i've been replaying mcsm recently, and i decided to save gabriel instead of petra this time... best decision i've ever made.

the old order is genuinely so underrated. they had me sobbing my eyes out every time they interacted, i wish more people talked about them

Thinking on Lestat reflecting on fate lying in wait; Nicolas’ Father saying he’d break his hands, then Armand chopping off the hands; Gabrielle on the brink of death - made immortal only to leave Lestat.

Nicolas in the streets, screaming about The Horrors to mortals… just as mortal Lestat accosted everyone he saw as a mortal during his own existential crisis…

Nicolas wanting to make new vampires in wild abandon… it doesn’t seem so much a madness to me… unless sanity is mere self preservation….?

Lestat sinking; dreaming he’d made his whole family vampires (who hated him, and yet… Dead.)

Lestat going into The Earth, continuing his conversation with Nicolas… wanting to join him. Only the thought that perhaps Nicolas feels no thing at all now being worse than this pain.

What if Nicolas had been able to go into The Earth. Could he have been saved?

So @mythomars posted something recently about wanting to see baby Scott freeze up in front of the team and Xavier react badly to it. I couldn't think of anything that hit that beat off the top of my head, but it did remind me a bit of Deadly Genesis. So I decided to make this post.

Anyway, Deadly Genesis was the story by Ed Brubaker that established the existence of Vulcan, the third (and probably not last) Summers brother.

So in this story, it's revealed that the Krakoan mission that led to the recruitment of the team in Giant-Sized X-Men was a bit more complicated than it initially seemed.

In Giant-Sized, we're told that the entire team was captured on Krakoa, essentially trapped in some kind of suspended animation state. Cyclops was the only one to escape, returning to Xavier for help and then leads the new team to rescue his old team.

Now in Deadly Genesis, we're told it happened a bit differently. In fact, Cyclops hadn't escaped. He was captured like the others, and Xavier had sent a second team of youngsters (this group trained by Moira MacTaggart) as a cavalry. Among them is Gabriel Summers, the long lost third Summers brother.

They manage to extract Cyclops, but then things go very wrong:

So Xavier does a scan with Cerebro and determines that the Original Team (the O5 + Alex and Lorna) are still alive and trapped. But there's no sign of Vulcan and the others. They're dead.

Moira is understandably distraught, but the others still need rescue. Fair enough. But that's when we get this:

I mean, obviously Scott did react very badly to the idea of his new brother dying to save him. He's probably going to need a lot of time and help to deal with yet another traumatic loss on top of, well, his whole life.

But who needs therapy when you have telepathy:

Sorry about your brother, kid. But you're a lot more useful as a team leader than someone with functioning mental health, so we're just going to mind-wipe you clear. Congratulations!
