and even though Crosby had it inside, Ovechkin oozed it. He was the anti-Sid, possibly the better player, and soon a cult hero." (x, y) I know you're frustrated by this, but they do sort of exist in relation to each other. Maybe I've fallen for the propaganda, but it's very literary <3 You could write their story down and present it to a novel studies class, and the easiest thread to pull on would be all the ways in which they're each other's narrative foils.

IF you held a gun to my head and made me guess at the 'why' of it, I'd probably agree with Eric Adelson! It really does feel like Crosby's image is who hockey wants to be seen as. A Good Canadian Boy; humble, no conspicuous expressions of his wealth, no partying, and of course no on-ice flash! I think I can understand the backlash somewhat; in such a team-oriented game, one with all these arcane honour codes and the emphasis on humility and respect and not rocking the boat, I could see why the spectacle of Ovechkin's personality would've grated. Crosby's an easier pill to swallow for the conservatism of hockey culture. (And I specified 'image' because there's the reality of what it is to be famous, deified, and torn apart each time you don't quite measure up. I hate to be the guy who says there's another side to this but, like, I'm sure plenty of people who are more familiar with Crosby's story could come out and tell me about the unique challenges that come with being considered The Next One.)

And obviously, your specific frustration is coming from the fact that Ovechkin is, somehow, seen as the inferior superstar, and that his achievements - which either equal or surpass Crosby's - go uncelebrated by mainstream media. and ough. man. I'm not as invested in this as you given I just got here, but your emotion is palpable!! I have... complicated feelings about his whole deal wrt geopolitics I won't lie, but I am serious about the whole "Is it the Russian thing?" I wouldn't, like, submit this as a legal document or anything, and I doubt I'd be the first to point it out, but there has to be a level of Othering that comes from his nationality, right?

So there's my thesis: he's not like them, he's not from there, and his image is not who they want for a star. Being so undeniably good for so long probably bought him some time in their good books, but the moment he looked a little bit mortal any grace they had to give was dispensed with. It sucks for you as a fan of course </3 I don't mean to sound so morbidly curious about it all,,, like i get that a real wrong was done to Ovechkin by the establishment that refused to recognise him!! SPOOKY! Absolutely *loved* the newest chapter of Fours a Franchise-and things are picking up for y/n! Her and relationship with Randy and Karla and the kids so so sweet and I laughed when they talked about Randy introducing the kids to horror movies early😂.

And how Randy complains about the remakes and everything and how that fits in so well with Fours a Franchise and Scream 4. I laughed when Randy complained about the remake of ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ because the actor for Vince Schneider is in that and is who I use as the FC for ‘a little mad sometimes’😂.

(Kinda curious about how Billy feels about all the remakes and reboots 😂)

I was tearing up when she was thinking and then talking with Randy about how she lost her chance when Mark died in front of her.

And how everything she presents (the book deals, the tours, the make up and outfits) is really just a mask and my heart broke for her when she compares her life right now to Randy’s. That she will always be seen as the Final Girl, Suspect, and Killer all wrapped into one😭.

And then the first kill happens and Randy, get Karla and the kids somewhere safe-NOW. And I felt sos cared for y/n and Randy and I knew Randy had the old trauma resurfacing as well because they remember Tatum.

For sure, Randy seems both the least traumatized and the most other than Sidney in Scream 2. It's like he denies it and is terrified so he's cracking jokes at Sid or doing impersonations or having fun guessing suspects....But then when shit starts getting real? He's gripping the stone he's sitting on at the park, making uneasy facial expressions, gets irritated easily with Gale's phonecall and IF THAT BOY WOULDN'T HAVE PUSHED PAST HIS FEAR TO CLAPBACK AT THE KILLER HE'D STILL BE HERE 😭😤 But srsly, it's so obvious he has trauma from everything and he's just as scared as Sid in canon he just copes differently. So I'm so glad I captured him showing what YN felt w/o the Randy pov!

right off the bat I’d have to say for the pens, Sid would be good at baseball. (I mean, there’s already videos of him hitting a dinger out of PNC park and apparently threw a no-hitter as a kid??? i mean he was 13 but that’s impressive) but if I had to go with a fun answer with pure speculation I think ranger would be really good at tennis, or guentzel being one of those competitive fishermen considering how many offseason photos are of him fishing (also, is that considered a sport?😭) all i know is that none of them would be playing basketball 🥲

for the cards . . . idk why but donovan looks like he’d be really good a soccer and would be pro, i mean I think he’s got the speed for it, too? he’d look like he was fucking dying the entire time he ran but I think it’d be funny 🤭

watched both press conferences today-- treliving in tor, dubas in pitt-- and despite my internal soul clawing at kyle shrieking we used to be something!!😭😭 I'm like very taken by treliving and impressed and pretty excited to see where he takes the progressive analytics org kyle built over the past 5yrs as GM with all the silos (thx lou🙄) brought down and focus on care for the team and employees.

Thoughts on both:

I really loved what brad had to say in his leafs press conf.

Right off the top spoke about Calgary and thanked them

Believes in modern GM'ing of not bossing around from high up in the office building but getting to know the players

How Toronto really is something else from the inside, everyone has an idea of the team and city from the outside but its really something else from the inside (idk how to better explain this but it meant a lot to me, a toronto person who loves my city & the leafs)

Spoke highly of dubas (shanny has been speaking w pens quite a bit over the week as they've been interviewing kyle)

Spoke fondly of gio & brodie (lmao "gio still playing at 75"😂)

Many things are a priority but first order of business is talking to and getting to know auston before moving into the business side of things w him (he's texted w him only so far)

When asked about assistant GMs he may want to bring along w him, he only answered that he very much respects pridham and has already worked extensively w him when he was at coyotes and prid worked for the league and helped him A LOT almost like he was on az staff

When asked about how there has been talk about mlse reporting structure & lack of autonomy in decision-making that drove out dubas, shanny all no no GM makes the decisions...(🙄 We'll see shanny)

Asked about the tkachuk trade and brad called him his son!!🥹😭 Said he did it right with coming to him to tell him he didn't want to sign long-term but look elsewhere and so that's what brad did for him. Those things happen and you just deal with them.

Antonio's animals have canonical names. Example: the toucan is called Pico. Theory: Pico flew into Brunos tower, looking for Mirabel, then chose to stay a little longer to keep an eye her, because of Antonio, Mirabel and Antonio have a close bound so maybe he asked for her, then, maybe the rats heard from Pico that she was in Bruno’s room and followed her, I don't see why they'd have needed to go in there before that.

Agustín's clothes show how he came from a wealthy family. He was an outsider in the Encanto. So that, combined with his clumsiness, probably didn't do him any favours in really impressing Abuela. No wonder it took Alma a bit to jive with him completely but you can tell she does now, example: how she looks to him and asks him to play music to liven up the room again. She could've easily asked Félix, he's a happy, infectious personality but the chose Agustín, that shows that she trusts him. Said it before and I’ll say it again: imo, her opinion of him changed when she found out he had a talent for playing piano.

In concept stages, Félix and Agustín were going to get powers once they joined the family.

Félix has always been on good terms with Alma so, he was instantly accepted and approved when he and Pepa fell in love.

levi does not play sports. maybe boxing, sparring? just to whoops some ass idk, or maybe even that one sport with the swords (fencing?)

armin i see as a more musically inclined person, he plays piano or something. BUT if i had to choose a sport i’d say swimming and i’m tempted to say boys volleyball.

Atsushi with a s/o that has no filter

A/N: Once again, thank you so much for your kindness, I do not know how I deserve it (/ω＼). This was a very fun challenge to write, thank you for the request! (ﾟ∀ﾟ)

Pairings: Atsushi x gn!reader

Genre: fluff, slice of life

Warnings: mentions of nsfw at the end

Summary: You are a very direct person and Atsushi deals with it lovingly.

Atsushi Nakajima is a soft person with kind behavior and a high will-to-please. Even though he has found a place where he is appreciated for who he truly is in the ADA, he still tries to adapt in the best way possible to his surroundings and other people. He doesn’t even do it consciously. It’s a way of self-protection since he got kicked around as a child (metaphorically and literally) and even though he doesn’t need it anymore, it’s hard to lose such a habit. It would never come naturally to him to speak his mind in such a way as you do.

You on the other hand? Well -

Let’s say you’re a new member of the ADA. When Atsushi gets introduced to you, he’s all shy smiles and polite bows. You get into a bit of small talk and he explains his ability to you. And you? You just straight up tell him that you think it’s so incredibly cool and impressive. You ramble on about how strong he must be and how much you’d love to see him transform.

He’ll be so surprised by that. Although he’s well aware by now that his gift is powerful and special, he still struggles to accept it as anything but dangerous - the raw, sincere excitement and passion that comes with your words may be too much for him. He’ll look confused, very flustered and blush slightly, but smile: ��You think so? Thank you.”

Initially, he'll be a bit scared of you, in, like, the way he was scared of Yosano. It’s more like...a lot of respect. Your bluntness can be difficult to manage for him - but he's open-minded and therefore, it will not take him long to see the honest, well-meaning person underneath your words that doesn't mean to harm anyone in most cases.

Also, having no filter doesn't just mean that you’re giving unwanted opinions all the time – it also means that you have no problem with expressing admiration, awe, happiness and such.

Seeing you getting excited about things and expressing your excitement openly will be so comforting to him. It will help him to understand that your bluntness is just part of your personality and not a conscious behavior to hurt or confuse others.

When you two start getting close and he tells you about his self-doubts, you'll probably tell him that he should get his shit together. You express to him that you still think his gift is amazing and that he should be proud of it instead of being such a chicken.

Even though your words are harsh he’ll read between the lines and understand what you meant to convey. He’ll take them very seriously and try to believe more in himself. After all, he’s still struggling from time to time.

So yes, your direct way of speaking will gradually help him to come to terms with himself since you’re really supportive in that way.

He also knows he can trust you to be honest with him at all times and even though you can be blunt, that’ll put him at ease. If you do have a problem with him, you’ll get to that right away, so if there are no complaints from your side, he’s doing fine, right?

As soon as he gets used to your bluntness, he’ll slowly start developing a certain protectiveness over you. He knows you do not mean to cause harm by your words well in most cases, but your words can cause quite the chaos from time to time.

Your expressiveness can also be entertaining; whenever your words put someone out of countenance, he laughs lightly, even though he feels a bit ashamed for finding it funny. But he’s ready to jump in and mediate whenever your words hit the wrong nerve….

The two of you will work together on cases for the ADA. When there’s someone, be it a client or someone you need to question, who’s being particularly difficult to handle, you will NOT hesitate to tell them that they’re behaving like an idiot and it’d be better if they would just shut up –

Cue Atsushi stepping in to save the day

“What?! Did you just call me an idiot?” – “Ah, please, she didn’t mean it that way” – “Yes, I did.” – “Shh, (y/n)-san!”

Whenever there’s all hope lost to mediate and a fight is incoming because your mouth slipped with the wrong people, he won’t hesitate to fight alongside you, even though he’ll prefer to run. (just never piss of Chuuya because god knows that would be one hell of a fight – wait maybe you should)

Of course, there will also be times when your comments are inappropriate. At first, Atsushi won’t be sure how to act in those situations, but it won’t take him long to see that it really upsets you when you accidentally hurt people that are important to you.

So he’ll also develop the habit of commenting whenever you overstep the line. He does not want you to feel ashamed in any way though and he’s not too assertive in everyday communication, so his comments will be very careful and polite.

“So what should we do about this situation?” “Depends, do we want to safe the child or the stolen goods? Because I think the escape route for just taking the goods would be easier.” – “…(y/n)-san…you’re right, but I don’t think that’s the priority here…” – “Right, sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.”

So yes, as soon as he understands you don’t mean any harm and gets to know you better, he’ll develop a lot of trust in your bond and take a shine to you.

Now, just the idea of confessing his feelings to you will make him go into panic mode because if you do not return his feelings, you’ll surely not sugarcoat your answer. He’ll just keep it to himself for as long as he can.

If you are an observant person, you’ll notice. Atsushi’s not that difficult to read and as soon as you realize what he has been hiding from you, you’ll definitely bring it up.

“Atsushi-kun, do you have a crush on me?” – “WHAT? I- no no no-“ poor boy

If you’re not that observant, you’ll probably just bring up your own feelings whenever you feel ready to or at a completely random moment.

“Hey Atsushi-kun, I’m kinda crushing on you, wanna date?”

He’ll stop dead in his tracks, blush profusely and just start stammering incomprehensive word snippets. It will take him a long time to from a proper sentence. Congratulations, you broke him.

Since he’s taking so long to answer, you could jus proceed to ask him if you can kiss him. I he manages to stammer a “yes”, go ahead! He’ll go stiff at first, but eventually it’ll calm him down and he’ll shyly lean into the kiss.

And here you are, quite the contrary couple – a soft boy and his outspoken girlfriend. But anyone that sees you interact longer than a few minutes will understand why this works out – he gets you and has no problem with your straightforwardness and you appreciate his thoughtfulness and kindness. You two have the key to every successful relationship, which is successful communication – congratulations!

He’ll be more openly protective now that you’re his girlfriend because he feels a certain responsibility – of course you can probably handle yourself perfectly fine. But he wants to proof himself worthy of being with you and that’s one of his ways to do so.

Speaking of worthy – whenever you two may have an argument, you will have to be more careful with your word choice. He’ll be vulnerable then and not as capable of dissecting your words and if anything you say is hurtful he’ll search for the fault in himself. Is he even worthy of being your boyfriend? Is he enough?

You’ll have to explain to him what you did and didn’t mean to say with your words. It’s good that you have no qualms about being honest though, it will be easier to clear things up that way. Rest assured that he won’t be mad at you in any way, in the end he always knows you don’t carry any ill will.

NOW! Atsushi better remember telling you which intimate things about your relationship he’s okay with you mentioning to others and which you should keep to yourself, as you won’t be keeping ANYTHING to yourself if not asked by him otherwise

And it doesn’t depend if you’re talking with close friends or with just anyone

He’s definitely the type for keeping intimate details about the relationship to himself so if you ever nonchalantly spill the tea about your relationship he’ll be so embarrassed

For example if Naomi asks you teasingly how far the two of you already went

If he’s around, he’ll make a leap and try cover your mouth with his hand because he knows you’d definitely tell Naomi anything, a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g

If you’re more the calm type of  person, you’ll just roll your eyes and move his hand away, but keep quiet

If you’re the quirky type, you’ll probably giggle and kiss the palm of his hand and there he goes blushing again oh my

Talking about things that should be kept in private…

When the time comes that you two talk about having sex...ohohoho

It doesn’t matter whom of you started the topic. Even if Atsushi mustered the courage to do so, and he very well could as he as a deep level of trust for you now, he’ll definitely be to one blushing and stuttering and you’ll just sit there, sipping tea and talking about your needs and wishes and asking about his. Because hey, it’s important to make that clear!

Even though it takes him some courage to be open with you in exploring this new field, he’s yet again very thankful that you feel no shame talking about this. It reduces his shyness as well.

Oswald the lucky rabbit

First Impression: I only saw him in passing while watching compilation/history/music videos on YouTube. Meaning I barely saw him nor did I care about him. 😭

Impression now: I would die for this boy. I shall wair for all of eternity just for his next appearance. All the while I shall still give all my love to this little black rabbit.

Favourite moment: I guess it would have to be his role in the Epic Mickey games. It’s the closes Oswald has gotten to being apart of the Mickey & Friends franchise. Not only that the games give him the most developed (modern) personality so far.

Idea for a story: A corrupt society run by Yen Sid. Mickey Mouse is basically Yen Sid’s bitch. The rest of the Fab Five live in a world of illusions, they believe they live in the happiest place on earth. However, that’s far from the truth. It takes a rebellion, led by on Lucky Rabbit, to bring magic back!

Unpopular opinion: I do not like his 3D model in the Epic Mickey games. They made his ears flat when they should be like Mickey’s the same at every angle.

Favourite relationship: Oswald X Ortensia

Favourite headcanon: Oooo… this one’s hard. I have a few headcanons to do with Oz, but none I would say are my favourite. Some headcanons I have are; he has an artificial heart, he is allergic to magic (Disney Magic being the worst) and that he is the only member of his family the doesn’t have any magic.

FLORRIE: straight (potentially poly? No strong opinion either way)

NICOLA: lesbian, maybe took a while to accept it? Not many relationships but I imagine she was with Vee for a while

VERITY: also lesbian (had a crush on Harry originally) I get the impression she doesn’t get on with men very well even as friends other than Ben (or anyone really) so I hope she will be good friends with Sid!

MAL: aro and ace! 💜 Before I saw he was confirmed aro I loosely imagined him as demi-romantic so in my first fic there’s a brief allusion to that, but in the future I’ll probably only write him as aro/ace. Oh, and he and Wolfe are platonic soulmates ☺️ I see him as disinterested in love and sex but not repulsed by it, maybe tried kissing once or twice (I like to imagine with Wolfe) but just went nah and left it. He’s totally fine with this.

WOLFE: bi, again with a preference for women, though I think in a question thing he said he hadn’t been with any men.

VOSS: gay, and though I haven’t seen it confirmed I think it’s pretty easy to read sexual/romantic tension between him and Wolfe (I don’t think Wolfe is aware) and I don’t remember anything about him using his stolen gifts to woo women, even though that would have been easy.

HENRY: bi and this is pretty evident from his flirting! I don’t see him as having a preference either way. Not sure if I think he was with Ben and Vee’s grandad (Victor? Flying boat guy you know who I mean) but I like to think so.

BEN: pan-romantic demi-sexual! This was kind of suggested by someone a while back and I really like it ☺️ I don’t imagine he’s had a lot of relationships though (in my fic I gave him a fairly recently broken heart 💔😭) Doesn’t seem too likely that we will see him get a romance but I think it would be lovely if he did. I know I said it as a joke but honestly I’m hoping for Eliza 😉 (I think they do interact for a panel when she tells him to go away but we didn’t know her then)

ELIZA: she was confirmed trans! I’d thought maybe so it’s nice to see that made explicit. Wonder if it’ll come up at all in the story? Maybe if we see her and Knotty as kids I guess. Not much opinion on orientation but maybe straight.

WILL (GARBAGE MAN): it’s hard to headcanon characters you still don’t know too well but at the moment I’m seeing him as gay I guess? Maybe bi? Him and Eliza would be quite interesting but I also felt he was flirty with Knotty but he’s almost certainly like that with everyone I imagine. Think we’ll have to wait for his confidence act to drop to find out more about the real him.

KNOTTY: weirdly I more definitely think he’s gay than I do Garbage Man but again there’s not really anything to go on. Also feel he could be ace but that’s based on nothing really 😅

ALEXA: almost forgot her! I kind of see her as aro and don’t have an opinion on sexual orientation 💚 (I don’t want to be lazy and just say ace because they get lumped together a lot but nothing really contradicts that idea either)

Nice thing about Widdershins is it doesn’t super matter what orientation or whatever anyone is because I always feel like it’s the deep friendships and comraderie that comes first ❤️
