tragic hero, but they live. they live, but they never get to Be. they’re the folk hero, the savior, the one who is always expected to save the day. they don’t die, but they don’t truly exist outside of the dutiful, renown hero, so they don’t live beyond their deeds.

surviving, but existence only being what others want or need, saving everyone else all the time? it feels like a form of tragedy to me.

Yeah I really like the parallels here between WWX and Little apple.#Specifically the sense of how we get a nod to how he's changed.#Little apple and WWX have both grown a little less lean and hungry (one literally the other metaphorically)#This whole episode is basically about WWX's desire for something peaceful and domestic in his life.#and here is little apple - his first companion from the start of his new life - changed to something softer.#Very much a 'look how far we have come moment' that is rather subtle but enjoyable.

that's just my "I want THIS SPECIFIC WAY" of wishing an ED was and I got what I wanted in a way with everyone from the LoV having their moment to shine (from the current arc aside from Compress) - so Spinner, Toga, Dabi and Tomura all have that. IN BOTH ED and OP

I saw A Real Pain recently. Really beautiful, really healing, and very, very Jewish in the best way. I highly recommend but I don't know how it will hit for everyone, though I don't think you have to be Jewish for the themes of generational trauma and difficulty reconciling the enormity of the world's grief with the legitimacy or complexity of your own personal pain in the face of that is only a Jewish thing. So I think it'll hit for other people but I appreciated it was also very by the Jews for the Jews in a way that despite the stereotype about us CoNtRoLlInG tHe MeDiA is actually very rare.

#Culkin's performance absolutely lives up to the hype but there is so much else going on #it's so representative of this really specifically Jewish but I don't think EXCLUSIVELY Jewish understanding of guilt and suffering #that hits like a truck #like what is your pain worth in the face of the suffering of the world both in the legacy of the Holocaust and more generally #and what is our role in facing it when it is so easy to go one way and drown in the enormity of the world's pain and our own (like Kieran #Culkin's character) or someone like Jesse Eisenberg's character who seems cold and detached at first but he is also struggling to survive #his own mind from a mental anguish that he feels guilt for even feeling in the first place yet also doesn't know how to connect to his #hurting cousin because of it #it's so good #A Real Pain #Lior liveblogs movie season

Was that first glance truly a gay little moment between Mizu and Akemi, or was she actually surprised (maybe even a little jealous?) that femininity could even look like that? Lavish, spoiled, seemingly loved or at least, something to be desired. I think it's pretty sure that she does not grasp how Akemi's life is a prison just as much as hers. That much is clear in their dialogues and her behavior towards her.

What if that dialogue (you, magical forest creature spoiling your good chances at a good life etc etc) was actually lowkey jealousy? of a life she herself would never get to experience as a woman? of being allowed to be a woman AND have a chance at happiness?

#cant believe i missed this one when i specifically rewatched the whole season for this :')#trigun #vash #vash the stampede #trigun stampede #trigunedit #mine #gif:trigun #so i thought the reflective effect appeared in more episodes but it was only episode 1 #and then it kinda reappears when vash is not vash anymore in eps 11-12 #the first episode had a lot of bright lights (desert sun and then the lights from the plants)#which made the reflection seem natural to happen but it was interesting it happened quite a lot as a storytelling tool almost #like it helped to push across this introduction of vash bc at first we dont know anything about him (first time fans like me heh)#so they hide his eyes in important moments including his first appearance #and it goes possibly for how that reflection is how vash doesnt know meryl or roberto yet so it takes a while for him to trust them #and see whats their deal #i like that 7th gif with comparison of rosa beside vash.. you can see her go on a whole journey with just her eyes #but vash's thought process is hidden until the last moment where he doesnt want to fight the julai guys who want to take him #the last one is so creepy.. he's an empty husk! there could be pain or numbness or multiple other emotions in his eyes #but the glasses put them behind a barrier and only the movement tells us more that hes floating there trapped emotionless #its so sad.. uff i love this show

You know, I think I just had a realization about one of the reasons I prefer original Garmadon over resurrected Garmadon

So you know how there’s the trope of “one of the big bads is actually one of the main characters’ dad (or mom, but it’s usually dad, at least in my experience)”. And usually alongside it, the evil parent either doesn’t care about their kid and/or is willing to get rid of them for the sake of their evil plans, or they want their kid to be evil just like them and join the dark side

Garmadon however, in the first two seasons, differs from that. We’re shown that he loves his son dearly and doesn’t want harm to come to him, at least whenever possible, and he literally states that he never wanted Lloyd to be like him

He differs from that aspect of the trope, and honestly I don’t feel like I’ve seen other evil parents have that angle. Likely because in Garmadon’s specific scenario, evil was forced upon him and he literally can’t help it. But regardless, it’s unique to the trope and it makes him more interesting than just a generic menacing villain

But when he comes back, he has that aspect of his personality erased, and so now he’s just doing the trope straight

Yeah, in Season 8, he’s supposed to be brought back super evil, and it makes the fight in Episode 9 devastating for Lloyd, and we get glimpses that somewhere deep down, he does still care about Lloyd, even if he’s convinced he isn’t or shouldn’t, but that doesn’t change the fact that he is now just the evil dad

I feel like his and Lloyd’s interactions in Crystalized are exactly this trope, or at least that part of “embrace the evil side of your heritage”, in terms of the Oni stuff. And similarly, Lloyd doesn’t want to be anything like his evil dad

The nuance and angst and tragedy that I really liked is now gone, and replaced with something more generic

#they did sometimes address that Garmadon used to be nicer and loving #but when taken at face value that’s how it is now #or at least feels to me #I know the writers for the future seasons aren’t the same original writers #and I personally theorize that in some aspects they took more from the movie than the original show #the Lloyd and Garmadon relationship being one of them #and that personally ticks me off because Garmadon was probably my second favorite character other than Zane in early seasons #specifically because of his relationship with Lloyd #even if I was excited at the time that Garmadon was returning in Season 8 maybe they shouldn’t have #I assume the only reason they brought him back was because he was in the movie #oh well #I at least have the first 5 seasons #ninjago #lord garmadon #lloyd garmadon #rant #personal opinion
