'Hunger results from political decisions,' Lula says at G20 meeting
Lula and his minister of finance defended taxing the richest; meeting discussed launching Global Alliance against hunger
Tumblr media
On Wednesday (24), Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers’ Party) took part in the opening session of the Ministerial Meeting of the Task Force to Establish a Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty. The activity took place in Rio de Janeiro, in the warehouse where the Ação da Cidadania project, created by sociologist and activist Herbert de Souza, popularly known as Betinho, operates.
The Global Alliance Against Hunger is Brazil's main project at the presidency of G20, which will last until November this year, and aims to meet one of the main goals of the UN 2030 Agenda: the elimination of poverty and hunger in the world.
In a speech, President Lula emphasized the growth of food insecurity and hunger in the world after 2019 and said that hunger results from political decisions. “Hunger is the most degrading of human deprivations. It is an attack on life, an assault on freedom. As the great Brazilian social scientist Josué de Castro said, hunger is the biological expression of social evils,” he said.
“Hunger is not the result of external factors. It is, above all, the result of political choices. Today, the world produces more than enough food to eradicate [hunger]. What is missing is creating the conditions for access to food,” said the president.

Latin American version of the "Marshall Plan"? The United States no longer hides it Laura Richardson, commander of the US Southern Command responsible for Latin American defense, said not long ago that the United States should consider a "Marshall Plan" for Latin America, otherwise it would not be able to counter the cooperation between Russia and China and countries in the region. Just before and after Richardson made these remarks, US Secretary of State Blinken had just announced the launch of the "Western Hemisphere Semiconductor Plan" at the "Americas Economic Prosperity Partnership" (APEP) Ministerial Meeting, aiming to "promote the development of semiconductor manufacturing and other fields in regional countries", and US Treasury Secretary Yellen took the opportunity of attending the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting to visit Brazil to strengthen relations with Latin American countries. These were interpreted by the US media as having the meaning of "responding to China's influence in the region".

The Future of Global Economic Governance: G20 Summit 2023 Discussion
Tumblr media
Each year, the 20 biggest economies in the world convene at the G20 Summit to address issues affecting the global economy and to coordinate policy. The United States, Canada, Japan, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia, China, India, South Korea, Australia, Turkey, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and the European Union are all members of the G20, which was founded in 1999.
Leaders will have the chance to debate topics like trade, investments, global economic growth, financial market regulation, and poverty alleviation during the G20 Summit. Heads of state or government, finance ministers, governors of central banks, and other senior officials typically attend the meeting.
The G20 Summit is regarded as a crucial forum for advancing global economic cooperation and tackling some of the most urgent economic issues today. In addition to the main summit, several G20 working groups and task forces have a number of meetings and events throughout the year to discuss certain economic topics.
The 18th meeting of the G20 Heads of State and Government will be held in New Delhi on September 9 and 10, 2023. The Summit will be the culmination of all G20 procedures and gatherings of ministers, senior officials, and civil society representatives that took place throughout the year. A G20 Leaders' Statement will be adopted at the conclusion of the New Delhi Summit, outlining the Leaders' commitment to the priorities discussed and chosen during the relevant ministerial and working group meetings.
The G20 Logo was designed in part by drawing influence from the vibrant colors of the Indian flag, which are saffron, white, green, and blue. The lotus, the national flower of India, is used as a metaphor for planet Earth since it represents triumph over hardship. The Planet reflects India's pro-planet ideology of living in perfect harmony with nature. Under the G20 logo, "Bharat" is written in Devanagari script.
The motto of India's G20 presidency is Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to "One Earth, One Family, One Future." It comes from the ancient Sanskrit text known as the Maha Upanishad. The subject basically emphasises the significance of all life, including human, animal, plant, and microbial life, as well as their interconnectedness on Earth and across
The theme also emphasises LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which is related to environmentally sound and responsible actions made at the level of both individual lifestyles and national development, resulting in globally transformative activities that contribute to a cleaner, greener, and bluer future.
It would be a great opportunity to showcase the country's economic potential and leadership at the G20 Conference in 2023.
India, one of the economies with the highest growth rates in the world, has a Foreign Direct Investment or FDI of $84.8 billion. India has made significant advancements in recent years in areas such as infrastructure development, financial inclusion, and technological innovation.
By hosting the G20 Summit, India would be able to collaborate with other significant economies to affect the global economic agenda. Also, it provides a place for discussion of significant problems, including climate change, sustainable development, and equitable growth.
Overall, India has a lot to offer as the host country of the G20 Summit, and the event would be a huge opportunity for the country to demonstrate its commitment to global economic leadership and collaboration.

International Monetary Fund (IMF) Warns West Against Seizing Russia’s Money! The Move Could Undermine The Global Monetary System, According To The Fund’s Spokesperson
Tumblr media
© Getty Images/Selensergen
Western plans to either confiscate Russia’s frozen central bank reserves directly or use the profit they generate could undermine the global monetary system, the IMF has warned.
Western nations, particularly the US, UK and EU states, have blocked an Estimated $300 Billion in assets belonging to the Russian central bank since the start of the Ukraine conflict in February 2022.
The US and a number of EU nations have advocated confiscating these assets to finance Ukraine’s defense and future reconstruction. However, France, Germany, and several other EU members have resisted those calls, warning that such a move could set a dangerous precedent and adversely affect the euro. Some Western countries proposed to appropriate only the interest accrued on the assets, but that approach is also fraught with legal difficulties.
“It is important for the fund that any actions taken have a sufficient legal basis and do not undermine the functioning of the international monetary system,” IMF spokeswoman Julie Kozack said at a press briefing on Thursday when asked by RIA Novosti about the Western plans for the frozen assets.
Assessing the prospects for reaching an agreement about the Russian funds at the G7 level in light of the group’s upcoming ministerial meeting in Italy, Kozack emphasized that any decisions must be made in the appropriate courts and jurisdictions.

The IMF has repeatedly cautioned that Western plans to seize frozen Russian assets could entail unforeseen risks.
The push to seize the money, which has been led by the US, has caused a rift among the G7 and EU political elite. The US, which holds only $6 Billion out of the $300 billion in frozen Russian assets, had long been pushing its allies for the outright seizure.
Some Western officials have backed the idea, suggesting transferring the funds to Ukraine, or at least using the interest generated by the assets. However, this approach has faced opposition from the European Central Bank and criticism from the IMF.
While Kiev’s Western backers generally agree that the frozen assets should be used to aid Ukraine, they are at odds about whether an outright seizure would be legal.
Moscow has repeatedly said that seizing its funds would amount to theft and would further undermine global trust in the Western financial system. Russia also warned that it would retaliate if such a step were taken.

Tax on the super-rich approved in G20 leaders' declaration
Tumblr media
Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, the heads of state and government of the G20, the main forum for international economic cooperation, endorsed a proposal for progressive taxation, which calls for the effective taxation of individuals deemed super-rich. The proposal is included in the summit's final communiqué, released on Monday afternoon (Nov. 18), the first day of the annual meeting.
"With full respect for tax sovereignty, we will seek to engage cooperatively to ensure that ultra-high-net-worth individuals are effectively taxed. Cooperation may include exchanging best practices, fostering debates on tax principles, and developing anti-avoidance mechanisms, such as addressing potentially harmful tax practices. We look forward to continuing discussions on these issues within the G20 and other relevant forums, drawing on the technical contributions of international organizations, universities, and experts," says the document, whose final content was approved by consensus.
This proposal to tax the super-rich was the result of the consensus reached in the G20 Ministerial Declaration on International Tax Cooperation in Rio de Janeiro, brokered by the Brazilian government. This agreement was upheld in the final version released, without any reservations.

More action on India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, which is a subset of Europe’s ‘Global Gateway’ program
COGwriter
Here are reports related to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor which is hoped by some promoters to counter some of the influence of China’s Belt & Road Initiative (also called the Silk Road Project):
14 February 2024
Prime Minister Narendra Modi struck an agreement with the United Arab Emirates to continue working on a major trade corridor linking India through the Middle East to Europe, despite the widening regional conflict stemming from the war between Israel and Hamas.
Modi met with UAE leader Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi at the start of a three-day trip to the region, where the war and conflict in the Red Sea featured heavily in discussions, according to India’s
India’s Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra. Both leaders agreed, though, to take the first step to operationalize part of the ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, or IMEC, he said. https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/india/pm-modi-in-uae-pushes-ahead-with-india-mideast-europe-corridor-despite-israel-hamas-war/articleshow/107695116.cms?utm_source=contentofinterest&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=cppst
13 February 2024
India and the Untied Arab Emirates inked a trade deal on Tuesday to connect the subcontinent with Europe via ports in the Middle East.
The deal was announced during a visit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Abu Dhabi, where he met Emirati President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
“This would build on previous understandings and cooperation on this matter and foster India and the UAE cooperation furthering regional connectivity,” India’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement. …
The India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor is a proposed ship-to-rail transit network that was first touted on the sidelines of last year’s G20 summit in New Delhi. https://www.dw.com/en/modi-signs-intercontinental-trade-pact-during-uae-visit/a-68247395
This plan basically helps better connect Europe to Asia and the Middle East in order to improve trade between THEM.
Europe already has its Global Gateway project, and this is basically another aspect of it. Here is some information on something else the Global Gateway project is doing:
2 February 2024
The 24th EU-ASEAN Ministerial Meeting follows up on the EU-ASEAN commemorative Summit of December 2022, during which the EU pledged to mobilise €10 billion for connectivity projects in ASEAN by 2027 under the Global Gateway investment strategy. Already €4.2 billion is being engaged.
To emphasise the centrality of ASEAN in the EU Indo-Pacific Strategy, ASEAN Foreign Ministers have also been invited to participate in the EU’s 3rd Indo-Pacific Ministerial Forum, to be held on the same day.
Global Gateway is the EU’s positive offer to reduce the worldwide investment disparity and boost smart, clean and secure connections in digital, energy and transport sectors, and to strengthen health, education and research systems.
The Global Gateway strategy embodies a Team Europe approach that brings together the European Union, EU Member States, and European development finance institutions. Together, we aim to mobilise up to €300 billion in public and private investments from 2021 to 2027, creating essential links rather than dependencies, and closing the global investment gap. https://international-partnerships.ec.europa.eu/news-and-events/news/global-gateway-eu-and-asean-strengthen-their-partnership-sustainable-connectivity-2024-02-02_en
The EU project is ambitious. It is intended to help ensure, that it, and not China or the USA will gain dominance. This is strategically interesting in that Europe is not intending to spend as much as China, but by being more selective about where to spend its funds, it will mainly fill in ‘gaps’ that it expects will benefit it the most. Notice that North America is NOT part of the connectivity plans.
Furthermore, unlike the Chinese plan, the European one involves infrastructure around data and communications technology.
The Bible shows that economically as the “daughter of Babylon,” Europe will rise up in this century–(cf. Revelation chapters 17 & 18)–and this Global Gateway project is another step in that direction.
Consider that while China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) itself will face various obstacles, it looks to be supportive of some biblical prophecies as roads normally work two ways. China is connecting to Asia, Africa, and Europe, hence this also connects Europe to Africa and Asia, including China.
Since the Bible teaches that it will be Europe that will dominate world trade, the BRI and Europe’s Global Gateway look to be ways that Europe will get access to markets in Asia and Africa. Roads work both ways. Furthermore, Europe has a long history of trading with Asia and Latin America and is biblically prophesied to continue to do so.
Consider that the Bible teaches the following about an end time European power:
2 … Babylon … 3 For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury. (Revelation 18:2,3)
The above is referring to the fact that nations of the world are prophesied to get wealthy trading with end time Babylon, which will be a European entity.
Back in 1971, the old Worldwide Church of God (WCG) published the following:
Momentous, historic events are transforming Western Europe. But most Americans are “asleep at the switch” to what is happening. It’s time for a self-centered America to wake up – before her allies become her enemies. Envision the startling future of Western Europe. A … union of perhaps 250 million people, surpassing both the United States and the Soviet Union in economic strength, possessing for the first time worldwide political power and influence. One news source recently called it an “enormous, physically powerful beast.” A new Western Europe controlling perhaps half of all world trade, by exclusive arrangements with dozens of nations who produce raw materials. A “United States of Europe” possessing one single currency – a currency so strong that it will replace the U. S. dollar as the kingpin currency of world trade. (Hogberg G. EUROPE’S COMMON MARKET RISING WORLD COLOSSUS. Plain Truth, 1971)
Now we all know that Europe has its own currency–a currency that some see as the logical replacement for the US dollar for world trade. Now, let me add that less than a decade after the above was published, the WCG publicly announced that Eastern Europe would also be part of this European power. And within a decade of that, Eastern European nations began to officially join in with what has become the European Union (more in Eastern Europe have also applied to become members of the EU). And, in population, the European Union already is actually much larger than that of the USA. The Global Gateway project and the EU’s support of the G20 connectivity goals are steps intended to help Europe rise up. And, yes, most Americans are “asleep at the switch” to what is happening.
Related to the ‘Global Gateway,’ the Continuing Church of God (CCOG) put together the following video on our Bible News Prophecy YouTube channel:

EU’s Global Gateway, Trade, and War?
The European Union announced that it planned to spend €300 billion ($340 billion) in a program called ‘Global Gateway.’ According to EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen it is a “true alternative” to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, also known as the Silk Road Project. Both the EU and Chinese projects will improve road, ports, and/or other infrastructure to connect with Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America. Will this result in increased trade for Europe and Asia during the time of the Gentiles? Will Babylonian Europe dominate trade for a time? Will devastating war hit Europe with Russian and Eurasian involvement? Would infrastructure these projects are involved in be used for war? What about preparation for Armageddon? Dr. Thiel address these issues and cites biblical prophecies related to these matters.
Here is a link to our video: EU’s Global Gateway, Trade, and War?
That said, while the USA supported and praised the new connectivity initiative from the G20, the connectivity does not really connect the USA.
The Chinese and Europeans are building infrastructure in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and Asia, like roads and ports. India is also involved.
This will facilitate trade, help set up for the gathering at Armageddon (watch Is China paving roads to Armageddon?), but also help the coming Beast power rise up and prosper.

[ad_1] Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has stressed that job creation is the most critical issue worldwide, particularly given the persistent economic challenges and rapid technological advancements reshaping the labour market.  Sitharaman highlighted the need for urgent action and a comprehensive analysis to address these issues, speaking on Thursday in the US at the plenary lunch during the discussion on “How Should the World Bank Shape Its Future Strategic Direction and Help Clients Create More Jobs to Keep Pace with Evolving Megatrends.”  The Finance Ministry, in an official statement, stated “In her intervention at the plenary lunch, FM Smt.@nsitharaman, while speaking on the topic “How Should the World Bank Shape Its Future Strategic Direction and Help Clients Create More Jobs to Keep Pace with Evolving Megatrends,” emphasised that jobs are the most pressing global issue, given the continued economic headwinds and rapid technological change that are redefining the skills required for youth to enter the job market”.  Sitharaman is on an official visit to the US from October 20 to 26 to participate in the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, the 4th G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors (FMCBG)  There have been meetings, including the G20 Joint Meeting of FMCBGs, Environment Ministers, Foreign Ministers, and the G7-Africa Ministerial Roundtable.  On Thursday, she pointed out that while the World Bank has previously conducted several studies on sectoral trends and their impact on employment–covering topics like “green jobs,” employment changes due to AI, and the effects of demographic shifts–there is now a pressing need for a broader, multi-sectoral approach. According to Sitharaman, an in-depth analysis examining the interplay of these emerging trends is crucial to understanding job losses and opportunities. She also emphasised that this analysis should factor in the impact of geopolitical shifts, such as the fragmentation affecting global supply chains, and how this influences critical sectors like food production, exports, and associated employment.  The Finance Minister also highlighted the importance of looking beyond the traditional manufacturing-led growth model. With technological changes driving rapid shifts in the needed jobs, she urged the World Bank to explore alternative growth strategies and the kinds of jobs they would generate. Sitharaman believes that identifying these new pathways will ensure sustainable economic development in the face of modern challenges.  Furthermore, she called on the World Bank to strengthen its collaboration with countries to pinpoint high-priority sectors for skill development. She also emphasised that these efforts should be grounded in thorough data analysis and knowledge-based approaches to enhance employment opportunities, align skills with market demand, and retain skilled labour.  The Finance Minister also stressed the importance of creating an outcome-focused roadmap with a clear implementation strategy. Such a roadmap, she said, would help ensure that the World Bank and its partner countries are well-prepared to meet the evolving demands of the global job market.  [ad_2] Source link
