Graham is the absolute, unquestioned leader of the Comanche, and while his leadership does touch on despotic at times, it is his willingness to listen to those around him that keeps him from becoming a tyrant. Wise enough to know that he does not possess all the knowledge he needs to rule effectively, and compassionate enough to believe that everyone deserves to have their voice heard, Graham weighs the considerations of all members of his tribe who offer them. His most trusted advisers are his Tribal Council, a group comprised of the leadership under Graham. All of the faces — save for Peter Dinklage — are open to change so long as they are of the same racial background. Graphics are available for the faces used below. Minor details are open to change as well, and original members of the Comanche who advise Graham are welcome!
ANNA STARK
the huntress, played by liv
One of the longest-serving and most trusted members of the Comanche, Anna, often called the Huntress, is the leader of the Comanche scouts and Graham's most fiercely loyal supporter. Having endured much together, she is a close friend of Graham and his physician, Charles, as well as Graham's successor in the event of his untimely death.
CHARLES LANE
the physician
Charles was trained as a physician by his father — and later studied at the Citadel under Graham's patronage — and has served as Graham's personal physician, as well as the physician of his consorts, since being freed from slavery. Charles is Graham's closest friend and confidant, knowing more about Graham's upbringing, psychological issues, and physical limitations than anyone else in the tribe. Charles has always idolized Graham for the man he is rather than as an ideal, and while he is not officially Graham's adviser, his advice is weighed above that off all except Anna.
CRISTIAN AMADOR
the general
The day-to-day leader of the Comanche warriors, often referred to as the General, Cristian is not as firm a believer in the Comanche philosophy as most, but is still a loyal supporter of Graham, owing him a debt for his help in bringing the raiders who killed Cristian's family to justice. Despite his lesser conviction, Graham respects his opinion greatly, believing it is important to have an adviser with an "outside" perspective. Though not necessarily friends, they trust one another implicitly. Cristian gets along well with Nikolas Kahler, whom he has an easier time understanding.
INDRA GHALE
the architect
Often referred to as the Architect, Indra is responsible for maintaining Buchanan Dam and advising Graham on technical matters. Once an engineer working for Followers, Indra was part of the team sent by the Followers to aid the Comanche in restoring Buchanan Dam. She was initially shocked by what she perceived were barbaric practices, but after spending time with the tribe and being welcomed by its members, she grew to believe in what they stood for, and more importantly, realized she could do more good as a member of the tribe than as a Follower. She often encourages members of the tribe to travel to the Citadel to study technical skills that will benefit the Comanche.
NIKOLAS KAHLER
the cavalier, played by sara
The head of the newly formed Comanche Cavalry and their horses, often referred to as the Cavalier, Nikolas joined the Comanche only out of necessity. Having been forced to flee for his life as a result of his elder brother's paranoia, Nikolas and his sister only survived their escape as a result of Graham's intervention when the Kahler forces chasing them entered his territory. Persuaded by Graham's promise of an important position within the tribe and the pleading of his sister, who was instantly drawn to Graham. Nikolas is not a true believer in the Comanche way of life, believing Graham to be a tough, capable leader, but also an unpredictable madman. Still, Graham treats him with respect, takes his advice into consideration, and looks after his sister, and so Nikolas treats him with due respect.

SCOTUS takes up Miller retroactivity, unanimous juries, the insanity defense and criminal preemption in latest order list!
The Supreme Court is back in action this morning and today's order lists includes a list of four cases in which certioriari is granted.  Four criminal grants would enough to warm a chilly morning for me, but all four cases involve fairly "big ticket" concerns.  With the help of SCOTUSblog, here is the list of granted cases:
Mathena v. Malvo, 18-217
Issue: Whether the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit erred in concluding — in direct conflict with Virginia’s highest court and other courts — that a decision of the Supreme Court, Montgomery v. Louisiana, addressing whether a new constitutional rule announced in an earlier decision, Miller v. Alabama, applies retroactively on collateral review may properly be interpreted as modifying and substantively expanding the very rule whose retroactivity was in question.
  Ramos v. Louisiana, 18-5924
Issue: Whether the 14th Amendment fully incorporates the Sixth Amendment guarantee of a unanimous verdict.
  Kahler v. Kansas, 18-6135
Issue: Whether the Eighth and 14th Amendments permit a state to abolish the insanity defense.
  Kansas v. Garcia, 17-834
Issue: Whether the Immigration Reform and Control Act expressly pre-empts the states from using any information entered on or appended to a federal Form I-9, including common information such as name, date of birth, and social security number, in a prosecution of any person (citizen or alien) when that same, commonly used information also appears in non-IRCA documents, such as state tax forms, leases, and credit applications.
With so many Graham and Miller follow-up cases in the pipeline, I am not especially thrilled to see the Justices now decide to take up the Malvo case involving a government appeal of a (high-profile) defendant's win on a Miller retroactivity issues. Still, in the wake of the interesting mess that was Montgomery (see my little commentary, "Montgomery's Messy Trifecta), and the addition of two new Justices since then, I am grateful that these enduringly important issues are getting any at all.
Meanwhile, as the Malvo case might only cover a little issue, Ramos, Kahler and Garcia all cover big issues on a big canvas (though the result in Ramos seems easy to predict).  And, as always, I welcome reader input on what to expect or look forward to in these arenas.

3 Day-to-Night Outfits to Wear This Fall
New Post has been published on https://www.claritymakeupartistry.com/3-day-to-night-outfits-to-wear-this-fall/
3 Day-to-Night Outfits to Wear This Fall
Getting dressed in the morning is hard enough. You have to take into account the weather, what clothes are clean, what you feel comfortable wearing, whether you have an important meeting — the list goes on. And if you have plans after work, double those considerations. That’s why it’s important to fill your wardrobe with versatile pieces that can easily go from day to night.
Alfani, the modern workwear brand created for Macy’s, is perfect for this. It’s filled with professional, yet stylish, go-tos. When mixed with different accessories, they are as chic as they are practical. Little tweaks can make a huge impact on any outfit — a jewel-toned dress with pumps, for example, is a classic office look, but it transforms easily when topped with a cool leather jacket. With the right components and a little creativity, your office-friendly looks can have a second life. See how three basic outfits can go from desk to drinks to dinner below.
Demur to Downtown
Allison Kahler/STYLECASTER
Classic wear-to-work staples (like slingback heels and a trench coat) make this dress an office no-brainer. Plus, this deep rust color looks good on all different skin tones. When the sun sets, counteract the demur style of this dress for post-work happy hour by ditching the trench and ladylike heels for tough leather add-ons and metallic accents. Throw your hair up into a messy top-knot to nail that effortless “downtown” look.
Alfani Pleated Flounce Dress in Classic Rust, Created for Macy’s, $99.50 at Macy’s; Alfani Women’s Hazzel Ankle Booties in Black, Created for Macy’s, $99.50 at Macy’s; kate spade new york Link Collar Necklace in Gold, $52.25 at Macy’s; H&M Lightweight Trenchcoat, $59.99 at H&M; Mark & Graham Daily East/West Leather Tote, $229 at Mark & Graham; Zara Faux Suede Leather Jacket, $69.90 at Zara; Rebecca Minkoff Leo Clutch, $95 at Rebecca Minkoff.
Boardroom to Standing Room
Allison Kahler/Stylecaster.
The trick to pulling off a jumpsuit at the office is treating it like any other work-appropriate dress. Top it with a blazer and add accessories with a professional vibe. But don’t be afraid to play with a little bit of color — an unexpected pop of red makes any outfit more interesting. When it’s time to meet friends for drinks after work? A jumpsuit can go with you. Just wear it on its own and swap out your work bag for a clutch, your pumps for mules and add a pair of fun earrings. Pro tip: Use the clutch as a catchall inside your work tote for things like lipstick, chargers and gum.
Alfani Solid Wide-Leg Jumpsuit in Modern Navy, Created for Macy’s, $89.50 at Macy’s; Coach Crossbody Dufflette, $250 at Macy’s; I.N.C. Women’s Zitah Pointed Toe Pumps, Created for Macy’s, $69.50 at Macy’s; Land’s End Women’s Twill Two Button Blazer, $59.99 at Land’s End; Warby Parker Jane, $95 at Warby Parker; Steve Madden Global Clutch in Blue Floral/Gold, $19.03 at Macy’s; RACHEL Rachel Roy Gold-Tone Stone and Multi Mismatched Earrings, $38 at Macy’s; Loeffler Randall Coco High Heel Knot Slide in Marigold, $395 at Loeffler Randall.
Boys’ Club to Dinner Date
Allison Kahler/Stylecaster
Cropped wide-leg pants don’t always have to be worn with heels — try them with a pair of classic penny loafers and a button-down blouse for a borrowed-from-the-boys vibe. Style tip: Tuck in the blouse and button it all the way up. To get ready for your dinner date simply unbutton the blouse to let a lace-y camisole peek out, and untuck the hem so it can be tied at the waist. Sleek black and metallic shoes and accessories complete the transformation. Pro tip: Keep a pair of black heels and a piece of sparkly jewelry under your desk to be ready for post-work plans in a pinch.

This preview of the Hic & Hoc unsolved mysteries anthology comes to us from Graham Kahler. He is one of a few people who sent in a story about the Eilean Mor lighthouse mystery. For some reason, towards the end of our open call this particular story became very popular and I had several people write in to ask if the story was taken. I’m not sure what caused the sudden uptick of interest in the subject, but it sure is a spooky story.
I was previously unfamiliar with Kahler’s work, and I’m so glad he sent us this piece. He’s got the kind of style that is very simple but still gives the viewer a lot of information – terrific cartooning. Also: bonus points for occasional polyptychs.
And, hey! You can follow him on Tumblr!

Graham abandoned everything he was raised to believe when he was exiled from the Reverent. He denounced god and his earthly prophet, left behind the ideas of marriage and fidelity, and chose to love and lay with whomever he wished so long as they wished to do the same. He implored his people to do the same, to cherish those they cared for, and to fight and fend for them. Graham did not necessarily seek out his consorts, but rather, they were brought into the tribe and their bonds were formed naturally. Though they are all involved with Graham, they lead separate lives and interact with one another only when, and if, they choose to do so. All the names used below are open to change, as are the faces used — so long as the new faces are of the same basic racial background — and the finer details. I tried to leave everything vague except for the broad strokes to allow as much freedom as possible, but I do have various ideas for all of them that I'm happy to share. Graphics are available for everyone as well.
MARLENE BONES
twenty-nine, riley keough, played by danielle
The first of Graham's consorts, Marlene was a former slave brought into the Comanche after her owners were killed by Graham. She believed he would be no better than any of the others, but he proved her wrong, teaching her to read and sharing his interest in books with her. She became one of his most fervent supporters, his influence instilling a taste for violence in her, and one of the few who know that Graham is actually mortal. She is something of a mother figure among Graham's consort, and an influential member of the Comanche well beyond Graham's affection for her.
LUCY GRAY
twenty-eight, andreja pejic
Born as Lucas and raised among the last of the Reverent following their near destruction by the early Comanche, Lucy was forced to uphold a strict religious code that forced her to be someone she was not. Despite trying her best, she was still punished harshly and considered a heathen for failing to adhere to the values of the Reverent. Eventually, Graham killed the last remaining Reverent and freed her, telling her that she deserved to be whoever she wanted. She was welcomed into the Comanche as an equal and became Graham's consort. Lucy helps those who are new to the tribe adapt to their customs, and those who come from abusive environments overcome their trauma.
HANNAH PEARSON
twenty-five, courtney eaton, played by keely
Raised on a homestead in Comanche territory, Julia lived for years under the thumb of her abusive father until she was rescued by Comanche scouts and allowed to exact justice upon the man. She was brought back to Zion to be trained as a scout herself, but her training ended abruptly when she was shot in the leg during a skirmish and left unable to walk effectively. She went through an intense period of depression, during which Graham attempted to help her find a new purpose. She became responsible for educating and caring for the young members of the tribe, and grew to love Graham for showing her that she could still live.
EVAN BAILEY
twenty-eight, jaco van den hoven
Born a slave in the Republic, Evan was selected as an attendant and concubine for his owner, a woman. Never able to perform for her on account of his lack of attraction to women, he was eventually sold cheap to an unscrupulous slaver who sold to raiders outside of the Republic. The slaver accepted an invitation to sell to the Comanche, unaware of their beliefs, and when he brought the slaves to Zion, Graham had the slaver and his guards killed and the slaves freed. Evan became an attendant to Marlene, and eventually one of Graham's consorts himself after spending time with him.
ELISA KAHLER
thirty, rosie huntington-whiteley
The youngest sibling of reigning Cattle Baron Erik Kahler, Elisa spent the majority of her life learning to care for Kahler horses under the instruction of her uncle and alongside her brother, Nikolas. When her uncle Jakob rebelled against Erik and was subsequently defeated, she and Nikolas fled Junction Ranch with a number of horses to save themselves from Erik. A Comanche warband led by Graham Pryor saved her and Nikolas from their elder brother's cavalry, and afterward, they were welcomed into the Comanche. Her brother was swayed by being given an important position, tasked with raising horses for the Comanche and leading their cavalry, but Elisa quickly became a believer in what the Comanche stood for, and in their leader. She continues to aid her brother in caring for the horses.
VERA RENAUD
twenty-six, zoe kravitz, played by rosalind
The most recent consort of Graham's, Vera joined the Comanche after Graham conquered the village she was raised in and publicly executed her abusive partner for striking her. Intrigued by the fact that she did not look away from what Graham did to her former partner, he invited her to spend time with him in his seat of power, Zion, as well as to live in luxury amongst his consorts. She accepted, equally afraid of and enamored with him.
