Today’s heathen discovery: a sizeable collection of norse pagan songs, chants and hymns, by a seemingly pretty legit source! I stumbled upon it completely by chance and after digging around a bit, I find the organization seems quite inclusive. I’m super curious to discover these songs, but I also wouldn’t want to support a folkish organization. If any of you have heard of this site before, please tell me if it’s to be trusted or not! For now, I’ll share the link to the song collection! Please give me your impressions!

Why should you consider us?

Our server defines godspousing as intimate relations (romantic or s*xual) with a god, spirit, or other non-corporeal entity, such as angels, demons, etc.

We welcome anyone engaging in practices such as spirit partnership, consortship or dating, or otherwise have an intimate relationship with an entity. This server is not exclusive to partners of gods or deities.

We welcome anyone who identifies as godfamily or spirit family, meaning they identify as family of an entity (such as a sibling, child, or parent). These practices are openly discussed but are not the focus of the server.

We have more than 140 members!

Our community is largely built of queer and neurodivergent folks, with a significant number of chronically ill and/or disabled members.

Our community is 18+ due to the intimate contents, and we do not allow minors to be present on the server under any circumstances.

We are open and accepting of systems and we offer pluralkit as a standard practice.

We do NOT advertise publicly (i.e. disboard) nor do we allow any indefinite or permalinks to the server -- this prevents most issues with trolling or racist attacks etc. seen in other metaphysical servers.

anyway my issue with a lot of other helpols (which just makes me avoid the larger community and do my own thing in my corner) is that a lot of them are recon (which is fine!!!) but i am inherently informal and weird as shit in my practice. i call hades and hestia my spiritual dad/mom, hermes gets donuts as offerings when i’m trying to get to class on time and avoid traffic, i once asked artemis to keep deer from jumping out in front of my car on a road trip home with an offering of granola/sports bars. when people get too formal with the gods and pull out the titles, i usually bail bc it makes me uncomfortable. my relationship with my deities is extremely deep and connected, and it’s not that people who have more formal relationships with them can’t also have those, but it’s that if i called hades “lord hades” with any seriousness, he’d hit me with a rock, basically.

i don’t judge other people for their practices or more formal relationships bc honestly, it’s between you and your gods, but like… my go-to offering is the pomegranate brookside dark chocolates, and yes. sometimes i eat them out of my offering dishes the next day.

If you could take your god/spirit/angelspouse on a dream date, where would you go? I’d like to take Michael to the opera; specifically a comedy or a romance where nobody dies. Tragedies are beautiful, but I always leave feeling sad. Opera is my favorite performance medium; I've been in love with them since my music teacher showed us a VHS of the Magic Flute in 5th grade, and I want to share it with Michael.

I, Eirene [20], had my name recently changed through process of elimination in a divination session. I am a landlocked sea witch who grew up with horses, relying on them for transport and wishing that was still the way today.

My name change is mentioned because I feel like, through lots of guidance, have finally stepped into my role as a priestess / oracle. This took a lot for me, as devotion consumes me but I have only recently felt ready for this huge step in my life.

One day, I should hope to open a temple of my own sacred place.

This is your space, as well as mine! Do not be afraid to submit any form of devotion for Poseidon and honored deities. This may include art, prayers, experiences, offerings, poetry, spells, dreams, godspouse writings and more to present within the temple.

You may also request readings, prayers, digital offerings, etc! I may make an info graphic if people get more curious.

Spouse as a term has developed in the same way that partner has. It can mean that you're married, it can mean that you're exclusively dating each other.

Queer folks were calling each other spouse(s) before gay marriage was remotely legalized.

This is linguistic drift. If you don't like using spouse as a catch all term, then don't! There's plenty of other options.

But the community I'm a part of, with more than a 100 people, uses it as a catch all term.

It's your choice as an independent person whether or not you want to do the same. I'm just some random on the internet. I can't and don't even care to make you conform to my community's standards.

But, yes. My best friend is my spouse. I married him. He was my spouse before we were married.

Deity worship vs deity work

As you peruse witchy and pagan spaces online you’ll often hear the term “deity work” and “deity worship” being used interchangeably, but this is sort of not the case. While both include a reciprocal relationship with a deity, the differences are kind of more subtle.

Deity worship is the act of building a relationship with a divine being based on reverence, love and/or admiration for them and doing acts to show these feelings. This might include giving offerings, praying, and doing devotional acts or art for them. There you’ll find your devotees, your godspouses and your casual worshippers.

Deity work on the other hand, is more committed and transactional than deity worship. You can hear this term more in witchcraft spaces than purely pagan ones. *In deity work, a deity will be more hands-on with and involved in your actions, and oftentimes will give rules for what is and isn’t acceptable to do while working with them. Here offerings are given not just as tokens of gratitude, but more as payment for services given. Contrary to deity worship which is for an indeterminate period and for no other purpose than loving/respecting a deity, deity work often comes with a set goal in mind or for a certain time frame*.There you’ll hear more terms like “patron” to describe one’s relationship with a deity. Keep in mind though, that oftentimes deity work comes with some form of worship, as there is some overlap between the two.

However, the definition and differences I gave are not absolute. In Ancient Greece and Rome for example, worship was way more transactional and was more of a matter of necessity, authority and obligation than personal devotion and admiration for a deity. In Ancient Israel, Adonai gave the Jews rules for how they would live and worship him. Technical terms like “deity work” and “deity worship” are fairly recent so if you want to follow a more ancient form of tradition then they may not really fit for you.

*I could be wrong about the nature of deity work but since that’s not what I do I can’t speak too confidently on it so if I made a mistake I invite anyone who works with a deity to correct me.

Why do some of yall HATE godspousing & pop culture magic/paganism. Why do you take your time to put down other peoples practices out of nowhere. Like you’re spending your time hating on a practice when NOBODY cares.

Also stop throwing around “spiritual psychosis” just because someone is practicing differently than you. It’s not a good look for you AND your are damaging our communities look to outside perspectives.

Get a diary or get over yourself because I don’t see why you feel the need to go out of your way to put others down. It doesn’t make you a better witch or pagan. It just makes you annoying.

This is not about people who are discussing their personal traumas within those communities. This is not discussing the people who don’t believe in those things and keep it to themselves. I’m talking about the folks who go out of their way to HATE just because they don’t agree. I am pretttyyyy far from ✨love and light✨, but you don’t need to be an ass just because you can.
