they  didn't  pack  the  right  crystals  for  this.  aquamarine  for  clarity,  clear  quartz  for  energy,  red  aventurine  for  new  opportunities,  sodalite  for  insight,  and  amethyst  for  self  connection:  there  wasn't  a  single  crystal  in  the  pouch  looped  through  their  belt  buckle  that  prepared  them  to  run  into  paige  yoon.  there  might  not  have  been  one  in  existence.  the  other  girl  was  a  forest  fire:  easy  to  spot  form  a  distance,  spreading  rapidly,  and  leaving  luna  scorched  before  they  could  even  turn  to  run.  she  hardly  had  time  to  smell  the  warning  smoke  before  she'd  been  engulfed.  luna  had  spotted  her  first;  her  bright  hair  was  hard  to  miss  against  the  white  walls  of  the  store  they  were  in.  instinctively,  luna  ducked  down  between  the  racks.  they  hoped  if  they  stayed  low  enough  they  could  make  it  to  the  door  without  being  noticed. graceful  as  they  were  on  stage,  however,  it  didn't  transfer  when  she  was  off.  just  as  they  were  passing  paige  they  lost  their  footing,  colliding  into  a  display  of  purses,  jewelry,  and  shoes.  the  merchandise  spreading  across  the  floor  in  front  of  them  as  they  scrambled  to  get  back  to  their  feet.  ❝  got  'em  !  ❞  they  announced  to  the  budding  crowd,  popping  up  with  a  random  pair  of  earrings  (  more  suited  for  an  eight  year  old  than  a  twenty-three  year  old  )  and  a  momentary  bum  knee.  ❝  who  knew  snagging  a  boba  set  would  be  so  hard  right  ?  ❞  the  laughter  was  forced,  and  they  tried  to  ignore  the  urge  to  peak  over  at  paige:  they  failed.  ❝  oh,  hey  you.  didn't  see  you  there.  ❞  she  could  play  it  cool,  they  were  playing  it  cool.  ❝  if  you  just  wanna...━━  walk  around  the  mess,  i  hope  you  have  a  phantasmic  day.  ❞
