Personality: She is an oddball when it comes to meeting new people; however, that is quickly change of her being kind to others and Pokémon. While still maintaining her goofy side of course. She will be determined to get her mission done or help someone with their new Cipher problem. Sadly though, if situations are grim and harsh she will try her best to hide her negative feelings, and if pushed to the limit, sometimes she will look at things and blame herself or will go into a rage that has never been seen before out of her. Other than that, when it comes to meeting different Teams that are not Cipher, she will sometimes be a menace if they are harming people and their Pokémon, but if Cipher is after them for something they needed she will interfere to try her best to shut it all down…mostly to Cipher. If she does meet a grunt, it really depends, if they’re calm and collected then Aries will be very chill with them, but if they’re very aggressive she will do two things: Calm the situation by just being her odd self, or if things are not going well then she won’t hesitate to fight.

Beginning Backstory: Aries’s Start (kinda)

Present Backstory: Not only she still wishes to test her might to get better on her battling skills, but during her time she found herself hearing rumors of an old enemy that refused to stay buried. She ventured back to Paldea to investigate the rumors that something or someone is taking something from Area Zero, upon entering the gorgeous Zone she began to explore to see what has been taken…that’s when she met Cobalt, an Cipher Ace Commander. She recognized the body armor and helmet he was wearing which caused a massive fight to break out, thankfully she was able to be victorious…but at a cost. Cobalt sent out his Corviknight that gave her the scars on her face from the razor sharp talons. Her Ace, Anastasia watched in horror as she saw her trainer fall unconscious from the blow and in return gave Cobalt his scars as well, leaving the two out cold but Ana didn’t waste time to get Aries out before anything else happened. Waking up to feel a stinging pain on her face and surrounded by her Pokémon team, relieved she is okay, but Aries now faces a challenge she can’t ignore..Cipher is back and they are planning something very big. The true Birth of The Lucent Witch of Illusions has now come to stop Cipher throughout her adventure in any region she goes, even shared the news back at the Orre Region where her family is, as they warned those who would believe them…thankfully some three souls heard the news as they set out to locate some of Cipher’s Hideouts around the world and try to find the Witch. Another case once again appeared in the Sinnoh Region as she ventured out to investigate, meeting Cipher again as they were trying to capture the mythical Pokémon, Shaymin. Of course her being her, she went out to save the Shaymin from Cipher’s hand…yet one didn’t want her to get out alive, as Aries ran back to the safety of the League she found herself facing one of the head leaders of Cipher, Ozul. Aries tried to run again, but as she looked back the woman began to transform in front of her. It sadly happened too fast for the young trainer as she soon felt a talon on her neck, still gripping onto the small mythical she couldn’t allow whatever this thing was to get it. Thus, falling over to the waterfall below…she knew she died, yet half of her refused as she awoke to find herself in a strange new land, as well as a woman dressed very similar to a Hisuian Zoroark. Aries of course freaks out, even more as she sees blood and her very soul slipping out from her wound, the woman made an offer to Aries that she will gain “gifts” in time as she grows, but the woman wishes something in return. She wishes her to not only enjoy life, but to put a stop to the Shadow’s Curse. Aries had no clue about the curse, but she did want to stop Cipher, thus she accepted and was given a yellow orb of sorts…then finally, awake, but in pain.

As time passed for the Witch, she found herself in a struggle upon learning Three deaths occurred within Plasma after the Commanders rescued Cobalt. Scared and Exhausted she dreamed of two Glyphs that would soon aid her…and aid her she did as she tested out on a Leavanny…and it was a success, the Witch was able to not only capture shadow Pokémon but to also Purify them as well. However, there was a choice she had to make as she grew to make a small handful of friends within Team Neo Plasma, that being her joining the Team temporarily until Cipher retreats to a different region.

Now as Grunt 121, she’s trying to learn how TNP grunts operate and do their work, while at the same time she’ll provide them information and knowledge about Ciphers plans and goals.

Personality: Cold and harsh towards others who are not his fellow commanders or leaders. Extremely serious with his work and orders he is given to make sure Cipher is fully alive and ready; although, around his fellow commanders however, Kane is extremely shy when it comes to Mira. Since he and her are dating, whenever he has the free time he will spend time with her or help her with her tasks. With Archie though, he questions the boy of their ideas and behavior, but maintains his respect for them since Archie helped making weapons for the Commanders and Leaders. With Veda, same as Archie, but in a calmer way since Veda is working on scientific technology. All in all, harsh to anyone and will even mock them for the disaster the person is going to experience or has experienced, but kind towards Mira and respect to his fellow Commanders and Loyal to his leaders.

Beginning Story: Cobalt, or at the time before he joined Cipher, Kane was an ordinary young man at the time Cipher was making themselves known in the Orre Region. His home life was very much normal, but his family knew something was off about him..they didn’t know what it was, but Kane have always given a cold chill to his own family, even his own Pokémon at the time. He wanted them to be strong, he wanted them to become powerful, but in reality…he wanted power. Yet nothing happened negatively for the next five years…until Cipher rose up again with XD001 at their command, Kane was extremely fascinated of power they have presented. He found his calling and purpose as he snuck out one night to join Cipher…but even if he did join, he have witnessed the second fall of Cipher. Anger and hate fueled his heart, yet there was nothing he can do….until a few years later upon meeting one of the new leaders of Cipher.

Present(ish) Backstory: Kane Tori in the present

After his capture, Kane developed a fear for Hypnosis, but anger towards a Plasma Grunt. Thankfully he was able to recover him his wounds, but not his fear. As time passed he was able to wound Aries on her back which gave Cipher time to do some capturing of Scientists and Pokémon, little did he know the Witch had developed something new within her and didn’t expect her decision to join and aid Team Plasma for the time being…

Personality: Wicked, cold, and terrifying once provoked she will show no mercy towards anyone who gets in her way. Even with her cunningness when it comes to strategizing is dangerous to anyone who is in her way. To her fellow Commanders and Leaders however; like Kane’s she is also respectful to others, but with Kane, she deeply adores him. Loving and caring to him as he returns it back to Mira, although she will giggle on the fact he is shy about it, but she will say it openly to help him get out of his shell. With Archie and Veda, she does have kindness for them and appreciation for their hard work and creativity. Although, she does gets nervous when it comes to Archie being “Too” creative.

Personality: Chaotic, cold, selfish, and disgustingly disrespectful to any soul who he hurts out of pleasure and for his own amusement. That will completely change when he is around his Commanders and Leaders. With Kane and Mira, he is very friendly towards them and will tease Kane for being shy with Mira, but will mostly have high respect for Kane since he helped him in the past, but sees him as a better brother. Now speaking of Mira, he will be intrigued with her strategizing for battles and invasion plans. That would sometimes make him be a class clown and add extra ideas just to be a goof…it kinda works surprisingly. Now with Veda, he sees him as the second best partner he ever has. Working on technology as it was combined with science, his wicked ideas can truly fly with no restrictions thanks to Veda. Basically a symbiotic relationship.

Dislikes: Seeing some tech destroyed, one of his fellow commanders hurt or captured, having no fun if captured, Zapper getting captured or hurt, seeing someone beat him in his hacking abilities, interrogation…they find it boring and a waste, and Deinos.

Beginning: Archie’s Start

Present: Since he’s fully adjusted to his surroundings, fellow Commanders, Cipher Guards, and Peons, he enjoyed his job. Although once it went to fieldwork, that’s when things with him will get scary. He shows no remorse to other organization grunts or the Witch. It will bloom further if one of his Commanders have been captured, going far to try to break the defenses by more hacking to gather more information (even if it deems unusable) or input viruses to make things complicated. Even if the Commander has been rescued, he will continue to be a nuisance to the person or Team Organization.

Thanks to his clever mind with making energy weaponry for the Commanders, he got a request from both of his leaders if they can make them their weapons of their choice. Archie took the job with excitement, but was confused about the request. Energy claws on the hands, helmet, and lower legs. As confusing as that is, he still took the job with a passion as he automatically went to work with no hesitation. His project is still on going, but growing strong, he has been granted permission to take their time since the leaders understand such project will take trial and error. Yet his attitude quickly changed when Kane returned with a claw mark on his face, learning a woman took Cobalt’s challenge and won her fight. However, Kane commanded his Corviknight to claw her to death, only to give her scars and witnessed an enraged Hisuian Zoroark returning the attack onto him. Archie was mad, he helped when the Witch has been spotted to at least capture her or straight up kill her, but to his amazement from they have heard, she had died by the hands of his Queen…but the Witch refused and was alive all that time. Is what he believes. They still resume their projects and mission, gain information, and if push comes to shove, he will shove…hard. Making sure the new XD project will be a success once the right Legendary Pokémon have been selected.

Before he and Mira rescued Kane, they quickly ventured to the Orre Region to get Cobalt’s team back before they can be purified. Unfortunately for Aries and her family, it was a success. As they also found the Relic Stone and Purification Chamber, quickly destroying them. Archie threatened the Shaman and his family if they continue to help the witch, they will meet a gruesome end. Now leaving the Witch fully stranded. After he and Mira reduced Kane, the three resumed their objective to hunt down the witch or capture anyone that will deemed useful. Kane was able to injure Aries to the point she had to rest for a week, Archie meanwhile, went on a mad spree to kidnap scientist and technicians to force them to work with Cipher, those who got in his was found themselves a gruesome end.

Veda Sheridon Aivat

Gender: Male (He/Him)

Age: 51

Height: 5’6 Ft.

Team Organization: Team Cipher

Sexuality: N/A

Personality: Very intelligent when science comes into play, but if he is out in the front lines… He is extremely cold and ruthless when it comes to facing the enemy or experimenting Pokémon to transform them into Shadows. His kindness and respect is limited to his fellow Commanders, but mostly for his Leaders for obvious reasons, but to the Guards and Peons he will talk down to them since he believed they didn’t live up to Cipher’s name…even to his own brother.

With his three fellow Commanders he is respectful to them, but sometimes he will be rude when missions are in motion. He does know Kane doesn’t care about Veda’s attitude to him, as long Veda gets the information he will apologize to Kane, Veda’s respect grew more from what Kane retrieved from Area Zero and especially what happened to him when Kane was captured for the first time. Veda is very respectful to Mira from what she can do and for also obvious reasons (to not get on her bad side. But in reality she won’t do anything to him.), and finally with Archie, Veda funny enough sees him as an hyper and annoying grandson in the group. But seeing they get the job done, Veda will rarely talk negatively…the rare times he does is when Archie will talk for hours while Veda is working.

Beginning(ish): Veda’s and Lamont’s Past

Present: Despite he and his brother being the oldest members of Cipher, Veda continue to assist his fellow commanders in the front lines for battle. He found it to also help him study his enemy’s strength within them and their Pokémon teams, and will use that knowledge to make his shadow Pokémon better and more stronger. As the Pillar of Science, he has to find a way for Cipher to remain strong and fierce to bring the enemy down on their knees and spit them out, but the man soon got a quick does of a reality check as he and Archie tried to get more information out from Plasma…by holding Hana hostage upon see her in the Frigate, believe at first one of the three grunts will spill out where Kyurem is, that wasn’t the case… After an exhausting fight he and Archie were forced to retreat. His leaders were upset with Veda’s actions as he wasn’t aware the hostage he held before forcing to let her go has a brother…that is Hugh. Now angry at himself as he allowed the two leaders to give him his rightful punishment, but oddly, they didn’t kill him there. However they did put him together with Cobalt in kidnapping Old Plasma Grunts to make them spill who has one of the dragons, surprisingly Veda didn’t mind it…kinda. He didn’t want to be separated from his lab, but orders were orders… unaware to him…this gave his brother a full window for Cipher Intel.

Sexuality: Bisexual

Personality: He does come off as ruthless as his brother Veda when it come to fighting or protecting Cipher. In reality however, he isn’t, he is gentle and kindhearted man to any outsider he meets. He will deeply warn anyone who gets too close to Cipher’s borders out of worry. Sadly however, he will fight anyone to make sure Cipher doesn’t get too suspicious with him so he has to act to make sure his head isn’t off from his body. (Basically a massive sweetheart warrior who hates working with Cipher.)

With the Commanders, he despises them. Except his own brother who he still believes he can save Veda from the madness…if he can. With Kane. Mira, and Archie he hates them with a burning passion, especially what Mira and Archie done as they took 3 souls away, just to save Kane. With Aries and those she meet however, he is gentle and patient to her and them when he shares information on what Cipher’s next move. Perk for his patients, if anyone doesn’t trust him, he will do whatever it take to prove he isn’t like Cipher, he is the complete opposite.

Beginning and Present: Veda’s and Lamont’s Start

Present-ish: Lamont heard the small raid that Veda and Archie have done, and hearing that his own brother did to put a child in harms way…he was very furious. Demanding why Veda would do such a thing, only to have a cold death glare from his brother…sadly, Lamont couldn’t continue arguing with anymore due to Veda threatening him to harm his own older brother’s family. Lamont was horrified from what was happening to Veda…he didn’t want to believe his brother is now becoming a monster day by day…

Upon hearing Veda’s punishment and learning he won’t be in the lab as much, this gave the man a open window to collect any information about Cipher’s plans to create the Original Dragon and how they’ll corrupt the legendary. However, during his research he caught wind of three familiar names after so long…Wes, Rui, and Michael…they are looking for the Witch and they’re finally in the Unova Region. He couldn’t be more relieved to hear such news, now with new information on standby with him, all he can do now is wait until the next Full Moon.

Personalities: Horrifically wicked to those who see one of the leaders for the first time, and if a soul isn’t part of Cipher, that will be their last they’ll see the light of day as the victim’s body will be found drained to death from blood loss. The two are extremely secretive for what they truly are, even to their own Commanders. Although they wish to keep their secrets hidden, their terrifying presence will still linger with a sense of conquest, besides all of that, they still show respect and honor to their Commanders, Guards, and Peons oddly enough; however if the Guards or Peons ruin or failed a mission they will be heavily punished by the two or give full permission for their Commanders to deal with the failures. They do not tolerate those who ruin or are trying to falter their plans to take the world by force and will torment anyone who gets in their way.

•Ozul

Ozul is very fond of her Commanders, seeing them as equal as her and her husband. She did grew saddened and angry for what happened to Kane, pausing Cipher’s plans as she and her remaining Commanders planned a rescue mission, and with her full permission, she gave both Mira and Archie the task and a chance to leave their red marks. If she does goes to the frontlines, she is a horrendous being as she will fight not only the person but also their Pokémon as well. Showing no mercy for the trainer and their team, even if they got her aggravated. She even will do wicked tricks to whoever survives her carnage or feast on their blood.

(Basically Home girl cares for her Commanders, but fight or piss her off you’ll find yourself empty as a juice pouch. Even if you survive she will play around with her food and then finish you off.)

•Durai

Durai, much like his wife Ozul, only he is hungry for power and control over the world and turn it to shadows. He does expect everything well from his Commanders, Guards, and Peons. From the day he heard Kane has been captured for the first time, he was very flabbergasted… surprisingly he wasn’t angry at Kane nor at Veda, disappointed yes, but not fully; as he learned more he had succeeded his mission. He still expects Kane and Veda to do better next time once he and Ozul get what they want. Once he is also in the frontlines, he meets the same horrible sick darkness he shares with his wife. Even will scare and sneer the enemy as he will finally reveal what he truly is, a monster as he will leave a bloodbath behind. However, he is scared of the witch, not because she’s fighting them back, but for what she reminds him of. A ghost from the past had come back to finish him off, making sure he, his wife, Commanders, Guards, and Peons capture or permanently dispose her for good…if they can.

"hi" he whispered, voice softer than the satin sheets that enveloped his figure. he looked pure, angelic, pristine. "hi" you whispered back, as your cheeks grew warm at the sight of his eyes twinkling gently beneath the sun. "pretty" he hummed, as a calloused thumb grazed across your bottom lip in a gentle display of affection. "so pretty" he repeated. kazutora was hopelessly in love with you. beyond escape. entrapped by your beauty and care for him. that's right ─ him, who had once been so broken, his pieces lost in the world yearning for someone to find them and glue them back together. yearning for you. now lost in his thoughts, kazutora picked strands of your hair to run through his fingers, twisting and curling the pieces around then delicately stroking the side of your head with fingers that dragged against your scalp in what he could only describe as a massage. when did he fall so hard for you? was it after days of fights driven by your emotions and desperate attempts to help him? perhaps it was when he began to realize that you would always be waiting for him when he returned home with a clouded mind and aches of emotional pain. none of that mattered now, because kazutora, was hopelessly in love, with you. "baby" he murmured, releasing himself from his thoughts with his thumb now returning to graze your lips before a shy kiss had replaced it. "hmm?" you purred, lips still lingering over his in a sweet smile as kazutora uttered the tender words for the first time. "I love you"

draken's brows furrowed with dismay, his skin creasing at the forehead as your words brushed past his ears. the gentle patter of the rain soaked his hair, plastering flaxen strands to his face as you stood close with inklings of frustration tainting your voice as if to beg him to beg for you. a heavy sigh was released from his parted lips, one weighted by the knot that grew in his throat and was ivy to his lungs. he was a man of straightforward words, was he not? he had always held pride in his ability to speak his mind, not a sprinkle of sugar to coat his words. but tonight felt, different. his heart, which had previously dodged and ducked each emotional word that fell from your lips with accuracy that could only be attributed to self protection, was now wistfully wavering beneath the rain, seemingly unable to avoid the exasperation behind your words. where had he gone wrong? was he too stern? too cold? was his heart too blocked off and sheltered away from your desperate attempts to be let him? was he too harsh? had he failed to listen and empathize with your vulnerable moments, allowing only a surface response so not to break down the walls that kept him so reserved from any harm that could tug at his emotions? his teeth gritted in bother, irked at the thought of his own behaviour, his own ability to be vulnerable for you when you had begged for it the most. what more could he do from here? what could he possibly say that would sway you? "oi" he muttered to you, your back half turned to him, accepting your defeat. oi. oi. that was all he could come up with? oi? draken bit back a snarl at himself, frustrated with his faults and the growing realization of just how far he had pushed you. but his words had effect, your heel pressing back to the ground restricting you from walking away. "I.." he paused, head dipped in defeat. "I'm sorry for making you upset with me.. I just.. sometimes it's hard to--" you heaved a sigh, cutting his words as if they were a thin piece of thread. "sometimes it's hard to work so hard to understand you, and only ever get to see the draken that everyone else sees" your words were hard to speak, rolling off your tongue in rigid streams like the rain that trickled down your temples. "I know." he admitted, feet bringing him closer to your body soaked in a combination of your tears and the gentle rain that cleansed them. "I'm sorry." he murmured, now pulling you into his chest in an embrace laced with consolation and protection as he hummed his confession against the top of your head in a tight embrace. "I'm afraid to love someone again. it took you walking away for me to realize that. but I can't lose you- I can't lose someone I love again"

ABOUT THE SUPPORT BANDS:

The Hush Sound was a support band throughout the whole tour. They opened for Panic during the 2008 Honda Civic Tour too. Ryan had stumbled across The Hush Sound online in 2005 and passed their purevolume info along to Pete to help them get signed.

OK Go was on this tour until June 22nd and then The Dresden Dolls took over on June 27th. OK Go was double booked for their last 3 shows, so they had to leave early. They posted that the guys in P!ATD were “intensely awesome to an extraordinary degree.”

Lovedrug stepped in for the shows at Orlando, Myrtle Beach, and Norfolk since OK Go had to leave.

Billboard said “Another sign Panic! At The Disco is distancing itself from the punk-pop archetype is its choice of cabaret rock act the Dresden Dolls as the opener for its current tour.”

MISC DETAILS ABOUT THIS TOUR:

what to even call this tour: the summer 2006 tour didn’t have a fancy name since it was the band’s first national headlining tour. It was usually just some variation of “the tour,” “the Panic tour,” etc. When the band was overseas later they sometimes referred to it as “the American tour,” and then “the summer tour” became more frequent by November once the Nothing Rhymes With Circus tour existed. I’ve seen a few people call this the Lucent Dossier tour, but I think that could get confusing since those performers were also with P!ATD in the UK in late October.

Jon was 20, Ryan & Brendon were 19, and Spencer was 18.

most shows for this tour sold out quickly and were moved to larger & larger venues that were still being upgraded as the tour progressed.

fans usually said the whole show was close to 4 hours long (including the opening bands).

A few fans started freaking out that they spotted Matt Cortez (Frank Iero’s guitar tech) at shows. Apparently MCR was taking a short break and P!ATD used some of their crew for this tour. I’m pretty sure that’s how they got Robb Jibson too.

the guys did a little chant/cheer thing as a group before shows this season.

there were stories of bras being thrown onstage and girls & women flashing the band.

The band started doing meet & greets before shows during this tour (they’d done some signings before but those were more like promos for stores).

The band had hired personal security now – this was their first tour with Zack.

Eric, Bartram, the Lucent Dossier performers, and people from the opening bands were able to chat with fans after many shows.

Spencer was so incredibly responsible and had managed the business aspect of the early band. Obviously other people handled a lot of the band’s business now, but it sounded like Spencer was still the one the crew would go to with questions. He was also the one who had to write the band’s public statements for news outlets.

Dream Rockwell and Amanda Palmer both mentioned that the band’s macho crew members were difficult to deal with. A couple fans also mentioned negative comments that the crew made to them about the band’s music. It sounded like some of the crew might have treated Brendon like an annoying kid as well.

there was no encore, which disappointed some fans… but the band did take a bow (here are more of the pictures).

Brendon was still stage diving during Build God at some shows... here’s another decent video.

The band put their own money into this tour, so it sounded like most of the income they actually kept came from the merch sales. That was part of the Brent drama... the guys kept emphasizing that if he’d paid any attention to the business side of the band, he’d know that this summer was not going to be a big financial success for them. Spencer said “We are basically breaking even with the amount of money it is costing us to put on the show that we want to put on.”

ABOUT THE MUSIC ASPECT OF THE SHOWS:

Brendon was still playing the piano for some songs, but the band had also hired Eric Ronick as a touring keyboard player (and misc percussion & whatever was needed). That meant that Ryan didn’t need to play the piano part in There’s A Good Reason anymore.

Bartram Nason was the new touring cellist who played his own personal cello with an electric pickup during this tour. He also helped with misc percussion.

Jon helped out with the keyboard too.

the band often did a variation on the whole “I don’t smoke!” thing during There’s A Good Reason. They usually did the “S.E.X.” part for that same song too.

Forgive Durden had a banjo when they opened for P!ATD that spring... and now Ryan had a banjo.

Ryan had been taking voice lessons for a while now and said Brendon had been helping him too. All of his hard work was evident as his singing had been getting steadily better through each tour so far. By this summer he was SO good! The huge improvement in less than a year was so incredibly inspiring. Ryan really threw himself into whatever he did. Spencer & Brendon had improved tremendously as well. The summer tour was 10 months after the band played their first show, so they could’ve easily been unprepared to pull off a national tour... but Spencer, Ryan, and Brendon had basically hit the ground running and worked so hard to perform at the level their band had jumped to. And thankfully Jon was a really good musician and already had experience touring.

the band was trying to create a full show using songs from only one album, so they added two covers: Karma Police by Radiohead and Tonight, Tonight by the Smashing Pumpkins.

in a 2007 interview Ryan talked about the Tonight Tonight cover and said “we hear Billy Corgan is a fan, which is quite a thrill.”

the songs were mostly played in a similar order to how they appeared on the CD. Ryan told OnMilwaukee:

“We kind of looked at this record as two halves. The first half was much more rock derivative and electronic music, and the second half we started exploring more organic instruments and more organic kinds of songwriting, a little bit of influences from jazz and Latin music, and just using more theatrical elements in those songs. So we would play our tours like that. We would sort of set it up as two different shows. It wasn't completely in sequence but it was always the first half and then the second half.”

Brendon told Dose Magazine: "We wanted our live show to be kind of like a Broadway play in a sense. You have music being played and performance going on or a little skit.”

About the makeup: Lucent Dossier wore makeup onstage and started doing the band’s makeup as well. It looked like that really helped Ryan step into a role and come out of his shell a bit during this tour. Here’s a general idea of Ryan’s makeup this summer (he started doing his own makeup eventually during this tour). Brendon seemed to like wearing makeup, but didn’t do anything too elaborate on his own until later that year. The same thing applies to Spencer... he seemed to like the makeup that Dream Rockwell did, but he didn’t get really into doing his own makeup each night until October 2006 (the 6 red looks in this post are from late 2006, but the others are from the summer tour). Jon did not seem to appreciate the makeup lol. He wore it on the first night of the tour, but in general he usually decided to go without it.

eventually the band’s website said “tour makeup provided by our friends over at M.A.C. cosmetics” this summer and the guys tried to mention that in interviews sometimes too.

fans said there was a smoke machine at some shows.

an Absolutepunk update about the summer tour said “Panic! at the Disco's live set now includes blinking lights, dancers, a costume change, and a skinnier drummer.”

Ryan later told a German magazine that people who grow up in Vegas feel committed to do something bigger because everything there is brighter, louder, more colorful etc. One review of the summer 2006 tour said that P!ATD pulled off everything Motley Crue had been trying to do with their circus tour (and that review came before the Nothing Rhymes With Circus Tour even existed ha).

LUCENT DOSSIER

Dream Rockwell from Lucent Dossier did their costumes and directed the performance aspect of the tour. She and Dusty also did the lapdance, which Dream said was supposed to be “kind of showing the unglamorous side of it.”

There were 3 performers at a time, but 5 overall – here’s more info about who’s who.

The Lucent Dossier performers shared a bus with some of the crew.

“As for the boys in the band, they’re great…. for 18 year olds they are incredibly wise, attentive and business minded. They don’t drink or smoke, they don’t party or bring groupies back stage (at least not so far!). It’s as easy to have deep conversations with them as it is to laugh and joke around. I’m very impressed with how they conduct themselves and we’ve had lots of fun hanging with them.”

Roger Fojas from Lucent Dossier was so much fun because he got really involved with the band & fans and seemed to care a ton about what he was working on. Here’s part of his myspace post from late July (I added links that seemed relevant):

it's funny because I'm usually a photographer when I'm not a circus ringleader clown dancer extraordinaire (and yes... of course I've been shooting crazy mad photographs of my experiences with Panic!)... but on tour I'm on the other end of the camera ... on stage everyone is being photographed from the audience point of view (and then posted on blogs and video streams across the internet)... then here in Denver there are all these proffessional video cameras being set up everywhere (seems like there'll be an upcoming concert video of our show in the works)... and even Amanda and Bryan of the Dresden Dolls are making this faux music video they are at war with the Panic! boys..... it's a funny concept where both bands are scheming at destroying the members of the other band.

THE LIVE IN DENVER DVD:

Yes, the dvd is fun. But there were almost 50 shows scheduled for the summer tour. Denver was only one single night… every picture from the summer tour is not “Live in Denver.”

The dvd came out over 3 months after this tour ended (here’s the box set). It was nice to have such clear footage, but at the same time the band didn’t really feel like themselves. The audio on the dvd was mixed by the producer of AFYCSO, so it also doesn’t sound totally like the normal band that summer either (this is just my own opinion). Also, Brendon wasn’t as relaxed as he normally was. We’d heard that he was also nervous for the Astoria show that was filmed during P!ATD’s first headlining tour and that the band had been much more fun to watch on other nights in that tour when he could loosen up more. So I don’t watch the dvd nearly as much as regular youtube videos because those feel more like the season I remember. I do love how Ryan was extra animated at the Denver show, though!! (He ended up winning MVP that night).

OTHER STUFF:

An excerpt from a summer 2006 Pollstar interview with Scott Nagelberg (the band’s manager) and Andrew Simon (their booking agent):

"If they had gone out with just the four of them, just playing in front of a banner behind them or nothing, they wouldn't be as happy," Nagelberg said. "Even though the tour would be successful and they would potentially come home with more money, it's about feeling comfortable and bringing the show they want to bring, and that's worth more to them than anything else.” Both Simon and Nagelberg used the phrase "raising the bar" in describing the band's live set, and both agreed that they'd never seen a band rise through the ranks so quickly. "It's moved faster than anybody possibly could have imagined," Nagelberg said. "It's lightning in a bottle, and it's a matter of working and taking their great ideas and turning them into something feasible and into a reality.” "There's not a lot of bands out there right now at their level who are putting so much back into their show," Simon said. "It's a real spectacle.”

Spencer had been talking about his increasingly ambitious plans for a potential national headlining tour for a while. He really had an incredible imagination for the visually creative side of the band (but he also had the ambition & work ethic to pull it off). Spencer told Big Cheese Magazine in January 2006:

“We had ideas to do a headlining tour, to make it a little more theatrical, a little more than a lot of bands do. We’re going to try and step it up... I don’t know if we’d ever get to the point of performing in arenas and stadiums, but I remember reading that one Pink Floyd stage set was so in-depth they had to have two made and would hopscotch them between venues. It’s like, who would even think to do anything like that anymore? Bands have got too lazy. They’ll go onstage and maybe shoot some confetti into the crowd. That’s about it.”

It sounded like that Pink Floyd inspiration was considered for the summer tour. Spencer told Kerrang that they “were thinking about having two different stage sets at one time but it was just impossible.” Ryan added: “we had to scale back our ambitions a little because we weren’t thinking about what was physically possible. It was all getting quite extravagant.”

AbsolutePunk asked Spencer “Do you ever think that the theatrics you put into your live show all of the sudden will make people think you’re a ‘gimmick’ band?” Spencer replied:

“We switched when we were able to headline and control the overall show. When you’re an opening band, you have a very short set and limited stage room. You’re also not making enough to pay for gas, let alone a crew and production so it doesn’t make sense to half ass it. I don’t get why trying to do the best show possible for our fans makes us a ‘gimmick’ band. The album doesn’t wear makeup. If you liked the album before we had make up on. Why would it suddenly become worse?”

Kerrang gave the Toronto show the highest possible rating and said in their review:

“The band, meanwhile, are on fire. While frontman Brendon Urie struts and flirts in the middle of it all, Panic! are so slick it seems impossible that they’ve been playing live for less than a year… the fact that they’ve just one album to draw on doesn’t matter in the slightest, such is the audio visual overload onstage. And having the balls to pad the set with covers of Radiohead’s ‘Karma Police,’ and Smashing Pumpkin’s ‘Tonight Tonight’ and pulling it off has to be applauded. … It’s the antithesis of punk rock – glossy, glitzy, pure showbiz, impossible to recreate in your garage. Panic! are throwing down the gauntlet, challenging others to bring showmanship back to live music, but for now they’re alone in their ambitions. One of their songs insists that lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off. They’re wrong – this spectacle just might hold that title.”
