tw cancer, tw death, tw grief / life update
I was having a nice day on Saturday. I woke up, made a tea latte, did some yoga, went for a run, went to get groceries.
Around 3 PM I got a call from my mom and aunt, letting me know that the hospice nurse said that they expected my dad to have 24 hours or less to live. This was a huge change from previous estimates of a week-two weeks. Derek and I booked airline tickets same-day from Minneapolis to CA. Our flight wasn't until 9:30 PM.
We were at the airport, past security, waiting for our flight to board, when I got the call from my mom saying that my dad had passed.
I had prepared for this since he was diagnosed 10 months ago - I had prepared for this since he started hospice - I had prepared for this since the last time I saw him in April - but I still wasn't ready. I thought I was ready, I thought I would be ready, but I wasn't.
Derek held me when I broke down weeping in the middle of the airport. We flew 3.5 hours to CA, were on the road for another 1 hour, and got to my parents' house at past 1 AM. It was hell. It was a hell day.
The hell got worse the next day when we saw his body at the funeral home. I walked to him and automatically said "Daddy? Daddy?" like I always used to, and he didn't respond. He didn't say anything. It was hell. The worst thing I've ever been through.
My aunt and Derek had to go back to home (Pennsylvania and Minneapolis respectively) yesterday. My mom and I attended my dad's funeral today. Seeing the hearse, driving behind the hearse, was really hard. My dad taught me how to drive, and I used to sit in the backseat when he and my mom drove me around when I was a kid, and now I was driving behind the funeral hearse.
My mom and I were so nervous about the funeral, but it was beautiful. It was at a veterans cemetery, peaceful and quiet and beautifully maintained. The ceremony was beautiful. It gave us peace and closure.
My dad was 70 years old. He grew up in Chennai, India, in abject poverty, the youngest of seven kids, raised by a single mom. He grew up to become a pharmacist, and moved from a couple of decades of retail pharmacy work in India and Dubai and the United States, to moving to outpatient and inpatient clinic pharmacy management after he enlisted in the Air Force. He loved pharmacy so, so much. He was so passionate about it. His last job before he retired was an oncology pharmacist, at the same chemotherapy infusion clinic where he ended up receiving his chemotherapy after a diagnosis of small cell lung cancer.
My dad grew up in poverty, and his own dad was never around. He worked hard and provided for my mom and I.
I have had a lot of pain and grief ever since my dad was diagnosed with cancer. I could write for pages about it. All I can say is that I hope nobody has to see a loved one suffer and lose their life due to cancer, because it's hell to witness. I have the greatest empathy and love for others who have witnessed this painful process in their family.
All I can say is my only consolation is that my dad lived a long life. I know there are so many people who tragically die younger. My only other consolation is knowing that we are all united in grief, because this pain of losing a loved one comes to all of us someday.
This past few days, this past month, this past 10 months, has changed me irrevocably. I have new fears, new anxieties, new understanding (and fear) of death and mortality.
I also have more understanding and appreciation of life, how temporary it is, how important it is to live life to the fullest while we can, and how important it is to appreciate the people we love. My husband, my friends, and my aunt and cousins have been so supportive, carrying me through something so devastating. Even work, even my boss, who has been so understanding.
And to everyone on tumblr who has been so supportive during this journey. People who read my posts, who liked them to show solidarity with my feelings, who commented, who sent me messages of support and kindness. Thank you.

Property Investors – This One is for You
Tumblr media
As Noida’s Jewar International Airport races ahead towards  the completion of its  first phase next year , its operationalization will have a significant impact on Noida real estate.
Real estate investors need to have a discerning eye when it comes to the development and master plan of Jewar Airport. Noida Airport’s boundary will extend to the Aligarh district border with an addition of  1200 hectares and the total airport area will be 7750 ha. In phase 5 of this project, the additional 1200 ha will be included in the Master Plan 2041. By expanding the airport, more international transactions will take place and global investment opportunities will arise.
Tumblr media
Source TOI
Construction on phase-1 of Noida International Airport  (NIAL)  is currently underway with a robust lineup of up of 65 daily flights by the end of 2024. Trials are expected to start in February 2024.As part of the preliminary route network, short-distance flights will be offered to Dehradun, Pithoragarh, and various other places in addition to major cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune. Moreover,  two flights are scheduled for foreign destinations, marking Noida International Airport’s entry into the global market. As NIAL CEO, Arun Vir Singh told TOI, “Once the airport starts operating, flights to foreign destinations will also commence. Dubai and Singapore could be amongst the first few.” Additionally, a cargo flight will be operated from the airport. As per Singh, Indigo and Air India have expressed keen interest in setting up bases at Noida International Airport.
It is expected that Noida International Airport will serve approximately 5 million passengers by the end of its inaugural year, with a 12 million passenger footfall projection for the first phase of its operation. When the airport reaches 80 percent of its designated passenger capacity, construction on a second runway will begin.
Already, in a run up to the operationalization of the  Jewar Airport, there is a complete transformation in this area and Noida will  be offering great advantages. Locals are looking forward to more employment, business opportunities, and most importantly, an upgraded lifestyle.
Noida’s real estate market is expected to grow in the coming years, resulting in capital appreciation and higher rental returns,  As more people migrate to Noida, the demand for housing, retail, and office space will go up. This will lead to increased economic activity, which in turn will lead to higher rental returns, higher ROIs, and higher land prices. Additionally, the development of Jewar Airport and the related master plan will also likely have a significant impact on property values.

Emirates Launches Visa-On-Arrival for Indian Travelers to Dubai: Streamlining Entry with Key Requirements
Emirates Airlines, the preferred choice for Gulf-bound travelers, has unveiled an exciting update for Indian passengers. Effective January 7th, 2024, Indian travelers flying with Emirates will benefit from a pre-approved visa on arrival when journeying to Dubai, UAE.
This convenience comes with a condition: Indian passport holders must possess a valid US visa, US Green Card, EU Residency, or UK Residency, with a minimum validity of six months. The Dubai visa, linked to a valid US Visa, grants a stay of 14 days, extendable once for an additional 14 days.
In collaboration with VFS Global in India, Emirates has introduced this streamlined process exclusively for Indian passport holders booking flights to Dubai through their airline. With Emirates operating flights to 9 destinations in India, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Thiruvananthapuram, accessibility to this service is extensive.
For Indian travelers, navigating Dubai International Airport can often entail long queues at immigration counters, particularly given Dubai's role as a major transit hub with flights to 140 destinations worldwide. However, with the introduction of visa-on-arrival through Emirates, passengers can bypass these queues, ensuring a smoother transition through the airport.
Typically, Indian passport holders require a pre-approved visa for entry into Dubai, and visa-on-arrival is exclusively facilitated through Emirates Airlines. For stays exceeding 14 days, travelers must apply in advance, providing a valid passport, passport-sized photograph, and a detailed travel itinerary with accommodation arrangements. Additional documentation may be necessary for certain individuals.
Prior to embarking on any journey to the UAE, it is advisable to ascertain all visa requirements and eligibility criteria. VisaMint Overseas Services stands ready to assist you in navigating the documentation and application process seamlessly. Whether visiting our office or consulting with our experts remotely, ensure a hassle-free visa application experience with VisaMint.

Cyclonic Storm ‘Michaung’ Upgraded to Severe Cyclonic Storm, Impacts South India
In a recent update by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday, Cyclonic Storm ‘Michaung’ has escalated into a severe cyclonic storm and is projected to make landfall along the west-central Bay of Bengal, near the south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts by December 5.
Tumblr media
As per IMD’s forecast, the cyclonic storm presently resides over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and is anticipated to progress northwestwards, gaining strength before reaching the Westcentral Bay of Bengal off the coasts of south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu by Monday forenoon.
The weather agency has cautioned that the storm is likely to intensify further while moving nearly northwards, running parallel to the south Andhra Pradesh coast. The expected landfall is estimated to occur between Nellore and Machilipatnam, close to Bapatla, during December 5 forenoon, boasting maximum sustained winds of 90-100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph.
The impact of Cyclone Michaung has been notably severe, inducing heavy rainfall resulting in significant waterlogging across various parts of Chennai. Low-lying areas, hospitals, and residential zones experienced inundation, prompting civic agencies to engage in drainage efforts.
The adverse weather conditions have substantially disrupted transportation services, affecting both train and flight schedules. Consequently, the Chennai bench of the Madras High Court and district courts within the city have ceased operations.
Reports indicate waterlogging in multiple areas like Maduravoyal, Porur, Saligaramam, and Valasaravakkam. Additionally, the strong winds accompanying the storm have uprooted trees in various places.
The impact on transportation services has been substantial, with numerous cancellations and delays reported. PTI reported the cancellation of 12 domestic outbound flights to destinations such as Ahmedabad and Thiruvananthapuram, along with four international services to Dubai and Srilanka by a private carrier. Furthermore, three incoming international flights were redirected to Bengaluru.
Train services have also faced disruptions, with 11 express trains departing from Chennai Central canceled due to rising water levels at Bridge No. 14 between Vyasarpadi and Basin Bridge, attributed to heavy rainfall.
An official communication from the Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai, Southern Railway, shared on social media, expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and advised travelers to plan their journeys accordingly.
Authorities have issued warnings, emphasizing the severity of the situation and the consequences for non-compliance. The official notice underscores that any violation will be subject to penalties, including imprisonment or fines.
The situation remains critical as South India braces for the impact of Cyclone Michaung, urging residents and authorities to take necessary precautions and adhere to safety guidelines.
