Nekomata cosplay for Halloween Part 3: Preliminary sketches (Props and Accessories!!!!)

There are four main accessories that I am considering making for Sumire. The necklace key (which turns into her scythe) is the one that I am most likely to make for Halloween, since i would consider it an official part of her costume.

BUT, to me personally, the most important one is the basket that Sumire has in Night 2 of book one. First of all, it’s a way to make a con bag!!! Meaning whenever I take this cosplay to a con I can go feral in the Artist alley/buy larger items than when I have a smaller con bag 😈😈😈. Second of all, the fruits!! I’m thinking either I’ll sew or crochet some stuffed apples and squash, so that they have some give when the flap opens, and their plushie nature will make them absolutely adorable!! 

and there is something else I can try to make as a plush… the mouse!!!!!!!! I’m thinking of using it as the ‘knob’ that I pull up to open the bag… and I can make the tail into a loop that will hold the lid open!!!!! 

Now, can I make plushies? Not yet! (<— Cosplayer hubris)

Having a basket as a con bag is exciting for me, because I will then have a perfect cottagecore bag!!! (Sophie Hatter anyone??) My inspiration would be this tiktok by @/lee.kuma

The lantern would likely not be brought to any cons, but it would look sick for a few photos. However, I want this lantern!! Literally just to have as home decor! I had a little adventure with the design on the glass. There is a tiny illegible hint of a word on it. I guessed that it was the name of the maid agency, Cirsium, because it was one word that started with the letter 'C'. After rereading the first manga, I was able to confirm this! They have a binder in a few panels with the same thistle logo, so I think it's their company logo! (And Cirsium is legible!!)

This is also me slipping into dream props, so the likelihood of me actually making this is low. 🙊

The scythe is another prop that I likely wont make, simply because I don’t want to make a scythe. 😶

This is a situation where if there is demand for it, I could end up making it, but large weapons take up a lot of storage space, so I’m sticking to ones I genuinely want. *cough* Alice: Madness Returns red hobby horse hammer *cough*

This year for Halloween I was Azems summoning circle. Immensely proud of how this turned out and that I get to summon my friends from around the world on a regular basis.

💥I know I usually only post Whump writing here but GUYSSSS CHECK OUT MY AWESOME DIY ENDER DRAGON HALLOWEEN COSTUME!!!💥 😱😱😱

I haven't shared this before, but along with writing Whump stories my other secret talent is that I make cool crafts and projects like this one. I made the realistic Ender Dragon from a game called Minecraft! My little sister is Alexa from the same game so that our costumes work together as a pair.

But isn't it cool??? I've worn this costume for over 4 Halloweens now, and I LOVE all the reactions I get from kids! It makes me feel like a celebrity because everyone wants to take pictures with me and gets super excited when they see me.

This is a quadrapedal costume which means I'm walking on all fours with stilts to lengthen my arms. I wear a special handmade steel ribcage around my torso that the wings slide into and lock in place so they don't fall out. I made the head and tail out of cardboard boxes and colored paper.

What's funny is that with the way the head is built, I actually can't see anything because I'm facing the ground the whole time (there's no eye-holes in front). So I have my little sister walk right in front of me to "lead" me along because I can only see the back of her feet when I'm walking in costume.

I LOVE my costume so much because I'm actually neurodivergent and SUPER shy, but I don't have to feel self-conscious or socially awkward when I'm in the costume because no one can see my face! I can just be myself and not worry about judgement on my appearances since no one can actually see me inside the Ender Dragon (I'm nervous about my looks). It's a perfect fit for me!

EVERY PART of this costume is 100% handmade by me with the help of my dad, and it takes several people to help me put it on. But the results are AMAZING, aren't they??!? I'm so excited to bring it out this year!

It takes a LOT of physical strength and energy to move in this costume because both the ribcage and wing structure are made of steel, but it's worth it for all the fun reactions I get from both kids and adults alike. My back is always soooooo sore by the end LOL 😂😂

I'll post a video and more pictures later showing how the costume fits together for any of those who are curious. I put so much hard work into this.

I feel like since it's an election year and there's like. a week between halloween and the election it should be 100% okay to just like... let halloween go on a little longer. let the halloween spirit bleed into the days ahead. watch that spooky movie. keep those plastic skeletons up til tomorrow. get that discount candy. let it be like those six days between Christmas and new years. it's one of the most nerve-wracking weeks of the decade and if keeping halloween around a little longer helps you keep it together then fuck it. that's what you do.

I apologize for the belated Part 2. Somehow managed to get myself in a bunch of extremely distracting situations over the past month and completely forgot about my Halloween post. Anyways, Here are all the props i made for my Herbert West Cosplay/Costume! Kinda did the finger creature last minute so its a bit fugly.😞(and dropped it accidently and cracked in a bit[eyeball lower right corner]). I'll post some pictures of the complete costume at some point. I promise....ill definitly not forget about it or something...
