He is wearing CAPRIS to work and either short socks that will fall down in boots or he's no-socking it. I do like his gloves tho bc they kind of make his hands look like paws. I think his suspenders are cute and they remind you that he is a hardworking young man.

I hate his pants they're ugly. Boring shoes but I suppose they are practical. I think the rest of his outfit looks very stylish and I appreciate how he's one of the few people who can pull off a bolo tie.

I'm not really a fan of the color of Kunikida's vest and pants and I think they wash him out a little. That being said, he does look very professional. I like the ribbon instead of a tie/bow tie, it adds a youthful touch to an otherwise mature looking outfit.

I love her outfit so much. Good color palette. The patterns at the bottom are pretty. Her hair accessories feel girlish in a way that contrasts nicely with the simplicity of the rest of her outfit.

LOOK AT HER!! Simple and professional outfit, but details like her hairclip and gloves keep it from being boring. The red of her heels adds a nice prop of color. Admittedly they aren't the most practical for her job but she looks great so I will let it slide.

I'm pretty neutral on his outfit. It's very simple and doesn't have much flare to it, but it looks comfortable and practical. He doesn't stand out at all, which actually would be helpful for detective stuff. The earrings are a nice touch. I wish he actually wore his hoodie more tho.

Flip flops are definitely not a practical choice for being a detective, especially one that regularly engages in combat. Idk how his poor feet aren't constantly covered in scrapes. And again with the capris. That being said, aside from his choice of shoes, this outfit looks both comfortable and easy to move in. I like his hat too and wish he wore it on his head more.

I really like the contrast of his white hair with his darker outfit. His outfit is simple and comfortable, making it pretty practical. He doesn't have too much in the way of detail or patterns but the gold border on his haori is a nice touch.

Lotad review if not done yet

Lotad's pretty fun, on the grounds of both being a lily pad creature and for having six legs for no real reason. The entire line's based off of the kappa, which is a amphibious yokai with a water dish on its head and a beak. Reinventing the water dish as a lily pad is clever, and it works as a secondary theme.

Visually, the triangles on the hat create a zig-zag pattern that's built upon as it evolves, and the yellow beak provides contrast. I do wish there was more contrast between the blue body and the lily pad—maybe a light green to match Lombre—but otherwise it's a fun little guy.

I also appreciate that Lotad very clearly has a single braincell pinging around in its head like a Windows screensaver.

Lombre is probably my favorite out of these guys. I just enjoy this thing's kind of sombre personality and habit of hiding in the water and scaring people—almost feels like it could've been part dark-type if it wasn't for the rest of the line.

There are a few elements that feel a bit extraneous in the design (such as the ear and the spikes on the hands and feet—maybe those are claws, but then why aren't they red?), but otherwise it comes together pretty well. The light and darker green have good contrast and allow the red accents to really pop, and the markings help to break up the body. I also really like the weird beak shape, which is more of a beak on top and a regular jaw on bottom, with a bit of a zig-zag to keep up with that visual element.

The only other thing I question is if the red parts would've made more sense in yellow, seeing as the red, while looking nice, does just randomly pop up in this stage and then abruptly disappear again. But otherwise yeah, this is a good middle stage with a distinct identity.

Ludicolo feels like a bit of an out of nowhere turn, as we suddenly went from a sombre prankster kappa to a strangely Mexican kappa monster with some vague fruit elements integrated into it. However, it is refreshing to get a final stage that's upbeat and super fun instead of the badass-type designs we usually get, and it does still continue the kappa and lily pad themes enough that it still fits with the line.

The design itself brings the zig-zag motif into full swing by giving it both zig-zags on its fur and on its hat, which is now vaguely sombrero-like. The fruit elements in the middle of the hat and the hands are a pretty interesting way to build on its grass-typing, and the colors work well together.

If there's one issue I have with it, it's that the fur feels a bit out of place—it's just a bit strange considering kappa are amphibious creatures and it's still part water-type. Also, while the green around the eyes helps draw attention to them, it does break up the flow of the design due to the triangles going sideways instead of down like all the other zig-zag elements. But that aside, Ludicolo's a pretty entertaining design that really works better than it probably has a right to.

Overall, some fun and funky kappas with some strong visual motifs.

Like… they had the SHIT kicked out of them by Reo, Zantsetzu and Nagi in their very first match by whopping 0:8!!! Then Niko clearly took precautions and developed a strategy only to get bodied AGAIN this time by Isagi AND the mf stands over him to rub it in. This would discourage anyone from playing but does this 15 year old dweeb with noodle limbs care? NO - he scores a fucking hat trick against BAROU in his very next game! Well, I'm forcing myself to watch the State of the Union while I grade speeches, so I figured I'd record my reactions and thoughts here.

Do I hope for the words "Immediate Ceasefire"? Absolutely. Will we get them? Looking at the track record, probably not. But I remain optimistic because otherwise I'd be six feet under by now; ANYWHO here is a list of my reactions/thoughts/general feelings of the evening's watch.

I do want to give a point of clarity: I technically am identified as a democrat; truly, I'm a socialist, but seeing as how the U.S. is stuck in this godforsaken two-party-system, that is where I am. Though both sides have me feeling very french-revolutionary-esque.

the opening vision we get when we enter the traveler... i ended up watching it multiple times (computer issues ;-;) but MAN was it cool the inside of the traveler in general looks super funky, im going to have to do a no hud run at some point just for screenshots. shoutout to bungie for giving us a sparkly pink rainbow subclass, just in time for pride month lol weapon unsunsetting means i get to pull all sorts of old friends out of the vault. (python, the vow, steelfeather repeater, perfect paradox, etc...) i'm pretty ambivalent abt cayde generally but they did a good job w/ his characterization. i was worried he'd end up being kind of grating but so far he's been okay i was (initially) delighted to see targe. i was not anticipating that they were introducing him just so they could kill him off 5 minutes later. i have mixed feelings on zavala's characterization but it's been a minute since i buried my face into the ishtar collective lore vault so maybe it's just my memory being unreliable. for him to just lose it and start acting irrationally like that felt odd. maybe it's bcs we havent seen him in a while? idk it just felt off. (tbf you could point out that it's probably a byproduct of being forced to relive one of the most unpleasant moments of his entire life so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ fear and desperation can make people do strange things) ikora was cool, idk she didn't read as ooc or anything to me, her reunion with cayde was very sweet, though in hindsight i wish they'd given her a little more to do. seasonal stuff has struggled to give consistency to crow but i appreciate this expansion's efforts to tie up some of those threads more neatly. (i lost it when he pulled out an iron battleaxe, i did not expect that plot point to get touched on!! also it was cool!) i am still irritated that they fridged amanda ( i ignored that part of canon so hard it kinda smacked me in the face when they mentioned her.) i love luzaku, and i would kill for luzaku. ( finally! friendly hive!) i did like the emphasis on ghost and guardian relationships throughout the expansion's story. (also ghost as the location vendor!!!! having regular chats with him while we go through the story!!! the fact he becomes increasingly damaged and wounded throughout the campaign giving me the distinct dread that he might die!!!)

the fact the traveler is letting out intermittent shrieks of pain... MAN... the return of the glowing bird as our guide! (also the fact that the grenade projectile for song of flame looks like a bird... i dont think they're actually connected but it is giving me Ideas.) speaking of song of flame, i kind of expected it to be more underwhelming than it is?? it's actually pretty fun! prismatic is a lot of fun to mess around with! nothing like throwing a storm grenade at an enemy to simultaneously proc devour and amplify. the speaker mask exotic is also giving me Ideas >:) i lost my shit when they mentioned Micah-10. she's one of the last lore characters i expected them to pull out of the hat but i am delighted to see her in game, and seemingly as more than just a cameo too, as far as i can tell. pretty ambivalent abt the whole "player character is the most powertful being in the universe and the chosen one" thing. it's kinda where i figured they'd take it and i dont hate the trope so eh whatever. im glad they actually gave me cover for some of these story missions. i did not super enjoy lightfall's strategy of throwing me in a room with one million guys and a few tiny scraps of cover. ( the radial mast double tank fight... *shudders* ) difficulty wise legendary wasn't all that painful, there were a few fights i struggled with, but a change of loadout, or a little trial and error was pretty much all i needed. i def understand why they've saved the witness fight for the raid, but if my raiding history is anything to got by im certainly not doing day one, but that doesn't mean ill never touch it. (ive missed most of the newer raids, im just not that much of a people person.) ill try and take some day 1 screenshots of the opening area at least. also wrt post campaign!! i loved playing projectile tennis with savathun. all the two queens stuff was great tbh sav is such a fun villian. like yes!! you do owe us nothing and are only going to swoop in to help us bcs we have a bigger threat to deal with!! we can go back to trying to outscheme eachother once this is over!! ( also hey, they brought back adventures! i thought they'd never do that!) also what ive played of the crode camping trip (i forgot the mission name) has been fun. just me and the bois, out exploding screebs. ( then the game crashed so i guess i gotta go play that again lmao) overall i think this expansion is pretty good! i havent even gotten to the seasonal stuff yet, much less some of the regular patrol stuff for the pale heart.

the creative use of language

Earlier today I went to the botanical garden with my language tandem partner, which was wonderful. And I had so many thoughts which I do want to ramble about, however I am currently typing with the new keyboard layout so it’s really slow going. (You can see it in the use of curly quotes though, I’m so happy!) This puts a bit of a damper on my usual ability to just gush, but it’s actually an interesting experience. (With proper training I’m going to be such a menace though!)

So… we always talk a lot about how to say all sorts of things in our respective languages, albeit on different levels because her German is pretty solid whereas my grasp of Turkish is tenuous at best. And I often find myself saying “well it’s not wrong but nobody says it like that” but also “well I would probably say it like this”, and really this is where language gets interesting! Stuff that’s grammatically correct but “you don’t say it like that”.

And I realised a couple of things. Firstly, that I often use odd turns of phrases in my mother tongue (which is German), and that the people I regularly talk to are all folks who appreciate that and happily join me in making up fun new words or outrageous plural forms – remember the memorandibles? It’s memorandibles all the way down with me. Funky language nonsense galore. And I mean, what is even the point of language if you don’t use it creatively?

Secondly, I seem to do that in Turkish a lot too, but for different reasons. My friend often says “I understood you but that’s not how you say it”. For example we were looking around the greenhouse with the useful plants, those have a lot of extra informational signs along with their labels, but one of them didn’t. So I said “hiç harf yok” because those were the words at my disposal, and she laughed and started to explain the difference between yazı and metin, along with how a normal person would say “there’s no sign”.

But the thing is. I wouldn’t have said that in German either. I wanted to express my disappointment that there were no letters. It is specifically the shape of letters, those little glyphs that whisper to me. I am addicted to these traces of writing! I can‘t walk past a bunch of letters without wanting to read them.

Also I’m realizing that I need to step carefully about outdoorsy topics (and that REI is slightly triggering)

So imagine: friend goes “we should hike clear lake next weekend!!” and I’m googling and just awed by the pics I’m seeing, and it’s a five mile walk, basically, with well maintained trails and virtually no elevation gain, and she’s also like “AND hopefully Other Friend can come too, because she’s so fun to hike with” and I’m like oh hell yeah that would be GREAT

And so given that I think well, next weekend is actually the last weekend I’ll spend with scone on zoom, which will actually free up a lot of exploring-nature time, and I’ve kinda wanted to get back into hiking (just chill ones, though. I’m not talking about camping. Still don’t want to go camping when I have a perfectly good house at home.), and everyone always prattles on about Oregon’s natural beauty, blah blah blah, and actually scone also likes going on hikes but is even less experienced than I am (because he didn’t have a dad who would rather just turn into a moose and live in Yellowstone, or a mom who took her toddler on long hikes, and camping, and whatever, until I decided that I’d had enough of having to either pee all over my shoes or use those massive scary permanent port-a-potties)…

…so I was like you know what. This could be a fun new hobby to do. You pack water. You pack snacks. You pack a first aid kit and a compass and some sunscreen and a hat and you’re good to go!

It would be nice if I had something smaller than my normal backpack and more useful for hikes than my cross-body purse though. So idk REI always has sales, I should see what’s going on. Oh they have a nice SMALL daypack for much less than I was expecting, this is perfect, I’m going to get it.

And then because I wanted it in my hot little hands right that second, I went down to the local REI and also looked around, because sometimes it’s fun to do that

No, it turns out that I have absorbed as part of the experience of my mom dying that she started dying WHILE GODDAMN CAMPING and camping was a huge part of her life and then became a huge part of her life again with her new partner; she had a ton of outdoors equipment and loved REI; she would do multi-day bike races for charity across mountains; she would report to me that the basically camping MREs weren’t so bad, actually!; etc etc etc

Now also, there’s q, who I dated for YEARS and ended up being emotionally and sexually abusive and whose name I curse every time I feel broken about sex (which is a lot). HE was also very outdoorsy, worked in americorps during hurricane sandy, loved jeeping, camping, hiking, you name it; he eventually took a job working for saguaro national park where he’d leave the house at 3:30 AM and spray for buffelgrass and other invasive plants; he’s now doing some other kind of naturalist work outside of Austin and is married to a Texas state congressperson (who he met in Tucson and cheated on me with and HAPPILY and freely admitted that at the time, so of course I was the coldhearted bitch who kept him from being happy when I told him no, I did not appreciate that and I did not want to have an open relationship so he could continue dating her) (no I’m not still traumatized YOURE still traumatized)

HIS favorite store was ALSO REI and would regularly come back with buffs and sun shirts and whatever fun new gadgets he could find; he was SO GODDAMN ANNOYING to walk around the store with because ugh Shiloh you don’t even like being outside why would you need any of this, are you actually going to USE it (derogatory, not helpful)

So maybe this is what’s making my brain Funky and Off. I mean it’s been happening longer than just like Thursday afternoon, when my friend called and was like “let’s go hiking!”, but still. This doesn’t help. I keep poking at it like a bruise. This is part of the reason I think that emotionally immature parents video got to me, because I already had mom on the mind.

It’s just fucked all the way around.

But at least now I have tentative plans to go hiking next weekend AND I have a very cute purple backpack to hold my water and snacks. So. You know.

Have you reviewed mr rime? He’s one of my fav regional evos; makes mr mime into a cute lil guy

As a certified Mr. Mime enjoyer(TM), I'm a huge fan of Mr. Rime. "Mr. Mime evo that becomes Charlie Chaplin" is simply something I never knew I needed in my life but I'm so glad we got.

Thematically, going from Galarian Mr. Mime's tap-dancer theme to Charlie Chaplin's Tramp character makes logical sense. You could argue over whether or not this being a regional evo was necessary, but in this case I think the theme and the ice-based cane and shoes justify it enough, even if it's a shame that regular Mr. Mime gets left in the dust a bit. (Also side note: shoutout to whoever on the translation team came up with the "Mr. Rime" pun.)

The second face is appropriately silly (and likely is based off of the haradashi yokai, which also changes and has a face on its stomach). One of my favorite things about Mr. Rime is that the second face isn't just markings—the eyes on its stomach blink, as well as change expression. It's so bizarre that I can't help but love it.

And design-wise, this lad is delightful. The little mustache's shape is paralleled by the hair on the head, which also references the same hair G. Mr. Mime sports. Likewise, the shape of the "tux" parallels similar markings on G. Mr. Mime, and ties back into its icy, well, tie. The triangle nose becomes the mustache, and I think it's neat that the "hat" basically just covers its bald spot. It basically has its own unique design, but there's enough there to see how it continues from G. Mr. Mime.

The yellow spots draw attention to the two sets of eyes, while the red helps draw attention to the second face specifically. There's a good blend of blue, dark bluish purple, and light blue found in the rest of the design as well. I also appreciate the ice cane and shoes, as it works as a visual indication of the new typing that wouldn't be clear otherwise. The vaudevillian aspects are obvious, and this guy just oozes personality, even when not animated.

Overall, this is a 10/10 for me. Great concept, ties back into the pre-evo both thematically and visually, and has a ton of personality. You guy, funky little man.

The party sucked, in Tumblrs opinion, but that wasn't surprising. shed tried to intermingle for a bit only to get immediately put off when someone unironically tried to talk about the weather. Well, that wasn't exactly true- weather was one of her favourite subjects. but when she brought up how the weather was only going to get more extreme from climate change, the conversation abruptly ended like it always did. whatever. 

The chips and dip were pretty damn good though, and when no one was looking Tumblr stole a bowl's worth. 

shed been invited by Reddit- it was his lame ass party- because he wanted her to meet his new girlfriend. but that's not why she came. 

Tumblr showed up because Reddit had mentioned some months ago getting a new dog, so after brief intermingling and snack stealing she went room to room to search for the pupper in question. 

The corgi is found in a bedroom, and immediately Tumblr drops to her knees to let it sniff her hand. once satisfied with her scent, it flopped onto its stomach. 

She was so blesséd…

Within a few minutes the dog was in her lap while she was giving it tummy pats, truly in a place as close to heaven as Earth could get, when the door opened. 

Tumblr glared over at the open door to find Reddits roommate. He blinked at her in surprise. 

"fuck off," she tells him unkindly, patting the dog as she spoke. "this is dog pat town now, and you don't have a passport."

Wikipedia pauses at the door for a moment. "I don't need a passport for municipal interstate travel," he counters. 

even though he's interrupting her precious dog petting time, Tumblr can appreciate that he was playing along, so she sat up a little straighter as she addressed him. "well, this is a sovereign city state. like the Vatican." 

"guess that makes you the pope." 

Pope. That was a title Tumblr could get used to. She liked the masculinity associated with the title. Her gender was funky like that. "Pope of patting," she confirmed. 

All she needed was one of those big old pope hats. but one hand full of corgi and the other full of dip was just as holy. 

"Alright," she agreed finally, holding out a hand. "Kiss the ring motherfucker, and I'll let you stay." 

Wikipedia laughed at that, dramatically kneeling before her and taking her hand to kiss one of her many rings. She liked jewelry. if she was a little more drunk she probably would've liked him, instead of just tolerating him as they patted the unnamed corgi together in silence. 

"Wiki!" Tumblr announced suddenly. 

"It's Pedia." 

"Get this dog some cheese, Wiki!"

Wikipedia rolled his eyes but got up back up. Once the door closed behind him, Tumblr let out a breath. 

She addressed the dog in her lap, who was looking up at her with the Most adorable face. "don't speak," she reassured it. "you don't have to say it- we both hate Wiki." 

Tumblr shook her head disapprovingly. "Firefox damn it." she began counting on her fingers. "he pats too hard, he pats too fast… he burned my crops!" he did not do that last one, but she wasn't going to wait around until he did. 

Tumblr was the Pope of Patting Dog. Even Wiki could see that. he was just trying to take over the pope show. 

Before she could make a proper plan of what to do with him, the door reopened, bringing with it the scent of cheese. Despite all their preparation, the dog's tail still wagged as Wiki kneeled down beside them. 

"y'know," Wiki began to make idle conversation, and Tumblr was already annoyed. "The Vatican has no immigration." 

"huh?" Tumblr asked, despite herself. 

"No passport necessary," he continued. 

Tumblr's face fell. "fuck. now my pope metaphor… sucks." 

Wikipedia nodded distractedly. "The Vatican has an open border policy with the rest of Italy, actually." 

but… Tumblr could feel her Pope title falling through her fingers. 

she watched, a little emptier inside, as the dog finished licking the cheese off of Wikis fingers. 

"Why are you here?" Tumblr snapped finally. 

"It's, my bedroom?" 

excuses. after careful thought, Tumblr had come to the conclusion that she would not be told off by fucking Wiki. "get out!" she gestured him away impatiently. "out!" 

Wikipedia reluctantly let himself be herded out of his room, and Tumblr slammed the door shut behind him. 

Tumblr most certainly did not show up to get lectured by some encyclopedia. she turned her attention back to the corgi, looking up at her and wagging its tail so hard it's entire butt was shaking. it was what had brought her here, and she sat back down to resume petting.

She uses she/her pronouns and is a trans lesbian. She has a very negative outlook on life and always speculates the worst case scenario in every situation. She can often be seen sighing and complaining about lots of stuff.

Apathy Smurf

He uses he/him pronouns but doesn't really care if he's referred with other ones. He's unlabled. Like his name suggests, he feels little next to nothing. He has a similar backstory to Grouchy: but instead of being bit by a buzz fly, he was put under the spell of Chlorhydis' ice wand and wasn't able to fully recover from it. There's a chance he may have has a crush for Grouchy, but he feels too little to be able to tell. When asked an opinion, he often replies with "I don't really care". His stoic behavior makes him seem rude, but he's actually a docile individual that usually does what he's asked to do without question.

Language Smurf

He uses he/him pronouns and is aroace. He is quite literally the living representation of the smurf language, hence his name,,,although only Papa Smurf knows about that. He's a crossover OC (Smurfs + Prolangs). He's also besties with Poet Smurf weheheh.

The flowers on his hat are hyacinths, to contrast Vanity's daisy (daisies represent innocence and cheerfulness whereas hyacinths represent sadness and grief). His personality is mostly opposite to Vanity's, therefore he's mostly extremely modest, perhaps even slightly insecure.
