Salut Margz, hope all lies well. I've been re-reading A Monstrous Regiment--it's bringing me a lot of comfort these days bc job is stressful--and I am wondering what the dragons of the division think of each other. Does Laconia think Wollstonecraft is stodgy and tiresome? Does Attia think Laconia is too snooty and does she seek comfort with Antiope? Do all the dragons think Attia is just a lil bit dumb? Happy to get your perspective if you feel up to it!!

Thanks! Still working through some creative burnout and some stressful IRL stuff but it is getting better! I hope your job gets less stressful soon!!

Re: the dragons in the division- everyone respects Antiope very much, and is very impressed by her age and service, but Wollstonecraft often and very disapprovingly thinks that Antiope is a very solid sort of fighter. It’s a way of daintily condemning with praise someone Wollstonecraft believes is getting a little too old for the field of battle and who should not be put in situations where she would have to think for herself. Attia is very fond of Antiope and loves hearing her stories of the olden days and often turns to her for company or comfort. Laconia shares Wollstonecraft’s opinion on Antiope, and often, privately thinks that while Attia’s good at following orders, and Wollstonecraft is a very shrewd and reliable regimental leader, she, Laconia, is the best fighter in the entire regiment. Laconia finds the ferals to be a daily annoyance, but would only gripe about it to her Captain.

Attia is often intimidated by Laconia but trusts Laconia implicitly to make the right calls or to get them out of any tight spots or trouble. Attia adores Wollstonecraft but is too timid to say much to that extent- the fear of disappointing so self-controlled and masterful a dragon looms very large in her thoughts. She likes the ferals and as she’s the youngest of the big dragons, would very much like to join in their games, but she would dream of intruding if she isn’t wanted and the ferals are too self-centered to realize she’d like to join in a game of trick-the-cheese-away-from-the-guest.

Antiope looks very indulgently upon all the little whippersnappers in her regiment, but is fondest of Attia. She is often amused at Laconia’s dash and drive, and often thinks to herself that Wollstonecraft would really be a better companion if she learned to enjoy life a little more. But she is glad to work with all of them and as the largest and oldest dragon there, has no complaints about her position or the respect she is shown from the others. (The ferals don’t bother her- she thinks of them with amused condescension. They are all just BABIES. How charming of them, learning to fight!)

Wollstonecraft is largely very pleased by her regiment because it is very balanced. Attia’s timidity counteracts Laconia’s moments of Charge-of-the-light-brigade rushes into danger. The chaos of the ferals balances the dependable solidity of Antiope. Everyone obeys her orders to the best of their ability. However, she privately thinks that Attia needs to come out of the shell, Laconia needs a lesson in thinking before acting, Antiope needs to consider retirement, and the ferals all need their own individual captains to civilize them. She is closest to Laconia, because she and Laconia both think they are the best fighter in the regiment and enjoy judging other captains and dragons as inferior.

The ferals are like that Don Draper meme— they don’t really think of the big dragons at all, unless forced to. Then they respect the big dragons for their treasures and will do what they say if sufficiently bribed or bellowed into it.

what if we were enemies but then... lovers — enemies to lovers trope!!!! playlist form. this one is a work in progress and it’s been tricky to do, but i like it so far!

madz’s all-time bops — statsforspotify gave me my top songs of all time and it was SO embarrassing. i had it make a playlist for it. please don’t ask me why frank ocean is the top song, i’ve never listened to any of his songs other than white ferrari

ouch! ouchie. ouch. — songs that are just...... heart wrenching. they really get ya. they sure do make ya feel. unfortunately, i have several playlists similar to this one. i periodically go through phases when i feel i must make a new sad playlist.

400-year-long nap in the woods, let’s go! — a shambles of hozier, florence + the machine, lord huron, and a couple of other artists that you can listen to when you really feel like encompassing a decaying corpse lost to time beneath piles of moss and rotten leaves. one of my favourites.

i’ve read sadder stories than this but it still hurts — just a bunch of ‘breakup’ songs, but i’ve never actually been through a romantic breakup so it’s hypothetical. i used it when i lost friends a while back. bangers.

let’s go driving at midnight. i won’t tell you i love you, but i’ll be thinking it — god all i want is for somebody to take me on a drive around the lake i live on in the dead of night. i want to fall asleep in the passenger seat while they hold my hand and we listen to this playlist. i yearn every day.

goddamn...... — i’m not religious but this music feels godly to me. in like a horny way. it’s hard to explain. more hozier, to nobody’s surprise.

I saw this “100 OTP questions” by @the-moon-dust-writings and figured I'd procrastinate:

1. Who loves flower crowns more?

Neither of them really, but Asami might make Iroh wear one just to laugh at him.

2. Who is the one who likes to cuddle?

Iroh. Asami likes it, too, but he usually initiates.

3. Who has awful taste in music?

Honestly, both of them. Asami likes terrible dance music and Iroh likes obscure combinations of horns and bells and stuff from different cultures.

4. Who is the meme lover?

Asami thinks they’re funny. Iroh doesn’t quite understand.

5. How did their second date go?

Iroh tried to take Asami somewhere very fancy, but the wait was too long. They ended up making out in a shadowy doorway down the street and missing their reservation entirely. Iroh was mortified, but Asami dragged him around the corner to a low-key noodle shop that has since become their favorite restaurant.

6. How many children do they want/have?

Asami thinks about three. Iroh, as many as Asami will agree to.

7. Who hides the weapons?

Iroh hides weapons for Asami around the house so she’ll always have something on hand. In a drawer in the kitchen, on her nightstand, etc. He knows she can take care of herself… and he stashes weapons for her anyway. Asami rolls her eyes but secretly thinks it’s sweet.

8. Who is the better dancer?

Asami. She likes dancing, and learned formal dancing in school. Iroh can’t dance at all, having skipped out on all his lessons as a child after bribing his instructor. He thought dancing is boring, but likes dancing with Asami and lets her lead.

9. Do/Did they have a theme wedding?

No. They quite deliberately have a very normal wedding, including cutting out a lot of the more stuffy Fire Nation customs because Iroh doesn’t want Asami to feel out of place not having any family present.

10. What do their parents think of them dating?

Hiroshi Sato is livid, and actually tried to have Iroh assassinated from prison. His little girl, marry a firebender? A prince of the firebenders? Iroh’s parents are more accepting. Izumi initially thinks Asami is too young and gives Iroh a hard time about how quickly he got serious, but quickly comes around when it’s clear Asami is very mature for her age. Within a year Iroh’s parents are both hounding him on when he’ll make it official.

11. Are they a super sappy couple?

They are that couple everybody hates.

12. How did they get together?

They meet during the Equalist revolution, but don’t get together until long after. Iroh has a crush on Asami almost immediately, but spends forever sitting on it thinking it wasn’t the right time and trying to be friends until one day he just kind of slips up and kisses her. She kisses him back. It turns out Asami liked him, too, but she isn’t great at reading people and had no idea he was interested.

13. Who asked the other to get married?

Iroh just kind of blurts it out one day.

14. Who stays up too late and makes stupid jokes?

Asami is the night owl. Iroh makes the bad jokes.

15. Who is the nerd?

Oh my god, both of them. Asami is more of the classic nerd. Iroh is more of a dork.

Iroh.

Two questions about flower crowns out of 100?? Changing this to who is more dominant in bed. Asami.

18. Who likes to read?

Iroh. They both do, but he’s much more into it.

Asami. She has the shorter attention span.

20. Who tutors the other?

They both would in different subjects. Asami is better at math, physics, etc. Iroh is better at philosophy and languages.

21. Do they have similar taste in movies?

No. Asami likes gory slasher films and lots of action. Iroh scoffs and thinks they’re dumb. Asami, in turn, thinks his period dramas can be kind of boring, and refuses to count documentaries as movies. But there’s a healthy overlap in things like Vikings and Game of Thrones.

22. How do their personalities complement each other?

Asami helps Iroh lighten up a bit, drawing him out of his shell, and gives him an anchor and a sense of home. She’s more social than he is, and a lot of her friends eventually become his. But she’s also quiet enough and serious enough that she doesn’t tire him out and can feed his need for downtime. Iroh, in turn, loves seldom but deeply, and gives Asami the kind of fierce, unconditional love and stability she needs. He’s also genuinely interested in her projects, is smart enough to follow most of it, and is one of the only people who can occasionally beat her in Pai Sho. They have a lot of fun together just being nerds.

23. How do they tell everyone that they are going to be having a kid/adopting a child soon?

They don’t have to tell anybody. It’s all over Iroh’s face like a big neon sign.

Asami, but not by much. She’s more up to date with trends, while Iroh’s style is clean and classic.

Hoo boy, both of them. Do not go there.

26. What songs do they sing together in the vehicle?

Neither of them sing in the satomobile. Iroh has a decent voice, but he’s a bit private about it. Asami mostly hums.

27. What other couple would your otp get along with?

Iroh quickly becomes BFFs with Bolin. Asami and Opal aren’t quite as close, but they like each other’s company and have fun as a foursome. They also get along quite well with Pema and Tenzin.

28. Who likes to prank the other?

Iroh tries more often. Asami’s pranks are more successful.

29. Who is the one who loves to take pictures?

Iroh, though generally Korra is the picture taker in the group.

30. How would they react if they found out they were soul mates?

Iroh raises an eyebrow. “Hmm.” Asami only shrugs. They both already knew that.

31. Where would they live?

They like Republic City and decide to stay downtown, first in an apartment and eventually a larger townhouse.

32. What type of dragon would they own, if they could have one?

Whichever one Iroh made friends with. Asami is a bit wary of animals and would need him to convince her it was safe.

33. If they were both vampires, what type of vampires would they be?

The kind that live in a beautiful house with perfect collections that took hundreds of years to make. Iroh has first editions of everything in a giant library, arranged in a complex system only he understands. He’s working on his 14th language. Asami has invented artificial blood and doesn’t miss sunburns. Occasionally she’ll throw one of those big fancy vampire balls just so they can both get dressed up. They’re pretty happy.

34. What would they dress up as, for Halloween?

They once went as Lady Tienhai and the last king of Mo Ce because picking something obscure and historical was the only way to get Iroh into a costume.

35. Can they name each other’s favourite food?

Kind of. They are both really into food, so picking a favorite is hard. But if the question is can they order for one another, absolutely.

36. Do they have pet names for one another?

Asami sometimes calls Iroh “General Hotstuff” when she’s teasing. Iroh sometimes calls Asami “sex pretzel” when he’s 1000% sure they are alone.

37. How do they cheer each other up?

Asami is more of a gift giver. She’ll show up with Iroh’s favorite take-out or make him something in her workshop—anything to make him feel special and valued. Iroh is all about quality time, and will swing by Asami’s office to haul her out on surprise dates. He also gives great hugs.

38. Do they show a lot of PDA?

No. Iroh is very uncomfortable with PDA, especially when he’s in uniform. Asami follows his lead.

39. How old were they when they got together?

Asami was 19-20, Iroh 24-25.

They’d take turns, and at some point Asami would turn it into a contest.

Iroh. Asami is a terrible cook.

Not crazy, but Iroh and his ex are not on good terms. He doesn’t like to talk about it.

Iroh covers a lot of the basics. He sets a schedule, makes lunches, tells bedtime stories, is more likely to help with the homework. Asami is the one who gets them around and does most of the interacting with teachers, other parents, etc. They share things fairly equally.

Iroh.

68. Who listens to more vulgar music?

Asami.

69. Do either of them have secrets even the other doesn’t know?

Yes. Asami can be secretive about some of her projects, both out of an abundance of caution but also because she likes a big reveal. Iroh keeps some past relationship stuff close, and will occasionally read a steamy romance novel for “tips.”

Bolin and Opal

71. Do they tip the waiter/waitress on their date?

Iroh tips very well.

72. How do they work out a fight?

Asami yells. Iroh yells back. One of them storms off. The other one waits about half an hour then goes to find them, usually with an offering of food. There are hugs. Somebody cries. Then they finally talk it out before falling asleep together.

73. Who brings home an illegal pet?

Asami. She is less likely to have a pet, but if she does, it’s going to be a weird one.

74. What side of the bed do each of them sleep on?

Iroh is on the side by the window because he likes to get up with the sun.

75. What is their favorite photo of them two together?

There’s a photo Korra took at the beach where Iroh has Asami thrown over his shoulder right before dunking her in the water. This is the picture he takes with him when he’s deployed.

76. Who takes longer in the bathroom?

Asami.

Iroh. If you can call them songs.

78. What movie did they first see together?

Iroh took her to Last Days of the Sun Warriors. She fell asleep. He said the book was better.

Asami thinks Iroh’s butt looks great in jeans. Iroh got Asami a red silk robe from the Fire Nation and likes to see it fall off.

80. Who makes jokes during inappropriate times?

Iroh.

81. At what age do they discuss the possibility of children?

Mid-20s, though they don’t have them until a little later.

82. What do they love about each other the most?

Iroh likes that Asami is tough and smart and a problem-solver. Asami likes that Iroh is kind and brave and has a strong moral compass.

They are both big picture people, which is sometimes a problem. Of the two, Asami is probably better at details, but she’s also forgetful.

Asami would probably put up a picture of them and say something brief but sweet. Iroh doesn’t really understand social media and would just paste a heart-eyes emoji.

85. Who is bad at math?

Iroh. He’s not bad, per se, but Asami is very, very good.

Asami.

87. Who does stuff on impulse?

Both of them in different ways. Asami is generally more flexible. Iroh usually has a plan but makes big decisions completely off the cuff.

88. How do they comfort each other when they are helpless to do anything about the situation?

Lots of physical touch. Iroh will kind of just wrap himself around her in one giant, whole body hug. Asami will spend some time cursing out whomever is causing the issue, then let him lay his head in her lap and give Iroh a good head scratch or massage.

89. What is an inside joke they have?

There was one time they had sex in Asami’s office at Future Industries, so occasionally she’ll drop things like, “feel like coming by the office?” with a suggestive eyebrow waggle. Iroh is, predictably, very embarrassed. Also interested.

90. Who makes the other smile with almost no effort at all?

Asami: *exists* Iroh: *smiles*

91. What is their favourite holiday?

New Years is a big deal in the Fire Nation. Iroh loves his family and likes going home, and Asami has grown to love it almost as much.

92. Who is the one that is calm and collected while the other is angry and destructive?

They take turns. Both of them can have quite a temper when pushed too hard.

93. What is their favourite board game to play?

They’re both big Pai Sho fans, but can get into any kind of strategy game. Nobody really likes to play them though, they're too good.

94. Who accidentally sets something on fire?

Asami. Iroh hasn’t had a fire accident since he was four.

95. Who has the car ready while the other is robbing the store?

Asami. She’d rob the store, too, but no way is she letting Iroh drive.

96. What artist/group did they go to for their first concert?

Iroh booked a private box at the Republic City Opera, thinking that was an impressive thing he should do on a date. It turns out neither of them like opera, and by the end they were both making fun of it.

97. Who sleep talks?

Asami. Iroh thinks it’s funny.

98. Who is the more social one?

Asami, by a long shot.

99. What are their karaoke songs?

Neither of them would really sing karaoke, but Iroh cannot hold his liquor like at all so if he ever got really plastered Asami might be able to drag him up there. By which point he’d be too far gone to have an opinion on the song and would sing just about anything.

100. Who would get up on stage and make a fool of themselves just to make the other laugh?

Asami.

Is there any shows/movies you watch that arent anime that you like? Like cartoons, live action, etc? Have you heard of RWBY?

I used to watch stuff more actively, but I've fallen off.

But I've also kind of fallen off from anime/manga, too.

For ongoing manga for example, I now actively only follow One Piece and Dragon Ball Super and even then I fell behind OP for quite a while.

I fell behind My Hero Academia and since it seems to be heading towards the ending, I've decided to go back to it once it is done; I've kind of grown to have much more satisfaction in binging stories.

I think it's only recently I've tried to get into some anime/manga series again but not many seem to be working. So much new stuff feels like it is without any Identity of its own.

But going back to series/movies (live action stuff?) I've been even worse about that stuff.

I think the last live action series I remember watching and really loving was the HBO Chernobyl series. I think it still had that Hollywood dramatisation flavour in there, but I think it was an incredibly good depiction of not only the disaster, but also the society that created it and as someone living in a former Soviet Union country, I still recognise some of those hallmarks of that society as still being present today and how the countries under the Soviet regime are influenced by that regime to this day.

It jogged some really interesting memories.

To anyone interested and not in the know, though definitely heavy explicit content warning for it. It was genuinely extremely nauseating and hard to watch at points.

I've actually always been drawn much more towards any kind of cartoon (from eastern to western to anime) than I have towards live action stuff, well, live action movies and series that is.

Everyone else around me have been into like Game of Thrones, House, Scrubs, Lost. A bunch of stuff besides that.

My sister was into like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Bewitched (I think that's what the latter one with like the three witch women was called).

I sort of also caught like Xena the Warrior Princess and stuff when I was younger, all of these have been in my periphery, but I never really "paid attention" to them so to say.

From my childhood I have memories of some of movies like Home Alone and its sequel (they are in fact the only good ones), the Terminator movies (again only the first two are probably good), the Matrix movies (I kind of have a soft spot for all of them), a whole bunch of those dumb, probably not actually very good disaster movies like The Day After Tomorrow.

A lot of horror. Like The Shining and Alien and schlock stuff like the Resident Evil movies). I remember a lot of space horror stuff, actually. A whole bunch of it came on after I stayed up for way too late and I probably was exposed to a lot of it much younger than I should've been.

But the thing with much of this stuff is that I've seen most of it only once and I don't remember most of it down to the detail.

I have not seen a bunch of the big "classics" like any of Stanley Kubrick's or David Lynch's stuff, "cult" stuff like Bladerunner or some of the "pop culture/nerd" stuff like any Star Trek series. I've never fully seen the Lord of the Rings movies for example, either, only bits and pieces.

There is so much stuff I know I haven't seen I'd like to eventually get to.

As for cartoons, from Disney I have at least some level of like for Mulan, the old and new Fantasia movies, Frozen, Hunchback of Notre Dame, but I also remember liking Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Princess and the Frog in particular. Disney's stuff has the wierd effect of having sincerety in there, but at points being undercut by strange leaps of "this is definitely for children in this forced way now" to me.

From Pixar movies my favourites are Ratatouille, Wall-E, Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. Pixar feels like a "fully sincere" Disney.

Hmm. There is also DreamWorks. Shrek and Ice Age, I think. Shrek is a meme. The first movie maybe has a positive message about appearance not mattering in there, but a lot of it is kind of wierd and mean-spirited. I think I genuinely like the first Ice Age movie.

Watched a bunch of Cartoon Network cartoons: Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Megas XLR (100% deserved more episodes btw, was a blast), Dexter's Laboratory, Samurai Jack.

Old cartoons like Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes.

Spent much less time with Nickelodeon stuff, but I remember liking early Spongebob.

Futurama and early Simpsons were very good.

As for RWBY, I saw the first few episodes I think back when it dropped, but it was ugly and did nothing for me in terms of writing.

Felt something like an old Newgrounds series/a bad 3D animation I occasionally see around with equally bad fanfic writing.

Turns out I've consumed a lot of stuff and there is probably a whole bunch of stuff besides this I've consumed, too.

Good Bad Ugly - Pillars of Eternity

I’m writing this to get some closure. This game has set up an embargo in my brain, and I need to write this to put it behind me so I can move on.

Pillars of Eternity is a spiritual successor to the Baldur’s Gate games of the 1990’s.

I have a love-hate relationship with the game. It seems the world at large doesn’t, with a score of 89 on Metacritic. Read on for what I think…

I didn’t get too far into the game. Made it to Defiance Bay, and did a number of quests there. Is that far enough to get a good idea of the game? I think so.

One nifty feature is the ability to add your own character art. I stole mine from Deviant Art. Before you click the link... can you guess which one is mine (as opposed to the rest, which are in-game characters)?

The Good

Spot-On Spiritual Successor. It is a good remake of the Baldur’s Gate games. It updates the look and feel but keeps the spirit alive.

Engaging Characters. I liked most of the party members. Some were endearing enough that I wanted to keep them around. Some had story things going on that I really wanted to uncover. I truly did enjoy talking to them, following their stories, and listening to their voice acting. (Except Durance. He seemed like the person from D&D who plays “Chaotic Neutral”. You can stay on the crossroads, Durance, and find yourself some other party.)

Pretty and Polished. It’s technically limited but I don’t hold that against a game born of Kickstarter. The environments are pretty and the user interface is pleasant. The combat goes above and beyond with some pretty effects.

Difficulty Options. Lots of options to fiddle with difficulty. Want to have hard combat but no restrictions on accessing your global inventory stash? You can do that.

Pew, pew! Many of the spells have pyrotechnic flair.

The Bad

Normally, with these, I use dot-points to keep myself on-track and terse. Forgive me, I’m departing from that for the first point.

Real-Time With Pause

Real-time with pause is a means of controlling your characters where everything happens simultaneously (like it does in reality) but you can pause at any time to plan and action things carefully. This is opposed to turn-based where characters take turns, either individually or as a group. Pillars only supports real-time with pause.

Which is better? It’s a matter of taste, of course, and it’s controversial.

As for me? I hate real-time with pause.

Actually, let me walk that back a little. I hate it unless the game gives you a flexible AI system for “programming” your characters. Like Dragon Age did (to my approval).

Pillars sort-of has AI options. But they’re rubbish. Choose your poison: turn it on and correct the dumb things it does, or turn it off and do every little thing yourself.

But that’s not fair, is it, saying I have to “do every little thing” myself? After all, isn’t that literally what happens in a turn-based game? So it’s not as simple as that. For some reason I get pissed off when the fighter doesn’t take two steps to the left to attack an enemy really close to him in Pillars, but I don’t get angry when I have to do much the same in Divinity: Original Sin.

I think it has something to do with irritation and interruption. I can’t concentrate on one thing in a real-time with pause game. I have to constantly be watching. Is the fighter close enough? Has the archer stopped firing because she killed her last target? Is the wizard about to be attacked in melee? If so: pause, fix, resume.

In a turn-based game my concentration is on one thing at a time. Sure, I have a grander strategy in my head. But when I’m creeping my rogue up for a sneaky flanking attack I don’t have to keep an eye on whether the fighter needs a healing potion or the chanter has charged up enough song-power to cast a decent spell. That can wait.

I found myself dreading combat in Pillars. That’s not a good sign. Contrast with the Divinity: Original Sin Games, where I loved to lose because it meant I could re-try the same combat again.

The old “bottleneck-in-the-door” trick eh? Tried and true.

And now back to bullet-points for the other Bad things:

Obscure Rules System. Obviously they couldn’t pinch D&D’s RPG system, so they cooked up their own. I only vaguely understood it. Is (for example) “Accuracy (+10) vs. Reflex” is good or mediocre? No idea. I’m picking equipment and character level-up perks based on loose guesses. Now this might be mostly because real-time with pause smears combat into an unintelligible soup. Maybe I would’ve gotten a better sense of things if I could see things happen action-by-action?

A Load of Lackluster Lore. The game’s lore is cliché, it’s boring, and it’s waved in your face. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t rise above mediocre.

The Ugly

There’s only one Ugly thing, but it’s a big one!

Bad Backer Bunkum

Pillars was a Kickstarter game, and so they added extra pledge tiers to entice bigger donations. That’s fair enough in and of itself. But they took it too far.

Pledge US$ 1,000 or more: NAME AND DESIGN AN NPC (Non-Player Character). Help us design PROJECT ETERNITY! We will send you a PROJECT ETERNITY NPC character sheet for you to fill out for our design team. We will turn your personalized character design, with your name, class, and race into an NPC in the shipped game (within reason of course)

I don’t care about the price levels. Caveat emptor. What I care about is seeing masturbatory fan-fiction spread across the game world! It was everywhere.

The gravestones and memorials, carved with idiot memes and smug in-jokes, I could at least ignore.

The backer NPCs were harder to ignore. They looked like rejects from an anime game, standing on street corners and crowding out the locals at the village tavern.

If I accidentally clicked on one – thinking it might be an actually-important NPC – I was presented with a bit of donor-supplied fan-fiction.

I know I didn’t have to read them… but how could I look away? Even after being cleaned up by Obsidian for spelling, grammar, and continuity sins they are awful, edgy, Mary Sue yarns. There’s a drinking game in these.

(Though sometimes I was surprised. I remember enjoying a wholesome one about a character buying an old tavern and getting to work on renovations while dreaming of running a new business.)

Conclusion

Right at the start I mentioned I was partially writing this so I can leave this game unfinished. It’s not an awful game. I wanted to play through it just to enrich playing its (reportedly better) sequel. But I can’t bare to baby-sit my brain-dead party through a hundred more combats. Nor would I want to turn on Story Mode and play a game like this just for its mixed-quality story.

I’ve got a few turn-based palette-cleansers in mind. Here’s hoping they’re good.

An otherwise-decent game ruined (in my humble opinion) by real-time with pause combat coupled with poor party-member AI. If you are tolerant of real-time with pause, you might fare a lot better.

Favorite Story You Wrote: WELL, SHIT. I HATE THIS QUESTION. Weirdly enough, one of my favourites is a super rarepair three-chapter fic called Stealth Trials, a Horizon Zero Dawn fic that pairs Aloy with one of the Keepers from the Carja hunting grounds. The Keeper is such a minor character that he doesn’t even have a fucking name. WHATEVER, HE’S HOT AND I’M TRASH.

Story You Were Nervous to Post: Fix You, a little post-Trespasser Blackwall/Arya Lavellan story that revolves around Arya and Blackwall trying to cope with the loss of her arm. I wasn’t so much nervous about posting this as nervous about the fact that I knew basically no one would read it. But I thought the story was important, so I wrote it anyway, and I had fun doing it.

How Do You Choose Your Titles: HAHAHAHAHAHA. @schoute knows how much I hate doing this. I used to give my shit really dumb cheesy titles, and now I think I’m better at it. Often it’s a song lyric or title (e.g. Lovers In A Dangerous Time for Fenquisition), or it’s a phrase that encompasses the theme of the piece (e.g. Become Human for Cole/Lavellan), or it can be a line of dialogue or a prop that plays a big role in the fic (e.g. Where The Winds Of Fortune Take Me for pirate AU, or Underpants for a Fenris/Rynne oneshot about... well, underpants).

Do You Outline: yes yes yes. The outline is flexible, and unplanned ideas or conversations will often come up mid-writing where I’m like “AWW YISSSS THIS IS GOOD SHIT”. But overall, yes, I’m an outliner.

The exception, though, is the pirate AU, Where The Winds Of Fortune Take Me. I haven’t been planning it more than like, 2 chapters ahead, and IDK REALLY WHERE IT’S GOING NEXT HAHAHA I BLAME @schoute FOR THIS

Complete: Most of my fics are complete. I won’t bore you guys by listing them. The oneshot/drabble collections like What Pride Will Not Forget (Solavellan) remain perpetually incomplete because I add to them when I feel like it. My only unfinished longfics are the ones I’m currently working on.

In IR lore, what are the personalities of your personas? Basic likes and dislikes?

Kristen: Goggles is An Child and behaves as such. She's very cheerful, very curious, a bit mischievous and also 100% obsessed with making fanwork of her internet family... like a goddamn weirdo. She'll usually be hanging out with everyone, spot some sort of inspiration, squeak with joy and then rush off to write or draw. She's also the defacto leader of the Smol Squad, which is composed of herself, Shyner, Jojo and Chi-chi, and she's usually the one squeaking out ridiculous plans in muppet for dumb shit like stealing cookies and trying to trap people in fanfiction scenarios. She likes to help and can often be found doing such things as assisting Xander in his many schemes or just popping up to provide shit like charts or hold things for other people- basically whenever it would be funny to have some goddamn muppet backing something up.

She loves plush toys, particularly Crockernanner, and also loves sugar, star decorations, and cuddles. She likes being picked up and loves attention, and she's pretty consistently attached to at least one person, often her big brother Split if she's not with the Smol Squad. She is in eternal war with Phill since he bullies her constantly, and will occasionally try to set up elaborate traps for revenge only to fail miserably. Also she's a huge weeb. She does not like to sleep and will often go days without it before being dragged off by some bigger person to take a goddamn nap you ridiculous child. She is also very afraid of thunderstorms, she doesn't like loud noises or the dark.

She also has... various flaws and problems. But those are spoilers and I have no idea when/if we’ll be doing story stuff with IRsonas so I don’t want to give too much away with that.

Sorry this is very long, I think about my child a lot.

Jojo: JoJo is also a very happy child... like, stupid happy all the time. Like, they don't really have a concept of being angry. they're either manic happy or a bit sad. They love to find any way to make anybody smile or laugh, whether it be a somber happy, or a crying fit of laughter. They thrive off of happiness. They're a bit mischievous as well, and will try to play pranks and swipe things to chew on. They'll just appear in random places you'd never expect. like, in the pantry, the vent, or in your drawer. They chew things all the time to keep their dragon teeth sharp! They do tend to come off as obnoxious and kind of useless sometimes? But that's ok.

They love happiness, rocks, swimming, sandwiches, Vanilla coke, coffee, pianos, stars, ghost stuff(horror genre), and laughter. JoJo is pretty similar to Goggles now that I think about it x_xJoJo is best friends with Phill, and will always be on him in some way. Like his leg, back, holding onto his scarf by their teeth, etc. They're also very close with Goggles and Shyner, and Scott (even though Shyner tries to chase JoJo off with knives, JoJo will take it as a game of tag or something)JoJo doesn't like being yelled at or being told to go away. They get spooked easily by loud noises. They always get paranoid when they think someone is mad at them and will go to ungodly lengths to make them not mad or slightly annoyed with them, which sometimes makes people more annoyed with them than they were before.

JoJo is just an exaggerated version of me XD

Atwas: Atwas is fairly easy going. They make light of things often, and often hide serious sentiments behind jokes. They’re the type to roll with goofy and silly situations, and are very “yes and” type that enjoys escalating things in the name of light-hearted fun. They enjoy playing pranks, especially ones that take advantage of their hologrammatic nature (being able to enter and ‘possess’ electronics is something that they take advantage of often). Shyner: Shyner can easily be summed up to a tsundere in denial, and is the definition of an agent of chaos. If something goes wrong, she’s the one pouring a trail of kerosene to let the fire spread. She's loud, impulsive, and really doesn't give two shits. While quirky and charismatic, she’s also sarcastic and witty, reveling in the amusement of making fun of others. She’s often stubborn and impatient, thinking highly of her own beliefs and angered by those who dare to challenge her ideals. She also lacks a filter, and enjoys garnishing her words with colorful profanities. Filled with gripes of past trauma, she’s engaged in a constant internal war of turmoil and grief. She’s incredibly cautious and closed off around those she doesn’t trust, and can be very selfish. Despite this, she’s loyal to the few people she cares about, going out of her way to put them first if a dire situation were to arise. She’s also very sneaky and mischievous, often finding amusement in spying on others. Her MBTI is INTP-T.

Her hobbies include stargazing, ghost hunting, spying, and Satanic worship. She enjoys melancholy vibes, horror movies, animals, thunderstorms, and has an unhealthy obsession with sweets. Yes, this child will stab you without hesitancy if you take her cookies. She dislikes seafood, big crowds, kiddie leashes, and is afraid of experiencing intense emotion she doesn’t understand.I love my satanic smol bean very much. If I may be so bold as to dive into the nitty-gritty psychology, Shyner possesses many flaws, a lot of which I personally struggled with growing up. She is a reflection of my past self, some gripes with my current self, and the perception of how I could have turned out if I hadn’t met my family at IR. Hiding behind the exterior of being a merciless bully, she still has an intense internal desire to be a good person, but gets frustrated and often derails herself in the process of fighting her desire to act on impulse. She keeps most relationships with people at arm's length, fearing that if someone were to think highly of her, it would only be a matter of time before they’re disappointed. If we were to go full-fledged story mode, she would most definitely have an intense character redemption arc, making the revelation that being shitty to those who care about her isn’t the way to run from her problems and hide away from her own sense of self-insecurity/hatred.

Moon: 2019 Moon is an idiot. If we didn't know any better, we would assume he was born from nothing but an old head of lettuce in Satan's refrigerator. Think like Scott from Monster Prom, but different. He knows his right from his left, but the compass is still just "NESW" to him. Impulsive, lovable, and kinda loud, this muscley dumbass will do practically anything you tell him to if he finds it enjoyable. When paired with a few people, he works well as a second to many dynamic duos. Brodingles and Moon/Split and Moon are two really good ones, dangerous shenanigans ensue. Can and will rap like a beast, any challenge to a freestyle will result in a career ending and a death being sentenced. Extroverted people pleaser, definitely shooting high to perform and when adapting to a character, goes a little too hard. This man played Gander in Charlottes Web and didn't stop making goose sounds for months. Did I mention he's also a disney princess? Singing, animals, mortal enemy falling to their death? Everything

Dawn: ToonWolf/Dawn's personality falls within the confines of recklessly adventurous who doesn't think things through entirely. They like to try and rope others into going on various hikes, treasure hunts, mythic/cryptid searches, etc. Unapologetic sailor mouth. They will fight for friends and family. Various animals, trinkets, treasures, and cool but useless garbage are brought back to the tower often (oops theres a liiiiiiitle bit of hoarding). Sometimes those animals consist of dogs, cats, lizards, bears, wolves, The Great Noble One, horses, lions, elk, you get the idea (Can I keep them?Pleeeeeeeaaaaaaaaseeeeee??????????).

Overall they are most comfortable and relaxed in/around water and likes a whole lotta things including sailing, swimming, adventure, stargazing, animals, mythology/legends, friends, family, and drawing.

They dislike waking up early, limitations, being talked down to, boredom, desert/hot/humid/dry weather, coffee, and the movie "Cube"

Tex: Tex is an avid cryptid detective + has a surprisingly good intuition when creating conspiracy theories about them to follow. Mm lots of memes and disguises. Smart, but usually just off on their own thinking about other stuff.Totally has a wall in their room dedicated to figuring all the cryptids out with like, red string and everything.

((Hello guys, I have some hot fuckin’ tea, and it’s about Yamcha. Come join the tea party and take a sip, babes.

Alright, so for context, there was conversation on @dragon-ball-meta [sorry if you think it’s weird to be tagged in a random rp blog’s post I will delete it from the post if you want me to-] about the potential of a pairing between Android Eighteen and Yamcha, the majority agreeing that the pairing really didn’t make a lot of sense. No big deal, right?

Then comes one user, I will not name them because I don’t want to turn this into a witch hunt, who basically argued “IT DOESN’T WORK BECAUSE YAMCHA IS SEXIST TRASH”

And it. Really annoyed me, you know? Especially since there seems to be this trend of shitting on Yamcha for dumb or made up reasons.

And if you know me, you know that I can’t stand people shitting on him and Krillin.

Now, Dragon Ball Meta has done a good job in rebutting against their arguments, but I wish to make a response of my own, since this character assassination has been going on for years, and I think it’s time to stop.

Fuck your memes, the only valid Yamcha meme anymore is Yamcha juggling turtle shells.

Now before I start, I’d like to preface a few things.

First, no, I do not ship Eighteen and Yamcha. Not only because of the context that Dragon Ball Meta has pointed out, but because their general characters would really make the ship make no sense. Yamcha’s fear of girls would really not mesh well with Eighteen’s ‘spit it out’ kinda attitude. Not to mention, as much as I like Bulcha, Bulma is proof that bossy women just aren’t the best match for Yamcha. He’s too passive to make the relationship work. Yamcha is so afraid of getting dumped that he just nervously accepts that she’s right, and sometimes your partner needs to be told that they’re wrong. And while Eighteen is quieter, she’s kinda bossy too. So no, I don’t see this ship working, with or without Krillin.

Second, just so there’s no mistake, no, this is not me arguing against Dragon Ball Meta. I might elaborate, or even correct him on a few things on the subject, but in general, I agree with his assessment of Yamcha’s character. This is a response to one of the users that reblogged his post. Please do not think for a second I’m trying to start beef or anything.

Also, the person will not be name dropped because one, again, no witch hunt, and two, this is unfortunately an opinion of Yamcha that the majority of the fanbase seems to hold. So I will be arguing them all to fuck.

And if you find out who it is by going to DBM’s blog, do not, I repeat, do not harass them. If you do, I will block you. No exceptions! I don’t care if you’re following me, I don’t care if you like my writing and my characterization, I don’t even care if we’re mutuals. If you harass someone over works of fiction, you’re fucking dead to me.

Third, I know that being a Yamcha roleplayer might make me biased, but believe me, in order to write for this character, I had to do a fuck ton of research, especially since I’m actually relatively new to the series [I fuckin started binge watching it last year from Dragon Ball to Dragon Ball Super, still debating on watching GT], reading up on anything that I missed so that I can stay as true to his character as possible.

That being said, the research I’ve done on this series and this character is why I think the notion of Yamcha being sexist, a cheater, etc. is erroneous.

Now, Let’s begin.

You really don’t bring up a lot of points, your main ones being one, he sees girls as objects and not people, and two, he cheated on Bulma [ah that classic misconception among fans], So I will shoot them down one at a time.

One; You claim that Yamcha is sexist, that he sees girls as objects and things to be exploited.

... When?

No, I mean it, give me one fucking example. You made the claim, the burden of proof is on you, as the one making the argument. I’ll even provide links that let you view the mangas and animes for free so you can point me to one manga panel, one episode with the time that it happens. Give me one example, and I might, might, take that claim seriously.

You also say that he feels justified in his fear and distrust of women, so he’s sexist.

Uhm....? No??? You’re right that he’s afraid of women, but distrustful??? The fuck did that come from?

Oh, but you might zone in on the fear and be like, “That’s proof enough that he’s sexist!”

Uuuuuhhhhh no.

See, fear can mean different things depending on what it’s bred by. With things such as homophobia, transphobia, and, yes, sexism, those are fears bred by hate.

In Yamcha’s case, it’s clear that that’s not his case of fear. Not only does he express his want to get over his fear so he can talk to a girl without freezing up or being a blabbering mess, hence his motivation for trying to steal the Dragon Balls from Goku and the others, but the other characters’ outright point out that he’s shy. On numerous occasions. Usually by Bulma, but still.

Not to mention that usually his reactions to being around a girl or being flirted with by one, it’s usually very anxious, leaving me to believe that he’s got some sort of social anxiety going on.

If you need proof, look no further than episode six of Dragon Ball “Keep an Eye on the Dragon Balls”, where it shows various instances of Yamcha going into panic attacks over Bulma, even going into an outright catatonic state when he realizes he accidentally grabbed Bulma’s boob. [which also discredits the notion of Yamcha seeing girls like objects, as he’s constantly horrified of seeing and touching a naked girl. If he saw girls as objects, he would have been creeping on her all to hell.]

The only reason he got over his fear with Bulma is because her safety was in jeopardy, and he had to put his fear aside to protect her. Once again, this discredits the idea of him seeing women as beneath him, as well as your other point, which I will get to in a while.

“But why is he only like that with girls?” you might ask. Well, not only is there several real life examples of boys being too shy around girls and feeling more at home with talking to boys, Yamcha has expressed wanting to get married one day. And as someone with social anxiety myself, I do find it very hard to approach people IRL because I’m afraid of being judged, if it makes sense. So it’s very easy to argue that the same could apply to Yamcha, just with girls his age.

Two; Your argument is that he cheated on Bulma and that in general, any ship with him would be abusive.

Uhm??? The only source for the cheating issue was Trunks, who got it from his mother... Who’s known to misunderstand situations Yamcha finds himself in as him cheating. Who’s known to get jealous if a girl shows interest in him, not him showing interest in the girl, but the girl showing interest in him.

Not to mention, does this look like someone that’s willing to cheat?

Because to me this looks more like someone that takes his relationship with Bulma seriously and wants to take it further. And remember, the only prompting was Goku telling Bulma to “take care of the baby” with no context.

Oh, also here’s the link to the manga page so you know I’m not bullshitting.

Oh, what’s that? You’re going to bring up the episode in Dragon Ball Z where it shows him as a baseball player? Where not only were they broken up at the time when he asked someone to go on a date with him and was talking with another girl, but the entire episode was also filler? Once again, think back to his shyness. Even Toriyama confirmed that it’s always going to be there.

“Oh but then you’ll have to say all the fun stuff like Chichi making Goku learn to drive and Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu kicking the Ginyu Force’s ass.” you may say.

I mean. Yeah. It’s not canon. But unless it’s deconfirmed by Toriyama himself or doesn’t contradict established characterization, then we can still imagine that they happened. Most of the filler are things happening during timeskips anyways, or just don’t happen during the main story, so it’s really up to the imagination what all happened, and Toei did just that.

You also claim that Yamcha behaves like a fuckboi, to which I have to say bitch where?

Yeah, he was a bit annoyed that Bulma had Vegeta’s child, but that was never, I repeat, never directed at Bulma, or Trunks for that matter. In fact, by the looks of it, he was helping Bulma take care of him. It’s quite clearly directed at Vegeta.

Why?

Simply put, Yamcha’s ultimate goal was to settle down and start a family. And not only does Vegeta do that, with his ex no less, but he also just... Completely ignores them.

Can you imagine how infuriating that is, not even flaunting something they have that you don’t, but completely ignoring it like it’s nothing.

Vegeta had started this family, the family that could have been Yamcha’s, and he wasn’t even willing to take responsibility for it.

Now I’m not trying to imply that Yamcha was owed anything or that Bulma owed anyone anything. Hell, I don’t think Yamcha thought that either. I’m just trying to illustrate his mindset.

And you know what? After the Cell Games Saga, he stopped being cross with Vegeta. He’s still friendly with Bulma and Trunks, and he’s even friendly with Vegeta. Hell, when Bulla was born, he was excited to meet her.

Pretty sure if he were a fuckboy, he’d be trying to win Bulma back.

But no, he’s content with being friends with Bulma and her family. Because, at least I think, he cares about what she wants and what makes her happy. I think so long as she’s happy with what she has, then he’s happy too.

Does that sound like a fuckboy to you?

“Well then why did they break up? Are you saying Bulma did something wrong?”

No.

Just like in real life, sometimes break ups don’t happen because one slighted the other.

Sometimes things just don’t work out.

Think about it, throughout the series, up until the Android Arc, their relationship has been on and off, usually Bulma accusing him of cheating. And like I pointed out earlier in the post, Yamcha is just too passive to make the relationship work. If he were more assertive and willing to stand his ground and assure her that no, he’s not cheating, then maybe it would have had a better chance of working.

I think at this point, the healthiest thing for them was that they stopped being in this relationship. For good.

And if their break up was really the result of one of them wronging each other, they would not still be friends.

So, can we end this character assassination? It’s been going on for yeas, and it needs to stop. Same with Krillin’s character assassination.

The memes may have been funny once upon a time, but they’re getting old now. And people are starting to view them as canon.

It makes me incredibly happy that people want to hear about my dumb children, even when I take upwards to a week to get around to organizing an answer. I have everything under a read more so the post doesn’t end up getting too long (I talk way too much) but if people are interested in seeing my DA characters around more, I could start producing more content ??? Feel free to tag me in oc memes or send in asks at any time! I could even devote a few separate posts for some character profiles if people are interested !

My Warden is a wip so we’ll keep them in purgatory for the time being

These are mine and my friend ( @outtsiders-mark)’s Hawke twins though!

We decided to bend canon and make disaster twins because honestly what’s the fun in having one depressed Hawke when you can have TWO depressed Hawkes?? Adrien Hawke (on the left) is my friend’s, and Elias Hawke (on the right) is mine ! Adrien’s a rogue that’s at least 85% feral, whereas Elias is a Chronically Tired Mage. Elias is polite enough, but he really, really does not have time for anyone’s bullshit. He’s fond of being overly dramatic to lighten the mood in certain situations, but is otherwise just a friendly, reasonable guy. Who might have a bit of a drinking problem.

In my world state, Elias romanced Fenris and ultimately sided with the mages. He’s a spirit healer/force mage, though his combat spells are fire and ice based when he’s not healing people in the party. He knows a branch of lightning magic, but doesn’t tend to rely on it. Elias’s magic tends to physically manifest in small ways whether he wants it or not, and it’s responsible for turning his hair color ash-y. Like a dead fire. His magic is heavily tied to his mood, too; anger causes his eyes to turn vaguely red (like hot coals), his body heat to raise, and embers to trail along his breath; anxiety and worry cause him to become static-y, sometimes going so far as to have lightning streaks traveling along his arms; and deep misery/sadness causes ice to turn his fingers black and blue, his arms frosty, his breath misty, and it can drop his body temperature. He tries to keep his magic in check whenever he’s with Fenris because he doesn’t want to remind him of any unpleasantries he suffered in Teviner, but luckily it doesn’t tend to be a huge concern

Adrien is the older twin (for those of you that want to keep count), but it was mutually agreed when their father passed that Elias should step up to watch over the family. When Lothering fell, Adrien smeared his face in a defiant “bad shit has happened to us, and I’m going to fight until we’re out of it”, and Elias kept everyone on track and as together as he possibly could while they tried to seek safety from the Blight. Upon arriving in Kirkwall, Elias devoted himself to fixing his uncle’s unbelievably huge screw up and he worked toward giving his family the life they deserved. He never expected to get tangled into half of the stuff he did, but he found strength in his siblings (Bethany and Carver are both alive here :D) and their dear mother. That was enough, for a while. Until Kirkwall took that from him. Elias blames himself for what happened to Leandra, and I sincerely doubt he will ever forgive himself for not being able to do anything more in response to Quentin. He got reckless for a time following the events of their mother’s death and nearly got killed in an alleyway ambush. (He admittedly almost didn’t fight back, but knew he couldn’t leave Adrien behind like that.) And as if all of that wasn’t enough, the Qunari decide to burn half the city and take more from all of them. Elias fought the Arishok in single combat, much to Adrien’s distress (he had to actually be physically restrained by Fenris the entire time), but Elias wasn’t going to let anyone else get hurt when he can take the pain for them. Elias got his facial scar in that fight (he damn near got his head chopped in half, but managed to stumble back in time for the blow to graze him), and he ended up also sustaining a chest wound that would’ve killed him had he not used his ice-based spells to take down the Arishok when he did. He ended up passing out for a few days afterwards (mostly due to magical exertion on top of loss of blood), taken care of by Anders and Adrien while he remained unconscious. (And although Elias and Fenris weren’t exactly together at that point due to Fenris leaving him, Fenris still showed up to make sure Elias was okay. He kept sneaking in until Adrien told him it was fine for him to visit normally.) Elias did everything he could for the people he cared about after that, even sometimes at his own detriment. It never got easier, though.

ALSO, because I like the parallel, one of my favorite aspects of Elias is that he got a scar in the same place his twin applied his war paint. Adrien chose to turn their loses into a quiet defiance. He uses the paint as a reminder that the fight’s not over yet. Elias.. was marked permanently. He now has a constant reminder that he’ll never escape his failures and that he’ll never be able to forget everything he and his family have lost. All this shit that keeps happening to them? It’ll never really be over. Not for Elias. And I think about that a lot.

Next is my Inquisitor, Vaughn Lavellan! He’s currently my icon, but I have screenshots of him too

He’s a trans Inquisitor ! He’s in a romance with Dorian and neither of them deserve what the game kept doing to them. He’s also best friends with my friend @outtsiders-mark‘s character Skylar! She is a constant menace to everyone and Vaughn honestly really appreciates that she’s around to listen and remind everyone to have some fun once and a while

Vaughn’s an archer rogue with an assassin specialization. He’s weirdly nimble and knows how to be incredibly effectively lethal (something, I think, is helped by the fact he’s a hunter for Clan Lavellan), but luckily Vaughn is not nearly as spooky out of combat. He’s a sweet guy that genuinely cares about pretty everyone he meets despite the general animosity he gets from being a Dalish Elf. He’s an optimist that likes to assume the best in people (even despite the fact a human once took a knife to his face and left a scar on his left cheek), and he can be incredibly charming and charismatic when a certain Tevinter mage isn’t making him flustered over something. Vaughn is highly curious, loves to learn, and he can be quite clever and cunning. He likes to tease people when he’s feeling playful, but he’s otherwise reserved and content with watching people’s interactions.

Some other cool notes; Vaughn is a bilingual disaster!! He eventually even starts learning Tevene for Dorian, too, but never breaks his habit of getting phrases mixed up across the languages he knows. He keeps a small organized journal that he presses plants and flowers he discovers while traveling Thedas into. He always writes notes of what the flowers remind him of, or otherwise he keeps a history of his party’s travels in it. (And because he’s a nerd, flowers that remind him of Dorian get marked with a heart. Don’t tell anyone I told you that.) Vaughn loves the outdoors and he’d sped entire days in trees if someone let him, but somehow, he is ENTIRELY inept at traveling across rocky terrain. No one is sure why. It’s just an understood norm that Vaughn ultimately manages to find a way to fall off yet another cliff and most of the Inner Circle have come to accept that he’s fine when it happens. It never fails to scare some poor unsuspecting soldier stationed at a camp, though. Also, Vaughn is constantly on the move. He’s always weaving in and out of areas, stopping in to ask people how he can help, and checking in on everyone’s general well-being. Aside from wanting to offer whatever he can to those that need it, the reason he never stops is because he has a severe fear of the future (phobia levels) and keeping himself busy means he doesn’t have to think about anything but the present. Being around his friends helps ground him, and being with Dorian makes him feel more secure than anything else can. Dorian just feels like the one sure thing that could possibly come of his life, and this, of course, goes just about as well as you expect it does when Dorian tells him “oh, I’ve decided I need to go back to Tevinter.” Vaughn supports him and is proud of what he wants to set out to do, but it makes him really panicky and he gets depressed for a while at the idea he might lose the love of his life. It’s rough. Luckily they work it out, but if I kept talking about Dorian and Vaughn’s relationship I think I’d have 5 more paragraphs askhfd

I’m starting to lose any coherent order to this, but I wanted to bring up that most of what Vaughn does in the Inquisition is for the sake of his clan. He wasn’t raised by proper parents (his birth parents left him, for one reason or another. I haven’t worked it out yet), so he ended up raised by the community at large. He does his best to honor his family and his home (that’s why his tattoos correspond to the elven goddess Sylaise despite Vaughn having major wanderlust!) and he’s incredibly devoted to the Dalish’s culture and religion. He doesn’t often get confrontational about anything, but being called The Herald of Andraste is one of the few things he’ll actively deny and correct people on. (He’s never rude about it, but he is unbelievably tired of people not respecting his beliefs.) He is happy to be in a position to make a difference for the elves, though, and actively tries to set a good example for his people and help ease the relationship between elves and humans. Celene and Briala ended up ruling together because of this, and Vaughn drank from the Well of Sorrows in order to try to reclaim what he could for the elves. (He felt incredibly guilty for putting Dorian through more stress, but he made it up to him later by spending a quiet evening with him.) Vaughn’s not sure if anything he’s doing is making any real difference, especially after Solas and his shenanigans, but he hopes that he’s making a change in the world. A good one.

I think I have a billion other things to say about my Inquisitor, but I think that’s a good summary for now! I love Vaughn to death

And my last character, Vayne Lavellan

He’s Vaughn’s weird problematic older brother (that Vaughn didn’t even know he has) and he’s an asshole. Although he’s a mage, he has a weird thing for daggers? He doesn’t use them in active combat, of course, but he always carries at least one on him. In case he needs to stab someone in the kidneys, I suppose

Vayne’s actual involvement in a major work in progress, so all I have for now is his personality. He’s reserved, cunning, rather forward, incredibly sarcastic, and really is only ever in it for himself. He’s well aware of his capabilities and knows how to intimidate people, so he tends to hold himself well. All of his movements are careful and deliberate and he seems to carry with him an aura that he knows more than he should. Or lets on to, for that matter. He’s calm and scheming and doesn’t ever really come off as inherently terrible, though. His alignment in somewhere between Lawful Evil and Chaotic Evil (he hides it well) and although he might be a bastard hell child for now, he’s going to get a redemption arc eventually ! I think. If he doesn’t get himself snapped in half for saying something or trying to stab someone, at least

Some content to look forward to, though, if all works out:

Vayne being dragged kicking and screaming into carrying about others

He is set to eventually adopt a stray kitten he names Falon

Brother bonding! Vaughn teaching Vayne proper Dalish traditions because he’s been missing and/or outcasted from their Clan for years

Vayne experiencing more emotions than “vaguely annoyed” and “I could go for some causal assassination” and feeling incredibly awkward about his new emotions and experiences

Vayne?? trying legitimately to be a better friend to people???

Sad Vayne content after he’s been redeemed. “I’m not what anyone wants, and frankly I don’t deserve any softness the world has to offer me. I’m fine with that; I set myself down this path.”

He becomes the weird vaguely benevolent mage that hangs out in the rafters of various buildings in Skyhold

he will still stab someone in the kidney tho if they deserve it

Davos, Edd and Tormund & BRIENNE OF FUCKING TARTH, also why Daenarys isn't the one for Jon(also I'm the Valonqar of Jonareys)

Ever since Jon and Sansa reunited the intense breathing, the constant eye fucking that they do with each other and all of that innappropiate tension, three men and Brienne, have literally been the only few people in the show to see the tension, like when Dadvos said "jon isn't a stark" and sansa replies "no, but I am"

She literally and very subtly proposed to Jon, and Davos and Edd shoot a look at each other

Like our Boi GRRM, Jon has a major thing for redheads, partly because Catelyn never gave him love, so in a way Jon tries to find a redhead that he can get validation as well as support, and Jon does the same for Sansa, he understands how she felt after everything she went through (Joffery, Ramsey & littlefinger and in the books there's like 2 other dudes who want Sansa's claim to winterfell) so she's been abused, raped and defiled, she feels at her strongest when Jon is with her, he also sees her need for recognition, remember Jon would have died at the BoTB or as I like to say bastardbowl, if Sansa hadn't gone to Moat Cailin to get the KoTV, Jon would have been food for Ramsay's dogs, it was her who won the battle. All being said and done, Jon does feel indebted to Sansa, she was in the prime leadership spot, but Northern Lords crowned Jon, he doesn't want the Crown, but he doesn't want Sansa to be fucked over by the power the Northern Crown gives her, he loves her and wants to protect her.

Also just wanted to point out that Jon didn't tell Danny much, she knows about Robb and Rickon, then later finds out that Arya and Bran are alive, which only happened because the raven was sent to Dragonstone and seen as Danny controls the area, she's obviously gonna know what's on the scroll. Then there's the whole Jon dying thing that was abruptly stopped by Jon when Dadvos said "he gave his own lif-" then later Danny sees that he was stabbed. Also Jon knew Maester Aemon Targaryen, why didnt Jon say anything? He doesn't trust her, she's impulsive and she's bathed in her own words "fire and blood", Jon gave away as much as SHE needed to know.

And when Jon left WF, Sansa didn't stop looking in Jon's direction the entire fucken time, and the Littlefingers like (hmm, when brothers and sister develop certain feelings towards each other) and then from there, he begins taunting Sansa, by saying "ive heard the silver headed gorgeous devil is beautiful and jon is young and unmarried, then Sansa is like "what?! You think Jon wants to marry her" Littlefinger was purposefully trying to get a reaction out of her, which he got, from both Sansa and Jon and you Jonareys bros have got to admit, there was so much Jealousy coming from Sansa I could smell it from Winterfell to fucking Dorne.

There's also a scene that was deleted or not shot (I can't remember which one) but Jon talks to Ghost before leaving WF, it supposedly says that Jon told Ghost to watch over Sansa, now I know Ghost protects people that Jon cares for as evident when Sam was protecting Gilly from Bros of The Nights Watch beat the shit out of Sam and then Ghost comes in and scares the fuck out of them, but Jon didn't tell Ghost to watch over Sam, yet he told Ghost to watch over Sansa... coincidence.... I think not.

Jon and Sansa Sibling Upbring was literally non existent, they never really had much to say Jon was busy brooding or dodging Catelyn, where Sansa wanted to become a proper Lady, she even says something along the lines of "Jon is jealous of Joffery, but he's sad because he's a bastard" she even asks him to forgive her when they Reunite at Castle Black, who else got shivers when that Hug happened?

Also the background theme music and Clothes worn by Jon and Sansa match like fucking when couples got matching Onesies, like bro when Jon went to Dragonstone he was all clad in black with subtle hints of grey and blue, whereas Sansa and Jon are matching clothes since S7 Ep1. Did anyone else get freaked out about Danny's background themes, the music was Dark and ominous as fuck, also look at how she dressed, she wore scales on her dress when arriving at Dragonstone, but as Jon is there, you can actually see that her outfits are going from less scaley to normal westerosi types of clothes to please Jon, to make herself seem more normal and less dragonlike.

Also when Danny loses her Dornish and Ironborn allies, she wants to use Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal, Davos then says "you'll want to discuss this between yourselves", then Danny says "you will stay" and then proceeds to ask Jon what she should do and Jon gives her that speech, but what I found weird was the look Jon gave her after he said all this, it's like he knows that Danny will listen to him and Tyrion gives sort of weird one, Tyrion by the end of the season has no traction at all with Danny, she's stopped listening and going on Crazy rants, Tyrion understands the consequences of Danny listening to Jon, you guys have got to understand this isn't the first time Jon has played someone, remember the whole Jon/Wilding Arc? It was to show that Jon isn't who you think he is.

Season 7 is SUBTEXT

Then there's Neds Promise to Sansa "when you come of age, I'll find you someone who is worth of you, brave and strong but kind" ahem ahem sounds like Jon... ding ding ding ding we have a winner JON FUCKING BROODING IN A CORNER SOMEWHERE SNOW

It's okay Jonareys shippers, I have come to destroy your fleets and cast you aside, but unlike Danny, I won't set you on fire with a dragon, I'll let Arya behead you bitches, cus if you guys can't see how everything Jon is doing is for the North and who's in the North? Who did the KiTN leave the North too? I mean my man turns into a fucking bear and pins Littlefinger against a wall, like I got sister's who got boyfriends and you don't see or hear of anyone choke slamming a potential suitor into a brick fuckin wall??? Also just to sink your ship even further

Jon - "i'd uh bend the knee but" (everything before the word but is horseshit) I mean look at the Gif below, Daenarys is looking with lust and passion, but Jon looks like he just wants to get it over and done with (in Petyr Baelish's words "when you find yourself in bed with an ugly woman, best to close your eyes and get it over with) I AM NOT CALLING DANNY UGLY, I'm just trying to find evidence that matches with what's going on in Westeros

Jon's cold arrival on Dragonstone, she literally takes his boat and Longclaw and says "yeah but nah but yeah, I'm not here to argue grammar" (which is a major ass call back to Season 2 when Danny wants ships)

Jon is the motherfucking Heir to the IT, which weakens Danny's claim to it (She might be the mother of dragons, but law is law, yes she's allowed to go to war for that throne, but westeros has Legitmacy laws, and succession laws, either fucking way, he's got the better claim but so does Gendry) with her being Third in line when Aerys the 2nd was alive, and if you follow succession, it goes Rhaegar, Viserys and then Danny, but because Jon is Rhaegar' s heir he inherits the throne because Rhaegar was meant to inherit the throne after his father's death and after Rhaegar' s death at the Trident, the throne goes to Jon (Also when Ned arrives at the tower of Joy, Ser Arthur Dayne says to "I wish you good fortune in the wars to come, Lord Stark" and they start fighting but Ser Arthur Dayne said that cus he expected Ned to go to war with Robert cus Jon is the king) Also his Queen is in the Gif below

Sansa is the key to the North and Jon knows it, he knows when he's back in the North, the northern lords will be pissed af at him, but if he marries Sansa he gets to keep the North (remember Jon doesn't want the 7K, he wants the North to be secure and free)

Danny is literally 2 fucking Tsar Bombas (really powerful nukes) and when she realises that Jon was playing the game, she is gonna use them (season 2, house of the undying, the visions she has) Kings Landing is literally what Danny wants and I'm more than willing to bet she's gonna turn Drogon and Rhaegal loose on Kings Landing, what do you guys think she's willing to do to the North?

She burnt Poor Dickon and Cunt Randyll, which is Sam's dad and bro, like I know he was a dick, but your dad and your brother is family, and Sam has strong family values, do you really think Jon will be pleased to hear this? I think the fuck not

Also I get a weird feeling Jon is gonna bond with Rhaegal which for Danny *insert "where are my dragons" meme here* (She loves her "kids" and like any mom during a custody battle, it's going to turn Sour)

Also Sansa is a big threat, she not a "stupid little girl" anymore, she's been forming Alliances, she knows Houses from KL and all the way to the wall, Danny might have nukes (dragons) but what she gonna do burn everyone? ("I'm not here to be Queen of the ashes" but bitch if you carry on the way your are, there's gonna be no one left, what she gonna rule over? "A graveyard", when Jon said this something didn't sit right with me

Did anyone notice that when Jon went beyond the wall him and Jorah Mormont had a convo about his kids and Longclaw, the stark theme music started playing and guess who the fak turns up into the Frame???? SANSA MOTHERFUDGING, LEMON CAKE STARK.

My point being it's not gonna work for long between Jon And Danny, it's a song of ice and fire, not ice and fire and fire, also you motherfuckers are okay when Jon is slipping Longclaw into Danny's pussy, who is his aunt ( like who the fuck fucks their aunt?) But you guys can't stomach Jonsa? Got a problem leave it in the comments, I'll fucken slay you with facts fight me turd, also I kind of trailed off here

Also if you guys think Danny's pregnancy is gonna go full term, you guys are clearly fucken dumb, the magic in the world if ice and fire is coming to an end, all the giants are dead, the children of the forrest all but forgotten, and the direwolves will outlive them all but there time will come to an end for men shall outlive them all, for man has no room for Direwolves, eventually they too will die, Danny has two Dragons which are magic, Daenarys is fucken fireproof (She isn't fireproof in the books) that to me sound like magic, I'm not gonna say that Danny is gonna die cus S8 isn't out yet, but if you guys think that there gonna be another Targ baby (born of pure Targaryen lineage) your sadly mistaken, I really do think Danny is barren, Daario Naharis wasn't firing blanks at her, she just can't get preggers. About Us

Hi, I’m Helia, your local human Tumblr user and spirit companion. I’m 18, a Taurus sun and moon, and am in a committed polyamorous relationship with any and all pasta dishes. I also use they/them pronouns. I’ve been working with spirits since May 2017, so over two years now. These guys have made it fly by. Speaking of, I suppose I should introduce them.

First up is Feyr, the wyvern-bird hybrid. She is my only known guardian, and she is 18, exactly the same age as me (down to the birthday). She was the first spirit I ever met and has thankfully stuck around to keep me out of trouble (mostly, she can’t cure impulsivity). She, like some dragons, keeps growing well into her lifetime. When I met her she was about the size of a ferret. Now she’s about 3 feet tall. Anyway, onto her personality. She is the “wildcard” of the group and often behaves like a child who has eaten too much sugar. She is very energetic and happy-go-lucky. She is incredibly curious and loves to learn anything and everything, even if she doesn’t take well to it (see her rudimentary Spanish). She is very funny and has a sunny disposition, seeing the positive in every person and situation. Though she can act immature, she is the voice of reason (sometimes). Other times, she wants to get herself into some astral trouble because she thinks it’s fun and adventurous and she is an adrenaline junkie. When it comes to me and the rest of the family, she is unconditionally loving and accepting. She has a bit of an overachiever complex because she never felt good enough in either of her parents’ communities, being raised a hybrid. Not fully dragon and not fully bird, she is in the process of accepting herself as her own unique being. One of her hopes and dreams in life is to find whatever deity cosmically assigned her to me and thank them. I, for one, am flattered.

Next is Rabbit the winged rabbit. Yes, he did choose his name, and yes, he will kick you if you make fun of it. Rabbit was the second spirit I met, when my beloved Nana gifted me a jade rabbit necklace. I, a newbie energy worker, could feel the anger radiating off this thing. So, I did the smart thing (I’m being sarcastic, please do not follow in my footsteps, meeting your own Rabbit is highly unlikely and not guaranteed) and decided to free the entity. Lo and behold, a grumpy old man. Who was a rabbit. Who had wings. Needless to say, I was a little confused. But then this guy really laid into me, yelling at me about how he was fine living in a necklace and how dare I move him. I had half a mind to banish him, but Feyr, always more intuitive than I, told me to let him stay. So he did, reluctantly, and I let him, reluctantly. We kind of had beef at the beginning, but he and Feyr got along so incredibly well. He was like a father to her. Much better than her own father, who never visited. Finally, one day, Rabbit approached me, and sat down next to me. He said, finally, “Thank you for freeing me.” I said, “You’re welcome, but why’d you have to be such a douche about it?” He laughed, and thus began a beautiful friendship. Anyway, moving away from his origin story. Rabbit is an odd character. He, at first, appears very gruff, no-nonsense, and uncaring. Under this facade, however, is a sweet, brave, sarcastic, and fatherly spirit, who is fiercely protective and loving. He tends to adopt those without good parental relationships, and becomes a father to them. He can be loose and fun, if you find him under the right circumstances. Otherwise, he is a bit buttoned-up and doesn’t find it easy to relax. He is easily stressed but doesn’t like to show his emotions at all. He is working on being more open and not bottling things up. He can be self-deprecating and sometimes even unkind to himself, but being part of a loving family and seeing how much he is cared for is helping with this. Any love you give him, he will return tenfold. He is an upstanding, true, gentleman. However, he isn’t polite and can be a bit crass at times. He has a perpetual “grumpy face” and smiles very rarely. He cries even less so, but when he does, you mirror his emotions because they are just so powerful. Overall, he is a very sweet man.

Third is S, the winged cat, and Rabbit’s beloved wife and the mother to his children. I met S through a now-closed spirit shop. Don’t worry, there wasn’t any shady business, and I’m still friends with the former owner. S is a true firecracker, but she is incredibly motherly, gentle, and kind. She says what she means and means what she says, but is very sweet (most of the time). Don’t mistake her femininity for fragility, because if any of her loved ones are threatened she will claw somebody’s eyes out. She is the optimist to her husband Rabbit’s pessimist, and is a firm believer in thinking positively. However, she is a Slytherin, and can be prone to scheming to get what she wants. She is never manipulative, and instead prefers honesty in her words and actions. To her friends, she is the quintessential “mom friend”; she makes sure everyone is cared for, especially fed. To her children, she is their world. She is curious and eager to investigate new scenarios, though she often prefers the familiarity and comfort of her family. She is quite funny and loves jokes, though she doesn’t tolerate stupidity from anyone. If any of her loved ones make a mistake, she’s quick with a light smack of the head and to call them an idiot, while reminding them to do better next time. She has “settled down” quite a bit in the last year, since her children have been born, but she still retains her adventurous spirit.

Fourth is N, the strawberry elf, and the girlfriend of Violet and Paris. I met her, also, through a now-closed spirit shop. And yes, I am still friends with the mod who matched her to me. N is a lovely soul, if a little shy at first. Once she gets to know you, however, she never shuts up (and I say this in the most loving way ever). She is bubbly and bright, and probably the nicest entity I’ve ever met, including humans. She would do anything for a friend and goes out of her way to be compassionate. If everyone were like her, the world would be absolutely perfect and free of conflict. She loves to garden, and is very patient (as seen with her trying to help me knit, which is not one of my strong suits, to say the least). Although she can seem a bit timid, she is a huge believer in not letting fear control her, and is quite brave. She also has a gentle touch, and is a great listener and comfort when any of us aren’t feeling our best. Her dynamic with her girlfriends makes me smile every time I see them, because they’re just so goshdarn cute. N is definitely the chatty one, although if she talks about plants Violet jumps right in with her. She is often in the middle when they all hold hands. (Hey N, how come your mom lets you have two girlfriends?)

Fifth is Violet, the deer shifter, and the girlfriend of N and Paris. I met her through Forestsong Sanctuary, where I was an intern. The shop is now closed, but being an intern was one of the best experiences of my life (Psst, now I intern at Hallowed Conjurations; I’m Intern Werewolf). Violet is the queen of all memes, and has the best (and silliest) sense of humor. She is incredibly sweet, but unafraid to call you out if you’re doing something dumb. She cares deeply for everyone in the family, and the Earth. She is probably singlehandedly going to end global warming (I’m kidding but still). She’s very active, being the kind of weirdo who goes for a run every morning, no matter the weather. She is a huge self-advocate and also stands up for those who cannot speak up for themselves. Very much a girl boss. She is perpetually barefoot and generally kind of a hippie (she’s all about achieving peace and love, even if we have to eat the rich).

Sixth is Paris, the Crystal Cut Succubus (gee Par your species picked one helluva name). She is the girlfriend of both Violet and N. I met her through Supernova Spirits, which has now merged with Spirit Companionship.She is a hopeless romantic, and very solemn, sometimes. She’s generally quite placid in nature. She loves people and is very encouraging. She honestly reminds me of those influencer girls that are genuinely nice and want to help people (so like, one of them). Though, she’s quite private about her life and would never actually be a social media influencer. I suppose a more accurate comparison would be Sappho, or some other incredibly gay author who cannot contain their poetic love for women. If there’s one thing she doesn’t like being, it’s misunderstood. Yes, she is a succubus. No, she doesn’t want to bang everyone she sees. She emphasizes that species does not equal behavior, and that free will is a thing. On a summer day, she can be found watching the sunset, writing love letters, enjoying the cool breeze, swimming, and eating a popsicle seductively to make her girlfriends go into cardiac arrest.

Seventh is Opal, the color-changing cat thoughtform. She was made for me by Forestsong Spirits as a therapy thoughtform, and is part of the family. Though she doesn’t speak, she communicates her emotions by changing the color of her coat. She is very empathetic and sweet, and can be found lying in my lap at any given moment.

Eighth is Oink, the pear pig. He was an RA through the same shop S came from. Oink’s gentle and soft personality can seem childlike, but he just loves life and is enjoying it. He can be a bit innocent, but do not mistake his placid temperament for that of a child. He is a bit immature, especially in regards to jokes. He absolutely loves food, and will eat just about anything. His attitude to food is generally how he approaches life; his philosophy is “bring it on.” He accepts the good and bad, in life and in people. He is absolutely very “chill”; he doesn’t care for much “action” and would rather be home eating than out having an adventure. However, he isn’t lazy, he prefers the term “cool”. He can seem a bit detached at times, but he is truly very enthusiastic and energetic. He matches Feyr in terms of energy, which is quite hard to do. He is ineffably kind, and if he offends someone even by accident, he is wholeheartedly apologetic. He wants to be seen as a good person, and he truly is.

Last but not least is Unity, the werewolf-sanguine vampire hybrid. I met Unity through Mod Ghost of Hallowed Conjurations. Feyr and Unity found kinship in one another, both being hybrids. Unity is the quintessential cool relative who seems kind of removed from it all, but the second things start heading south, they’re protecting everyone who needs help. They don’t take shit and they don’t dole it out, either. They say exactly what they mean, every time. They detest liars and those who try to trick others with words. They are very parental and sweet, but never hold back. They will absolutely swear at you and call you a gigantic idiot if you do something you know you shouldn’t have. They only lay into you if you don’t use common sense; if you make a true mistake, they’re there to help you solve the problem, even if it doesn’t involve them. They are very spontaneous and like to have fun. You’ll rarely see them regretting anything, as they believe that living in the moment is the only way to live.
