Who: Gen & Kira event - summer music festival. He was fine. That was Emiliano's story and he was sticking to it, and the sunbaked effects of alcohol on him helped him feel it too. That, and, of course - his current company. Music was a constant as the day dwindled, floating through the air intermingled with the whoops and hollers of fans in the crowd and idle chatter. His arm was slung around Gen's shoulders swaying, and the trio was likely giving one another a run for their money in terms of who might be the most toasted. "Oh, no - I'm not allowed to sing along," Emil laughed "I have no idea who Tanner Adell even is." He admitted and openly cringed, waiting for both of his friends to potentially give him the side-eye. He swayed and bumped his hip with Gen's, and tossed Kira an over-confident wink, "-but that doesn't stop me from dancin' around like an idiot." ( @genortiz )

"Maybe..." Emil admitted as a heavy feeling sat in his chest thinking of Alara. She didn't feel like a stranger, though a part of him admittedly wished that she did. It'd be easier then, he thought. "I jus'... would hate for you to keep carrying this like it's only yours to burden." It wasn't. He'd remain firm in that opinion. His arm tightened around her shoulders in an affectionate squeeze, "Ah-ah. No. No apologizing." Emil lightheartedly scolded, "I asked, I wanted to hear. It's our sharing time." The man slowly eased back from their friendly embrace to glare accusingly at his now empty drink glass. Light blue hues scanned the bar for their waiter, and he waited for a good moment to signal them over to the table. "We can do shots. Jus' don't think that means you're escaping my promise of the dance floor."

Although she appreciated all sides of her friend's personality, moments like this reminded Genesis what she truly loved about Emil. Between him and Kira, she was never without support, feeling their love even within her darkest moments. "It's just... there have been so many years between then and now. I probably feel like a stranger to him."

With a mournful sigh, Genesis leaned into Emil's embrace, her head resting against his shoulder before she finally nodded in agreement. "You're right. I appreciate you, and I'm sorry for dampening the mood. I'm sure a round of shots could fix us both right about now," she added with a laugh.

It felt like the aftermath of the storm was finally settling. A calm was returning to the town. Well, everywhere except for the Ortiz home. They were in the middle of a highly contested game of twister, as the Flynn's and Ortiz's had a play date. Avie was teamed with Gen, and as Callum glanced at his daughter, he could tell from the smirk that she was cheating, but he couldn't move to check. Instead, he glared at her. "Right, you cheater. Where's my next move?" He chuckled.

Of course, it happened to be the right arm on blue, which meant the furthest stretch across the board and through Gen's legs. Callum turned to face Gen, trying to hide his laughter. "Uh -- do you mind if I just get my arm through there..." The man's cheeks flushed, mentally prepared to blame it on exertion from the game and not the fact their bodies were about to be entwined. He squatted down to keep his feet on the correct spots, then stretched his long arm to green. The back of his head rested on her butt to steady himself. Callum would have given her a gentle nudge if she were anyone else, hoping she would fall over, but instead, he sat there sweating it out. He couldn't cheat on her, especially when his daughter was working so hard for her to win. "Do you ever feel like you're being ganged up on?" He asked Gen as he heard the evil cackles of two kids wanting to torture their parents.

Since the very second the hurricane warning had been issued, Cameron had had one thought nagging at the back of his head - Juliana. He'd tried to find Genesis in the crowd to see if she had managed to contact her mother yet, but in the frantic rush to get to the school it was impossible to track anyone. By the time he got through the front doors he was soaked to the bone and frantic, and he couldn't help the frustration that leaked out into his voice when he asked the first responders at the entrance if they'd by any chance seen someone matching Genesis' description and they responded with an incredulous look, as if they hadn't just witnessed hundreds of people enter this building all at once. With a groan, he began the arduous task of storming through the school halls, scanning every person he passed, desperation and fear - over not only Juliana but also Genesis - now making him clench his fists together.

"I'm genuinely just so shocked we convinced Emil to do the Aristocats, I thought for sure he'd want Scooby Doo or something where he won't have to wear a tail." Flicking through the racks of some of the costumes the store had available, Kira pulled out on white cat onesie. "I think if I want Lucifer from Cinderella, I could wear something like this but I don't think you're going to let me get away with a onesie, are you?"

Considering she hadn't even gone out that last few years for Halloween, unless she had gone trick or treating with her friends and their children, wearing any sort of costume that wasn't just something from her closet was going to be a true accomplishment for Kira. As she pulled the onesie on and stepped around to the aisle where Genesis was looking, Kira struck a pose. "What do you think? Do you think this says 'yes I am the girl from the dating apps, glad you swiped left now?'"

"You know, I think you might be right. Ice cream might be needed." he agreed with a grin, eyes shining with pride as he looked down at Juliana, waiting for her reaction. He was still so focused on his daughter, he hadn't quite taken a good look at the woman in Genesis' chair. But as his daughter asked her to talk to her daughter for her, Cameron's attention was dragged in her direction. His brows came together in confusion, there was something oddly familiar about the woman, something that made him feel like he'd seen her before but couldn't quite place where. When she spoke, her voice only confirmed that feeling further. And Cam couldn't help but study her, transfixed for a second as he tried to figure out where he knew her from.

Suddenly, it hit him.

Was this the woman he'd spent the evening of the masquerade ball with? The awkwardness of the whole situation hit him like a ton of bricks and his gaze ping-ponged back and forth between his ex-wife and the woman in the chair, who he'd gone on a raffle date with and kissed just a couple weeks ago, wondering if he was the only person who had connected the dots.

Thankfully, Juliana snapped him out of his spiral when she said a quick, "Thank you!" to the woman and then ran back over to Cameron. "I'm ready for my ice cream now, Daddy!" Cameron offered her a shaky smile. "Sure thing, kiddo. Uhh..." he paused, glancing back at the woman again. "Guess I'll- I'll be seeing you." He said it in the direction of his ex-wife, but he couldn't help but wonder if the woman in the chair would remember it from the end of their date that night. @genortiz

Before Genesis could take the time to respond to any of Leyla's comments, the sound of her ex's voice filled the room and she watched as their daughter left the stack of picture books she had been flipping through in order to greet Cameron. While these interactions had become rather routine, today's pickup was sure to have an interesting plot twist. Not only had she forgotten that Leyla's appointment would coincide with his visit, but Gen wondered just how long it would take for the other woman to recognize her date. At least she wouldn't be the one to break the news.

With an awkward laugh, the woman did her best to focus on Juliana's excitement along with how proud the little girl had made both of her parents. "I know! I was telling her you might have to go for ice cream to celebrate."

Val had taken to walking Billie to school on her drop off days. It was a super short walk and starting the morning off with a bit of exercise never hurt anybody. "¡Adiós, niña! ¡Te amo!" she called as she watched Billie scurry off to join her friends. Picking up her phone, she quickly took a selfie and was typing out a caption along the lines of, "Avoid the drop of lines, walk your kid to school today!" to post on her story when she caught a glimpse of a familiar face saying goodbye to her daughter. With all the kids yelling and parents calling out about forgotten lunchboxes, there was a lot of background noise, so Val didn't hear what Genesis said to Juliana, but that was definitely her across the parking lot. Stuffing her phone into her cross-body bag, Val quickly made her way over to Genesis. "Hola chica!" she greeted, once she was within better hearing distance from her friend. "Please tell me your week has gotten off to a better start than mine?"

Cameron nodded along to Alex's explanation. Now that the other man mentioned it, he thought he remembered Alex talking about an aunt who lived in Briar Ridge when they were kids. They'd connected over both of them knowing that a tiny town like Briar Ridge existed. "I'm sure raising her here will prove a lot simpler." he pointed with his chin at Alex's daughter, an easy smile on his face. He truly did hope that Briar Ridge turned out to be a good fit for Alex and his daughter.

"Let us-" he cut himself off, realizing he and Gen weren't an 'us' anymore. Clearing his throat awkwardly, he tried again, "Let me know if you need any help settling in and all. I own Luther's now, and you guys are always welcome." He hoped Alex could tell how genuine the offer was. @alex-caldwell

Not much slipped by Alex's observational skills, which meant he noted the current of anxiety that seemed to roll through the conversation — even if it was there and gone just as soon as he'd noticed it. He stole a glance at Genesis' hand and noticed the absence of a wedding ring, and... wondered. It wasn't his place to comment, and yet the curiosity was nearly eating him alive.

Cam's change of subject had either been artfully deliberate, or coincidentally timely; either way, Alex would take the bait. The last thing he wanted was either of them wondering about his relationship status the way he was wondering about theirs. Complicated didn't even begin to cover it, especially now given his awareness of just who was in front of him.

It would be just his luck that his ex-wife would show up any day now.

He sighed, but his smile returned. "Truth be told, this is a better place to raise a kid than Manhattan, that's for sure. My aunt, uh, she retired, moved further south. When I mentioned wanting to get out of the city, she said she'd let me have her house."

Really, though, he had Emmy to thank for that. Despite the fact that his father's sister was about as close to a mother figure as he'd had growing up, she probably would've made him work a little harder for the home if not for his little mini-me. And the rather sudden way she appeared in his life.

There was an obvious tension in the air, and Callum sat across from Gen, mind racing and trying to figure it all out. Everything had been different since the drunken kiss. They laughed it off like it was nothing, but weeks passed, and they hadn't spoken. She had also tried to set him up with Kira out of nowhere. Not that Callum had an issue with that, but it felt forced. Something was for sure up, and now he was sitting there a little panicked that he had fucked a good friendship up.

He took the coffee from her with a smile and mumbled thank you, then wrapped his hands around it as a means of comfort. "So, uh -- yea... what's up?" He paused momentarily to glance at her, locking eyes with her before quickly looking away and down at his drink. "This Carter fella seems to have ruffled a few feathers." They had agreed to talk about Carter, so he respected that agreement and started there.

Glancing around at the hordes of kids in their Halloween costumes, Cameron had to admit that while he was mildly embarrassed at his own get up, he was thrilled to have the opportunity to experience Halloween like this with Juliana. It had been a long time since he'd had the chance and he knew how much his daughter was going to love this.

But there was a part of him that worried a bit about his own emotional self-preservation. The night of the hurricane, having Genesis lean and rely on him in the midst of her panic had brought back a lot of old memories. When things had been good between them, the pair were just about as close as you could get to a perfect team. They had done an excellent job in their years of being together at communicating, at approaching disagreements with the perspective that they were on the same side, and at remembering to love each other through those disagreements. It was only in the latter years, when he had prioritized his work too much that the distance between them had corroded away at their team work.

Spending that time together, getting a taste again of what it felt like to be 'them against the world' as they tried to navigate the emergency situation, had sent him reeling afterwards. Cameron was doing his best not to read into it too much, but getting to spend Halloween together in their family costume was sure to be full of emotional mine fields for him.

Eventually, Cam made his way across the gym and headed to pick up a glass of lemonade. Just as he raised the glass to his lips, his eyes caught sight of Juliana... and Genesis. For a moment, he allowed himself to pause and just take her in. Even dressed up as Dorothy Gale she was breathtaking. And in that moment, he could tell this evening was going to take a lot more emotional fortification on his part than he had thought it would.

Stealing himself, he approached his family, a smile lighting up his face as Juliana spotted him and came running towards him. Scooping her up in his arms, he grinned at her. "You sure you're not actually a lion, missy?" Cameron was painfully aware of Genesis approaching and finally, he knew he couldn't avoid meeting her gaze any longer. "You look pretty realistic too, Miss Dorothy."

As much as he didn't want to rehash the past, Cameron wished that they could continue the discussion. It felt like they were on the verge of having a real, all feelings out in the open, without emotions getting in the way, discussion for the first time in... well, way before their marriage dissolved. The hurt he had seen in Gen's eyes as she spoke up was something he would never feel okay with bypassing. But he couldn't force her to talk about it if she didn't want to. "I'm sorry, Gen. I let my fear of failure at turning my father's company around, contribute to me failing at our marriage. And that wasn't fair to you, or Juliana." His words were spoken quietly and quickly, as if fearful that he'd never get the chance to actually say them. But they were probably the most honest admission he'd ever really made before.

Finding out that his ex-wife's ex was in town wasn't exactly a high point for the night for Cameron. But that didn't mean he was willing to turn away when she was clearly struggling with handling it all. "Gen, you know I'm here for you if you want to talk, right?" he offered, finally reaching out and giving her arms a light, but he hoped comforting squeeze, the way she used to do whenever he was struggling with his anxiety. It was an act of familiarity he wasn't sure if he was technically supposed to engage in anymore, but if it could provide her with even a little bit of comfort in this moment, he'd gladly give it to her. "Just cause we're not married anymore doesn't mean we can't be there for each other." He said it with an offhand shrug, as if it wasn't a big deal, as if hearing her talk about Alex Caldwell wouldn't cut him to shreds. But Cam could do this for Genesis. It was the least he owed her.

Although it was difficult for her to admit, Genesis understood exactly how Cameron was feeling. It had been difficult to see him smiling at Leyla from across the room. To know that they were attending their first Briar Ridge event post separation. This was the vulnerability she wished she'd seen from him four years prior, but now it was all a little too late. "It's not that you didn't make me happy, I just missed you. And you never seemed willing to put work on the backburner. I didn't feel like a prior–" Realizing that she was dragging up the past, Genesis stopped herself with a shake of the head. "Sorry, I suppose this isn't the time or place."

The more that Cameron revealed about his run-in with Alex, the more her heart began to sink. She could only imagine how both her exes were feeling, though it was a little unsettling to think that Alex was off venting to strangers about their past. "I'm sorry. It's all.. a mess. And I feel like I'm on the verge of a breakdown. I don't know what to tell him or how to handle this and I.. I didn't mean to pull you away from your date. Go have fun."
