Okay so 1 I went on about the free Smart Books app on my studyblr @rigelmejo which is what app I'm reading on. (And if you're a learner I recommend it because it's target language/English optional parallel translation, click translation, TTS, and also has word statistics on book length and unique word count and how many words I'm reading per minute and how frequently I'm looking up words... which for Guardian is about 150 wpm read and unknown words about every 112 words).
Anyway I love Guo Changcheng SO MUCH. I love his description as this lanky anxious emo college graduate who scraped by (who's going to become such a sweet heroic guy ;-; ) who reminds Zhao yunlan of a maiden sold into slavery or imprisoned by a general lmao
#guardian#lb#rant#also? it says a lot lmao how much my chinese vocabulary is specifically tailored to priests writing word choice#with guardjan i genuinely do have 98% reading comprehension or better.#and liu yao and other priest novels are easier to read#but im also reading 坏小孩 which has way LESS unique words but im looking up a word every 40 words because i do NOT know the authors vocabulary

Hey, I'm sorry. I know you're not part of the miraculous fandom anymore, but I've wanted to ask this question for a really long time. Were there ever moments when designing your own miracle box, kwamis, or powers did you ever feel the urge to just throw out the idea of the miraculous being tied to a specific culture and just having them be generic fantasy? Or just throw out the idea of the guardians and miracle boxes in general and just have the kwamis be free roamers that pick their own holders based on their personalities? (There is also the idea of just throwing out the idea of the kwamis embodying concept and just being beings of magic)
Oh plenty of times.
In hindsight, and in the grand scheme of things, that's honestly how they should've handled the Miraculous, not tie them to any one specific culture or region. Just let them be open to the world. Let them be magical.
It would've opened them up to work with a variety of myths and cultures or pick what they want to work with power wise instead of just tying it to one specific region. It would've allowed them to be flexible with what animals could appear and they didn't have to limit themselves to iconic groups of animals of that region or bring in a huge number like the freak Chinese Zodiac that they clearly couldn't handle or scale evenly.
I can't say for others cause it just may be me, but I definitely wouldn't be raising a brow or be put off at some of the choices made with powers and some of the clear inspirations for the Miraculous and kwamis. Like, Rabbit I would've only be bothered by the time traveling power and not just it also being tied to a European novel when it's supposed to be tied to China (and the Moon Rabbit IS RIGHT THERE but I guess we can't have a 2nd healing Miraculous to help shoulder the burden for LB but we can have multiple that generate items).
I also wouldn't be so bothered about how Tikki and Plagg are portrayed and their very European/Christian inspirations (especially them becoming those over designed biblical angels, if anyone knows for sure please do correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think those have a place in Taoism and to me just screams they should've been Europe based, especially as Thomas still works off the European good and bad luck themes more than creation and destruction (like there was a whole series of tweets from Thomas insisting that Cataclysm doesn't DESTROY but causes bad things to happen), even though this is a power from what should be Destruction... and they're the most iconic animal symbols for good and bad luck in Europe specifically).
Honestly, the only issue that could've arose if they let them loose in origins is the two that's very European/Christian based being established as "most powerful", and you don't really want that, but if you just remove the idea of tiers and just roll with that some have an edge over others (like Ladybug always has an edge over Butterfly), then that fixes that.
But, in doing so, that does lead down a path of changes and questions to consider: Miraculous wise what should exist, what should be cut, how do Miraculous work off each other, what's the system of control in the face of misuse, should Ladybug and Cat be the ONLY wish granting duo, should there be others, if so how is Ladybug and Cat more desirable than any other wish granting duo, could it be that every pair can grant a unique sort of wish, or could it be that by a specific year a specific duo grants the wish and it's the year of LB and Cat, ect..
I admit that it's all probably over complicating things, but it's questions like those that come to mind when I think of tossing away Miraculous tied to a specific region and culture, and it's just apart of the ongoing issue of trying to think of how to fix the show cause it's just endless possibilities and potential to pick from and consider. Like, take Adrien as an example, his character could have roughly 10 possible paths to take as a character. If they wanted to do something with him, the options are there. Could done him as a starting hero who starts it for freedom and fun and then becomes serious later. Could do him learning friendship lessons. Could do him learning that he can find happiness outside the need for romantic love. If not as a starting hero, could've given the Ladyblog to him to run and he wants to expose his crush and just not consider what that could mean for her and not everyone likes that public attention that he's used to (and for angst, Gabriel is supportive of Adrien doing this), heck, if you wanted sentiAdrien, could do him growing into his own, becoming his own person and breaking free of Gabriel's control.
Another big factor is that you change so much of ML's set up and the little lore that's given, well, it becomes less ML and more your take on the concept, and at that point, maybe it's best just to do your own thing cause it's not ML anymore.
Either way, for Guardians, the Order, and the Miracle Box, I honestly don't mind them existing, but they were mishandled. If Miraculous popped up enough, then there will be a good number of people who will know about them, and there will be people who will think it's a good idea to make an organization designed to work with them, secure they don't fall into wrong hands, and handle any big crisis that arises. And I like the idea that the Miracle Box was designed to house the jewelry, but also offered kwamis their own safe pocket dimension, which could open up to more so they can have their own rooms but also a core space for all to hang out in. The big issue of the Order is that what we get is just incredibly incompetent that they shouldn't have bothered. And the big shame is that they could've been an antagonistic force or the next villains to face post HM, cause hey, it is human nature to be controlling and have a say in how things should be and it could it started with good intentions and turned south, could've done humans could look down on kwamis and their views and think they know better, or it could be that kwamis can't be fully trusted in their views. It just could've been complex and interesting.
And lastly concepts, I go back and forth on that, cause on one hand, that can be limiting in terms of powers, cause animals can be so much more than one theme. Like, time does work well for snakes, but they're also tied to dragons, water, healing, death, duality, cunning/intelligence, ect.. But if you're doing a single power or a few, that can give you some idea on what to work with, especially if you can have a single power that is just right. If Dog was the Miraculous of Recollection, and you expanded upon what Fetch could Fetch, it's a perfect match, you could recollect a lost object or person (can work off search and rescue dogs), you could recollect a recently passed soul and revive someone who recently passed (works off hellhounds and guarding the underworld), it could even be done to bring forth a memory or be used as a means to bring forth the truth when it's denied (which is another term of recollection).
Gosh this became such a long rant, but yeah, I have thought of those things when I was trying to figure out how to rework stuff. I do think in the grand scheme of it all, it'd be better if Miraculous weren't tied to China and just allowed to dabble in a variety of cultures and be very traveled, especially as they clearly didn't want to really represent that culture and just used it because foreign = exotic and magical. Not to say there wouldn't be any issues but there'd be less to raise a brow at, and it would've given them more flexibility in powers and what Miraculous could appear. Now the Order and concepts, that's a give or take depending on how they're handled and what's done, but I'd say with the current show they're not worth the inclusion.

January Goals Update and Notes
Chapters I studied with Listening-Reading Method: Notes lol:
i do not control wtf motivates me. perhaps it literally just is i have to get really attached to a book.
anyway, february is here. i am thinking i may just start listen-reading to Guardian this month. I know I’ve been debating whether to finish Tian Ya Ke first before I started guardian, or do both at the same time. I am leaning toward starting Guardian, sooner rather than later. Even though it’s still me ‘not finishing one thing before starting the next.’
In the end, any studying is better than no studying. And I haven’t been motivated to read chinese lately. However, I have been motivated to read english - and listening-reading will be 1/3 english reading which may help push me to keep progressing. And the 1/3 chinese reading portion is more passive, since I follow along with the audio, so I can have a break from the dictionary for a while. Also... why did I initially start learning Chinese? To read Guardian. To read it in chinese, and english translation. If I’m thinking about my most prioritized goals, this task is more directly in line with what I want to accomplish than finishing reading Tian Ya Ke. Although, both ARE related.
Also, I think anything I learn from listening-reading to Guardian, will improve my reading/listening skills when moving onto any other priest novel. So it won’t be a detriment, it will only make going back to Tian Ya Ke easier afterward - since I will know more words, and recognize them in listening better (and ideally, pick up some words visually in reading better). So I think... if I do get motivated to start listening-reading to Guardian this month, then I’m just going to start doing it.
A note about Tian Ya Ke and difficulty: I am still noticing improvement. I am getting to the point where 1 page has a handful of unknown words at most, usually only 1-3 getting in the way of me easily following the plot. I am noticing I’m getting better at guessing what an unknown word is supposed to mean, guessing what the idioms that seem vaguely familiar mean (and remembering at least some of the words in them). Reading Tian Ya Ke has gotten much closer to reading Han She in terms of ease. I think I’m running into a similar number of unknown words now. I haven’t measured yet if the chapters are taking me under 30 minutes to read yet. Mainly because lately I can’t get myself to read more than 5-10 pages in short bursts at a time. So I’m not sure if reading speed has improved. But I can say that my reading recognition for Tian Ya Ke is currently better than my listening comprehension. I’ve been scanning the pages I read lately pretty fast as I read, guessing most words fine, and then just double checking their pronunciation/definition by clicking them for audio afterwards. Its currently the checking for precise sound/meaning that’s slowing down my reading of Tian Ya Ke. If I were reading it extensively, only looking up words for crucial meaning clarification, I would probably be reading it decently faster.
On a general goals note: I am still for some reason managing to focus easily on reading english books, which is not that usual for me (usually I can read 20-40 pages in a book, then can’t read more than 10 pages an hour or slower and eventually drop the book). So I’m going to keep taking advantage of this ability to focus while I’ve got the chance. It’s been really nice to finally start getting through more of my books. Right now about half are mental health related books (which I’ve been meaning to read for ages), and fiction (mostly historical romances as I’m trying to find an author that Clicks well with me lol). I’ve read 5 so far, with 2 non-fiction books in progress and 1 fiction in progress. That is a LOT in one month for me, each book being 200-500 pages. Lets say 350 pages average, I’ve read over 1750 pages so far this year in January. Yes, that might only be the same as 2 ‘big’ books... but in my defense, non-fiction is soooo much harder to focus on (like i said, i get about 10-20 pages read in an hour of non-fiction even now that i’m focusing -o- ), and I just have not managed to read anything considerable in a while. So... while I still have long term language goals, I’m not going to be upset if they end up getting sidelined again this month. Reading more is something I’m enjoying getting back into, and I truly have so many books to finally read... so I’m glad I’m doing it now.
Things accomplished in January:
Chinese novel chapters read in January: 8 (I’m on Tian Ya Ke chapter 27, page 10. I’m around 33% through the novel. I read around half as many chapters this past month compared to December... and honestly like 4 of these chapters I remember reading one Saturday that I managed to focus. I just wasn’t in the mood to intensively read very much in December).
Chapters I studied with Listening-Reading Method: 2 (Wow that’s not much... both were Tian Ya Ke chapters. Doing both intensive reading AND listening-reading to a single chapter really burns me out. Again, I just wasn’t in a reading mood, so I mostly skipped l-r to speed up how long chapters took to read).
Japanese Audio listened to: 14 (I was listening through Quicksleur - which is pimsleur but with the silences cut out, there are 3 sections, 30 audio files in each section. I completed 14 audio files in section 1. I’ve been listening to Quicksleur to try and refresh the japanese I used to know. Is it working? Yeah, I’m remembering a fair bit of what I used to know. I definitely think re-reading Tae Kim’s Grammar Guide or Japanese in 30 Hours would help reaffirm the grammar I used to know - but I haven’t been motivated to read grammar books. I was listening to quicksleur while playing video games, and that worked well as a low effort way to include listening. I will probably just keep listening to quicksleur, then change my audio to japanese and see what vocab I can refresh. Then maybe in a few months, once quicksleur is completed, I may move into using Japanese Audio Lessons and my actual grammar books. At the moment, realistically, I have 0 time for my grammar books. And I want to focus on audio primarily anyway for now - I do NOT want my kanji/spelling knowledge of japanese to affect my chinese reading skills right now. And I know, having tried, that for me they definitely do affect each other - I’ll see kanji and the pinyin pronunciation will jump in my head, or I’ll know a word in japanese and see it in a chinese novel and have to remind myself its a new word there. This mix up happened a lot when I first started studying Chinese - as I’d just come off of studying Japanese for 2.5 years. Which was very weird, it made learning chinese words harder, but the more chinese i learned the easier manga got to Read for a while. Anyway now that I’m refreshing my japanese, even Without seeing kanji on purpose - when I see them in my chinese reading i’m re-remembering the japanese pronunciation and word that hanzi also goes to. Which is already a bit awkward. So I don’t really want to add kanji included study on purpose for a while. I’ll just keep trying this audio focus for now... with the added benefit its easy to include, and doesn’t have to compete for my energy level I have to make myself read. I am well aware I’ll need to go to my long term, more well rounded, japanese study plan later on. But for now this is fine).
Chinese Spoonfed Audio: 0
Manhua chapters read: 0
Chinese shows watched: 1 (Watched anti fraud league ep 1 in chinese, and again I think some small videos and partial eps of other shows. I haven’t watched many shows period this past month though, so I’m not surprised this is low.
Personal goals met:
Personal books read: 5 (3 non-fiction , 2 fiction novels, 2 non-fiction in progress, 1 fiction in progress. This is really where my energy has been happy to focus on this past January. The non-fiction I’m particularly happy with as its a lot of mental health books I’ve been meaning to read for ages, and some of them I really think have helped me to cope with my panic attacks better. Lately my panic attacks have been less overwhelming, to a degree I think because my inner thoughts during them are having an easier time getting back to self-soothing patterns so I can calm down, and I’m more willing to openly express I’m feeling so bad which I think is helping me process the emotions faster, which helps them end sooner. I read a few as mentioned, although I literally cannot recommend complex ptsd by pete walker if the subject material is relevant to you. That book definitely helped the most, and the books he recommended within it are what I’m reading through now. The book was compassionate, informative, very supportive and encouraging of the recovery journey and its steps, and had a ton of very helpful exercises that can be put to practical use).
Continued to get my stomach to not hurt, also got it to work better without medicine. Avoiding very processed carbs - mainly white breads like biscuits, pizza, pie crust, cinamon rolls that come in those cans - has kept my bloating down and the pain down. Eating apples again every day with coffee/tea is helping, both with not needing my medicine, and with foods not hurting me/not bloating me so much. So I guess I have to keep eating apples every single day -o-. I ate pizza several times this past month (with my lactose medicine) and I only bloated a little, it did not hurt, which was GREAT. Eating biscuits from a can still hurt though - happily the bloating only happened a little, but the pain sucks, and definitely is caused by those kinds of carbs specifically. Other then minimizing dairy and that specific carb type, my stomach’s been tolerating other carbs pretty well. I’ve kept my daily bloating low even with some foods that ‘could hurt’ per day, to 1-2 lbs. Which is great. The worst I’ve bloated this month was by 4 lbs (biscuits), which hurt a bit but thankfully subsided after a day, and that is a big improvement over the 7-10 lb bloating I’d get in a single day from one ‘less tolerated’ food choice. I’m very happy I haven’t had to take my medicine daily, hopefully I’m on the way to getting my stomach as happy as it was this summer.
Goals for February:
Listen-Read Method Guardian, until I’ve gotten through the entire novel. I will probably start this in February, not sure yet if it will be postponed. This, and goal 2, are the main priorities for chinese and I don’t mind which one happens as long as I do some of either of these goals.
Continue reading Tian Ya Ke. Work on reading through my first complete novel in chinese. This goal has not changed, though I predict it may be postponed as I’m not sure how much time I will dedicate to it in February.
Optional. Audios. Keep listening to Japanese Quicksleur when there’s down time (like playing games), and Chinese Spoonfed audio if I feel like it.
Personal. Keep reading while I’ve got the motivation to. I am really enjoying getting through all these books I’ve wanted to read for so long.
So same chinese goals as last month - and I imagine these goals will remain the same into the spring and possibly as summer starts. For japanese, just continuing to progress to refresh my memory is all I am planning at the moment.
And a note to myself: it is shocking how motivating making a little line item in my notes saying “Personal books read:” managed to be. I added that to my to-do list in the middle of January, and since then have read a TON. So just as it motivates me to read chinese chapters, it looks like that particular motivator can work for more things.

About Asugi
Full Name: Saizo VI Nickname: Asugi Height: 5′10″ (177.8 cm) Weight: 170 lbs (77.11 kg) Sexuality and Gender: Closeted Bisexual Cisgender Male Age and Birthday: 22; January 1st Hair Color: "Ginger” red Eye Color: Hazel Green Personality: Wise-cracking, friendly, flirty, occasionally intense Hobbies: Making his own sweets, reading romance novels / manga, art, break-dancing.
Bio: Despite his somewhat carefree attitude, Asugi had a pretty tough life. Along with other kids born during the war, he was kept in a deeprealm and grew up there for his own safety. His father had left him in the care of an old friend -- a master ninja that was a retired general and that had trained him and his brother after their dad died due to an assassination by Kotaro. He grew up highly isolated, far in the mountains away from the nearest city, as it might serve to be a “distraction”.
While the unnamed guardian was an exceptional trainer, he was HARDLY adept at raising children, especially one that was pretty much a baby at the start. He pushed Asugi way too hard and ended up basically physically abusing the poor kid. He just had no idea where his limits were. He was used to training young men and teens, not toddlers. Whenever Asugi got exhausted from carrying 20 pound boulders around from point to point and threw a tantrum because he was tired and needed a nap, he was swiftly punished by even more grueling labor. Eventually he began to see the training itself as a type of punishment.
Whether or not Saizo knew about this ongoing abuse is honestly up to the mun I RP with, but for some reason, be it not knowing or simple disregarding what Asugi was trying to tell him, Asugi was left with him for a long time. It didn’t help that any time his father came (infrequently) to visit him, he’d only ask about how he was progressing. He literally can’t recall a single time he heard his father said he loves him. So after a while, he just kind of assumed that he didn’t.
Unlike a lot of unfortunate abuse survivors, Asugi somehow knew that what was happening to him wasn’t right and his guardian’s grip on the newly rebellious child began to slip. As soon as he learned how, Asugi began using all his guardian’s techniques against him to explore the outside world, and began getting enraptured in how much he loved people, how much he loved sweets, and how much he loved living. Life was new and exciting for him suddenly instead of an absolute chore. He relished that!
It was really an eye-opening experience for him, and before long, he gave the old-timer the slip for good, running in with no good gangs of thieves in order to satisfy his new cravings for freedom. He cast away his old namesake as something he never wanted and didn’t feel worthy of in the first place. If he was going to be known as Saizo, it would be on his own terms.
The rest, as they say, is history.
#headcanons#SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG TO MAKE#i kept getting distracted by shit#it'll be officially added to his page tomorrow after work#things might change a little

It just hit me how steamy Silent Reading I'd again. I gotta finish the novel
#silent reading#lb#i have like 50 pages left maybe 100. im functionallg right before the finale#it truly HIT me the other day how much the luofei dynamic changes through the novel. part 1 is basically guardian/child#just after a fallout with hostility but a power imbalance still#and fei du realizing hes going to destroy the relationship by doing his plan (which you rhe reader dont know)#part 2 they become closer to equals. work partners. and fei du is actively trying to savor the relationship#by flirting whilr also actively doing shit that WILL destroy it (he thinks it will). luo wenzhou is responding#by trying to CONTROL the flirting and halt it in the holding pre relationship phase#cause he knows fei du is lashing out and insecure and just wants the SECURITY of their relationship#but also luo wenzhou jas no idea why if fei du wants security fei du is rocking the relationship with flirting#and lies.#then part 3 is fei du saves luo wenzhous life. and progressively they become Truly Equal partners because fei du#HAS to be honest. and luo wenzhou tries to Controlingly carefully walk them through steps of#being honest and healthy compared to the imbalamced guardian/kid and supervisor/manipulator dynamics#and theyre like 90% of the way there. by the time i stopped reading#and i suspect there will be a part 4 to the dynamic shift maybe?#its just. its WILD how severely things shift. and in part 1? fei du uses Tao Ran as a 3rd party#same plan as in part 2: preserve relationsgip with luo wrnzhou as long as possible#but in part 1 fei du just had the fallout with lwz. and thinks Tao Ran is the way to keep lwz in his life close but able to be#pushed away. in part 2 fei du goes for high risk high reward with more direct contact to lwz instead. and tao ran getting a gf and putting#up more boundaries also pushes that direction. tao ran stops being an IN to lwz for fei du. so fei du goes direct but ultimately wants#the same childhood relation with lwz but as#equals. still safe and secure and permanent though. lwz is still the ONE person whod take him in if he did what that girl who tried to kill#a girl did. lwz is the only one who'll unconditionally love him rhe way his own parents didnt. the way tao ran cant cause tao ran#cant love a suspect a criminal unconditionally. but lwz will do tje discipline himself if he has to and Still love unconditonal#and fei du wants that as long as possible. (and even a transition to part 3 he loses that a bit#because honesty with lwz means more reasons for lwz to eventually draw a line)

Being Alone, Anaconda, and Cats: at Brooklyw ACC waitiny bou love 25211-10 62 06 TO BE KILLED - 4/23/2018 OLDER CHICKS NEED LOVE TOO <3 And lots of it!! And a soft doggy bed, soft & tasty treats, good massages and a nice mani-pedi so she can always look and feel her best. Hell, while we're at it we might as well just ask for the whole sha-bang for Diva!! She should be treated like a little queen in her golden years. Diva is an adorable girl who joined her former family in her old home as a little pup and now at ten years of age she's been surrendered to a strange and scary place as her family is now homeless. It would be awesome if we could help them get back on their feet so they could all return home but thats not likely so we have to do everything in our power to make sure this scary kill shelter isn't the last stop for Diva. Please read up on Diva. All of her shelter and surrender notes are below. She's out of time at the Brooklyn shelter and sometimes they think nothing of snuffing the life out of a sweet senior girl whose there through no fault of her own. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Behavior Asilomar: TM - Treatable-Manageable Recommendations:: No young children (under 5) Recommendations comments:: No young children: Due to potential food (rawhide) guarding behavior in the home, Diva gave an appropriate warning of her discomfort (growl) but we feel that young children may not know to respect this warning. Older, dog savvy children can be considered as long as the adults feel confident that Diva can be left alone while eating so she does not need to escalate from a growl. Behavior modification for food guarding behavior can be found at aspcapro.org. Potential challenges: : Resource guarding Potential challenges comments:: Resource Guarding: Diva's previous owner notes that she may growl when her food (rawhide) bowl is approached. We recommend that Diva be left along while eating, and that food guarding behavior modification steps (available at ASPCApro.org) be utilized if this behavior is problematic in his future home. Nothing should ever be taken directly out of Diva's mouth, and any time something is removed she should be rewarded with a high value treat or toy. He should be taught the "drop" cue and trade-up games. * TO FOSTER OR ADOPT * If you would like to adopt a dog on our “To Be Killed” list, and you CAN get to the shelter in person to complete the adoption process *within 48 hours of reserve*, you can reserve the dog online until noon on the day they are scheduled to die. Romance
DEGRASSI
First Love: She’ll tell someone it was Eli Goldsworthy, but that was an intense and obsessive crush. The first person she ever truly loved, whether she realizes it or not, was Cam Saunders.
Love Interests: Eli Goldsworthy, Cam Saunders, Miles Hollingsworth III, KC Guthrie, Zig Novak, Bryce Mathews
Marital Status: In a relationship
Orientation: Bisexual
Significant Other: Bryce Mathews, in most universes.
Love Style: Brie falls hard, fast, and often. She is reckless in her love interests, and prior to meeting Bryce, only sought after boys in order to feel beautiful and loved due to severe immaturity that never went away until after Adam passed away and she lost her baby (in most universes). She then grew up almost instantaneously and became truly committed to her relationship with Bryce, despite his non-committal tendencies. Brie’s love is intense and passionate, but can be manipulative when she feels threatened. She is very sexual and will use that to add even more intensity to her romantic relationships. Things move hard and fast for her, which can often be self-destructive. She is, as she was written after, a young-adult version of Dolores Haze from the novel Lolita.
Flirtiness: Brie is extremely forward in flirting. She will do things such as blatantly hit on someone, use her body against them, and even go so far as to send nudes and other suggestive pictures to her love interests.
Turnons: Confidence, Attitude, Style, Athleticism, Good Music Taste, Pretty Eyes, Nice Hair
Turnoffs: Disrespect, Unfaithfulness, Slut Shaming
Virginity: Brie lost her virginity to Eli Goldsworthy at 15 at a cabin party she wasn’t even supposed to be at (go figure).
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE
First Love: Peter Parker
Love Interests: Flash Thompson (Unrequited on her end), Peter Parker
Marital Status: In a relationship
Orientation: Bisexual
Significant Other: Peter Parker
Love Style: In the MCU, Brie is slightly more reserved due to her family situation. She really doesn’t want to let anyone in on what’s going on at home. She fears that if she lets someone know that she’s left alone for long periods of times while her mom is on a bender, and she doesn’t want sympathy. Brie’s relationships in the MCU move much slower, because she has trust issues. It requires a lot of trust to get in with her, so romantic relationships must start out as friendships first and then progress forward so that she can really get a feel for someone. Once she is in a relationship, though, she is very loving, passionate, and devoted to that person...and her true character origin seeps in a little, as she often fears that a significant other (not Peter specifically) will leave her and she’ll be left alone again.
Flirtiness: Brie is a more subtle and sometimes unintentional flirt here. Her style of dress is very girly and flirty, and often that does the work for her. Elsewhere, she plays the sweet girl card and is just super nice and sweet, playing into her “babydoll” title. She’s fifteen, almost sixteen, here...so she is quite frequently giggly and awkward while being intentionally flirty. Now that she’s actively in a relationship with Peter, she’s more at ease and will just flirt with him however she sees fit...whether that be through ridiculous spider puns, smacking his ass as she walks by, or just random compliments (mostly either pertaining to his overall attractiveness, smile, eyes, or how he is in bed).
Turnons: Kindness, Devotion, Intelligence, If they’re good at anything pertaining to computers (since she’s really into tech/social media/strategic kind of stuff), Varied interests
Turnoffs: She’s fifteen, so really, I mean...as long as they’re a breathing male, she’s okay...but she really hates rudeness, hence her disgust towards Flash...and she doesn’t like anyone who is going to be distant with her at any point.
Virginity: Brie lost her virginity to Peter Parker a few months after dating him.

i get more and more obsessed with the adaptational changes made to guardian every day today im thinking about lin jing going from “monk” to “IT guy”
#the lore and everything is definitely better laid out in the novel but i still love the somewhat baffling sci-fi aspects of the show#it would have definitely taken more work to make that genre shift really work they would have had to change even more things#grrrrrr bite bite chomp chomp if only eps 33/34 could have been like 3 or 4 episodes instead#guardian lb#textp

RULES. repost; do not reblog! tag 10! good luck! TAGGED BY: @yunafied + @spiras-sunshine TAGGING: I think most people have done it by now, but if someone hasn’t, consider this your tag.
BASICS.
FULL NAME: As her full name was never specified, Anima NICKNAME/S: Ani AGE: Late 40′s/early 50′s BIRTHDAY: [REDACTED] ETHNIC GROUP: Spiran/Human NATIONALITY: Spiran LANGUAGE/S: Spiran SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual ROMANTIC ORIENTATION: Heteroromantic RELATIONSHIP STATUS: Widowed. CLASS: White Mage | Guardian | Fayth | Final Aeon HOMETOWN / AREA: Bevelle (Born) | Macalania (Lived) | Guadosalam (Lived) | Baaj (Banished to and Fayth Statue located at). CURRENT HOME: No Current Location. Most likely Bevelle. PROFESSION: N/A
PHYSICAL.
HAIR: Shoulder length, straight and black. EYES: Bright blue. NOSE: Long, straight. FACE: Heart Shaped. LIPS: Bottom is thicker than her top, pink. COMPLEXION: Pale or lightly toned. BLEMISHES: A few small scars from her pilgrimage with Seymour. The symbol of her fayth is burnt into the center of her back. TATTOOS: N/A HEIGHT: 5′7″ WEIGHT: 136 lbs BUILD: Slim/slender build, with a little muscle on her arms. ALLERGIES: None. USUAL HAIRSTYLE: Unbound, reaching to her shoulders and brushed out of her face. USUAL EXPRESSION: Serene, though oddly intimidating. USUAL CLOTHING: A dark blue top covers her torso, with a pale blue skirt extending from a little under her breasts to just above her ankles. Dark, somewhat translucent sleeves cover her forearms, donned with gold ribbons adorning the edges and around the ends of the sleeves. Around the ribbon at the top of the sleeves, chains are embroidered in silver/grey. A gold belt with gold drops hangs around her waist. Pale blue heels are on her feet.
PSYCHOLOGY.
FEAR/S: Dying before she could’ve seen her son grow up properly, her son dying alone in Baaj. ASPIRATION/S: It was to see the union of the Guado and Humans but that’s kinda gone out the window. Live a simple life until the Farplane decides to take her back. POSITIVE TRAITS: Confident, loyal, strong-willed, calm, assertive, loving, sincere. NEGATIVE TRAITS: Trusting herself as a mother, trusting herself, stubborn, cold, scared, abrupt. MBTI: ENFJ ZODIAC: Taurus TEMPERAMENT: Melonchloic SOUL TYPE/S: Caregiver ANIMAL: Penguin. VICE/S: Has a tendency to push or manipulate others into doing things that they otherwise would not do. FAITH: Used to be Yevon but now she’s not so sure. GHOSTS? Yes. AFTERLIFE? Considering she’s come back from it, yes. REINCARNATION? Her situation could be considered reincarnation, so yes. ALIENS? No. POLITICAL ALIGNMENT: Neutral. ECONOMIC PREFERENCE: When she was living in Bevelle and Guadosalam, she was living with more money than most would. Being married to a Guado in a particularly high position of power meant she had a lot of gil. In Bevelle, her parents were well off enough so that she could live comfortable. When she was a priestess in Macalania’s temple, she was living off what she could earn at the temple and occasionally what her parents sent her. Obviously, after she got sent to Baaj, she had to make do with what she and the woman that was sent with her, could get their hands on. She wanted to make sure her son had enough to eat more than she did herself, despite her maids insistence. Now she’s frugal enough to spend on what she needs and nothing more. SOCIOPOLITICAL POSITION: She tries to stay out of politics now. She used to be quite high up there, but now she wants to stay as out of it as possible. The Yevon that she knew has changed and now she’s having doubts about where her faith lies. Not that anyone would know or remember who she is. EDUCATION LEVEL: High. Being raised and living in a temple until her twenties, she was able to learn a lot. Then living with the Guado she got an insight into their education, culture and political system. So pretty good, I’d say.
FAMILY.
FATHER: Unknown in game | Unnamed Yevon Priest. MOTHER: Unknown in game | Unnamed Yevon Priestess. SIBLING/S: None. Only Cild EXTENDED FAMILY: N/A SIGNIFICANT OTHER(S): Jyscal Guado (Husband) NAME MEANING/S: Means ‘Soul’ or ‘Breath’ in Latin. Can refer to Anima Sola or ‘lonely soul’ in Roman Cathlic. TASTE/S: Flavourful dishes, she’s grown quite fond of vegetarian dishes thanks to the Guado, herbal teas, pastries. NUMBER: 3 COLOR: Pale blues, lilacs, blue midtones, a little bit of red, gold, earthy green.
EXTRA.

December Goals Update
Time to round up the stuff I got done! This one is a big update, despite both accomplishments and this january’s goals being quite straightforward this time. ^-^)/
I already know - I ended up focusing on one very specific goal, and made significant progress JUST in that. And... if I do what I am PLANNING for January... then hopefully I’ll make more progress. But lol, we’ll see. We know how much I suck at sticking to my plans >o>
Things accomplished:
Chinese novel chapters read in December: 20 (Tian Ya Ke - 19, aka read about 24% of the novel this past month! This was the big goal I ended up focusing on - I want to finish reading through my first full novel this year! I did a majority of those chapters in the last 2 weeks, so if I get motivated again, I might really reach this goal. We’ll see. I REALLY do want to break the milestone of getting through one complete novel soon, and it being a priest one would be icing on the cake. Reading method - intensively, using Pleco Reader, looking up all unknown words. I picked up a significant amount of words so far, but it’s still a big challenge lol).
Chapters I studied with Listening-Reading Method: 8 (Most of these were Tian Ya Ke, and dmbj 2. I ended up getting really into reading though, and skipping this step later on as it slowed down my reading time. This January, I would like to do l-r method MORE, because I’ve finally got Guardian all prepped to do that novel with it. I’d love to do l-r method all the way through the novel guardian... I hope I manage it... avenuex did a beautiful audiobook for it, and I’d love to work through it. The only demotivating factor? l-r method takes a big time dedication - 5-10 minutes to read a chapter in english, 20 minutes to listen to the chapter while looking at the english text, 20 minutes to listen to the chapter while looking at the chinese text... so around 50 minutes to do a single chapter. And guardian has 106+ chapters ToT. That said, imagine how improved my listening skills would be after roughly 88* hours of listening to chinese I can mostly comprehend? Considering just a handful hours of l-r method has already bumped my listening skills up noticeably to me. In addition to Guardian, I would very much like to do l-r method with Silent Reading as an excuse to re-read the novel and listen to the audiobook - which is around 66 free chapters available at least. I figure l-r method with priest novels, in combo with reading priest novels like Tian Ya Ke, will help with picking up vocabulary in reading and listening a bit. Plus, I plan to do l-r method in the order: listen to english, then listen to chinese, which tends to help me pick up more reading comprehension better than the reverse order.)
Chinese audio listened to: 14 (a surprisingly large number? I don’t remember doing this much lol? I think some of this is me listening to dmbj audios, and some was other chinese things, and a tiny bit was restarting the spoonful chinese audio. Again, I think listening more has been helping out a lot)
shows watched in only chinese: roughly 2 (I watched a bit of a few eps of border town prodigal, some tlt3 raws, some short vids, half of anti fraud league ep 1, half of some spy show, basically i was not in a focused mood lol)
Personal goals met:
finally got my stomach to stop hurting! i guess it wanted less carbs. also debloated 10 lbs so i guess its happier lol. still not sure what else it wants from me.
started writing a personal story, period piece with pirates and bisexual messes and i’m quite excited tbh. So now this story, and Nanase, are active original wips
handled doctor stuff wooh!
read more of my cpstd book and made more comprehensive plans on what to do when i get emotional flashbacks - and i think the prep work has been really helpful so far, i’m hopeful my lowered stress now is a part of that lol
formatted 2 books! WOOH! in process of formatting 2 more, and learning how the fuck to do a parallel text - anyone know how??? I’m having a nightmare, I’d love to do left page english right page chinese, but all I’m finding are how to use columns to do dual texts beside each other on the same page. Which is much more cramped to read... but I suppose I can live with it if it’s the only option I have.
Goals for January will be pretty straightforward to be honest. I am in a very reading-focused mood. (I mean we’ll see how long that lasts, ToT since my attention jumps randomly, but I’ve got everything Prepped to lean heavy into reading for my studying for the foreseeable future). I plan to focus on reading as my main study method, to cover listening and reading and picking up vocabulary/hanzi. Optionally, I might listen to chinese audio in the background to further help with listening/vocabulary (like Chinese Spoonfed Audio, or audiobooks), or I might watch a show in chinese (whether I do this completely depends on if I feel like it).
Later on in the year, if reading is getting easier - then long term, I think I’ll want to go back to Alan Hoenig’s Chinese Characters book and read through it for a solid foundation to fill in gaps, read my chinese grammar books for same reason, use my pronunciation app... and then dive into both language exchange apps and tutors more firmly for actual writing and speaking and interacting with others. Basically, long term, I’d like to work on filling in my gaps and correcting any mistakes I haven’t figured out, then work on production more which will be significantly weaker skills by then. But in the immediate, I want to just focus on what I enjoy - reading - and use it to pick up as many words as possible.
Goals for January:
Continue reading Tian Ya Ke. Work on reading through my first complete novel in chinese. Continue counting chapters read, as I might look at a few novels - but sincerely, I WANT to focus on one book so Tian Ya Ke is the GOAL. I will be quite happy if I can get the book to 50% read by the end of this month, but we’ll see... and quite honestly I’ll be floored if I get to 100% within the month - but if it gets easier as I pick up more words, anything’s possible. Ideally, I would like to l-r method a few chapters. I do think it speeds up my reading speed because it makes me keep up with the narration, and it also helps me cement new words into my memory better. I remember words better when I hear them. However like - chapters tend to take me 40 minutes to read, and l-r method takes usually 15-20 minutes because of how dense priest’s chapters are. So... l-r method chapters take 1 hour a piece... if I get into a reading mood, I’ll ultimately probably just primarily focus on the reading.
Secondary goal, not as important, I will start this if desired but it might wait until February+. Listen-Read Method Guardian, until I’ve gotten through the entire novel. I finally have all the translations gathered up, I’ve got my chinese copy of the novel, and avenuex’s audiobook. I have everything ready to simply start. However, as mentioned, this is a time heavy activity. I do think it will be very helpful for improving my listening skills, and to a degree also - helping retain my reading skills, push my reading speed up a little, and maybe help me pick up some new words. I think it will be a very compatible activity with goal 1, or a nice follow up activity to goal 1. Also it is the DREAM, as that novel is what pushed me to start learning chinese initially... so I am very excited to read through it. Ideally, I start this activity AFTER Tian Ya Ke, and I do a full readthrough of the chapters like: read in english, audio with english, audio with chinese, read intensively in chinese. Basically, I would love to include a full intensive read through of Zhen Hun at the same time I’m l-r method’ing it. However that will be Even more time sapping, so that’s not necessarily gonna happen unless my reading speed for priest novels is a little better after Tian Ya Ke. I need to get through the chapters read in chinese in closer to 20 minutes instead of the current 40 minutes it takes me.
Optional. Listen to chinese when I can - in the background like Chinese Spoonfed, audio books, audio dramas, and by watching shows in only chinese. If I have time, and I feel like doing these, I will. It’s easy to add doing this to my day, so when I remember to do them, they’re helpful.
Main Goal for January - continue reading Tian Ya Ke. <3
Once that’s completed, next main goal - Listen-Read Method with Guardian.
See? Really extremely straightforward goal for January. Simply keep reading! I think the more I read, the easier it will get, the faster it will get, and the quicker I’ll be able to get through a LOT of the novels I want to check out. So... I have to start doing it, if I intend to get better.
Unrelated notes:
I’ve gotten really into Drakengard 3 lately. Which by extension, means really into Nier Automata again, Nier (Nier Replicant remaster is releasing and I am getting the version with the scriptbooks and am intensely excited), and Drakengard. Yoko Taro’s wild concepts and fascinating characterizations and way of telling stories has sucked me in again. And I am reminded how very much eventually learning to read Japanese IS still a long term goal of mine. I’m back to playing like 3 games right now I could so easily be practicing my japanese with... if I remembered any japanese ToT. It’s like at the edges of my brain... I remember the hiragana and katakana after a minute or two... the kanji I’ve completely forgotten, but since I know a lot of the meanings from chinese now, I can often parse out the meaning of sentences in manga I’ve got... I can’t remember the particles off the top of my head or when I listen, but when I read their meaning clicks again fast... I know that when I go back, its just a matter of a crash course and then diving in again. And wow am I eager. But I know myself, and japanese is gonna take a WHILE. And chinese is currently taking a LOT of dedication, I don’t even really have time to work on my french reading lol. So I would really prefer to get at least another year in chinese before even trying to start studying japanese again. (And realistically 2-3 more years of chinese, because I genuinely think a solid basis in speaking skills/basic listening skills, and generally Competent webnovel reading skills I want before I stop actively studying chinese... because by that time I’ll want to keep reading/listening to chinese for pleasure, chatting when needed, and if I stop studying before that point I know I personally will just end up needing to relearn some big chunks. I also think if I try to go back to japanese before that point, I will have major issues confusing the two when reading. My japanese was upper-beginner when I quit, and when I started chinese I sped past that point in chinese to the point pretty quickly chinese blocked out what japanese i knew and it made japanese reading easier but only to a point. My chinese I’d put at ‘beginner’ still?? But compared to my japanese its significantly farther - in chinese I can currently read manhua without a dictionary and get enough to translate most of it myself, and read simpler novels and get most of it, and read more complex novels and get the gist main idea even if its a slog.
With japanese? Ahahahahahah! I was able to read the very simplest of manga and only get the very bare main idea gist, could NOT even comprehend any novel, and could play a video game on MEMORY of what i knew the context was, only picking out quite basic words. However, even though my chinese has gotten a fair bit further... I want it even further before I stop actively studying it so much. I want it to the point its where my french reading level was at about 2.5 years into french (or honestly, a bit Better than my french was tbh). I want my chinese to be to the point, where I recognize enough hanzi that I can guess the meaning of some new words, that I can look up most new words with with pinyin because i at Least know the pinyin for most hanzi i see, and where in most not-too-difficult webnovels i read, I know enough of the words, that i can comfortably follow the gist of the main plot without too much strain even if i miss details. so at that point, I’ll still likely want to build up my vocabulary more - so that i can learn to translate, and so that i can pick up details easier, and read faster. But I’ll at least be at a point where i can easily maintain the skills i have and improve them a bit naturally by just continuing to read. I mean... realistically even, I should try to keep studying chinese a lot at that point... I really, really want to be able to read chinese novels. But that’s probably the minimum at which I’d feel quite comfortable focusing on another language intensively.
With japanese, I already have a study plan too! A study plan I know works for me! It’ll be so simple! Parts 1-4 would be structured study, parts marked + would be options to move onto, and parts marked * would be activities that could be done concurrently.
The japanese study plan, whatever year I finally can get to it:
Listen to Japanese Audio Lessons (japaneseaudiolessons.com). I did this before, and it helped my listening comprehension/vocabulary pick up so much.
Read Learn to Read in Japanese Vol I, II, III (by the same people). I loved these books back when I started them, the best mnemonics that I’d found for myself to pick up the kanji - easiest way for me to pick them up without brute forcing it.
(concurrently with above) go through Nukemarines LLJ memrise decks. Literally, just CRAM through those. I did that at the 2+ year mark for japanese, and that was REALLY when I was finally able to start reading and trying video games, so it clearly was what worked for me.
Read my book Read Japanese. Haven’t tried this yet, but it looks like a good place to progress, This would be done after step 1+2, either concurrently with Nukemarine or after Nukemarine depending on how much is done. Just cram Through this book since it’s got a lot of basics in the beginning. Its in the same structure as my DeFrancis Chinese Readers and very well suited to my learning style.
Read my Tuttle Read Japanese book. More difficult, goes into like 2000 kanji, a ton of vocab, and most people who read this said afterward reading regular japanese material was quite doable.
+If my Nukemarine deck is completed - move onto one of my japanese decks with more words, or Clozemaster Japanese sentences.
+If my japanese audio lessons are completed - move onto one of my other japanese audio collections like the japanese pimsleur that was condensed, or that website with a ton of condensed audio of episodes (https://www.paliss.com/). Or youtube channels like Game Gengo (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT12i1gB38HG1olutL08nID8gaGWHZS4v).
+at the point Nukemarine’s deck is done, Listening-Reading method with japanese novels is an option.
+at the point I’m done with all Read Japanese books, may read through some other japanese textbooks I have, starting with: Japanese Particles and Common Sentence Structures, Kodansha Kanji Learner’s Guide.
*Find a japanese reader equivalent to Pleco (check subreddit r/learnjapanese, r/refold, r/massimmersionapproach). Start reading whatever japanese novels I want. Which knowing me, will probably be light novels, maybe some visual novels, and video game related materials. *Ideally this step would be done last, but knowing me, it’ll be done whenever i feel like starting - could be attempted as early as midway through the Nukemarine decks.
*Listen to japanese - so many options here, realistically it would be me playing video games in japanese, watching jdramas, watching/listening to spinoff material of stories I like like the YorHa stage plays etc. Can be attempted as early as midway through Nukemarine decks.
*reading manga could be anywhere in this list, although I don’t do it much anymore. But I was just getting to being able to try this last time I was studying japanese, so I could start up again whenever. Only negative, I would say, is I think my improvement suffered back then because I was too scared to try reading actual novels. So novels are prioritized as reading material. It would be nice to help translate some mangas though - so there’s an option.
*maybe try translating some japanese things i have interest in, at a late point.
I think maybe, the biggest thing studying chinese has taught me about how i learn languages, is that I improve faster when challenged. I learn better when challenged. I tried to read Chinese novels from the first few months (not well, but i tried lol), I watched chinese dramas from day one, and I tried to watch chinese shows only in chinese from month 5 onward. From month 5 onward I started trying to talk/write with people (knowing maybe 400 words at first, quickly bumping up to 1000 words in a month cause of just needing it, so it definitely helped me). And when I started listening to audio more, my listening skill noticeably improved within a few months. As a result, my chinese in a little over a year is taking much less time to improve then I projected it was going to (I figured the progress I’ve made so far, was going to take 3-4 years). Whereas with japanese, I didn’t try to start reading or playing video games or listening a lot until 2 years into studying... and I also didn’t make any noticeable improvement until then. So going into any language study moving forward, I’ll do more to challenge myself earlier. Since clearly its helpful to me.
#december progress#december goals#japanese#japanese study plan#study plan#u can really tell japanese has been on my mind lately lol#chinese study plan#to be honest though i feel really happy with my chinese right now#i have been working for a YEAR to get to this point in chinese#to where i can primarily make my studying be reading. and i'm definitely here.#i can just keep reading and listening for a few months for chinese. i dont really need to work on varying it anymore#since my vocab foundation is decent now.#in a while like i said - long term - i'd like to do a readthrough of my textbooks#to catch onto errors i make and to iron out any points i still am not clear on#and really HAMMER in knowledge of basics#and then i want to focus a lot of my study on producing the language/communicating#i am hoping by that point my reading skills will be fast enough i'll be able to just read for pleasure#in some down time. and listen to audio dramas in downtime. to retain#what gains i've made there.#but production i'm happy to put off for a while so this plan seems good to me.
