I just want to reread the odyssey in English, because I read in my first language, but it's super hard to be serious while reading when Odysseus called himself one nose (nobody in Hebrew)

i'm not a Catholic but i think it's way too funny that "Daniel" was the prophet to escape a lion's den. meanwhile our Dan made the lion's den his literal home
ooooh yes the Daniel lion connection I never would have thought of that -- it's really interesting if you look at the original story:
Tumblr media
basically king darius of persia made a law that anyone who worships another god but him has to be thrown in the lions den, and then daniel from judeah shows up and darius likes him a lot but unfortunately he worships another god, and the law is law so daniel must be thrown to the lions and this makes king darius extremely upset
but daniel doesn't escape -- no, he survives. he is not maimed by the lions at all because of the faith that he has -- so in a way, daniel (that is, the daniel of The Bible) also makes a lion's den his own.
Tumblr media
i don't totally know what to make of it if certain theories are to be believed and daniel also is the lion aka ran the philslion twitter account
i know people's lives are not stories they don't have biblical references BUT dan and phil are the main characters of the universe so if anyone's life would it would be theirs.

went so far down the wikipedia rabbit hole that I found a paper that I think can only be read in the voice of Jonathan Frakes Asking You Things
Tumblr media
[ID: a screenshot reading:
"... precise features or to have specific relationships with other models. Would you like to live in a universe where CH holds, but (diamond symbol) fails? Or where (2 to the aleph sub n = aleph sub n plus 2) for every natural number n? Would you like to have rigid Suslin trees? Would you like every Aronszajn tree to be special? Do you want a weakly compact cardinal kappa for which (diamond sub kappa) REG fails? Set theorists build models to order."
End ID.]

Had the thought of Joel smallishbeans hels being almost like a version of narcissus or some other Greek hero. He's tall, almost too tall, he's handsome, almost too handsome. He's often spoken about like he's a gift from the gods, but it's a death sentence. Respect turns to jealously quickly in hels after all
Hels!Joel is Junji Ito's Tomie confirmed?
No but I do really like this Narcissus/Adonis style paragon of beauty and perfection, and he is doomed to walk a fine line between needing attention to thrive, and too much attention inevitably leading to downfall. It's like when Hamlet recognizes he's in a tragedy, but he has the will to break the fourth wall and fight it. He can't fully predict how everyone else will act though, and will always have mixed success. Doomed By The Narrative vibes in a self aware character who's trying to beat the allegations.

today on random languages my brain is going 馃憖 at is biblical hebrew and biblical greek
#the following tags will have discussions of my faith and christianity in general so if you're not interested in that then stop reading ig#some lore: in my early teens i did consider doing a theology degree at uni and becoming an ordained minister/taking a role in the church#this was before i found out a) in my denomination only men can be ministers (deaconesses exist but yeah) and b) the church as an institutio#is pretty yikes#and then finding out i'm queer and nonbinary threw other spanners in there but despite it all my faith is still so so important to me#i want to start learning about christian/comparative theology more broadly to understand both my own faith and others' better#idk why but today i randomly ended up on the webpage for the theological college in NI and was just looking through the courses they offer#maybe someday in the distant future i'll have the money and time to burn to do an online postgrad degree with them#but yeah they have a postgrad certificate in biblical greek 馃憖 which looked v cool#the internet is a wonderful place and i found a pretty comprehensive looking biblical hebrew course on youtube and i'd probs be able to fin#biblical greek somewhere if i looked hard enough#greek and hebrew are both such linguistically interesting languages and being able to read some would also help in my theological adventure#so new side quest just dropped ig? at least it's my reading week this week so I can dabble in them with no consequences#i've also been wanting to try and learn a language via an immersion focus - obvs can't do full immersion with biblical greek and hebrew but#yeah using a less grammar and vocab focused approach than i'm used to#i have access to digital bibles so i could just choose a v literal english translation and then try and parse what's happening?#yeah we'll see#langblr#ellis exclaims

the 'dont ~claim~/create w greek mythology/hellenism if ur not greek' ppl r the most annoying ppl omg. like yes those english aristocrats were thieving assholes n american kids today acting like they "own" greek mythology is cringe. u can even argue that greek voices r not heard enough nor is any other era of greek history but cmon. the ~cultural appropriation~ angle is a bit much. remember when those beloved ancestors conquered like half of asia, settled there n enforced their culture on the region?

Okay, I just found out that historically Mary was between fourteen and fiteen yo when the archangel Gabriel gave her the pregnancy news. My whole Jesus is somewhat real on Good Omens so how did THAT conversation went made me actually more curious now because it's not only Good Omens Gabriel gives bonkers news to a human but Good Omens Gabriel gives bonkers news to a teenager.
