Another Update
Hi all, long time, no type.
I'm now 3 years 2 months post top surgery! Not much has changed besides the scars continuing to fade. Still a little redness in one place, but mostly now the scars just appear a little darker than the rest of my skin.
Meta!
After 2+ years of nightmare world with Dr. Meltzer's clinic, the conclusion is that I am now getting surgery with Dr. Esmonde, who was trained by Meltzer, and is located in Portland. I was handed over to him, unbeknownst to both of us (I thought my surgery was completely cancelled and he and I both found out only about a month ago that I was given to him), and I was able to keep my previously rescheduled date of July 20th! So I'm having surgery in 1 month and 15 days! I had given up and had accepted that I would have had to start the process all over again, but it's been a really nice surprise to have the surgery back on, and coming up so soon. I'm honestly really excited about it. I can't wait to get the v-nectomy, as that's my main source of dysphoria. I can't wait to have a perineum. I can't wait to stp. I can't wait to be totally comfortable having sex and not having to worry about people taking advantage of me. I just can't wait.
If anyone has any questions or wants current top surgery pics or pre-op dick pics to see what I'm working with, feel free to ask!

[“I never felt like I was born in the wrong body,” he says, referring to the dominant medical discourse, though he hated looking in the mirror and says he “felt extreme discomfort” with the body he had. Lucas has been binding his chest for two years using a compression sports bra, always a little too tight, usually followed by a T-shirt and a man’s shirt. He does so for safety, because he sometimes goes to rural Putnam County: “very small, really Southern places,” doing HIV education. “If they knew I was queer, let alone trans, I would probably be killed, so I kind of have to keep all of that very much on the ‘down low’ when I’m doing work out in the community.” But to his co-workers he is “very, very out.” For Lucas, undergoing top surgery is an assertion of what some feminists call bodily autonomy. Pro-choice activists argue that the government has no right to tell women what to do with their body; transgender activists say that they have the right to change their body if they please.
Lucas is at the surgeon’s office with Oliver, a former boyfriend who is also a bearded trans man; and Rachel, a bisexual Latina, his “soul mate and sister.” Lucas says he has “always known” he wanted top surgery,” even before he began injecting testosterone. A few friends in Gainesville who had undergone surgery with Dr. Garramone became mentors to younger trans people in town like Lucas, directing them to friendly therapists and doctors, and helping them get letters for testosterone. Having crowdfunded the $7,000 he needed for top surgery, Lucas is giving away $500 to charity.
And then there is Nadia, a twenty-eight-year-old from St. Louis who works as an employment coach at a nonprofit agency. The odd girl out, she is having her chest masculinized, but not as part of a gender transition. As a how-to book suggests, top surgery is “not just for those transitioning from female to male” but also for others on the gender spectrum, including “gender non-conforming, gender fluid, bi-gender, butch, and so on.” Nadia feels some camaraderie with trans men undergoing top surgery and considers herself “near the trans community, but not in it.” She has short brown hair, bushy eyebrows, and olive skin, and she is wearing large horn-rimmed glasses, a men’s shirt, and hip-hugging straight-leg jeans that look baggy on her slender frame.
When Nadia was twenty-one, her breasts suddenly grew to about a 32C. “They just went boom,” she says, and she told me they felt outsized for her small frame. At certain points in her monthly cycle, when they bloomed even more, she couldn’t even bring herself to get dressed. She felt more comfortable in an androgynous style, wore men’s clothing, and hated the way her buxom bosom made her clothes fit. And she loathes having them touched. She identifies as female and has no interest in taking testosterone, but she sees her breasts as an impediment, a part of her body that does not reflect how she sees herself. Nadia’s queer circle includes trans friends with whom she shares a deep sense of alienation from standard-issue notions of femaleness. She is here with her girlfriend, Flora, an art student whom she met on OkCupid four years ago; the two were drawn together by their mutual interest in art, politics, and graphic novels.
Nadia upends conventional notions of what women should look like and how they should be. She’ll remain female, but she shares with the others here today the belief that their breasts don’t fit and that by changing their bodies they can become more comfortable in their skin and more successful in their lives.”]

okay TODAY is the day i will talk about camilla because she is a baby who deserved better.
Tumblr media
camilla elen fiona of house raven, born in 1220, is the younger daughter of king dagorad of cintra and adalia of garramone, younger sister to queen calanthe, the lioness of cintra. when she turned fifteen and her sister was expected to marry, to distract the lords and magnates from their demands, queen calanthe made a show of looking for a fitting suitor for her sister. princess camilla was in the end married well below her station - to a temerian duke, rather than a prince or king. after she left for temeria, there is no record of the sisters ever seeing each other, or speaking again. it is said that princess camilla, now duchess, never quite forgave her queen for her choice of husband for her, and refused to speak to, or of her. any letters received stamped with the cintran coat of arms were burned without even being gazed upon. duchess camilla went on to have six daughters and, at last, a son, the youngest of her children. it is speculated that not her, but the duke wanted a son so desperately, and so they kept trying, until a male heir was born. queen calanthe attempted many times to mend things with her younger sister, but all her attempts were in vain.

Tomato Basil Scones
I recently got hold of Breakfast Breads and Sweet Treats by Father Dominic Garramone (who inadvertently set me on the baking path many years ago). Flipping through it, I found a recipe for Tomato Basil Scones, and decided what the hell, let's give it a try. It's a generally easy recipe to follow, so I post it here:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) cold butter cut into slices
2 tablespoons minced fresh basil (2 teaspoons dried)
1/2 teaspoon minced fresh rosemary (1/4 teaspoon dried & ground)
1/2 cup chopped sun-dried tomatoes (not in oil)
3/4 cup crushed tomatoes
Garlic butter & parmesan for topping (optional)
Preheat oven to 425 and lightly grease an 8" x 8" cake pan.
In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Cut in butter with a pastry blender or two knives (I just used my hands) until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in herbs and sun-dried tomatoes until evenly distributed. Add crushed tomatoes and mix until dough forms into a ball. Knead gently for five or six strokes. Press dough into pan until spread evenly in pan. Using a bench knife or spatula, divide into nine squares.
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until browned and the scones are slightly firm to the touch. Allow to cool in pan for 10 minutes before serving warm. If desired, brush with melted garlic butter and Parmesan cheese before serving.
(As a side note, I'd just taken these out of the oven when Red asked me to go to Macs and get her borger for lunch. When I came back, one of the squares had mysteriously vanished and she had a very smug look on her face!)

I think one of the most interesting relationships in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist is Tangent and Instance because of how mirrors IRL relationships between trans folks and doctors who provide gender affirming care, especially surgeons. Obviously they're more tied together as mentor/mentee, but Instance as the person who delivered the gene therapy that let Tangent physically transition definitely affects the relationship, and it reminds me of the way some folks in the trans community will defend certain gender affirming surgeons who have shitty practices (*cough Garramone cough*) because we're so grateful to be able to transition we feel indebted to the doctors with the skills to make it happen.

Quick Update
So uh, it's been a while since I've posted any updates, but I'm one year ten months post top surgery and everything has basically settled down. My scars are fading, except for this one spot where the scar is a little thicker than the rest, but it doesn't look too bad. My nips are pretty good. They experience some drying out sometimes and I use this cream that was prescribed to me and I only use it when I need it. Otherwise, I'm all good on stretching and pushing myself to my limit, I think.
But now, I'm on to bottom surgery (metoidioplasty). I just had my consultation with Dr. Ley who is currently at the Meltzer Clinic in Arizona, although she is moving to California and joining the Gender Confirmation Clinic to work with Dr. Scott Mosser. Dr. Ley examined me and thinks I'm a good candidate for the surgery, I didn't feel rushed when asking my questions, and she gave me a lot of information. Originally I wanted to have my consult with Dr. Meltzer, but because of some issues with the clinic office, Dr. Ley was the earliest I could see someone from the clinic. So I took it to at least get my foot in the door. As of right now, I'm able to schedule surgery, but I also want to have another consult with Dr. Meltzer while I'm waiting, since I'm going with him for the surgery.
Right now, I'm having a lot of issues with insurance, but I won't get into that unless someone is interested in hearing it. It's just really stressful because my family is also moving to Portland (we live in southern Oregon) just before I'm planning on scheduling the surgery. Also my parents are separating, so they'll each have their own places, but it's not that bad. The main thing is the insurance that's freaking me out. But anyway, if you guys are interested in seeing pictures of either my chest or even maybe what I'm working with downstairs, feel free to message me about either one!
Oh, one other thing is that I've lost a total of 50 lbs since my highest weight. It really wanted to lose weight for bottom surgery so that I could have the best results, and even Dr. Ley said I was skinny (even though I definitely have some fat left over that I would love to get rid of). But that made me feel pretty confident about how my results might be.

As of yesterday, April 9th, 2019, I am officially post op for top surgery with Dr. Garramone.
It’s been 8 years that I’ve been waiting to have this surgery and it’s finally done. I’ve cried so many tears of happiness. The love and relief is just pouring out of me.
*Btw, I call this my chest diaper.
