i heard Varric with the Hawke kids in Dadwolf AU??? 👀👀
SOOOOOO glad you asked it. 👀💜 Ask me about my blorbos yesssssss
I'm planning to write something more structured for the DadWolf AU. I'm still defining details before writing, but roughly the plan would be to follow in-game events, but in a modern technology setting (and modern pop culture because I have IDEAS), with the premises:
Solas woke up 30 years or so before he did in game, was VERY out of place, and with no Old Magister up and about for his plans… He had to wait. Met Varric, got adopted in his friends circle, started teaching Magic at university.
Varric is older than in game, and he was, actually, MALCOLM's BFF.
Hence, the Hawke kids are baby Raina and Garrett plus Bethany and Carver. Varric is the cool uncle that's always around (sorry, Gamlen) and gives the best gifts and tosses Raina and Carver around for the lolz.
Hawke panzer-children are very physical ones, needing more practical activities and always running up and about (Raina and Carver more than the rest, Garrett less so but he is one year apart from Raina and goes with the flow, Bethany goes less with the flow but if everyone's laughing she joins) and Varric complies. Leandra wasn't really keen on him encouraging them, but Raina always had a lot of problems staying still in the same place, and Varric tires her enough so she goes to sleep at night with less problems. If Raina sleeps, Carver does too… So yeah, Leandra approves. As an example: Raina read about Batman, got really into it because he was a superhero but with no special powers! Meaning she could be cool as her dad and brother as well, even if she had no magic. So, little Raina climbing on furniture and jumping on the couch/bed yelling "I'M BATMAN!"? Varric laughed and gifted her a bat-cape. Bat-themed pjs and everything. Malcolm laughed, Leandra sighed and felt her dreams of a well accomplished lady-like firstborn crumbling down. But Raina was evidently very happy, so...
When the balls of destruction gets adopted, Varric goes automatically to very-physical-approach. Dorian… Isn't too happy with it, he's much more calm and prefers to read. They all grow up together. The story begins in Kirkwall, we're all moving down to Ferelden after Malcolm dies and shit goes south in town. (Solas was basically days away from discovering the huge blood magic circle under Kirkwall… But agreed that growing two mage children there would have been difficult, and he didn't want them to have to hide. So goodbye research.) (Solas definitely has the "Do it for them" sign in his office, surrounded by photos of the children, yes.)
A snippet of little Aisling listening too much to papae Solas the DadWolf (I won't keep the Orb like that, this is from before the AU expanded in my head. But I'm keeping the "She totally got in a fight with Samson, she started it and she bit him. Hard.)

Oh my! I was sooo waiting for you to reblog that headcanon post and now I find out you already did?? YES! Now I have the perfect excuse to launch Hawke at Mihri like a dart on the board 👀💛
I'd love to be a fly on the wall and listen to their interactions! He has no filters, he's constantly horny, plus he's a powerful bullshit detector. Would point his finger at her and say "I trust this girl with my life", but then he'd ask her to pull it, because he's a complete idiot or she probably had a bad day so he needs to distract her and that's the more obvious joke
I don't think she'd be impressed by him at first? Like, I think for her it would be like a kombucha girl moment but then they'd both realize there's more and more under the surface and just click. Hawke would ask for her opinion on literally anything, because she gives him a raw sweetness vibe, plus she's super fun to hang out with! I know she is!
But also, I so picture theirs like those ride or die friendships where one of them appears on the other's doorstep at 3am and just goes "get in loser, we're going on a quest" but it's just a trip to the ice cream parlor. And then they'd just sit in the middle of nowhere talking about the meaning of life and how awesome it would be if they had chicken nuggets to dip on that ice cream. Anyway, there's a group of venatori nearby, let's just kick some ass and then grab something to eat (chicken nuggets mukbang a few minutes later, but the audience is just the advisors trying to get some work done while these two are talking about di-- fereldan politics in front of the war table)
Oh my god, I am obsessed with this!
I'm sure at Haven, Varric can't resist telling Mihri all about Hawke and how he thinks they'd get along so perfectly. When he first shows up at Skyhold, she's just sort of like "...this is the guy? He's ok I guess." Then the first time he slips in a dick joke at the War Table (met with a big sigh from Cullen), she finally gets it, and they're best friends now.
She would love spending time with him at the tavern and hearing about all of his adventures (and exploits) in Kirkwall, especially the really raunchy ones. She'd probably try to make up some tall tales to match him, and he can totally tell that she's lying, but he eggs her on anyway. I imagine at some point he jokingly sighs and laments the fact that she wasn't in Kirkwall -- they could have gotten up to so much trouble. "Thank the Maker you weren't," Cullen sighs and asks for another ale. It's gonna be a long night... This is probably the punishment from the Maker for his past, he thinks, having to suffer both of them together. With that, though, Hawke strikes me as the type to be like "this guy? Girl, you're dating this guy? Let me tell you every embarrassing story I have about him," while Cullen melts into the floor.
They are BFFs, I'm declaring it now

Going Home
Last part of my AU where Fenris stays behind in Skyhold after Hawke goes to Adamant and they’re reunited after . Previously…Part 1: Waiting, Part 2: The Waiting Ends, Part 3: Hidden Wound, Part 4: A Bath, Part 5: Night.
Her job done, Hawke starts thinking of home.
Sitting in a quiet spot above the gardens, Hawke leaned against Fenris, resting against his shoulder. “I think I’m ready to go home.”
Several weeks had passed since their reunion. Their wounds were almost mended and they’d talked about what happened in the Fade. With less raw emotions, it had been easier to discuss why Hawke offered to stay and the surge of conflicting feelings it brought out in Fenris.
Now, the Inquisition was accelerating it’s plans for dealing with Corypheus and, Hawke’s task complete, they were content to fade into the background bustle of the keep. The two of them spent less time by the fire in the main hall and more together in less traveled, out of the way spots. However, this was the first mention of leaving.
Fenris cocked his head to one side, trying to look at Hawke without disturbing her. “Home?” he asked. After being on the run again, he wasn’t sure where home was, what was safe.
Kirkwall. The estate.” Hawke toyed with ends of the red fabric wrapped around his wrist. “Though I doubt Aveline has been able to keep the tax collectors and officials away from your mansion with it truly being empty. But you’re more than welcome to mine.”
She looked up at him with hopeful eyes but Fenris could also see hesitation. She was steeling herself for a rejection of the offer in case he wanted a return to the way things had been before they fled the city.
“I don’t know, Hawke, it might be nice to get away from your snoring again.”
“I…” she sat upright in surprise and playfully swatted his arm, “I do not snore.”
“Is that so?”
“It is.”
“In that case,” Fenris pulled her into a gentle kiss. “It would be my pleasure to continue waking up by your side every morning.”
They told Varric their plans later that evening and, with a heavy heart, he told them he understood, but he had to see this thing with the Inquisition through.
A week later Hawke and Fenris gathered with a small caravan at the gates of Skyhold, ready to begin their long journey north to the Free Marches.
“You know, Hawke,” Varric started, “things won’t be the same here without you.”
“They never are.” Hawke was smiling but her voice threatened to crack. “For one thing, you’ll lose less money at Wicked Grace.”
“I don’t know about that, you’ve seen the way Ruffles plays.”
A moment passed, neither wanting to give into the sadness that filled the air around them. It was Fenris who broke the silence, “You can always try to make it up against Donnic after you return.”
Varric chucked at the memory of their games together in Fenris’ mansion, “That might not be a bad idea.”
The horses and wagons of the caravan started to pull away, forcing their final goodbyes.
“Take care of her, Fenris. Keep her safe.”
Fenris gave a small bow, “You have my word.”
Hawke started to protest her need to be protected but stopped, instead looking to the Inquisitor, “And you, make sure Varric makes it back to Kirkwall. I’m not sure how much longer the Merchant’s Guild can deal with his absence.”
Varric snorted and Hawke turned her attention back to him. “First round at The Hanged Man is on me when you get back.”
“And I’ll buy the second, or we can put it on my tab.”
“Deal.”
By now the caravan was halfway across the bridge.
“Looks like they’re leaving without you. You two should get going, Buttercup.”
Hawke and Fenris looked at each other, then Hawke bent down and wrapped Varric in a sudden hug. “I’ll see you soon.”
“Take care,” he said softly against her.
Hawke stood and, with a final wave, she and Fenris jogged through the gates to catch up with the others.
They found the estate much as they’d left it. There was a little more dust and a few more cobwebs, but between Aveline’s patrols and periodic visits from Orana, it seemed to have made it through the worst of the chaos in the months following the Chantry explosion.
That night, Hawke laid in her bed, sinking into the familiar mattress, sweaty limbs tangled with Fenris’. The glow from the fire warmed her, easing her further and further into a satisfied hazy sleep. Gathering the last of her energy, she propped herself on one elbow, looking down at Fenris to find a similar expression on his face.
She watched him with a rare carefree smile then kissed him. Once. Twice. Three times. Brief but deliberate. Her lips hovered just above his, almost ghosting against them when she spoke, “Welcome home.”

no but for real yall gotta stop with that argument that ‘FRIENDSHIPS/PLATONIC RELATIONSHIPS ARE IMPORTANT OK THAT’S WHY U CANT MAKE VARRIC YER BOYFRAN’
yes, they are important. they’re amazing. I love...having friends. There is nothing better than...having friends. I definitely have lots of friends. And that’s the great thing about customizable storylines and character dynamics, if you just want to be friends with...whoever, you can do that. Just want to be BFFs with, idk, Dorian, Sera, any of the canon romanceable folks? You can totally do that. That is definitely a thing you can do without ever having to wander anywhere near to smooch territory.
But then there’s the little PESKY fact that, considering DA is by design customizable, one can make different playable characters, characters with different personalities and different dynamics with different NPCs/companions. Whereas Dorian is usually my BFF forever in most run throughs and we 100% have matching bracelets, there’s going to come a run through where I make a character to romance him.
And that’s what I’m saying. Theoretically having the OPTION to romance Varric wouldn’t somehow devalue a friendship option because...that still would be an option as well. If platonic was what you wanted, you could still do that and, again, never have to even deal with lovey dovey stuff. I get it. My Hawke and Varric are bffs forever and ever and I couldn’t see that relationship being anything else just because of who they both are. That doesn’t mean, however, that someone feeling like THEIR Hawke could have something else with Varric somehow has any bearing, negative or otherwise, on my Hawke/Varric dynamic.
It’s the difficulty-level argument all over. Some people feel like there shouldn’t be difficulty-level options at all, as if my having the option to play a game on easy-baby-thunder pp jr mode somehow ruins the fun of them playing on HARDCORE MANLY MAN MODE even though those are both options open and one doesn’t have to affect the other. In any way.
It’s almost like...customizable games should have lots of options to fit different whims of different players. It’s almost like they benefit from having various scenarios and experiences.
I’m not saying there aren’t...somewhat valid arguments against wanting to wine and dine Varric in a romantic way, but this is the one that crops up most often and it honestly makes me want to lowkey tear my hair out lmao

OC Masterlist
@kiraia pointed out (rightfully so) that I made quite a few vague posts about my OCs, but that I’ve never properly introduced them. It’s true, mostly because I tend to wait until they are well developed to properly do anything with them, which doesn’t happen all that often. So consider this a formal introduction to my current OCs :)
(Under a cut because there are quite a bunch of them. I hope it works on mobile, because otherwise yikes! I’m very sorry.)
Sad Mages Worldstate
It’s probably the one I talk about the most. It’s the most developed worldstate, with the most developed OCs and I’ve written a lot of fics about them.
The Warden: Ana Surana [Tag | Complete bio | Fanfictions]
pairings: Ana x Daylen Amell (friends with benefits), Ana x Alistair (DAO romance), Ana x Carver (current pairing, now married) + I occasionally throw Isabela into the mix because reasons.
Born in the Gallows and taken to an orphanage in Highever until her magic manifested.
Grew up close to Anders, Jowan, Amell and (to a lesser extent) Finn.
Had a baby that she was forced to give to the Chantry.
Main DAO choices include: romancing Alistair, getting her heart broken after making him king, stupidly refusing to do Morrigan’s ritual and watching him sacrifice his life for her.
Later she starts dating Carver (whom she actually met at Ostagar where they had a brief fling before the Battle).
Takes part in the Mage Underground and helps Anders build his bomb.
Starts hearing the Calling shortly before DAI.
Is Hawke’s contact during HLtA.
The Champion: Alwyn Hawke [Tag | Complete bio | Fanfictions]
pairings: Alwyn x Anders (DA2 romance, on and off), Alwyn x Cullen (one time), Alwyn x Rylen (post DAI, considering making them endgame, not sure yet).
Purple Hawke.
Carver becomes a warden.
Supports the mages.
Develops a close friendship with Ana.
Breaks up with Anders after the Chantry explosion, wishing he’d trusted him enough to share his plan with him. They do get back together later on.
Is the first one to learn about Ana hearing the Calling.
Stays behind in the Fade during HLtA, but eventually finds a way out.
He was found by Inquisition scouts in the Western Approach, suffering from amnesia.
Later falls in love with Rylen.
(Note that I still need to update that last part into his bio.)
The Inquisitor: Violette Surana [Tag | Complete bio | Fanfictions]
pairings: Violette x Orsino (once twice), Violette x Samson (current partner).
Ana’s mum.
Orlesian who grew up in Ferelden during the occupation.
Was taken to the Gallows at age 13.
Was a close friend of Malcolm Hawke.
Had her baby (Ana) taken by the Chantry. Later escaped.
Hates the Chantry.
Attends the Conclave in the hopes that Ana might be there.
Starts sleeping with Samson after his capture because he basically said fuck the Chantry to her face and it turned her on.
Hardened Leliana becomes Divine.
Other OC: Neriah Amell-Hawke
Is Ana’s daughter. She got her out of the orphanage after the Blight (thanks, Leliana).
Her father is Daylen Amell. Carver adopted her when he married her mama.
Is 18 as of Trespasser.
Second Chances Worldstate
This one started off as an AU for a fic starring Ana and Alistair which is why these two worldstates are so similar. The point of divergence is that Jowan went to Amell for help instead of Ana for some reason.
The Warden: Daylen Amell [Tag | Fanfictions]
pairings: Day x Ana (friends with benefits), Day x Morrigan (DAO romance and while I did consider for a while not having him follow her through the eluvian, I changed my mind. There’s too much growth potential.)
His father was Maurevar Carver, because I say so.
Main DAO choices include: Sparing Loghain, Alistair becoming a drunk, not doing Morrigan’s ritual because he can just throw Loghain at the Archdemon (which he did).
Helps Ana get their daughter out of the Kirkwall orphanage. Bails on them right afterwards.
Does follow Morrigan through the eluvian and actually ends up being a decent dad to Kieran.
Does not become Ferelden’s Warden-Commander.
The Champion: Alwyn Hawke (yes, again)
Like I said, this was originally an AU, so it made sense to keep the same Hawke. There are quite a few differences, however.
pairings: none.
Does not bring Anders to the Deep Roads. Carver dies.
Suffers from severe depression afterwards.
Goes from purple to full blue after Leandra’s death.
Stays behind in the Fade. Probably won’t make it out in this worldstate.
The Inquisitor: Asaara Adaar [Tag | Fanfictions]
pairings: Asaara x Cullen (starts before DAI, now married).
Meets Cullen shortly before the Chantry explosion. They fall in love.
Not going into too much details because it will be part of Second Chances’ main story.
Other OCs: Ana Surana and Neriah [Main fic | Other fics]
Again, can’t go into too much detail because spoilers.
pairings: Ana x Carver (before the Deep Roads expedition anyway), Ana x Alistair.
Day brings Ana to Kirkwall shortly after the Blight to meet their daughter. She ends up staying after they get Neriah out of the orphanage.
Single mom. Works as a waitress.
They find drunk Alistair in their garbage. Ana wants to help him get better.
Other OC: Issala Adaar [Tag]
pairings: Issala x Varric (post-DAI).
Is Asaara’s overexcited little sister.
Likes to tinker with explosives.
Built a handheld cannon. It’s clunky, not very accurate and is prone to misfire. In other words, it still needs a lot of work.
Varric thinks she’s adorable so he made her his personal bodyguard.
Angry Dalish Worldstate
The Warden: Shaelyn Mahariel [Tag | Fanfictions]
pairings: Lyn x Tamlen (Origin), Lyn x Bethany, (considering Lyn x Alistair between DA2 and DAI but even that might be too cruel.)
Doesn’t want to be a warden.
DAO choices include: Alistair remaining with the wardens because he doesn’t want to be king.
No in-game romance, she was too heartbroken after losing Tamlen.
Eventually starts dating Bethany.
Travels to the Free Marches after the death of her clan to kill the man responsible.
Almost dies in the resulting fight against Hawke (thank the Creators Anders was there).
Goes home and confesses to Bethany that she almost killed her brother and that she would have done it had he not been so badass. They break up.
The two of them reconcile post-DAI, after Hawke and Merrill’s wedding.
The Champion: Kris Hawke [Tag]
pairings: Kris x Merrill (now married).
Blue Hawke.
Sadly couldn’t save Merrill’s clan.
Didn’t want to hurt Lyn that badly during their fight, he was just defending himself. Deeply regrets it afterwards.
The Inquisitor: no one specific yet, but likely a Lavellan romancing Solas.
Alistair stays behind in the Fade.
Elves in Luuuuv Worldstate
The Warden: Kallian Tabris [Tag | Fanfictions]
pairings: Tabs x Alistair (DAO romance)
Probably the most canon-compliant OC.
Main DAO choices include: making Alistair king with Anora as queen and becoming his mistress.
Madly in love.
Will have a happy ending.
No Hawke or Inquisitor yet.
Homecoming Worldstate
The Warden: Elaine Cousland [Tag]
pairings: Elle x Nathaniel (pre-DAO, now ex-husband), Elle x Leliana (DAO romance), Elle x Sebastian (current).
Was BFF with Anora during their childhood.
Actually met Sebastian before he was sent to the Chantry. The two of them had similar lifestyles back then, so when Elle visited Starkhaven with her father, the two of them developed a rivalry of sorts in their romantic pursuits (think Merteuil and Valmont, but a lot more light-hearted). They do spend one night together after learning that he is going to be sent to the Chantry.
Eventually fell in love and married Nate. They kept their relationship a secret, however. They divorced after the Blight.
Main DAO choices include: romancing Leliana, making Alistair king with Anora as queen, sparing Loghain and performing the ritual.
Her relationship with Leliana didn’t survive the distance.
Leaves the Wardens after the Chantry explosion and basically goes on the run from everyone because she feels responsible for what happened.
Helps Sebastian reclaim his throne. They fall in love. (I’m currently writing a fic about this, actually)
Still unsure about her DAI fate. Either she replaces Hawke in HLtA and stays behind in the Fade, or she becomes Inquisitor.
The Champion: Violetta Hawke [Tag | Fanfictions]
pairings: Letta x Isabela (DA2 romance).
Yes, she was totally named after Violette.
Is Kris’ sister.
Carver becomes a Templar.
Spared Anders.
Sails into the sunset with Isabela.
DAI fate will depend on what I decide to do with Elle.
The Inquisitor: no one yet.
Loghain survives HLtA.
I am considering having Neriah (yes, again) be the Herald with someone else as Inquisitor since she’s only a kid. In this worldstate, she grew up in Kirkwall’s orphanage before being taken to the Gallows. She escapes the massacre and Carver eventually takes her under his wing.
I'm planning to have two additional worldstates (I want one per warden origin). One called "Happy Dwarves" with a male Brosca romancing Zevran and one called "Dead Heroes" with a male Aeducan romancing Leliana (and probably Alwyn again, idk). I also have a couple of Cadashes that I want to put somewhere, a woman romancing Josie and a man romancing Divine Cassandra. Idk yet if they'll be Inquisitors or if I'll just add them to one of the existing worldstates. Odds are one will be Inquisitor while the other just tags along.
I probably missed a few things here and there, but that’s basically the gist of it. Thanks to anyone who actually stuck to the end, lmao.

Note
hey sorry if this is stupid you dont have to answer lol but what does protagonist-centered morality mean?
oh no, it’s not stupid at all!  how i choose to interpret pcm is that it’s when a protagonist isn’t held to the same level of moral standards as the other characters.  it can be slightly excused in da2 since varric is the one telling the story, but i don’t know how many things i can excuse with the whole unreliable narrator angle.
a major moment in da2 that made me realize that hawke may have a case of the pcms is the boss battle with orsino.  i’ve ranted about this before, but i’ll do it again because i never tire of it.  imo, the issue isn’t entirely that orsino went all harvester, the issue lies in how orsino is framed differently in each ending.
if orsino is on hawke’s side, orsino is framed as a desperate man giving his own life for his people.
if orsino is not on hawke’s side, orsino is framed as an evil madman who’s basically everything meredith expected a mage to be.
mage!ending orsino uses the slaughtered bodies of his mages to power his harvester spell.  templar!ending orsino kills his own people to do the same thing.
how much more powerful would it be in the templar ending if, instead of meredith and hawke charging in to see orsino laughing evilly, the framing would be the same as it was in the mage ending?  hawke and the templars beat the shit out orsino and his mages and then you get a cutscene where orsino does his whole “why give us the illusion of hope” speech (except more pained since he just got the shit kicked out of him) and then he sees that he has no choice but to use the very magic he swore off using.
but instead, the templar ending feels like the game is constantly holding hawke’s hand.
“don’t worry, bb, you did the right thing.  see, the leader of the circle was going to sacrifice the mages anyway uwu.  look, he’s laughing all evil just like literally every mage you’ve battled before, he’s definitely not the desperate man who almost considered giving the templars total power ten minutes ago.  also he was bffs with the dude who killed your mom, so you don’t have to feel bad about stepping on him later uvu”
this post is getting long enough, but there was another post i saw that pointed out that merril’s motivation to restore pieces of elven culture is framed as being “obsessive” and she should just start anew, but hawke restoring the amell/hawke name is a major part of their character.  that post worded it a lot better, so i won’t go into more detail here.  holy cow this post is long.
but yeah, in short pcm isn’t a total deal breaker for me, but it’s one of those things that if i notice it, it’s really hard for me to un-notice it.

How well does Olivia get along with her advisors and companions? Dorian and Solas not so much apparently, but how about the others?
That’s definitely a loaded, mixed-bag question! And I’m grateful you asked ❤️ Playing again with her has made me realize, and remember, things aren’t wholly what I thought they might be when I was planning her out.
Also… uhhh, putting a cut halfway thru cause this got long.
Case and point on that is Sera. They have this playful relationship that’s friendly and flirty, but also gets quite strained at times. Olivia’s faith and her strong belief in the templars is a huge problem with Sera. The strain gets a bit much for Olivia and she begins to distance herself to cut out the complication.
Cole is another interesting one. Olivia is so very torn about Cole. In her heart she knows he wants to help, that he is helping and did help her with Envy. But everything she’s learned in her life as a templar has taught her to fear what he is, to cast away (if not kill) what the Chantry has told her is a demon. It’s her compassionate side that allows Cole to stay, but the wary templar in her keeps him at a distance.
Cullen she knew before the Inquisition. He was her superior in Kirkwall and while they didn’t know each other well, they ended up bonding in Haven about shared experiences there and talking about what brought them to the templars, etc. By the time she becomes Inquisitor, their friendship has grown into “bff” territory. They argue like siblings, on occasion, not always seeing eye to eye, but they’re always supportive of each other.
With Leliana it’s friendly professional? Olivia would like to know her and be closer, but after she catches Leliana in her moment of weakness in Haven it quickly becomes an uphill battle. She also manages, though not entirely intentionally, to send off mixed signals? Like, her attitude toward a lot of things, and how she views the world and what they’re doing ends up translating to Leliana closing herself off more and going colder. Leliana’s want/need to be more effective for what the Inquisitor ultimately requires of her closing off that door Olivia hoped to pass through some day.
On the flip side, we have Josephine, who Olivia admires. While unsure of someone so adept at the Game and keen on politics at first, Olivia doesn’t take too long to warm up to Josie. She also develops quite the crush on her, but oh Maker is Olivia bad at flirting. And we all know Josie isn’t the best at picking up on those flirty signals to begin with. As much as Olivia wishes it, that avenue ends up going nowhere, but they do become pretty good friends.
Other than Cullen, probably one of her closest friends is Vivienne. Having only experienced life as a templar in Kirkwall, Olivia’s keen to learn everything she can about Vivienne’s experience. That curiosity leads to many evening discussions between them about how both the Circle and the Order should be and how that change could be implemented. Vivienne is also the one, along with Josie, that helps keep Olivia… presentable to the masses. The outfit she wears in her downtime was a gift from Vivienne, and she even has special armor commissioned just for Olivia once she becomes Inquisitor.
And we, of course, know that Solas and Dorian definitely dislike Olivia - and she them. After a bit of time passes, she and Dorian come to tolerate each other. But it never passes more the chilly professionalism stage between them. He’s there to help and she appreciates that, for the sake of saving the world, but also struggles to look past both the man of Tevinter and the mage. With Solas they just disagree on every fundamental level. She also despises his holier-than-thou arrogance (as she sees it) and takes every opportunity to make sarcastic jabs at him and, whenever possible, prove him wrong.
With Bull, Olivia is wary. They’re generally friendly, but she tries to keep her distance from him. The idea that he’s a spy, even that he willingly shared this information, puts her ill at ease. After the issues with the qunari in Kirkwall, she’s more than a little gun shy, as it were, when it comes to dealing with the Qun. She’s friendly with Krem as well, and has no issues with the Chargers on a whole, just doesn’t spend much time around them. And Krem is usually around when she’s interacting with Bull, acting as a bit of a buffer sometimes to ensure things stay friendly.
At first, Blackwall cannot stand Olivia. He thinks she’s arrogant, can’t see past her own faith, and is too stubborn to accept dissent from others when they disagree with her on whether it was truly divine intervention that saved her at the Conclave. She proves him wrong, however. Helping everyone she can in the Hinterlands, he realizes that she’s not just focused on closing the Breach by “whatever means”. Also when he watches her interact with non-rebel mages (aka those that don’t attack them on site), he realizes she’s not just another templar. And also maybe most importantly she expresses an interest in learning about him, beyond just being a warden, and he realizes she sees him as a man and not a tool. I’ll have to revisit how things go after the… reveal. Not sure I can judge right off hand how that’ll go tbh. She’s been growing more as I’ve been playing her beyond how I planned her out.
Uhh, let’s see, I think that leaves Cassandra and Varric. They’re… interesting ones. Cassandra she mostly gets along with, but sometimes they’re so much alike that Olivia gets… hm, not bored but… I can’t put my finger on the word I want. At any rate, for as much as they can be alike, they also disagree. Or well, mostly when it comes to the purpose of the Inquisition and what can be done with it. Olivia feels Cass looks too much to the past, and even hates when Cass goes off about being among the “few women that have shaped the world”. Olivia wants to be her own person, but also realizes that Cass isn’t really wrong about that and that bothers her. Also Cass totally gets Olivia reading Varric’s books and it’s dreadful for poor Varric.
And speaking of, Olivia and Varric have a tense relationship. He’s much in the same boat as Blackwall was at the start, but doesn’t offer Olivia as much opportunity to… “right” that viewpoint. Not that she particularly tries with him. Like many others, she appreciates that he’s there to help, but they simply disagree about how to go about things and how she wound up where she is. He also may or may not hold past prejudices for her being not simply a templar, but one of Meredith’s. He sees her and fears the chance that red lyrium could somehow wrap itself around her, to steal away their once chance at saving the world.
Bonus round!
I need to think it out a bit more, but Olivia has a good chance of romancing Dagna :3 And along that line, she actually gets along quite well with Harritt and enjoys learning about crafting arms and armour from him.
She also befriends Adan and always goes to him when she needs to resupply on her personal lyrium stores. She usually hangs around for a bit, lending a friendly ear for him to bounce ideas for new recipes off of. He knows she’s bored to death by it, but the fact that she even tries warms his heart. But hell if he’ll ever tell her that.
And lastly Ashley Hawke. They are a bit unsure of each other at first. Ashley thinks Olivia looks vaguely familiar and the fact of the matter is they probably ran into each other once or twice in Kirkwall, but never much interacted. They end up getting along decently enough - friendly, for sure. More than Varric expected, if one were to ask him about it. They end up enjoying laughs about stories from Kirkwall and Ash enjoys telling stories of growing up in Ferelden. Annnd they do also 100% bang once before going to Crestwood. No strings attached and while Olivia can’t help but feel that extra flutter in her chest later on when talking to Ash or hearing about her, nothing ever happens beyond that. They remain friendly for as long as Ash hangs around to aide the Inquisition.
SO THERE YA GO. I’m sure at some point some of this may all change, lmao, she’s ever shifting but this was fun to answer! And I apologize it took me so long, I was noodling through it while at work (and also just didn’t get a chance to sit and work on it till well after getting home). And also that it’s so damn long lmao.

i love writing memes! E (are they from young avengers?), O (i love outlines!), T (theeemes are everywhere), W (i adore hearing about the favorite writers/writings of writers i enjoy). have a nice day tomorrow!
I do too! Thank you for asking me questions.
E. Who’s your favorite main character you’ve written?
Ooooh that is a tooouuugh one. Teddy from Young Avengers is pretty dang high up there (as are Varric and MacCready), but I think I’ve got to give this one to Carver Hawke. I went into Fire Walk with Me loving Carver. I came out very close to in love  Carver. Writers will know what I mean when I say he just effortlessly comes alive when I write him. I never doubt his voice or what he’s doing, and that kind of clarity is pretty damn rare.
Of my OCs...man. I think Garrett from Red Right Hand is my favorite. He’s really not a great guy, but he’s also a really great guy. He’s so charismatic and hot and a total jackass alpha, yet I adore him. I mean, I’d never want to meet him. I’d rather be BFFs with Taran or Aidan. But Garrett is the most fun to write because he’s so quicksilver in temper.
O. Do you believe in outlines? Show us one!
I do believe in outlines! I also believe that you should never live or die by an outline--if you’re following the outline and something doesn’t feel right, trust your gut and re-evaluate.
sample outline from Devil’s Spoke:
16. Finishsex. Cuddle through night. Hear noise and run—ice wall?17. Run runfight run—he sends her ahead. He escapes!18. Reunion. On boat. Heading for Starkhaven. THE END.
I can’t share the one from By Any Other Name, but I do have a chapter where the only note is “Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnngst”.
Ah, one from Across the Universe!
Chapter Three:
Least Complicated
Billy andTeddy meet—Jamie spots them. He wants to come along, but they demur—and becauseof mind-whammy, he doesn’t protest. Go to practice and have awkward boners.
...yup, awkward boners achieved.
T. Themes, motherfucker, do you have them? What are they?
I LOVE THEMES. Probably way too much. They’re difficult for me to put into words sometimes, but gosh darn I will try.
Teenage Wasteland is pretty obviously about bullying and the different forms it can take. Billy faces physical bullying in the form of Kessler. Teddy of course has Greg. Billy-and-Kessler feels pretty simple in comparison to Teddy-and-Greg, which was deliberate. I also wanted Greg to come off as a cartoonish villain at first and then establish layers as we go deeper with Teddy and see Greg’s silent desperation.
Identity is always a big theme whenever I write Teddy. My Teddy is very much questioning his gender.
Chantilly Lace is about masks, weaponized femininity, and how the things that make us strong can also make us weak.
Fire Walk with Me was intended to be a deconstruction of the soulmate. I wanted to take soulmates apart and study just how wrong they could go. Amusingly enough, I consider By Any Other Name my take on soulmates when they go “right”.
My upcoming Cullen/Trevelyan fic is still unfolding in my head, but I see it being all about the terrible things that happen when you try to “protect” people through ignorance. Keeping someone ignorant of a problem doesn’t keep them safe--it strips them of the ability to protect themselves.
W.  Who are your favorite writers?
GUY GAVRIEL KAY. He’s one of the biggest influences on my own writing. Tigana is just pure perfection. I can’t, I can’t, I can’t EVEN explain how deeply that book influenced me. I’m afraid to re-read it, because it shaped so much of who I am, and if it isn’t as brilliant as I remember, I’m not sure what I’d do.
Speaking of themes, Tigana taught me the concept of patriotism in the purest and most beautiful way possible. He writes villains that I care so very deeply for, which is why his books can be difficult to read. You don’t want ANYONE to lose. (But seriously, read Tigana.)
Classic Stephen King can be hit or miss, but when it’s a hit, there is real genius there. It’s really too bad it’s so hard to read some of his stuff thanks to the...less than great things that crop up. But the way he approaches description and mood-setting is pretty brilliant...sometimes. Like I said, he’s weirdly hit or miss.
You have a nice day too!

Confession:  I’m really into role playing, so when I want to play my main character in an rpg a certain way, I don’t change what my mc would do based off of my own moral standards. If there are characters that could disapprove of my actions then idgaf and I do it anyways lol. I once played a cold hearted (female dog) qunari who was just a total meanie to everybody. I executed everybody during judgment on the throne, killed the chargers, made the mages my slaves, punched solas, blamed Varric for hawke’s death, supported the return of the circles and basically every other choice that would be considered evil. Surprisingly Vivienne was my bff during that play through. I see it as just a game, it doesn’t represent what I would ACTUALLY do Ikr. It’s not like that play through is my main play through. I find making the same choices every single time is boring and I don’t understand how people have troubles making the evil decisions in video games. Like in Mass Effect when I would choose the renegade options my friend would freak out and say she could never pick those options because they’re not nice. It’s just a game guys, chill lmao

Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Age
i cant tell you how fucking delighted i am that someone sent me a ff13 ask. why doesn't everyone send me ff13 asks. someone come fucking talk to me about this fucking game it's full of beautiful and layered women who are probably gay and the protagonist has pin k hair
hey will someone send me ff13/cambionverse, lightning and claire are the same goddamn character
final fantasy xiii vs dragon age:
the characters i’d ship: listen ff13 is full of hot queer-coded girls so i could ship nearly any of them with isabela but that's a little too easy (fang and isabela tho good lord theyre both so gay). actually? snow and morrigan, because he's so annoyingly persistent about being your friend and she needs someone reliable who won't easily be pushed away. he'd do really well with leliana for that reason, too - plus when their optimistic natures began to wear away, they'd have each other to pick them back up.
the characters who would be BFFs: purple hawke and sazh would get along like a house on fire like can you think of a more comedic duo? no. she'd get along really well with snow, too, i think, just because that upbeat perseverance is kinda his thing and he'd be happy to have someone boosting him along rather than trying to drag him down. also, varric would get a huge kick out of both fang and snow.
the characters who would be enemies: sera would absolutely hate lightning. too uptight, a position of authority? no way, dude.
the characters who would be allies: lightning and cassandra. they stuck with the authority powers as long as they could, but they knew damn well when it was time to turn on their own organizations, and they're both badass, determined, and unafraid of dying. neither of them lack conviction, which i think each woman would find incredibly refreshing and reassuring; they'd have a lot of respect for each other.
the characters who would be allies, but reluctantly: lightning would be pretty wary of anders (because she'd think he was unpredictable and dangerous and she doesn't know if she can appeal to his reason), who would be equally wary of her (because he thinks she's unpredictable and ruthless and he doesn't know if he can appeal to her heart), but they ultimately have similar goals, so they'd get over it for the sake of those goals. i also think cullen would sympathize greatly with cid, but in the end would ultimately turn on him when he crossed that last line.
the characters who would drive each other bananas: sazh Could Not Take isabela flirting with him. he'd have a total meltdown. which means she would keep doing it until he got genuinely upset with her and then they'd just argue. also varric would pester lightning CONSTANTLY about what her real name is, and she would get EXTREMELY annoyed, oh my god. i think noel would also really dislike cole because cole would keep coming in and talking about how he's the last living human in his time and noel would be like CAN YOU STOP I DON'T WANT TO THINK ABOUT THAT and cole would make that sad puppy face he makes and i would be sad about it
the characters i think are the most alike: vanille and merrill are a lot alike! peppy and young and secretly a bit sad. isabela and fang strike me as similar, too; go-getters, flirty, etc.
my favorite character from each fandom & how i think they would get along: fang & fenris. honestly, if she wasn't a lesbian, i'd ship them, but she is a lesbian (i don't care, i DON'T CARE, she is, she was originally written as a male and vanille's love interest, she's fucking gay), so i think they'd be besties instead. he wouldn't like her at first, she's a bit too forward, but like with isabela he'd get used to it and then come to like it about her - it'd be nice for him not be treated so delicately, yk? meanwhile on fang's end once they became good friends she's got someone who'll have her back thick & thin and probably feel equally as strongly about protecting vanille as she does

I won't hesitate, bitch and Wrow for any of your Ocs? :)
Thank you so much! I’m just going answer for a bunch of them randomly.
I Won’t Hesitate, Bitch - Who are your OC’s close friends?
I’m a sucker for friends to lovers so outside of romantic partners the biggest one is Hawke and Varric. They are the best-est of friends. BFFs 5EVA! Hawke is friends with everyone but Varric can read her like an open book and always knows when something’s up.
The other major one is Marie and Thane. Their friendship is so important to her and really helps shape the person she becomes. It’s not an easy hole to fill once he’s gone.
Wrow - Is your OC good at flirting?
Enarin is the best at flirting. He and Bull could totally have a flirt off because they’re both very good at reading a situation and coming up with the best approach (smooth, friendly, sexy, etc). Izzy Ryder takes a more direct approach to flirting but she’s a close second.
Worst at flirting is Marie. The whole awkward reach and flexibility conversation with Garrus is about her speed. Honestly they’re both really bad at trying to flirt. The flirting is much better when they don’t actively try.
Best at flirting without trying is Thanatos. In fact, he doesn’t want to flirt, he is in no way trying to flirt, but he’s so naturally smooth and slightly otherworldly that things just come across that way. If he decides he wants to flirt though, watch out, swooning is imminent.
