It really is low-key kinda soul crushing to see your hometown and neighbourhood be decimated by gentrification and little by little see less and less locals around and more and more americans with a Columbus complex taking over and trying to reshape your culture because it's 'too loud' or 'too much'
They come and turn the things that drew them here into plastic replicas for their own profit and deny us our culture unless it is for their consumption and entertainment
Why do they come to the loud colourful places filled with 'exotic' people just to quiet, dull, and displace us
You open your doors to share your culture and they settle in your house, sell your things, and start charging you rent
And they just keep telling us this is good for us, it's good for the economy, they bring progress, and so on.
