gentle touch of morning
( a small scarian epic au piece <3 reblogs do more than likes! )
It’s funny.
Over the twelve long years Scar spent fighting, leading his men into battle, the thought that kept him going was his eventual homecoming. Every waking thought was of his husband and son, and Scar’s reason for living, for breathing, was his family. As he sailed rocky waters, faced monsters and gods alike, lost men after men, Scar wished for nothing more than to be home, to awake with his husband sleeping beside him.
But as he stands in his home, the one he most intimately knows, Scar feels
wrong. Out of place. He’d woken up early, savoring the sight of Grian’s sleeping face (he could never get tired of it), and felt so restless that staying in bed for any longer seemed impossible. So Scar took to walking around his home.
He and Grian built this place up, together. The memories are some that Scar looks back on fondly. He could never forget it, no matter how much time he spent away from it. Scar only fears that it has forgotten him.
Scar takes easy steps, walking and reacquainting himself. He notes the pictures, most of them being of his son. He hardly sees Grian in any of them, perhaps one or two, less than a handful. And the ones that Grian is in, his smile doesn’t light up his face. It makes Scar frown.
He wanders for a bit, traversing each winding hallway with careful movements. It’s as if he fears the house may collapse at any moment, or some attacker may jump from the shadows, perhaps a god will catch him off guard and finish him off. Not even in his home does he feel the full safety he’s supposed to. These walls feel foreign, unfamiliar. Even if he can picture everything clearly in his mind, knows this place like the back of his hand. Scar still feels like a stranger.
Eventually, he finds himself in the kitchen. He pauses in the doorway, catching sight of another person.
His son.
His little Pitta.
Well, not as little anymore, as a young boy at fourteen. But to Scar it still feels like he’s just an infant that he could cradle in his arms. Another thing time robbed him of. So many missed moments, opportunities, to watch his son grow. And while Scar knows that there are still many years to come, to see, a piece of him mourns the time he lost.
For a moment, Scar keeps quiet. He watches his son, taking in his dark brown hair and hazel colored eyes. He’s the striking image of both Scar and Grian somehow, even if they aren’t related to him. But Scar loves him all the same; would move mountains to give him whatever he needed. He can’t help but wonder what kind of person his son is, what he likes and dislikes. Does he resent Scar for leaving? Does he consider Scar his father, or a stranger who left a loving husband alone for years on end? He doesn’t want to find out. Not now.
Scar stands there until he can’t anymore, finding hazel eyes landing on him. He watches the way in which Pitta’s eyes light up, turning all shiny and bright when he notices his father. He turns away from the counter, abandoning the slices of bread he had taken out. He smiles, and gods, does his smile look like Grian’s. “Papa!” Pitta greets, the timbre of his voice cheerful and soft.
“Hey, Pitta,” Scar returns, heart melting each time he’s reminded that he’s finally returned home. He never thought it would happen, that maybe it’d take him longer, or maybe something would strike him down on the way back. But against all odds, fourteen years, and Scar is home. His son stands in front of him.
“Whatïżœïżœïżœre you doing awake? Is dad up too?” Pitta questions, raising a brow at him.
“Uh
” Scar blanks, unsure of what to say. It’s not like he’s going to tell the truth, Pitta shouldn’t have to worry about him. Scar has already caused him enough pain, there’s no need to cause more now that he’s actually here. “Gria— your dad’s still asleep,” he stammers. The words feel awkward on his tongue, like they shouldn’t be there. This life of domesticity
he doesn’t know how to go about it. It isn’t just some enemy he can cut down.
The very thought makes him nauseous.
“Oh!” Pitta blinks at the response. “Well, that’s
good.” He nods to himself awkwardly, and Scar hides a grimace.
He
really doesn’t know how to interact with his son.
There’s this dark curdling of doubt in his mind that begins to creep up, settling over him. He’s afraid. Worried that this is one thing he’ll never overcome. It’s a familiar feeling, an old friend, a once enemy turned begrudging shadow. It’s a feeling he experienced in battle, traversing home, taking his castle back from scoundrels that dare to stain it. But there is a new fear that joins it, overwhelming like a tidal wave.
Does he even know how to be a father?
Scar feels his breath sharpen just a tad, skipping a beat and hastening. He can feel hands curling around his throat, beginning to press into his skin. He feels it tightening on him, the grip firm. The pressure starts off as something light, until the fingers of Fear dig deeper with each shakingly quiet breath. It gets stronger and stronger, straining his lungs until he can feel his throat being squeezed, choked.
“Papa?” Pitta’s voice breaks him from the spiraling thoughts, from the overwhelming fear sneaking in.
The hands around his neck relax, and the terror recedes, sinking back into the depths of his mind momentarily. He allows himself a moment to breathe, a chance to suck in a soft breath and recenter. His vision clears, and he becomes aware of the way his heartbeat pounds in his ears, loud like a drum.
He manages a smile, “I’m uh, gonna go check and see if our Sleeping Beauty is awake.” Keeping his eyes trained on his son, Scar tries to maintain his light smile. He takes a few small steps back, slipping into a casual mask. He’s gotten quite good at it over the years of putting on a brave face. “Be right back.”
Pitta watches him, brows creasing in concern as he goes. “Oh
okay,” he answers, sounding resigned as Scar retreats.
Scar turns around, and brings himself back to the beautiful olive tree where his Grian is fast asleep. The sun shines down on him, cutting through the green leaves. The light spills into their bed, painting a halo in the soft yet sandy blond locks of Grian’s hair. He rests in their bed, eyes shut and face relaxed. His body is curled somewhat, the blanket tucked just over his shoulders.
Staring at him, taking in the near angelic sight, Scar takes a few breaths to calm himself. He walks over to their bed, sitting down on the edge, right beside Grian. He contents himself with just sitting there, watching the rise and fall of Grian’s chest. It feels a little easier to breathe, with the love of his life right here, peaceful. Scar can almost allow himself to pretend he lives in a world where he never went to war, where he never had to leave his family behind. He can almost allow himself to pretend he was the husband and father he should have been.
Chest aching and overflowing with doubt and regret, Scar reaches out. Tenderly, Scar brushes some of Grian’s hair away from his face. He ever so softly tangles his fingers in the silky strands as he rhythmically cards through his hair. Scar’s expression softens, chest swelling with love for the man before him. He drags the pads of his fingertips along Grian’s head, feeling the soft locks under his touch.
He can’t imagine what it was like, doing so much alone for so long. Scar has always believed Grian to be strong, the strongest person he knows. But this? Scar doesn’t think anyone could compare, not even the gods.
Not in the way it matters, at least.
His thumb idly strokes Grian’s cheekbone, loving and sweet. “I’d be lost without you, my light,” he murmurs. Because it’s true. Scar would’ve given up a long, long time ago if he didn’t have Grian and Pitta to come home to. Grian is his rock, his eye of the storm, his compass. Scar is caught within Grian’s orbit, forever wrapped up in him. There’s nothing he wouldn’t do for this man. Grian kept their home in one piece. He raised their son. He handled whatever it was that Scar couldn’t in his time away. Grian held out hope for fourteen years that Scar would come back to him.
Scar owes him everything and more. But most importantly, Scar owes him his love. And by the gods will he offer every last ounce of it, every drop. Scar is a man. No general, and certainly no hero. He is just a man who wants to pour his heart and soul out for his spouse. Scar is just a man in love.
Beneath his touch, Grian’s face twitches, and he begins to stir. “Mmm
Scar?” he mumbles, still groggy and waking up.
“Good morning, my love.” Scar smiles at him, brushing away a particular curl of hair before stroking his cheek. “Sleep well?”
“‘ink so, yes. It was warm with you,” Grian answers, leaning into the hand on his cheek. “What’re you awake for?”
Scar pauses, if only briefly. “Uh, well, y’know. Just admiring my pretty husband while I have the chance,” he answers, which isn’t entirely a lie.
Grian looks at him with clear suspicion, but doesn’t push. Instead, he sighs quietly as pushes himself to sit up. “You can do that when I’m awake too,” he teases, leaning to press their lips together. Scar is more than happy to sink into it, using the hand on Grian’s cheek to angle his head slightly, deepening it. The kiss is sweet, loving. It’s slow and patient, carrying the patience of fourteen years within it.
When they pull away, Scar rests their foreheads together. “I guess I can, yeah,” he agrees softly. “Mind if I take a few more minutes to admire him?”
Grian smiles, kissing the corner of his mouth in return. “I suppose.”  Scar simply smiles, and gods is he happy to be home. No amount of fear could ever leave him unhappy to be back with the loves of his life. Never.

Yo! I have a doozy of a request >:)
Okay mha, aizawa, with an adult son/daughter (idk the gender neutral term. Child?? I think it's child?) Who is a hero overseas and one day DIES.
Aizawa hears it some how, goes into grieving, and then...
Reader just shows up... in his house... raiding his fridge (but make it funny)
It turns out reader had to fake their death to go undercover to kick some villans butt and they needed to lay low for a while so they came back home.
Comfort angst-turned Crack!
got it! i loved this concept, it's so amazing <3 <3 <3
i don't think i went crazy enough with the comedy because for some reason i felt like a more wholesome route would work better
Tumblr media
safe and sound
aizawa x child!reader ; wc. 0.9k
cw: cursing, reader is presumed dead, it's a lil graphic, not proofread
Tumblr media
There were times when Aizawa Shota regretted becoming a father. This was one of them. He knew that his profession put his child in danger of losing a parent at any moment, but he promised himself every day that he would return home safely for their sake. It was what kept him going. But what he had never expected was that he would be the one to lose someone so dear to his heart in a hero mission.
Aizawa was in the middle of a nap when Kaminari shouted the news. “OH MY GOD, THE X-TEAM VANISHED!”
Aizawa knew that team all too well: it was your team.
“Give me that,” He muttered, taking Kaminari’s phone from his hand and skimming through the article.
X-Team
 heroes sent abroad
 villain ambush
 notorious killers
 location unknown
 heroes vanished
presumed dead. He reread those last few words. “All heroes presumed dead.” It couldn’t be - it just couldn’t. You had to be alive
 you had to.
In that moment, as he sobbed on the floor of his classroom, Aizawa Shota wished he had never encouraged you to be a hero, never let you join the agency known for taking on the most brutal internatonal missions, never taken in a child with such immense potential only for that potential to be cut short in such a terrible accident.
Weeks of searching were to no avail. Try as they might, international heroes could find nothing regarding the X-Team’s location, not a piece of clothing, or a message, or a villain that might spill. Until they found the bodies. Three of them, young adults, disfigured beyond identifiability. But one of them lined up with you - same height, build, gender, age
and clearly the victim of the villains you were chasing. For all Aizawa knew, it was you.
Aizawa Shota is a tired man. He always has been. But weeks of sleepless nights, long days of worrying, and the nightmares
it took a toll on him. He was barely functioning as a teacher and as a hero. Only pure exhaustion would make him sleep, and what little rest he got would never last. So it was no surprise when he, having not slept in days, hallucinated a person in his house.
Illuminated only by the light of the fridge (which, he noticed, had been largely emptied of its contents), the imaginary person turned to him and waved, mouth full of food.
“‘Ello!” They said, grinning. Aizawa knew that voice. That was your voice.
“Oh god
I’m losing it,” He muttered to himself, “I’m fucking hallucinating.”
“But you’re not though? Waittt are there two of me? Or a shadow demon in the corner? HI SHADOW DEMON!!”
Perhaps it really was you - his child, the little creature he raised from nothing, his reason for living and the most amazing person in his life.
“Ah, shit, you probably think I’m dead, don’t you? Long story short it was a whole scheme, our cover got blown so we had to hide for a while, the villains wanted to make it look like they killed us, we got in undercover with some reinforcements and they took forever to get to us, then all of a sudden we get out of our hidey hole and everyone thinks we’re dead? I dunno, it was pretty wild though. Sorry for spookin’ you
but we got the job done so it’s fine, right?”
Your father collapsed into your arms. Your very solid, very real, very alive arms. For weeks it had seemed hopeless, like he’d truly lost you. But all that time
all that time you were working diligently, making the best of your situation, the dedicated child he loved so much. Home at last, safe.
“Dad? Daaaaad. There’s really no need to cry, I’m fine! Yeah it was messy, but hey, it all turned out fine! It always does, doesn’t it?” Though you complained, you missed your father. Two months away from home, one of which was spent cut off from most of the world, took a toll on you too.
“Kiddo
you can’t just scare me like that,” Whatever strength he had left was put entirely into the rib-cracking embrace he gave you, tears soaking into your shirt, “I thought you were dead. I thought I lost you.”
“Hey dad, do you remember what you told me when I was little?” He nodded. “How I wasn’t allowed to worry about you when you went on missions because you’d always find a way back to me? Well, now that I’ve gone pro, I think it’s time that bargain went both ways. Because our silly little family - Auntie Kamaya, Uncle Yamada, those other kids you adopted from UA, you, and me - we’ll stick together.”
Aizawa let go of you, placing his hands firmly on your shoulders and looking into your eyes, “Yeah
I’ll try not to worry. Now I’m going to sleep
and you’d better have the fridge reorganized by the time I wake up.”
“Reorganized, restocked, and breakfast on the table. For all the stress I caused you,” You promised as he trudged to his room. Now, there was only one issue between you and seet, sweet sleep - how the hell were you going to get groceries to make breakfast if the whole country thought you were dead???

——— VERSES
main / pkmn — if you think you don't know him, you've probably seen him somewhere without realising it. he's your champion! he's your chosen one. he's your saint and saviour. or is he really the reason the world around you is shivering apart, little bit by little bit? he couldn't tell you as a child, and he still couldn't tell you now. this beleaguered old legend still ambles from lead to lead on his path to some kind of ultimate understanding, some kind of zenith to his messianic condition. he doesn't know what he's for, but that's okay, he knows you don't know what you're for either. the learning curve never ends. this ash can be encountered almost anywhere in the pokĂ©mon world, known to regularly drift from region to region, gig to gig, battle to battle, apocalypse to apocalypse. surely, one day, this curse will lift ... won't it?
supernatural — ash is a drifting, wayward hunter from the south-west, son of a hunter and a restaurant owner. his father passed when he was young, and during the same incident, ash became the willing vessel of the god quetzalcoatl, granting him vast power and a unique kinship with the natural world. he seeks vengeance for his father, but has become cognizant of the primordial gods' schemes and also seeks to confront and punish them.
the boys — think pokĂ©mon if they were just v'd up animals - that's it. ash grew up in a suburbian town in japan, near the site of a vought international r&d lab headed by his best friend's grandfather, and found out a little more than he should have as a young child. during an intrepid peek into oak's research lab, ash not only received a hefty dose of compound v, but managed to free one of the animals the lab had been experimenting on; a large, semi-sentient mouse with the power to conduct and discharge electricity. this event forced ash's mother (also being targeted by the yakuza for business protection) to take him away on the run. he and his mother have been weaving in and out of encroaching threats from vought and other bodies of organised crime ever since. ash seeks vengeance upon vought, both for his accidental exposure to v, and for the disappearance of his father (who may have been an unfortunate test subject in the 90s). ash has gained powers from v that seem to amplify with time and training. the simplest way to explain him would be if goku swapped out the disciplined martial arts training for slugging whiskey and throwing caution to the wind.
star trek — half-human, half-klingon, all golden retriever energy. this gung-ho starfleet prospect has never passed an exam, but exceeds in idealism, imagination, and practical xenozoology. all he's ever wanted is to see the stars and to see all of the fantastical creatures roaming out there in space ... sadly, his exam results never quite etched that fate into the stars for him. working the bars of various low-tier starships will have to do.
modern / fandomless — maybe you saw him on your tv in the early 2000s, one of the many pro wrestlers that lit the world on fire during the height of the craze. it's a pity that impassable injury cut his tenure in the ring all too short. this retired fighting performer has relegated himself to a steady but uneventful life helping his beloved mother run her snack bar, wishing that he'd taken up a career in animal care.
cowboy / western — nobody can really give you an exact date of when ash rolled into town, or when his local ranch practically bloomed out of the arid ground, but it seems like he's been there since anyone can remember. he's never done any harm, he's a kind and hardy man, known mainly to mind his business and ranch his prized cattle. rumour has it though, his ranch house is simply teeming with animal life; from his herding dogs, to his ratting cats, to his hunting birds. some say there are creatures in that home that man has never seen before, but hey, that's just a local rumour spun by bored tavern-wives... right?

Winx Club Headcanon: War(s) of Solaria
In my headcanon, Solaria isn’t like it was shown in the original series. It was a war-torn kingdom with a history of vertical and horizontal conflicts between the Solarians and Lunarians. Though, in the present day, the kingdom has recovered significantly, in terms of socioeconomic and politics, the past friction and hatred between Solarians and Lunarians are still present and both people now live in separate places (Solarians in Solaria and Lunarians in Lumenos). The war(s) is what caused Stella’s parents to divorce (because I don’t think the original series explains why they separated). This writing will dive into Cassandra’s conspiracies that caused the long conflict and its effect(s) on the kingdom. Also, I will be referring to some ancient Greek/Roman/Babylonian history in terms of the culture, society, and politics of Solaria.
************************************************************************
In the year 668 of the Solarian calendar (The Solarian Calendar draws inspiration from the lunisolar calendar of Ancient Macedonia), Prince Radius of Solaria married Princess Luna of Lumenos, and both became the new King and Queen of Solaria and the first rulers to unite the two people in the planet, the Solarians and Lunarians. Both earned the title “Sun God Shamash” and “Moon Goddess Yarikh” by both people.
In the year 670, two years after their marriage, their first and only daughter was born. They named her Stella—blessed with the title “Ishtar” (meaning Evening Star). She grew up to be a talented, genius young princess and has a natural affinity for magic. Young Princess Stella would soon create her derivation of light magic, drawing sources from both of her parents’ inherited magic (sun and moon magic), Star Magic was born. Princess Stella quickly became the strongest candidate for the Solarian throne due to her brilliance.
This news was a sign of fortune for the Kingdom of Solaria, but for others, it was a threat. Enters Countess Cassandra, a member of the Royal Court of Solaria and Duchess of Sh’va (pronounced “shee-ba”)—one of the regions in Solaria, she was one of the most respected members of the high council and the most influential. This news upset the countess, she had an ambition to take over the kingdom and made herself queen. But King Radius’ success in uniting the Solarians and Lunarians through inter-cultural marriage and the positive perceptions of the royal council and the public regarding Stella, only minimizes the chances of her coup d’etat plan (to be honest I based Cassandra off of Agrippina The Younger, and her conspiracy to dethrone and assassinate Emperor Claudius and made Nero—her son—emperor of Rome. Just like Cassandra who desires her daughter, Chimera, to be the Princess of Solaria)
So, in the year 682, Cassandra’s conspiracy starts its first move. By abusing her power at the Royal Court, Cassandra launches several “campaigns” in the grassroots community of Solaria and uses the “divide and conquer” tactics because what’s a better way to destroy a multicultural society than to divide them and put them onto each others’ throats? Cassandra sent several mercenaries to attack the Solarian community near Sh’va. These mercenaries wear Lunarians’ traditional clothing and a cloak with Lumenos symbols on it. The injured civilians believed that the Lunarians had attacked them, sparking rages all over the region, and within days, Sh’va became a war zone between the Solarians and Lunarians who lived there. Cassandra took this advantage to send spies into the other regions, these spies acted as provocateurs and also informants to Cassandra. Within a couple of months, chaos spread all over Solaria, civil unrest was inevitable and the streets turned into a pool of blood. The Royal Court informed Radius and Luna about this and demanded them to take immediate action.
The Royal Court, comprised of both Solarian and Lunarian descents started to blame each other for the war. However, the Solarians believed that the Lunarians were the ones who started the conflict by pointing weapons at them first. This argumentation and conflicts occurred both horizontally (between civilians) and vertically (between the members of the Royal Court), prompting the King and Queen to act.
The situation worsened when the Solarian High Council pushed King Radius to launch an attack at a possible Lunarian rebels' hideout, located in a region called Enzu. Radius complied believing that it was their hideout ended up killing roughly one hundred Lunarian civilians. His action enraged Luna. Radius commands the army without discussing it with his wife first or even confirming that there were no civilians in that region, this results in a heated argument between the two. Luna, feeling betrayed and disappointed with the Solarians and Radius, decided to side with her people.
The war continues, and although both King and Queen have stepped in to try to ease the situation, the culmination of all the events happens one night, when an angry Solarian mob storms the Temple of Yarikh and destroys it along with all of its contents including the artifacts, some sacred tablets and the statue of the goddess. Of course, this enraged the Lunarians because the Temple of Yarikh is the sacred place built for Luna, and the Solarians soiled the sacred temple. The Lunarians decided to launch an attack on the Solarians but Luna warned them not to act recklessly because they were easily outnumbered. Instead, Luna suggested that both sides sign a treaty of peace because they are already too many casualties from both sides.
The treaty happened in the year 685. The treaty of peace contained an agreement that both sides must follow: “...the planet of Solaria belongs to the Solarian people and therefore planet Lumenos belongs to the Lunarian people.” Both sides parted ways, and soon after Radius and Luna signed the treaty, they were divorced. There is no point in retaining their marriage after all of this bloodbath. The year 685, marked the end of the lunisolar calendar that was used in Solaria and Lumenos for centuries, both changed their calendars, marking the end of the Year of The Sun and Moon and in Solaria it became year 1 of the new Solarian calendar—also called as the Year of The New Sun while in Lumenos it was called the Year of The New Moon.
Hence, the first step of Cassandra’s conspiracy is complete. She had succeeded in removing Luna from the Royal Family.
After they divorced, Radius was busy rebuilding and revitalizing Solaria. Radius turned into a workaholic and even though he loves his daughter, he has too little time to be with her. Stella, the genius princess, grows up to be a teenager with abandonment issues, she often seeks validation from other people and gets in trouble just to gain her father’s attention. Her relationship with her mother was not better either, Stella has a complicated relationship with her mother, she doesn’t hate her because she “abandons” her family but Stella always feels that there is a gap between her and her mother. To the point that she became scared when she had to face her mother, not because she viewed her as a traitor to her family but because of the past that she kept seeing in her, a time when all of them were still together.
After a few years, Cassandra decided it was time to move on to her second plan—assassinating Stella and dethroning Radius. But there’s a problem, Stella goes to Alfea to study how to become a fairy and it becomes impossible for Cassandra to assassinate her. So, she sticks with her plan to dethrone Radius first, of course, she needs to be more careful this time because Radius is much more cautious.
Luckily for Solaria, it took Cassandra some time to strategize and the evil woman was too comfortable basking in her victory. We’ll see what she has up her sleeves.

Pusher post for Ja Myung Go (2009) - best period kdrama you've never heard of
Tumblr media
It got zero votes on my poll probably because nobody has watched it, and it must be remedied.
In 2009, during the ratings reign of legendary Queen Seon Deok, another woman-centric period drama made its debut - Ja Myung Go starring Jung Ryo Won, Jung Kyung Ho, and Park Min Young back before she was a leading lady. Unlike QSD which became a huge success and extended its run, JMG had abysmal ratings throughout and ended up being only 39 episodes (a large number in abstract but a cut from the originally planned 50). Ja Myung Go took a traditional narrative - the forbidden and doomed love of Prince Hodong and Princess La Hee, heirs to enemy kingdoms, and disassembled it supposing what the story would have been like if Hodong had been in love with La Hee's sister Ja Myung instead.
Tumblr media
Even though JMG is one of my favorites, its single-digit ratings (back when single digit ratings were baaaaad!) were no surprise - it took most period drama conventions of the time and even now and upended them. Proper royalty-based sageuks at the time after all centered around the progress and triumph of its protagonist - he or she may pay a great personal price but will triumph over rival factions/own shortcomings/bad background and emerge politically victorious - a great ruler to be remembered by future generations. JMG's rival Queen Seon Deok expemplifies that kind of narrative - Deokman is an outcast who, at the end, has lost the man she loved, but is a great ruler to be remembered forever and full of achievements. Yi San, Kingdom of the Winds, Jumong, etc - all follow this formula more or less. This is still the case when they make them nowadays, sadly rarer than they used to - GK War comes to mind. (Fusion-style sageuks which usually deal with 'common' people sometimes choose hopelessness as a theme - see Damo - but they have a different narrative thrust and vibe and we are not even getting into fluffiness of youth sageuks. People of JMG are miles away from that.)
Tumblr media
But this is not the story of JMG. From the first episode it is clear that there will be no triumphant narrative. This is a story of the defeated - defeated Kingdom of Nakrang, defeated people. And, except for Ja Myung herself (cast in a traditionally heroic mold even if with enough flaws to make her interesting), her mother (a very minor character) and a few other other characters, most of the characters are not heroic either. They are either fascinating monsters (Muhyul, Wang Jashi (Ja Myung's stepmother), Muhyul's Queen) or people damaged beyond repair by their surroundings (Hodong, La Hee).
Tumblr media
(Man is known as God of Battles, and not for no reason)
And even though I like Ja Myung, I confess that for me the drama is made by the clever, fascinating, monstrous Wang Jashi and Muhyul. Wang Jashi is a Korean Lady Macbeth - she is someone who is capable of poisoning her brother in order to protect her husband and her own power, but she is also someone who genuinely grieves over him. She is a wicked woman, but she is strong and irresistable. Muhyul (or King Daemushin, if we go by his throne name) is a counterpart for her (he rules a different kingdom, but I confess throughout the drama, I kept wondering what it would be like if they were married - they would rule the world). He is a capable, fierce ruler who has traded his humanity for success and rule - you see any remaining feelings leach out of him slowly during the course of the drama.
Tumblr media
And so much of the drama is shaped by those two irresistible monsters - all the younger characters except Ja Myung are trapped and shaped and deformed by them. Princess La Hee, Wang Jashi's daughter, is not capable of truly functionally expressing her feelings - even though she likes Hodong, throughout their early meetings, she lashes at him over and over because brought up the way she was, she has no idea how express herself. And Hodong, Muhyul's son, is even worse off - at least La Hee had her saintly stepmother to love her growing up. Hodong has had his poisonous stepmother who desires his death (yet another amazing character - she is a horrible person but you understand and even sympathize with her) and Muhyul as a father (there is a scene later on where Muhyul gives an order that if Nakrang does not fall, Hodong is to be executed. Father of the year he is not).
Tumblr media
In a way, that is why if it wasn't for his seduction-to-victory plan, Hodong would have never gotten together with La Hee even if Ja Myung did not exist - they are both emotional cripples and Hodong, at least, is smart enough to recognize that. I think that is a huge part of his attraction to Ja Myung - she is a breath of sane air (significantly she has been brought up outside palace environment). When I think of Hodong, it's the same emotion I get when I think of Jang Jae Min from Bali - he is twisted and deeply flawed but the wonder and the tragedy of it is that for his family he is not flawed and twisted enough. One of the last things Ja Myung tells him is that in their next life she wishes she would be his mother. I remember people thinking WTF but it made perfect sense to me - the thing Hodong lacked most and needed most was a loving parent - it is something he never got. (And of course it's also a show of love towards her sister - this way La Hee can have Hodong as a lover).
Tumblr media
And this brings me to gender dynamics. Except for Muhyul, all the true movers and shakers in the story, every catalyst is a woman. Nowhere it is as evident as with Ja Myung and Hodong. I remember reading that Jung Kyung Ho was cast as Hodong and being genuinely puzzled. He has since gone on to be one of my favorite leading men and certainly terrifying and violent and feral enough in Cruel City to play the scariest warlord of them all if necessary but that wasn't the case at the time. I thought of him as the spoiled little brother to the angsty vengeance seeker of Sorry I Love You, or as a smart little brother to the amnesiac mob assassin in Time Between Dog and Wolf. Or, more likely, in his big break-out role as the male lead of Smile You. The thing is, in all of these, even Smile You, he is the quintessential nice guy (or as the term is in certain circles, "beta male.") He was about the last person I'd normally envision as a male lead in a period drama about war. But once I saw the drama, it all made sense and not because he was bringing his later Cruel City persona.
Because despite his undoubted ability to fight in battle, Ja Myung and Hodong are all about gender reversal - at one point she even becomes his bodyguard! If you think about it, they take gender roles usually reserved for the opposite gender - she is the proactive one, who sets the story in motion, the rebel leader. He is the one who conquered Nakrang through seduction of La Hee, something seen as a typically female method. His seducing La Hee into destroying the protective drum is a far cry from Jumong fighting through hordes single-handed or Dam Duk in The Legend taking on an army with a small unit armed with nothing but grit or even the Prince in Haechi or King in GK War outwitting his court enemies with balls and brains. And, as a typically female method, his way of victory gets him nothing but scorn - in the first episode, his stepmother calls him a whore to his face. It's the same with the relationship - Ja Myung can let go of him, but he cannot let go of her.
The women are uniformly fascinating and complex in this - even someone like La Hee does not just give in to Hodong's false sweet words - she genuinely believes surrender would save her country. The drama's respect for its female characters is summed up in a single scene - one of the characters is a widow of Wang Jashi's brother (the one she poisoned). Her 10-year-old brother-in-law marries her to save her from execution. 10 years later, they are still married and when she is doing the proper thing and helping him bathe, you see her experience and suppress her desire - because her husband is now a gorgeous gorgeous man. It could be a ludicrous situation - she changed the guy's diapers and she is not what you'd consider traditionally good-looking. But instead drama treats her feeling with respect and understanding. I loved it for that.
Oh, and I am just gonna leave this little father-son convo here:
Hodong: Your Majesty, what did you tell me before? You said if only you gain Nakrang without any blood being spilt, you would bestow leniency on them. Take pity on them. The other way there will be no end to rebellion and we will all die. Daemushin: Your own grandfather, King Yuri, killed his own two sons. I was young and I could not understand that. How could he? How can a father kill his own child. Unless he was crazy, how could he kill his sons? I finally understand him today. For a King, a son with other intentions is nothing but a political enemy. A political enemy that must be killed and gotten rid of. Hodong: Do you wish to kill me? Daemushin: [throws down a puppet of a woman] You must know who this wench is. Who is she? Hodong: It is Emperor Choi Ri's unknown daughter, Princess Ja Myung. Daemushin: Find her and kill her. Hodong: Father, I cannot do that! I...I...that woman... Daemushin: When you chop off the head of that woman Jae Myung, I will make you the Crown Prince. If your father is King Daemushin, who has expanded his kingdom, then you must survive and show all other nations how to rule that kingdom. Hodong: Your subject Hodong accepts Your Highness' command.
Parent of the Year indeed!
PS If you've watched enough sageuks, you will recognize that wily old monster Daemushin is actually the protag of The Kingdom of the Winds where he looked like this:
Tumblr media
(I did a pusher post for TKotW before so won't repeat.) The funny thing is much as I adored the ML of TKotW, I can totally see him progress into that monster here. It would be logical.
Anyway, digression over, go watch JMG!

Where Have You Seen Loki Season 2's X-5 Actor Before?
This post contains spoilers for the season premiere of "Loki."
"Loki" is back this week, and along with the return of Norse trickster god Loki (Tom Hiddleston), agent Mobius (Owen Wilson), and the rest of the Time Variance Authority, the show's premiere also sees the introduction of a few new key characters. Among them? Ke Huy Quan's helpful, tech-savvy Ouroboros (or O.B.) and X-5, a mysterious new TVA agent played by Rafael Casal. And it's the latter who is particularly intriguing.
So far, we haven't seen X-5 do much besides question whether jet skis are part of the sacred timeline, but the character already seems to be an agitating force within the organization. He's also quite possibly poised to become a recognizable Marvel villain. After all, a featurette for the second season had a couple bits of footage from behind the scenes that showed him in a TVA jumpsuit, as if he was being held prisoner. So that should be interesting to watch play out. But there's more.
As /Film's Sandy Schaefer pointed out back in July, the trailer for "Loki" includes a poster for a movie called "Zaniac!" which fans have tied to Casal's character via leaks and speculation. Zaniac is a noteworthy character in Marvel Comics, though he bears little resemblance to X-5. The character was an evil entity that possessed the man who would become Jack the Ripper, and later took over slasher actor Brad Wolfe.
Ahead of the show's premiere, Casal has been credited by several outlets as Brad Wolfe, not X-5, so it seems likely that he could play out some form of the Zaniac plot this season. Regardless of Casal's true role in the show, though, he's an excellent multi-hyphenate artist whose past works deserve attention.
If X-5 looks familiar, it's likely you recognize Casal from "Blindspotting," a fantastic 2018 musical comedy-drama that he co-wrote with longtime creative partner Daveed Diggs (yes, of "Hamilton" fame). "Blindspotting" was a labor of love for Casal and Diggs, who also produced the film about two best friends living in Oakland, California whose lives are disrupted by the broken policing system. As serious as that sounds, "Blindspotting" is also laugh-out-loud funny, and Casal is a totally charming standout as hot-headed Miles.
The performer reprised the role for Starz's "Blindspotting" TV show, which ran for two seasons and was recently canceled. A criminally underseen hidden gem of a series, "Blindspotting" takes place after the film and puts the focus on Miles' girlfriend, Ashley Rose (Jasmine Cephas Jones), as she parents the pair's young mixed-race son in a racist world, all while Miles is behind bars. Despite his character's incarceration, Casal still appears in the show frequently and his hilarious, soulful character is a fan favorite. If you're looking for a thoughtful, entertaining, dynamic watch – or just want to see what Casal's made of – you can't do much better than either iteration of "Blindspotting."
The performer has also made a name for himself in other projects, including several collaborations with Diggs. A poet and rapper in addition to his acting creds, Casal appeared on three seasons of "Def Poetry Jam" on HBO, released a mixtape with Diggs in 2010, and contributed to the soundtracks for "Blindspotting," including in the catchy (and foulmouthed, fair warning) song "Easy Come, Easy Go." He reunited with Diggs in the acclaimed 2020 miniseries "The Good Lord Bird," a wild historical fiction series led by a fiery Ethan Hawke. Casal and Diggs even started a public theater project called Bars Medley, which remixed classic literature into musical performances.
Other on-screen works of Casal's include a supporting role in the 2019 Hugh Jackman flick "Bad Education" (he played the love interest of Jackman's closeted character) and a multi-episode turn in the "Are You Afraid of the Dark?" revival. Casal played a ringmaster named Mr. Tophat in the reboot of the classic, kid-friendly horror series. Next up, Casal is appearing in "Wildcat," a biography of Southern Gothic author Flannery O'Connor that's directed and co-written by Hawke. The X-5 actor plays a character in one of O'Connor's short stories in the movie, which premiered at Telluride but hasn't been released to the public yet.
Whether X-5 is a frustrated TVA employee, a secret evil entity, a movie actor, or something else entirely, it's exciting to see an artist as talented and versatile as Casal take the stage in a major Marvel series. You can catch his next moves on Disney+, where new episodes of "Loki" stream Thursdays at 9pm ET.

Finding an actor to play the younger version of Leroy Jethro Gibbs was the supreme "NCIS: Origins" challenge.
Mark Harmon embodied the character for 18 seasons of the original "NCIS," America's most-watched series for much of its 21-season run.
Finding Austin Stowell to play young Gibbs was just the beginning for executive producers Gina Lucita Monreal and David North, who had to flesh out a cast of new — and returning — characters stationed at NIS Camp Pendelton in 1991 for CBS' prequel series, set 12 years before "NCIS."
With input from Harmon, who narrates and executive produces the series, "Young Sheldon"-style, the duo had to find a younger version of Gibbs' rugged mentor Michael Franks, the Pendleton alum memorably played by Muse Watson.
"It's an arduous and stressful process because we know how much these roles mean to the fan base, and in the case of Gibbs, really in pop culture," says North.
The final returning character involved NCIS Special Agent Vera Strickland, Franks' onetime partner, who was played by Roma Maffia and appeared in only one episode, but is a prequel-series regular.
Here's how the then-and-now casting went down for "Origins" (premiering Oct. 14, 9 EDT/PDT, then Mondays at 10).
Diany Rodriguez will light up Vera Strickland's 'Origins' world
Longtime "NCIS" producer and writer Monreal pounced on the Season 11 appearance of Maffia's Special Agent Strickland. "It was a great pull," says North, "because Strickland is turning into a great 'Origins' character."
Monreal says Maffia created a full character in her solo "NCIS" episode, which "Origins" explores with NBC's "The Blacklist" star Diany Rodriguez, who appeared in a 2017 episode of "NCIS: New Orleans" as DHS Agent Garcia.
Strickland, along with new character Cecilia ‘Lala’ Dominguez (Mariel Molino), will explore the male-dominated world of NIS Pendleton three decades ago.
"There weren't many female agents in 1991, so Lala and Vera hold down the fort," says Monreal. "We'll see how they navigate what is really a man's world."
Kyle Schmid brings the intensity, and the facial hair, to Mike Franks
Franks, the gung-ho former Marine, was such a critical part of "NCIS" that Gibbs' mentor continued to appear in flashback episodes even after being murdered in Season 8. "Origins" found the power ― and the facial hair ― with Canadian actor Schmid.
"There was the physical likeness, and there was that energy that Kyle brings," says Monreal.
Most significant was the chemistry between Schmid, 40, and Stowell, 39, who had already been cast as the young Gibbs. "After seeing that exchange, I walked out of the room and said, 'That was Franks and Gibbs right there.'" says North.
Austin Stowell buzzes into 'NCIS: Origins' as young Gibbs
Stowell earned the instant Gibbs endorsement from Harmon and his son, "Origins" executive producer Sean Harmon, who often played the young Gibbs in "NCIS" flashbacks.
"After seeing Austin in person, it was like, 'Oh my God, this is Gibbs," says North. "When we called Austin to let him know he had the part, he was in a cabin in the woods and almost missed our call because of no internet. So young Gibbs, in the middle of nowhere.
To demonstrate the level of fan scrutiny, the internet pounced on an early look of Stowell's Gibbs, also a former Marine, without the buzzcut seen in "NCIS" flashbacks. The NCIS-verse official TikTok account posted a video of Stowell getting his "Origins" cut, and later images have stuck with forever-shorn hair.
"There was some blowback from the first picture. It was simple as we weren't anywhere close to shooting," says North. "His hair is now Gibbs-appropriate."

Here's my personal HC for the Fair family tree
Grandma (M) / Grandpa (M): Mom
Grandma (D) / Grandpa (D): Dad
Dad / Mom: Zack
Grandma (MD) : 💀
Grandpa (MD) Old man Yaoi
Yes I HC that after their wives death, both of Zack's grandparents got together since they were childhood friends and also war colleagues who secretly loved each other but never acted upon it and only did so once they were old.
Mom accepted and figured it out first. Dad took WAY too long to understand what was happening, and when he did went like
"WAIT— WHAT— WHEN— HOW—" Bluescreen.
Zack himself took WAY too long to find out about his grandparents because his parents had no idea HOW to touch the subject. I mean, his mom knew, but his dad always interrupted the subject, fearing his son's reaction. Even though both knew his kid would accept it. Until
Zack: Uh, mom, what's up with dad? Why's he acting like that whenever I ask about pops?
Sara: Oh, because—
Jack: WHOWANTSPUMPKINPIEIWANTPUMPKINPIEZACKSONGOFETCHUSSOMEPUMPKINSWILLYA???
Zack gets weirded out, but does so anyway, fetching an axe and out for the pumpkins field.
Sara: JACK FOR FUCK'S SAKE IT'S NOT EVEN PUMPKIN SEASON!
Jack: I KNOW I JUST-AHWJCWKHCWJJCKW YOU GET WHY I DID THAT, SARA!
Sara: NO I DO NOT!
Jack: What if his reaction is bad??
Sara: Jack you know our son and knows even though he likes girls, THERE ISN'T A SINGLE STRAIGHT BONE IN HIM. NO HE WILL NOT HAVE A BAD REACTION!
It takes Zack a total of three hours searching for a ripe pumpkins to realize something— it's winter, it's not pumpkin season. He walked back home and just went to a general store to buy some pumpkin jam instead and heads home.
Zack: Dad, I think you mistook the season, so I got—
He looks up and sees his grandparents and immediately goes to hug them and they talk about how his life on the big city's been. He talked about his friends, about his girlfriend to them. And how he's going to live a beautiful romance with her just like his grandparents did. Sara giggled along with both grandparents and Jack shushed them. Zack didn't get it. Were they laughing at him?
Zack: I... Don't see what's funny, why are y'all laughing?
Sara: Oh, nothing sweetie, it's just—
Jack: YOUJUSTMETHERHOWDOYOUKNOWSHESTHEONE
Sara glared at Jack. Zack frowned at him.
Zack: Well, how did you know mom was the one for you?
Sara: Zack, your dad didn't want to—
Pops (M): Eh, don't worry Bloodhound, we can take it from here.
Sara nodded and dragged Jack out of the room. Jack was eating his nails while waiting for the scene to be over, not knowing what his son's reaction would be. (Also I will be calling them Raph and Crowley for practicity purposes)
Raph: We both have something to say to you, squeaker.
Zack: What?
Both the old men held hands in front of Zack. He looked at it. The two parents were having a distinct reaction, Sara calm and Jack freaking out. Zack looked confused and just shrugged.
Zack: Well?...
Raph: Uh... Alright, uh... You know when... Two people love each other?
He pointed at their held hands. Zack shook his head, still confused. Sara now started to freak out.
Sara: Oh my god.
Jack: DO YOU GET WHY I'M LIKE THIS?!
Zack's fraternal grandfather (Raph) began to stutter, not knowing what to do or say. Zack's maternal grandfather (Crowley) rolled his eyes and just grabbed the other's face and pulled him for a kiss. THAT is when it finally hit to him.
Zack: O H
Jack: DO YOU GET NOW?!
Zack: H O W
Sara: ARE YOU SERIOUS??
Zack: W H E N
Raph: He's young! How did he not catch the clues?!
Zack: W H O
Crowley: You forget he's your grandson.
Zack: HO— wait, what?
Raph: ARE YOU CALLING ME STUPID?!
Zack: ARE YOU CALLING ME STUPID?!

Parents (at least one) are THE WORST but Both Are Still Alive: Jang Shin-yu (Destined With You) Han Yi-joo (Perfect Marriage Revenge) Ko Mun-young** (It's Okay to Not be Okay) Mok Sol-hee (My Lovely Liar) Gu Won (King the Land) Crown Prince Lee Hwi/Dam-yi/Yeon-seon (The King's Affection) Do Bong-soon (Strong Woman Bong-Soon) Woo Young-woo (Extraordinary Attorney Woo)*** Jung Ji-woon (The King's Affection) Kang Bo-geol/Lee Ki-ho (Castaway Diva) Yeo Jeong-woo (Doctor Slump) Hong Hae-in (Queen of Tears) On Eun-yoo (Twinkling Watermelon) Oh Yeon-joo (W: Two Worlds) Yoon Ji-ho (Because This Is My First Life) Nam Se-hee (Because This Is My First Life) Bok Gwi-ju (The Atypical Family) Moon Cha-min (Dreaming of a Freaking Fairytale)
Immortal Being that Still Somehow has Parent Issues: Myul Mang/Doom (Doom at your Service) Lee Yeon & Lee Rang (Tale of the Nine Tailed) Jeong Gu-won (My Demon)
Added trauma flavour: Parent was murdered in front of them (**Still counts if they survived the murder Parent tried to murder them Dying from seemingly incurable disease which makes their parents/guardian sad (If your parents are alive, you must pay for it by dying yourself) Adoptive parent/stepparent is THE WORST
Somehow has normal, alive parents: Lee Jun-ho (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Has no backstory at all. We only meet his older sister and hear nothing about his childhood.) Shin Ha-ri (Business Proposal, her family is refreshingly normal, right down to her brother being sent out to find her when she's drunk) Oh Han-byeol (Sh**ting Stars, Again, we know almost nothing about her family, only that she has twin sisters. But she doesn't appear to have childhood trauma.) Park Yeon-woo (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, her mom being annoyed at her for something that is a crime doesn't count as bad parenting) Lee Young-joon/Sung-hyun (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, his trauma comes from a kidnapper, his parents faced a pretty impossible situation and did their best. They clearly love their kids) Baek Hyun-woo (Queen of Tears, nothing wrong with them out of the ordinary and they are in the drama a significant amount.) Ha Eun-gyeol (Twinkling Watermelon, very loving parents and the deafness and their reliance on him is not anyone's fault)
*Counting her as an orphan even though she gets her parents back after 20 years, she spent her childhood orphaned. ***This character is tricky because I understand why her mother wanted nothing to do with her, but her trying to manipulate the dad and also saying he didn't raise her properly made me so angry. ****This character is tricky because he was explicitly raised as an orphan by his grandma, his father didn't sign his birth certificate (Korean equivalent of this), and he's registered as the child of his grandmother, not his actual mom. His grandma is dead by the beginning of the series and he is living alone without family, so I think he counts as an orphan.
Uncatagorized due to lack of clarity on parents: Soundtrack #1, Hospital Playlist, Happiness

Really want to make a crossover between LCF and one Piece.
Like- imagine, Cale as Shanks (adopted) son?
Shanks (18 yo) and the red hair pirates find Cale when they're in West blue (shanks said that he's from West blue)
They're really clueless about what to do to a baby- fortunately, they already have Yasopp (Yasopp want become a father in a long time, so he know exactly what to do.)
Cale, being a genius dense bastard he is. Play along being a baby. Actually, Shanks kinda irritated him, Shanks really didn't know what to do to children.
Among red hair pirates, Cale really like Benn. Benn really was mature, and quite. That's why he really get along with Benn.
Cale's first word is 'Benn'. Yes, as you expect, Shanks was sulk for a whole weeks because of that.
Benn was smirking. Serve his captain right, that's what he got for being too noise.
When Cale was 7, Shanks made a decision to 'temporary' 'give' Cale to Mihawk. Since his pirate's career become more and more dangerous, he can't make Cale stay on board. What if something happen to Cale? He can't let that happen.
So yeah, he just drop Cale to Mihawk. Mihawk has his own island anyways, so his baby can be safe, right?
To say Mihawk is pissed was underestimate. He was ready to challenge Shanks in death sparing.
How he's not? When he woke up suddenly there's a 7 years old boy in his house? The boy just staring at him and said.
"Hello. My useless father said that's I'll be staying here, for God know until when."
Mihawk was speechless. "Who's your father?"
"Shanks. Yup. The man with the same red hair as mine."
"That's bastard."
"I know right? He actually can just leave me anywhere. I can leave if you want."
Ofc Mihawk can just send a fricking 7 years old child by his own, right? He's a responsible adult after all. Mihawk then sigh.
"What's your name?
"Cale."
"Alright. Does your father said anything else?"
"No, he just say that I'll stay here. Oh, he want me to give it to you." Cale give Mihawk a letter from Shanks.
Mihawk then read the letter.
Heya, Hawkeye~ can you look out for my son for awhile? As you know, I'm become more famous now. Yes I know, I'm fabulous after all! You don't have to do anything about Cale. He really a quite child, he like to read! He also really cute! I'm still don't understand how my cute little son become more close to Benn than me :( when he's still a baby he was so close to me, he always want me to carry him! Now he become behave like Benn! I miss my little guy:(
Anyways! Can you also train him a little? I want him can defend himself. Your know how crazy this world don't you hawkeye?
Please take care of Cale!
With love, your bestest friend
Shanks
Mihawk destroy that letter. The audacity of this bastard-!
Mihawk sigh, he really want kill Shanks. The black hair man look at the child who silently stare at him.
"Your father want me to train you."
Mihawk studying how the cold face become fill with frown. Ho, that's interesting.
"Thank you. But you don't have to."
"You need to defend yourself."
"I can manage." Mihawk raise his eyebrow.
"A 7 years old boy?"
Cale silent. He can said anything to that.
Ah, this is annoying- but what else Cale can do?
"Yes, thanks you."
"Good. I'll train you really hard."
"Please don't do that-"
"Why?"
"I just want to be a slacker-"
"You still need to defend yourself, no?"
"Fuck."
"Language, young man." Well, Mihawk guess it'll be fine. As long as the child not to loud like Shanks they'll get along.
And yes, they're get along pretty well, since Cale and Mihawk both was a man with a few word- they will just sit together and read, sometime they're talking about what happened around the world.
It's kinda comfortable for both of them-
When Cale was 15 yo, he stare at Mihawk who sit on he comfortable couch with a glass of wine. Cale point at the glass.
"Can I have that?" Mihawk raised his eyebrow before shaking his head.
"No, you're underage."
"We're a pirate anyways."
"Oh- you got a point on that- just one glass."
"Alright." Since that day, they're always sharing wine together.
Yup. Good enough

echos of the past
a vision from the gods.
The dragon force has always worked in mysterious ways. Its keepers were all in the same bloodline, holy, holy, holy for more than half an eon, and it was often the keeper of the dragon force that received visions from the gods. But not this time.
Of course, the gods never missed, and they certainly never did anything without reason, so for the gods to send this vision to Ree of all people... Perhaps it was for their harrowing experience with a less than heavenly Harmonia from their own world.
The gods knew that Ree was aware that the Ghetsis of their own world was a monster wearing a human's skin, but they were perhaps less aware that the one they favored was ... not so different. Simply, they knew one who was cruel, and another ... Perhaps this one had once held some semblance of humanity, but as he had grown, that had simply melted away under the weight of his duty and the knowledge that everything he would work for would ... be carried on by his heir.
( I will perform the ritual one day, right? The voice is that of a young boy with messy jade hair. Standing with his back to the boy was another man who resembled a once-glorious phoenix. Ethereal, but greying, the embers of his life force beginning to diwindle. Yes, but that will not be for quite some time. Much as your ascension will not be for some time. I am not so weak that I cannot perform my duty.
Ree would gain the knowledge that this man was Ghetsis Harmonia's father, the former king Ezaveyl. The people had called him the God of the Gateway of Eternal Fire, and it was rumored that unlike the other members of the Harmonias, Ezaveyl had been able to cheat death by choosing Ho-Oh as the deity he would work closest with. Like the kings before him, he was wise and distant, capable of making the 'hard choices' that his naive son was yet to understand.
Ree would gain the knowledge that this was how the Harmonias lost their humanity- at a young age, knowing the great burden and blessings they'd bear.
The dragon force brings life to the planet, Ghetsis. To embody it and to guard it is the greatest of honors. And when you are the Keeper, then you will know.
Do you think I will be a good king?
You will be. Even in hardship, I know you will be. )

The Gospel According to Berkeley
Mary: What? More visitors?
Professor: Greetings Joseph and Miriam from Nazareth. The Star of Bethlehem and GPS showed us the way to your door. Allow us to introduce ourselves: we are three wise men from the West.
Kelcy: Okay, um, three wise persons.
Professor: Of course. May we enter?
Wordle: Love the decor. Very earthy.
Kelcy: Yes, so sustainable.
Professor: Oh, yes, what are these walls? Tadelakt?
Mary: I'm sorry but it's really late. I just had a baby.
Joseph: Yeah, and we we already had a visit from the three wise men from the East. they just left, so maybe it's not a good time.
Professor: With all due respect to these Eastern "wise men," we're from Berkeley.
Joseph: Okay. Anyway, they give us their blessing and they told us that our newborn son will be the King of the Jews.
Professor: The Jews? King of the Jews? What, what do you mean Jews?
Wordle: I don't see anything Jewish here.
Professor: You have to understand, Jews will only come to this land 1,948 years from now.
Kelcy: As a colonialist power!
Professor: Oh, I see someone's been listening this semester.
Kelcy: True.
Joseph: What do you mean? We are Jews!
Professor: No. No, you're not.
Mary: So what are we?
Professor: You are Palestinians, of course.
Wordle: That drip is fire.
Mary: Palas... what?
Professor: Palestinians, the indigenous inhabitants of this land. In the beginning, God created the Heaven, the Earth and Palestinians.
Mary: Oh wait, so my baby is also Palestiniman?
Professor: Of course. And you don't practice Judaism, you practice Islam.
Wordle: Allahu Akbar, man.
Kelcy: So Akbar.
Joseph: What is Islam?
Professor: I'm sorry, that's a very islamophobic question.
Kelcy: Actually, it makes me feel unsafe.
Joseph: So, wait a minute. Our baby will be the King of the Palestinians?
Professor: Exactly. Too bad he'll be dead at a very young age because he'll be murdered by the Jews.
Joseph: Oh, my god.
Kelcy: Um, excuse me, Professor? Uh, so there are Jews living here?
Professor: No, no, no, no, no, no, no. Only Palestinians.
Wordle: Oh. So the Palestinians will kill Jesus?
Professor: No, no. No Palestinian would ever hurt anyone. Never. Especially not Hamas.
Wordle: Wait. I don't understand.
Professor: Okay, guys this is exactly what our next class is about, alright? How did the Jews kill Jesus without even existing? It's going to be fun, alright? Don't worry about it.
Wordle: Wow, it's so worth 54 grand a year in tuition.
Professor: Right?
Kelcy: Exciting.
Professor: Anyways, congratulations on your definitely not Jewish baby boy.
Kelcy: Yay! Woo! Can we go visit Santa in the North Pole?
Professor: North Palestine. North Palestine. Santa is a Palestinian too!
Kelcy: Santa hu Akbar!
Professor: Very good.
Kelcy: Ho, ho, ho.
Joseph: What the hell was that?
Mary: Jesus...
==
This sort of ahistorical revisionist bullshit is taught as indisputable fact in bogus ideological domains, like Postcolonial Studies and Palestine Studies. It's no more true than that two million Israelites were enslaved in Egypt and escaped across the desert. Their continuous presence in the region is well documented.
