Chasing After You (3) | tom holland

summary: you try to avoid tom at all costs, but it seems that he’s everywhere you go

A/N: welcome to the third part!! i’m having so much fun with writing this fic, i love it a lot and i hope you do too!! as always, feedback is greatly appreciated!

You weren’t quite sure how Sky persuaded you to get a Gym membership, but here you were, in the locker room, without said friend. Sky decided to go home over the weekend and that’s how you find yourself in the place you always used to hate.

You had to admit that it was a great distraction from all the things goweek on in your head. It had been one wee after you met up with Harrison, and since then, the two of you texted constantly. Uni was stressing you out as always so when Sky told you that she would leave you all alone for a weekend, you decided to do something for your body instead of eating a bucket of Ben & Jerrys.

You didn’t like the way that everyone could see you working out, but after the training, you always felt good about your body. You were not very experienced with the different training types, but after changing you worked through a few different stations. For an hour, you worked out with music blasting in your ears.

While you did a few push-ups at a small mirror, a figure stood next to you. You ignored him or her and just continued your movements. When you were done with your repeats, you slowly got up just to look right at a very familiar naked chest.

Well shit.

Tom stood right next to you and stared at you, just like you. Suddenly, you felt exposed in only tight leggings and a sports bra. Your stomach was churning when he bit his lips and ruffled his hand through his hair, bringing you back to reality. You just turned around and made your way back to the locker rooms. To your luck, he didn’t follow you. You also didn’t turn around to see the broken look on his face.

Great, he was in the same gym than you. And there was no way that you wouldn’t be here at the same time. The sad part was that there were still feelings in your body - it felt like Tom could never be a nobody to you. Your mind was spiralling when you nearly ripped your gym clothes of your body and put your normal things on.

You hurried out of the gym, praying that he wasn’t watching you. On one side, you didn’t want to show him how much he had hurt you but on the other side, he should feel what he had done to you. Because no women deserved this.

When you got back to your empty apartment, all you wanted was to watch Netflix and forget about what just happened, but you had a lot of Uni stuff to catch up on, so that’s where your relaxed afternoon went. You felt so lonely in the big apartment and you just wished for Sky to come back to distract your thoughts from going back to Tom and his bare chest every few seconds.

Your distraction came when Harrison send you a message to ask if you wanted to go out for a few beers tonight, mentioning that Tom wouldn’t be there. And since you needed someone to lift your spirits, you immediately answered a YES.

He picked you up at 8 and the two of you walked to a pub not far from your home. The room was full of students and Haz lead you to a table in the far corner. The table was already occupied by three people - a brown skinned guy with a big grin on his face and two drop-dead gorgeous girls. Haz introduced them as Jacob, Laura and Zendaya. They were all studying theatre just like him and were all really kind.

From the first moment, you felt so welcomed and completely forgot about the boy you always worried about. This was your time - there was no place for Tom in your head anymore. The night went on with a few beers and a lot of laughs. Even though all four were a year older than you, you fit perfectly into their group. For the first time since you arrived at Uni, you felt welcomed and completely content. Nobody could take this moment from you.

You were pretty sure that Harrison told them about your past with Tom because they didn’t bring him up once. With Haz being so close to him, they had to be friends with him too. But them being the nicest people you had ever met, they talked about everything else.

It was getting pretty late but the beer was keeping you light and happy, wanting to stay in this corner of the pub forever. But when Harrison tensed up next to you, you knew that something was wrong. You followed his eyes to the door and choked on your drink when you saw the boy that you had avoided this morning at the gym. Why couldn’t he just leave you alone? This city was big enough for the two of you.

Tom had put on some clothes - a simple black shirt with a necklace and a jean jacket. It seemed so effortless but you still had to admit that he looked really, really good. I thought you wanted to get over him!

But your mind sobered when you saw the girl next to him, her arms around his waist and a dumb grin on her face. She looked a lot younger than Tom and just like Haz had explained, she was a One-Night Stand. One year ago, you would never imagined that Tom would ever pick up girls and leave them the next morning.

It still seemed so unreal to you that he was right here - it was hard not to jump up and just disappear. But just like you did with Harrison, you had to get over it. You wouldn’t talk to him, that was for sure - but you needed to accept that he would be in the same room than you. You were friends with his best mate and you would never tell Harrison to dumb Tom. You were just a friend and nothing more.

While you stared at Tom, Haz watched you intently, trying to figure out what you would do. When he left the shared apartment with Tom tonight, he didn’t tell his best mate where he would go. There were so many pubs in Cambridge, why did he pick this one? All Harrison wanted was a friendship with you and with Tom to just mind his own business. The brown-haired guy had changed a lot over the last year and Harrison didn’t want Tom to ruin this friendship he built up for a long time.

But he was surprised when you just turned back to Zendaya and forced a smile. You just ignored Tom and Harrison felt some kind of pride in his chest. You told him how miserable you had felt for the last year and it seemed like you were getting a lot better even though Tom was in the same room.

But when he looked back at his best mate and saw that grin he had grown used to over the last year, he knew that this night wouldn’t end very good. When the two guys moved to Uni, it felt like Tom did an 180 turn on his personality. The cheery and passionate guy was gone and there was only a lifeless shell left that was rude and had a different girl every night. Haz didn’t know his friend anymore when they were outside - the only time he was normal was when they were done in their apartment.

„Oh no,“ he mumbled when Tom walked towards their table, the girl right by his side. Haz had never seen before and he was sure that this was the only time he would ever see her. Tom didn’t care about their feelings and threw them out of the house before Haz even woke up. Sometimes, he wished that he would never have broken up with you, but it was Toms’ decision, not his. But Haz knew that you had been the best thing that ever happened to Tom. But now it as too late.

Tom and the girl sat down next to Zendaya who just looked at the girl with a furrowed brow before turning back to you. You gulped and just focused on Zendayas’ story, trying to keep your eyes on her. But it was hard with him so close, his curl flopping on his forehead. The girl nearly sat on his lap and felt disgusted - it seemed like this was not the Tom you used to know. This was a completely different person.

Suddenly, Zendaya turned towards Tom with a mean look. „Could you move your flirting somewhere else? We’re trying to have a conversation here.“ Tom laughed but pushed the girl from his lap and turned towards Harrison to talk to him. You felt really uncomfortable in that moment, heat creeping up your spine. The whole situation had turned from a nice get-together to five people trying to ignore the elephant in the room.

The girl was kissing Toms’ neck now and that’s when you snapped. You jumped up and mumbled that you needed to leave. Harrison watched you with a worried look but you ignored him - your mind wa sspinning and all you wanted was Sky or your mum, telling you that you would be alright. And that yo never had to see this asshole again. With a little wave towards Zendaya and Harrison, you let the pub, just like you had left the gym earlier this morning.

You knew that it was not the best move to show Tom that you were angry and wanted an explanation - but the anxiety was too big to let you actually say something and speak up. You were too scared of his smooth voice and that smile you missed so much. Tom watched you all the way towards the door, the emotion running wild in his body.

You were even more beautiful than he remembered you. But when you looked at him with this hurtful look, he knew that he fucked up really bad. He had already known that when he told you that he wanted to end this relationship, but this was it.

Over the last year, there wasn’t one day where he didn’t beat himself up for doing this to you and he didn’t have an explanation for his actions. He only knew that he had lost the most important thing in his life and he regretted it a lot. Deep down, he regretted this night, the way he seemed so emotionless. And deep down, he still loved you. But with him having the image of a ‚fuckboy‘, there was no way he would admit that to you. Or you would never let him talk to you, just to figure out what happened that night.

If Tom had to be honest, he wasn’t so sure himself why he had done it. A big part was one of his friends, jack, who told him that only losers went to Uni with a girlfriend. This was the time for partys and different girls - but Tom had never felt the urge to do all these things because of you. With you, he didn’t need seven shots of vodka - you were the one that got him love-drunk. For the time you’d been together, he never understood why you picked him. You were the most beautiful girl he had ever seen and with you, there was no one else. You were the one for him and it broke his heart when he said those words, to watch your heart break right in front of him.

But when he went to Uni, everything changed. For the first month, he was a complete mess and it took all in him to not call you and ask for a second chance. He felt so lost and lonely without you and there was absolutely nothing that could cheer him up.

But when he started going to parties and drowning his sorrows in alcohol, he stopped caring. He didn’t call home anymore and the only constant in his life was Harrison. And one night, this girl danced with him and one thing lead to another - and after that night, he never stopped. Tom was not healing from what he had done - he was just distracting himself with other things he didn’t even like himself.

He had always hated the guys with different girls every night but now, he was exactly that guy. And he had no idea how he would ever get out of this mess. When he watched you leave, all he wanted was to run after you and beg for your forgiveness or just hear your voice. His heart was beating wildly in his chest for the first time in a very long time and he wondered if he could feel that again if he would just talk to you and apologise. Because even though he seemed like he didn’t care at all. he cared a lot. He just didn’t want to show that.

That night, he slept alone in his bed. His mind was spinning and he couldn’t get your face out of your mind - those wonderful eyes and the little freckles on your skin that he had counted the first time you had kissed. And oh, your lips. Tom shook his head, trying to get the image of you out of your mind.

The whole night, he laid awake, staring at the ceiling, trying to figure out what to do. He knew that this was not the real him and that he was unhappy. But he had made a mistake and he had to live with it - there was no way that you would ever forgive him, he had been completely heartless.

He jumped when his phone vibrated on his nightstand, illuminating the whole room. When he took it in his hand, it took a few seconds to get used to the sudden brightness to read the text. His breath hitched in his throat when he saw the familiar number he would always know.

We need to talk.
