So I saw someone had liked my reblog, I look at the name and think “that’s probably a pornbot” so I click on the account to make sure I’m correct about that and to report and block. What do I see? Genuine fucking porn, getting reblogged by other porn posting pornbots. I was exquisitely shocked, so now that I have reported and blocked the first actually pornographic porn bot I have personally seen, I thought to ask if this is just something I hadn’t encountered before or if this is a new pornbot evolution. Dost thou know?

A: I spent four hours making a spreadsheet and tried to weed out all the characters we can’t post here. If a character I missed pops up and I post it I’ll take it down and post a new one.

A: I’m really into Coral island as of late. Fire emblem has always had a special place in my heart. I also have been playing a ton of Identity V as of late. (I’m a college student so I can really only watch anime)

Yesterday morning, I was reintroducing my grumpy timid cat to a super friendly cat I will be cat-sitting for the next month or so, which was super fun and one of my special interests. After that, I was chillin with my fandom homies while we played Jackbox and heard each other's voices for the first time ever (voices that were audibly referencing Vader's Uterus lmfao so I was pretty ecstatic). After that, I played around with my INCREDIBLE Vader bop-it toy that I bought yesterday based on a friend's recommendation. My first Hasbro merch ever. :) I'm in love and I still can't believe it's a real thing that exists.

At that point, I checked Tumblr and... yeah, admittedly I panicked a little because I was a bit scared I'd soon get a bunch of angry asks screaming at me for being a meanyhead (to beat a horse dead, this is just a regular run-of-the-mill anxiety of having a fandom blog and it is absolutely nobody's fault). So I spent an hour or so chatting with a friend until I felt better and then I quickly made the post in question regarding my follower count so that, despite the bewildering attention Five Peggats Each has gotten, everyone would know the truth about my lack of influence lmao. (This is a compliment. From me to me. I like my lack of influence. I'm not fucking kidding lol. I actually have panic attacks sometimes about the idea of becoming internet famous. I literally don't want that lmao. Fifty to a hundred followers is an A+ amount imo, so it's about time I guess it's about time I start losing those pornbots lmfaoo.) Anyway, last night was probably the first time I've checked my follower count in the entire history of this blog tbh. So like, you're being super sweet, anon, and I'm hoping other people will see this too because it's absolutely true and I think your words would be very encouraging and reassuring to anyone who sees this!! But I promise you that my activity log statistics and teh amount of followers I have are not things I spend time thinking about.

Once that was all taken care of, I wrote/edited a little bit for my fic for QuinObi week (SO EXCITED! Literally just a few more days!). Then at around 4am, I woke up with middle-of-the-night epiphanies on how to phrase a couple things/finish/tidy up my thoughts for that Fox opinions post, and I lay in bed working on that for an hour or so. After that, I went back to sleep, woke up, chatted with the fandom homies again, and then, ever since, I've been playing a video game I've been dying to play all week. Until about an hour ago, I literally had no idea what may or may not have been going down on Tumblr, and I wasn't thinking about it at all. And now that I've enjoyed myself on Tumblr for the day, I'm probably gonna invite my mom up tonight so she can spend time with the cats while I use her as a captive audience to talk about Vader's Uterus lmfao. And then at about 10pm, I'm gonna head bed because I work for a living and I forgot to ask if I get the holiday off.

All of this to say I am fine!! I'm just chilling, living my life, doing my own thing. For me, Tumblr is like a fun thing to check out every once in a while, the same way I spent time playing my video game, enjoying my Vader bop-it toy, hoarsing around with the cats, or anything else that strikes my fancy. Kidney stones and abusive ex-bosses are the things I worry about, not like.... a pixelated number on a screen lmao. In other words, this is a hobby to me, not a livelihood, and if I wasn't enjoying my time here, I literally would not log on (and sometimes I don't log on! For days and days at a time. This scene in the game really hit me in the feels.  Sole wakes up from the big freeze after witnessing their spouse get brutally murdered defending their baby.  They went to sleep as the bombs had fallen.  And wake up 200 years later to the aftermath.  It's just a truly tragic scene that really resonated with me.

Yeah.  It wasn't pleasant and ended in legal measures being taken against the other blog.  And made me really see I had to be careful with who I trusted online after everything was done and over with.

I dislike them.  I don't reblog them. The whole trying to guilt me thing puts me off them.  I don't mind awareness posts.  I've reblogged some and often times I'll click on the links to do my research before donating.  Somehow it's difficult to trust Tumblr links so I try to fact check before I post now.  Not always successful but I'm human.

You know I’m just gonna reveal something kind of silly yet intriguing. I may not really go that serious with it.

There was I think I may of thought of it like a comedic idea. It was the idea after Rebirth or it may still take place in 2002. But it was the idea of Archie, Elizabeth with the help of Lutece Twins going into multiple dimensions. The goal being to kill every Frank Fontaine in each dimension. 

At first Archie is a bit concerned that I recall. Where he’s thinking about if he should go through with this. Until the twins tell him there is a dimension where Frank performed a crude lobotomy on Elizabeth and beat her to death later. That’s Burial At Sea the twins are talking about. 

After that Arch basically loads a shotgun and tells Elizabeth let’s go as he’s like this. I was trying to look for this picture but it’s a video lol.

Yet I have thought to myself and reading more about Burial At Sea. Even though the dimension hopping is more of a joke part. The concept of Archie going to many dimensions to kill a Fontaine in that. Because Frank is such a horrible person who ruined peoples lives, including his. 

But I have realized and worried that such a thing would be Arch’s downfall. Especially bringing his girlfriend into it. Basically Archie experiencing his own Burial At Sea. Which I really wouldn’t want to do that. 

Also the fact Burial At Sea breaking the multiverse is the reason why and more dimensions exist. Specifically Rebirth being the biggest one.

But I think I was more disturbed by not doing this is my anonymous friend who has helped me with this AU literally mentioned I just snipped what they said.

That idea disturbed me. Even though I have thought about the choices part in Rebirth. Despite what I’m writing is in the canon. Interestingly I did thought about Archie along with Elizabeth and Brigid meeting an Atlas who is actually real....yet he still did shitty things but he changed as a person.

Basically and I joked about this with @feckinatlas​ They met the Radioboy version of Atlas. And oh man.....it was something. I thought of it like if The Dark Knight universe(Yet I wanna say the DCEU Batman stuff because Zack inspired me mostly) meeting the 60′s Batman show. 

It was such a weird and funny crossover. Mainly if I do more of this idea. It’s just silly crossovers of these three meeting other versions of themselves. I’ve had ideas.

But as of now considering I just made some memes that represented what I have joked with to Feckinatlas. I was also blocking what I think to me are pornbots that were following this blog. Because I saw a woman with tits showing her hairy privates....I took a pic of the top half but nothing much for proof...it was fucking nasty....

Anyway I wanted to talk about and reveal this. Considering before making this. I was reading through this story of Frank Fontaine beating the shit out of Jack in a surface AU story. I’m vehemently tired of having sexuality, especially women’s sexuality and LGBT sexuality, being a taboo to explore and appreciate in online communities. Sexuality and the safety of exploring it is SO fucking important to me, and I’m so absolutely tired of being mistreated because I and so many others want to embrace it!

Tumblr was a sanctuary for sexual exploration. A lot of people make fun of the artists that flocked here and what they brought to the market, but something you have to realize is that this is the only real place where we felt safe being able to create such things and being able to share them with others with similar interests. DeviantART is the only other fandom-strong artistic social media platform that really exists, and it’s been geared since inception for younger demographics. Tumblr was made home for those adult artists that enjoyed the base community of DeviantART and wanted freedom from such restriction so they could safely explore their more sexual nature.

There’s nothing. Fucking. Wrong with that!

Tumblr staff scoffs at us, saying “there are plenty of other places where you can look at pornography. Fuck off to one of those if you want to be dirty, you heathens.” And you know what? They’re wrong! Booru, Paheal, Newgrounds, PornHub, they’re not the fucking same. You know what all these websites have in common? Heterosexual dominance. There’s nothing inherently wrong about that, but it means in essence that these websites have communities who share in heterosexual content, and they’re more than often geared toward men. There’s literally almost no place that’s as big as tumblr that was such a sanctuary for LGBT people and women (both straight and otherwise) to explore their sexuality. It’s gone now!

And you know what? I’m sick and tired of it! I’m sick of not having a good place where I can find work that appeals to my sexual tastes! I’m tired of people crying “but think of the children!!” when we literally had in place adequate failsafes to protect younger viewers in the first place! And you know what, I’m more than tired of people defending the corporations that put in place these sudden violent changes in viewpoints with arguments just like that! There was a safe mode, there were tag blocks, there was literally everything in place to protect younger viewers and those not interested in adult content in the first place!

Tumblr staff didn’t make their decision because they wanted to harbor a more friendly and inclusive community, and the very fact that they think we’d believe that crock of shit is disgustingly offensive. They did it for money. That’s all there is to it. They wanted to try and get more money off advertisement funds that felt unholy for being placed alongside such a sex-friendly community. They did it so they could stay in the good graces of the appstore markets. If they were truly concerned with the safety of others and the inclusiveness of a community then they wouldn’t have stopped at fighting the outbreak of child pornography, they would have continued by removing the white supremacists, the TERFS, the actual real life nazis, the people who actively promote the destruction and deaths of others for nothing other than being what they were born as.

And the VERY FACT that they continue to allow pornbots to run rampant, hijacking URLs from people that were erased from existence and spreading their virus-laden filth across the site, the very fact that they allow ads with adult content to continue to roll on their website, and the very fact that these ACTUALLY HARMFUL blogs are allowed to run completely free is a perfectly lucid indication of their disgustingly hypocritic nature. And the shameful lies they they’ll sneer through their teeth, scoffing at the perceived intelligence of the very users that popularized their poorly maintained property is icing on the fucking cake.

This is why I’m supporting the return of the citrus scale, and why I’m calling for all hands on deck. Keep spreading your adult content on here, keep exploring your sexuality. To protect those that do not want to see our content, use the read-mores. Use the tags that will be the next wave of our reign. Use these tools that Staff bequeathed to us and fight back against their shitty management and tyranny! This sanctuary belongs to US! The people! They shall not listen to reason, so we shall protest the only way we can: by smearing this site with cocks and coochie in the most blatantly secure way possible. And there’s nothing they can do to fucking stop us.

Here’s your proof that tumblr’s TOS change is, and always was, done in bad faith

Today’s episode of Tumblr Is a Shitshow is called “Sage Gets An Email.”

First of all, lemme just say I was one of the lucky ones. I saw the writing on the wall the day they announced the changes would be coming, and set out to back up my tumblr (using external tools, not tumblr’s, because it was broken and frankly I don’t trust it anyway) immediately. My tumblr’s information is all stored on my computer, safe from tumblr’s own meddling. I might lose some gifs or pictures, but if I never downloaded them before now, I probably won’t miss them later.

I had stuff flagged almost immediately after that announcement, too. I know this because I found those flagged posts, even though they said the changes wouldn’t be happening until 12/17, as did most people who went digging. I spent several days crawling manually through my dash--because the archive is worthless and didn’t show the flags easily anyway--to check for flags and submit appeals as appropriate.

I’ve got literal porn on this blog, gifs and images of people screwing. Some of it was flagged, a lot of it wasn’t while a whole bunch of completely random stuff like my cat in somebody’s lap was. We all know the algorithm is bare-bones and doesn’t know what the hell it’s doing. After a while, I stopped digging, because I was informed they’d stopped flagging things for a little while, and frankly at that point I was just exhausted of crawling through my own data, of which I’d already done several hundred pages. They also now have multiple versions of flag and it’s impossible to easily locate them or respond to them. The “we’re hiding the post from everyone including you and not even giving you a link to it” ones are my personal favorite.

Cut to this morning, three weeks later, when I open my email before work.

I have content that was flagged for being adult? Gosh, you don’t say? I’ve known about that for weeks. I fully expected to come back after the log-out protest to find my account locked down or even deleted, because yes, blogs were outright deleted after that even though Tumblr pinky-swore they wouldn’t delete anything.

Now see, what tells me in clear black-and-white (as opposed to just connecting dots) that this whole thing is in bad faith and they never actually wanted to fix anything? 

They make no attempt to tell you what content was flagged, or how to find it. This one everybody already knew, but I’m laying it out. They don’t even give me a vague idea of what they flagged, no dates or quantities. They don’t even tell me what type of post I made that violated the content. For all I know, from this email alone, I have one post amid thirty-something-thousand that is flagged as adult. Maybe I have half of my posts flagged! I don’t know, because this email doesn’t so much as give me a hint.

They give you no immediate way to respond. The email itself comes from their basic no-reply email address, not even a dedicated one for sending out these specific messages. They at least have the decency to tell you not to reply directly to that email, despite that being the most efficient way to respond. They give you embedded links to the TOS several times, but the support link only once. All of these links are inline in paragraphs, not set apart from the text for emphasis.

There is no step-by-step whatsoever. A basic logical format for addressing this would be “Here’s a link to the post in question. Check that post, and then check out community guidelines. If after rereading those guidelines you feel the post was flagged incorrectly, you can appeal it by clicking HERE [stonking great noticeable link specifically for this purpose].” Tumblr doesn’t even bother with step one, and kind of meanders around telling you the rest. ”Asking us to review the decision” is completely separated from the “Support Center” link by multiple paragraphs, and it’s written in such a way that it’s not clear that the Support Center is where you should be going in the first place.

They include a completely unnecessary sentence to chide you and excuse themselves. "While we do not judge anyone for their desire to post, engage with, or view this kind of material on other platforms, it simply no longer belongs on this platform" is not important or meaningful to the email in any way. It serves one purpose: to shake a finger in your face, and to say “not that there’s anything wrong with that, just not in my backyard.”

As of 12/23/2018 there is still no way to efficiently view which of your posts were flagged. The way to see your flagged posts is still so convoluted, unintuitive, time-consuming, and not explained anywhere that it can only suggest they didn’t ever actually expect anyone to do it, possibly that they didn’t want anyone to do it.

I personally write clearer and more concise guides on how to do any number of things at work every day. I write these for our business partners, our customers, and my coworkers. It is not hard to do better than this.

This shit is exactly why I’m not bothering to report pornbots for Tumblr anymore, I just block them from bothering me.  This is why I’m only giving new content to Pillowfort. Tumblr doesn’t care, has not cared, and will continue not to care about correctly policing itself or protecting its users.

Fuck Tumblr.

Hey. I'm Alex. I'm not super social on Tumblr, because I'm just like you. I come here to reblog memes, get the latest fandom salt, bemoan the lack of porn, and then just turn around and block pornbots.

Lately I've been kinda going through it. My sister and I are both in college, my immigrant ma works at a redhead's burger chain, we have a new cat, and I have no job. See, I have this crazy depression that sometimes just makes it hard as fuck to even go to school. I used to work at a restaurant, then a grocery store, then a short time gig at my community college's bookstore. But now I'm back in unemployment and a steadily gripping depression that makes it hard to even search for jobs. Besides, with no laptop and a seven year old virused up PC, it's not a cakewalk using my phone's light browser for literally everything, including accessing my math textbook.

Phone will usually turn off after I try that. Hmph :T

Anyways. Living in relative poverty is. Kinda shit. Rent gets paid, we won't get our phones cut off, but that's pretty much it. It's hard finding money for household necessities. Making sure my Romeo has the kitten food he needs for his first year of life isn't easy. And getting to school is expensive since I just haven't had the spoons to deal with the bureaucracy of seeking federal assistance.

So if y'all are willing and able to slip me a fiver for a day's bus pass or canned kitten food, my Venmo is the same as my url, skiddly-bop.

Tumblr Safe Mode: How Do?

so what’s up with tumblr safe mode, anyway? 

Inspired by @the-son-of-dathomir who posed the very valid question “so just how bad is the new update anyway -- can anyone provide actual sources instead of the same screenshot over and over?” Given our (tumblr users’) known tendency to reblog first and fact check never, I decided to find out for myself!

I created a brand new account where I listed my age as 16, which I’ll call BB for Baby Blog, and a sideblog from my main that I flagged as explicit. I turned on safe mode for my main to see what sorts of things got flagged and then set off to explore. 

Note: there were some things (posts, blogs) that were NOT flagged on BB that other users have been saying got flagged for them (for example, both @sapphic-sex-ed and @positive-lesbian-vibes have had users saying the blogs were flagged for them, but neither of them were on BB), so it’s possible that we each get our own, individualized, terrible safe mode algorithm. If someone else wants to test stuff too, please link me! The more info about this SNAFU the better. 

Second note: safe search CAN be turned off in mobile for adult users, they just did it oddly. On iOS you need to go to the general phone settings, not the tumblr app -- you scroll down in settings to tumblr settings and you can toggle safe mode on/off from there.

BLOGS

Of blogs I follow, @swpromptsandasks was flagged, so I used them (SWPrompts Moddy, hope you don’t mind!). The icon is pixelated out, like this:

If you click their blog to view in dashboard, you get this page:

However, if you go to their actual url, you can view it just fine. I was able to follow from BB and can see what looks like pretty much all their posts, including a drawing of Jabba the Hutt in tighty-whiteys which I WISH had been flagged. [gagging noises]

I also tried to follow Explicit Blog from BB and was able to do so using tumblr.com/follow/[explicitblogurl]. Explicit Blog’s icon (one of the default tumblr ones) is also blurred out, which is kind of funny looking since it’s one of those generic shapes with eyes.

POSTS

I actually had a hard time finding flagged posts in my dash. This might be because I don’t follow blogs that post a lot of nsfw content, but I don’t actually know. The first one I found was a post reblogged by @demonicvulcan, a short kirk/spock comic where kirk is shirtless (as usual). So, not exactly ~sensitive content~ but whatever, other users have already established that their algorithm sucks.

This is what it looked like in my dashboard on my main:

So if you’re an adult account that has safe mode on, you can click the button to see it anyway, kind of like a normal, functioning blacklist. If you’re a minor it taunts you with the knowledge that there IS content there somewhere, but you’re a tiny baby so you don’t get to see it. Ha ha.

So that’s an example of a wrongly-flagged sfw post. Next I made two posts on Explicit Blog, one that sounded like a badly malfunctioning sex robot trying to dirty talk (“PENIS! SEX BOOBS! HOT!” and so on) and one explicit image that was reblogged from one of the pornbots following my main (I guess they’re good for something once in a while?). BOTH THE TEXT AND THE IMAGE SHOWED UP IN BB’S DASHBOARD.  So, shirtless Kirk is Too Far but a girl in the nude photographed immediately after performing oral is a-okay, apparently (??????)

TAGS AND SEARCH

I tried terms ranging from totally innocuous to nsfw, and looked at each both as a tag and a search result. For the normal searches I mostly focused on things that could, reasonably, be a non-sexual thing a minor would want to look at that I’ve heard tumblr has been flagging (think lgbt stuff, sex education). 

#lesbian: completely different results on main vs BB because all the results on main were porn. 😑

“lesbian” search: completely different posts, same blogs at the top for both main and BB. Had different results for “most popular” even with “hiding sensitive content” picked on my main, which was weird. 

#lesbiansafe: mostly the same posts. A poem by starlightglimmer and a post about being a popular lesbian blog by tenderqueerbutch that showed on main didn’t show on BB.

“lesbiansafe” search: the same when sorted by most popular; a post by terfs-are-evil about corrective rape and a post by ribbontxt about being drunk and wanting to hug a girl didn’t show on BB.

#trans woman: mostly the same results for main and BB. the one post that didn’t show up on BB was explicit porn.

“trans woman” search: mostly the same results for main and BB. ditto on the one porn post in the tag not showing up on BB.

#sex ed: no posts found on BB, lots of posts on main (about half were actually education and the other half were just porn). If you misspell it as #sexed, all one word, you get about half the results on BB that you get on main, mostly with porn as the half that doesn’t show.

“sex ed” search: no results for BB, loads of results for main. Erika M0en was the first blog suggested under the search on my main, which, okay then. :/

#girl on girl: no posts found for BB. On main, it was about a 1:2 ratio of selfies/sfw images to porn.

“girl on girl” search: totally different posts from main and BB. when searching on main with safe search, there was one trans girl positivity post from dateagirlwhosweird that did NOT show up in BB’s search results but did for my main.

#nsfw: no posts found on BB, lots of porn on main.

“nsfw” search: no results found for BB, lots of porn on main.

TL;DR: tumblr’s safe mode algorithm is completely fucking useless and may also be different from user to user. Things were and were not flagged/blocked at complete random and, while not blocking ALL sfw LGBT content, the algorithm definitely did block some of it.
