Summary: After successfully running away from your past, it all comes crashing down 10 years later on a cold, snowy Halloween night.

Halloween Night - 2019

Scandia, Minnesota

“A KitKat for the witch, oooh and how about a Snickers for Spider Man?” You fawned over the two small children proudly wearing their costumes, settling the candy in each of their buckets, waving to their parents as they took off back down the sidewalk with unadulterated childhood delight.

You smiled, looking around as the neighborhood was beginning to grow quiet in the cool night. The visitors went from a steady stream to trickling at this point.

A Halloween movie marathon was playing in the background as you shut the door and made your way back into the living room to make yourself cozy on the sofa once more. Your eyes grow heavy the closer the clock edges past 10 pm.

The doorbell chime caught your attention, rousing you from a soft doze as you stood, stretching. In your half dazed state, you grabbed the bowl of candy not realizing it was far too late for any more youngsters.

You shuffled to the door, sweater falling off your shoulder, swinging it open with as much enthusiasm that you could muster but there was no one there. No black cat or Buzz Light-year standing in the doorway begging for a treat.

With bleary eyes, you blink a few times, stepping out onto the porch with your worn house slippers looking around with a slight uneasy feeling creeping up your spine.

Your breath blows visible in the air, as you wrap your free arm around yourself. A new blanket of snow sparkled under the moonlight, with a fresh set of footprints visible, leading to the side yard, prints larger than any child could make suddenly setting you on high alert.

Slow and methodically you start to back up into the house, spotting movement just out of the corner of your eye. Quickly, you turn your head in time to see a shadow move out of your line of vision and into the nearby trees.

“Shit,” hissing low under your breath, moving a little faster and slamming the door as soon as you made it back into the foyer. Your hands moved to lock and deadbolt it as quickly as possible, keeping your eyes fixed firmly out into the yard through the front door windows.

Maybe some teenagers were trying to play a trick on you, but something deep down told you otherwise as you decidedly moved to the kitchen.

There were two choices, pretend you hadn't seen whoever's shadow that was and hope they were playing a harmless prank or prepare for a fight that was years in the making.

You didn't own a gun, too many questions and a background check would have immediately drawn attention, although right now you wish you had something other than just kitchen knives.

The sliding back door was locked, but it was the most vulnerable entry point. You made no attempt to hide, standing there in the kitchen light, moving across the door and looking out across the frozen yard. This was it, making it very clear you weren't going to make it easy for them.

You crossed back into the living room, about to shut the TV off, when a loud crash of glass shattering echoed through the house. Wasting no time, you ran out into the foyer and climbed up the stairs two at a time, without looking back. Your heart was hammering in your chest as you made it to the second floor landing and rushed down the hall.

The blood coursing through your veins was thoroughly spiked with adrenaline as you made it to the bedroom, the last room at the end of the hall, leaving the door open you quietly lean down and crawl under the bed with the large knife gripped tight and at the ready.

It was quiet, too quiet, as you waited for any sounds of the intruder, trying to steady your now rapid breathing but all you could hear was the TV from downstairs.

A few more excruciating moments of silence that seemed to stretch on forever and then you hear it, the unmistakable sound of heavy footfalls against the old hardwood floor.

Thump. Thump. Thump. They were taking a leisurely pace down the hall, as if they hadn't just broken into your home. They stop, just as the door across from yours slowly creaks open.

Shuffling and banging around momentarily startles you, but you stay quiet, clasping a hand over your mouth. Your eyes remain glued to the bottom of the doorframe.

You hold your breath as a pair of black tactical boots come into view, pausing momentarily as they take in the layout of the room. They edge toward the closet and pull open the door, instantly ripping clothes from hangers and shoving things out of the way littering the floor below.

They let out a frustrated sigh, muttering a muffled “shit,” turning toward the bed. It feels like time stands still as you try not to make a sound but draw the knife closer to your body.

They whirl slightly back toward the door and take a step as you let out a breath you had been holding, closing your eyes.

Leather suddenly creaks in the dark, making your head jerk toward the sound at the end of the bed.

Your eyes grow wide at the sight of a masked figure looking back at you but before your brain can process a decent thought, a large hand wraps around your ankle yanking you forcefully from your hiding place as you let out a squeak of surprise. The knife slips from your hand as you claw to get it back, hanging onto it with everything you have.

They pull you further out into the open as you begin to kick and thrash, screaming out. The carpet burns your bare torso, with your sweater rising up from the force of it all.

A few grunts and protests from them, but it's to no avail, their grip is tight, bruisingly so. You grapple for purchase a few more moments, grabbing the bottom of the bedpost as you force your free leg back into their shin as hard as you can.

“Fuck!” They hiss, releasing your ankle but quickly regaining composure and forcefully holding onto your hip, pressing you further into the carpeting as you let go of the bed pulling the knife toward you, hoping they hadn't spotted it.

You close your eyes as both of their large hands easily flip you over on your back. Your eyes snap back open, suddenly face to face with a Jack Skellington mask.

Your lips quirk into a small smirk as they tilt their head down at you curiously. Time to act, grabbing the knife and slicing toward them as fast and hard as you could.

They see the glint once you brandish your weapon and lean back, dodging most of the blow as it grazes their bicep with a hiss and growl, briefly gripping their arm before quickly turning their attention back to you.

“Goddamnit!” They grit, easily overpowering you, grabbing your wrist as you tried to take another swing and tossing the knife across the room.

“Fuck you!” You spit, thrashing as they pin your arms above your head and throw their leg over you, straddling your waist, pinning you down as you continue to kick.

“Goddamn, just as fiery as ever! Should've known this wouldn't be easy!” He bellows out, muffled through the mask but your eyes narrow warily at the voice. Your face morphs into confusion, followed with a sudden flash of recognition passing over your features.

It couldn't be. Your gaze lingers on the mask for a moment, trailing downward. A leather jacket, paired with black tactical pants and a thigh holster. No. Anyone but him.

“Gator?” You rasp out, trying to swallow the lump in your throat.

His name hangs thickly between you, tilting his head as if debating with himself before heavily sighing and maneuvering his hands around so only his left still has both your wrists pinned above you.

He lifts the other, finally ripping the mask from his face. You stare into those once familiar, hazel eyes that suddenly thrust you back into a landslide of memories and emotions. A far cry from the boy you once knew, a man before you now.

“Hey Sunshine.” He says with that lopsided grin that used to give you butterflies, a nonchalance about the entire situation that has you stunned, the urge to fight suddenly draining from your body.

“That damn mask was gettin’ hot.” He adds, tossing it somewhere across the room.

“Wh— What the hell are you doing here?” Asking, when you already know the answer but your mind is unwilling to believe it.

“What do you think?” Leaning a little further into your space. “Roy sent me.”

“Gator, you can't take me back there. You know exactly what's waiting for me.” You rush out, a million scenarios running through your mind.

You'd expected this eventually, always looking over your shoulder but never could have imagined it would be Gator coming to collect.

FinnLo Math

Hi, welcome to Lucky's hyper fixation at the current moment

For the past two weeks I have binge read Sweater Weather, Vaincre, and Coast to Coast by the lovely @lumosinlove and just want to say, Jesus Christ. I have actually fallen in love with O'Nutzy SO HARD and they are amazing and I'm absolutely a slave to Harvard Era FinLo. To @lumosinlove, this is a masterpiece and now I want to watch hockey, you've infected me.

Anyway, with credits out of the way, I did some math, (get ready for Harvard era FinLo math under cut)

*Disclaimer: None of these characters are mine and I did not create this story, so everything I say may be completely incorrect. Any of this may be disproven in Breakaway, which I don't/won't have the ability to read. Most of this is based off cannon times and events within the Sweater Weather universe, but I have made clear where cannon ends and my assumptions begin. Again, these are not my characters and all credit goes to @lumosinlove, This is not making fun of, patronizing, or degrading the all around fantastic story they have created, and is simply pointing out things I have noticed.*

Now in Coast to Coast, I noticed some strange things that Finn says. He tells Logan he's been in love with him for eight years, right? And over the course of the story Logan mentions he's loved Finn for 7 at some point (that may actually be in Vaincre, if it is the math lines up so that's a testy point). And when they kissed in part V of Coast to Coast it said it had been four years since they last kissed. This threw me off, because I knew this was, what, early January of 2020 in universe.

So I did some digging. Finn is a year older than Logan, meaning when Logan came to Harvard in 2014 (codified in Coast to Coast part VII, the very start, includes sexy Batman during Logan's first Halloween party at Harvard), he would have been a Freshman while Finn was a Sophomore.

Now it isn't clear whether their first kiss in 2015 was when at the end of the 2014-2015 school year or the start of the 2015-2016 school year (though Logan doesn't have a car, so that lends a little more credibility to Logan still being a Freshman, but it kinda seems like Logan never has a car in general, even in Sweater Weather and Vaincre). I tend to think it's the start of the 2015-16 school year because that's when Finn met Hanna, and those sorts of things don't really carry over after being apart for the summer. Anyway, this means it would be Finn's Junior year.

Now their last kiss before Finn leaves is supposedly in May of 2016, which was part II in Coast to Coast, but that doesn't make sense because it is stated that they are only one year apart,

[I'm pretty sure at least. Later in Coast to Coast it mentions Finn's rookie year and it's said that it was only one (1) really bad year without Logan (same goes for Logan as a senior) before Logan is drafted to the Lions after he graduates. This means they're only one year apart, so the 2016 thing I believe to be wrong]

and if you do the math with Logan being a Freshman in the 2014-2015 school year, he would be a Junior when Finn is a Senior in the 2016-2017 school year (I have a whole timeline trust me on this, it'll be at the bottom). So theoretically their last kiss would have been in May of 2017.

Now their next kiss in in January of 2020. Based off of the very beginning of Sweater Weather, the time period of the fic is the 2019 NHL season, so starting in September, it would be January of 2020 when Remus and Sirius' photos got leaked, right before All-stars, which Logan was going on. The same day the photos are leaked, Finn and Logan kiss for the first time since May of 2017.

If you tally it up, it would be 2 years and 7 months since they had last kissed: Seven months left in 2017, plus all of 2018 and 2019 {Essentially (7+12+12)/12}. Notably, not four years.

[If we are going on the timeline where the last kiss is in 2016, it would be 3 years and 7 months, which would be much more reasonable to say four years; however, that timeline is a little jacked so.]

The other thing that threw me off is Finn saying he'd been in love with Logan for eight years, which I also believe to be wrong.

Finn says to Logan when they are officially getting together in part V of Coast to Coast that he'd loved Logan for eight years, which doesn't make sense if they only just met in August of 2014.

To put it simply, they wouldn't have known each other for eight years. Again, if you tally it up, that's five months in 2014, five years, and then about half a month in 2020. {Essentially (5 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 12 + 1/2) / 12}. Let's just say they've known each other for 5 years and 6 months. Again, not eight years.

There is the concern of not loving each other when they first met, but Finn does say that he had loved Logan since the moment he saw him at the training camps in 2014, which would have been when they first met, so we can disregard any buffer time.

[And I am about 90% sure that August of 2014 was when they first met because during the Halloween party scene in part VII of Coast to Coast Logan talks about how Finn is his "new roommate" and they'd only just met. I could be wrong.]

And about Logan saying he'd loved Finn for seven years, I don't remember if it is in Coast to Coast which ends in 2020 or in Vaincre which goes until summer of 2021. If it is in Vaincre, this is a totally moot point because it's correct for about 7 years, but if it's in Coast to Coast (thinking on it now it may even be in Sweater Weather, either one would be off), then it wouldn't have been 7 years, but anywhere between 5-6 years. I would need to go back and find the part.

Other Interesting Math Things I figured out while Hyper fixating:

Alex O'Hara:

In Vaincre it says that Alex had to come from somewhere other than Harvard to see Finn in the hospital after he had gotten his first concussion, meaning he wasn't attending Harvard at the time. Vaincre also introduces a whole gang of people who were all on the Harvard team at the same time, which included Alex and Logan. So there had to be at least one year where they were on it together, and I assume it's probably Logan's freshman year.

When Finn's concussion happens is never explicitly stated, but I am assuming it's Finn's Junior year based on Finn and Logan's relationship at the time (pinning and extremely reserved while not awaiting Finn leaving (all this is coming from Logan talking about the concussion in Vaincre)).

With all this to say, I can assume Alex was a Senior in the 2014-2015 school year, left to join Florida's team in 2015-2016 and met Kasey down there in their rookie year. (Obviously they proceeded to fall in love as all good O'Hara's do: fall in love with their best friend.)

Leo Knut:

*open's mouth* *closes mouth* *opens mouth again* *looks down at the ground* Leo was in 8th grade when Finn and Logan met.

Leo was 18 at the start of Sweater Weather (2019) with a birthday somewhere in Nov-Dec, so theoretically he would have been a Senior in High School the year before. If you just tick back the years, that would put him in 8th grade during the 2014-2015 school year.

Not anything important I just stumbled across it and thought it was worth sharing, may as well make this post longer.

All in All List of Math:

Logan and Finn's last kiss before Finn left for Gryffindor would have been in May of 2017 not 2016

Their next kiss would be 2 years and 7 months later, not 4 years later

Finn and Logan have been in love since they met in August of 2014, meaning they've been in love for 5 years and 6 months, not eight years.

Do you have any fave movies that befit autumn? (asking because I'm obsessed with the winter/holiday recommendations you gave last year)

I'm so glad you liked the winter reccs!

Autumn is a tough one for movies, much tougher than winter, but I put some thought into it 🙏 To me, autumn is about coziness, warm tones, the end of things. I have spent Thanksgiving alone for most of the past decade-- I make turkey bacon and watch mumblecore movies by myself all day (Frances Ha always, a Whit Stilman often), so loneliness comes into my feeling for the season too... Comfortable, but a little alone. Therefore, a lot of these movies are somber, elegiac. But hopeful and warm, too.

So, 10 movies that feel like autumn to me, in chronological order:

WHEN HARRY MET SALLY (1989): obvious, perhaps, but an autumnal movie of all time. The sweaters, the scene where they walk through central park in the fall, the passing of time... some people say this is a New Year's movie because it ends on New Year's Eve, but I say the pinnacle is the scene at the temple of Dendur in the Met, which is AUTUMN!!

GHOSTBUSTERS (1984): maybe it's because I just watched it, but it feels like autumn to me! The jumpsuits, the halloween (ghosts) of it all, the warmth of the filmstock and the mess of the firehouse, the sportcoats and sweaters.

FLATLINERS (1990): a movie I'm deeply biased towards, but!! it's literally a Halloween movie, there's a cool wind blowing through the whole picture, there are ghosts and sins and dead leaves and then! the promise of a future, of more life.

NOTTING HILL (1999): rom com + beautiful people + london + books. I actually cannot remember what time of year this movie takes place, but it feels like september to me.

ALL THE REAL GIRLS (2003): sometimes you walk home from a date and the air is crisp and cool and cutting through your hair and the whole world feels full of possibility. That's how this movie feels to me.

FANTASTIC MR. FOX (2009): It would be easy to put any number of Wes Anderson movies onto an autumn list, but this is the most autumn of all. Corduroy and yellow leaves, curling up in a nest for the chilly season, finding that there's a place for you in the world, even if you're little (and weird)

FRANCES HA (2012): Not technically autumnal but it is to me. It's the bittersweetness of growing up and growing apart, the black and white cinematography, the part where she goes to Paris-- and I watch it every year on Thanksgiving, so I have a bias. It feels like fall to me. It feels like a turning season.

JACKIE (2016): set in November (so explicitly autumn), chilly, sad. feels right on a cool, rainy day to sit in the hope we used to have, the possibilities that felt ahead of us, the dream, the fairy tale

THE OLD MAN AND THE GUN (2018): wind through wheat fields, old Robert Redford being charming, the end of a career and a life, but still there's love and life and joy to be had

FIRST COW (2019): warm, loving, baked goods, intimacy, a little house, sweeping the front stoop, the countryside, the forest

I know these are all quite modern (for some reason older movies tend to lean summer or winter for me... hmmm....), but I hope these are slightly interesting picks! Enjoy!!

In Danger of Overheating - 3k, DickTim. Dick is not sulking after being confronted with certain truths, and he is definitely handling the unexpected scantily clad catboy in his apartment in an adult manner. Really.

ten movies i love

in actually a very specific order

1. clue (1985) this is my absolute favorite movie ever. a whodunit with tim curry (and an overall incredible cast) and three different endings? perfect. i could watch this movie every single day and never get bored!!!

2. 10 things i hate about you (1999) i’d like to thank my mom for forcing me to watch this at 17 bc i was just like kat, i’ve loved it every day since and regularly refer to myself as a heinous bitch with a smile :)

3. she’s all that (1999) this is just such a weird, quintessential 90s teen movie and i love it. i don’t think i’ve ever met anyone else who has even seen this movie (other than people i’ve made watch it) which is honestly such a shame. it’s got 3/5 of mystery inc and rachael leigh cook and dule hill! how could you not love it!

4. lost boys (1987) the movie that made me love vampires!!! another my mom forced me to watch this movie, but god did i latch onto it. this was probably my first hyperfixation movie aside from harry potter, bc i watched this every single day the summer after fifth grade

5. top gun: maverick (2022) honestly we should all be surprised that this movie is this low on my top ten list, but that just tells u how much i love the others. i’m never not thinking about this movie. i never don’t want to watch this movie. if possible i’d inject it into my veins because it makes me insane !

6. interview with the vampire (1994) the movie that not only solidified my love for vampires but also my love for tc. i love the show as well but Nothing will ever top this absolute classic in my mind, and i so wish we’d gotten an entire vampire chronicles movie series with these actors

7. top gun (1986) … yes there’s another tc movie on here, yes they’re all three back-to-back-to-back. if you’re reading this you should genuinely not be surprised.

8. you’ve got mail (1998) if anyone ever dares to say anything bad about this movie, they’ll never hear from me again. i love this movie and this story and these characters and these actors so stupid much, and i still cry every time at don’t cry, shopgirl

9. scream (1996) ultimate comfort movie fr. don’t ask me why a movie that traumatized me in middle school that i saw for the first time on a night that also traumatized me is now a comfort movie bc i don’t know. but it is. the fact that i don’t have two boyfriends to dress up as billy and stu for halloween is actually severely homophobic

10. knives out (2019) i love complicated whodunits, i love chris evans esp in certain sweaters, i love benoit blanc and marta cabrera, i love the coffee mug. nothing bad about this movie except the vomit ew
