Achilles: So I like him as a character not a person. I think his story and arc is very intriguing but like. he killed and mutilated a child. In the kid’s dad’s temple. like. Much as I find his arc about shifting between divine and beast and ultimately realizing he’s human and cannot reject society interesting af I just cannot like him

Apollo: I won’t dump here cuz you all know about that already. I really enjoyed seeing a darker, more divine aspect of Apollo. Really changed my perspective on him (which is an essay in of itself) and appreciate him a lot more and see him as more nuanced and complex

Artemis: We didn’t see much of her! But I can’t believe she got bitch slapped by Hera

Leto: So badass omfg

Hermes: Really pleasantly surprised by how kind he was to Priam. Loved seeing him as the “kind god”

Zeus: I’ve softened to him and really like to see how his position as a king makes him have to take harsh decisions. Fate makes me wonder how much control he really has

Hera: Badassssss. I really loved seeing her so manipulative and clever, it was really fun

Ares: I hate how Homer wrote him! Made him seem so pathetic and had everyone bully him

So I took notes through my first read through of ntn each time I felt a Strong Emotion™ so here is what my experience was like:

I think it's Gideon in harrows body

Omg poor cam and palamedes not being able to see each other or talk or anything!

Poor cam & palamedes having to basically be parents to their amnesiac friend. They love Harrow & Gideon so much they're caring for Nona like a child when she's their age, they were peers, allies, but they are so tender with her it's heartbreaking

She is so innocent and they are all in so much pain but they won't break that illusion even though she's someone they once could've confided in & relied on oh goooddddddddd

"Salt water made her feel as though, if there was someone in there with her, she would suddenly know the words to tell them everything." -screaming, crying, throwing up, etc. (Edit: tamsyn didn't have to do this to me. She wrote that line KNOWING I would never be ok again after reading it)

FUCKING cam & palamedes coming together to save Nona and almost dying but FUCKING CAM says "it was good, WE WERE HAPPY" ?!?!?!???!?!! Like, the only real reason Hollywood still whitewasheds and isn't as progressive as it should be is entirely because minority led films haven't "proven" themselves yet Sweet Sweetback's Badassssss Song started the blaxploitation genre because it was a massive success and said to all the studios that refused to fund and distribute it "hey we can make money off of black audiences". This isn't to say blaxploitation isn't without its flaws (because geeeez) but it made a statement. If you want queer love stories, find independent cinema and support it. If you want POC led action movies, support independent cinema. If you want literally anything different than what Hollywood is churning out, SUPPORT INDEPENDENT CINEMA. This is a business and money is the only language that producers understand. Sequels and remakes get made because the original was a proven moneymaker, and people will see things based on name recognition. You, as the consumer, need to prove otherwise. Boycotting most Hollywood films will not work because of their "creative accounting". The biggest statement you can make on the things you want to see is supporting (or, fuck, making your own) films that feature the things you want to see.
