“Hey’ kaashi, do you think we would’ve met no matter what?”

Akaashi blinks, glancing at his boyfriend behind him. They’re sitting chest to back on Bokuto’s bed, absently watching some dumb video on his phone. “Huh?”

“Do you think us meeting was inevitable?” Bokuto hums. “Wait… did I use that word right?”

“You did.” Akaashi nods. “But what do you mean?”

“Like, if you hadn’t come to Fukurodani. If you’d never seen me that day, or even if you did, you were convinced by your family to go somewhere else. Would we have…?”

Oh. Akaashi swallows, unsure of what to say. It isn’t uncommon for Bokuto to start up random conversations like this. But usually, they’re about inconsequential things, such as if jellyfish had feelings or something inane like that.

More serious, even philosophical questions like this were rare (though not unheard of).

“Babe?”

Akaashi hums. “That’s an interesting query to ponder, Bokuto-san.”

Bokuto raises one eyebrow. He silently mouths “query,” trying out the word, but allows Akaashi to continue.

“But I can’t deny, I’ve wondered that too.”

“Oh!” Bokuto nods rapidly. “Yeah, it seems so weird to imagine! You and me, never being classmates at Fukurodani? Never playing volleyball together? Where else could it have happened?”

He seems almost distraught. And Akaashi can’t blame him—it’s nerve-racking, imagining what might’ve been, if something had prevented them from meeting.

Akaashi sometimes have to pinch himself to believe that the life he has now is real. Here is is, studying literature at his first choice of university, starting setter for his volleyball team (again), plus dating THE Bokuto Koutarou??

It’s insane, really. Fifteen year old Keiji would never believe it.

“I don’t know,” he admits finally. He feels Bokuto’s body sag at the words. The man huffs, burrowing his nose into the side of Akaashi’s neck.

“Oh. Yeah, me neither…” Bokuto’s voice is almost a whine, but there’s a sad quality to it that pierces through Akaashi’s heart. Bokuto might not let his emotions control him so much anymore, but he still feels so openly, so intensely.

Akaashi sighs and shifts in place, turning to throw his long legs over Bokuto’s lap. He snuggles into the other’s warm, solid embrace. “Bokuto-san.”

“Mhm?” The man’s arms tighten around him.

“It… doesn’t matter.” His hands, a bit shaky, reach to cup to his boyfriend’s jaw delicately. “We don’t need to look back. We’re here now. Together.”

They’re both silent for a moment. The video on Bokuto’s phone has ended, and only the sound of a distant passing train and a few voices on the streets below can be heard. Akaashi feels a bit squirmy under his boyfriend’s fierce gaze, but he holds it, determined to soothe his worries.

Eventually, Bokuto lets out a long, contended sigh. His eyes soften and his lips quirk into a lopsided grin. “Yeah,” he breathes,  “We are.”

wasteland, baby!

The apartment looks like a tornado ran through it. 

The kitchen has pots and pans all over and half of them are burned from last nights failed-attempt at dinner. Bokuto swears he didn’t have the fire too high, but you know he did. But after he flashed those pleading puppy dog eyes at you, how could you be mad? You couldn’t, so instead you called for takeout.

Hence the boxes sprawled across the living room. He wouldn’t let you pick up even one as he picked you up, carried you to the bedroom.

Which is no better in terms of cleanliness by the way. There’s what was supposed to be clean laundry on the floor, pushed off to make for… activities. Half of the covers are thrown off toward the foot of the bed as Bokuto runs hot. But still his, arms are wrapped firmly around your waist and his head is planted into the crook of your neck. 

The apartment is in chaos but in the center of it all, is him. Untouched, unphased, and his hold on you unbroken. You turn toward him, snuggling closer and he softly hums to himself. 

“It’s a wasteland out there, baby,” you whisper. 

He smiles. “I love you.”

You smile too. “I love you.”

But Bokuto doesn’t respond, already fast asleep.

Some headcanons for Haikyuu, starting off with our famed pairings (platonic or romantic, whatever you make of it) @crazyyanderefangirlfan this is for you 🌼

Fukurodani 🦉

Bokuto: This man can cook 3 star Michelin worthy dishes. He'd actually be able to point out the ingredients of a dish he has tasted for the first time. Food is all he'd talk about with Samu having forgotten Tsumu's existence when the Jackals hang out at Onigiri Miya.

Akaashi: we all know he's an intellectual lad, and sometimes the cogs of the brain just get stuck from time to time. To relax, he'd play the piano. A habit he's carried forward from childhood. I'd like to think his family owned a classic Bechstein at home. Just imagine his hands delicately tickle the ivories on a decades old piano.

Karasuno 🐦‍⬛

Kageyama: is a philanthropist. He donates a portion of his earnings as a pro-player and volunteers whenever he can. You'd see his photos feeding the less fortunate and teaching them volleyball circulate online but he'd never post it himself. A fine humble gentleman.

Hinata: he won't be a sunshine baby if his energy isn't as bright as his orange hair. He's as sweet as chocolate and warm as the sun. (He inspired Kags to do volunteer work) He'd collect trinkets like shells, fallen leaves, etc. He's definitely a boarding pass collector (think train passes, planes ferries etc)

Shiratorizawa 🦅

Ushijima: speaking of collecting, Mr. You-shouldve-come-to-shiratorizawa is an avid collector of sailing ship miniatures. The moment you enter his home you'll see his treasured collection right away, his largest ship hanging from the high ceiling of his living room. Even his gym space would have those wooden ships displayed on the wall.

Tendou: Okay, so he would've learned to speak French, and living in a country in Europe would've presented him many opportunities to tour around the continent. Of course, he'd have developed many friendships with the locals. (Hence why his chocolates sell out fast because his shop would be their first visit in France) I also bet you Ushi's ship collection that Tendo learned silly and cursed words in 200 different dialects in cursive Satori way.

Seijoh 🌿

Iwaizumi: The man could sing. He's someone who would write songs about his crush, an absolute romantic. He could play the guitar. He's a can-do-it-all, you'll-never-find-another type of man.

Oikawa: has dimples on both cheeks. One side is deeper, and the side that's shallower only shows when he grins happily. Also, he could dance. Elegantly. Not hip-hop dance but waltz. And I say this again. Bachata.

Nekoma 🐈

Kuroo: you think Oikawa is a flirt? This man is a male version of a clever minx. A smooth talker I say. He'd use his body stature and looks but still in respectful way. A clingy baby for sure

Kenma: I think this is a worldwide headcanon we can all agree on. He'd be a "sugardaddy." Not in an immoral way, but this man will buy you anything. You say in passing that a famed 5 star spa resort in Switzerland is pretty cool. Next thing you know, you're in his private jet flying over the Swiss alps.

HAIKYUU SEXUALITY HEADCANONS

🦉 Fukurodani Edition 🦉

Washio Tatsuki: Gay. When I first sat down and decided to give most of these characters a sexuality headcanon, I saw him and my first thought was "yeah there is no way he is into women." So I cannot for the life of me see him as anything other than a functional gay man. He definitely thinks Konoha and Akaashi are very pretty. Also thinks that Inarizaki's #2 middle blocker is very handsome.

Sarukui Yamoto: Bisexual with a female preference. I honestly really ship him with Shirofuku and I have no idea why. I just went "they are totally dating" one day and it's kind of just stuck. But I can also see him getting together with Komi or even just another boy (on his team or not) in general. He's a bit of a bi disaster sometimes but he's mostly functioning. Totally refers to Shirofuku as his wife later in their relationship.

Bokuto Koutarou: Pansexual. Now I know what you're all probably thinking. And I'm not gonna lie and say you aren't right, but you're only half right. I can see Bokuto having the ability to love someone SO much. He loves anyone and everyone. Obviously has a thing for Akaashi but also thinks Konoha is very pretty and handsome. Thought Shirofuku was very beautiful when he saw her for the first time. Total b(romance) with Kuroo.

Akaashi Keiji: Pansexual. I am quite unsure why I think this label fits him so well. Obviously he has an thing for Bokuto, but I can also see him falling in love with Ennoshita or Konoha. Thinks Suzumeda is very pretty as a female and could see himself dating her if he felt any attraction towards her. He's still a bit unsure of his identity, but he likes the label pansexual so he sticks with it despite what anyone else says.

Konoha Akinori: Bisexual with no preference. So I sort of saw him as gay when I first started making headcanon lists. Then I started seeing the potential of him with girls and decided he would be bisexual. Now he has had crushes on every single one of his teammates, cause he just loves easily like that, but Washio, Komi and Akaashi are the only ones still going strong. Thinks the managers are too pretty for this world. Also thinks that Kai is very very handsome and that he wouldn't mind kissing him–

Onaga Wataru: Panromantic Asexual. Now he gives me the vibe of a sex repulsed asexual. He's still a bit nervous about the label though because it's all very new to him. Romantically, I can see him be interested in everyone on the team at least once. Definitely nursed a puppy crush on Bokuto during his first few months as a first year. Thinks Akaashi is very pretty (like everyone else though for real). He thinks Washio is so goddamn handsome it is not even funny, like holy shit please praise his blocks more–

Komi Haruki: Pansexual. Can and will hit on anything that doesn't say no. He's always on the lookout for somebody to love. Has the tiniest little crush on Konoha. Appreciates the fact that both Washio and Bokuto can bench press him with those tree trunks they have for arms. Thinks Onaga is cute but like in a boyish way. Probably had a puppy crush on Suzumeda in their first year after he saw her giggle at something stupid Bokuto did.

Suzumeda Kaori: Straight Asexual. Now contrary to what the rest of the fandom headcanons her as, I just cannot see her crushing on any girls. I also see her as sex repulsed like Onaga, hence her joking with the team about how her and Onaga are the team's "real aces". She's very supportive of her teammates and will punch someone out if they give her team any trouble.

Shirofuku Yukie: Straight. Now I would be lying if I said shipping her with Sarukui had nothing to do with if, but similarly to Suzumeda I just cannot see her being interested in other girls at all. She's very comfortable with herself and her identity and is very supportive of the rest of the team. She does think Bokuto is cute, but in a "not attracted to you" kind of way. Probably dated a boy or two in junior high before Sarukui.

#haikyuubookclubweek10 - the "real" little giant!!

I'm so glad akaashi's got bokuto by his side!! get you a man who makes you smile like that immediately after crying your eyes out during a breakdown 👍👍 when will I ever not be emotional about these two...

alright moving on... three little giants!! they (and their designs lol) are all so different from each other but the love they have for the game is the same, no matter if they're actively playing or not. (for an excellent in-depth commentary/analysis on this please take a look at @ghostbkg post for this week's book club)

these two moments might be my favourite this week. kageyama's just minding his business but hinata can't help bringing up their rivalry hahaha 😂 and his classmates trying to catch a glimpse of him in the crowd only for the tv to display a close-up of his face at that exact moment 😂😂 the height of comedy!!

I know this is kinda annoying that I kept talking about underrated characters who was barely known in Haikyuu, but LISTEN!!

I had Onaga and Anahori (the 1st year bby owls 🦉) In my head ALL day and I just cannot stop!! But here we are... 😔 Not only them, but the entirely Fukurodani teams has making me fall hard I even almost forget I still had my love for Shiratorizawa 🥲 Like SERIOUSLY those two underrated characters deserves more love 💗

Also I planned to make a full fic about them in a poly relationship with female y/n. It's a college au and their relationship started from High School, so like... Yeah! Haven't deciding the title right now because I had exam this week, but since there is barely any fic about them I know it'll be really rare to find ppl who love Onaga and Anahori 🥲 IT'S SO AMAZING IN MY HEAD AND I WANT TO WRITE IT BECAUSE IT'S SO FLUFFY AF!!!

(Haven't deciding there will be smut in the fic but 99% it'll had 1-2 scene. Since it's a college au and they're all grown up teens. But who knows??)

😔 Also don't mind me I was fighting for my dear life finishing my exam with good grades and then can do the writings 😩

Little spoilers that it's all about the reader trying to forget her toxic ex, and both boys are her best friend since early 1st year. And... You can imagine what happened after that ;)

Timeskip BokuAka showing up at a Tokyo hs volleyball tournament and causing a huge scene. 

The famous Bokuto Koutarou, Olympian and media darling, and his longtime partner Akaashi Keiji, who is well-known in his own right as one of the best setters Fukurodani Volleyball Club ever had. 

(The coaches talk about them a lot LOL)

Bokuto and Akaashi come decked out in Fukurodani merchandise—complete with matching owl-themed hats. Both of them purchase a pair of inflatable cheering sticks, slamming them together enthusiastically during the games.

In fact, their cheering is so loud that Yamiji has to text them and tell them to chill out a bit—they’re overpowering the school’s official cheering squad.

After the boys and girls final games (neither win the tournament, but they both come close), Bokuto and Akaashi make it a point to talk to each team. They tell them to not let this one loss discourage them. To just move forward.

They express how proud they are of them, for carrying on the school’s legacy.

A number of students request Bokuto’s autograph and to take photos; of course he obliges. Meanwhile, Akaashi is approached by the girl’s team captain, who asks his advice on setter dump techniques.

Eventually, the pair heads out towards the train station. For a while they’re both silent, just walking hand-in-hand, reflecting on the day. 

And then Bokuto speaks. His voice is a bit strained from all the cheering, but clear and strong.  

“Sometimes I miss it,” he says. Akaashi turns to look at his boyfriend. The streetlights above are giving Bokuto a sort of halo. He glows like a star.

“Fukurodani will always be the best,” he continues. “No matter how many amazing teams I’m on, wherever else I go… that time was so special.”

Akaashi hums in agreement, but Bokuto isn’t quite finished.

“That team helped me learn to love volleyball,” he says, and then squeezes Akaashi’s hand firmly. “And… it’s where I met you.”

Smiling, Akaashi leans into the other man. He lets out a long, blissful sigh. “Yeah. It was pretty amazing…”

He smiles lovingly at your cute little yawn as he wraps you up in your towel. Maybe the hot tub can wait for another night. It has been such a busy couple of days. And you two still have dinner and he’s sure they’ll be some form of visiting with Sho’s family when they get here. But, that can all be played by ear.

The two of you slowly pull on clothes. Exchanging lazy, slow kisses, making the process take twice as long. And before you know it, the doorbell is ringing with your dinner.

Even though I have an entire wardrobe of my own clothes here, I still prefer his to mine. I pull on that old Fukurodani sweatshirt that he let me wear on our first date. It brings back such fond memories of how far we’ve come and makes that time seem like a lifetime ago. The two of us head onward the door and before we’re even out of the doorway, I jump on his back and wrap my legs around his waist. He catches me so easily, even if he wasn’t expecting it.

He gets us both down the stairs without any mishaps and with a whole lot of giggling. We answer the door, exactly like this. I grab the food with my free hand and close it with my elbow once we tell the delivery driver thanks!

Once we’re back in the kitchen, he sets me, and the food down. I quickly put all of Sho’s food in the fridge and all of our fro-yo in the freezer. Despite my protests to eat dessert first.
