- this is a labour of love created out of utter respect towards a legendary artist. - "ScienceFictionLiebe" is one of the best & most exciting brooding electro tracks i'd heard in years. Also, the 'scene' i've always been a part of, owes way too much to D.A.F. whose loyal & avid fan i have been ever since i first got me hands on "Die Kleinen und die Bösen" back in 1980-81.

some technical notes : - most of the 'explicit' sequences were rendered in 3DSMax/Poser or Unity software and later manipulated via Ruby, Pixel-Bender & Processing framework code, as well as, within After Effects. Gabi's shots were sourced online and reconstructed in 3D space via displacement & motion vector generation by Trapcode particles.

Sad to hear about the passing of Gabi Delgado-Lopez from DAF. I was friends with him in DAF's early days as a four piece and he stayed with me occasionally in 1979-1980 as DAF were transitioning to a two-piece. RIP Gabi

eine rampensau war er. ein hans dampf in allen gassen. ein lebenskünstler. ein punk. ein typ, von dem man denkt “der muss doch als kind in einen trank gefallen sein”. gabi delgado lopez. spanier. ruhrpottler. londoner. weltbürger. wahlberliner. und dann tod in portugal. im märz 2020. herzinfarkt. angeblich überraschend.

1978 gründet delgado mit robert görl in wuppertal daf - die deutsch amerikanische freundschaft - und weiß damals noch nicht, dass sie wohl eines der eingenwilligsten und langlebigsten produkte des deutschen new wave in die welt gesetzt haben. daf haben musikgeschichte geschrieben und werden heute, neben “kraftwerk”, den “neubauten” und den krautrockern “can” als pioniere elektronischer musik auch über deutschlands grenzen hinaus gehandelt. nachdem daf sich einen namen in der szene gemacht hatte, erreichte die band mit dem 1980 erschienen album “die kleinen und die bösen” den internationalen durchbruch. der stil von daf - die reduktion der verwendeten und teilweise dilletantisch gespielten instrumente, die ungewöhnlichen synthieklänge, der monotone sprechgesang und die provokativen, teilweise dadaistischen und brachial-politischen texte beeinflussten andere bands und künstler der neuen deutschen welle nachhaltig. als delgado 1986 nach westberlin zog, arbeitet er als dj und zählte zu den techno-aktivisten der ersten stunde. mit dem damals noch blutjungen westbam veranstaltete delgado die ersten house partys deuschlands und gründete gleich mehrere techno und house labels. welche stimmung damals in westberlin herrschte kann man unter anderem in dem 2015 erschienen essayfilm “b-movie: lust and sound in westberlin” oder jochen hicks “mein wunderbares west-berlin” von 2017 nachvsehen. nachlesen kann man sie in wolfgang müllers “subkultur westberlin”, dem katalog zur ausstellung “geniale dilletanten” (die mir unvergessen bleibt) oder in dem unlängst erschienen roman “aufprall” von bude, munk und wieland. allesamt sind unbedingt zu empfehlen. gabi delgado gehörte in jenen jahren zur festen größe des vom rest der brd abgeschnittenenn, irgendwie vergessenen tummelplatzes für jede art von kreativen, punks und freaks. nach der wende starte er mit dem mittlerweile zur ersten riege deutscher schauspieler gehörenden wotan wilke möhring das bandprojekt daf/ dos, deren titel so illustre namen tragen wie “ich glaub, ich fick dich später“ oder “oversexed discotheque”. 2003 schlossen sich delgado und görl nochmals zusammen, nachdem sie ab der mitte der 80er getrennte wege gegangen waren und spielten 2018 als support von depeche mode vor über 20000 leuten. 8 alben mit daf, 3 mit daf/dos, 3 soloalben und einige beiträge auf compilations hat uns gabi delgado hinterlassen. mehr als genug material, also um noch ne weile in erinnerung zu bleiben!

«RAIN DOGS» is a reference to Washington State’s “finest” Rainier Beer, which kept us hydrated during our road trip through the PNW in February of 2020 BC (Before Covid). It’s also a slight hint to the predominantly moist weather we experienced on our visit State-side. A trip where our rental car smelled like a pack of wet dogs 24/7, and even with rain so persistent it could soak through the toughest of Gore-Tex, it could not dampen our spirits or stop our mission to film Yearning For Turning in the Pacific North West. We had an absolute blast navigating the slopes of Baker, Crystal and Bachelor, linking turns on every type of snow imaginable, making new friends in the lift lines and down at the pub, eating ?-day-old pizza from the tailgate in the parking lot, and drinking a couple «Rain Dogs» here and there. Collectively we tried our best to capture our turns in new surroundings, and are pretty darn surprised and happy with the outcome. Hope y’all enjoy it too!
