Days pass without word from you, seonghwa's anxiety grows. He's holed up in his apartment, watching the news for any hint of trouble. The story about Yuto's demise breaks, and he breathes a sigh of relief. He dials your number, needing to know for sure. The line rang longer than necessary before you answered.

”Hello…..?”

"It's done then?" seonghwa asks gruffly, skipping the pleasantries. "The news says Yuto's dead. That was you, wasn't it?" He pauses, waiting for your confirmation.

you smirk on the other side of the phone “mmh…”

"Good." seonghwa sounds satisfied. "That's... that's good. You handled it quietly. No heat on you." He takes a drag of his cigarette. "What now? You're gonna take over Ryui's operations?"

“Yeah, now that Yuto and his men are gone…I’ll start from scratch…everything fell into place, I thank you for that…but I’m curious…..whenever the heat goes down what will you do since Ryui’s been sentenced to life…hmm?”

"I dunno... I thought I might ask if... if there's a place for me with you." seonghwa's voice is hesitant, almost hopeful. "I was Ryui's right-hand man for a reason, you know. And I feel like I owe you, for doubting you for all that time."

you chuckle lightly sucking your teeth for a Second in deep thought. “Okay….fine…”

"Alright then." seonghwa's voice brightens. "I'll lay low a while longer, make sure the heat's off me. Then I'll come back to Seoul, yeah?" He pauses, then chuckles. "You know, I never thought I'd be workin' for a woman like you."

You just smile before hanging up.

seonghwa sets down his phone, feeling a sense of relief and hope. He spends the next few months laying low, keeping a low profile until he's certain the heat has died down. Then, he packs his bags and boards a flight back to Seoul.

It was from his informant. “sir there’s an issue, one of Yuto’s cousin’s lived through the explosion word is he’s going to try to assassinate harin because she killed Yuto…he’s planning on going about it tomorrow…”

seonghwa's expression darkens as he listens to the informant's words. "Assassinate Harin?" He repeats, his voice low and deadly. "Get me everything you can on this cousin. I want to know his name, his location, his plan..” He pauses, thinking quickly.

“We got the address about 5 minutes ago, sir..”

"Good, let’s finish this…” seonghwa says grimly. "I'll meet you at the safe house in ten minutes. We'll take care of this tonight." He hangs up the phone, his mind racing with plans. He slips back into the bedroom, his eyes landing on you, sleeping peacefully in their bed.

your eyes flutter open, your hooded eyes landing on his slightly distressed face “what's wrong?…” you ask with a small voice

"Go back to sleep, baby," he says softly, quickly pulling on clothes. "I have something I have to take care of. I'm so sorry, but I'll be back before morning, okay?" He sits on the edge of the bed, tucking your hair back.

You nod softly “please be safe” you kiss him gently

He returns the kiss, deepening it briefly before pulling back. "Always, baby. Lock the door behind me, alright?" He presses one last kiss to your forehead before grabbing his gun and coat, slipping out of the bedroom. You follow after him gently shutting and locking the door before returning to your bed….

Bloom: Please stop trying to use your powers in the dorms, you've set off the fire alarm so many times that all the other students think it's broken

Stella: While it's impressive you can do your make-up while sparring, please stop. I can't grade your technique if you are distracted and not trying your best

Flora: No eco crimes of any caliber or I'm banning you from the greenhouse 

Tecna: Stop breaking through Alfea's defenses as a "test" of your skill. You are going to let someone slip in one of these days. I will make you a barrier to play around with, just stop doing it to the main one

Musa: Please keep your music at an acceptable volume

Hearing other people playing music is NOT a challenge

Aisha: Stop climbing the outside of the school. I will find somewhere for you to rock climb, you're scaring the other students by climbing past their windows 

Stop telling the other students Bloom is God. Being the Fairy that holds the power of the Great Dragon's Flame, is not the same thing as being the Great Dragon

Flora: While your "onion fumes" spell is incredibly creative and amazingly useful in combat scenarios, I ask that you only use it during outdoor sparring. Making everyone's eyes burn while your sparring is something we want to avoid

Musa: The Cloud Tower girls are thankful that Riven drew the attention of monsters to make their escape, they are not "hussies" attempting to "take" anything from you. Stop trying to fight them

Saladin being unable to say no to Helia is not grounds to abuse this fact to get your hands on random specialist weapons, you've already put yourselves in the infirmary multiple times. At least get someone to train you 

Aisha: This is not a challenge

Flora: Covering your enemies in hornet-attracting pollen is not an acceptable tactic to deal with bullies, please just tell me about it next time

Stop daring Aisha to do random things to see if she's naturally good at it. She probably is

Aisha: Your honor is not lost just because you can't tie a cherry stem with your tongue. Stop adding random things to your training regiment

Amaryl throwing an attack at Stella, which she batted away without a second thought, is not an acceptable reason to make a morphix monster specifically programmed to chase her around the school. I was going to expel her for that stunt anyway

Not trusting new teachers is understandable, hazing them and dumping potions of revealing on them is not. I will let you give them potions in a controlled environment

The hallways are not a controlled environment

Bloom: A specialist telling you that you'd be "prettier if you smiled" is appropriate grounds for flipping him off, not breaking his nose

Aisha: You too

Tecna: You as well

Bloom: Saying "this is exactly what her ghost warned me of" about random things in the middle of a conversation is not acceptable behavior. You are scaring the freshmen

"As the prophecy foretold" is not much better 

Just because Wizigiz says something is ok does not actually make it ok

Stella: Stop making up magical artifacts. I've gotten 16 different questions about completely made-up objects and it's obvious you're the one doing this 

Tecna: At least pretend to pay attention in class. I know you already know most of these things but building a robot on your desk distracts the other students 

Musa: Riven leaving you on "read" is not an acceptable reason to hijack the announcement system to play break-up songs, he probably just checked his phone in between training. Stop doing this. We have actual announcements to make

At least try to be subtle about the fact that you girls are under different rules than the rest of the school. The freshmen are starting to get ideas, and I don't want to deal with that many students in detention

Especially when sneaking your boyfriends in. Yes, I know. None of you are subtle 

Tecna: Stop hacking into the royal students' phones and systems. You are going to start an intergalactic war. Airing out Royalty's dirty laundry is only acceptable if it's really bad, and at least warn me first so I can find a political advisor

Aisha: Stop training the pixie animals to attack people you don't like

Bloom: Tell someone when you're going to take a surprise vacation home, last time Stella woke up the entire wing of the dorms with her screaming because she thought you were kidnapped 

If you're going to get payback for Griffin giving you the runaround when you were at Cloud Tower at least don't get caught. Griffin is somehow more annoying when she's smug

Musa: Stop trying to get the girls to start a band with you, Tecna is tone-deaf, I know you're just doing this to annoy people. Stop it

Tecna: Making a complication of Erendor and Samara making fools of themselves is funny, hacking the projector system to show it during an assembly is not. Just mass text it to everyone, I know you can, you didn't need to do that

If your going to skip class because of a magical emergency it better be a real emergency or I'm going to tell your teachers to start grading your missed assignments

Stella: A bad hair day is not an emergency 

Aisha: Stop intentionally riling up Riven when he's at the doom, I don't care how funny you find annoying him is, just because we can fix property damage with magic doesn't make it acceptable

Stella: Stop biting people. Just stop. It's unsanitary

Do not have Riven, Sky, and Helia at your dorm at the same time. I've heard how those two can get when Helia is there to instigate and I'm not dealing with that. If I get a hint of those three being around at the same time I'm giving you all detention

On that note, if Riven and Sky are going to be in the dorms either keep them in different rooms or have Brandon there to mediate

Tecna and Musa: Stop using your powers to freak out the freshmen when you tell them stories of your battles

Stop using your power to freak out Stella in general 

Stop trying to freak out Flora, it won't work

Flora: Just because you haven't blown anything up in the lab yet, doesn't mean your experiments are permitted 

Musa: Please control your pixie. She's convinced half the students she has the authority to give them detention, and while she's not wrong about their punishments, she can't keep doing this

Bloom: Lording your newfound strength above your enemies is not an acceptable way to use magic. If you're going to mess with this "Mitzi" do it during the breaks 

Please be aware of who is around when you ask Brandon questions about his life as a royal guard. Ophelia has had multiple girls show up because they overheard him talking about torture in graphic detail

Flora: Please warn me when you invite Miele over. Yes, only you and only Miele. I can't even begin to describe the amount of chaos that child can cause with her bugs

If you don't warn me I'm banning all of your siblings from visiting 

Bloom: Please stop avoiding the staff's questions about Kiko. He can perfectly comprehend language. Why can he comprehend language Bloom

Talking about/analyzing the warlords is pretty much meaningless since they're kind of a nothing characters but I'll do it anyways:

Firstly, I feel like three of them is too much. With Grimmel, that makes four antagonists in one movie. Of course it's not impossible to write all four well - but with other things the film focuses on such as The Hidden World and the fury romance - even with enough screentime, one of them is bound to be underdeveloped.

I've seen people say there's no reason for them to exist at all. I disagree, I think removing them is arguably worse. They are Drago's allies, him being defeated puts a dent in their plans and makes Hiccup a threat in need of elimination. They have a reason to be there. Defeating Drago should have consequences; building all this up then having no sign of it in the next installment - while the villain is a hunter with zero connection to anything - doesn't make sense for the worldbuilding and would be a backwards progression.

Another thing is the personalities given to these characters. I do like how even though with their limited screentime and depth, we can see they all have their own, unique personality rather than everyone being the same angry brutes. But do said characteristics make sense for their role?

Chaghatai Khan is who I consider the best fit for his job. He's smartest of the three, calm and collected. Unlike Griselda, he doesn't let his frustrations with Grimmel get to him. He seems to know when someone's useful and when they need elimination. All the attributes you need for a succesfull leader are present.

Griselda is what you'd expect from this character archetype. Quick to anger, doesn't respect failure, harsh and a ruthless fighter. I don't think Griselda's dumb, but with how easily irritated she gets, she'd probably start few extra conflicts on her own if it wasn't for Chaghatai stopping her. I kinda wish there was more of her interactions with Grimmel, the tiny bit of their dynamic that we did get sparked some interest in me.

Ragnar makes the absolute least sense to me. He's shown to be cheerful, a bit of a coward and even childish. Not the personality I'd write for this character trope. You're telling me he raided villages, possibly enslaved both people and dragons, build an army and went on a succesfull conquest so barbaric it earned him rank of a warlord? An explanation for this could be him being in a nepo baby situation. But we can't really speculate on that, since there are no canon implications for it.

Now I don't wanna sound like a snob who thinks they know better than THW's writers, because I definetly don't. So feel free to ignore this part. Personaly to avoid having characters who are/should be important to the plot then end up with no development or arc whatsoever, I'd either:

A) Get rid of one or two warlords, making the cast less bloated - which means there are less characters to focus on, allowing more exploration for the remaining antagonists.

B) Have one of them takes on a role akin to Drago. Whoever that would be stays a warlord and becomes the driving force of conflict, meanwhile the other two are reduced to generals. Grimmel has a role similiar to Eret, as in he's under the warlord's command. This way it's clearer that he works for them and is not a warlord himself. You know, instead of like in the movie where he just walks in and bosses everyone around like he's been their leader all along. Seriously, why were the supposed brutal conquerers letting him treat them like insignificant soldiers while they're just standing around pouting?

C) Remove the trio entirely and leave only Grimmel. Either he's a warlord who disguised himself as a hunter, or he used to be a hunter who then became a warlord. Why am I insisting on not keeping him just as a hunter? Like I mentioned above; to me, going from armies and wars to simpler dragon hunters feels backwards.

So in conclusion: The Warlords should've been given a lot more importance to the plot because they have connections to the previous film's antagonist and I believe both them being empty characters and not existing at all is a waste. Think of the possibilities that could've been done with them, like making them pararells to Hiccup's friends/family.

Luckily my professor is cool and gave us a creative project option for the assignment, because if I'd had to write another research paper I would have lost my goddamned mind The Clerk's Tale from Griselda's perspective, in an attempt to humanize her character and figure out her thoughts and feelings. I wrote it in two days and it could definitely use some polishing, but I don't want to spend any more time on it, so too bad! XD

Honestly now I like this even more because it would actually make Stella struggle through season 1. I imagine she was using her scepter as kind of a crutch bc 1) it was easier and 2) she didn't realize the extent of which she was leaning on it. She is an extremely powerful fairy, but she's been training exclusively with the scepter nearly ever since she got it, and that was very young. Scepter is helping her grounding her magic, channeling it precisely, it's even helping her put some kick behind her spells. Other than that, it's also giving her more confidence, which she will lose without it, so even the stuff she's okay doing without it will suffer somewhat. After losing the ring in season 1, she will spend the rest of the season struggling to achieve without it what she already could easily do *with* it. It will be a very irritating, tiresome experience for her, and extremely humbling too. I also think Griselda eventually starts giving her extra tutoring lessons, because she NEEDS the extra time and she has bad habits that need to be broken- similar to how Cotadorta is tutoring Riven. Griselda ofc is very gruff with her and doesn't really *show* the "love" part of tough love, but those lessons are extremely valuable to Stella's growth as a fairy. Her struggling with her power is also going to help her bond with Bloom more. Yes, they're still at two vastly different levels, but they're both struggling to keep up with what they should already have covered. It also gives something for Brandon to support her in, similarly to how Bloom confided in Sky about needing to know more about her past (but Brandon won't fumble this the way Sky did his thing with Bloom lol). And OF COURSE, when she finally gets her ring back during the season 1 final battle, she's going to blow herself away with how amazing she is. (she won't go back to relying exclusively on it, though. Her 1on1 lessons with Griselda carry on through her whole schooling. And just like Riven with Cotadorta, she still doesn't realize she's Griselda's favorite.) I also think this would be a fun moment that history could misremember. Like obviously it is VERY hard to misremmeber history in their day and age, especially since everyone lives for so fucking long so usually people whose deeds are in history books are alive for a long while AFTER the deeds have been commemorated, and they're often consulted before shit is put down, but just imagine Riven talking with some dude, he's a bit tipsy, and he embelishes some shit just to pull the guy's leg, only for a week later a new report in modern history journal to come out calling Riven the "Warden of The Ring", a loyal confidante of Solaria that has been tasked with keeping the Princess's ring until she was ready for it. Dude's gf just stole it like a fucking raccoon and then he forgot about it lol. Stella beats him with her shoe while he laughs his ass off. (and yes Griselda TRANFORMS into her Enchantix form when she's tutoring Stella)

Omg but imagine- Winx break into CT to get back Stella's ring, only they *don't* get it, because the ring isn't there. Trix figured out they can't use it, but they still don't want to give it back (duh) so Darcy gave it to Riven. Riven doesn't give af and just carries it on a chain around his neck and no one knows bc the ring itself is always underneath his shirt. Trolling of the worst degree. Stella doesn't go home for the Day of the Rose for 2 reasons: 1) she doesn't want to deal with her parents' approaching divorce, and 2) she's too scared to tell them she lost the ring. Bonus points if Riven completely forgot about it and when the time is for the final battle in S1, Stella laments "oh if only I had my ring" and he's like "Wait, this thing?".

I know why you asked the second. Yes, I am riled, in my usual eager way. Here's more of my Thoughts™️ on the subject of common grammatical errors, see other posts under my 'aldren has an opinion tag' to read about others I've observed and tips for correcting them!

A type of grammar flaws I come across with some frequency is incorrect usage of "ground" or "floor". The ground is outdoors, a floor will be indoors, but I've seen writers have their characters hit the floor out in a forest, or crouch on the ground on the fifth story of a building. As a general rule of thumb, the ground is a natural thing, usually outdoors, but also in natural formations like caves or hollow trees. A floor is what characters stand on inside any manmade structure, no matter how intact or dilapidated, even if said floor is dirt, so long as the walls and ceiling are halfway intact. Promenades, roads, trails, etc fall under the "ground" category. Man, I hope that makes sense!
