Straight up based my entire dnd character of many years off of this exact concept. No matter what setting or campaign, he always begins as a some sort of forge apprentice who wants to help others through his inventions.
I love my little guy who believes that we should all do what is right and good, even if that means breaking some laws that are not in the best interest of the people. He has a HAMMER called JUDGEMENT that, in its final form, can cast high level Thunderwave or makes him RESISTANT TO ALL DAMAGE AND GIVES ALLIES +50 HP WHEN KHAL BECOMES THE ICON OF MERCY DO YOU UNDERSTAND HE HAS NEVER USED THE THUNDERWAVE DO YOU GET IT
Something about Zac Oyama's characters and the undercurrent of quiet gentleness and goodness in all of them. Even when they're not particularly 'nice' or sometimes straight up little shits still their motivations ultimately being helpful for others. Something about their lack of solid ambition or grand, world changing goals but instead just being a guy who most of the time just wants to hangout with friends and do some cool stuff maybe. Something about how they don't try to particularly try to take the center stage but almost always being in an exact place they should be when they are needed and doing what needs to be done and that being good. Mr Oyama I am in your walls
