Listen up.
The current Supreme Court is a 6-3 conservative majority.
Justice Thomas, that corrupt fascist fucker, is 75.
Justice Alito, that biased fascist fucker, is 74.
Each is married to a fascist ultra right wing woman. Ginny Thomas was actively involved in Trump's efforts to overturn the 2020 election. Martha Ann Alito is the alleged source of the ultra right wing flags on the Alito homes.
If Trump is elected in 2024, Thomas and Alito will retire, just like Kennedy did in 2018. Trump will get to appoint two more justices in their 50s.
Like sexual assaulter and liar Kavanaugh. Or handmaid's tale Coney Barrett. And the conservative majority will be on lock for thirty years. Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Coney Barrett are in their 50s.
Add two more ultraconservative justices in their 50s and you have a five seat conservative majority for 30 years if they live natural lifetimes.
If Trump is elected in 2024, we've not only lost the Court for at least a decade (now) but another thirty years.
What other civil rights would you like to lose? Because YOU WILL. We ALL will.
Can we fucking not? CAN WE FUCKING NOT?
Vote for Biden.
Vote for Democrats for the Senate.

If you are a voter in Georgia, please check your registration consistently as the election approaches.
The Secretary of State has launched a program that allows people to cancel registrations. Including other people's registrations. They can do so with only your name, date of birth, and county.
In Georgia, you have until 29 days before the election to register or re-register if you were purged.

If you're on the fence at all about whether or not you should vote in the upcoming election, or if your mind is pretty made up that you're not going to vote, I absolutely beg of you, please vote. No your one vote probably won't change the course of history and swing the election one way or the other, but if you're considering not voting because you don't think it's important, think about how many other hundreds or thousands of people in your constituency are thinking the same. Those votes collectively can and will impact the result. I understand that the possibilities for pm are all shit, but remember that you're voting for your member of parliament, to represent you, not voting for a prime minister. Look at who the people running in your constituency are and choose whichever of them you most want to represent you in parliament, even if it's not the most tactical vote for getting the Tories out. What's important is that you use your right to vote - voter turnout is always shockingly low, especially with young people, do what you can to help those figures go up and also to have someone you agree with representing you in parliament

Change is incremental, but something CHANGED today. You weren’t sure about voting for Biden? You don’t have to anymore! And now is the time to RALLY. The world is fucked up, but letting Trump win will not lead to the political revolution we’re waiting for. Wake up.
Im gonna vote for Kamala Harris in November because I don’t want a wannabe dictator running our country. Simple as that.

Don't Lose Your Vote! UK Edition
Update: Tuesday 18th June 2024 is the deadline to register to vote for the general election.
A snap general election could be called any day. This will be the first general election that requires photo ID if you vote at the polls (postal votes 📫 are unaffected by the Election Act 2022).
If you don't have an approved form of identification (list here), you can apply for a FREE voter ID photo card. Find out more below or use these 5 minutes to register and get your ID sorted instead ❎ because, and this is important to know, the government really doesn't want young people to vote.
The Explanation
Rishi Sunak, UK Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party, may call a snap election in 2023. (A snap election is a vote brought in earlier ⏱ than the one that’s scheduled 🕐) The UK’s next general election (for MPs and the PM) is meant to happen between December 2024 and January 2025.
A snap election happens in as little as 25 days 😨 between the announcement (aka the PM asking the House of Commons’ to approve the dissolution of Parliament) and the vote 🏃‍♀️
You must be registered to vote - currently over 8 million people are not. Unlike other a democratic countries, the UK doesn’t automatically register all eligible voters. You have to do this yourself. Here’s a quick reminder of how to register:
youtube
Over the past 15 years, it has gotten harder for British citizens to vote:
Families can no longer register to vote as a household 🏡 so young voters must register themselves (Cameron Govt)
Colleges and universities are barred from registering students 👨‍🎓 (Cameron Govt)
The Elections Act requires photo ID 🤳 for anyone voting in person (Johnson Govt)
Local elections (for city and town governments) in 2023 were the first votes that required VOTER ID. According to the Electoral Commission, over 14,000 people were turned away from the polls because they had not heard about the change.
The House of Lords tried to amend the Elections Act before it passed, to include more common types of ID, such as bank statements, bills, student ID, library cards and much more. This amendment was struck down in the House of Commons. A lot of the IDs included in the approved list are more likely to be owned by older voters than younger ones. For example, a 60+ Oyster Card is acceptable ID but an 18+ Oyster Card is not.
Here’s the important thing to know: voters who don’t have a driving licence or passport or other approved forms of ID, can apply for a free voter ID photo card. Watch the video below to find out how!
youtube
And finally, please, for the love of our democracy, vote.
"Democracy is not something you believe in or a place to hang your hat, but it's something you do. You participate. If you stop doing it, democracy crumbles." Abbie Hoffman

‘nobody wants a general election, obviously’, says second PM in a row that wasn’t voted in by the general public, wasn’t even voted in by members of the party let alone the people he claims to represent, and whose party is predicted to lose said general election

polling day on thursday so this is your notice that if you actively choose not to vote, then you have no fucking right to complain about the way things turn out.
"but i don't want to go to the polling station!" you had plenty of time to apply for a postal or proxy vote.
"they're both the same!" 1. no they're fucking not. 2. this isn't the us. voting for the greens or the lib dems or snp or independent or count fucking binhead does mean something.
"but the prime minister will be rishi sunak or kier starmer!" yes, probably, but politics is not just national. you will be represented by somebody, i suggest you look at your local candidates.
democracy literally only works if people participate. go and fucking vote.

Dog Democracy
Tumblr media
ID: Three African Painted Dogs facing the camera, holding the same stick. They have not a single thought between them. The dogs are mottled black, white and a pale brown/yellow. They have large ears.
Group decision making in the animal kingdom is always really funny to me, because there's so many surprising ways in which it's implemented.
Painted Dogs (aka African Wild Dogs akaka Cape hunting dogs) operate on a semi-democratic system when it comes to deciding when to go on an adventure (excursion). Unfortunately they don't have voting centres or ballot papers, mostly because they don't have opposable thumbs so holding a pen would be really hard.
Instead, they sneeze! If a quorum is reached within the group, they will depart to complete the task they need, which can range from hunting to exploring new territory. Much like human democracies, they're not quite equal: those individuals with higher social standing carry a greater weight in the vote, and thus a few high ranking sneezes are sufficient for a quorum, vs many inferior sneezes.
So Fuck Pericles, Fuck Athens, give credit where it's due, dogs had democracy long before humans did.
If you are in the UK and above the age of 18, don't forget to REGISTER TO VOTE IN THE GENERAL ELECTION by the 18th of June! It is our civic duty to beat the everloving neoliberal shit out of The Tories and The Tories Lite.
